5 Signs Arthur Thomas is about to go off the rails

Ever since he got back from Australia there has been a change in Arthur Thomas in Emmerdale. He’s mean, moody and miserable.

So, is this just a typical teenage rebellion or are their signs this is about to turn into something much, much darker?

We have a sinking feeling it’s the latter and as he causes chaos with his lies about John on Friday October 4, his relationship with mum Laurel is going to hit breaking point. But just how far will things go? It looks like Arthur is about to go off the rails – here’s all the evidence.

    1. Arthur’s grown up a lot

It’s fair to say young Arthur has dealt with a lot in his life. Although he wouldn’t have known about it, he was swapped at birth, then given back to his rightful parents Laurel and Ashley after the other baby died. Laurel then struggled to bond with him.

He then lost his dad in heartbreaking circumstances when Ashley was diagnosed with early onset dementia. On top of that loss, he was manipulated by evil Emma Barton not long after his father’s death.

Arthur realised he was gay last year and after coming out to his family, tried to help his friend Marshall deal with his own sexuality. Marshall’s father was very religious and Marshall came to live with Laurel and co. It was a case of too much too soon for Arthur and Marshall and they called time on their relationship.

Arthur then went to Australia to see his grandad over the summer and has come back a completely different person. He’s trying to step up and be the man of the house following Jai and Laurel’s split and his mum’s heart attack, and he’s drinking, dating and boosting about his love life.

All typical teenage behaviour one might argue. But is it really? Or has everything Arthur’s been through forced him to grow up too quickly and now it’s going to come tumbling out in a bad way?

    2. Arthur is telling lies in Emmerdale

After setting his sights on John Sugden Arthur has been flirting and making everyone cringe with his attempts to seduce the grumpy paramedic. He has made out to April he left a string of broken hearts in Australia and is far more experienced than he clearly is.

And then he lies that he and John have slept together like it’s no big deal. Except that would be a really big deal. If it were true.

Laurel overhears the lies and all hell breaks loose when she believes them and confronts John. But will Arthur’s humiliation at his mum treating him like a kid spill over into something more?

    3. Emmerdale: Arthur has a temper

Spoiler pictures for next week show Arthur laying into mum Laurel screaming and shouting at her. And it’s not the first time we’ve seen a glimpse of his temper.

He has been giving Jai a very hard time over the divorce from Laurel – rightly so, perhaps, but being rude to him in the street and shutting down any attempts at a reconciliation seem very unlike Arthur to us. And all this pent up rage has to come out at some point…

    4. He’s got form

Let’s not forget that Arthur wasn’t always the sweet, studious boy we now know. When Archie first came to live with dad Jai and Laurel in 2019, Arthur didn’t take it well.

He felt pushed out and jealous of the attention Archie got, so started to viciously bully him. Things soon turned violent and he left bruises on Archie – but blamed Jimmy King!

When his grandad Sandy died, Arthur believed it was his fault and he was being punished for what he’d done to Archie. He confessed to his mum, who was furious, but kept it secret from Jai. However the truth came out when Archie was hurt and Arthur was blamed – although this time, he hadn’t actually done anything.

The bad behaviour culminated in a fire that almost killed his sister Dotty. Could history be about to repeat itself?

    5. It runs in the family

Arthur isn’t the only one with a history of violence in his family. In fact, his dad, Ashley used to abuse his elderly father Sandy. The revelation of the abuse was so bad it ended his first marriage to Laurel.

Is it a case of like father like son? In times of stress, will Arthur start to lash out like his dad did?

Nicola gets involved in Laurel and Arthur's problems in Emmerdale
Things are still tense next week (Credit: ITV)

So where is the Arthur storyline going in Emmerdale?

Next week, things are so bad between Laurel and Arthur Nicola has to step in. They are arguing constantly and the tension is palpable. Nicola manages to get Arthur to confess to his lies, and offers him comfort and advice.

But Laurel is hurt and furious that he has confided in Nicola and not her. She lets rip once again and things are right back to square one.

With tension at an all-time high and Arthur clearly on a destructive path, just how far could this go? Is this really a teenage rebellion? Or is Arthur going down the Tommy Moon route in EastEnders?

All the evidence suggests Arthur’s heading for something big as his behaviour worsens. Does Laurel just need to loosen the leash? Or is there more to this?

It’s just a hunch on our part for now and we really, really hope we’re wrong. Come on kind Arthur, come back to us!

  • Emmerdale fans ‘turn off’ as Moira forgets evidence that could help Belle: ‘This is turning into a farce now’

Emmerdale fans ‘turn off’ as Moira forgets evidence that could help Belle: ‘This is turning into a farce now’

Frustrated fans of Emmerdale found themselves infuriated by last night’s episode of the soap, in which Moira Dingle appeared to be on the verge of revealing damning evidence which could have proved Tom King’s evil once and for all.

This came as Moira discovered Tom’s tablet, loaded full of footage of an unsuspecting Belle. After finding Isaac with the tablet (having stolen it from little Carl), Moira had a nose about and soon discovered Tom’s secret files.

    Moira to the rescue… briefly

Realising that the footage was just what Belle needed to clear her name, Moira left a message on Belle’s phone, before heading out to find her.

Disaster struck when Moira found herself struggling to drive; having left her phone at home, she soon forgot why she’d gone out in the first place. Abandoning the car, she wandered off and suffered another terrible seizure.

When Mack found her, all was lost – and Moira didn’t remember anything from the preceding few hours, including the tablet and her message to Belle.

And, just like that, all the evidence was gone.

Emmerdale fans slam ‘farce’ as Moira forgets the evidence

As these scenes aired, fans took to social media to share their frustration.

“I was so angry last night watching this. After Moira, knowing what has happened to Belle, why did she not phone the police. Now he has his tablet back and smash it up. He is going to get away with everything and poor Belle will always be in fear. Even Jimmy is hiding evidence now. Yes I know this abuse goes on in homes all over the world but now it is getting silly the alarm bells are ringing. Why do the police not interview people in the village and talk to the mental health team to get Belle’s mental health records. She did give her social worker an insight of what is happening. Come on writers get back to the seriousness of the story,” wrote one fan on Instagram.

“Emmerdale highlighting such an important topic but turning it into a farce where nobody cares anymore,” said another on X.

“Sometimes I wish things in Soapland were just straightforward. For the love of God let Moira hand over the tablet, getting bored of the whole Tom/Belle situation. Just want to see Tom get his comeuppance now,” a third said.

“It’s getting on my nerves now, gone on for way to long,” bemoaned another.

Someone else said: “For the first time I am turning off.” Another agreed: “Me too. Domestic abuse story that should be done tastefully is turned into a farce.”

“I’ve turned it off,” said one more. “I knew the minute she had it that it would turn into a farce. It’s ridiculous and frustrating. Somebody let me know when this storyline is over.”

Was last night’s episode a step too far?

  • Emmerdale’s saddest animal deaths including Batley the dog and Minty the lamb

Emmerdale’s saddest animal deaths including Batley the dog and Minty the lamb

Emmerdale fans were left reeling back in August after it looked like Belle Dingle’s beloved dog Piper had been killed at the hands of her abusive husband Tom. Fortunately Piper is still alive and Tom had just tricked Belle into thinking she was dead.

In Emmerdale on Wednesday October 2, Moira was responsible for the death of all her son Isaac’s sheep.

Sadly, these aren’t the first animals to meet a sorry end in Emmerdale, though. We’ve rounded up the most heartbreaking (and shocking!) animal deaths over the years.

Aaron [Danny Miller] discovers Clyde injured,
Aaron was devastated when Clyde died (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock )

    Clyde – Aaron’s dog

Aaron Dingle – who was then known as Aaron Livesy – adopted Clyde in 2009 when he found him starving. Aaron did his best to train Clyde, who was volatile and even attacked Edna Birch’s dog, Tootsie. But eventually Clyde got in a fight with a bigger dog and lost a lot of blood. Paddy put Clyde down with heartbroken Aaron by his side.

    Daisy – Marlon’s dog

Marlon’s Dalmation Daisy originally belonged to his wife, Tricia. When Tricia died Marlon looked after the pooch though there was a hairy moment in 2012 when she was knocked over by Ashley Thomas.

That was nothing, though, compared to the shocking scenes in 2015 when alcoholic Laurel knocked over Daisy when she was drunk. Daisy died by the road, and Laurel tried to bury her to hide her involvement in the crime, only to be rumbled by Cain Dingle.

    Batley – Edna Birch’s dog

Grumpy Edna could never hide her irritation at her fellow Emmerdale residents, and her disapproval of the antics in the village was clear! But Edna had a soft side and she adored her little dog, Batley.

Batley was a real character – much like Piper – and the fans were shocked when he was kicked by Edna’s horrible granddaughter Eve Jenson. Just a few weeks later, everyone was devastated when Batley fell ill and was put down.

The fans were so upset by the whole thing that Batley’s sad demise even scooped him Best Exit at the British Soap Awards in 2002!

    Tip – Jai’s dog

Jai loved little rescue pooch Tip. But Tip met a sorry end when he was killed – accidentally – by Andrea Tate. Just like Laurel before her, Andrea tried to cover up the crime but was found out.

Dark Star – Kim Tate’s horse

Horse-lover Kim adored her beautiful horse Dark Star, but he was killed in 1993 when the plane crashed on Emmerdale  village – which was then called Beckindale.

    Smokey – Seth Armstrong’s dog

Seth’s beloved pet Smokey also met his fate on the night of the plane crash when burning rubble destroyed the Pollards’ house. Elizabeth Pollard had been looking after Smokey that evening, but had stormed out after a row with husband Eric. Poor Elizabeth was also killed that night.

Hamish – Belle Dingle’s Shetland pony

Belle thought the world of her little pony Hamish. He had to be put down when he got ill, with Belle sobbing by his side. Piper is buried next to Hamish, close to the Dingles’ cottage Wishing Well.

    Steve – Lydia’s cockatoo

Lydia’s cockatoo was fond of biting people and was known to be grumpy, but Lydia loved him. She was terribly upset in 2017 when he escaped through an open window and flew into some power lines, which killed him instantly. In fact, Lydia was so upset that she had Steve stuffed!

We’re not sure where he is now, which is probably for the best.

    Minty the lamb

Young Isaac Dingle was horrified when he did a farm visit with his mum and discovered the runt of the lambs would be killed. He managed to persuade dad Cain to let him have Minty as a pet. Isaac grew very attached to him and the whole village joined in to search for Minty when he went missing.

Sadly, Minty didn’t make it, as Moira had warned, he just wasn’t strong enough to survive. Isaac was sure his mum had killed his pet, but she insisted she hadn’t. Though given Moira’s behaviour now, we’re not so sure!

  • As Tom demands Belle comes to see him, fans left furious over story direction ‘the writers should be ashamed of themselves’

As Tom demands Belle comes to see him, fans left furious over story direction ‘the writers should be ashamed of themselves’

Fans of Emmerdale have been left feeling annoyed at the direction the soap has taken with the Tom and Belle storyline, with one viewer insisting the writers should be ‘ashamed of themselves’.

This year has seen the long running story of Belle Dingle’s abusive marriage to Tom King. Fans thought Belle was finally free of Tom, but recent events have brought them together again.

Emmerdale fans have described recent scenes as “ridiculous” and want to see an end to the “pantomime”.

What happened between Tom and Belle in Emmerdale?

Following months of coercive abuse, Belle finally ended her marriage to Tom earlier this year.

Sadly, this hasn’t been the end of the torture for Belle, as Tom continued to exert his power. One such time saw him give away Belle’s beloved dog Piper and pretend the dog had sadly passed away.

More recently, Tom has started a new relationship with Amelia Spencer. But he’s still hellbent on getting revenge on Belle.

Amelia, who believes Tom genuinely loves her – bless – arranged to meet Belle. But it was a set up and Belle found herself alone with Tom. The confrontation ended with Tom being left for dead with an axe in his back.

It was later revealed that Tom was alive. He had managed to remove the axe and walk out into the village.

In Monday’s episode (September 30), Tom woke up in hospital. Dumb Amelia and even dumber Jimmy kept pushing for Belle to be held accountable. But Tom pretended he couldn’t remember who attacked him.

Later, when alone, he pulled his mobile from beneath his bed and called Belle. He ordered her to visit him or else he’d tell everyone what she did.

Fans are not happy with this latest turn in events and think things are getting “ridiculous”.

    Emmerdale fans slam writers

One fan wrote on Instagram: “The writers should be ashamed of themselves. It was supposed to be helping victims of domestic violence, but it’s anything but that. The whole storyline has been a shambles, but now it’s gone beyond that.”

Others agreed, with a second fan writing on X: “This was such a good storyline! I don’t understand why you’ve turned it into some kind of farce.” A third viewer said: “You really have made a absolute dogs dinner of this, what started out as a serious issue has now descended into a ridiculous pantomime.”

Another fan added: “The way the writers have dealt with the Belle and Tom storyline is nothing short of a disgrace…”

Other fans are angry at the way Amelia and Jimmy are being portrayed, with some insisting that nobody can be that stupid. “Amelia sounds more and more insane than ever,” said one, while another said: “I know Jimmy’s never been a Mastermind champ but he’s not this thick surely?!”

Earlier this year, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw told Entertainment Daily and other media that the Belle and Tom storyline is “going to run until the end of this year”, so fans don’t have to suffer for too much longer.

  • Will Belle go to prison as Tom threatens to tell the police axe attack truth?

Will Belle go to prison as Tom threatens to tell the police axe attack truth?

In tonight’s episode of Emmerdale (Monday, September 30), Tom woke up in hospital after being attacked by Belle, leaving her worried that she’s facing a prison sentence for her actions.

In Emmerdale last week, Belle feared she’d killed Tom after she plunged an axe into his back leaving him laying lifeless on the ground.

However, it was later revealed that Tom was still alive. He is now conscious in hospital, but what does this mean for Belle?

Terrified Belle hides behind a wall (Credit: ITV)
Could Belle go to prison? (Credit: ITV)

    What happened in Emmerdale?

In Monday’s episode of Emmerdale (Monday, September 30), Tom’s uncle Jimmy and girlfriend Amelia were told by the doctor that Tom’s condition had improved and that his pain levels were under control.

While Amelia and Jimmy made their feelings clear – that they believed Belle was responsible for Tom’s injuries, Tom claimed to the police that he couldn’t remember what happened.

However, once he was alone, he called Belle. He ordered her to visit him in hospital and warned her that if she told anybody he’d tell everybody what she did to him.

Tom confronting Belle at the Dingle house
Tom won’t leave Belle alone (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale: Will Belle go to prison?

Upon hearing that Tom was out of danger, Belle told Sam, Lydia and Charity that she might as well hand herself in. Charity, however, was adamant that she would do no such thing.

The Dingles covered for Belle, with Charity giving Belle an alibi – they were out walking at the time of Tom’s attack.

It’s likely that Tom will go down the blackmail root due to his controlling nature. But if he does report Belle, provided the axe remains free of her prints, it’ll be her word against his.

There have been no reports that Belle or actress Eden Taylor-Draper are leaving Emmerdale. However, it’s likely that James Chase, who plays Tom, will leave at the end of the year.

This backs up what executive producer Laura Shaw previously told Entertainment Daily and other media. Addressing the length of the storyline, Laura confirmed: “It’s going to run until the end of this year.”

Given it’s hard for a character to get redemption after such a storyline, it makes sense that Tom will leave the Dales. So, whatever happens, Belle will soon be free of her abuser.

  • ‘Can’t they think of a better storyline for Laurel?’ sigh fans as they brand her ‘village bike’ after sleeping with Charles

‘Can’t they think of a better storyline for Laurel?’ sigh fans as they brand her ‘village bike’ after sleeping with Charles

Emmerdale last night was an horrific episode – and not just thanks to Belle and Tom, but also due to Laurel Thomas. The former vicar’s wife has turned her attention to another man of the cloth, sleeping with Charles Anderson.

This can only end one way: badly, and fans certainly agree. They are not impressed with the latest offering for long-standing character Laurel and want the soap to give her something better to do.

Charles Anderson and Laurel Thomas kiss in Emmerdale

Laurel and Charles sleep together in Emmerdale

Laurel has been throwing herself into planning the Harvest Festival to take her mind off her bitter divorce from Jai Sharma. She’s keen to get back involved with the church she’s had very little to do with since her husband Ashley died. That aside, she wants to modernise and help current vicar Charles keep the community coming to the services.

But Charles is a bit stuck in his ways and bows down to his mother, Claudette, and her very traditional views. So Laurel’s ideas of a disco, karaoke and feeding the hungry with veg from Liam’s allotment have gone down like a cup of cold sick.

Airing her annoyance to Manpreet, Charles overheard and wasn’t happy. But it did spear Laurel and Manpreet to become besties overnight. Something which has been severely tested now…

After Charles sacked her from the committee, Laurel went to give him a piece of her mind. But she ended up kissing him after giving him an earful! Then they headed to the bedroom.

When Manpreet came round to see Charles and tell him she wants him back, she was dismayed to see he was doing up his shirt and Laurel’s coat was there. She put two and two together and got four and she was right. Oops.

    Fans react

So Laurel’s feeling terrible for breaking girl code, she and Charles have agreed it won’t happen again, Manpreet’s not impressed, and no doubt Jai will be fuming when he finds out, and it’s all a big mess.

Those watching at home also agree it was not the smartest move – and have hit out at the soap for not giving Laurel something better to do.

“Laurel is the village’s answer to what has become a London fixture, bike for hire…” joked one. Others agreed: “Village bike,” and “Laurel the village bike,” they commented.

Someone else said: “Laurel – is that all they can do with her character? Local bike, so nearly everyone gets a go??”

“For a series with a predominantly female team behind the scenes you would think that one decent female character would exist in an entire village. What have they done to Laurel?” mused one more.

Another said: Randy old vicar! The thought of Charles and Laurel has proper give me the ick! Emmerdale writers are getting desperate now …. Purrleese!”

So, are they the next big thing? Or should they leave it there and never make us watch that again? We’re going with the latter.

  • As Tom is ‘axed’ by Belle, all the burning questions we have after last night’s jaw-dropping cliffhanger

As Tom is ‘axed’ by Belle, all the burning questions we have after last night’s jaw-dropping cliffhanger

Belle finally fought back against abusive Tom in Emmerdale last night – and boy did she fight back. Terrified and scared for her own life, Belle stabbed him in the back with an axe. But as he lies lifeless on the floor, the question is: will he survive?

In fact, we’ve got a few burning questions we need answering – but we fear it’ll be a while before we find out the answers…

Belle hid from Tom as he followed her (Credit: ITV)

What happened in Emmerdale last night?

Amelia tricked Belle into meeting her at the Dingles’ but then Tom turned up instead. After taunting her, then trying to manipulate her, he flipped, threw Belle to the floor and started beating her. She still stood up to him, though and took her chance when his back was turned. She grabbed Sam’s shotgun and escaped to a derelict building. Tom followed her and smashed in the door with an axe.

Belle then shot him, but she hadn’t taken the safety off the gun. He laughed and took it off her then held her at gun point, but as he turned round and admired himself in the mirror, she stabbed him in the back with the axe. Tom fell on to a disused mattress as Belle sobbed in shock at what she’d done.

All the questions about Belle and Tom we need answers to, Emmerdale

    1. Does Tom die in Emmerdale after Belle stabs him?

Well, it’s the most obvious one, really, isn’t it? Will he survive having an axe stabbed in his back?

There are several reasons we don’t think Tom will die. One is that fans will almost certainly want Tom to face justice. The soap knows people weren’t happy when rapist Craig was killed off last year, as it was seen as an easy way out and Lydia didn’t get justice. Viewers are determined that Belle should get justice in the proper way for all she’s been through.

Also, show boss Laura Shaw shared with Entertainment Daily! and other media back in June: “We said right from the beginning that we wanted to tell this story as truthfully and as authentically as we can.”

Addressing the length of the storyline, Laura confirmed: “It’s going to run until the end of this year.”

So for it to keep going, Tom must survive, right? Right?

Terrified Belle hides behind a wall (Credit: ITV)
    Justice for Belle (Credit: ITV)

    2. Is Belle leaving Emmerdale after Tom attack?

Belle was frightened and held hostage by her abuser, but one thing makes us worried for her: she stabbed Tom in the back. This might make a self-defence claim a bit tricky. But hopefully the cuts and bruises on her and his fingerprints on both the gun and the axe will help her case.

There is also the fact Tom has been rather convincing that Belle’s mental health is making her lie about his abuse. He has Amelia and Jimmy fooled (okay, not great examples), but once upon a time Charity, Cain and Lydia were all taken in by it. So will the police think so too?

Could Belle be looking at a stint inside for this? Will the storyline run with her inside until she can prove what really happened?

Emmerdale has not confirmed Belle will be leaving and as such a long-standing character, we can’t imagine she’ll be off any time soon. We need to see her recover and regain her strength and start to feel happy again.

Tom will be leaving at some point (Credit: ITV)

    3. Is James Chase leaving Emmerdale as Tom?

It was recently reported in The Sun that James will be leaving the soap as Tom King. Although Emmerdale hasn’t confirmed anything directly, it seems undeniable that he will be off.

James himself told Entertainment Daily!: “[Belle] needs justice for what happened to her and I think also the viewer needs that. From all the hell we’ve seen Belle get put through, we have to see her win in the end or at the very least, for him to lose.

“I think definitely at least prison, there needs to be at least that,” he added.

That sounds like James confirming his exit to us. But will it be now – or further down the line?

An ambulance is called to the village of Emmerdale

    4. What happens next?

Tonight in Emmerdale (Friday September 27) an ambulance arrives in the Dales. Presumably it’s for Tom, but can they save his life?

And who has called it? We know the Dingles are on their way to rescue Belle after Amelia let slip she was in danger, so will it be one of them?Or has Belle herself called for help from the emergency services? And will it lead to her arrest?

  • 5 reasons Tom mustn’t die after Belle finally snaps

5 reasons Tom mustn’t die after Belle finally snaps

Belle finally snapped in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, after a very tense stand-off between her and abusive husband, Tom.

Tom had locked Belle in Wishing Well Cottage and beaten her, leaving her hurt and scared. Despite her fear, Belle managed to get Sam’s shotgun and use it to force Tom to let her out.

She ran away and hid in a derelict building, but Tom was on her trail and he soon found her. In scenes that seemed straight out of a horror film, he climbed the stairs, dragging an axe behind him, then smashed his way into the room.

Tom smashes his way into the room with an axe terrifying Belle
Tom used the axe to break down the door and confront terrified Belle

    Confrontation!

Tom got the gun from Belle and for a moment it looked like he’d won. But as he was admiring his own reflection in a mirror, everything changed. “It’s sad that we’re not going to live happily ever after,” he said. And then he collapsed on to the mattress!

Belle had whacked him in the back with the axe!

It looks very much like Tom’s a goner but we’re really hoping he pulls through. Here’s why we hope the manipulative abuser survives:

Tom admires his reflection in a cracked mirror
Tom was looking at himself when Belle whacked him in the back

It’s too easy for Tom to die in Emmerdale

Remember when Lydia’s rapist, Craig, died? It was too easy, right? It felt like he’d escaped rather than having to face the reality of what he’d done. He’d essentially got away with it. It was unsatisfactory and feels a bit unfinished even a year on. We definitely don’t want to see the same thing happen with Belle and Tom’s story.

Hitting someone in the back with an axe isn’t the best decision

Tom needs to face justice in Emmerdale- he can’t die

Tom has done so many bad things and broken so many laws, that we want to see him face justice – properly. We want to see him answer for the things he’s put Belle through. And we want Jimmy and Amelia, and anyone else who’s suggested Belle could be making all this up, to listen.

    Belle’s not to blame

Yes, hitting someone in the back with an axe isn’t great. But Belle was pushed to her absolute limit. She was terrified for her own life and she did what she had to do.

But the law is the law, and if Tom dies, she’ll have to face justice herself. Plus, of course, Belle’s killed someone before, albeit accidentally. She’d definitely be hauled off by the police if Tom dies – but that just seems so very unfair!

Belle can’t cope with a trial

Belle has an inner strength – we saw that tonight – but she has been through so much. She is frail and she’s battered – physically and emotionally – and we don’t want to see her have to face more ‘abuse’ in the witness stand.

Belle really doesn’t deserve to go to prison

Poor Belle has been through enough torment this last year. AND she’s been to prison before. We want to see her rebuild her life and put this awful experience behind her. Sending her to jail just prolongs the agony.

  • As Laurel has a passionate encounter with Charles, all the bad romance choices she’s made!

As Laurel has a passionate encounter with Charles, all the bad romance choices she’s made!

Laurel and Charles had an unexpected and very passionate encounter in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale. One minute they were yelling at one another and the next, they were snogging the faces off each other.

Frankly, we’re not sure how we feel about this, erm, liaison. Charles just appears to be yet another bad decision on Laurel’s part. And she is no stranger to hooking up with the wrong blokes.

We’re not sure where Laurel and Charles is going but in the meantime, here’s our round up of Laurel’s dreadful taste in men!

Marlon comforts Laurel after the funeral of her mother, Hilary. They embrace before taking things further.

    Bad timing with Marlon Dingle

This is a bit unfair, really, because other than an emotional kiss with dying ex-wife Donna, Marlon really didn’t do anything wrong. But he was definitely the wrong man for Laurel at the wrong time.

When they first fell for each other, she was still married to Ashley and she and Marlon agreed to put their feelings aside.

But after they split, she and Marlon got together and planned their wedding. Once they’d tied the knot though, having dealt with Laurel’s carjacking, and the death of Donna, Laurel began descending into alcoholism. Her behaviour led to the break-up of their marriage.

    A stranger in a bar

When Laurel was at the lowest point of her addiction, she went off drinking in a bar, and flirted with a stranger in order to get him to buy her booze. She ended up spending the night with him, and it was after that she realised she needed help to kick her drinking habit. So in some ways, he did her a favour!

    Making mistakes with Bob Hope

We’d have expected it from serial cheat Bob, but everyone was surprised when Laurel succumbed to his charms back in 2018, when he was with Brenda. Laurel was still grieving the loss of Ashley, and turned to his best friend for comfort – blowing apart his family and hurting her own in the process.

Bob and Laurel never really had any proper chemistry. They quickly realised their romance was a mistake, though too late to spare any hurt or save Bob’s marriage, and it was no surprise when they split.

    Marriage to Jai Sharma

They were quite sweet at first, were Jai and Laurel. Two former addicts, both single parents, both with (a lot!) of baggage. They muddled through tough times including terminating Laurel’s unplanned pregnancy, and seemed to be making a success of their blended family.

But then Jai’s lies, schemes and deceptions caught up with him. Of course, Laurel had already forgiven him for his financial fibs but lying about what happened to Amit, and scamming cousin Suni out of his share in the Hide was a step too far. Enough was enough – Laurel called it quits and Jai is FUMING.

Laurel and Charles Anderson in Emmerdale

She may have a thing for vicars but we’re pretty sure Charles is not the one for Laurel.  We can’t see Laurel and Charles making a go of things. After all, he’s fickle, opinionated, and the only woman he really pays attention to is his mum, Claudette.

We’re very much hoping their afternoon delight was just a rebound thing and not the beginning of yet another doomed romance for Laurel!

  • Amelia Spencer – Mean girl or brainwashed victim?

Amelia Spencer – Mean girl or brainwashed victim?

Amelia Spencer in Emmerdale has been getting on fans’ nerves lately as she has fallen hook, line and sinker for Tom King‘s lies. As she fails to spot the multiple red flags around her new boyfriend, Amelia is fast becoming public enemy number two (behind Tom, of course).

But is she really to blame? She’s young, a single mum with no real family around and very impressionable. Tom’s picked an easy target, that’s for sure. So is Amelia really a mean girl or is she simply a victim too?

Who is Amelia Spencer in Emmerdale?

Amelia arrived in Emmerdale as a child in 2011. She grew up thinking Dan Spencer was her biological father and divided her time between Dan and his partner Kerry, and her mum Ali and her partner Ruby.

Amelia competed in beauty pageants, proving to be quite the little diva at a young age. But she also devoted herself to God, becoming a passionate Christian.

In 2015, Amelia’s world turned upside down when Ruby died in a helicopter crash. In 2018, Amelia learned that her mum had sadly passed away too.

It then turned out Dan’s brother Daz was actually Amelia’s biological father. Amelia went missing and was living with a girl called Beth who had made friends with her in an online chatroom. Beth had manipulated Amelia into not returning home, telling her her family didn’t care about her.

In 2022, a fifteen year old Amelia got drunk at a party and ended up sleeping with Samson Dingle. She fell pregnant with his baby and gave birth to Esther in October that year. By this time she was dating stalker Noah Dingle, who had just been released from prison.

When Amelia began posting beauty tutorials online, she got herself a stalker called Lloyd. Dan acted and punched the man to ground, a moment that would end up killing Lloyd. Dan was then sent to prison for manslaughter, with a sentence of eight years.

    Amelia and Tom

Amelia broke up with Noah last month after discovering he had called the police on Samson. Suddenly she was in Samson’s corner even after he had wanted nothing to do with her or their baby. Noah was sent on his way and Amelia wasted no time getting together with newly single Tom King.

Tom’s wife Belle had finally left him after what viewers know to be months of physical and mental abuse. But Amelia has been totally taken in by Tom, believing Belle’s mental health is causing her to make up lies about her ex.

Everyone in Emmerdale seems to believe Belle, however. Tom has been suspended from the vets and has fled the village, going into hiding. Only Amelia knows where he is and they are having secret meetings to pledge their love.

His mask slipped momentarily last night (Wednesday September 26) when he snapped at Amelia, but she soon forgave him and melted into his arms. She has said some awful things about Belle, promised to help Tom clear his name in whatever way he can and has even launched an attack on Chas who took her in when she had nowhere to live and nothing to give Esther.

Amelia is coming across as nasty and vicious. But is she a victim here too?

Amelia in Emmerdale is a mean girl

Things haven’t been easy for Amelia. She’s got no family around her, other than Kerry and Amy, and is really the perfect target for Tom to reel in and isolate. But viewers don’t all see it like that and many think she is just plain nasty.

“The way Amelia talks about Belle because of her mental health issues is disgusting. I understand that Tom has manipulated her into believing that she’s lying, but to talk about her mental health that way is nasty,” shared one on social media.

Another added: “Amelia is a right nasty and very ungrateful wee [Bleep] that needs taken down a peg or three or maybe five.”

“Amelia needs to snap out of it, nasty cow can’t wait for her to grovel to Belle,” raged one more.

Someone else said: “Amelia has always been this way about every single thing. She’s always been moody and crabby. She’d use people when she wanted something from them then dropped em.”

    Or is she a victim?

However, others can see she has been “brainwashed” by abuser Tom.

“Amelia has been totally brainwashed by Tom. The only way for her to turn against him is if she saw physical evidence of his abuse towards Belle or she sees his dark side for the first time,” said one.

Another, writing on Reddit, said: “I feel sorry for her. She’s annoying, nasty and SO self righteous, but there’s a reason Tom targeted her. She’s literally just turned 18, her dad is in prison, her mum is dead. And I think people tend to forget that Noah had just got out of prison for being a little weirdo when they started dating. Doesn’t excuse her behaviour, but Tom chose her because he knew she could be easily manipulated. She’s a victim in this too, she’s just not a perfect victim and people don’t like that.”

Other people on the site were quick to agree with the reasoning.

So what do we think? Is Amelia just plain nasty? Or is she an innocent victim in all of this too? Let’s not forget Tom is the true villain here, so perhaps the witch hunt should be focused on him?
