Three theories on how Brenda will leave the soap after Lesley Dunlop exit news

It has been reported that Lesley Dunlop will exit Emmerdale as Brenda Walker, but it’s not yet known how she’ll leave the Dales.

A source told The Mirror: “There have been so many exits recently and the talk is of more. With people like Lesley and Roxy potentially in the mix, nobody feels safe.

“The show has grown a lot bigger in recent years but soaps are expensive to make. It’s inevitable saving money means losing people – but it’s a huge shame all the same for those involved, their friends and colleagues.”

As speculation has already begun over what Brenda’s exit storyline will be, we’ve taken a look at the theories floating around.

    How will Brenda leave Emmerdale?

It has been a traumatic year for Brenda, as she went through a relationship crisis with partner Eric Pollard following his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

She was also devastated when surrogate son Heath was killed in a car crash after Angelica lost control of the wheel.

Lesley, who is married to co-star Chris Chittell in real life, has been a part of Emmerdale for 16 years. Will her character face more trauma before her exit?

    1. Brenda to die?

Ten years ago, Brenda survived a brain tumour. Fans have suggested that this could come back or that she’ll meet a grisly end another way.

Brenda and Eric are happy in their relationship, so some viewers feel death would be the only realistic exit for Brenda.

“Surely it means they will be killing her off as she wouldn’t leave Eric unless he’s dying so she leaves?,” one fan wrote in an Emmerdale fan Facebook group.

Another fan agreed, writing: “She’s hardly been in it this year. I’ve got a feeling Brenda will die.”

    2. Brenda to move to Canada

In 2013, Brenda’s adoptive daughter, Gennie, died after being suffocated by Cameron following a car accident.

Gennie had a young daughter, Mollie, who lives with her father Nikhil in Canada. Could Brenda decide to move closer to her granddaughter?

“It’ll break Pollard’s heart when she offs to Canada to be with Nikhil and our Genesis’ kid,” wrote one fan on X.

    3. Brenda and Eric to leave together

With many viewers struggling to see a way Brenda will leave without Eric, some have suggested that perhaps Eric will go too.

“I’m hoping she and Eric just gets in a taxi and leaves. Perhaps moving to be closer to David? Since they are a couple irl he could see this as an opportunity to retire. I don’t want to lose Eric, but it’s better than him mourning yet another partner,” wrote one fan on Reddit.

Another fan agreed, writing: “Yeah that sounds good, especially as they are married in real life. Jacob could go with them.”

A third viewer suggested that Eric’s Parkinson’s story could be revisited as part of their exit. “His exit story perhaps? He could be leaving with Brenda for specialist care.”

  • What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Tom claimed he was attacked and Ross tried to kiss Charity

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Tom claimed he was attacked and Ross tried to kiss Charity

In Emmerdale tonight, Tom continued to pull the wool over his uncle Jimmy‘s eyes. This time, he received sympathy from Jimmy after claiming to be attacked.

Elsewhere, Ella drunk away the afternoon and confided in Chas about her heartbreak. Unbeknown to her, Chas is the cause of that heartbreak.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight (Monday, November 4).

Emmerdale tonight: Tom claimed he’d been attacked

After Nicola spent the night at Laurel’s and refused to take Jimmy’s calls in Emmerdale tonight, Jimmy got snappy with Tom.

Tom told Jimmy he was constantly getting hateful messages online. Jimmy responded that he didn’t have time to mollycoddle Tom and instructed him to leave the house for a while. Later, Laurel came across Tom crouching on the floor by the church with blood over him.

Jimmy, as dopey as ever, apologised to Tom for making him leave the house. Tom claimed he hadn’t seen his attacker, but both he and Jimmy decided Sam Dingle were the guilty party. Tom continued to manipulate Jimmy and told him he didn’t want to go to the police as he didn’t want to cause any more trouble for Belle.

“I’m better off just keeping my head down, coping on my own,” Tom told his uncle, while we screamed into a pillow. Jimmy responded: “I’ll always have your back.”  Can someone bang his head against a wall, please?

In the village, Jimmy accused Sam of being the one to smash up Tom’s car and of attacking Tom.

The often thick Sam had us all saying “Yes, Sam!” when he told Jimmy: “And you think you’re the clever one? Protecting that idiot? He’s pulled the wool over your eyes, big time. We can all see it. Even your wife can see it.”

The truth came out at the end of the episode when Tom got into the car belonging to his solicitor friend Ollie. And if there was any doubt, it was revealed that Tom had arranged the attack himself. Ollie had been the one to hit Tom as Tom didn’t think the online messages were enough to garner sympathy.

Tom then threatened Ollie, telling him he would divulge the information he knew about him if he didn’t continue to do as Tom asked. Tom informed him they needed a back up plan to ensure he didn’t go to prison – legal or not.

Emmerdale's Liam and Chas talking at the bar in the pub

Liam and Chas made a decision

After being dumped by Liam, Ella spent some time in the Woolpack knocking back drinks. She opened up to Chas and told her: “It feels as though he’s plunged his hand into my chest, ripped my heart out, and stamped on it till it’s flat.”

“He obviously didn’t love me as much as I loved him,” she went on. Chas couldn’t have looked more guilty if she tried, but Ella didn’t catch on. Boy, is she in for a shock.

Later, Chas told Liam about her interaction with Ella, telling him how upset Ella had been. They agreed to keep their relationship a secret and to not rub Ella’s nose in it. Liam then went on to say that after a bit of time he’d be shouting about their relationship from the rooftops – because that wouldn’t be rubbing Ella’s nose in it at all.

Emmerdale's Ross in boxing promo photo
Ross continued to step on toes (Credit: ITV)

    Also in Emmerdale tonight

Ross made a move on Charity

Ross didn’t take too kindly to Mack describing Moses as ‘our son,’ telling him, “I think you meant to say ‘your son’.” The cheek – he hasn’t been around for six years!

Later, Charity spied on Ross as he told Billy that the boxing rematch was off. Charity told Ross that she was impressed by him for being sensible. Ross took Charity’s praise the wrong way and during a cosy chat in the pub, Ross leaned in for a kiss. Charity immediately pushed him away and insisted she loved Mack.

Ross quipped, “Yeah I met him, not my favourite person.” He wasn’t put off though and told Charity: “I know that you want me.” It’s a tough life for Charity, having both Mack and Ross at her beck and call…

    Angelica struggled to settle in

Cathy went to visit Angelica, who admitted that she was struggling with being back in the village. Angel also said she didn’t ever want to go back to school for fear of bullying.

When Bob spoke to Nicola later on, Nicola was visibly upset that Angelica felt she didn’t belong in the village. Will she be able to help her daughter feel better?

  • Daz Eden in Emmerdale: Troublemaker, family issues and relationship with Victoria

Daz Eden in Emmerdale: Troublemaker, family issues and relationship with Victoria

Darren ‘Daz’ Eden arrived in Emmerdale in 2003 looking for his half brother, Andy Sugden. He was initially a troublemaker, but managed to reform.

He had a strained relationship with his brother, particularly when it came to Andy’s relationships with Katie and Jo. Daz had his own romantic connections, most notably with Victoria, who many saw as Daz’s sibling.

    Here is Daz’s story.

    Jimmy punching Daz in Emmerdale
He loved to cause chaos (Credit: ITV/ Shutterstock)

    Daz the troublemaker

Daz arrived in the Dales in October 2003 searching for his half brother, Andy Sugden. The two shared the same dad – Billy Hopwood.

He was initially a tearaway and immediately took to stealing cars. Daz drove away in Robert’s car, crashing into hay bales in the process. He later stole some more cars, including Jack’s.

When he was punished by being sentenced to community service, he was hoping to do this at Scott’s garage, but Scott refused, meaning Daz would have to go to a young offenders institute. Daz got his revenge by setting fire to the garage.

    Relationship with his brother

When Daz came to the village, Andy was in a relationship with Katie. Katie was having an affair with Andy’s brother Robert, which was discovered by Daz.

Katie threatened Daz and told him that Andy wouldn’t believe him. This turned out to be the case and Katie persuaded Andy to put Daz into care. But when the truth finally came out, Andy visited Daz and persuaded him to come back to the farm.

However, after finally feeling secure and loved by his brother, Andy surprised Daz by getting back with Katie. Daz told Andy he had to choose between him and Katie – Andy chose Katie. Daz then moved in with Jack.

They faced further trouble later on when Daz discovered Andy had been hitting girlfriend Jo. Daz punched Andy but immediately regretted it as he didn’t want to be like Andy or his dad.

    Daz’s mum and dad

Daz’s mum Denise did not appear in many Emmerdale episodes, but when she did, she managed to convince her son she was a changed woman. Daz briefly left the Dales to go live with her, but returned a couple of months later.

Denise returned and insisted Daz make amends with her boyfriend, but he refused. When Diane and Jack decided to start adoption proceedings for Daz, Denise was happy to allow it.

However, Daz’s dad Billy – who was in prison – was not as keen. He felt the Sugdens had already stolen one of his sons.

Upon his release from prison, Billy arrived in the Dales. He got a job and tried to make amends with his sons. Andy told him that Jack was his dad, but Billy did manage to bond with Daz. The relationship was later damaged though when Billy had an affair with Diane.

Romantic connection with Victoria and Emmerdale exit

After having a crush on Jasmine Thomas, Daz dated Penny Drury. He then met Scarlett Nicholls, the daughter of Tom King, in 2007. Scarlett took a liking to him immediately and they eventually got together.

However, while he was with Scarlett, he formed a deep connection with Victoria Sugden, who was like a sister to him. The two kissed on Christmas Day in 2008 and then slept together a few months later. Victoria thought this meant they could be a couple, but Daz said it was a mistake and he wanted to stay with Scarlett.

To get revenge, Victoria slept with Aaron at Daz’s house and they were caught by Scarlett and Daz. Daz was angry and went for Aaron before Victoria blurted out that it was Daz’s fault as he didn’t want her any more. Realising they had more than a brother/sister relationship, Aaron and Scarlett were disgusted.

Aaron immediately told Andy, who was equally disgusted. He told Daz to leave and never return. Daz did just that. On his way out of the village, he stopped by the farm to see if he could get a last glimpse of Victoria, but he quickly left as he didn’t want to risk Andy seeing him.

    Who played Daz Eden?

Daz was played by Luke Tittensor. Luke has a twin brother, Elliott, who is also an actor. The twins shared the role of Carl Gallagher in Shameless before Elliott took on the role on his own.

Luke then landed the role of Daz in Emmerdale. After leaving Emmerdale, Luke played Connor in Waterloo Road. He has also appeared in Casualty, Holby City and Moving On.

More recently, he secured the role of Ser Arryk Cargyll in House of the Dragon, alongside his twin brother, who plays Ser Erryk Cargyll.

  • As Nicola grows suspicious of Tom, his comeuppance is on the way – here’s what we know

As Nicola grows suspicious of Tom, his comeuppance is on the way – here’s what we know

In recent weeks, Emmerdale fans have become more annoyed as Tom King continues to get away with his abusive behaviour towards Belle. But is Nicola about to catch him out?

Tom’s abuse of Belle has been an ongoing story for the last year, with producers not wanting to rush such an important issue.

However, we’ll soon be able to celebrate as Tom’s comeuppance is on the way.

Emmerdale's Belle and Tom are at home
Will Tom get his comeuppance? (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale: Tom and Belle abuse story

After 10 years away from the village Tom returned to Emmerdale in April 2023. Having previously dated as teenagers, Tom and Belle Dingle reconnected and resumed their relationship, eventually getting married.

However it wasn’t long before Tom’s behaviour turned increasingly manipulative. From isolating Belle from her family and using puppy cams to spy on her to controlling her movements and even locking her in the house, Tom turned Belle into a shadow of her former self.

Violence has also been involved. One distressing scene saw Tom hold Belle’s hand under a scalding hot tap, while on another occasion he punched her in the stomach after hearing her talk about him.

Although Belle found the strength to end the marriage, the torture didn’t stop there. Tom run Belle’s beloved dog, Piper, down and then pretended Piper had died – really, Piper is alive and vet Tom allowed another couple to adopt her.

He also tricked Belle into meeting him – a meeting that ended with Tom having an axe in the back. But somehow he walked away relatively unscathed.

In recent scenes, Tom continued his manipulation by sending Belle flowers. But when she confronted him, he denied it and called the police on her for violating her bail conditions, resulting in Belle being arrested. That guy clearly has no shame.

    Nicola gets suspicious of Tom

There are lots of threads that could lead to Tom’s comeuppance. At the heart of it is THE tablet.

Although Tom destroyed it, Moira has seen some incriminating evidence on it. The only problem is, she had a seizure shortly after and now can’t remember.

Tom’s cousin Carl also witnessed Tom destroying the tablet. It was always a risk that someone would see given that, for reasons only known to himself, Tom decided to destroy the tablet in the village in broad daylight.

Tom proceeded to bribe Carl into keeping quiet about what he had seen. But soon Nicola will become suspicious about why her son is scared of Tom.

So far, Tom has managed to fool his dopey uncle Jimmy, but scenes next week will see Jimmy’s wife Nicola realise there could be some truth to Belle’s accusations.

When Nicola tries to speak to Carl, he clams up. Later Nicola gives Tom a grilling, and even Jimmy becomes concerned by some of the things he hears. Nicola then threatens Tom with the police, but will Tom manage to squirm his way out again or is this finally the moment we’ve been waiting for?

  • Dawn Woods in Emmerdale: Marriage to Terry, romance with Scott and tragic death

Dawn Woods in Emmerdale: Marriage to Terry, romance with Scott and tragic death

Dawn Woods shocked her father Bob when she arrived in Emmerdale in 2003 and announced she was engaged to the much older Terry.

She stayed in the village for three years before meeting a tragic end in 2006. With her final weeks currently playing out on Classic Emmerdale, we take a look at Dawn’s time in the Dales.

Emmerdale's Dawn and Terry talking outside
Terry was much older than Dawn (Credit: ITV/ Shutterstock)

    Dawn’s marriage to Terry

Dawn arrived in Emmerdale as the fiancée of Terry Woods after they had met on holiday in Spain. It was then revealed that she was the daughter of Bob Hope. Bob had left her, her mum Jean and brother Jamie when she was just 4 years old.

Despite’s Bob’s reservations over the 27-year age gap, Dawn and Terry got married in March 2003, a month after her arrival. They went on to have son TJ (Terry Junior) together. But shortly after TJ’s birth, Terry a stroke. Struggling to cope with a baby and an ill husband, Dawn ended the marriage.

When Dawn’s mum arrived to support her through the split, she took a liking to Terry and made a move on him. After being rejected, she encouraged her daughter to go for sole custody of TJ. Dawn agreed, arguing that due to his stroke, Terry often got tired and was a possible risk to TJ.

Emmerdale Dawn Woods: Relationship with her stepbrother

Dawn started seeing her stepbrother Scott Windsor, which gained more disapproval from Bob – who was married to Scott’s mum Viv. The couple soon moved in together, but Dawn was devastated when Scott left her. Zoe Tate was planning to move to America with her and Scott’s daughter Jean, and had invited Scott to go with them.

Scott sent Dawn a letter telling her that it was best if they split as people thought their relationship was weird and he had convinced himself that he didn’t love her. Not wanting to see Scott or Zoe before they left for the US, Dawn legged it to Spain to stay with her mum.

However, Scott never made it to America. Zoe discovered that he and his mum were plotting to take Jean. A fight occurred and Zoe stabbed Scott with a syringe full of ketamine. Dawn flew home just as Scott woke up in hospital and initially forgave him. But after she discovered he’d been blackmailing Paddy to be a witness against Zoe at trial, his true colours was shown to Dawn.

Scott later punched Dawn by mistake while attacking Paddy and he was arrested for assault. Realising that Scott might be capable of rape as Zoe claimed, Dawn ended their relationship for good.

    Time in prison

After his release from prison, Scott decided to get revenge on Dawn by reporting Dawn for benefit fraud. She’d been doing odd jobs to support TJ and make ends meet.

Dawn was sentenced to 6 weeks in prison, although she only served 3 weeks. Upon her release, she was shocked to discover that her mum and Terry were now in a relationship. When they refused to end their relationship, Dawn reminded Terry that her mum was the reason she went for sole custody of their son.

Dawn banned both Terry and her mum from seeing TJ and took him away to Cornwall.

    Dawn’s tragic death

When Dawn returned to Emmerdale, she informed everyone that she had met someone and would be moving there permanently. Terry begged her to change her mind, but she refused.

On the day of her planned departure, Dawn allowed Terry to spend the day with TJ, but he was late returning TJ, resulting in them missing the flight.

Wanting something to do to pass the time, Dawn went with Marlon and Donna to visit their new house at the King’s River Showhome. However, a sabotage of the plot had been arranged by Sadie King and when the boiler room door was opened, the whole place exploded.

At first it appeared that Dawn was fine, with her injuries seeming minor. Doctors planned to observe her and then release her. But things took a turn and Bob returned from getting a coffee to see his daughter being rushed into emergency theatre. He was later told that she passed away from internal injuries.

    Who played Dawn Woods?

Dawn was played by Julia Mallam. Before starring in Emmerdale, Julia had appeared in Fat Friends and Peak Practice.

After leaving Emmerdale, she starred in 50 episodes of children’s TV show Captain Mack. She also popped up in The Bill, Casualty and Doctors, although hasn’t appeared on TV since 2012.

Ella’s true identity exposed? A wild fan theory rumbles love child connection to Zak AND Kim

Emmerdale fans have come up with a wild theory involving Ella Forster, Kim Tate and Zak Dingle – a very bizarre combo.

Last week, Zak’s death affected most of the village – not least, Kim Tate. Many didn’t realise she had such a close bond with Zak.

But now fans reckon Kim and Zak could have shared something more than just friendship – a secret child!

    Kim mourns Zak’s death

Upon hearing news of Zak’s death, Kim took comfort in her estranged partner, Will Taylor. She broke down in his arms. She was later seen in the pub sharing her memories of Zak.

“Zak knew exactly what was important in life. Family, they came first and they came last,” she recalled. “He put family above anything.” Kim also mentioned that Zak was always able to get what he wanted – ‘legal or illegal.’ She added that she admired him for that.

Some fans questioned why Kim would be so upset over Zak, with one writing on X: “Makes no sense that Kim Tate is crying over Zak Dingle.”

But others – with better memories – were quick to jump in and point out that Zak once worked for Kim. “Zak is part of the reason Kim became so strong and got the courage to escape Frank’s clutches,” wrote one fan, with another adding: “If it wasn’t for Zak and Seth, Kim wouldn’t be the woman or the powerhouse that she is.”

Now, fans are wondering if there is an even deeper connection between the pair, involving Ella Forster.

    Who is Ella Forster?

Ella arrived in Emmerdale in January. After standing up for Mandy, Ella was fired from her job. However, she quickly found work in the village at the surgery.

She soon became involved in a love triangle with Liam and Chas, with Liam struggling to be honest about who he really wanted.

Things took a dark turn for Ella when the truth about her past was revealed. On the day of her 11th birthday, Ella killed her childhood best friend Joanne in a jealous rage.

Although, things have calmed down for Ella and she has maintained a relationship with Liam, fans are wondering whether another big story could soon be on the cards for Ella.

Emmerdale fan theory: Ella is Kim and Zak’s daughter?

Fans are convinced that Ella will turn out to be the secret love child of Kim and Zak.

One fan claimed on Facebook: “I’ve been told that Kim and Zak had a fling and had a love child together, and it’s Ella.”

Others fans had the same idea, with another fan speculating on Reddit: “Ella could be Kim and Zak’s secret child after a fling back in the day.” Another fan agreed and commented: “I think it’s a similar situation with Faith Dingle having a fling with Frank Tate and Caleb being unveiled as their secret child.”

Some fans weren’t so sure, but admitted that ‘stranger things have happened.’ It’ll certainly be wild if true.

  • A lookback at Belle’s previous mental health crises as she starts to hear voices again

A lookback at Belle’s previous mental health crises as she starts to hear voices again

In Emmerdale, Belle Dingle has struggled with her mental health during her time in the village and recent heartbreaking scenes have seen her start to hear voices again.

Belle, played by Eden Taylor-Draper, has a lot on her plate right now. She recently lost her beloved dad, Zak Dingle, while still dealing with her abusive estranged husband, Tom King.

As she becomes overwhelmed with life again, we take a look back at her history with mental health.

Emmerdale: Belle guilt over Gemma’s death

Belle’s first experience with mental health came following her release from prison in late 2014. Following an argument over Sean Spencer, Belle pushed her best friend Gemma Andrews. Gemma hit her head on a rock and subsequently died from her injuries.

Belle was sentenced to 3 years in a young offenders centre (later reduced to 1 year.) Upon her release, Belle struggled to adjust to normal life. Her behaviour became erratic – she dyed her blonde hair black and befriended local weirdo Lachlan White.

Belle was later discovered by Harriet and Ashley Thomas in the church, crying and covered in blood. But she refused to share who caused the injuries. She went on to trash David Metcalfe’s shop and Edna Birch’s house.

It later emerged that she was having a mental health crisis and believed that Gemma was talking to her. She admitted to herself in her mind that she believed she had graffitied her house and harmed herself because “Gemma” told her to. Belle also believed “Gemma” was responsible for her brother Cain Dingle‘s brain aneurysm.

The voices and erratic behaviour worsened while working with Katie Sugden, where Katie witnessed Belle talking to Gemma. In order to get away from Katie, Belle bit her and then locked herself in Katie’s car.

In the car, Gemma’s voice instructed Belle to run over Zak. Belle did not go through with this and unlocked the car door. But it wasn’t quite the end of her ordeal, as following Katie’s death – in which she fell through the floor at Wylie’s Farm – Belle believed that she was responsible and tried to end her own life in the same way. She was eventually sectioned.

    Emmerdale: Bell diagnosed with schizophrenia

In 2016, a 17-year-old Belle started an affair with married doctor, Jermaine Bailey. In order to keep their relationship going, Belle lied to him that she was pregnant.

With life getting on top of her again, Belle then started talking to a friend from prison – Ellie, but it was later revealed that Ellie was one of Belle’s visual hallucinations. Amongst other things, “Ellie” convinced Belle to pour red wine onto Joanie’s wedding dress.

The truth was discovered when Jermaine’s wife Angie overheard Belle talking to Ellie. Belle had a breakdown in front of her family, but later run away. After spending some time living rough, Belle collapsed and was taken to hospital.

At the hospital, Belle lashed out at Lisa, thinking she was planning to kill her. Belle was assessed and her family were informed that Belle was hearing more than one voice. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia and sent away to a secure unit.

    Emmerdale: Belle suffered a relapse

In 2020 Emmerdale, Belle’s love interest Jamie Tate tried to frame Belle for the hit and run that left Moira Dingle for dead. With the threat of prosecution for a crime she didn’t commit hanging over her, her mental health begun to suffer once again.

Belle stopped taking her medication and the voices returned – including that of her mother Lisa, who died a year prior.

The voice of Lisa warned Belle that Jamie was a danger to the family. So Belle went looking for him with a knife. Fortunately, she was stopped by Mackenzie Boyd.

She then hallucinated that pregnant Tracy Metcalfe was Jamie, and was determined to stab her, but Tracy managed to make Belle see who she really was. Belle was hospitalised and started to take her medication again.

What has happened to Belle now?

Last week, the Dingles received the devastating news that head of the family, Zak Dingle, had died. A week of heartbreaking episodes followed as the family said goodbye to Zak.

In Wednesday’s episode (October 23), Belle was arrested after she breached her bail conditions. After receiving flowers, Belle was convinced Tom had sent them and approached him to share her disgust. Tom then reported Belle to the police as the couple are supposed to stay away from each other.

Back at home, Belle sought comfort at Zak’s graveside. Wearing his oversized shirt, Belle told her dad that she didn’t realise how much she needed him. We then heard her side of a conversation as it became clear she was hearing Zak’s voice.

Will Belle be able to get help before her mental health escalates again?
