Kerry and Aaron are battling for the Biggest Victim prize, while Ruby’s just trying to keep it all together. It’s been an emotional week in Emmerdale

It was another action-packed week in the village, so we had to make detailed notes ahead of writing our Emmerdale review this week. Just in case we forgot anything important. Like a couple of sons. Or perhaps killing someone…

Memory troubles aside, it was another gripping week of telly, and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute.Well, just about every minute. Here’s what we thought, in this week’s Emmerdale review.

Emmerdale review: Kerry Wyatt and Eric Pollard sit down to talk together
Poor Kerry’s been through Such A Lot since she killed Frank and kept quiet about it (Credit: ITV)

Will no one think of poor Kerry Wyatt’s suffering?

Since poor Frank Clayton suffered his fiery end we’ve been a bit obsessed with how Kerry and Amy just got on with their lives afterwards.

Kerry and Amy were the ones who caused the explosion that blew up the Sharma sweet factory but the villagers all thought Frank was responsible for his own demise.

When a devastated Tracy and Vanessa – Frank’s daughters – found out the truth, there was a bit of scuffle. Tracy gave Kerry a shove, and she banged her head. And somehow Kerry and Amy convinced the grieving sisters that now they were even.

We’ve NEVER been on board with this. We’ve been bothered for years about Tracy and Vanessa’s extreme forgiveness. And we were reminded of all that this week, when Tracy thought for about 30 seconds before leaving daughter Frankie in the care of Amy. One of the women who was responsible for killing Frankie’s namesake grandad.

And then we were reminded again when Kerry brought up the fire when she was trying to talk Eric out of torching the shop.

But it turns out we had everything wrong.

We thought poor, dead Frank was the victim but as it happens it was Kerry. She opened up to Eric about how hard it’s been for her, these past few years, living with the knowledge that she killed a man.

    Poor lamb.

And did Eric point out that the person we should all have been feeling sorry for in this tragic tale was Frank?

    Erm, no.

Instead, he gave Kerry a sympathetic pat. “What an awful burden to carry,” he said.

Not as awful as burning to death, though, right?

    Bob and Cathy

Forgetful Bob in our Emmerdale review of the week

And while we’re on the subject of things being forgotten, Bob had a bit of a memory lapse this week. He was, not surprisingly, sad about Heath’s untimely death, as the headstone went up on his son’s grave.

But as he and Cathy visited the grave and reminisced, Bob said Heath had been “the best son a man could have”.

The absolute best, Bob? Because we’re wondering where your other sons Josh and Jamie come in this ranking of offspring?

To be fair, Bob does have a lot of children. Which begs another question. WHY aren’t Bob’s family all coming back to Emmerdale?

We’d love to see his surviving kids – Josh, Jamie, Carly and Roxy – not to mention his grandson TJ – back in the village. The campaign for more Hopes starts here!

Aaron talks to Ruby on Emmerdale
Ruby told Aaron the truth (Credit: ITV/Composite: EI)

    Ruby and Aaron

Of course the big story this week is the aftermath of Ruby’s secret being revealed, and Anthony’s murder.

This week we found out that Ruby was the one to kill Anthony, even though Aaron had thought he was the one to blame.

The confrontation between Ruby and Aaron, as he confessed to the killing, then she told him the truth was brilliant. Our emotions were pulled all over the place, as Aaron first realised he was innocent, then twigged that Ruby – and Caleb – had let him believe he was a killer. THEN again as he understood why Ruby was so desperate for Steph to be protected.

We did think Aaron was being a little (a lot) unfair. After all, he did give Anthony a right good kicking, so he’s hardly innocent.

And while we get that it must have been a tricky couple of days for him, poor Ruby’s been dealing with this horror for three decades.

Anyway, Danny Miller, who plays Aaron, is a great actor and he brought it this week. And Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby, is just brilliant. We loved it.

Emmerdale review: Ruby talks to Chas
It’s more about who doesn’t know the secrets at this point (Credit: ITV)

    Emmerdale review: What comes next?

Meanwhile, now Ruby, Caleb, Chas, Aaron and John know that Anthony’s dead, and why. Cain knows the truth about Ruby’s abuse, but he doesn’t know that Anthony’s dead.

Steph and the rest of the village know an abridged version of Ruby’s mistreatment by her dad – she thinks he was violent, rather than sexually abusive.

It’s all getting a bit messy!

Not to mention Laurel making everything way more complicated than it needs to be.

“One wrong word and the whole thing crumbles,” Chas warned in Friday’s episode, and she’s totally right.

But is it wrong that we absolutely can’t wait to see it?!

    Cain confesses in Classic Emmerdale

The Dingles are all questioned by the police about Alice’s death. Sam and Lisa stay quiet but Marlon lets something slip about Cain’s involvement.

Next up is Cain, who admits that he killed Alice – even though he didn’t.

Later, Cain’s stunned when Zak announces he has the money to pay his £10,000 bail.

    Ashley’s apologising

Elsewhere, Ashley apologises to Sandy for his behaviour the previous day. Sandy tells him that while his shoulder can be mended, he can’t fix the fact that Ashley considers him to be a murderer.

    Louise and Martin

Louise says too much in Classic Emmerdale!

At the pub, Kayleigh is proud of her dad for tracking down Alice’s killer and wastes no time in sharing her thoughts, leaving Diane uncomfortable.

When Louise tries to defend Martin and Kayleigh, Diane snaps that she seems to be forgetting what happened with Ray. And unluckily for Louise, a policeman overhears and demands to know what she’s talking about. Oops!

    Ashley’s dumped!

Ashley is faced with the Dingles’ scorn and he’s disappointed when Sam says he’s found another vicar to officiate Alice’s second funeral. He tries to change Sam’s mind, but the newly widowed Dingle won’t budge – and who can blame him?!

  • Frank Clayton is remembered in Emmerdale this week – here’s how Amy and Kerry were responsible for his death

Frank Clayton is remembered in Emmerdale this week – here’s how Amy and Kerry were responsible for his death

Frank Clayton has already been remembered in Emmerdale this week when Amy Barton awkwardly brought up the death with his daughter Tracy Robinson. Amy and her mum, Kerry were responsible for Frank’s death, but it has gone unpunished.

Later on in the week, Kerry is set to warn Eric Pollard of the dangers of arson, after she realises he’s planning to torch the shop.

Kerry manages to coax Pollard into admitting he feels like he’s failed Brenda because he hasn’t repaid the money he owes. Worried about him, Kerry says Brenda will be happy to wait, if it means Pollard doesn’t push himself to the brink.

Later though she’s shocked to see him with matches and accelerants at the shop and realises he’s planning to torch the place for the insurance money.

Eric argues that arson is a victimless crime, but Kerry desperately tries to tell him he’s wrong, implying she absolutely knows what she’s talking about.

    Which she absolutely does.

    Remember Frank Clayton in Emmerdale?

Because remember how Kerry and daughter Amy burned down the factory, killing Tracy and Vanessa’s dad, Frank Clayton?

You do? We’re glad, because until now, Kerry and Amy seem to have forgotten all about their arson attack. And even more bewilderingly, so have Vanessa and Tracy.

Anyway. In case you need a reminder, here’s what happened when Frank died.

Frank Clayton in Emmerdale was Tracy's dad (Credit: ITV)

    Amy was in trouble

Back in 2019, Amy had not been in the village long after spending years away working in Belfast.

And it turned out she was in debt to an old friend over in Northern Ireland. Amy had been fleeced by her ex boyfriend and in turn had stolen from her mate Karen to pay off her ex’s debts. When Karen showed up in the village, she threatened to go to the police unless Amy paid her back.

Kerry Wyatt planned the crime – but the arson was accidental

When Kerry found out Amy was in trouble, she hatched a plan to burgle the sweet factory and get the cash Amy needed.

She talked Amy into going along with it and together they stole charity money from the factory safe.

But it was their attempt at destroying the CCTV footage of their crime that really went wrong. They accidentally started a fire in the factory.

Frank Clayton in Emmerdale meets a fiery end

When Frank Clayton realised his daughter Tracy was inside, he raced into the flames to rescue her.

He managed to get her out safely but he went back in to get the engagement ring he’d bought for Megan Macey, emerging just as there was an explosion.

Frank was killed, and was blamed for the missing money, too. Hardly anyone in the village went to his funeral.

    The Sharma factory explodes

The truth about Kerry Wyatt and her arson revealed?

Vanessa and Tracy found out Kerry and Amy were to blame for their dad’s death. Obviously, they were furious! They went to the guilty pair and there was a confrontation.

Amy and Kerry tried to stop Tracy leaving to reveal all. But Tracy shoved Kerry and she fell and banged her head.

Bewilderingly, Amy and Kerry managed to persuade the grieving sisters that Kerry’s bump on her noggin was just as bad as Frank’s fiery death. They agreed that they’d not report Tracy on condition she and Ness stayed quiet, about Kerry Wyatt and her daughter’s arson attack.

Since then, Kerry, Tracy and Vanessa have all spent time away from the village. Their lives have moved on. The circumstances surrounding Frank’s death have never been revealed.

Amy and Kerry set to be punished for the death of Frank Clayton in Emmerdale?

It has always angered fans that Amy and Kerry got away with their crime. They now waltz about the village pretending they are goody two shoes who have never done anything wrong in their lives.

This week Amy found herself looking after Tracy’s daughter Frankie. And she even offered to babysit her any time Tracy wants. Understandably Tracy found the situation difficult, but Amy once again apologised for her role in Frank’s death. Acknowledging she knows what it’s like to feel desperate, Tracy has all-but forgiven Amy.

But with Kerry involved with Pollard’s arson plan, will her confession spark off a punishment at last? Will Amy and Kerry finally get the comeuppance they deserve for their crime? Or are the soap gods still waiting on that one?

  • Aaron spirals after Anthony’s death in Emmerdale as fans fear a self-harm relapse

Aaron spirals after Anthony’s death in Emmerdale as fans fear a self-harm relapse

Aaron Dingle is spiralling down into self harm again in Emmerdale, after the death of Anthony Fox and his guilt over what happened. Aaron thinks he killed abuser Anthony – though we’re not sure he’s the one to blame – and he’s struggling to cope.

We’ve seen Aaron return to obsessive exercising and we’ve got an inkling that he could be about to head into a self-harm nightmare.

And that’s because we’ve seen this before – more than once in fact. Fans have also noticed Aaron’s struggles, with one commenting: “I have a bad feeling that the guilt of thinking that he killed Anthony will make Aaron selfharm again.”

Another agreed: “Please no self-harm relapse for Aaron! Whatever you do Emmerdale, don’t go down that road. He’s suffered ENOUGH!”

Aaron in selfharm mode is heartbreaking,” added one more.

Here’s the background to Aaron’s history of self-harm.

Aaron Dingle and the death of Jackson

Aaron struggled after the death of his boyfriend, Jackson. Jackson had been paralysed in an accident and wanted to end his life, despite the best efforts of his mum Hazel, and Aaron. They tried to convince Jackson that life was worth living, but in the end they couldn’t change his mind.

Due to Jackson’s injuries, he couldn’t take the drugs to end his life himself. Hazel planned to help her son, but when it came to it, she couldn’t go through with it and so Aaron was the one who gave Jackson the fatal dose.

After Jackson died, Aaron began hurting himself. He cut his hand on a gravestone, and on a razor. He deliberately banged his head on the wall, among other things.

Aaron starts to self-harm in Emmerdale after his dad returned

When Aaron first fell for Robert, it was a tricky time. Robert was engaged to Chrissie White, and their secret romance made things hard for Aaron.

But things got worse as Aaron served a short stint in prison after being wrongly accused of shooting Robert, and then he found out his mum Chas was dating his dad Gordon again.

Aaron had been raped by Gordon as a child and couldn’t handle Chas being with him. He started self-harming again, running miles until he was sick, and burning his arm with candles.

Cain found him hurting himself and offered support, but with such a lot of trauma in his life, Aaron couldn’t stop.

As he dealt with revealing Gordon’s abuse and his father going on trial, Aaron continued to self-harm.

Aaron and Robert on their wedding day

    Robert’s affair with Rebecca

Aaron hadn’t quite managed to tackle his self-harming issue, when he found out Robert had fathered a baby with his former sister-in-law, Rebecca. Seb was born in 2017, and Aaron began self-harming again.

He and Robert split and Aaron moved on briefly with Dr Alex. Though his scars made him self-conscious, Aaron managed to deal with his feelings and tell Alex the truth.

Though that relationship didn’t last, with the support of his half-sister Liv, Aaron finally managed to stop self-harming.

Is Aaron returning to self harm in Emmerdale?

Aaron’s feelings about his dad’s abuse have resurfaced since he found out the truth about what Anthony did to Ruby.

Ruby’s ordeal has stirred up Aaron’s trauma – as we saw when he attacked Anthony in the depot. And now with the guilt he’s feeling on top of everything else, even though he might not be the killer, it’s all seeming too much for him to cope with.

Could Aaron start self-harming again? Has he already started down that path? It definitely seems likely – but could new boyfriend John be the one to save him?

Georgia Jay has blink and you’ll miss it cameo in top BBC crime drama: ‘Hope she’s not looking for her grandad’

Steph Miligan, AKA actress Georgia Jay, is rubbing the Emmerdale viewers up the wrong way right now. It’s partly her desperation to find her grandad and partly the awful tone she uses every time she speaks to her poor mum, Ruby.

But of course, Steph has a huge shock in store. Because we viewers know, though she doesn’t, that her beloved Grandad, Anthony, was an evil abuser who raped his own daughter.

AND she doesn’t know that Anthony isn’t just her grandad – he’s also her biological dad. Because his sexual abuse of Ruby led to her teenage pregnancy.

That’s a lot, but it’s not all Steph doesn’t know. She’s also unaware that Anthony is dead.

    It’s all going on!

    Georgia Jay: Steph looks smug

    Georgia Jay on screen

Steph is played by Georgia Jay, who joined the soap late last year. She already had experience in television having appeared in award-winning series’ Girl/Haji, and Glow and Darkness alongside telly icon Joan Collins!

And sharp-eyed viewers will have seen Georgia make a brief appearance in this week’s Silent Witness on BBC One.

    Georgia Jay in Silent Witness
Georgia Jay appeared in this week’s Silent Witness (Credit: BBC)

    A Silent Witness quickie!

Georgia played a character called Camilla who appeared right at the very start of Monday’s episode.

Camilla and her husband arrived at a swanky hotel in Mumbai only to find a member of staff dead in their fancy suite!

It was the start of a deadly epidemic that was the focus of both dramatic episodes this week.

And the Emmerdale fans thought it was hilarious that Steph – or Georgia Jay to be exact – was right there in the thick of it!

“There’s no escaping her,” joked one fan. “Hope she’s not still looking for her grandad.”

Steph’s definitely right at the centre of the drama in Emmerdale even though she doesn’t know exactly why yet. We know secrets are always revealed eventually in soap, so surely it’s only a matter of time before she finds out the truth about her grandad?

  • Ruby’s brilliant, Kim is BACK and did Aaron really kill Anthony? We’re not sure! It’s been quite the week in Emmerdale

Ruby’s brilliant, Kim is BACK and did Aaron really kill Anthony? We’re not sure! It’s been quite the week in Emmerdale

It’s still all about Ruby in our Emmerdale review this week, though now lots of other people have got involved in her heartbreaking story which is a bit distracting and slightly annoying.

But overall there was a lot to love in this week’s Emmerdale. Here’s what we thought in our Emmerdale review.

Ruby in Emmerdale is tearful and distraught (Credit: ITV/Comp Emmerdale Insider)
Ruby – played by Beth Cordingly – is brilliant (Credit: ITV/Comp Emmerdale Insider)

    Ruby continues to be brilliant

Yes, the focus wasn’t always on Ruby this week but we still think she’s absolutely brilliant and a fabulous addition to Emmerdale. We love when characters are allowed to settle into a soap before they’re given a huge storyline. Us getting to know Ruby before this bombshell landed really paid off while Ella’s story never really hit the spot.

Ruby and Cain kiss in the garage
We really wish this hadn’t happened (Credit: ITV)

Cain and Ruby is a complication too far

But saying all that, we still really wish the Cain and Ruby thing hadn’t happened. It’s just an additional complication this storyline doesn’t need.

Ruby being abused by her dad would have been enough. Now there’s the fact of him being Steph’s dad. AND his mysterious death in the mix, too. Cain and Ruby seemed unnecessary at the time and now seems even more of a blind alley.

Emmerdale review: Laurel whacks Anthony over the head with an antique candlestick

Laurel and Nicola is a bit weird

Anyway, now Anthony’s dead, and Laurel and Nicola are agonising over whether they played a part in his disappearance.

Nicola even made the effort to go to a random ward in Hotton General and ask questions – most people would have just given them a ring, Nico. And then what do you know? Steph went to the SAME hospital and asked the same questions of the same nurse. What are the chances, eh? That nurse clearly isn’t working hard enough if she’s got time to hang around and wait to be asked questions about old men.

But we digress. Laurel and Nicola’s part in the Anthony death drama is a bit odd and feels slightly stuck on. They’re flailing round the village panicking about going to prison and it feels like a distraction. But we did laugh when Laurel said Nicola would handle prison better than she would. She’s right!

    Emmerdale review: Caleb’s useless

Caleb continues to be the worst husband, having made the whole thing about himself and left poor Ruby at home, desperately worried about Steph. Caleb played a weird game of Russian roulette with Anthony, trying to get him to confess – even though he knew the whole story from Ruby. And then the gun went off, and Anthony scarpered.

    Slow hand clap, Caleb.

But Aaron had us in bits

We love when we get a glimpse of vulnerable Aaron and his confrontation with Anthony was so good but very grim. Also, can we just point out that Aaron – Ruby’s neighbour – had clocked how she acted round her dad but her actual husband and daughter had not. Tsk.

Anyway, Aaron forcing the truth from Anthony was a hard watch. Aaron was clearly reliving his own trauma. While Anthony revealed his true, awful, despicable colours alternating between sickening self pity, and disgusting bravado. Nicholas Day – who plays the evil abuser – has done SUCH a good job of creating a monster. What a fabulous actor he is.

And then Aaron pummelled Anthony to a pulp. We weren’t even sorry.

    But did he kill him?

Emmerdale review: We don’t think Aaron did it

We are pretty sure Aaron is not the killer. (Mind you, we were absolutely sure that Nate had been killed in the barn fire so we’re not always right!)

Obviously, Aaron thinks he’s the killer and we’re supposed to think he’s the killer, but is he, though? We’re not sure.

Ruby was making some fairly suspicious faces when anyone mentioned her dad – though that could just be her worries about Steph.

And speaking of Steph, could she have been the one to kill Anthony? What if she overheard his grim confession to Aaron? Her desperate hunt for him makes a lot of sense if she came back to deal with the body only to find it gone!

Or maybe it was Jai. Yes of course that’s ridiculous, but he’s got a dark side! And he needs something to do…

We’re still intrigued by John in our Emmerdale review

Speaking of dealing with dead bodies, how calm was John when confronted by Aaron’s dastardly deed? He simply picked up his keys and headed off to sort it out.

We don’t care how many years he spent in the army – surely no one with a normal backstory is that chill about getting rid of a corpse? There’s definitely a lot we don’t know about Mr Sugden. Could he even have killed Anthony himself? What if he’s the latest Dales serial killer?!

    WHAT is wrong with Joe?

Another intrigue this week is Joe’s extreme health issues. Does he need something from Noah? A kidney? Bone marrow? Something else?! Or is he really an addict like Dawn thinks?

Anyway we want to know what he’s up to and we are not the only ones because…

    KIM IS BACK!

Of course she is! Grieving or not, we KNEW Kim wouldn’t be taking any nonsense from Mr Tate. She’s only gone and bugged his room! Now she knows he’s up to something. And she is surely about to twig what all those slurping noises were as he and Dawn snogged the faces of each other.

But who’s Joe talking to? What did he mean when he said the thing he didn’t want to happen had happened? Did he mean Dawn finding him out cold? And why doesn’t he want anyone to know he’s ill? We’re desperate to know more!
