  • John Sugden: Another bad boy with a secret leaves viewers cold: ‘Why couldn’t he just be normal?’

John Sugden: Another bad boy with a secret leaves viewers cold: ‘Why couldn’t he just be normal?’

We’ve established two things about John Sugden since his arrival in Emmerdale: he’s moody and he doesn’t like other people. Is that really what the village needed, though?

Recently we’ve lost several ‘nice’ men. Ethan Anderson, good guy lawyer, who sometimes made mistakes, Nicky Miligan: family troubles forced him into doing bad things, but on the whole, a good guy and Suni Sharma – happy-go-lucky good guy.

So why has Emmerdale replaced them with another brooding bad lad? We already have Aaron filling that role – and clearly this village ain’t big enough for the both of them!

    John Sugden arrives in Emmerdale

Let’s take a look at everything John’s done since he arrived in the Dales…

John and Aaron kiss against John's van
Aaron got jiggy, then got robbed! (Credit: ITV)

    1. ‘Robbed’ Aaron

Okay, so he didn’t officially rob him, but he slept with him in his van on the side of the road, then drove off with all his stuff – keys, wallet and don’t forget that beloved hoodie. Aaron’s crime? Meeting someone on a dating app, being taken in by his torso, not finding out his name and sleeping with him within seconds of meeting. Didn’t really deserve to be robbed, did he?

    2. Been stroppy with Victoria and Sarah

You know, Victoria Sugden can be a tad annoying. She’s nice and all, but we can totally see how her OTT reaction to finding out she had a secret half-brother was somewhat unnerving. She’s a bit like an excited puppy – clearly John does not like puppies either. But he could have given her something. And his adopted niece Sarah, he was awful to her. A smile or a thank you every now and then wouldn’t go a miss.

    3. Attacked Aaron and Mack

Aaron was quite annoyed to have had his stuff taken and when he found out John was a secret Sugden, he thought the whole thing had been a set-up. Determined to get to the truth, Aaron confronted him with the only tactics he knows how: his fists. But ex-army man John got the upper hand. And, when they had another aggressive confrontation, John won again. He even got the better of Mack. And then threatened them both when they plunged his van into a lake. And we don’t think Aaron and Mack have any idea just how much he’s capable of yet…

    4. John doesn’t like cake

What sort of person does not like cake?! Well, John Sugden apparently, who told Nicola in no uncertain terms he doesn’t like cake and he doesn’t need smiles or friendliness from the locals. Can you trust anyone who doesn’t like cake?! We’re not so sure…

Emmerdale fans not here for villain John Sugden

It’s fair to say making friends is not John’s strong point. But then that runs in the family given both dad Jack and half-brother Robert were also sullen so and sos. But fans aren’t loving there being yet another miserable and brooding man in town.

“Please not another wannabe villain. I can’t cope with all the bad people in the storylines it’s getting absolutely way out of hand!!!” sighed one on social media.

A second raged: “Can we have new characters that don’t have any issues or hidden agendas etc please. Love the lighthearted storylines it gives us all an escape from this tough world!! Emmerdale tell your writers to change tactics please and have more giggles and happy people!! So much nicer to watch rather than having to record and fast forward most of an episode!!”

“Why couldn’t John come in and just be normal instead of most of the new characters coming in with issues,” added one more.

A fourth wrote: “Great….another angry young man, angrier than angry Aaron in the village, ugh.”

“The writers are getting ridiculous with all these angry men storylines. They brought Aaron back angry at the world and now instead of John meeting Victoria at the funeral and finding out they are related and have them get aquatinted they bring him back angry with a bad attitude,” said a fifth.

Aaron and Mack ‘the new Paddy and Marlon’ fans insist as they go wild over ‘chemistry’

Emmerdale newcomer John Sugden has not made many (ahem, any) friends since arriving in town, but he’s certainly made enemies – including Aaron Dingle and Mack Boyd.

Last night Aaron and Mack decided to take their revenge on John who’s been particularly unpleasant to them since sleeping with Aaron and driving off with his stuff. So they stole his van, left the handbrake off and let it roll into a lake.

They found their prank hilarious and fans did too. In fact they are loving Aaron and Mack scenes and want more of them.

Aaron and Mack team up in Emmerdale

John has made it perfectly clear he wants to leave Emmerdale as soon as he can – as soon as his van’s fixed, that is. Last week he had several threatening incidents with Aaron where John got the upper hand and punched him.

So Aaron and Mack decided to teach John a lesson. John soon found his van missing and immediately knew who had taken it. Of course, he was right when he confronted Aaron and Mack and they took him to where they had left it.

Unfortunately, Mack had left the handbrake off accidentally and it had rolled into the lake. The boys found this hilarious and taunted John, who was even angrier and even more miserable and tried to get violent again.

Aaron was still laughing about it later when John cornered him in the pub. As John got Aaron all hot under the collar, he moved in for a kiss, only for John to pull away and laugh at him.

Looks like this feud has a long way to go yet.

    Fans love Aaron and Mack

However aside from John Sugden, viewers are here for this Aaron and Mack pairing. When Mack first arrived it was clear the men had chemistry, but show bosses decided to take Mack in the direction of Charity instead. Aaron then left.

But now they’re back as partners in crime and their bromance is just what we need.

“We need more of the bromance and the banter from these two!!! Too much doom and gloom this is a welcome addition,” shared one fan on social media.

Another added: “Absolutely love Aaron and Mackenzie’s friendship.”

“At last a pairing that we are going to absolutely love. The devilment between these two is fab,” enthused a third.

A fourth said: “They are such a good shout. Funny, good actors, great chemistry. More buddies scenes needed.”

“Those two are hilarious. Mack and Aaron are great, the new Paddy and Marlon,” agreed a fifth.

The new Paddy and Marlon? Would we go that far? Well, we certainly hope these scenes keep coming as the light relief is a welcome change from all the plotting and murders and illnesses in Emmerdale.

  • What’s wrong with Moira Dingle? 5 theories on why she’s acting so strangely from menopause to a brain tumour

What’s wrong with Moira Dingle? 5 theories on why she’s acting so strangely from menopause to a brain tumour

Moira Dingle has been acting very strangely lately. She’s aggressive, saying some awful things to her family – especially husband Cain, she threw a glass at the wall, fell asleep during the day and strangest of all, she doesn’t seem to remember any of these incidents properly.

    So what’s going on?!

Well, it won’t surprise you to know that the Emmerdale fans have been busy coming up with some ideas about what’s up with Moira Dingle.

And we reckon they’re all pretty plausible.

Here’s our round-up of the best theories about what’s up with Moira.

Moira looks annoyed as she lashes out in Emmerdale tonight
Could Moira be developing dementia? (Credit: ITV)

    1. Dementia

Moira’s forgetfulness could be symptoms of dementia, some fans believe. It’s definitely up there among the theories with legs, but let’s not forget Emmerdale have done a high-profile dementia storyline before. Ashley Thomas’s struggle with vascular dementia was less than ten years ago. Would they really repeat a similar storyline so soon?

Moira confronts the Dingles over Samson’s travel plans
Is Moira’s aggression a symptom of menopause? (Credit: ITV)

    2. Menopause

Since Davina McCall tackled the topic, it seems everyone’s talking about menopause. Emmerdale has already taken on one female hormones story with teenage Cathy Hope’s Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. And Bernice’s menopause was also covered in recent years. But it’s definitely something to think about.

We can’t help thinking though that Moira’s symptoms are so extreme that instead of raising awareness about the menopause, such a storyline could end up terrifying every woman over a certain age!

    3. Brain tumour

Tragic Lola Pearce lost her life to an aggressive brain tumour in EastEnders last year earning praise from viewers for the performances the actors involved gave. Could Emmerdale bosses be hoping for a similarly successful story if Moira is seriously ill?

“She had a very dazed look about her on Thursday’s episode,” one concerned fan pointed out. And they added: “Her mood is very erratic.”

Moira looks incredulous as she takes a sip of coffee in Emmerdale

    4. Is too much booze what’s wrong with Moira in Emmerdale?

Moira’s been hitting the bottle hard recently, leading some viewers to be convinced she’s got a drinking problem.

“The way she’s been knocking back the scotch lately I’d say it’s obvious,” said one confident fan.

But could Moira’s drinking be a symptom rather than a cause? Is she on the booze as a way of coping with something else?

    5. Is Adam returning?

This is a bit of a cheat as it’s not a reason for Moira’s odd behaviour, but it could be a silver lining to Moira’s cloud! Could her struggle with whatever she’s battling bring her son back to the village? Let’s hope so!

Though, Adam returning could see Moira banged up for killing Emma Barton, so perhaps it wouldn’t be a good thing for him to come back after all!

What do you think is wrong with Moira? Let us know your theories!

  • John Sugden is here for revenge on Robert insist fans as they’re convinced they’ve worked out his true motive

John Sugden is here for revenge on Robert insist fans as they’re convinced they’ve worked out his true motive

Emmerdale fans have been treated to the arrival of John Sugden this week and after a pretty busy first few episodes they think they already have his card marked.

Sure his arrival and hook-up with Aaron was not a coincidence, one has now suggested this is all to do with Aaron’s ex, and John’s half-brother, Robert.

So how does it all work?

    John Sugden arrives in Emmerdale

On Wednesday night (August 7) Aaron had a date at a hotel, but was flagged down on his way by a breakdown. It was John Sugden, but Aaron didn’t know him – nor did he know John was actually his date. Aaron had never seen his face and didn’t know his name either.

As Aaron fixed his van, it wasn’t long before the pair started kissing. Then they fell into the back and did the deed. Afterwards Aaron wanted an immediate repeat performance, but while he went for a wee in a bush John drove off – with Aaron’s keys, wallet and hoodie in the back of his van!

Then on Thursday August 8 Victoria kindly drove Pollard to a funeral. They were chatting to the son of the deceased and he introduced himself as John Sugden. Vic looked shocked and Pollard confirmed he could well be her half-brother.

When Vic introduced herself to John, he said he knew Jack was his dad and made it clear he wanted nothing to do with the Sugdens. He left and Victoria was totally baffled.

John later broke down again and Mack was called to tow him back to Emmerdale – where Aaron was waiting. Turned out John hadn’t officially robbed him, he’d just driven off without giving his things back.

Victoria was thrilled to see him again. She immediately revealed Aaron was Robert’s ex-husband and took her new sibling to her place for the night.

But, Aaron was convinced John was up to something. “You’re not telling me this happened by chance?” he questioned. And he got a punch in the stomach for his trouble.

What is John up to in Emmerdale?

Well, fans agree with Aaron, something is going on. In an exchange about the character on social media, several viewers started to discuss exactly what.

“Awkward, more to this John character than he is letting on. Mmm seems coincidence that a secret Sugden suddenly springs up. Something about him, can’t figure out yet,”mused one.

A second replied: “I have a theory that he’s actually been to prison and knew Robert. Robert shared his entire life story to John and Robert somehow [bleeped] John off and now he’s going to go after everyone Robert loves as revenge.”

Someone else agreed: “I was thinking the exact same thing, maybe Robert’s revenge?”

“My thinking is that John is going to take out his revenge on Robert by hurting the people Robert loves. Aaron and Victoria. But the only way this story could work is if they intend to bring Robert back at some point. So maybe recast the role if Ryan Hawley doesn’t want to return?!?!? With that said, I’m probably way off, but it would be a cool storyline if that’s the direction,” said one more.

    Is Robert returning to Emmerdale?

There are no current plans to bring Robert Sugden back to the Dales. He’s currently serving 14 years in prison for killing Victoria’s rapist. Meanwhile, actor Ryan Hawley is starring in Casualty right now.

Danny Miller, who plays Aaron, has previously said he was trying to persuade Ryan to return.

He told Inside Soap: “Every day I still get messages from people saying, ‘Bring back Robron!’

“I’d love to work with Ryan again but it’s just a case of whether I can talk him round…”

  • What on earth is a financial dominatrix and how will it help Mandy with her money troubles?

What on earth is a financial dominatrix and how will it help Mandy with her money troubles?

Emmerdale bride-to-be Mandy Dingle is secretly working as an online financial dominatrix in a desperate bid to raise money. It’s a risky move, but one which Mandy hopes will solve her financial woes.

This summer should be the happiest of Mandy’s life. She’s about to marry fiancé Paddy in a lavish wedding, and has promised him an exotic honeymoon. However, she’s also failed to mention she’s up to her neck in debt.

Months of slow business at PampaManda have left Mandy firmly in the red. She has maxed out several credit cards and got people on her case.

Mandy tried various ways to make the cash back – including defrauding her own friends. But none of that has worked – quelle surprise!

Mandy’s latest money-making scheme has seen her transform into financial dominatrix, Miss Diamante Dales. Concealing her identity with a blue masquerade mask, Mandy has been using her charms to entice online admirers.

There is also a financial benefit to the flirting, and Mandy hopes to raise enough to settle her debts so that Paddy will be none the wiser.

But what actually is financial domination, also known as findom? Is Mandy’s saucy side hustle actually going to pay off? And can she make a decent living out of it? We have all the answers here.

Mandy and Tracy have a heart to heart in PampaManda

    What is financial domination?

Financial domination is a fetish lifestyle of dominance and submission. It’s whereby a financially submissive individual desires to give money or gifts to a financial dominant (findom).

Participants can be of any gender, but the dominant is often a woman and the submissive is likely to be a man. These male admirers will lavish their financial dominatrixes with expensive items and seemingly want nothing in return. For them, it’s all about surrendering power and feeling as if they are being controlled. It’s a form of escapism in a money centric world.

Financial domination is nearly always done on the Internet. Communication between the two parties, including the transfer of funds, happens online. Financial dominatrixes sometimes create their own websites to conduct conversations on.

Mandy in Emmerdale will not meet her admirers

This will be a big relief for Mandy, who doesn’t want anyone to know she’s Madame Diamante Dales.

Since findom is usually a form of ‘distance domination’ it’s highly unlikely the submissive and dominant will ever meet. Although findom is often sexually motivated, physical contact is not expected.

In extreme cases, the submissive will hand over full control of their finances to the dominant. This is referred to as a total power exchange.

Mandy is unnerved as Bear makes a comment in Emmerdale
It might help her now, but when Paddy finds out, will it destroy her marriage? (Credit: ITV)

So is this actually going to help Mandy in Emmerdale make a lot of money?

That all depends on how much the submissive is willing to pay the dominant.

Some findom partnerships consist of a one-off payment. These can be big or small. Others can lead to the regular transferring of money.

There are some men who are willing to go one step further. These individuals will hand over passwords and logins to their bank accounts.

This gives the dominant full control of their finances, allowing themselves access to their funds whenever they want. Crikey!

Will Madame Diamante Dales find herself one of these fellas? Now that certainly would be the answer to all her money woes.

  • Robert Sugden to return, fans predict as they are convinced they’ve worked out future for Aaron

Robert Sugden to return, fans predict as they are convinced they’ve worked out future for Aaron

As John Sugden swooped into Emmerdale last night, his scenes have got fans convinced Robert is also on his way back to the village.

John proved to be quite the charmer when he bedded Aaron then robbed him. Tonight (Thursday August 8) Victoria will meet John and find out he’s her half-brother.

But as the Sugdens are beefed up, could other brother Robert also return to cement the clan’s iconic status in the village? And what would this mean for Aaron and John?

John Sugden looks brooding as he watches Aaron fix his van
Aaron was immediately attracted to John (Credit: ITV)

    John Sugden arrives in Emmerdale

Last night (Wednesday August 9) Aaron headed off for a date he’d met online. He didn’t know the guy’s name, nor had he seen his face, only his torso. So when he stopped to a broken down van at the side of the road, Aaron had no idea who it was.

It turned out this was his date and although Aaron never found out his name, viewers recognised him as John Sugden. Aaron wasted very little time in getting jiggy with John. He requested a repeat performance, went to relieve himself in a bush, and then was stunned as John drove off with his keys, wallet and, most shockingly, his favourite black hoodie.

So John has robbed Aaron – which some might call justice after Aaron robbed Robert the first time they met on a roadside too.

Tonight Victoria – and Aaron – will discover who John really is. Vic attends a funeral with Eric and is stunned when the bereaved son introduces himself as John Sugden. Eric confesses he is probably Victoria’s half-brother. And when John’s van breaks down he is forced to head to the village after calling Mack’s breakdown service.

So how will Aaron react when he sees John again? Is he out for revenge? Or will they get together?

Aaron and Robert look tense as they stride through the village

    Emmerdale fans predict Robert return

Plenty of Emmerdale viewers have decided it’s the latter – and then Robert will return. After all, what’s the point of bringing in Robert’s half-brother if Robert himself isn’t coming back to square up to him? And getting him together with Robert’s husband? It’s just too perfect – isn’t it?

“If this new storyline isn’t setting up for a Robert return, then I don’t want it. The whole scene was as dry as the Sahara. Even Danny’s acting chops couldn’t make up for it,” declared one fan.

Another added: “Yes! Bring on the messy and complicated Aaron and John storyline! I’m guessing they couldn’t get Ryan Hawley back so they went this direction. I’m totally fine with it because Aaron is best when his life gets messy and complicated. With any luck…Robert will return in a year or so and then we will have a very messy and complicated love triangle. John/Aaron/Robert.”

“Ha I totally see a Robert/Aaron/John triangle by the beginning of 2025,”said a third.

A fourth agreed: “He’s out to set up Aaron…haven’t even seen it yet but anyone can see they’re gonna throw a spanner in and then Robert will magically reappear to mess Aaron up!”

Robert looks sombre as he appears in court to be sentenced
Aaron was devastated when Robert was given 14 years in prison (Credit: ITV)

    Where is Robert in Emmerdale?

Currently Robert is serving 14 years in prison for manslaughter. He attacked sister Victoria’s rapist Lee Posner, who died. Robert pleaded guilty, was sent down and cut all ties with Aaron.

It was later discovered Robert might not have been responsible after Lee’s brother Luke confessed he had also hit his sibling. But for some reason, everyone decided it would be too hard to prove, so let Robert rot inside! However, if they did want to bring Robert back, the story is there for the taking.

Should Emmerdale bring Robert back? It would certainly make an epic love triangle, that’s for sure!

  • ‘What’s wrong with Moira?’ fans question as they fear something is seriously wrong over major character change

‘What’s wrong with Moira?’ fans question as they fear something is seriously wrong over major character change

Something is going on with Moira in Emmerdale and fans are starting to wonder what – frankly, so are we!

Yes, she’s always been a feisty farmer not afraid to speak her mind. And yes, we’ve always loved that she’ll stand up to husband Cain when necessary. BUT, she’s somehow gone from strong women who we champion to very scary psycho, physically and verbally abusing Cain and others around her and, honestly, worrying us greatly.

So what is wrong with Moira?

Well, that’s exactly what fans have been asking too – and even Cain asked it last night when he told her: “I don’t like it when you’re like this, what is wrong with you?”

Viewers are starting to come up with theories over the major personality change for Moira. But what could it be caused by?

Moira crosses her arms and watches on angry in Emmerdale
    Moira’s scaring us! (Credit: ITV)

Complete character change for Moira in Emmerdale

Her personality transplant has been building for weeks. With her son Matty in prison after being set-up for a crime that was accidental self-defence, she has been worried sick. Matty was having a very hard time inside due to being trans.

Moira was desperate to get him out and insisted Cain should be doing more. She aggressively belittled him, told him the old Cain would never let this lie, and that he was weak and pathetic. And it came a mere weeks after he had had a break down over the old Cain having gone and Moira telling him she liked the new Cain. Make it make sense, love!

As her bullying and belittling continued, last week, Moira almost punched Cain when she saw him helping Samson. She told him not to come home as he was training the man who put her son behind bars to survive in prison himself.

Then this week, she went mad at him again when he accused her of calling the police and having Samson arrested for assault on Josh as revenge. She flipped and threw a glass at him, which hit the wall and smashed. She then viciously spat the whole family would be better off without him.

As he remained remarkably calm when confronting her the following day, Moira told him: “You’re the one being difficult lately, not me.” She looked properly deranged and like she really believed that as she sipped at her tea as if challenging him to come for her.

    Fans react to Moira change

So what’s going on here? Is it built up anger and frustration? Or it is something more serious? Some viewers think it must be a medical issue making Moira act with so much rage.

“I’m seriously considering something is medically wrong with Moira because she was never this level of constantly annoying,” said one on social media.

A second said: “Is it going to turn out to be a medical condition for Moira? She just acts weird sometimes, like she’s forgetful, it was like she didn’t remember, throwing the glass at Cain.”

Another queried: “Is Emmerdale going down the menopause route for Moira? It’s the only way to explain her rage and personality change?!”

“I’m starting to think Moira might be ill or something cos why is she acting like this? Has she forgotten she pushed Emma off a bridge to her death?” asked one more.

Others agreed with the menopause suggestion, but some were concerned it could be something even more serious.

“Could Moira have early on-set dementia or a brain tumour with her forgetting things?” suggested one.

More viewers felt it was a plot device to drive Cain into someone else’s arms – namely Ella Forster. Cain has been kind to Ella since he found out she was a child killer. He was one of the only ones who gave her the time of day – and continues to do so.

“Am I the only one who can see where this angry Moira storyline is going? Cain and Ella affair,” insisted one fan.

A second agreed: “Moira is turning into a psycho abuser like Tom, so it’ll be Cain off with Ella.”

7 times Emmerdale let us believe a character was dead – from Kim Tate to Ross Barton, it’s happened a lot!

Emmerdale is leading us to believe Rose Jackson is dead. The last we saw of her, she was stranded on the side of the road after Kim Tate and Will Taylor had discovered her plot to split them up.

Kim and Will told her to leave and never come back. They made her leave a message for Dawn saying she was going and then  left her in the middle of nowhere. Rose sobbed over a picture drawn by her grandkids at the side of the road, but then looked relieved when a car – bearing the Home Farm logo – drove by and stopped for her.

Was it friend or foe, however?

It seems like the latter as the next we saw, Rose’s belongings were strew by the side of the road and Rose was nowhere to be seen. Kim and Will simultaneously returned home looking pretty shifty and no one knows what has happened to Rose.

Emmerdale definitely want us to think she’s dead – and that either Kim or Will have killed her. But could there be a twist in the tale? Is she actually still alive and hiding out somewhere or being held captive? It wouldn’t be the first time Emmerdale has faked a death…

However, it wasn’t her! In May Kim waltzed back into Home Farm and told Frank she’d paid a prostitute to drive around the village pretending to be her, when actually Kim was sunning herself in the Caribbean. The body belonged to that woman, not Kim. The prostitute hadn’t been supposed to die, but she got stuck in the car and ended up making Kim’s fake death look even more authentic.

The shock caused Frank, who had been on remand for Kim’s murder, to have a heart attack. Kim stood by and watched him die before uttering the immortal line: “You’re a dinosaur, Frank, and you know what happened to them.” She then checked he was dead with her compact mirror before redoing her make-up. Brutal.

Then in June 2021, Kim reused her infamous plan to catch out son, Jamie Tate. He’d been drugging her and she wanted to expose him.

She hired actors to play the parts of the police, doctor and undertakers and even her then-lover Will Taylor was in on the act. Jamie was completely bewildered and upset – but even more so when he realised it had all been a plot against him!

    3. Jamie Tate

So Jamie then decided to play his mother at her own game. After his poisoning attempts, Kim disowned and disinherited him. Then-girlfriend Dawn then ended it because he Jamie had tried to frame her dad, Will, for targeting Kim.

With nothing left and determined to get his hands on Kim’s money, Jamie offered to elope with Gabby so their baby (she was pregnant after a one-night stand) would get the money and therefore so would Jamie.

However, Jamie soon decided he couldn’t bear to be married to Gabby and asked Dawn to run away with him instead. She turned him down, so Jamie decided to flee to escape Gabby and Kim.

As he sped out of town, he drove off a cliff edge into a lake. The car was dredged up, but there was no sign of his body. Kim was sure he had faked his own death, but viewers had no idea whether he was actually gone or not.

When his ex, Andrea, died months later, Kim organised a memorial hoping Jamie would come. He didn’t and that seemed to seal he was dead.

    But he wasn’t!

Instead he was hiding out with Andrea’s mum, Hazel.

    4. Joe Tate also not dead in Emmerdale

It seems no one in the Tate family has an original idea because Joe Tate, Kim’s step-grandson also pulled off the trick.

When Kim got out of prison, she ordered Joe dead and her henchman, Graham, urged Joe to flee. It meant Joe not turning up to marry Debbie Dingle, which sent her dad, Cain, into a fury. He punched Joe who fell and hit his head on a rock.

Graham stepped in and said he would dispose of the body. But when he put Joe in the boot of the car, his hand twitched. Graham was loyal to Joe and was later seen sobbing at the wheel of his car before telling Kim the job was done.

It was presumed Joe was dead, but viewers weren’t so sure. And it turned out they were right when five months later it was revealed Joe had escaped abroad and was living off money from Kim’s businesses.

    5. Ross Barton

In 2015, Ross Barton was having an affair with his brother Pete’s fiancée Debbie Dingle. After a helicopter crashed on their wedding day, Debbie was taken to hospital where Pete confronted Ross.

They fought in the hospital grounds and Pete charged at Ross, who hit his head on a stone wall. Pete continued to beat him until he realised his brother was dead. Desperate Pete drove Ross’ body to the woods and buried it in a ditch covered with leaves.

Viewers believed Ross was a goner, however, when Pete went back to get him with dad James three weeks later, they were stunned Ross was no longer there. In fact, he was in a coma in a hospital who thought his name was Stephen! Ross returned to the village shortly after and tried all he could to exact revenge on Pete.

    6. Rebecca White

Rebecca and her nephew Lachlan were the only survivors of a crash that killed their family. She spent a month in a coma following the accident and was left with a brain injury. As she started to remember what had really happened – that Lachlan had been responsible for the deaths of his mother and grandfather – Lachlan knew he needed to silence her.

When Rebecca came across Robert Sugden and Liv Flaherty unconscious, Lachlan stopped her calling an ambulance. He was later seen in the woods clutching a bloody wrench. It was believed he had killed Rebecca.

However, just a few days later we discovered Rebecca was alive and being held hostage in a wooden chalet. She then confronted Lachlan and tried to escape and he strangled her. Once again we thought she was dead, but she was actually locked up in a psychiatric hospital, being kept captive by retired nurse Mrs Sykes, who Lachlan had hired.

    7. Sadie King

Sadie King was ruthless and vengeful and she proved to be just that when she enlisted Cain Dingle to shoot her. Out for revenge on the King family, who had left her with nothing, Sadie wanted what she believed was rightfully hers.

Cain kidnapped her and Tom and shot Sadie, seemingly killing her. But actually she was still alive and it had all been staged. She then left the village after Cain double-crossed her too.

  • 4 theories on what has happened to Rose: Kim, Will, Ruby and Dawn in the frame over her disappearance

4 theories on what has happened to Rose: Kim, Will, Ruby and Dawn in the frame over her disappearance

Rose Jackson is no longer at Home Farm and, it seems, no longer in Emmerdale. But no one seems to know where she is – or do they? Suspicions are mounting over what has happened to missing Rose and whether she is alive or dead.

Rose was last seen sobbing at the side of the road, when a mystery vehicle pulled up beside her. The same scene was later shown with Rose’s belongings strewn on the side of the road, but no sign of Rose.

Tonight and into next week Kim and Will are looking shifty as they are both seemingly trying to cover their tracks. But do either of them know something?

We’ve rounded up the top theories on what could have happened to Rose.

    Emmerdale last night?

With Kim packed and ready to return to Home Farm and oust Rose, over at the manor house Rose was having another crack at Will. But he was guilt-ridden and wouldn’t give in to her advances.

Rose then discovered from Ruby that Kim knew everything, so got her side of the story in first, confessing to Will. Kim arrived mid-confrontation and calmly told Rose to pack her bags and leave.

Will and Kim then threw her in the boot and drove Rose to the middle of nowhere. Will gave her an envelope full of cash and they made her leave a message for Dawn saying she wasn’t coming back.

With Will and Kim bickering back at home over their marriage crisis, Rose was still on the side of the road crying over a picture the kids had drawn of ‘Granny Rose’. As she fell off the wagon and took a swig from her emergency hip flask, a vehicle pulled up. It appeared to have the Home Farm logo on it, but it wasn’t clear who was driving.

That was the last we saw of Rose, we next saw Kim and Will return home at the same time. Both had been out separately and both were acting suspiciously. We then saw Rose’s bag at the side of the road, with the items from it strewn around. But no sign of Rose.

Rose's things strewn on the side of the road, but what has happened to her in Emmerdale?

So what has happened to Rose in Emmerdale?

Tonight, PC Swirling turns up with Rose’s bag and asks about her welfare. Kim and Will spin a pack of lies as they hide their guilt – although which one of them is actually guilty still isn’t clear.

Next week we still don’t know what has happened to Rose. Both Kim and Will are acting like they know something, but neither is ‘fessing up. Instead they are snapping at each other and it’s clear their marriage is in trouble.

Dawn wants to hire a private investigator, so Kim sends a text from Rose’s phone telling her to leave her alone. This stops Will in his tracks as he wonders how on earth Kim got hold of Rose’s phone. Is this a clue?

Top theories on what has happened to Rose in Emmerdale

As ever, Emmerdale fans are cramming social media with their thoughts on just what has happened to Rose. And these four theories seem to hold the most water.

Kim Tate wants answers as she looks cross
Did Kim finish the job? (Credit: ITV)

    1. Kim has killed her

Kim’s reaction to Rose’s betrayal was a little bit sedated, wasn’t it? Would Kim Tate, the Queen of Revenge, really have left it there? Or is that what we’re supposed to think and actually she went back to finish the job?

“I bet Kim has killed Rose,” one fan speculated on X. Another agreed: “Ooo has Kim done the right thing and done her in?”

“Kim killed Rose,” declared an adamant third. A fourth writing on social media said: “Think Kim has gone back and done something to Rose. Then she will turn it into Caleb or Ruby did it.”

Would Kim Tate ever really get her own hands dirty, though? Surely if it was Kim she’d have paid someone to do it instead?

    2. Will killed her to stop his secret getting out

Although Rose didn’t reveal what had happened between her and Will, she made a cryptic comment about trust. It was clear she was planning to blow his secret at any time. And given that Will has outright lied to Kim about what happened with Rose, insisting he knocked her back, he needs to cover his tracks…

“Hot take: Will killed Rose because he knew Kim was right about Rose coming back since he gave her money. He also knew him lying to Kim would come back to bite him on the [backside],” wrote one fan.

Another pushed the storyline forward: “I think Will went to finish Rose off, didn’t trust her to come back and then we will find out that Evan needs donor and Rose is the only one in the family who can do it… something like that.”

“I reckon Will!! He was too scared she was gonna spoil his happy home he’s too much to lose,” said a third.

A fourth agreed: “I think it’s Will, he’s worried she will come back to him for more money or she will tell Kim about the kiss so he did something to shut her up.”

    3. Dawn did something to her mum

When Dawn came home and revealed she’d had that message from Rose, she didn’t seem as bothered as we thought. She took the spiking news quite calmly and welcomed Kim back to Home Farm really easily. Is that because she knows something about where Rose is? She also was seen driving a Home Farm vehicle earlier in the day…

“Maybe Dawn drove out to see Rose in the Home Farm Jeep,” queried one.

Another added: “I think Dawn was travelling home and saw her after hearing the message did something . It’s the fact they showed Dawn in the Home Farm vehicle. Crazy how these soaps get you guessing.”

“I think Dawn sorted her mother out,” agreed a third.

Ruby stares Kim Tate down in Emmerdale spoilers
Ruby wants revenge on Kim – but how far will she go to get it? (Credit: ITV)

    4. Ruby was involved in what happened to Rose in Emmerdale

Although it was a Home Farm vehicle, we actually don’t know whether that was the last one that pulled up. Was it a red herring? Could Ruby have arrived later – or even take one of the cars belonging to the estate to get Rose as part of her plan?

“I think Ruby attacked/ killed Rose. Remember Rose threw Ruby under the bus and we haven’t seen her all episode,” mused one viewer.

Someone else said: “I think it was Ruby because Rose knows too much so she abducted her to make it look like Kim had a hand in it.”

“I think it was Ruby who stopped and picked her up faking all her stuff strewn everywhere to make it look like she had been killed or Ruby has actually killed her because she knows Rose told Kim about their plan,” added another.

So, just what did happen to Rose in Emmerdale? We’re going to have to keep guessing for a while, we think!

  • After Rose beds Will, 7 other Emmerdale affairs really wound us up

After Rose beds Will, 7 other Emmerdale affairs really wound us up

Seductress Rose Jackson finally got what she wanted in Emmerdale after she lured Kim Tate’s husband Will Taylor into bed.

Rose has been putting it on Will for weeks, carefully planting seeds of doubt over the state of his marriage. It’s all been part of a bigger plot, orchestrated by Ruby Fox-Miligan, to get revenge on Kim.

Intent on destroying their rival’s life, Ruby ordered Rose to complete their plan by sleeping with Will. She did as she was told and made her move. This time, Will didn’t resist and gave into temptation, betraying his wife in the process.

Rose may be on a high after getting her wicked way with Will, but we can’t share in her enthusiasm. In fact, the whole thing is really annoying.

But Rose and Will isn’t the first Emmerdale affair to have us yelling at our screens. Let’s take a trip down memory lane. Apologies in advance.

    Worst Emmerdale affairs

Al and Chas cuddle up in bed in white dressing gowns at a hotel
Chas has been forgiven, but this has not been forgotten (Credit: ITV)

    Chas Dingle and Al Chapman

Woolpack manager Chas Dingle has made some pretty stupid mistakes in her life, Al Chapman being the biggest.

The affair started back in 2022. Chas was bored of her marriage to dependable Paddy and struggling over mum Faith’s terminal cancer diagnosis. Needing a distraction from her pain, Chas embarked on a torrid affair with on/off nemesis Al.

It wasn’t the first time Chas had cheated on Paddy, but her antics with Al felt in rather poor taste. Chas was so caught up in her forbidden romance, she ended up missing Faith’s final moments. Fans were disgusted by Chas’s selfishness as she carried on telling lie after lie to cover her tracks.

When the affair became public knowledge, the fallout was epic. Al ended up six feet under after being shot dead by young Kyle, and Chas didn’t fare much better. The Dingles turned against her and Paddy was equally unforgiving.

It left viewers wondering if there could be any redemption for the former landlady. Two years on, Chas is back in the circle of trust, but it’s taken a lot of work to get there.

Laurel straddles Bob and kisses him in Emmerdale

    Bob Hope and Laurel Thomas

It’s difficult to think about Bob Hope and Laurel Thomas’s 2017 affair without shuddering.

Because Bob had been a bit of a dog back in the day it didn’t come as a surprise when he strayed. But his choice of lover certainly raised a few eyebrows.

Laurel and Bob’s affair began after he supported her claims against unhinged Emma Barton. They began sleeping together, but it wasn’t long before Brenda rumbled the betrayal.

Hours after tying the knot with Bob, Brenda outed her husband’s affair to the village. Following that rather public humiliation, Bob attempted to make a go of it with Laurel. But they soon realised what we’d known all along – they were better off as mates.

Laurel is back on the market after her split from husband, Jai Sharma. But please, Emmerdale writers, no one needs a repeat performance of her and Bob.

Emmerdale affairs: Paddy Kirk and Viv Windsor/Tess Harris

Paddy Kirk shocked everyone – including himself – when he cheated on second wife Emily with postmistress Viv Windsor.

The mere thought of Paddy romping with Viv was enough to put anyone off their supper. His betrayal broke Emily’s heart and led her to leave the village.

Paddy clearly isn’t a man who learns from his mistakes. While married to third wife Rhona Goskirk he strayed with teaching assistant Tess Harris.

Their ill-fated fling resulted in tragedy when Tess was killed in a hit-and-run. And Paddy’s betrayal pushed Rhona into the arms of Tess’s monstrous widower, Pierce.

We think the lesson here is Paddy should have kept it in his pants!

Shirtless Nate takes Moira's face in his hands and kisses her in Emmerdale
    Better best forgotten (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

    Moira Dingle and Nate Robinson

Hands up if you remember Moira’s ridiculous affair with Nate Robinson?

It was so confusing to us why Moira would have gone with Nate. Her chemistry and passion with husband Cain was off the charts and they’d recently reconciled after a brief split.

Nate’s relentless pursuit of Moira made for uncomfortable viewing, particularly when it transpired he had a hidden agenda. He was Cain’s long-lost son and wanted revenge on his father for his apparent abandonment. Moira was just a pawn in his seedy game.

But as it turned out Cain knew nothing about Nate’s existence. So the whole affair with Moira was a waste of time and energy.

Liam and Wendy kissing in Emmerdale
This affair shocked everyone! (Credit: ITV)

    Liam Cavanagh and Wendy Posner

The image of these two playing doctors and nurses is one we’d rather erase from our memory.

Local GP Liam Cavanagh and practice nurse Wendy Posner worked together at the local surgery and bonded over their shared love of literature. Things then took a passionate turn after Liam scooped an award for his erotic novel.

He and Wendy first got it on in his doctors’ office and then wherever and whenever they mood took. Fans were grossed out by the pair’s sexy chat and took to social media pleading for the cringefest to come to an end.

Their prayers were answered when Wendy and Liam’s affair finally fizzled. And mercifully neither party have attempted a repeat performance.

Zak and Joanie look into each others eyes in the Woolpack

    Zak Dingle and Joanie Wright

Sorry but Zak Dingle cheating on his beloved wife Lisa was always going to be a big mistake.

His affair in 2015 with lodger Joanie Wright had everyone in absolute uproar. Not only did it feel completely out of character for the Dingle patriarch, but it also destroyed the soaps’ strongest marriage. Even actor Steve Halliwell (aka Zack) expressed his disappointment at the storyline.

Zak went on to divorce Lisa and marry Joanie, but he soon realised the error of his ways. Joanie was conveniently killed off and Zak managed to win back Lisa’s love. They remained together until her tragic passing in 2019.

But we’ve never quite forgiven Zak for the pain he put her through.

Tracy and Caleb look shocked as they're caught kissing
Tracy and Caleb should never have gone there (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale affairs: Tracy Robinson and Caleb Miligan

The recent fling between Tracy Robinson and Caleb Miligan made zero sense to us.

Tracy was happy and secure in her marriage to husband Nate, and they’d only just had got married anyway. There was no real reason for her to look elsewhere. Then all of a sudden she was in bed with his married uncle.

The whole affair between Tracy and Caleb felt forced, almost like they were straying for the sake of it. The chemistry just wasn’t there and it quickly became repetitive and tedious. In fact the most exciting part of it all was when Caleb’s missus Ruby outed their betrayal at Tom and Belle King’s wedding reception.

In conclusion, cheating didn’t do Tracy or Caleb any favours whatsoever.
