Former Coronation Street star Rhea Bailey has joined the cast of Emmerdale, eight years after leaving the cobbles, reports suggest.

Rhea played Caz Hammond in Coronation Street between 2015 and 2016, and now her agency has revealed that she has landed a role in Emmerdale.

During her time in Coronation Street, Caz was part of some exciting plots including an engagement to Kate Connor and obsession with Maria Connor. However, it is not yet known what stories Rhea will be involved in on Emmerdale.

    Rhea Bailey joins Emmerdale

It was recently revealed that Rhea, who is the younger sister of singer Corinne Bailey Rae, has joined Emmerdale. The star’s talent agency shared the exciting news about Rhea’s new role on Instagram.

The post said: “The talented RHEA BAILEY is back in the Dales filming more episodes of EMMERDALE for ITV.”

Although no further details, such as her character’s name have been released, it sounds like it will be a substantial role and we’ll likely see her on screen soon.

As well as Coronation Street, Rhea also previously had roles in Crossroads, The Bill and Waterloo Road.

Who did Rhea Bailey play in Coronation Street?

Rhea starred as Caz Hammond on Corrie, who was a soldier and the fiancée of Kate Connor. During one of her visits, Caz became jealous of Kate’s friendship with Sophie Webster.

Caz became quite unstable and she threatened Sophie, warning her to stay away from Kate. However, Caz’s suspicions turned out to be correct, and after catching Kate and Sophie kissing, she left.

But Caz wasn’t fully done. She returned claiming she’d injured her ankle. Kate agreed to look after her, but soon became suspicious. It was later revealed that Caz was faking the injury to be near Kate.

After Kate and Caz broke up, Caz became obsessed with Maria and proceeded to stalk her. Caz ended up setting Maria up for her own murder. But Kate and Aidan managed to track Caz down and she was eventually arrested.

  • Beth Cordingly deserves all the awards as emotional Emmerdale fans call tonight’s episode ‘incredible’ and ‘powerful’

Beth Cordingly deserves all the awards as emotional Emmerdale fans call tonight’s episode ‘incredible’ and ‘powerful’

Emmerdale aired powerful scenes during tonight’s episode, with emotional fans calling Beth Cordingly and her performance ‘outstanding’.

Since the arrival of her estranged daughter and father, it’s been clear that Ruby Fox-Miligan has been holding something back. The truth was finally revealed in a special hour-long episode tonight (Thursday, December 12).

The episode, which featured flashback scenes, has been described by viewers as ‘incredible’, while Beth, who plays Ruby, was singled out for praise.

A photo triggered memories for Ruby (Credit: ITV)

What happened to Ruby in Emmerdale?

Since Ruby’s dad Anthony arrived in the village, viewers have been speculating about why Ruby hates him so much and tonight they got their answers.

Prior to broadcast, Emmerdale shared a trigger warning and confirmed that Ruby was the victim of sexual abuse as a child. Tonight’s flashback scenes revealed just what happened.

After Steph discovered a photo of her mum celebrating her 16th birthday, Ruby’s mind was taken back to that day in 1992.

In the present day, oblivious Steph met up with her grandad, where she told him she was hopeful that he and her mum could repair their relationship.

However, further flashbacks revealed why that might not be possible. As the episode went on, there were several triggers which took Ruby back to her 16th birthday – Cain’s birthday cake and Anthony telling Caleb Miligan that Ruby had been a hypochondriac when she was younger.

In the present day, Ruby told her dad: “We both know exactly what happened on my 16th,” with the final flashback clearing everything up. Horrific scenes showed Anthony taking birthday cake to Ruby in her room. As he locked the door behind him, a distressed Ruby told him: “Please dad, I don’t feel very well.”

Anthony responded: “You’ve always been a bit of a hypochondriac. You’ve been fine all day.” In a chilling moment, 16-year-old Ruby pleaded: “Please not again. Not today.”

It was also revealed that Steph was conceived around that time, with Caleb implying he and Ruby had done the deed just a few days after Ruby’s 16th. Could Anthony be Steph’s father?

Fans praise Beth Cordingly in Emmerdale

Emmerdale viewers rushed to social media to praise the show and, in particular, star Beth Cordingly.

Writing on X, one viewer said: “Beth Cordingly is absolutely outstanding in tonight’s @emmerdale. The storyline is very, very difficult to watch but a very important one to tell.”

Another fan said: “Tonight’s #Emmerdale was incredible and powerful. Beth Cordingly is fantastic as Ruby.”

Beth Cordingly (Ruby) is just an incredible actress and the best thing to happen to Emmerdale. She’s awesome!” shared one more.

  • Recognise Ruby’s mum in Emmerdale? Here’s where you know Sharon Maughan from – including her famous husband and soap past

Recognise Ruby’s mum in Emmerdale? Here’s where you know Sharon Maughan from – including her famous husband and soap past

Emmerdale viewers will see Ruby’s mum Helen, played by Sharon Maughan, in tonight’s episode (Thursday December 12). She appears in flashback scenes to Ruby’s 16th birthday.

Helen was last seen on screen back in September where she appeared in two episodes. Ruby had not seen her mother in 30 years. However, when Helen was dying she wanted to reconnect with her estranged daughter before it was too late.

Here’s everything we know about Ruby and Helen’s relationship in Emmerdale as well as where you’ve seen Sharon Maughan before.

Sharon Maughan as Helen in Emmerdale.

    What is Helen’s story?

Ruby’s estrangement from her parents was thought to be due to their disapproval over her relationship with Caleb.

Speaking about the past, William Ash, who plays Caleb explained: “They hated him because he’d come out of a care home, he didn’t have any family and thought he was beneath their daughter. So, Helen was really snobby and judgemental. Helen and Ruby’s dad gave Ruby an ultimatum. They basically said ‘look if you want to be with this boy then we don’t want anything to do with you’. They basically just cut Ruby dead.”

It has since turned out they kicked Ruby out when she fell pregnant at 16. And now her dad Anthony is in town, fans are speculating he abused Ruby and is actually Steph’s real dad.

Back in September, Caleb visited Helen in hospital after she repeatedly called Ruby. Helen was terminally ill, but still able to put up a fight. She eventually agreed to give Caleb £100k if he got Ruby to come to see her. However, unfortunately Ruby never got the chance as her mother died before she reached the hospital.

Ruby had no idea Helen had been in contact, nor that Caleb went to see her. But all of that came out at the will reading, when Ruby realised exactly what her husband had done. It looked like their marriage was over for a while, but Caleb begged and Ruby forgave again. But she will always wonder exactly what her mother had to say to her before she died.

It also turned out Caleb and Ruby’s estranged daughter, Steph, had been in touch with her grandma. Helen left everything to her in her will.

    As Tricia in Holby City

What else has Sharon Maughan been in?

The 74-year-old actress definitely has longevity on her side and has been acting since the early 1970s.

Depending on your era, there are various things you could know Sharon from. One of her most famous gigs was as part of the Gold Blend couple alongside Anthony Head in the 1980s.

She has had a steady flow of work and appeared in episodes of many a TV show, including The Enigma Files, Dombey & Son, Inspector Morse, Murder She Wrote, Heartbeat and The Bill.

Her biggest job saw her star in over 100 episodes of hospital soap Holby City, where she played staff nurse Tricia Williams in the early 2000s, who was the mum of popular character Chrissie.

Tricia survived breast cancer, only to be involved in a car crash. Her family had opposing views on what to do, but ultimately they decided to switch off her life support machine.

    Famous family

Her name doesn’t give it away, but Sharon Maughan has a famous husband – she is married to legendary actor Trevor Eve.

Most recently, you’d have seen Trevor in crime drama Unforgotten and spy drama Strike Back, but his most famous role came in Waking the Dead, where he played Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd throughout it’s nine-series run.

Sharon and Trevor married in 1980 and have three children together, one of whom, Alice, has also gone into acting.

In 2010, Trevor, Sharon and Alice all appeared in the film She’s Out of My League playing father, mother and daughter.

    That’s one talented family!

Cain and Ruby affair is undermining ‘important’ brain tumour storyline, fans say

Emmerdale fans have bemoaned a recent episode that saw Cain cheat on wife Moira with Ruby, saying it undermines the brain tumour storyline.

Recent scenes have seen Cain Dingle feel overwhelmed with guilt over what he has done, and he has been avoiding spending time with his wife while she recovers from brain surgery.

But Emmerdale viewers aren’t happy with this latest development as it takes focus away from Moira’s important brain tumour story.

Cain cheats on Moira with Ruby

Last month, while Moira was undergoing surgery for a brain tumour, Cain cheated on her with his sister-in-law Ruby Fox-Miligan.

The fling took place during a special episode which saw Moira dream of her dead daughter Holly Barton. In the same episode, Cain’s story was told in reverse chronological order.

Viewers first saw him with bloodied hands while drinking whiskey. As the clock went back further, viewers were shocked when Cain and Ruby were shown putting their clothes on.

Cain has been struggling with guilt ever since, and has been determined to keep himself busy in order to avoid spending time with his wife.

Earlier this week, while Moira recovered at home, Cain pretended he had to pick a car up in Dudley. He then lied that he was stuck there all night and instead spent the night parked up nearby in his van.

The following day he got himself arrested and thus wasn’t there when Moira got her test results.

    Fans angry at Emmerdale storyline

Viewers have already shared their frustration at the cheating storyline, but now some fans have pointed out that Cain and Ruby’s fling has undermined Moira’s brain tumour story.

Writing on Instagram, one viewer said: “I wish they never had that Ruby and Cain twist during Moira’s special episode. Very insensitive.” While another fan wrote: “Just completely the wrong story line here Emmerdale… you got this one wrong.”

Over on X, a third fan said: “Cain and Ruby is a ridiculous storyline. It’s completely overshadowed Moria’s and Ruby’s struggles.”

A fourth viewer added: “What have you done to Cain’s character more like?! It was such an important storyline, most people have forgot Moira’s symptoms by now.”

Another fan agreed, writing: “This went from unbelievable to unrealistic. Both actors deserve better especially Natalie, props to her making such an important storyline believable, even with the mess the writers made.” While a sixth viewer agreed, adding: “Having Cain sleep with Ruby for this nonsense was a ridiculous storyline decision.”

  • Emmerdale praised for trigger warning ahead of tonight’s episode by grateful fans

Emmerdale praised for trigger warning ahead of tonight’s episode by grateful fans

Emmerdale will air difficult scenes involving Ruby Fox-Miligan in Thursday’s hour-long episode and fans have praised the soap for the trigger warning ahead of its broadcast.

Ruby has been a main fixture in the Dales for almost a year, but since the arrival of her estranged daughter and father last month, it’s been clear that she has been suppressing something.

In tonight’s episode (Thursday, December 12), special flashback scenes will reveal all.

A photo triggers Ruby’s memory (Credit: ITV)

    What is Ruby hiding?

Ruby arrived in Emmerdale at the start of the year and has spent most of her time causing chaos. First she outed her husband’s affair with Tracy and then she run Ethan over in her car. She also teamed up with Rose in a plot to take down Kim Tate.

More recently, viewers have seen a softer side to Ruby. Last month, Ruby’s estranged daughter Steph arrived. She was soon followed by Ruby’s dad Anthony, who hasn’t won over viewers with his behaviour so far.

While Ruby and Steph have managed to make amends, Ruby is finding it more difficult to bond with her father. Steph has been pushing for them all to play happy families, but Ruby has been struggling with the idea – instead preferring to crack open another bottle of wine.

Ruby’s tragic past will be revealed in Thursday’s episode, with Emmerdale confirming she was the victim of sexual abuse as a child. Although the scenes are not graphic, Emmerdale issued a warning to viewers on social media.

The message read: “In tomorrow’s episode (Thursday 12th), Emmerdale will contain references to sexual violence that viewers could find distressing.” It was accompanied by a website link where viewers could seek advice.

    Fans praise Emmerdale warning

Fans have been speculating about what Ruby has been hiding and have now praised the soap for the advance warning, with one fan on X tagging another soap and writing: “take note.”

A second fan simply wrote: “Thank you for the warning,” with a heart emoji. On Instagram, another viewer said: “Thank you for this Emmerdale. Not enough shows give warnings for this.”

A fourth viewer expressed their gratitude and wrote: “Thank you for the trigger warning, it is much appreciated.”

A fifth fan replied to the message with: “I absolutely love Emmerdale for this.”

  • Ross defended by Emmerdale fans as Moses turns against him: ‘Ross actually wasn’t wrong this time’

Ross defended by Emmerdale fans as Moses turns against him: ‘Ross actually wasn’t wrong this time’

Emmerdale fans have defended Ross Barton following the latest development with son Moses.

Since Ross returned to the soap at the end of October, he has been trying to be a good father to Moses – the son he shares with Charity Dingle.

Latest events saw Moses brand Ross a bully. However, fans are feeling sorry for Ross this time and don’t believe he is to blame.

Ross tries to persuade Moses to forgive him
Moses called Ross a bully (Credit: ITV)

Ross and Moses’ relationship in Emmerdale

Ross retuned to Emmerdale earlier this year after six years away in typical Ross fashion – by taking part in an illegal boxing match.

However, when Charity made it clear that if he wanted a relationship with Moses he’d have to give the fighting up, Ross did the right thing and tried to cancel his next fight.

Another obstacle to Ross forming a relationship with Moses comes in the shape of Charity’s partner Mack, who has been a father figure to Moses.

Ross and Mack have bickered constantly, with Moses stuck in the middle. This went one step further last week when Ross gave Mack a beating. There was a reason for it, though – Mack’s decision to steal £10k from Jade had nearly got young April killed because Jade kidnapped April as leverage until she got her money back.

However, the attack was witnessed by Moses, leaving Ross as the bad guy. Charity told Ross he’d never see his son again, while Moses told his dad to go away and described him as a bully.

Taking to X, viewers expressed their anger at the situation and defended Ross against Mack. One fan said: “Mackenzie really starting to grind on me like what is his problem with Ross he need to get a life.”

“Why is Ross getting the blame and Mackenzie blameless and getting away scot free?” asked another viewer. A third fan echoed that thought and said: “Why is Charity not bloody angry with him [Mack] for putting her and Moses at risk and April in danger! I know Ross isn’t innocent but it’s ridiculous how Mack gets away with no blame!”

A fourth viewer said: “All down to Mack… but let’s blame Ross… Can’t even solely blame Ross for the fighting, considering Billy was involved. Then Mack steals the money & even when Ross explains how dangerous Jade is, he still doesn’t do a thing. Now, I am NOT a fan of Ross, but come on!”

Another fan added: “It’s not Ross’ fault April got into a car with a stranger, Marlon. Mack is such an ass. He caused this not Ross. He’s a jealous, petty man who had that decking coming.”

Other fans even went as far as to feel sorry for Ross, with one writing: “Is it weird I feel sorry for Ross?” and another adding: “Feel sorry for Ross – for once he hasn’t done anything wrong.”

Cain Dingle’s guilty conscience leaves Emmerdale fans tired: ‘Grow up Cain’

Last month in Emmerdale, Cain Dingle cheated on wife Moira with Ruby Fox-Miligan, but fans are tiring of his guilty conscience.

Cain has been avoiding spending time with Moira as he feels guilty over what occurred. Instead, he has been finding various jobs that need doing in order to not spend time alone with his wife.

But fans have had enough and are calling for Cain to “grow up”.

Cain cheats on Moira with Ruby

Last month, Emmerdale aired a special episode which saw Moira interact with her dead daughter Holly Barton while she underwent brain surgery.

The same episode saw Cain’s story told in reverse chronological order. We saw him with bloodied hands while drinking whiskey. As the clock went back further, viewers were shocked when Cain and his sister-in-law Ruby were shown putting their clothes back on.

As the clock went back again, it was revealed that the pair of them had argued, before that blew over into passion.

While both parties are eager to pretend the fling never happened, it’s Cain who is struggling with the guilt the most. He has been making excuses to not see Moira – whether that be picking up the kids or farm duties.

The latest excuse saw Cain pretend he had to pick a car up in Dudley. He then lied that he was stuck there all night.

Emmerdale fans sick of Cain and his guilt

The storyline hasn’t proved popular with fans, who hate that Cain cheated. They are also sick of him feeling sorry for himself.

“Cain’s guilty conscience gets worse,” wrote one fan on X, while another added: “Oh ffs Cain grow the hell up and quit with the poor me guilt. If [you] tell Moira what you did it’s not gonna help her, it’s gonna bloody ruin her.”

“Every cute moment of Cain and Moira makes me want to fire every writer in the room because why did you make him cheat,” a third viewer wrote. Another added: “The guilt is written all over Cain.”

With Cain’s guilt so obvious, it’s surely only a matter of time before Moira learns about Ruby. “The guilt really is getting to Cain now, I don’t think it will be much longer before Moira finds out the truth,” agreed a fan. Another quipped: “I know Moira has a brain injury, but even that wouldn’t stop her from seeing Cain’s guilt.”
