What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Heartbreaking news about April as Jacob suffered the worst first day ever

Emmerdale tonight aired a dramatic standalone episode featuring Jacob’s first day in A&E and he messed up big time when he thought April had been stabbed.

Meanwhile, Sarah and Moira both found themselves at the hospital too leaving Jacob with all sorts of fires to fight.

Here’s all that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Thursday January 2, 2025.

Jacob’s first day quickly went wrong

Jacob met Dr Todd on his first day in A&E as he excitedly posted selfies from outside the hospital.

Things soon took a dramatic turn when a teenage stab victim was brought in and April’s bank card and purse was found on her. Jacob immediately called Marlon, who raced to the hospital desperate for news.

Jacob was in serious trouble for calling the family, Dr Todd was fuming. Despite his protestations the doctor did not want to hear it, though she allowed Jacob into the relatives’ room when she spoke to Marlon and Rhona, revealing ‘April’s’ condition was serious.

Anna arrived and told them they thought it was a street robbery gone wrong, but she intimated that April could have started it, sparking Marlon’s anger once more.

The stab victim didn’t make it

Jacob was devastated as he watched Marlon breakdown when the news was delivered that ‘April’ didn’t make it. Marlon wanted to see the body and the police asked him to make a formal identification. Fortunately it was not April. And although that was a relief, it’s even more heartbreaking for Marlon as he knows his little girl is still out there and now without her bank card or purse. Plus the police think she could be a murderer.

Meanwhile, Henry, an old man who was waiting for treatment and had been talking to Jacob throughout the day, came to offer Jacob some comfort.

It didn’t help when Dr Todd went mad at Jacob for his actions. He was in serious trouble and had broken all sorts of protocals. His future now depends on whether Marlon and Rhona make a complaint against him. Marlon was forgiving of Jacob, but Rhona wanted answers and thought he’d acted irresponsibly.

Henry once again gave Jacob some advice and told him he was a natural and should keep believing in himself. But there was more upset for Jacob later in the day when he found Henry had died.

Distraught Jacob decided this just wasn’t for him and he couldn’t finish the shift. But Dr Todd gave him some much-needed praise and talked him round to come back inside.

Sarah rushed to hospital in Emmerdale tonight

Jacob got a visit from one of his uni mates, but they were interrupted by Charity bringing a very drunk Sarah in. She’d been drinking all afternoon and collapsed as soon as she got into the waiting room. Springing into action, Jacob listened for her pulse and got her in the recovery position.

Dr Todd came along and praised Jacob for his quick-thinking and good work. Sarah was in a bad way, but she regained consciousness. It turned out she had got drunk over feeling rubbish because Jacob keeps going cold on her. Charity tried to bouy her up, but she didn’t want to hear it.

It was up to Jacob to give her some tough love. He told her about the waiting times and the amount of patients needing help and told her to try and do something with her life. She was taken aback, but will it have an affect?

Emotions ran high for Moira in Emmerdale tonight

Moira arrived with Cain for her appointment and discovered what her treatment plan will look like – six weeks of radiotherapy, five days a week. It will be daunting and gruelling. She needed to be fitted for her mask today and will start treatment on January 14. She can’t work and must rest the whole time.

Moira was forced to go in for her mask fitting alone, leaving her emotional. It left us feeling uneasy too seeing what patients undergoing this type of treatment have to go through.

Outside the room, Cain was getting angry with the vending machine, taking his frustration out on it. He encountered Henry and they began to bond. They chatted about Zak, hospitals and illnesses and clearly found a rapport. But then Cain was called away to tend to Sarah.

Moira came out of her fitting, tearful and upset, and even more so when Cain wasn’t there waiting. There is a long road ahead, but we know Moira is strong enough to make it through – or at least we hope she is…

    Rhona found out about Laurel

As they were leaving the hospital after finding out it wasn’t April who had died, Marlon was resolute he was going out searching again. Rhona pleaded with him to rest and it caused a row. Marlon’s phone fell out. Rhona picked it up and saw a message from Laurel, thanking him for keeping quiet about them… Uh oh is all we can say to that one.

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Chilling flashforwards, Anthony’s discovery and Marlon’s fear

Emmerdale tonight saw five flashforwards mark the start of 2025 – and it doesn’t look good for all of the Dales residents. Meanwhile, Anthony found out a secret and Marlon continued to fear for April’s safety.

Here’s what happened in Emmerdale tonight, Thursday December 31.

Anthony certainly made his presence felt in Emmerdale tonight

Anthony pushed Ruby until she broke down (Credit: ITV)

    Ruby confessed the truth

Anthony and Cain had a ‘chat’ about yesterday’s altercation. Anthony then went to see Ruby and made even more snide comments about her and Cain. He questioned how long they had been sleeping together, but Ruby stormed off, leaving Anthony more sure than ever he was right.

Anthony persisted and persisted and so Ruby poured herself another drink. He pushed and pushed that Ruby was all over Cain and was still sleeping with him. Ruby cracked and confessed that she had slept with Cain once and it was a mistake. Anthony was gleeful at his discovery and Ruby broke down after he left, knowing she had really messed up.

Smashing a glass into the sink, Ruby was sobbing as she cleared up. She called Cain, who came round and she confessed Anthony knew everything. He was furious with Ruby’s stupidity.

    Anthony made two announcements

Ruby’s dad then decided to make a speech in the pub, leaving Cain and Ruby shaking with fear. It looked like he was about to reveal their affair, but actually he told everyone he was donating £5000 to the April search fund. Leaving the whole pub cheering and clapping him. He really has made himself at home.

Cain and Anthony then had another altercation outside the toilets, but Anthony once again made it clear he was not to be messed with and he held all the cards. He then announced he was moving into Mill Cottage with the family and Ruby knew she could not say anything. Despite her obvious discomfort, she reasoned he’d be dead soon so it didn’t matter. But she clearly isn’t going to cope with this at all.

Marlon blamed everyone in Emmerdale tonight

Furious Marlon quizzed Manpreet over prescribing April the contraceptive pill. She refused to tell him anything due to legal patient confidentiality. Marlon was blaming everyone around him and then turned his attention to Cathy, asking who April was sleeping with. But she spat back that the reason April could have been on the pill might not have been due to sex. She also reminded Marlon it was the anniversary of Heath’s death, making him feel terrible.

Rhona meanwhile, questioned Arthur, who knew nothing either.

Marlon went home to see Leo and discovered his son had found April’s missing poster. They had not told Leo what had happened, but Marlon was forced to confess. In a tearful scene, Marlon tried to explain to Leo what was going on. He promised to bring April home, but can he make good on that?

    Joe made enemies

At Home Farm, Joe was playing the doting step-grandson, looking after Kim. Dawn was still suspicious of him, but Joe told her he could trust him – ha!

At the graveyard they were picking Will’s plot when Caleb came across them. He and Joe met and worked out they were uncle and nephew. But there was already no love lost between them. And as Joe made derogatory remarks about the Dingles, half-brother Noah overheard and stormed off.

They relocated to the pub, but Kim did not join them. Dawn was grateful for everyone’s condolences, but Joe continued to make enemies of everybody, rowing with every Dingle he came across. Not doing the best job of proving to Dawn he’s a good guy, eh?!

Five flashforwards revealed the future in Emmerdale tonight

The village celebrated New Year in the pub as the countdown to midnight began. Charles gave a toast to those we’ve lost this year including Will, Ethan and Zak.

As they counted from 10, we saw several flashforwards to what the future holds for the residents of Emmerdale.

First up, Mack was running through the woods looking worried and clearly needing to get somewhere fast. Not a very interesting one to be honest, but suggests Mack will continue to be central to all storylines next year. Sigh.

Then we focused on Caleb lying on an operating table flatlining. Next up was Cain, dressed for a funeral and sobbing at someone’s graveside – Caleb’s? Or someone else’s?.

Fourthly, a body wrapped in a tarpaulin and chains was pushed by a mystery gloved hand into the water. And finally, perhaps most chillingly, an icy river with a hand bashing against the surface, trapped and desperate to get out.

What does all this mean? Who is dead, who will survive? It’s set to be a very dramatic New Year in Emmerdale and we can’t wait!

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Police found the contraceptive pill in April’s room, and Dawn accused Joe of killing Will

Marlon started to fear the worst as he took his frustrations out on the police in Emmerdale tonight as they found some worrying evidence.

Elsewhere, Dawn shared her suspicions over Joe with Kim – but, did he kill Will?

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight on Monday, December 30.

Police found contraceptive pills in April’s bedroom

Marlon was still feeling sick to his stomach tonight as he sat down with the police as the search for missing April continued.

He relived the argument he’d had with April the day before she went missing, also filling the police in on her finding out how Donna really died.

Police then asked if they could search April’s room, making a rather shocking discovery as they returned with contraceptive pills they’d found. Although, Marlon made things difficult by lashing out at them for not doing enough to bring his daughter home (a bit harsh!)

Marlon then started wondering if April had been secretly seeing a boy, worrying that they’d forced her to take the pills and leave her home.

Police then took April’s electronic devices, hoping that they’d find some sort of name that could help lead them to April.

The episode ended with Marlon looking all sad out of a window, as if April would just magically appear before his very eyes.

Dawn suspected the worst from Joe in Emmerdale tonight

Dawn’s a fast learner as she’s already figured out that trouble always follows Joe Tate. So, when he suddenly reappeared and turned up at Home Farm just moments before Will’s heart attack, she deciphered that it couldn’t have been a coincidence.

Speaking to Kim, Dawn asked her if she could help her with her dad’s funeral plans. Kim though suggested that Dawn should take some time to grieve first.

Dawn then shared her concerns that Joe might’ve had something to do with Will’s death, but Kim pointed out that Joe didn’t even know Will (covering her tracks and all that.)

Not buying it, Dawn then threatened that the truth would come out at the post mortem.

    Anthony was suspicious of Cain

Anthony didn’t get a good vibe from Cain today (but, maybe it was just that his green smoothie didn’t agree with him.) He even made his discomfort known to Charity, noting that Cain was rather rude to him.

Charity and Ruby both told Anthony that he shouldn’t be worried. That was just typical Cain (Anthony has A LOT to learn there.)

But, little did he know was that Ruby was actually trying to stop him from learning the truth about her moment of passion with her husband’s brother. Talk about messy.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight

Jacob arranged a date with Sarah but ended up leaving her sitting all alone in the pub whilst he headed out for lunch with his mum. Nice.

Leyla then tried to warn Jacob off dating so that he could focus on his final year of studies before becoming a doctor. But, when love’s at play, it’s never that easy to stay away…

  • What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Marlon confronted Jade and Ruby became suspicious of her father

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Marlon confronted Jade and Ruby became suspicious of her father

Emmerdale tonight saw a whole load of suspicion. Marlon Dingle suspected that Jade had taken April, while Ruby was suspicious of her own father’s involvement in April’s disappearance.

Meanwhile, Billy became suspicious of Joe Tate‘s involvement in Will Taylor’s death after learning about his bad boy past.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight (Friday, December 27.)

Emmerdale: Marlon and Ross searching for April

    Marlon confronted Jade

Bob organised a search party for April, but Marlon insisted it was all for nothing and that they wasting their time because he was sure Jade had her.

The police paid Ross a visit to enquire about Jade, but were satisfied that she wasn’t a suspect. Later, Marlon went to see Ross, where Ross delivered one of his classic lines: “What the hell did you tell the police? Don’t think that I won’t give you slap just because you’ve had a stroke.” Stay charming, Ross.

Marlon demanded that Ross take him to see Jade. Jade was not pleased to see Ross and told them to get out. Marlon, however refused to leave and picked up a pipe, before telling Jade: “I need you to tell me what you’ve done with my daughter.” Brave man, taking Jade on.

Fortunately, he was saved by the police, who arrived to arrest Jade for illegal fighting and betting. They said they’d had Jade under surveillance, meaning she couldn’t have taken April.

Marlon was at a loss, as he’d been so sure that he was right. Later, he lambasted Ross, saying this was all his fault for telling April the truth about Donna. “If anything happens to her, it’s on you,” he told Ross.

Joe Tate aroused suspicion in Emmerdale tonight

Following Will Taylor’s fatal heart attack, Joe covered for Kim, lying to the police that they’d been no delay in getting Will help. Tonight, Billy became suspicious of Joe and Kim’s new found closeness.

Joe Tate tried to talk to his half brother Noah Dingle in the village. But Noah was angry, telling Joe: “You let me think you were dead.”

Charity then told Joe that Noah wanted nothing to do with him, adding: “You’re a ruthless liar, who destroys innocent people to get what he wants.” Joe told her people change – “Case in point. A gold digger and petty criminal turned respectable business woman.” Way to try and make friends, Joe.

Billy witnessed the altercation and asked Charity what the deal with Joe was. She filled him in and Billy later relayed the information to Dawn.

He then shared his suspicions with Dawn. “Kim tried to kill him, that’s why he run off,” he said. “So why has she forgiven him just now? Something is off, like really off. Dawn, I have never seen your dad and Kim happier. Their vow renewal, beautiful. And he turns up and our whole world is turned upside down. Aren’t the police doing a post mortem?”

Billy then asked “What are the chances of him turning up just as your dad has a heart attack?” Dawn realised what Billy was getting at and said: “You think he murdered my dad?”

Ruby and Steph serious on Emmerdale

Ruby was suspicious of her dad

During a break from searching for April, Ruby and Steph grabbed some coffee from the cafe. While there, Steph mused: “What would make a teenage girl on Christmas morning run off before opening her presents?”

This caused Ruby to ask: “Do you know where your grandad was on Christmas morning before he came over for lunch?” Steph said he had been at the B&B. Unbeknown to them, Anthony had heard the exchange.

Later, Anthony gave Ruby a vailed threat, telling her: “We do need to be careful you know. When nasty rumours start, people are forced to defend themselves and other things come out, secrets that can ruin lives. And we don’t want that, do we?”

    Elsewhere in Emmerdale tonight

The villagers were mourning Will. Jimmy was devastated to hear about the death of his best friend. “How can my best mate be dead? We’re meant to be playing poker this week” Jimmy said, before recounting Will’s relationship advice – “never buy her flowers from the garage and always take all of the blame.”

Kim and Dawn were also struggling, but Joe was quick to take Kim to the side and tell her: “I saved you yesterday. You simply cannot afford to be showing any hint of guilt or regret. I need you to keep it together. It will all be fine. I will take care of everything. Trust me.” Trusting Joe Tate seems a mistake waiting to happen, but will Kim have any choice?

  • What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Marlon’s interference sent April livid, and mulled wine ruined Heath’s memorial

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Marlon’s interference sent April livid, and mulled wine ruined Heath’s memorial

Emmerdale tonight saw Marlon tell Ross to stay away from his daughter – but April found out and made her disgust towards him known.

And, it seemed that a bad atmosphere was felt by other villagers too, with Wendy and Brenda getting on the wrong side of a grieving Bob.

Here’s everything that went down in Emmerdale tonight (Monday, December 23).

Marlon told Ross to stay away in Emmerdale tonight

After finding out that April was trying to buy weed online, Marlon decided to take action (something needed to be done!)

With April rebelling after finding out the true circumstances around Donna’s death (sobs), Marlon saw Ross letting himself out of his house and had words.

Ross explained that everything had been above board because April had given him the keys to stay for the night. Perhaps he should’ve checked with an actual adult before taking an angry teenager for their word?

Marlon demanded the keys back (and rightfully so) before telling Ross that he must stay away from April. His reason being? He was basically threatened by feeling like he had to compete with Ross – a guy that April clearly idolises.

Later on, April went to find Ross and saw him sitting next to some packed bags. She then tried to open up to him about her current frustration towards her dad. But, Ross wasn’t in the understanding mood.

Actually listening to Marlon’s warning, Ross made out that he didn’t care about April. Upset, April stormed back home and then found out that Marlon had been the one to interfere with her and Ross’ friendship. It’s fair to say that this revelation didn’t go down well at all…

Bob, Cathy and Brenda at Heath's memorial in Emmerdale
Bob just wanted the day to go to plan (Credit: ITV)

    Heath’s memorial fell flat

With it coming up to the one year anniversary of Heath’s death, Bob wanted to distract himself whilst also paying tribute to his late son. What better way to do this than with a carol concert?! Even though Heath wasn’t really one for carols…

Bob tried his best, putting some red tinsel around the speakers in the village, making everything festive. But, some bickering between Wendy and Brenda put a pin in Bob’s plans.

Brenda wanted to make some mulled wine from scratch but Wendy was having none of that, opting for a shop bought version. Where’s that Christmas spirit, Wendy?

After the memorial had finished (had it really started though?, be honest), Brenda apologised to Bob and helped him choose a headstone for Heath’s grave. Bob couldn’t decide on which one would be best, but Brenda spotted a stone that was ‘very Heath.’ And, that was that.

Emmerdale's Vinny and Belle with Piper's casket
Piper wasn’t in the casket (Credit: ITV)

Belle finally realised Piper’s true fate

Viewers have known for quite some time that Piper the Dog is actually alive, and that her ‘death’ was all just another one of Tom’s lies. And, now, Belle and Vinny finally know the truth.

After admitting that Piper’s death was bugging her, Vinny and Belle bravely dug up her grave and opened her casket. Instead of a rotting animal corpse, inside lay a brick.

Belle then realised that Piper was never dead, wondering what really happened to the adorable pup. We smell a reunion on its way…

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

With Dawn having moved back into Home Farm, she was busy wrapping Christmas presents for the kids. Kim then asked Dawn if it was okay to spoil Lucas, Clemmie and Evan on the 25th. Dawn was more than happy with Kim’s offer.

And, Will and Kim continued to act all loved up amid all of the festivities. But, of course, Kim’s husband was still plotting away…

Elsewhere, Steph took Ross in after finding him feeling sorry for himself outside. Nothing like a spot of good will at Christmas. And, Jacob and Sarah flirted with each other at Heath’s memorial. Sweet.

  • Emmerdale review of the week: Tom’s banged up, John’s opening up, and Will needs to man up!

Emmerdale review of the week: Tom’s banged up, John’s opening up, and Will needs to man up!

Our Emmerdale review this week looked like being a tough one. After all, this week’s episodes had to follow the emotional upheaval of Ruby’s story last week.

But despite the bar being set very high, we reckon Emmerdale pulled it off, thanks to the drama of Tom King’s trial.

Here’s what we thought of this week in our Emmerdale review.

Emmerdale review: Things are finally getting better for Paddy (Credit: ITV)
Things are finally getting better for Paddy but it was nice to revisit his story (Credit: ITV)

Unlikely friendships in our Emmerdale review

There’s very little we like more in soap than unlikely friendships, so we really enjoyed Belle going to Paddy for advice when Tom tried to take his own life.

Paddy of course had his own struggle with suicidal thoughts and it was good to see the ongoing effects of that heart-wrenching story. And we loved how sweet he was with Belle, reassuring her and making sure she was all right.

    Emmerdale review: Tom’s trial

We’ve all been waiting for abuser Tom King to face justice for the ordeal he’s subjected poor Belle too. And the moment finally came this week when he was in the dock, charged with assault and coercive control.

The episode featuring the trial took an interesting approach. The focus wasn’t on Tom – instead it was on the jurors who had to decide his fate. It made for a fascinating episode as the jury members debated whether Tom was guilty.

However, we did feel the whole thing was just too quick. It’s only a matter of weeks since Tom’s arrest, the trial itself took up just one double episode, and Tom was sentenced and taken off to jail on the same day. A year-long story has been neatly wrapped up like a Christmas present. We couldn’t help feeling a bit cheated about it.

John Sugden's dog tag with the name Aidan Moore
John Sugden’s dog tag with the name Aidan Moore

The truth about Aidan Moore revealed! Or was it?

We still love moody John Sugden, and we really enjoyed his camping trip with Aaron this week. We liked the pair opening up to one another and the reveal that John was in love with Aidan – the man whose dog tag he’s kept.

Except, we can’t help thinking there’s more to this story. Is John telling the truth? We’re looking forward to learning more.

Amelia’s gone to Leicester with Esther

Amelia Spencer waved goodbye to the village this week. Her exit was a bit of a damp squib and also felt slightly rushed. She’s been a part of Emmerdale since she was a little girl and we’ll miss her.

Billy is lying to Dawn in Emmerdale
    Stop whining (credit: ITV)

    Dawn and Billy

The Dawn and Billy bickering rumbles on. Evan’s allowed home again, which we think is good news, though frankly at this stage we couldn’t care less. Will Clemmie and Lucas ever be allowed back to school? Where are Clemmie and Lucas, come to that?

Kim was emotional when Will proposed a vow renewal (Credit: ITV)
Come on, Will. Stand up for yourself. (Credit: ITV)

    Man up, Will!

Remember how Will used to be? Ex-con, protective dad, didn’t think twice about moving the body of a dead policeman, kept Kim on her toes… Now he’s wafting about Home Farm, marching to the beat of financial adviser Peter’s drum. If Peter says jump, Will asks how high. It’s very out of character.

We can’t believe we’re saying this, but this is what it’s come to. While the other men of Emmerdale – including Will’s son-in-law Billy, are dripping with toxic masculinity, we can’t help thinking Will could do with, well, manning up a bit!

It’s time to grow a pair, Mr Taylor. Tell Peter to sling his hook and take your chances with whoever’s calling the shots behind the scenes.

Speaking of which, our guesses about the identity of Mr I-Live-In-A-Different-Time-Zone Where Phones and Email Don’t Work is, are becoming increasingly outlandish. Is it Joe Tate? Jean Tate? Steve Marchant? Another long-lost child of Frank’s. Kim herself?! We just hope it’s not Caleb. Oh god, it’s Caleb isn’t it?

After the trial and Tom’s sentencing, Belle was still processing it all, but trying to focus on moving forward, but she had realised it was going to take time. Amelia came to see her and apologised again, but  Belle told her it was in the past and they had to both start the rest of their lives.

However, Belle was starting to piece more things together – including Tom being responsible for the attack on Vinny. As she also mourned Piper, it’s only a matter of time before she puts that together as well…

    Goodbye Amelia in Emmerdale tonight

    Daz returned

Elsewhere, Mandy was worried Tom wasn’t done yet and when she and Kerry spotted a man dressed all in black skulking around, they pounced thinking he had been sent by Tom to terrorise Amelia.

It turned out it was Daz Spencer who had returned for Amelia. She had called him for help – Amelia and Esther are moving to live with him in Leicester.

Kerry was distraught, Lydia and Sam upset to be losing Esther, but Amelia was adamant she needed to go. Today. Despite Kerry’s vehement opposition, Amelia knew it was the best thing for her, especially as she would be closer to Dan in prison.

Amelia has been planning this for a while, it seems, and Samson and Lydia, although sad, gave her their blessing to go. Kerry, however, did not and stormed out of the house.

Amelia left – with Kerry’s blessing

Kerry turned to Belle to ‘talk sense’ into Amelia and talk her out of going. But Belle wouldn’t help. She knows it’s Amelia’s decision and she couldn’t be forced to stay. Belle told Kerry not to try and control Amelia like Tom had.

Back at the house, Amy was throwing Amelia a small going away party. Belle arrived to offer her support, but Kerry still didn’t turn up.

Everyone gathered by the car to say goodbye to Amelia and Esther. Kerry ran over at the last minute and tearfully gave her blessing before Amelia left for the Dales for good.

Good news and bad in Emmerdale tonight

Billy and Dawn were celebrating Evan’s first birthday in hospital. Then they got the news Evan could come home for Christmas – and for good. And – get this – the news actually made them both smile. We know, it’s a Christmas miracle.

It was also the news they needed to kick Billy into touch. He admitted he’d been selfish and an idiot and he was sorry. Billy said he was putting his ego aside and moving into Home Farm with his family. Dawn was thrilled and they were reunited, but Will isn’t going to be pleased at all.

Sure enough, he wasn’t! As the family toasted their fresh start all together at Home Farm he clearly knew this was all going to end in tears. But will it be his or Kim’s?

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

Bob was planning a Christmas concert to honour Heath’s memory and invited the entire village.

Meanwhile, April was still sulking and stole money out of Marlon’s jacket pocket. She bunked off school and went to the cricket pavilion to down vodka again. Cathy caught up with her and tried to talk some sense into her. But April was more concerned with getting some weed.

Marlon was fuming when Bob and Cathy arrived to reveal April had bought Cathy vapes. Marlon was at the end of his tether, unsure what to do, especially when Bob told him she’d taken vodka from the B&B too. They were both so worried, but don’t know what to do.

  • What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Tom was found guilty as Belle finally got justice – but where was DS Foy?!

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Tom was found guilty as Belle finally got justice – but where was DS Foy?!

Emmerdale tonight once again aired a format-breaking episode as Tom King finally came to an end. And yes, justice was served: he has been sentenced to three years in prison.

The episode went back and forth between evidence being given in court and the jury deliberating their verdict. And once we had reached the conclusion, Tom was taken away and we heard the stories of real women who had been through what Belle had.

Here’s how Emmerdale played out on Thursday December 19.

Things didn’t look good for Belle in Emmerdale tonight

At the start of the episode, the jury arrived in their room and they were equally split – six for guilty, six for not guilty. So we flashed back to Tom and Belle giving evidence in court.

They each recounted their stories and obviously told a very different tale.  It was very clear in as the jury deliberated Tom had taken some of them in. Denise Welch’s character, Heidi, was not taken in though. She knew Tom was guilty. She just had to convince Karl, the Foreman of the Jury, of the fact.

Back in court, Belle’s past with Gemma was brought up and her mental health called into question. It made some members of the jury think Belle was not a reliable witness – exactly as Tom had planned.

The instances of abuse were recounted as the Dingles sat in the gallery fuming at what they were hearing. But the time Belle assaulted Tom was the only one that had been witnessed.

Credit to Tom, he was putting a sterling performance in court. If we hadn’t been watching all of these months, we might have believed him ourselves. Things were not going well for Belle.

Belle’s case worker Rachel gave testimony too, explaining her own suspicions about Tom’s abuse. However as she had no actual evidence back in the deliberation room, the jury were leaning towards Tom’s side of the tale.

Amelia took to the stand and had to admit Tom wasn’t ever violent to her.

In the jury’s discussion, Heidi continued to fight for Belle, against Karl, who was sure Tom was innocent.

    The tide turned against Tom

But soon enough, the tables began to turn against Tom as the tablet and his treatment of Carl Jnr was brought up. Then the prosecution went into detail about Tom’s filming and tracking of Belle and the small cameras he put everywhere, including in the bathroom. Plus the fact he hid it all from the police (by the way, where was DS Foy? A travesty he didn’t appear). Tom squirmed as he clearly didn’t have answers for the evidence in front of him.

And back with the jury, the cameras were a sticking point because even staunch Tom supporter Karl didn’t have an answer this time.

Juror Kenneth had stayed silent pretty much throughout, but then he piped up with a story about an abuser he knew, who had hid it well and was a respected medical professional. Kenneth said he saw the same look in Belle’s eyes as he had seen in the wife of the man he knew and he was firmly on Belle’s side.

This certainly got the jury thinking…

Tom was found guilty in Emmerdale tonight

As the Dingles waited outside the court for news, they were in a state of worry. But then they were called back into the court and Belle knew this was judgement day.

Karl the foreman stood up and announced they had found him guilty – on both counts. The Dingles cheered and shivers were sent down our spines.

Tom was then sentenced for his crimes with the judge telling him he has shown no remorse and doesn’t want to change. He has been sent to prison for three years.

As he shared a last, dark look with Belle, she sobbed tears of heartache, pain and relief. And it’s clear her ordeal is far from over – but it’s a start.

    Real stories in Emmerdale tonight

We then flashed back to where Belle had got to the day before. She had been to a support group for women who had suffered like her.

We heard their stories, which were those of real women. It had helped Belle realise none of what she had been through was her fault. It was the most moving part of the episode as we can only scratch the surface of what these people had suffered.

Belle then tearfully told Charity she knew Tom was in the wrong and the blame was all with him. But can she move forward with her life now?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Belle was terrified, Tom was smug and the Dingles in a panic as the court case began

Emmerdale tonight saw Belle Dingle disappear on the morning of Tom’s trial, giving him a strong chance of walking away Scott free. Tom was smug, the Dingles were terrified, but then Belle arrived. Was it too late?

Meanwhile, there was some lovey-dovey stuff between Aaron and John, but was it all real?

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Wednesday December 18.

    Belle disappeared in Emmerdale tonight

Very, very early in the morning, Belle wrote a note for her family and left the house. The Dingles realised she’d gone and were worried. Charity admitted she had managed to visit Tom and the family panicked even more. They split up to find Belle and get her to court.

Chas and Charity went to wait there, where Nicola, Jimmy and Amelia turned up. Everyone was freaking out that Tom was going to get away with it, especially when the prosecution said if Belle didn’t turn up it would be harder to get a conviction. Once again: Sigh.

Tom was waiting in court, suited and booted and smug when Ollie broke the news Belle hadn’t turned up. Tom was obviously thrilled – he decided if Belle didn’t take the stand he would ‘destroy her’ in court and he would get his life back.

Meanwhile, Belle was sitting on a bench alone, ignoring all the messages from her family. This might be based on real life, but it is incredibly frustrating.

As the court was called into session, Tom said this was his ‘moment to shine’ – we’ve never heard anyone so deluded!

At the very last moment, Belle arrived. She is ready to tell her story. Thank goodness for that.

Will’s plan was falling apart (and Billy was still an idiot)

Dawn and Billy were still at loggerheads over their living situation. Billy wants to provide for his family himself and is prepared to look a gift horse in the mouth to remain stubborn. They have 24 hours and three kids to house but Billy is convinced he can sort it. Like he has sorted literally nothing else in their lives.

Meanwhile, Will was arguing with Kim again that it was all too much and he didn’t want Dawn there. Kim was full of the joys of Christmas and brushed him off. Dawn arrived with her bags and boxes, but no Billy and Will immediately jumped on it and said Dawn shouldn’t be moving in without her husband. But Dawn wasn’t budging, she knew Home Farm was the best thing for her family.

Will decided to try Billy instead – and told him he was on his side. But Billy rebuffed his attempts to help, so Will turned to Jai instead – where he found out Kim had made him evict them. Will confronted Kim who desperately tried to make him see why she’d done it. But he accused her of keeping secrets from him.

Will whinged and moaned and complained, but Kim stood her ground and everything is going ahead as planned. He then contacted Peter, but Peter threatened his life and said he needed to stick to the plan because the mystery boss was not to be messed with.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

Aaron and John were packing up after their camping trip and had an in depth conversation about John’s Swiss Army Knife (not a euphemism). They later sat together and talked some more about Aidan and agreed they couldn’t live in the past.

John decided to throw Aidan’s dog tags away to ‘say goodbye’ and move forward. Aaron’s response was to tell John he’s in it ‘for the long run’ and then he finally swallowed his pride and told John he thought he was in love with him. John said it back and there was a touching moment between the guys. But is it real?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Tom convinced he’s a ‘free man’ and we honestly can’t bear to watch him much longer

In Emmerdale tonight Tom King realised his plot to walk free was working as Belle spiralled at the prospect of him taking his own life. He smugly told his solicitor he was ‘basically a free man’ as Belle questioned whether she could testify. Sigh.

Meanwhile, Aaron and John opened up some more and Billy is a complete idiot who is boring us to tears.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Tuesday December 17.

Belle spiralled after Tom’s stunt in Emmerdale tonight

Vinny and Charity were still on their anti-Tom bandwagon, with Charity firmly believing Tom has faked his suicide attempt. But Belle completely believes Tom really did try to take his own life. She feels sorry for him for goodness sakes. She was questioning whether she can stand up and face him in court because she can’t have his death on her conscience.

Belle went to see Paddy who tried to help Belle see this was not her fault. But he also told her he didn’t know whether Tom had meant it or not, he could not offer her the reassurance she needed.

Meanwhile, Charity got herself into Tom’s room and saw he was bright-eyed and bushy tailed. She knew she was right about him faking the whole thing.

Finally Charity got to say what she wanted to. Tom fought back, slimy and manipulative. But Charity told him he wasn’t a victim. However all her harsh words only made Tom realise Belle believed he had done it and she was spiralling. He was smug as Charity stormed out having made a massive mistake.

Tom was smarmy and joyful as he told Ollie he was going to stand trial and now that Belle is out of the equation he’s ‘basically a free man’.

More bad news came for Belle when the judge agreed her past with Gemma can be disclosed in court. Charity tried to tell her she had to testify, but Belle was still convinced his mental health crisis was real.

Seriously, she’s spent so long waiting for justice and now Emmerdale are sending her down this route. He is manipulating her again, and might win again. This storyline is getting exhausting.

John opened up to Aaron in Emmerdale tonight

On the camping trip, Aaron and John woke up full of love, but when Aaron found Aidan Moore’s dog tags, John clammed up and refused to answer the questions.

Aaron wouldn’t let it go though and wanted to know who Aidan is. John wasn’t too keen on opening up, just saying today would have been Aidan’s birthday. There is definitely more to this than meets the eye and it’s about time Emmerdale told us.

John did confess he and Aidan were more than friends and he was the first person he felt anything for. He seemed to open up about everything, but is he being completely honest here?

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

    Billy was an idiot

Billy and Dawn were having bangers and mash for tea tonight, but their excitement was dampened by bad news: Jai gave them a week’s notice on Holdgate. Dawn was grateful they had a back-up plan and could move back into Home Farm, but stubborn Billy refused to budge and won’t go. Get a grip, Billy.

Turned out he still hasn’t got one because before too long he had Jai in a head lock demanding a month’s rent back. Dawn told Billy they were moving back in with Kim and his pigheaded pride saw him tell his wife he wouldn’t be coming with her and his children.

There’s so many infuriating characters in Emmerdale at the moment, but right now Billy is very near the top of that list.

Brenda got the wrong end of the stick

Arriving with some leftovers for Pollard, Brenda heard him and Kerry shouting and moaning upstairs. Mortified, Brenda literally ran away from the house before confronting them later on. But they explained they were merely cleaning and Kerry had moved in as payment.
