Emmerdale fans praise ‘phenomenal’ performances as Ruby confronts Anthony and Chas works out the truth

After last night’s episode (January 16), fans have praised ‘phenomenal’ performances by Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby in Emmerdale.

In scenes that were hard to watch for many, Ruby bravely confronted her evil dad over the sexual abuse she faced as a child. And heartbreakingly revealed that she even tried to tell her mum.

Over the last few months Ruby has been living through hell, as her dad came back into her life. It was then revealed to viewers that Anthony sexually abused her when she was younger.

    Ruby in Emmerdale confronted Anthony

Since then, fans have been desperate for Anthony to get his comeuppance, with viewers claiming he may be the most evil character the show has ever had.

In eerie scenes, Anthony stood over his daughter while she was sleeping in the B&B. When Ruby horrifyingly woke up to him looming over her, she decided to confront her dad over what he did to her.

When Anthony tried to manipulate and gaslight her, Ruby stood her ground. And as Anthony told her she had no proof, Ruby gave him a huge shock.

She told him she had a DNA test that proves Steph is not Caleb’s daughter, and it would prove that he was. However, she also told him his disgusting secret is safe because she doesn’t want Steph to ever know the truth.

After the powerful scenes aired, fans immediately took to social media to praise Beth Cordingly’s performance as Ruby in Emmerdale.

Fans praise Beth Cordingly’s portrayal of Ruby

One fan wrote: “Beth Cordingly is a phenomenal talent. ITV are so lucky to have her as Ruby!”

Another praised: “Beth Cordingly is award-worthy on Emmerdale this week. May Ruby remain at the centre of the show forever.”

“Give Beth Cordingly all of the awards. This is a very dark, dark storyline, even for a soap. And she has been amazing,” a fan commented.

A viewer shared how this powerful storyline has changed their opinions on Ruby’s character.

They wrote: “I have to admit that I didn’t take to Ruby at all when she arrived in Emmerdale. But now she is one of my favourite characters. Beth Cordingly is playing the current storyline brilliantly!”

Emmerdale has just released a brand new trailer for next week’s episodes. And it seems the time is up for Anthony, as someone in the village murders him.

  • Lucy Pargeter deletes Instagram Story over new detail on ice stunt after fans freak out

Lucy Pargeter deletes Instagram Story over new detail on ice stunt after fans freak out

Emmerdale cast member Lucy Pargeter has given even more of an insight into the upcoming ice stunt in the lake. But then deleted some of her posts – as fans ‘worked out’ new key detail.

It was teased that there will be a huge ice stunt next month on the show as Emmerdale bosses announced a villager’s life will hang in the balance as a car crashes into an icy lake.

This ties up with the eerie flash-forward we saw at the start of the year – as a hand was banging on ice to get out.

Emmerdale cast member Lucy Pargeter teases ice stunt

After that clip, fans noticed the hand has a wedding ring, so many began theorising who was involved.

However, now Emmerdale cast member Lucy Pargeter, who plays the iconic Chas Dingle, has seemingly confirmed she is involved in the ice stunt. Along with a few other hidden details.

Taking to her Instagram story last night, Lucy shared a series of images from set, and they appeared to be filming the icy stunt scenes.

In her first photo, she took a selfie, with what appeared to be a limo behind her. And all around the vehicle was snow and ice.

It was captioned “Can’t wait for you all to watch.” along with the music of Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby hit playing.

However, once fans noticed that it was a limo, and not a car like had been announced, Lucy quickly deleted that one snap.

But, that wasn’t the only one she posted. Another picture showed someone laying on the ground wearing a production coat. She wrote: “2am fatigue and cold set in for someone.”

Then the final tease showed a monitor on set during filming of the stunt. And it appeared someone was walking away from the sinking limo…

Fans obviously went wild, as we have been in the dark about the details of the stunt. And now viewers can begin to theorise.

Fans go wild over new details

One wrote on social media: “Lucy is currently leaking all of Emmerdale’s upcoming drama on her Instagram story. What is going on?”

Another added: “Wonder what is going on? Looks like two different vehicles are involved!!”

A third penned: “And that’s me sent back to my theory board now that I see there may be two cars involved in the ice stunt.”

As for who was in the coat lying down on the ground. Two of the main theories so far are Caleb and Jacob.

One fan pointed out: “Could the person in a coat be Caleb? It looks like his sort of shoes.”

Another commented: “Those look like the shoes Jacob wore when he went drinking in the pub. I’m going to be watching every guy’s feet from now on.”

“A limo suggests a party! Hen do gone wrong? Is anyone due to get married?” a viewer asked.

As Lucy deleted the selfie, that leads us to believe she realised just how much she was giving away. And from what she kept up, the ice stunt looks set to be a truly explosive storyline.

There are a number of Emmerdale cast members reportedly set to leave. So could this be their exit? Or is there more than one person injured in the crash?

With this upcoming stunt, and Anthony’s murder next week, Emmerdale is staying on top form.

Emmerdale: Anthony murder suspect ‘ruled out’ after fans watch horrifying new trailer

Emmerdale has released a brand new trailer for next week’s episodes, and spoilers show things are about to get murderous for Anthony Fox.

Last night’s episode (January 16) saw Caleb finally realise the truth about who Steph’s father is. And things are not looking good for Anthony.

It seems a lot of people are out to get revenge on what the disgusting man did to Ruby when she was younger. And someone will succeed.

Emmerdale released a brand new trailer and it puts some of our favourite characters in centre stage. But fans think they can rule one character out.

Emmerdale release new trailer of Anthony Fox’s murder

Scenes in the spoiler clip shows Chas warn Nicola that Anthony should not be allowed to be alone with Angelica. Then not long after that Laurel and Nicola are standing over his bloody body.

But that’s not all. Cain is seen trying to give Ruby some advice. She’s heard pleading: “I just want to keep a lid on this.” To which the Dingle responds: “Then that’s what we will do.”

Other clips saw Aaron spot Anthony grab Ruby’s arm. But Caleb appears and orders his disgusting father-in-law into his car. Then we see him with a gun behind his back.

At the end of the Emmerdale spoiler trailer, Caleb and Cain are spotted sitting down looking quite guilty holding a gun. Then the camera pans to Anthony’s lifeless body.

But it was this final clip that made fans think Caleb and Cain aren’t actually guilty.

Caleb realises the truth in Emmerdale

Fans convinced Caleb isn’t the murderer

One wrote on social media: “Well, Caleb’s holding the gun so I don’t think it’s him that kills Ruby’s dad. I bet he fires it to scare him. I think it will be Steph who deals the fatal blow.”

Another agreed: “Caleb holding the gun has to be a red herring. Maybe Cain and him cover it up for someone.”

The trailer has been praised by fans, as it seems next week will be a huge week for the village.

One wrote: “Should be renamed Horrordale. And I’m so here for it.”

A second added: “This looks horrifyingly good! I can’t wait to watch!”

While the trailer shows a lot, we still just have to wait and see who actually is responsible for Anthony’s murder.

However, one thing is for sure, next week in Emmerdale is unmissable.

  • Caleb finally realises the truth about Anthony, but as Ruby vows to keep her secret, here’s what happens next

Caleb finally realises the truth about Anthony, but as Ruby vows to keep her secret, here’s what happens next

The truth is out in Emmerdale! Caleb – with a bit of help from Chas – has worked out the truth about Ruby’s ordeal at the hands of her evil dad, Anthony.

In this evening’s episode, Chas, drawing on her own son Aaron’s awful experience with his dad, put two and two together.

As Ruby’s teenage best friend Rob revealed she was always scared of her father, realisation dawned for Chas.

Though Caleb was a bit slower to work it all out, Chas listened to what Rob was saying about how Caleb was the only lad in Ruby’s life back when they were teenagers.

“Who was she really scared of?” Chas asked Caleb as the horrible truth fell into place. “I think Anthony was abusing Ruby, and I think he fathered Steph.”

Caleb makes an awful discovery in Emmerdale

Evil Anthony also knows that he’s Steph’s dad – Ruby told him in a confrontation at the B&B. But she swore that she wasn’t going to tell anyone – ever – because she doesn’t want Steph to find out.

But now Caleb and Chas know, it’s only a matter of time before the whole family – and probably the rest of the village – finds out, too.

    So what will happen next?

Anthony kept Caleb on his side

    Anthony’s murdered!

Well! We don’t have long to wait for Anthony to get his comeuppance because by the end of next week’s episodes, he’ll be dead!

    But who’s killed him?

As the week begins we see a flashforward showing a human tooth, knocked out and bloodied, on the floor of the depot. YUCK.

Back the present, Anthony’s slept on the sofa at Laurel’s. When Chas spots him tutoring Angelica, she’s concerned. She warns Nicola that he’s not safe to be around teenage girls.

Laurel whacks Anthony over the head

    The suspects line up

Nicola calls off the tutoring session and Anthony’s panic turns to anger as he worries that his secret’s out. Things get physical and he threatens Nicola – only for Laurel to dramatically whack him with a candlestick, leaving Anthony out cold!

Meanwhile, when Cain finds Chas upset in the backroom at the pub, he gets her to open up. But he’s shocked by what she tells him.

Aaron spots Anthony with Ruby, and realises how scared Ruby is of her dad – recognising his own experiences in her reactions.

And Caleb pulls up next to Anthony in his car and orders him to get in.

The next day, a shot rings out in the village, while Anthony’s nowhere to be seen. But it’s not until the following day when someone finds him dead.

Who is the killer? Could it really be Laurel? Or might it be someone closer to home?

  • Meena Jutla mention sends fans into a frenzy as they beg for her return to kill ‘half the cast’ – and Dawn is No.1 on the hit list

Meena Jutla mention sends fans into a frenzy as they beg for her return to kill ‘half the cast’ – and Dawn is No.1 on the hit list

Fans of Emmerdale were thrown into a frenzy today as the name of fan-favourite Meena Jutla was invoked during the episode, sparking hopes she’d return. Murderous Meena was one of the soap’s most popular villains in her time, killing Liam’s teenage daughter and holding her own sister hostage, among other iconic crimes.

Manpreet brought up her name again tonight – and fans are hoping she might return to, ahem, ‘take out’ a few other members of the cast.

This came as Wendy’s recent gossip continued to make headlines. After unwittingly sharing details of her unsavoury past, the journalist from the Hotten Courier had forced her to dish the dirt on Rhona and Ella too, while she was at it.

Wendy came clean tonight (Thursday, January 16), and told an appalled Liam how she’d leaked details of Ella’s past.

    Wendy comes clean

With the journalist blackmailing Wendy over her lack of appropriate nursing qualifications, she quickly found the situation spiralling out of her control.

“Never trust a journalist,” (charming) chided a disappointed Liam, as they attempted to dig her out of the hole.

As she came clean to Liam, Wendy was forced to tell Manpreet, Bob and Ella what she’d been up to. Wendy’s confession left Manpreet suitably disgusted. It was then that she brought up a certain blast from the past so that everyone would understand the gravity of the situation.

“See, I thought, after Meena, things couldn’t get any worse,” a disgusted Manpreet said, “but this could destroy us.”

Emmerdale fans demand the return of Meena Jutla

This stray line from Manpreet was all viewers needed to get back down the rabbit hole of Meena Jutla fandom – assembling a hit list in anticipation.

“The mere mention of Meena is making me want them to bring her back and take half this lot out!! Writers must know half of this is pure dross. Ruby’s story deserves better than this,” wrote one fan.

“Need Meena back to get rid of dawn and a few other annoying people,” said another.

“Meena, come back and kill off Dismal. I’m begging you,” said a third.

“Love a little Meena mention,” wrote another, more innocently.

Fans have long hoped for the return of Meena to Emmerdale. And, with Dawn currently infuriating fans by poisoning Kim Tate and betraying Billy by snogging Joe, viewers would love to see her return to her murderous ways. Sorry Dawn.

  • Wendy’s Emmerdale exit can’t come soon enough – 7 things we won’t miss about her

Wendy’s Emmerdale exit can’t come soon enough – 7 things we won’t miss about her

Wendy Posner’s upcoming exit is looming in Emmerdale. And without meaning to sound harsh – the truth is we really won’t miss her.

From the moment she arrived in the village, she’s got on our wick!

Admittedly, she didn’t cover herself in glory from the off, because she came to Emmerdale to track down Victoria.

Victoria had been raped by Wendy’s son, Lee, and Wendy was convinced she’d made it all up. So she came to Emmerdale to confront her. It took a while, but eventually Wendy admitted she believed Victoria.

But we don’t forgive and forget as easily as Ms Sugden clearly does. And we’re definitely pleased to see the back of Wendy.

Here are all the things we won’t miss about whining, fake nurse Wendy Posner.

She’s not a real nurse! (Credit: ITV)

Wendy and her fake nursing qualification in Emmerdale

Wendy trained as a nurse, that bit’s true. But when she went to prison she could no longer stay on the nursing register. So she lied about it and used her maiden name for her registration instead. She shouldn’t have been working, and worst of all, Dr Liam knew all about it and just agreed to go along with the lie.

Victoria took to mothering brilliantly, despite the circumstances behind her pregnancy (Credit: ITV)
Wendy wasn’t exactly supportive of Victoria at first (Credit: ITV)

    Her rapist/murderer sons

Not content with defending her rapist son Lee to his victim, Victoria, Wendy is also devoted to her other son Luke – the one she’s gone to live with. That’s Luke, who whacked his brother Lee over the head, contributing to his death, and who kept quiet about it when Robert Sugden was convicted of the crime. Wendy really isn’t winning in the proud mum competition, is she?!

    Wendy defends herself to Ella

    Her off-kilter moral judgement

With her criminal sons, and gun-toting ex-husband, her fondness for lying, and her sharp-tongue, you’d think Wendy wouldn’t be too quick to judge others. But you’d be wrong. She loved to take the moral high ground.

    Wendy and Liam

The memory of Wendy and her affair with Liam in Emmerdale

And if it’s morals we’re talking about, then there’s no better illustration of Wendy’s dubious code of ethics than her affair with Dr Liam Cavanagh. It was steamy and the pair couldn’t get enough of one another. It even involved way too much role play than we’re comfortable with. And it seemed to go on for months, and months. Years even. Or did it just feel that way?

We’re confident that with Wendy out of the village we can erase those memories. Please…

Brenda and Wendy argue at Christmas
Give it a rest, ladies (Credit: ITV)

    Her weird rivalry with Brenda

Lies aside, Wendy is an confident, grown-up woman, with lots of life experience, and well, a chequered past. Brenda has run her own business, lost her daughter, battled a brain tumour. You see where we’re going here? They’re both women who have lived a bit. And yet, they seemed to be feuding constantly, msotly about *checks notes* gravy.

    Baffling.

Wendy talks to the dastardly journalist

    Her hair slide

Yes, yes we know we shouldn’t comment on anyone’s appearance. But, Wendy’s hairstyles rotated between her little-girl ponytail, and her little-girl half-up with a 1980s hairslide. It was almost a relief when she donned a fascinator as part of her costume drama with Liam. Almost.

Wendy Posner and all her whinging in Emmerdale

Just about all Wendy’s problems were of her own making. But that didn’t stop her wanging on about them, did it? You know who’s really been through the wringer, Wendy? Belle. Chas. Ruby. Moira. Dr Liam. Or, you know, Bob, who’s lost not one, but two of his children. But Wendy out-whinged them all. We definitely won’t miss that!

Emmerdale’s Ruby defended over decision not to tell Caleb the truth about Anthony: ‘Stop victim shaming’

Fans of Emmerdale have leapt to the defense of Ruby Fox-Miligan following last night’s episode, which came as Caleb learned that Steph is not his daughter. Rooting around in Ruby’s handbag, he stumbled across the results of a DNA test – confirming Ruby’s worst fears.

Assuming that Ruby had cheated on him years ago, Caleb kicked off – and kicked her out too. Ruby was devastated to learn that Steph is Anthony’s daughter. Heartbroken as she was, Ruby said nothing, leaving many viewers confused.

To many, Ruby should have revealed the truth to Caleb – that her father raped her as a teenager. The reality, however, is not nearly so simple.

‘Stop victim shaming’ demand Emmerdale fans as Ruby stays silent

Writing on social media, a number of Emmerdale fans defended Ruby’s choice not to tell Caleb, highlighting the terrible position she had been put in.

“She doesn’t tell him because she is protecting Steph. Don’t be so quick to judge and stop victim blaming. Ruby is suffering so much but she wants to protect her daughter from this nightmare. My heart goes out to Ruby she is a great character,” wrote one fan on Instagram.

“Why didn’t she just tell him?” Sadly this isn’t something that is so easy to tell. Esp if she’s been told time and time again that she wouldn’t be believed etc. Hopefully he does find out the truth soon though. Bless her,” said another.

“It’s awful for Ruby. I was shouting at the tv for her to tell Caleb even tho it’s obviously not an easy thing to tell,” a third sympathised.

“People blaming her over something she had no control over and say in,” wrote a fourth.

Marlon to die from pneumonia, Emmerdale fans convinced

Fans of Emmerdale have become convinced that an increasingly poorly-looking Marlon Dingle will die from pneumonia. This comes as he fell ill during his frantic search for daughter April, developing a nasty cough.

In a week of ups and downs for Marlon, he learned that April is alive – and living rough on the streets of Leeds. He took off in hot pursuit, finding Ross there too. The pair made amends, but April remains elusive, her whereabouts unknown.

Marlon may not have found April, but he did pick something up from on the streets – a nasty bug.

Marlon taken ill amid April search

As he swapped notes with Bob and Laurel in The Woolpack last night (Wednesday, January 15), an unwell-looking Marlon began to exhibit a nasty cough.  As he coughed and spluttered all over the pub (seriously, cover your mouth) fans are convinced that he might have pneumonia.

This is particularly worrying, given the flash-forward the soap shared several weeks ago – one of which showed Cain Dingle weeping over a mystery grave.

Not that we’re convinced Cain would be particularly bothered at the prospect of Marlon going six feet under, but could it possibly be pneumonia-stricken Marlon in the ground?

Emmerdale fans convinced Marlon will die of pneumonia

Writing on X as these scenes aired, viewers shared their theories as to what’s up with Marlon. And the popular diagnosis was that of pneumonia for Marlon.

“Could it be Marlon in the grave? He could end up with pneumonia and end up dying from it. Just a theory,” predicted one fan, invoking one of the five flash-forwards.

“Marlon will end up with Pneumonia,” said another.

“All the shouting has given Marlon a bad cough now, pneumonia storyline coming soon for Marlon,” wrote a third.

“Was Marl’s pneumonia brought on by over-acting???” another joked, somewhat uncharitably.

Ruby DNA results branded ‘Too much’ by heartbroken fans

Heartbroken fans of Emmerdale have branded last night’s revelations a step too far – following confirmation of Ruby Fox-Miligan‘s worst fears, as DNA test results revealed that Anthony is indeed Steph’s biological father. Ruby was left reeling.

To make matters worse, it was Caleb who revealed the news, finding the results letter as he poked around in Ruby’s bag. She’d already decided not to open the letter, but the cat was out of the bag now.

And, assuming that she’d betrayed him, Caleb kicked her out, seemingly ending their marriage for good. Ruby was double-devastated, first as her worst fears came true, and then by the apparent collapse of her marriage.

Emmerdale fans slam ‘rank’ Ruby DNA results reveal

In the wake of last night’s bombshell (airing Wednesday, January 15), fans took to social media to share their thoughts. And many agreed that it was a simply too much.

“I’m really going to need there to be a ‘mix up’ with the test results, because this is rank. The story overall is good, but they could have told it without the whole mother/sister angle. Aside from shock value and drawing this out for months, what will it achieve? It’s just a big ick,” wrote one fan on Reddit.

“Bloody well said, a sick story, far too much for what is supposed to be light entertainment,” agreed another disgusted viewer.

“I can’t believe that the writers chose to make Anthony Steph’s biological father, instead of Caleb. Making them mother and daughter, as well as half-sisters, is just disgusting,” said a third.

“I hate it. I can cope with the story overall, but this just feels too much, and now we’re going to be stuck dragging it out for months,” another wrote.

Emmerdale confirms Steph’s father and it’s one twist too far – OPINION

Emmerdale fans discovered the truth about who Steph’s father is in tonight’s episode, as Caleb read Ruby’s DNA results.

Viewers know that Ruby was worried that Steph wasn’t Caleb’s daughter, and could in fact have been fathered by her own dad, Anthony. Because we also know that Anthony raped Steph when she was a teenager.

But surely, we all thought, surely Anthony being Steph’s dad would be a step too far?

    Unfortunately, though, we were wrong.

The news is out about Steph’s father

In tonight’s episode, Caleb read the words “Zero per cent chance of paternity” and our hearts sank.

Because frankly this hard-hitting, brutal storyline is grim enough, without adding this extra twist.

We were hoping that the very fact of Ruby getting a DNA test would be enough for the truth to come out. We had our fingers crossed that Steph would turn out to be Caleb’s daughter. And we thought he’d twig something was going on and Ruby would reveal the awful secret she’d been keeping.

But clearly that’s not happening. Now we know Steph’s dad is also her grandad and it’s so huge we’re struggling to get our heads round it.

    Grim storyline

Of course Emmerdale has explored sexual abuse before. Aaron Dingle was abused by his father, Gordon Livesey, when he was a child. Aaron recently opened up to his new boyfriend John Sugden about the lifelong scars Gordon’s abuse has left.

    It’s a dark subject, there’s no doubt.

    Dark enough, in fact.

Incest and abuse are bleak topics for a soap to cover. We have no doubt Emmerdale will handle this well. Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby, has already proved many times over that she has the acting chops to absolutely nail this story. The Emmerdale writers are experienced in covering tough ideas.

But could this be a case of just because you can, doesn’t mean you should?

    A twist too far?

Adding Steph into the mix of this story gives it a further twist. One that we think is a twist too far.

Ruby’s spent her life trying to protect her daughter, but of course these secrets never stay secret in soap, so it’s only a matter of time before Steph finds out the shocking truth about her biological dad.

And that has huge ramifications for her future. Plus there’s the mental trauma involved in Steph having to rewrite her whole family history and her relationship with her mother.

Ruby’s story and its inter-generational impact, has enough to it to be a six-part Sunday-night drama. We’re worried that with the speed and scope of Emmerdale – as with all soaps – this enormous, bleak, heartbeaking story won’t have the time and space to be properly explored.

We’re really invested in Ruby’s story, we want to see Anthony face justice (we’re not on board with the news that he will be murdered – but our feelings on that twist are for another time!) and we want the Fox-Miligan family to heal.

But we can’t help feeling Steph being Anthony’s daughter is a twist this already shocking storyline didn’t need.
