Cain Dingle family tree explained – how Charity and Chas are related to him, who his dad is and all his kids

Cain Dingle is one of the most iconic characters in Emmerdale, and also now head of the biggest family in the village.

The Dingles have been residents for over 60 years, and their family tree goes back more than 10 generations. Cain has a lot of family in the Dales – from siblings and cousins, to kids and grandchildren.

But who is who in the Cain Dingle clan? Let’s take a look at his family relations and see how they’re all connected.

    Zak Dingle was Cain’s dad

Cain – played by Jeff Hordley – grew up thinking Zak was his uncle, but he was actually his real father. Zak had a one-night stand with sister-in-law Faith on Valentine’s Day 1974, which resulted in her falling pregnant with Cain.

Although Zak knew he was Cain’s dad, his brother Shadrach raised him as his own.

The truth came out in 2001 when Zak told Cain he was his dad during a violent row. Cain was disgusted by the betrayal and it took a long time for him to accept Zak in his life. Both stubborn and short-tempered, Cain and Zak had a tempestuous relationship. Events came to a head in 2011 when Zak attacked Cain and left him for dead in revenge for his bad behaviour.

Things did calm down as they got older, and Cain made his peace with his father. Zak sadly died in October 2024 and Cain has assumed his role as head of the Dingle clan.

    Shadrach Dingle

Shadrach was the man Cain called dad for for the first 26 years of his life. But blood or no blood, he wasn’t much of a father. He was a selfish slob and raging alcoholic who often beat Cain.

He was also abusive towards wife Faith, which is why she ended up walking out on the family. After she left, Shadrach’s violent outbursts towards Cain became even more frequent.

Shadrach made a few feeble attempts to get sober, but nothing ever stuck. Chas always had more time for her father, but Cain viewed Shadrach as a pathetic waster. In the end, Shadrach drowned after trying to save his beer cans from a river. An autopsy confirmed he would have died hours later anyway due to a ruptured liver.

    Faith Dingle

Cain’s mum was the late Faith Dingle, who was also mum to Chas and Caleb.

The pair had a complicated history after Faith walked out on Cain when he was just 12 years old. Cain vowed he would never forgive Faith for what she did and was furious when she arrived in 2017 to make amends.

While Chas was able to get past Faith leaving, Cain really struggled. Mum and son’s relationship remained strained, even when Faith was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Cain eventually made his peace with his mum during the last moments of her life. After realising she planned to take her own life with an overdose of morphine, Cain rushed to Faith’s side. He cradled his mum and admitted his love for her as she slipped away.

    Chas Dingle

The most stable and constant presence in Cain’s life has been his half-sister, Chas. They may fight like cat and dog, but their love for one another runs deep.

Chas and Cain were still kids when their mum Faith walked out and had to learn to stick together. When Chas fell pregnant with son Aaron at just 14, it was Cain who helped provide for them.

Cain has been Chas’s rock through some of the darkest times in her life, including the discovery that her ex-husband Gordon had abused Aaron over a number of years. He’s also fiercely protective of her and has disapproved of just about every man she’s ever been with. Although her last husband Paddy Kirk did get the seal of approval.

Chas has been married three times and is set to walk down the aisle again with Cain’s best mate Liam Cavanagh. Let’s hope she doesn’t mess this one up, for all their sakes!

    Cain Sam and Belle

    Sam Dingle

Soft-hearted Sam is Cain’s younger half-brother and the third son of Zak’s sons. He is also the longest-serving Dingle, having been on our screens for 30 years.

He and Cain are completely different in personality, but they share a close bond. The Dingle Code is of upmost importance to the brothers, and they don’t take kindly to it being broken.

In 2023, Cain supported Sam when it was revealed his wife Lydia had been raped by her ex Craig Reed. The brothers held Craig hostage and beat him. Craig eventually died under hooves of Kim Tate’s horse Ice, and Cain left him to die alone instead of calling for help.

    Caleb and Cain in Emmerdale

    Caleb Miligan

Cain and Caleb are half-brothers, but they did not grow up together. Caleb was the product of an affair Faith had with millionaire businessman Frank Tate.

The siblings met for the first time in 1991 when Caleb visited the garage where Cain was working. Caleb wanted to establish a relationship, but Cain lied to him that Faith was dead. They went out joyriding and were pulled over by the police. Cain then agreed he would take the rap (he ended up getting three years in prison) as long as Caleb never contacted him again.

Caleb did not keep to his word and came to the Dales in Christmas 2022 after learning Faith had recently passed away. The brothers’ reunion was not a happy one, and it’s been up and down since then.

Recently, Caleb attempted to frame Cain for Anthony Fox’s murder after finding out he’d slept with his wife Ruby. Cain warned Caleb he would end up six feet under with Anthony if he ever pulled a stunt like that again.

    Tina Dingle

Tina is Cain’s half-sister, but they’ve never had much to do with one another. Cain was not impressed when Tina made an unexpected arrival at Zak’s funeral last year.

He was even less impressed when it transpired Tina was trying to get her mitts on Zak’s money and blackmailing Mandy over her being Vinny’s long-lost mum.

Cain took his revenge on Tina by setting fire to her caravan and ordered her out of the village!

    Belle Dingle

Belle is Cain’s youngest sibling and his half-sister through Zak. She was born on Christmas Day 1998 in the pigsty of Wishing Well Cottage.

Cain has always been incredibly protective of Belle. He’s supported her through some of the toughest times in her life, most recently the horrific abuse she suffered at the hands of Tom King.

    Other brothers

Cain has/had three other older half-brothers – Nathan, Butch and Ben.

Nathan is Zak’s eldest son and has never been seen on screen. According to a story once told by Tina Dingle, Nathan disowned the Dingles after they caused a scene at his wedding. He has never been mentioned since that conversation back in 1995.

Butch was Zak’s second son. His life was tragically cut short in March 2000 when he was fatally injured in a bus crash. Cain’s first appearance was at Butch’s funeral when he came to pay his respects.

Finally there was Ben, who was Zak’s third lad and the first Dingle to be seen on screen. He was killed during a brawl with the local doctor’s son Luke McAllister back in 1994. Butch and Ben are buried next to one another in the graveyard.

    How Cain’s related to Charity

Charity is Cain’s second cousin, his on/off ex-lover and the mother of his daughter, Debbie.

The duo’s iconic love story was a central focus during Cain’s early years in the village. Charity was undoubtedly Cain’s first love. They started a sexual relationship when Cain was 14, and Charity just 12. Debbie was born in October 1989 and put up for adoption.

Cain and Charity resumed their affair as adults, becoming partners in crime as well as the bedroom. They nearly got married in 2010, but Charity got cold feet at the last minute.

Their last steamy liaison was 9 years ago, but Cain and Charity have remained mates, who always have one another’s backs.

Marlon Dingle looking fraught in Emmerdale

    Cain’s other cousins

    Marlon Dingle

Marlon is Cain’s cousin and they have lived in the same village for 25 years.

Although bonded by blood, Marlon and Cain are completely different characters and not super close. Marlon’s bestie is of course, Paddy Kirk, and together they have created one of soap’s most solid partnerships.

Marlon has worked as a chef at The Woolpack for almost three decades. He is married to Rhona Goskirk and dad to son Leo and daughter April.

    Mandy looks devastated

    Mandy Dingle

Motormouth Mandy is a cousin of Cain’s and a complete force of nature.

The bubbly beautician first arrived in 1995 and has lived in the village on and off over the years. Mandy got wed to Cain’s half-brother Butch, but the marriage did not last long. She’s currently loved up with third husband Paddy Kirk, who she married for a second time last year.

Mandy has one son, Vinny, who she adopted after his dad, her ex, Paul walked out on them. Vinny’s real mum turned out to be Tina, a secret which she tried to blackmail Mandy with. Mandy’s hardman cousin came to her defence and gave Tina her marching orders from Emmerdale.

    Daughter Debbie Dingle

Debbie is Cain’s eldest child and his only daughter, the result of his teenage romance with Charity.

The Dingles wouldn’t allow 13-year-old Charity to keep her daughter, so a woman called Pat Jones adopted Debbie. She arrived in the village in 2002 as the the temporary foster child of Paddy and Emily Kirk.

Realising who Debbie was came as a massive shock to Cain, but he was desperate to be part of her life. His relationship with Debbie was often more stable, whereas Charity and Debbie frequently clashed.

Debbie had an eventful time in the village, with numerous romances, a few affairs and a stint in prison. She said goodbye to Emmerdale in 2019 after Lisa Dingle left her a garage in Scotland in her will.

    Cain’s sons

    Nate Robinson

Cain’s eldest son Nate was born in 1991 following his fling with barmaid Cara Robinson. Cain never knew of Nate’s existence after Faith coerced Cara into not telling about the baby. Shadrach was a racist and Faith feared he wouldn’t approve of his son having a mixed-race child.

Nate grew up believing Cain had abandoned him. He came to Emmerdale in 2019 and had an affair with Moira in revenge. Cain discovered the truth and almost killed Nate. During a terrifying showdown on a boat, Nate realised his dad genuinely knew nothing about him.

The pair eventually made up and Nate made a life for himself in the village, marrying Tracy Shankley and welcoming baby Frankie. However, Cain could never quite get to a place of trust with his son.

In September 2024, he attacked Nate after wrongly assuming he was sleeping with Moira again. Nate left the village later that day for a new life in Shetland, but we now know he never made it that far. Somone murdered Nate and his body is currently at the bottom bottom of a frozen lake, while the killer remains at large.

    Kyle Winchester

Kyle came to be after Cain had a fling with 16-year-old Amy Wyatt. When Cain discovered Amy’s pregnancy, he put pressure on her to have abortion, but she refused to proceed.

Amy hid her pregnancy and gave birth to Kyle in December 2011 by herself in the village cemetery. Kyle initially went to adoptive parents but reunited with Amy and Cain after they died.

Kyle’s most memorable moment was in 2022 when he shot and killed Cain’s nemesis Al Chapman. Cain took the blame for the crime and served time in prison. He only tasted freedom again after Kyle confessed it was him who pulled the trigger.

Cain is now trying to help Kyle navigate his grief over Amy’s death.

Cain Dingle’s youngest son: Isaac Dingle

Isaac is Cain’s youngest child and his son with Moira.

He was born in dramatic circumstances back in 2017 after Moira went into labour without realising she was pregnant. Moira initially thought her then-boyfriend Pete Barton was Isaac’s dad, but it later transpired he was Cain’s.

Cain Dingle family tree extends to grandchildren

    Sarah Sugden in hospital Emmerdale

    Sarah Sugden

Sarah is Cain’s granddaughter and the daughter of Debbie Dingle and Andy Sugden.  Debbie gave birth to Sarah when she was 15 after sleeping with 18-year-old Andy.

Bad health has long overshadowed Sarah’s young life. Aged six she received the diagnosis for fanconi anemia, a rare blood disorder which causes bone marrow failure. The severity of the illness means Sarah has a much shorter life expectancy than most. Sarah also overcame a battle against throat cancer.

She works with Cain as a mechanic at his garage, Barton and Dingle Automotives, and has definitely inherited her grandad’s rebellious streak.

    Jack Sugden

Jack is Cain’s grandson through his daughter Debbie. She conceived him as a saviour sibling for Sarah, who needed a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Set to celebrate his 13th birthday this year, Jack has not been in the village since 2019. He left for a new life in Scotland alongside mum Debbie and Cain pops up there for the occasional visit.

Nate and Frankie's last scene together

    Frankie Robinson

Frankie is Cain’s youngest grandchild and the daughter of his late son Nate.

Her name is in honour of her mum Tracy’s late father Frank Clayton, who died trying to save her from a fire in 2019. Frankie arrived into the world in February 2021.

Little Frankie lives with Tracy in Tug Ghyll and Cain plays an active role in her life.

Cain Dingle family: Nieces and nephews

    Aaron Dingle

Aaron is Cain’s eldest nephew and the only son of his sister Chas.

Cain helped support Chas after she had Aaron at 14, and was a father figure for her son. He and Aaron are in some ways like two peas in a pod – both possess the same quick temper and appetite for law-breaking, but are softies underneath it all.

Their relationship has often been stormy, and violent, but Cain has supported Aaron through thick and thin.

Samson on the phone in prison looking worried
Like Cain before him, Samson is now serving time in prison (Credit: ITV)

    Samson Dingle

Samson is Cain’s nephew and Sam’s only son. He has proved himself to be a troublemaker and schemer.

He got teenage Amelia Spencer pregnant, but refused to be a father when she gave birth to baby Esther. Samson then suddenly changed his mind, but it transpired he was only doing this to blackmail Noah out of thousands.

Shocking betrayal struck again when he refused to believe that boss Craig Reed had raped stepmum Lydia.

Samson finally got his comeuppance after framing Matty Barton for stabbing him. Matty went to prison, but when Samson ‘fessed up what he’d done he received four years behind bars.

Cain, who has served time himself, gave Samson a crash course in how to survive prison. We wonder if it’s helping?

    Nicky Miligan in Emmerdale

    Nicky Miligan

Former nanny Nicky is the son of Caleb and Ruby, making him Cain’s nephew by blood.

He proved he’d inherited the Dingle gene for scamming when he conned Gabby Thomas as part of a bigger plan to get revenge on Caleb’s nemesis Kim Tate.

Nicky left the Dales last year after discovering his parents had conspired to cover up Ruby running over Ethan Anderson. He departed the village for a new life abroad with boyfriend Suni Sharma and only occasionally gets a mention.

We think now is the time for Nicky to stage a comeback, don’t you?

    Steph Miligan

Cain’s fiery niece Steph isn’t actually related to him by blood. Cain’s brother Caleb raised her, but we have all since discovered that Steph’s biological father was Anthony Fox.

Ruby murdered her abusive father, and Cain was one of the five people who helped cover up the crime. But will the truth succeed in tearing the Dingle/Miligan clan apart?

  • Ross Barton and his time in Emmerdale: Affair with Debbie, acid attack, painkiller addiction and return to the soap

Ross Barton and his time in Emmerdale: Affair with Debbie, acid attack, painkiller addiction and return to the soap

Tonight’s episode of Emmerdale (Monday, March 10) saw Ross Barton open up to April about his former addiction to painkillers. This came as April remained desperate to help Dylan, who is battling an addiction of his own.

April is determined to be there for her pal, but Ross knows firsthand the powerful hold addiction can have. He issued April a warning, speaking about his own struggle with painkillers following his 2018 acid attack.

This is the first time Ross has brought up his own painful history since actor Michael Parr reclaimed the role last year. Since returning, he’s found himself at the heart of the action – for better and worse for everyone else involved.

But what’s the full story with Ross and his painkiller addiction?

Laurel cowers as Ross looms over her (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

When did Ross Barton join Emmerdale?

Ross first joined Emmerdale in 2013, attempting to steal Laurel’s car. Laurel managed to escape, but Ross drove off in her car. She then tracked him down and tried to attack him with a pair of scissors.

It was later revealed that Ross was the son of James and Emma Barton, making him the nephew of Moira Dingle.

Despite this shaky start, his complex-but-charismatic nature meant that Ross became a fan favourite with viewers. And no cheating or dognapping was going to change that.

    Biggest storylines

Ross was part of many a memorable storyline during his five years in the village.

He teamed up with Charity for a dodgy dognapping plot and became involved in many dangerous schemes including one to kill his own brother, Pete. He was also a drug dealer and carjacker in his time.

    Affair with Debbie

Ross’s affair with Debbie, who was engaged to his brother, was big news in 2015 when the truth came out at the wedding, right before a helicopter was knocked out of the sky and came crashing into the venue.

Pete beat Ross to what he thought was death. He then drove his brother’s body into the woods and buried him. But Ross was actually alive and was later seen to be waking from a coma in hospital.

    Love for Donna

Actor Michael Parr really came into his own and won over the viewers with the more heart-wrenching storylines.

He was in a relationship with Donna Windsor, and was heartbroken over her terminal lung cancer diagnosis. Knowing she was dying anyway, Donna ended up throwing herself off a building as she fought to bring a gangster to justice. Ross was utterly distraught and only his relationship with Donna’s daughter April saved him from complete despair.

    Acid attack

The most hard-hitting story saw Ross suffer from depression after becoming a victim of an acid attack. The assault itself had been arranged by his former lover Debbie Dingle, who had meant for another of her exes, Joe Tate, to be the target.

Ross was left with permanent scars on his face and Michael and Emmerdale received huge praise for the storyline.

Ross Barton’s painkiller addiction on Emmerdale

Following the attack, Ross developed an addiction to painkillers. Struggling to cope with the pain of the initial attack and an infection in the weeks following, Ross was in denial about his increasing reliance on the pills – and lied to Rhona that he’d sought help.

This came to a head when Liam refused to give him any more drugs. He hit an all-new low when he lashed out at Rhona, pushing her to the ground and leaving her terrified for her safety. Realising how bad things had gotten, he immediately apologised and sought help for the problem.

How many children does Ross have?

Ross shares one child with Charity – Moses Dingle, who was born of their one-night stand in 2015. When he left the soap in 2018, Ross did so with Rebecca White and her son, Sebastian.

However, tragedy struck in Ross and Rebecca’s time away – she died during a routine surgery, and Seb went off to live with a mystery aunt.

Why did Ross return to Emmerdale?

Prior to his return, Emmerdale teased: “With old wounds still to heal, his presence in the village is likely to stir up feelings and ignite some new rivalries.”

The soap soon made good on its promise, with Ross arriving amid an explosive bare-knuckle boxing storyline for Billy. Getting in deep with gangster and boxing promoter Jade, Ross found himself in hot water.

This led to the kidnap of April, and a rescue attempt by Ross. This, in turn, led to her learning the truth about mum Donna’s death. When April went missing, Ross pitched in helping Marlon with the search, and was relieved when she eventually turned up (relatively) safe and (relatively) sound.

But can he and the other villagers ever learn to trust Dylan?

  • Rhona Goskirk in Emmerdale: Vet, former addict and domestic violence survivor

Rhona Goskirk in Emmerdale: Vet, former addict and domestic violence survivor

Tonight’s episode of Emmerdale (Monday, March 10) saw Rhona Goskirk face the ghosts of her own past as Dylan became talk of the town amid speculation ran rife about his drug addiction. Rhona is no stranger to addiction herself – battling her own painkiller addiction in 2010.

The episode also saw mention to Rhona’s more recent strife, as Marlon brought up her custody battle with Gus over baby Ivy. All ancient history, but these disparate threads from Rhona’s life are never far from the surface.

But what happened with Rhona’s own addiction to painkillers? And how did her war with Gus come to an end?

Rhona Goskirk promo shot as she stands looking serious in the dock in court in Emmerdale

Who is Rhona Goskirk in Emmerdale?

She’s a proud mum, wife and best friend of fellow vet Vanessa Woodfield. Rhona is the daughter of Mary Goskirk and the late Barry Goskirk.
She works as a Veterinary surgeon at Emmerdale Veterinary Surgery.

Rhona is married to Marlon Dingle and is the ex-wife of Gus Malcolms, Paddy Kirk and Pierce Harris.

She has two children – her son Leo Goskirk, and baby daughter Ivy Malcolms. Rhona is also stepmum to Marlon’s daughter, April Windsor.

The character has overcome huge battles in her life, including an addiction to painkillers and nursing her husband Marlon back to health after he suffered a stroke.

Rhona is a survivor of domestic abuse, which she suffered at the hands of her ex-husband, Pierce.

Her world was further rocked in late 2023 when she discovered her former husband Gus Malcolms and his wife Lucy had used her frozen embryos without consent to conceive a child.

When did Rhona Goskirk join Emmerdale?

Rhona was introduced by Emmerdale series producer Steve Frost and made her debut on September 17 2001. She was initially brought in as a recurring character for the first couple of years before being reintroduced full-time in March 2010.

Rhona first appeared as a locum vet, who was covering for Zoe Tate when she was on holiday. She began a romance with local chef Marlon Dingle, but the relationship fizzled out and Rhona left the village.

Returning in June 2002 to cover for Zoe again, Rhona rekindled things with Marlon. It wasn’t a case of second time lucky though, and Rhona left again only six months later.

    The arrival of Leo

Rhona returned to the village in 2010. It turned out during her eight year absence, Rhona married a man called Gus Malcolms, but their union had ended in divorce.

She began a relationship with fellow vet Paddy Kirk, but found out she was expecting on/off boyfriend Marlon Dingle’s baby. During her pregnancy, Rhona’s unborn baby was diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome. In May 2011 Rhona gave birth to a baby boy, who she named Leo.

Four years later Rhona became broody for another baby. She and Paddy looked into adoption, but things fell apart when Rhona discovered Paddy had been playing away with Leo’s teacher, Tess Harris.

Unable to get over his betrayal, the couple called it quits.

Rhona’s abusive marriage to Pierce Harris

Tragedy struck when Tess was run over by Kirin Kotecha and subsequently died. Tess’s widower, Pierce Harris came to the village searching for answers about his wife’s death and discovered the truth about Tess’s affair with Paddy.

Pierce then turned his attentions to Rhona and the scorned duo embarked on an affair. He quickly moved in with Rhona, but his controlling nature soon became evident when he set about reorganising everything to his exacting tastes.

Pierce was also consumed with jealous paranoia over Rhona’s history with Paddy, which made memories from his own traumatic past resurface.

After Rhona agreed to become Pierce’s wife in February 2017 his possessive behaviour ramped up another gear and he coerced his fiancée into making a sex tape.

The couple married on April 24 2017, but what should have been a happy day ended in unimaginable horror when Pierce violently raped his new bride.

Rhona went to the police and they arrested Pierce. He stood trial in the July of that year and Rhona bravely attended court to give evidence against him. The jury found Pierce guilty and he was sentenced to five years in prison.

Sadly though, this wasn’t the end of Rhona’s nightmare…

    The return of Pierce

In December 2019, Rhona discovered that Pierce was up for parole. The following month he made a dramatic return to the village and murdered Rhona’s then-boyfriend Graham Foster, who she was planning to move to France with.

Pierce framed Marlon Dingle for murder and started stalking Rhona from afar. Events came to a climax when Rhona came to Vanessa’s rescue after Pierce held her and young son Johnny hostage. Rhona live-streamed the situation to everyone in the Woolpack and Pierce was arrested.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for his crimes and Rhona was finally free of him. He died of cancer in 2022.

Rhona Goskirk battled painkiller addiction in Emmerdale

In 2010, Rhona was prescribed medication to help with a back injury. This led to a crippling painkiller addiction which put her career – and life – at risk.

As a result of the dangerous habit, Rhona’s personality drastically changed. She risked her career by stealing pills from the surgery’s medicine cabinet in an attempt to get her fix.

Loyal pal Vanessa tried to help by getting Rhona to ration the supplies – but the situation only got messier when Vanessa confessed she’d fallen for Rhona.

After getting caught up with a dodgy dealer called Gary, Rhona’s wake-up call came as she collapsed and was rushed to hospital. The doctors informed Rhona her kidneys were on the verge of collapse.

Helping Ross with his painkiller addiction

The frightening news and threat of losing Leo prompted Rhona to go to rehab and get clean. Years later, she was able to support Ross Barton, who had become addicted to painkillers himself, and was spiralling out of control.

Recognising the signs, she encouraged Ross to get help and clean up.

    Rhona’s other love interests

Rhona is married to chef Marlon, but her love life has certainly had its ups and downs.

After the trauma of her split with Paddy and ordeal at the hands of Peirce, Rhona fell for farmhand Peter Barton.

The couple got engaged in 2019, but the relationship faltered after Rhona was injured in a farming accident. She had to undergo a hysterectomy and was and told she’d never be able to have more children.

Rhona and Pete finally finished after she shared a kiss with Nate Robinson.

    Marriage to Marlon

Rhona and Marlon reunited for the fourth time in 2021. They at first just enjoyed spending family time together, but that grew into something more and they decided to give things another go.

Both planned to propose to the other, but various mishaps meant it didn’t happen. Rhona eventually planned a surprise party for Marlon’s birthday and decided to pop the question there. Marlon got down on his knee at the same time and the couple got engaged.

However tragedy struck when Marlon went home to get the ring and had a stroke. He was found by daughter April and rushed to hospital.

It’s been a long road to recovery, but Marlon and Rhona have persevered. They finally married in August 2022 with Marlon surprising his bride by walking down the aisle.

    Is Ivy really Rhona’s daughter?

Ivy was conceived using one of Rhona’s embryos that had been frozen when she was with Gus. He used them with his new wife Lucy without Rhona’s permission.

However, even though biologically Ivy is a part of Rhona, she doesn’t have any legal rights.

Baby Ivy arrived in the world safely, but sadly Lucy died due to complications from child birth. Acting on her maternal instincts, Rhona became attached to little Ivy and was desperate to be part of her daughter’s life.

When Gus announced his intention to move to France with Ivy, Rhona panicked and snatched Ivy – but found herself under arrest for kidnap and was forced to stand trial.

She was found not guilty and Gus was then made to stand trial for fraud. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, meaning Ivy went to live with Rhona and Marlon.

Marlon was close to divorcing Rhona after she turned on Gus in court during her victim impact statement and made sure he went down for a long time. Marlon felt it was too far and she was being selfish. He also got upset that she didn’t consult him and revealed it has been a pattern of their relationship.

They eventually agreed to work hard to save their marriage.

Rhona Goskirk’s past dragged up as April went missing in Emmerdale

On Christmas Day 2024, Rhona and Marlon’s worlds turned upside down when daughter April went missing. Rhona’s own past came back to haunt her when an article from the Hotten Corier implied she’d been to blame for April’s disappearance.

April since resurfaced, returning home to Marlon and Rhona earlier this year. However, she wasn’t alone – and her friend from the streets, Dylan, came looking for her a few weeks later. Dylan’s friendship with April has alarm bells ringing for Marlon and Rhona – particularly the latter, who realises how dangerous addiction can be.

    Who plays Rhona Goskirk?

Rhona Goskirk in Emmerdale is played by British actress Zoe Henry. Zoe was born on 3 September 1973 and grew up in Essex. She attended Manchester Metropolitan University School of Theatre.

Zoe’s first TV role was a bit part in the pilot episode of Cold Feet. Prior to Emmerdale she also had parts in dramas such as Grafters, Dalziel and Pascoe, The Bill and A Touch of Frost. She also played in the lead in BBC drama Conviction.

What’s Next for Cain Dingle in Emmerdale? Fan theories on what the bad boy of the village will do next

It’s been a rough year so far, but things finally seem to be on the up for Cain Dingle in Emmerdale. Cain has been in a dark place ever since cheating on wife Moira in a fling with sister-in-law Ruby last year.

Since then, he’s wrestled with his guilt, managing to pull himself together enough to support Moira through her recovery and subsequent foll0w-up treatment. However, his dark secret came out on Valentine’s Day (how romantic) after a confrontation with Caleb aired his dirty laundry all over the village.

Cain confessed to Moira, who was devastated by his betrayal. While it looked for a while as though their marriage was over, the pair reconciled this week, putting Cain and Moira back on an even keel.

But what’s next for Cain Dingle? His marriage may have been saved, but there’s still much to come for the Dingle hardman…

Concentrate on rebuilding his family… carefully

First things first, Cain will need to start rebuilding his family. While Moira reassured him that he didn’t need to make it up to her – to “just make it work” – Cain will still want to rebuild a foundation of trust.

This includes Matty, who was fuming at the news that Moira had taken back Cain in spite of his betrayal. Cain was patient as Matty lashed out on Thursday, describing him as his son, in spite of all that had gone on.

“That Matty and Cain scene tonight was so lovely, I really need to see them have more of a bond in the coming months,” wrote one viewer.

But does Cain need to watch his back? One fan theory has suggested that Moira might not be quite so forgiving after all.

“Hmmmm I still think she’s up to something,” suggested one fan.

“Cain’s slow as hell. Although I don’t believe Moira for a second,” said another.

Hold a self-pity party after the death of Nate

One dark cloud over the horizon is the impending revelation that Nate is dead. In the aftermath of the limo crash last month, the soap confirmed that Nate is dead – and currently chained up in an icy lake.

With Nate’s death sure to come out eventually, Cain won’t take the news well – especially considering how they parted, with Cain beating him up after falsely accusing his son of seducing Moira again.

“Cain is gonna think worse about himself soon. The last time he saw him, he beat him up for something he didn’t do and never got to apologise to him,” one fan pointed out on Reddit.

Between feeling sorry for himself and caring for his sick wife, Cain has also had to contend with a murder cover-up. While John appeared to ease worried minds by showing them where he’d stashed the body (or did he?) Steph is still asking some difficult questions.

And some think that Cain will be the one to spill the beans about her granddad’s true nature.

“I think Cain is going to be the one who tells Steph the truth about Anthony raping her mother and his role her conception,” one fan shared on X.

Emmerdale flash-forwards suggest Cain puts Caleb in hospital… or worse

As their feud escalated last week, Cain issued his brother a chilling threat. This came as he learned Caleb had planned to frame him for Anthony’s murder.

And, with a flash-forward still to play out, fans know that Caleb will find himself flatlining in hospital later this year. Is this a result of Cain making good on his threat?

“I reckon the flash forward of Caleb flatlining in hospital is because he killed Nate, Cain finds out and puts him in a coma,” suggested one fan.

“Is Cain at Nate’s graveside and is that the reason Caleb in hospital? Because Cain found out he killed his son?” another asked, referencing the second flash-forward – which saw Cain looking distraught at a mystery grave.

    Cain to leave Emmerdale?

In the run-up to the ice limo crash, many viewers stressed that the fan-favourite Dingle might be leaving the soap. Actor Jeff Hordley didn’t exactly do much to assuage those fears either, saying previously: “I worry all the time! …Not all the time, that’s a little over the top.

He continued: “Every time there’s news of this [exits] it can settle us as a cast because we know the shelf life of characters in not forever on soaps, and it’s down to the producers and writers to steer the ship and take us in the direction they want to take us.”

Cain may have survived the Valentine’s Day cull, but could a surprise exit be on the cards still?

Cain Dingle profile: Moira forgives Ruby affair, amid rumours he’s leaving Emmerdale

In Emmerdale Cain Dingle is the indisputable bad boy of the village and has been causing carnage for almost half a century!

Cain has a colourful backstory full of criminal capers and forbidden romances. He’s had affairs with a policewoman, a vicar, his own cousin – and his own brother’s wife!

Cain was finally tamed by feisty farmer, Moira Dingle, who he married in 2014. The couple remain together, but their journey to happiness certainly hasn’t been straightforward.

Last month, Moira discovered what we fans have known for a while – that Cain slept with Ruby. At first, Moira told him their marriage was done, but has now had a change of heart and told him she wants to give their marriage another go.

    Cain’s arrival in the Dales

Cain arrived in Emmerdale on March 30, 2000 just months into the new millennium.

Introduced as the black sheep of the Dingle family, Cain showed his criminal tendencies early on. Manipulative and cunning, rather than evil to the core, Cain’s speciality was always getting involved in scams.

But he’s not always got away with his crimes. Cain has been sentenced to prison on more than one occasion. His most recent stint inside was when he confessed to shooting Al Chapman, although it was soon discovered Cain wasn’t the guilty party.

It’s not always been plain sailing for Cain and his siblings (Credit: ITV)

    Who is Cain Dingle’s dad?

A Dingle through and through, Cain is the son of Zak Dingle and Faith Dingle. Faith was married to Zak’s brother Shadrach Dingle, but had a one-night stand with Zak on Valentine’s Day 1974, the product of which was Cain. He had no idea Zak was his biological dad until it came out in true soap fashion while they were in the middle of a fight.

From his dad’s side, Cain’s got six half-siblings – Nathan, Sam, Belle and Tina – who recently returned to the village after almost three decades away. Plus he’s also half-brother to the late Ben and Butch Dingle. He shares mum Faith with Chas Dingle and Caleb Miligan.

    Cain’s kids

Cain is a dad of four, by four different women. He has one daughter, Debbie Dingle, and three sons, Nate Robinson – who is currently not speaking to his dad and has moved to Shetland, Kyle Winchester and Isaac Dingle.

After Faith walked out on her family, teenage Cain  stepped up to care for his sister. Alcoholic Shadrach was not a good dad and regularly beat Cain, although he never harmed Chas.

When Faith came back into the siblings’ lives in 2017, Cain did not want to know. It took her terminal breast cancer diagnosis in 2022 to finally unite mother and son. He was with her when she took her own life in emotional scenes aired in October 2022.

    Finding Caleb

She left behind a big secret: son Caleb, who came to the village to reunite with his brother and sister after Faith’s death. Chas had no idea he even existed and Cain didn’t catch on to his real identity until Caleb confessed he was Faith’s son by Frank Tate.

The brothers were at war at the start, but have reconciled and they’re beginning to build a relationship.

Cain and Charity’s history and how they are related

You could write a book on Cain and Charity’s dysfunctional relationship!

The second cousins had a fling when they were 14 and 13 respectively. This resulted in the birth of their daughter, Debbie in October 1989, who was subsequently given up for adoption.

Debbie came to live in the village in the Christmas of 2002 when she was fostered by Paddy Kirk and his then-wife, Emily. She reconnected with her birth parents and the trio formed a close bond.

The return of their daughter prompted Cain and Charity to give things another go. They somehow managed to make it work until 2005, when Charity ditched Cain – and the village – for a fresh start elsewhere.

She returned four years later. The pair rekindled their romance and Cain popped the question in December 2009, presenting Charity with a plastic engagement ring.

Cain then planned a surprise wedding. But Charity decided she wasn’t ready to settle down and called their engagement off.

The pair finally called it quits shortly afterwards when Cain strayed with glamorous Faye Lamb and Charity left him for Jai Sharma.

Since then there’s been a few cheeky liaisons – including a brief affair in 2016 – but no long-term reunion, much to the disappointment of some fans who believe Cain’s heart truly lies with Charity.

    Forbidden affairs

Cain Dingle  has amassed quite a few notches on his bedpost during his time in Emmerdale and has a speciality for stealing other bloke’s wives!

His first entanglement was an ill-fated one with married police officer, Angie Reynolds. Their toxic affair was fuelled by lust and revenge – on both sides – and Cain even bedded Angie’s teenage daughter Ollie in a bid to try and make her jealous.

Tragedy struck in 2002 when Angie tried to set Cain up for robbery, but was fatally injured in a car crash.

Cain’s penchant for a bit of posh also led him to sleep with Jimmy King’s wife, Sadie.

His next conquest was student and barmaid Jasmine Thomas. Cain ruthlessly bedded her to try and get back at daughter Debbie.

Maisie Wylde was the next local lass to fall for Cain’s charms. He then finally got his wicked way with ice queen Faye Lamb.

When Charity chucked him for Jai Sharma in 2010, Cain went on the rebound and slept with teenager Amy Wyatt. This resulted in her falling pregnant with their son, Kyle.

Cain then briefly dated Priya Kotecha, but things fizzled out between them.

Then came the affair, which turned into the greatest love of Cain’s life…

The taming of Cain Dingle in Emmerdale

In 2011, Cain embarked on a torrid affair with Moira Barton, who was up until that point happily married to farmer husband John.

After John’s death in 2012, the lovers resumed their relationship. Cain proposed in October 2013.

The couple got married the following year, but old habits die hard and Cain was back in Charity’s bed by 2016.

Moira forgave Cain’s affair, but this Dingle is a repeat offender – and was soon having it away with the village vicar, Harriet Finch.

After that fling ended badly, Cain found his way back to his wife and the couple even survived Moira’s scandalous affair with Nate Robinson – who turned out to be Cain’s long-lost son.

Their marriage hit a bump again recently when Moira began behaving strangely. But though Cain was unsupportive at first, when Moira was diagnosed with a brain tumour, he was devastated and he’s been by her side ever since.

    Cain’s brushes with death

Cain might as well be called the terminator of Emmerdale, he’s escaped death that many times!

In December 2011, one of Emmerdale’s biggest whodunits was launched when Cain was attacked and left for dead by one of his many enemies. The storyline, dubbed ‘Judgement Day’, saw Cain end up in coma.

It was eventually revealed that Cain’s own dad, Zak, was the culprit. Cain went on to make a full recovery. Zak later had a mental breakdown as a result of his actions.

Another near-death moment came when Moira’s son Adam Barton set fire to Cain’s garage with him inside. It was payback for him destroying his parent’s marriage – but Cain lived to tell the tale.

    More near misses!

Cain was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm in 2014. He almost drowned in a freezing cold river after ignoring doctor’s advice to have it operated on.

He also survived a huge explosion on a boat after trying get his revenge on Nate for sleeping with Moira.

Most recently he had a to-the-death fight with nephew Aaron Dingle. Cain almost had the upper-hand, but Aaron dealt a devastating final blow that landed Cain in hospital with a brain injury. He survived, however, and checked himself out against doctor’s orders the next day.

AND he even braved the raging barn fire back in September, to rescue Moira.

    Saving Kyle

Cain might have made a lot of mistakes in life, but he’s proved himself to be a decent dad. Daughter Debbie and son Nate grew up estranged from Cain, but he’s since rebuilt a relationship with them.

His young son Kyle Winchester was also adopted and was brought up by his adoptive grandmother Joanie Wright until her death. Cain at first did not want anything to do with his son, but after much coaxing from his family, he finally took custody of him in 2018.

Although bonding has not been straightforward, Cain committed the ultimate sacrifice in 2022. He took the fall for Kyle over the shooting of Al Chapman. Kyle had witnessed his dad and Al in a fight and pulled the trigger to stop Al killing his Cain.

Cain served time in prison for murder, but Kyle later confessed it was him. Despite Moira, Amy and Cain all insisting Kyle kept quiet and Cain was to take the rap, it didn’t happen and Cain was released.

Who plays Cain Dingle and who’s he married to in real life?

Cain Dingle in Emmerdale is played by British actor Jeff Hordley. He was born on March 7, 1970 and raised in Oldham, Manchester.

Jeff attended North Chadderton Comprehensive before graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University School of Theatre with a BA (Hons) degree in Theatre Acting.

His first TV appearance was in an episode of the kids’ hospital drama, Children’s Ward.

Emmerdale isn’t Jeff’s first Soapland rodeo either. The actor has starred in two episodes of Coronation Street. He played a nightclub manager in 1997, then a character called Wayne the year after.

In real-life, Jeff is happily married to his Emmerdale co-star Zoe Henry, who plays vet Rhona Goskirk.

The couple have been together for 30 years after meeting when they were students at the same drama school. They have two teenage children – daughter Violet and son Stan.

Jeff has a side-line career as a DJ. He’s also a very keen gardener, growing his own produce on the family allotment.

    Is Cain Dingle leaving Emmerdale?

Right now, there’s concern from fans of both Emmerdale and ITV stablemate Coronation Street about characters leaving the soaps – due, in part, to the announcement of multiple exits from the network favourites.

There’s been further worry from Emmerdale fans due to the huge February storyline involving the limo lake crash.

Jeff Hordley has previously said about his future on the show: “I worry all the time! …Not all the time, that’s a little over the top.

“Every time there’s news of this [exits] it can settle us as a cast because we know the shelf life of characters in not forever on soaps, and it’s down to the producers and writers to steer the ship and take us in the direction they want to take us.”

Emmerdale without Cain seems unimaginable, and there’s all the fallout from his affair with Ruby and his part in covering up Anthony’s murder on screen right now, so we can’t see him going any time soon – thankfully!

  • As Jacob looks set to become a dad, Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant admits: ‘This might be the kick Jacob needs’

As Jacob looks set to become a dad, Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant admits: ‘This might be the kick Jacob needs’

Jacob is in a bad place, according to Joe-Warren Plant, who plays the troubled med student in Emmerdale. The heartbreaking death of his mum Leyla has taken its toll. He’s lonely, isolated, working hard on his medical studies and generally burning the candle at both ends.

It’s a testing time for the wannabe doctor. So we caught up with Joe-Warren, who plays Jacob, to find out what’s going on with his alter ego.

Joe-Warren Plant aka Jacob and Sarah in Emmerdale

Is Sarah the one for Jacob in Emmerdale?

One bright spot in Jacob’s life is Sarah – until this week when he cruelly rejects her just as she thinks she could be pregnant.

So is Jacob just lashing out under the stress of planning his mum’s funeral? Or has he decided Sarah isn’t the one for him after all?

“His feelings for Sarah are definitely genuine,” says Joe-Warren. “Over the last few weeks and months even he’s been struggling with his placement on A&E, he’s not got off to the best start there, but he does genuinely care about Sarah. It’s nice to see their relationship grow.”

Jacob looks pensive in the pub

    Jacob’s going off the rails

Though Jacob’s feelings are genuine, his behaviour this week doesn’t bode well for poor Sarah. He’s having trouble coping with Leyla’s death, he’s been sent home from the hospital because he’s finding it too hard, and so he meets up with new friend Rich to get drunk.

He even invites a load of random people from uni to a party at Leyla’s house. So is Rich trouble for Jacob?

“They have a lot in common, but with the pressures that the job brings it opens people up to coping mechanisms,” explains Joe-Warren.  “Jacob can be easily led. Rich is a good friend to Jacob, but he’s been taking them down the wrong path.”

Though when Jacob decides to throw a party,  it’s Rich who questions the wisdom of doing such a foolish thing the night before his mum’s funeral and at her house.

But Jacob’s hurt that his dad David – who owns the cottage – isn’t coming to the funeral and he doesn’t care.

“Jacob’s been having difficulties being authentic with his emotions,” says Joe-Warren. “He’s got a lot on his plate. he’s not the best at communicating, it’s eating away at him. He is burning the candle at both ends. But he’s got a good heart.”

    Baby blues?

Meanwhile, Sarah’s got worries of her own. She thinks she could be pregnant.

How would Jacob react if Sarah is expecting his baby?

“Obviously it would come as a shock,” Joe-Warren laughs. “I think if he asked himself if he’s ready to be a father he’d probably say no, but actually  it might be the turning point Jacob needs in his life. It might be the kick Jacob needs to get himself into a better position.”

Could a baby encourage Jacob to ditch the booze and make a go of things with Sarah?

“He’d really want to step up and do the things that he himself didn’t have growing up,” says Joe-Warren.

Jacob begs his mum to wake up
Joe Warren says Leyla’s death was “heartbreaking” (Credit: ITV)

More drama to come for Jacob in Emmerdale says Joe-Warren Plant

It seems with Leyla’s death, Sarah’s possible pregnancy and Jacob’s medical training, Jacob’s got a lot to deal with. And he’s very isolated without his mum Leyla (played by Roxy Shahidi), or his dad David – who was played by Matthew Wolfenden – in the village.

And it’s not easy for Joe-Warren either! He’s played Jacob, alongside Roxy and Matthew since he was a child. He’s been in the show for 15 years – more than half his life.

“Now Matthew and Roxy have gone it’s heartbreaking,” he admits. “But it’s allowed me to work with other people. People I don’t usually have scenes with. It’s been a breath of fresh air really. It’s nice to see what dynamics Jacob has with different characters as well. Rather than being the son of Leyla, it’s nice to play something different.”

Luckily, there’s a family reunion on the horizon. “We’re due to go out for lunch very soon,” he says. “And me and Roxy went down to see Matthew in panto.”

And Joe-Warren says there’s a lot more drama in store for Jacob. “There’s lots more coming up,” he teases.

    We can’t wait!

Rosemary King in Emmerdale: Cruel tricks, murder plot and a very grisly end!

Rosemary King is currently making Sadie’s life a misery in Classic Emmerdale as both her new and ex mother-in-law!

But while she started out as a thorn in Sadie’s side, she became a problem for the whole King family and met a VERY sorry end!

    Here’s the lowdown.

Sadie and Rosemary were sworn enemies from day one (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)
Sadie and Rosemary were sworn enemies from day one (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

    Rosemary Sinclair

Rosemary arrived in Emmerdale early in 2006, as the disapproving future mother-in-law of Sadie King. Sadie was marrying Rosemary’s son, Alasdair, and Rosemary was NOT happy about it.

She tried to bribe Sadie on the wedding day, determined to put an end to the marriage before it had begun. Sadie refused, and the couple said their vows – but Matthew King turned up at the church and Sadie ran off with him instead!

Fuming, Rosemary made a deal with Sadie – she’d hand over the Sinclairs’ most valuable business if Sadie had the marriage annulled.

    Sadie agreed.

But when it came to the handover, Rosemary fleeced Sadie, revealing the business was worthless. And she even told Sadie the meal she’d just eaten had been made from her beloved horse, Cossack! As it turned out, Rosemary was lying but Sadie believed her.

    Rosemary returns to Emmerdale

In the summer of the same year, Rosemary returned to the village, with it being revealed she lived at nearby Oakwell Hall with her other son, Grayson, and his wife, Perdy.

She hit it off with Rodney Blackstock and Tom King – and soon saw an opportunity!

    Rosemary and Tom’s romance

Rosemary and Tom got on well and began working together on various business deals. But there was more to their friendship and they were soon romantically involved – much to the horror of Tom’s sons.

On the quiet, Rosemary was struggling. Her fancy house was owned by her nephew, and her son Grayson was quickly gambling away all the family fortune.

Chas Dingle, meanwhile, could see that despite Rosemary’s murky reasons for starting a relationship with Tom, the pair were actually happy together. She convinced the King brothers to leave them alone.

Rosemary repaid the kindness by encouraging Tom’s dislike of Chas. With Rosemary’s support, he bullied and blackmailed Chas into ending her relationship with Carl and moving out.

Tom and Rosemary’s eventful wedding day!

Rosemary and Tom tied the knot on Christmas Day in 2006. Tom announced he was giving Rosemary the Home Farm Estate as a wedding present. Needless to say, the brothers were fuming. And so was Rosemary when Tom added that he wanted her to leave it to Carl in her will, rather than Grayson.

And so she was one of the many suspects when Tom was pushed out of a window on the wedding day and died!

Rosemary after Tom’s death in Emmerdale

Rosemary stayed at Home Farm, though Matthew and Jimmy both thought she’d murdered Tom and wanted her to leave.

When she found out the brothers had organised Tom’s funeral while she was away, she stole the body.

Things got even more awkward when the will was read and it was revealed Tom had a daughter – Scarlett – who they’d never known about. He’d had a fling with her mother Carrie while she was nursing his first wife, Mary. What a gem, eh?!

Carrie and Rosemary became allies, and relations between the Kings got worse.

Meanwhile, Rosemary became good friends with Zak Dingle and took young Belle under her wing, even paying her school fees.

    Grayson and Perdy

Rosemary’s meddling continued with her son’s marriage. Still covering for Grayson’s gambling, she was determined to get rid of Perdy and marry Grayson off to someone she considered better. She messed with Perdy’s medication and the poor woman ended up being sectioned!

When Grayson realised what his mother had done, he threw her out and told her to leave Emmerdale forever. Rosemary vanished without a trace.

How did Rosemary die in Emmerdale?

The first time Rosemary died, it was all a set-up! She’d staged her disappearance and framed Matthew for her murder.

She’d written a letter to Grayson explaining what she was doing, which Perdy found. Shocked she took it to the Kings, who handed it over to the police, and Matthew was freed.

When Rosemary found out the police were looking for her, she killed herself on Christmas Day 2007.  Her death happened off screen as she was hiding out in Miami!

She was buried with Tom but after the funeral, Matthew returned, dug up the coffin, put it in a bin lorry and crushed it!

  • Charity Dingle on Emmerdale: teen pregnancy, Mark Bails rape ordeal, romance with Vanessa, and killing Damon Harris

Charity Dingle on Emmerdale: teen pregnancy, Mark Bails rape ordeal, romance with Vanessa, and killing Damon Harris

In Emmerdale, Charity Dingle has lived a very turbulent life since first setting foot in the village in 2000.

From her prior love of an illegal scam and rich men, Charity has evolved into a somewhat responsible woman. Now at the centre of the village as the landlady of the Woolpack, Emmerdale wouldn’t be the same without her.

Here is a recap of the iconic character’s history.

Charity arrived in the village in March 2000 for her cousin Butch’s funeral. From the start, it was clear to see that she was a whirlwind and a force to be reckoned with.

As her past was explored, it was revealed that she’d had a baby with her second cousin Cain Dingle when she’d been just 13. The daughter, Debbie, was given up for adoption.

But fate intervened. When Debbie’s adoptive mother fell ill, Debbie just happened to be placed in foster care in the same village her birth mum lived in.

When Debbie shared a photo of her birth mum with Cain, he was shocked to realise it was Charity. Charity was initially a reluctant mother, but soon her and Debbie bonded. Debbie later moved into Home Farm with Charity and her rich husband Chris Tate.

    Framed for murder

As Cain and Charity grew closer over their relationship with Debbie, Chris grew increasingly jealous. Chris started to take his anger out on Debbie, resulting in her going to live with the Dingles.

Charity and Cain soon begun an affair. When Chris found out, he chucked Charity out of Home Farm. Chris soon discovered he had a brain tumour and decided to end his own life.

However, his final act of revenge was to frame Charity for murder. Charity was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to life in prison. While behind bars, she gave birth to her and Chris’s son Noah.

Charity was later released from jail after Chris’s sister Zoe presented evidence that Chris had in fact taken his own life. Zoe supplied this evidence after making a deal with Charity that she’d get her out of jail if she could adopt Noah. But Zoe’s adoption application was rejected and Noah stayed with Charity.

Disastrous marriages to Jai and Declan

Despite interference from Jai’s brother Nikhil and Charity’s jealous former partner Cain, Jai and Charity managed to tie the knot in 2012. But the marriage quickly begun to struggle when Charity told Jai she didn’t want any more children.

As a result, Jai had a one night stand with Rachel. The marriage finally came to an end when Charity noticed how close Jai was to Rachel’s baby Archie and realised that he was in fact Archie’s father.

With the ink barely dry on the divorce papers, Charity married Declan Macey in 2014, making her queen of Home Farm once again. But the relationship was full of lies. After falling pregnant, Charity lied that she’d had a miscarriage during an altercation with Declan’s sister Megan.

Declan was the dramatic type and decided this kind of betrayal could only be punished by murder. But instead of shooting Charity, he accidentally shot and killed his nephew Robbie instead.

    Rape Ordeal

Charity’s youth was traumatic. Following her teen pregnancy, Charity ended up on the streets working as a prostitute. During this time, she came across policeman Mark Bails.

He ended up abusing and raping Charity, as well as pimping her out to his friends. When she was just 14, she gave birth to another child – who we now know to be Ryan Stocks.

Years later, Charity met DI Bails again when he tried to have her convicted for fraud. Charity decided she couldn’t allow him to harm anyone else, so she found the courage to report Bails to the police.

In court, Charity was forced to retell her entire history, including the time he laughed at her when she asked him to stop raping her. Bails was found guilty on multiple counts and given 30 years in prison.

    Romance with Vanessa

While Charity previously explored a same-sex relationship with Zoe Tate, it was her relationship with Vanessa Woodfield that fans really brought into. They even earned the nickname ‘Vanity.’

Charity’s barriers came down with Vanessa and she even proposed to her twice – on the second time her girlfriend said yes.

Charity supported Vanessa through her battle against cancer and officially adopted her son, Johnny. But the old Charity resurfaced and, letting paranoia get in the way, Charity ended up snogging a stranger she’d met on the side of the road.

Vanessa dumped Charity and left the village. Although she later returned, she couldn’t forget the betrayal. Though fans continue to push for a Vanity reunion.

Love triangle and Damon Harris murder

After falling for Mackenzie Boyd, Charity found herself in a love triangle after he got Chloe pregnant. Despite marrying Charity, after Mack was outed as Reuben’s father, he decided to begin a relationship with Chloe. But the feelings between Mack and Charity remained.

This all came to a head during a famous Emmerdale stunt scene, when Mack chose to save Charity over Chloe, when the car they were in was dangerously close to falling off a cliff.

Unfortunately for Mack, Chloe’s dad Damon ‘Harry’ Harris was a notable gangster and he took Mack hostage. Charity trailed Harry to a derelict warehouse where she saw his gun in hand ready to kill Mack. She attempted to wrestle the gun from Harry, but in the altercation it went off, killing Harry.

In the aftermath, Charity had nightmares over killing Harry. In her confused state she almost ended up committing another murder after stabbing Mack.

  • How many people has Charity killed in Emmerdale? From Damon Harris shooting to Leyla crash death

How many people has Charity killed in Emmerdale? From Damon Harris shooting to Leyla crash death

Charity Dingle is a good person – pretty much. And yet, as she pointed out earlier this week in Emmerdale, she’s killed quite a few people now!

And she’s even been in prison for  murder, though to be fair, she didn’t actually do that particular crime.

“Why do I keep killing people?” Charity asked Mack in an emotional episode.

So we thought we’d take a look at the people whose lives she’s taken – in a roundabout way

    Charity killed Damon Harris

Damon ‘Harry’ Harris was Chloe’s gangster dad. He inserted himself back in Chloe’s life when her relationship with Mackenzie Boyd fell apart.

When Damon discovered Mack had left Chloe to die in the car accident – choosing to rescue Charity instead – he was furious.

Desperate for revenge, he kidnapped Mack and held him hostage for days. Charity was convinced something was wrong, though and tracked him down. In the confrontation that followed, Damon threatened to shoot Mack. Charity tried to stop him and accidentally shot him instead!

    And Suzy Merton

Of course we all know the drama of this week’s episodes that left Suzy dead. On Valentine’s Day, Charity was driving the limo full of over-excited women to their night out. But as she headed down the dark country lanes, Noah stepped out in front of the car!

WHAT? What on earth was Charity’s son doing in a daze in the middle of the road? We still don’t know, but we do know that Charity swerved to avoid him, lost control of the huge car and plunged into an icy lake.

Suzy was killed instantly in the collision.

Charity killed Leyla Harding in Emmerdale

Poor Leyla was a victim of the same collision, though she didn’t die instantly. She was stabbed with a broken glass as the car came to rest in the ice, and it took her a little while to notice what had happened.

Leyla was alive when the paramedics arrived but she had lost so much blood that she died in the ambulance on the way to hospital. In heartbreaking scenes, her medical student son Jacob tried to resuscitate his mum, only to be pulled away by the doctor.

Another death on Charity’s hands as Amy Barton passed away

The week wasn’t done with deaths after Suzy and Leyla. Despite fighting hard and waking up long enough to utter “Nate, underwater,” Amy Barton did not make it.

She had fallen under the ice while trying to escape the limo. Tracy had gone to pull her out and drag her to safety, but Amy was suffering severe hypothermia. Amy was rushed to hospital where they tried to gradually warm her up.

However her heart just couldn’t take it and to the devastation of her husband, Matty, mum, Kerry, and son, Kyle, Amy died.

Charity now has three deaths in a week on her hands.

Chris Tate dies on the floor with Charity trying to help him

But Charity didn’t kill Chris Tate

Chris and Charity were happy together for a little while. Their marriage was fiery and it definitely had its ups and downs, but they stuck together until Charity rekindled her romance with Cain. That was the final straw for Chris.

So when he found out he had a fatal brain tumour, he began to plot. Knowing he only had a few months to live, Chris decided to take vicious revenge on his cheating wife.

He was going to kill himself and frame Charity for the crime!

The plan worked. Chris asked Charity round to reconcile and she came as he asked. He made sure her fingerprints were on a champagne glass filled with poison, and even made a secret phonecall to the police. As he collapsed and died on the floor his last word was “whore”! That’s brutal!

Charity was arrested, tried and sent to prison for Chris’s murder. She gave birth to baby Noah in jail. But Zoe Tate – Chris’s sister – knew the truth. She agreed to sign a statement saying Chris killed himself if Charity gave her Noah.

The deal was done, Zoe handed over the statement and the £10k Charity had asked for and Ms Dingle walked free.

But eventually she fought to get Noah back and that £10k was burned by a disgusted Debbie.

Charity didn’t have the cash, but she did have her freedom and her son.

  • Nate Robinson in Emmerdale: steamy affair with Moira, marriage to Tracy and grisly death

Nate Robinson in Emmerdale: steamy affair with Moira, marriage to Tracy and grisly death

Nate Robinson left Emmerdale back in the autumn when he went to work in Shetland.

    Or so we thought.

Now in a shocking twist (that lots of fans predicted!) we have discovered that Nate is actually dead. He’s trapped beneath the ice in the same frozen lake the limo plunged into in this week’s dramatic episodes.

It’s a lot to take in. So while we get our heads round it all, we thought we’d do a quick recap of everything Nate got up to in his time in the village.

    Nate Robinson arrives in Emmerdale

Way back in 2019, Rhona met Nate in a club and they shared a kiss. A few days later she was horrified to bump into him in the village after he’d landed a job at Butler’s. There was a bit of a to-do when Rhona’s then-boyfriend Pete Barton found out about the kiss, but it was all smoothed over and Nate started work at the farm.

He was a hit with the local ladies

Nate began seeing Amy Wyatt but it was Moira Dingle who really caught his eye. The chemistry between the pair was sizzling! Not surprisingly, Nate seemed to take an instant dislike to Cain and he took a lot of delight in telling Moira she could do better.

Nate and Moira’s affair in Emmerdale

In summer 2019, Moira finally gave into temptation and kissed her hunky farmhand. She told him it was a mistake but just a month or so later, she they slept together. And when Cain went to visit Debbie in Aberdeen, things got even steamier between the pair.

    Spotted!

When Amy confessed to Nate that she and Kerry were responsible for the fire that killed Frank Clayton, Nate wanted to know more.

He spoke to Tracy about it but when Kerry spotted him, she thought he was revealing all about their involvement. Amy kicked off and Nate stormed away.

Wanting to calm it all down, Kerry went to speak to Nate, only to spot him in bed with Moira! He blackmailed Kerry, telling her he’d not go to the police if she kept quiet about his affair. Kerry agreed on condition he broke it off with Amy.

    Cain takes revenge

By the October of that year, things were heating up with Moira and Nate, but Cain was on to them! He lured them both on a boat trip and confronted them. The men ended up fighting, only for Nate to reveal that he was Cain’s long-lost son! Cain hadn’t even known he existed. As the pair tussled, the boat was rocked by an explosion – but fortunately everyone on board made it to safety. Which was more than we could say for Cain and Moira’s marriage – that was definitely over!

Nate Robinson takes revenge in Emmerdale!

Nate thought Cain had known his mum Cara was pregnant and had abandoned them both. Seducing Moira had been part of his revenge plan.

But Faith – Cain’s mum – explained that hadn’t been the case. It took a while, and the rest of the Dingles welcoming him into the family, but Nate eventually managed to forgive his dad – and his dad forgave him, too.

    Nate Robinson: Falling for Tracy

In early 2020, Tracy Metcalfe began dating Nate. The pair quickly got serious and by the summer Tracy was pregnant. During her pregnancy Nate was framed for a hit and run accident on Moira.

It turned out the real culprit was Jamie Tate, but for many complicated reasons – mostly to protect his aunt, Belle Dingle, Nate took the blame. Luckily he avoided a prison sentence so he was there when his daughter Frankie was born.

    Tracy’s PND

Not long after Frankie was born, Tracy began acting strangely. She was distant and moody. Nate was trying to support her, and he proposed – Tracy accepted but she was really struggling.

The very next day, she went missing with little Frankie. Fortunately, Nate’s grandmother Faith found her and realised she had severe post-natal depression. Both Tracy and Frankie went to a mother and baby unit to get treatment. When she returned, though, it wasn’t all plain sailing and Nate found it difficult.

Nate cheats on Tracy in Emmerdale

On a night out with Mack, Nate met a woman called Fiona Murphy. It was just a one-night stand, but he was horrified when she arrived in the village as the new girlfriend of his sister-in-law Vanessa!

Obviously the secret was out. Tracy was devastated and took a job in Nottingham.

    Nate and Naomi

Newly single Nate started a romance with Naomi Walters.  But as it turned out he was way too boring for wild Naomi! He wasn’t that boring, though, because when Tracy returned briefly, she and Nate hooked up.

But she revealed she was engaged to someone else and slioped off back to Nottingham. Nate and Naomi split too. He had a brief fling with Chloe Harris. But he was hiding a secret…

Nate and Tracy’s wedding in Emmerdale

In the summer of 2023, Nate was acting strangely. Cain and Moira thought he was up to something and followed him to the town hall, where they spotted Tracy in a wedding dress. Worried Nate was going to try to stop her wedding, they bundled him into their car.

But it turned out HE was supposed to be marrying Tracy. They eventually tied the knot and settled down together in Emmerdale.

    Dodgy decisions

Suffering from money troubles, Nate began working for his old friend Corey Sanderson. He got a job as a chauffeur for a gangster called Harry but when he was asked to shift some guns, Nate panicked and got rid of them.

Luckily, Caleb stepped in to help get Nate off the hook.

    Caleb and Tracy

Meanwhile. sparks flew between Caleb and Tracy and the pair were soon having a torrid affair. Ruby revealed all at Belle’s wedding reception and not surprisingly, Nate and Tracy split. It was very acrimonious, but slowly Nate and Tracy began talking again.

In September 2024, Nate landed a job in Shetland. Tracy and Frankie were going to join him but events overtook their plans. Moira was acting strangely with her brain tumour – though she didn’t know that yet – and she tried to kiss Nate. Caleb saw it, told Cain – and Tracy. And everything fell apart. Cain attacked Nate, while Tracy announced she wasn’t going to Shetland after all.

The last person to see Nate in the village was John Sugden. Nate told John he was leaving for good. A few days later Tracy got a message saying he was settling down in Shetland and he’d be in touch. But he wasn’t – not even when his grandad Zak died.

The death of Nate Robinson in Emmerdale

But now it seems he was in the lake all along! Nate’s made a few enemies in his time but surely none that hated him enough to kill him?

Nate was discovered by Amy Barton who fell under the ice into the water below. She had been trying to get out of the limo she’d been travelling in that had crashed on to a frozen lake.

The ice cracked beneath her and she fell in, only to be terrified to see an arm in there with her. The arm was wearing a distinctive friendship bracelet, like Frankie makes, and that Nate was wearing when he was last seen.

Amy uttered Nate’s name in hospital as she fought for her life, confirming it was him she saw, but when will his body be found?
