What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Billy’s boxing nightmare continued and so did Will and Kim’s marriage crisis

Emmerdale tonight dragged out some more stories including Billy fighting for money and Kim and Will’s marriage crisis. Just as they gave us a glimmer of hope that there was light at the end of the tunnel for some of the long-running plot lines, we hit more dead ends. Again.

Stay with us to find out everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Friday October 11.

Billy is lying to Dawn in Emmerdale

Billy lied to Dawn over and over again

Billy was still lying to Dawn and we’re still bored. Boxing promoter and billed new villain Jade soon pulled up in chauffeur driven car and Dawn just walked out right at that moment. Jade covered for Billy pretending she was just in the market for a new PT.

Billy was tempted by the money to fight again and as he discussed it with Mack the mechanic quickly worked out Billy was getting a kick out of the boxing and money wasn’t everything. But he insisted he was done with it all.

Back at home Billy and Dawn pledged their love to each other and stated family is all they need. But apparently not Billy, who still needs boxing.

He then found out the new car he’d bought was a cut and shut job and was only good for Vinny at the scrapyard. Billy whinged again about not being man enough to provide for his family and how things don’t just seem to be going his way. Dawn said much the same about them being unlucky and Billy was a sad man again. So he called Jade and accepted her offer.

This won’t end well. Billy knows it. We know it. Everyone knows it. But he’s doing it anyway. Awesome.

Kim has decided it's definitely over with Will (Credit: ITV)

Will offered an olive branch to Kim in Emmerdale tonight

Jimmy was still encouraging Will to try and save his marriage. Meanwhile, Kim was confiding in Lydia when Will arrived home with a chai latte with a sprinkle of cinnamon as a peace offering – that’s gonna do it, it’ll solve everything.

Well, it did force them to sit down and chat, at least. He confessed he never slept with Kerry and he wondered if there was a glimmer of hope for them. But Kim’s walls were up. Sigh. Although she did agree to think about trying again. Please let this be the ending in sight…

    Nope, apparently not!

Kim later texted Will to meet her and they soon started arguing. She said she was so tired of this bickering (she’s not the only one). Kim then told him to move out. She’d even packed his bags for him and drained their joint accounts. Now Will is also a sad man, just like Billy.

Tom wooed Amelia with the Woolie

Amelia seems to be the first person in the village who has noticed Tom is walking well, given he was axed in the back (have the writers been looking at social media and slotted that in, do we think?!).

And it also seems Amelia has started to see Tom’s not so lovely side when she asked if he was just trying to use her.

But alas, her rose-tinted spectacles were soon fixed and Tom proved himself by taking her to the Woolpack. She was taken in and told him she was ready to take things to the next level. But he turned her down. Are those alarm bells still not ringing, Amelia?

John stepped up in Emmerdale tonight

Laurel was still hassling Arthur about the condoms. She even suggested he pretend she was Ashley if that made it easier – why Laurel seems to think vicar Ashley would be better at this than her, given her, er, prolific sexual experience, we’re not sure.

John overheard and stepped in, asking Arthur to help fix his headlight. Arthur was a bit confused as to why John would want his help  given the lies he told, but John was using the excuse to gently (or as gently as John ever does) give Arthur some advice. In a brotherly way. Not in a sexual way. He made that much very clear, but does Arthur understand?

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

    Gail got her wish

Gail was still worried about dead Noreen following her around the room at home. She is sure she’s going to be possessed by her ghost and feels her watching her all the time. So she was thrilled when Ryan said they were moving into the Woolpack to escape the spirit.

    Sam was sad

Becoming the third sad man in the village was Sam. After visiting Samson in prison, Sam was down in the dumps. Samson’s not coping apparently. Liam bought Sam a drink to cheer him up and offered him some advice, but Sam wanted to drink alone.

  • Emmerdale fans upset over latest scheduling announcement – here’s why we think it’s a good thing

Emmerdale fans upset over latest scheduling announcement – here’s why we think it’s a good thing

Fans of Emmerdale have grown upset following the latest scheduling announcement from broadcaster ITV. In a massive shake-up to TV schedules, the soap will now be streaming on ITVX from 7am on weekdays – starting with next week’s episodes.

Along with fellow ITV soap Coronation Street, Emmerdale will be part of an all-new soaps destination feature on streaming service ITVX. This means that all-new episodes will be made available ahead of their usual transmission time during the week.

“This is great news for soap fans! Having the ability to catch your favourite show at a time that suits you fits perfectly with people’s busy days and flexible lives. And who doesn’t love the idea of watching the latest Dingle drama in the Dales or calamity on the Cobbles on the tram to work, or over a brew after dropping the kids at school! As a soap nerd, I should also say that the new soap page is an absolute treat. It’s a one-stop shop for fans of Coronation Street and Emmerdale and it will now be so easy to enjoy your favourite shows, and delve into their illustrious histories and beyond,” agreed Iain MacLeod, Executive Producer for Continuing Drama at ITV.

Good news for early-risers hoping for an early fix of their favourite soap. However, others aren’t quite so happy…

Emmerdale fans unhappy at early release

Writing on X as the announcement landed, fans shared their disappointment – with many fearing that spoilers would be even harder to avoid than usual now.

“Hate this as for people who work the spoilers are out before they get home to watch,” wrote one fan.

“Note to self then to avoid social media, as spoilers will be more visible if episodes are shown on ITVX before the normal time,” said another.

“Why would I want to do that? I leave for work at 7.45am three days a week and wouldn’t have time to watch them,” complained a third.

“Not a fan of this,” said a fourth, simply enough.

Viewers won’t have to wait until 7pm to find out how the Dingles react to Zak’s death (Credit: ITV)

    … and here’s why it’s a good thing

It’s not all doom and gloom though. Emmerdale following EastEnders’ lead in dropping the episode on the morning of broadcast makes it more accessible than ever for viewers, allowing them to watch in their own time.

Spoilers may be harder to avoid, but it’s a positive move for Emmerdale and Corrie, making the soaps less beholden to terrestrial television and helping viewers to watch on their own terms.

Emmerdale’s all-new streaming schedule starts from next Monday, October 14. Viewers can stream from 7am on ITVX as the Dingles learn the shocking news that family patriarch Zak has passed away.

The new dedicated Soap area on ITV can be accessed through the “Dive Deeper into ITVX…” section in the new Soap collection area.

  • Alan Turner, his wives and children: The life and death of Emmerdale’s iconic Woolpack landlord

Alan Turner, his wives and children: The life and death of Emmerdale’s iconic Woolpack landlord

Womaniser, former Woolpack landlord and father to iconic soap villain Steph Stokes – Alan Turner was a member of Emmerdale royalty. The character appeared on the soap for over 30 years, and was a part of such major storylines as the 1999 plane crash and the murder of Shelley Williams.

In today’s episode of Classic Emmerdale (Friday, October 11), Alan learns the extent of son Terence’s evil, as he admits to raping sister Steph as a child. During the ensuing fallout, Terence grows violent and punches his father unconscious.

But who was Alan Turner exactly?

Who played Alan Turner on Emmerdale?

Alan Turner moved to the village in 1982 with wife Jill and two children, Terence and Steph (formerly Mary). He was a major player on the soap from 1918 – 2013, and was played by actor Richard Thorp.

Alan spent much of his time as an estate manager for NY Estates, doing deals with local businesses and council work. During this time, he clashed with rivals Joe Sugden and Seth Armstrong. Alan was also one of the village’s most renowned ladies’ men, dating secretary Caroline Bates, re-marrying Shirley Foster and, later, striking up a relationship with his daughter’s best friend!

    Running the Woolpack

In 1991, after hearing that then-landlord Amos was selling up, Alan took over ownership of the Woolpack. As a shrewd businessman, Alan tried to modernise the country pub by opening a wine bar, installing a jukebox and even tried doing away with ales in favour of an all-new and fancy gourmet menu.

Alan’s wine bar was short-lived – being destroyed during the plane crash of 1993. Alan also helped out the emergency services in the aftermath of the disaster.

During this time, granddaughter Tricia Stokes arrived in the village – burning his beloved pub down when she let off fireworks behind the bar while he was on holiday. Although he had it rebuilt, Alan sold up the following year, in 1999. He then bought the Grange B&B.

    The return of daughter Steph

In 2002, Alan’s daughter (and Tricia’s mother) returned to the village, now calling herself Steph. While their relationship was a volatile one, they bonded over Tricia’s tragic death in 2003, growing closer as a result.

    Relationship to Shelley

Not long afterwards, Alan fell for Steph’s best friend, Shelley. Steph became instantly jealous, and her relationship with her best friend and father began to sour. Growing fed up of Steph’s constant bullying, Shelley left the village, causing Alan to start drinking heavily.

During his recovery, Steph developed a plan to take her father’s money and businesses for her own – drugging him into a docile state as she attempted to control him and his finances. Alan managed to extricate himself from Steph’s control, only barely managing to stop her from killing them both by driving to a quarry edge.

Meanwhile, evidence emerged that Steph had been holding Shelley hostage in the basement of the B&B. Alan believed that Steph had gone through with murdering Shelley – only for her to turn up from beyond the grave, at her own memorial service. Shelley’s return was short-lived, however, with Steph pushing her former best friend off a ferry and into a watery grave.

    Son Terence and Steph’s arrest

In 2006, Alan’s son Terence arrived in the village, amid claims that he’d sexually abused his sister as a child. Disbelieving Steph’s claims, Alan moved in with Terence. The truth was eventually revealed when Terence admitted to raping Steph later that year. During the ensuing fallout, Terence was killed, and Steph imprisoned for her brother’s murder.

Emmerdale pays tribute to Alan Turner star with commemorative episode

In July 2013, Alan announced that he was going travelling around France with his old biker friends. He returned off-screen in October that year – dying in his sleep before he could reunite with old friend Betty. He was aged 78 when he passed.

An hour-long episode was aired in June 2013, paying tribute to Alan and actor Richard Thorp, who had died in May that year.

This earned him a pounding in Wednesday night’s episode, in which he turned to Mack and John for help. As John helped stitch him up, Billy revealed that he had joined an underground boxing club.

Terence rages at his father in Classic Emmerdale

Following yesterday’s events, Terence wakes up with a sore head and packs his bags – which he hides when his dad arrives. Alan shares the news that his cheque should have cleared by now, and he’ll have a bankers draft made out to Terence for £20,000 later today.

Terence decides to hang around until he has the money and goes off to the pub to wait. Adam makes a dig at Terence and, fuelled by alcohol, Terence flies at him. Alan is alarmed to see his son mouthing off and throwing punches.

Later, when alone with Alan, Terence admits the child abuse towards Steph and accuses his dad of being naive.

Alan is shocked and refuses to hand Terence the bankers note. In a rage, Terence hits out at Alan and Alan falls to the floor unconscious. Terence takes the money and runs.

Steph and Adam arrive to check on Alan and see Terence leaving in Alan’s car. They find Alan on the floor, though he has re-gained consciousness. Steph is frustrated when Alan still continues to defend Terence. However, when they’re at the hospital, Alan tells Steph about Terence’s confession and begs for her forgiveness.

Alan feels a failure for raising two troubled children and insists he did not know about the abuse. But Steph doesn’t believe him and is angry that he failed to protect her.

    Matthew gets angry

Louise decides to go horse riding and uses Cossack. When Matthew sees the horse being brought back to the stables he’s furious that Louise used Sadie’s horse. He’s even more angry when he discovers she also borrowed some of Sadie’s riding gear.

Matthew is livid and shouts at Tom and Edna about it, before fuming at Tom for hiring out Sadie’s horse.

Later, Matthew calls Lynda. He arranges for a taxi to pick her up and they have a night in at Victoria Cottage while Chas and Carl are away.

    Nicola stirs the pot

Laurel asks Nicola if she fancies Ivan. Nicola is unable to deny it. She stirs things by telling Paul that Ivan finds both women and men attractive. This gives Paul food for thought and later he says no when Ivan suggests they go out.

Later, Laurel asks Nicola again if she likes Ivan. Nicola eventually confirms that she has feelings for him and that she doesn’t think he is really gay.

Laurel warns Nicola not to get involved and that messing around with her brother’s boyfriend is the last thing she needs. But Nicola is undeterred.

    Twinnie-Lee Moore on joining Emmerdale

Since leaving Hollyoaks, Twinnie has forged a career as a country music singer, performing in her own sold out shows and spending a lot of time in Nashville.

Speaking about being back on screen, she said: “My life has been a bit crazy recently juggling music and acting with lots of back and forth between Nashville and Yorkshire but I’ve been loving it!

“I’ve loved being back on screen, especially as the show is shot in Yorkshire. Being able to be home with family and go to work on such an iconic show has been nothing short of amazing! The whole team has been so welcoming and really supportive.

“My character is so much fun to play and I can’t wait to see how the audience reacts to her.”

Who did Twinnie-Lee Moore play in Hollyoaks?

Twinnie was part of the iconic McQueen family. She played Porsche McQueen – sister to Celine and Cleo, and cousin to Mercedes McQueen.

Porsche arrived in Hollyoaks in 2014 just as her fiancè Lockie was telling her cousin John-Paul that he wanted him. The wedding went ahead anyway, but ultimately failed due to Lockie’s numerous affairs.

Twinnie was also involved in a child abuse storyline. She was praised for her performance, which saw Porsche reveal that stepfather Pete had sexually assaulted her when she was 15.

The storyline saw Porsche emotionally reveal that she’d told her mum about the abuse, but her mum chose to believe Pete.

  • Emmerdale fans issue a long list of returnee hopes including Lady Tara, Jean Tate, Kathy Glover and Steve Marchant

Emmerdale fans issue a long list of returnee hopes including Lady Tara, Jean Tate, Kathy Glover and Steve Marchant

With classic characters such as Cindy Beale, David Wicks and Chrissie Watts making a return to EastEnders, Emmerdale fans are hoping for something similar.

Last month, it was revealed that Ross Barton would be returning to Emmerdale. He was very popular during his time in the Dales, but fans want some older nostalgia.

Following a post on X, fans of the soap listed which old school characters they want to see again. Here’s a selection of the most popular choices.

    Lady Tara in Emmerdale
Fans would love to see Lady Tara again (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

    Lady Tara Thornfield

Played by Anna Brecon, Lady Tara made her first appearance in Emmerdale in 1997. Fans warmed to her because, despite being somewhat uppity, there was comedy to her character.

During her time in the Dales, she upset the residents when she evicted a lot of them – fair enough. As like most people, she also had a rivalry with Kim Tate.

However, she was no stranger to a bit of rough and embarked on an affair with her driver Biff Fowler, before leaving the village with Sean Reynolds – who she later married.

    Steve Marchant

Another character who got on the wrong side of Kim Tate was Steve Marchant. He appeared in the soap for a few years in the late 90s.

Steve became the second husband of Kim Tate. He left the village after being framed by Kim and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Though, to be fair, the sentence was mainly for the attempted murder of Kathy – which he was guilty of.

Actor Paul Opacic has recently been seen in Coronation Street as the villainous Stefan. But Emmerdale fans are eager for Steve to return to the village and get revenge on Kim for stabbing him in the back. One fan said on X: “Steve could team up with Will and Caleb to try and take down Kim, but of course they would fail.”

    Chris and Kathy on Emmerdale

    Emmerdale return: Kathy Glover

Talking of Kathy, she is also a popular choice amongst fans for an Emmerdale return. Kathy was a mainstay in Emmerdale throughout the late 80s and the 90s before moving to Australia.

Aside from being run over by Steve, Kathy had many other near death experiences. She was in a car suspended on the edge of a cliff and was involved in the bus crash that killed Butch Dingle.

She was also famous for her many weddings – most famously to Chris Tate and Dave Glover. Not all the weddings ended in marriage, mind. After Dave died, she hooked up with his former brother-in-law Biff, but he jilted her at the alter.

On a potential return, one fan said: “She could speak about Butch, Seth, Alan and of course come face to face with Kim Tate again.” Viewers will remember that Kim had an affair with Dave, because of course she did.

    Zoe and Jean
Zoe’s daughter Jean will be grown up now (ITV/Shutterstock)

    Emmerdale return: Jean Tate

Jean only appeared in Emmerdale as a small child, but fans are eager to see what the dynamic would be like with Kim Tate. One fan wrote on X: “It needs to happen. Wouldn’t have her being anti-Kim, she could be an ally for her. Could be an interesting legacy character to have around.”

Named after her grandmother – and Frank Tate’s first wife – Jean was the daughter of Zoe Tate and Scott Windsor following a one night stand – which Zoe didn’t initially remember.

Zoe had a strained relationship with her step mum Kim, but fans think Jean could bridge that gap. It would certainly be interesting.

    Biff on Emmerdale

    Biff Fowler

The previously mentioned Biff is another blast from the past Emmerdale fans want to catch up with. He first appeared in the soap in 1994 as a biker.

Biff was happily married to Linda – but that was torn apart when she died in a car crash.

Following flings with Kelly Windsor and Lady Tara, Biff was all set to marry Kathy, but decided to ride off on his motorbike into the sunset instead.

    Vic on Emmerdale
Vic was killed in Emmerdale (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

Who else would Emmerdale fans like to see return?

Other names mentioned included Josh Lewis, who only actually appeared on screen for a few months – Emmerdale fans do not forget! He had an affair with Kathy, but departed following the 1993 plane crash. After Kathy’s husband Chris was paralysed, Josh knew Kathy wouldn’t leave him.

Other names mentioned were characters who are in fact dead – though a small detail like that hasn’t stopped a soap before. One fan suggested Vic Windsor, saying: “A weird choice I know, but he was a real character.” Fans also want Viv Windsor resurrected, as well as Joe Sugden.

6 theories on Ross Barton return including connection to Leyla and romance with Ella

Last month, it was confirmed that Ross Barton would be making an explosive return to Emmerdale, as Michael Parr reprises his role.

Ross left the Dales in 2018 to start a new life with Rebecca White in Liverpool following the horrific acid attack.

He’ll soon be rubbing shoulders with the villagers again, but why exactly is he returning?

Speaking about his return, Michael said: “I can’t wait for the audience to see what’s in store. One thing I can say is Ross’s return will no doubt create fireworks.”

Fans have been speculating about what – or who – his return could be about. Here are our top theories!

    1. Will Ross be involved in Leyla’s death?

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that Roxy Shahidi would be leaving Emmerdale after 16 years, and her character Leyla will be killed off.

A source told the publication that Leyla will exit in a ‘blaze of glory.’ Writing on X, a viewer asked: “Who thinks Ross’s return could have something to do with Leyla’s death in Emmerdale?”

Leyla and Ross do have a link as she was previously engaged to his brother Pete, so could Ross’s return and Leyla’s exit overlap?

    2. Is Ross’s return linked to Billy’s fighting?

Another fan wrote on X: “Why do I get the feeling Billy’s fighting story is going to be the story that involves Ross‘ return?”

Recently, Billy has been keeping a secret from Dawn. He has been participating in illegal, unlicensed boxing matches in order to make extra money for his family.

Could Ross somehow be involved in this? Back in 2015, Ross got involved in bare knuckle fighting, so it’s certainly possible that he could have entered the world of boxing.

    3. Could Ross team up with Ella?

Ella arrived in the village hiding a secret. When it was revealed that she’d killed her best friend when she was 11, the other villagers turned against her.

But she’s stuck around and even formed a bond with Dr Liam Cavanagh. However, fans are eager to see Liam get back with Chas, so have suggested Ella could move on with someone else – namely Ross.

“Maybe when Ross comes back, Ella could get with him,” one fan wrote on X, with another adding: “Ella needs to cop off with someone interesting. Roll on Ross returning, I could see that.”

Last time we saw Ross, he was in a relationship with Rebecca. But perhaps he returns because his relationship has broken down – could Ella be his next partner?

    4. Mystery guest at funeral

Emmerdale recently confirmed that a mystery person will show up at Zak’s funeral.

Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain, teased: “It’s someone you might know. They’re not going to make things go smoothly for the Dingles. Could it be someone back from the dead?”

Writing on X, a fan said: “I wonder if this major return for Zak’s funeral will be Ross Barton. We know that he’s returning to the village and he’ll probably appear by Zak’s graveside on Debbie’s behalf.”

However, the mystery person is described as being a long-lost relative, so this theory is less likely as despite having links to the Dingles through his aunt Moira and son Moses, Ross doesn’t quite fit that description.

Emmerdale: 5. Ross back for Moira?

Last month, following lots of health concerns, Moira Dingle was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Ross could be returning to support his aunt. Moira was previously married to John Barton, who was the brother of Ross’s dad, James.

One fan wrote on X: “Hope that Emmerdale remember that him and Moira were on good terms ‘cos she helped him catch his attacker.”

Emmerdale: 6. Is Ross involved in Aaron’s side hustle?

Aaron recently had his car searched by the police after they – rightly – suspected he was involved in the theft of some smart watches.

His current partner in crime is Mackenzie, with fans going crazy for their bromance.

Could Ross return and take Mack’s place? Fans certainly hope so, with one joking on X: “I was wondering if Aaron’s sudden urge to thieve somehow involves Ross as those two were a pair back in the day.”

While Ross and Aaron certainly clashed at times, they did team up to rob a warehouse. Could Ross be back to his old ways?

There is also a link in the form of Rebecca and her son Sebastian. Seb’s dad is Aaron’s former husband Robert. It’s a messy situation and certainly lots of scope for stories upon Ross’s return.
