‘Where’s Billy?’ Fans baffled by major character’s absence in affair storyline

In Emmerdale, Dawn has been cheating on husband Billy with Joe Tate – but fans have been baffled by Billy’s absence. And, we have too.

Whilst Dawn might’ve forgotten that her husband exists, fans haven’t been so quick to forget and have wondered just where he is amid Dawn and Joe’s affair storyline.

Billy’s been mentioned a fair bit recently, but we haven’t actually seen him that much in the aftermath of Will Taylor’s death at Christmas. So, where is he?

Joe and Dawn’s affair in Emmerdale

Since Will Taylor’s death, Joe and Dawn got rather close to each other and started a secret affair behind Billy’s back.

Poor Billy has put family first, being there for Dawn through little Evan’s cancer journey, as well as caring for Clemmie and Lucas. And, it seems like he’s doing most of the work…

Billy must be so busy because we’ve barely seen him in the last two months, and Dawn has used this to her advantage by spending more time with Joe instead.

So far, Joe and Dawn have managed to sneak around without raising much suspicion. They’ve been so good at it that Kim even enlisted Dawn herself to keep an eye on Joe and see whether he was up to anything dodgy. If only she knew…

But, now fans have been left baffled over a really key character’s absence throughout this whole storyline. And, they have a really valid point.

Fans wonder where Billy Fletcher is in Emmerdale

Poor Billy has no clue about Joe and Dawn’s affair, and that’s because he never seems to be around these days.

Fans have now taken to social media to question just where Dawn’s hubby is considering the whole point of the storyline is that Dawn is cheating on HIM.

One fan took to X and commented: “Where’s Billy in Emmerdale?”

Another person shared: “Dawn has zero pride, the desperate [bleep]. Where is Billy??”

A third fan pointed out: “Billy visits home once every 3 weeks lately.”

But, is Billy at work? Is he too busy looking after the kids to notice Dawn and Joe’s flirtation? Will we ever see him again?

  • Fans blast ‘hypocrites’ Moira and Caleb as they forget huge details amid Cain and Ruby fling aftermath

Fans blast ‘hypocrites’ Moira and Caleb as they forget huge details amid Cain and Ruby fling aftermath

Fans of Emmerdale have slammed the hypocrisy of Moira Dingle and Caleb Miligan in their continued treatment of disgraced love rat Cain. Last week’s episodes saw Cain tell Ruby about his fling with Ruby while Caleb plotted to bring down his brother.

Since then, Cain has been in the doghouse with both Moira and Caleb. And, with Kyle learning about the affair too (thanks to Mack’s big mouth), he’s persona non grata among most of his family at the moment.

What Cain did was terrible, of course (no-one’s trying to defend a man cheating on his wife while she’s undergoing brain surgery!) but many have found the behaviour of Caleb and Moira to be a bit hypocritical.

Emmerdale fans defend Cain amid hypocrisy of Caleb and Moira

Writing on social media, fans shared a reminder of Caleb and Moira’s own history of unfaithfulness.

“I think the Moria and Nate storyline was way worse tbh! Your wife having a long affair with your son??” wrote one fan – recalling how Moira had an affair of her own with Nate, back when he joined the village in 2019.

“Ruby and Cain happened once, Moira had an ongoing affair with HER HUSBANDS SON, Caleb had an ongoing affair with his NEPHEWS WIFE!!!” said another, referencing Caleb’s own affair with Nate’s wife, Tracy.

A history of cheating in Emmerdale

And Moira and Caleb aren’t the only ones. Who among the Dingle clan is able to claim innocence, when it comes to cheating?

“Half of them didn’t have a leg to stand on whilst they’re all shouting at Cain. Caleb has had multiple affairs and flings. Mackenzie fathered a child with Chloe. Mandy cheated on Paddy and Paddy has cheated on his wives Rhona and Emily,” a third pointed out.

“Such a pack of hypocrites. So many of them have had numerous affairs,” a fourth said.

Has the family gone too far by shunning Cain?

  • What is John Sugden hiding? From undercover police officer to harvesting organs, all the theories on who he really is

What is John Sugden hiding? From undercover police officer to harvesting organs, all the theories on who he really is

Since joining Emmerdale, John Sugden has been the subject of immense speculation among fans, all unsure of what his game is. As a long-lost member of the Sugden clan, he’s held his cards close to his chest, initially coming across as cold, aloof and… well, maybe a little bit creepy.

He’s opened up a bit since then, mostly in his relationship to Aaron Dingle. They’ve gone from strength to strength since Aaron attacked Anthony Fox – with John helping Aaron to cover up the murder.

Aaron may not have been the one who actually delivered the killing blow (that would be Ruby), but he’s been instrumental in hiding the crime – and Anthony’s body. However, his willingness and capability in covering up a murder has some suspicious, and his treatment of Aaron lately has raised a few red flags too.

    What’s John Sugden up to?

Many think John killed Nate (Credit: ITV)

Is John Sudgen an Emmerdale serial killer?

The prevailing theory is that John is a secret serial killer. This month’s revelation that Nate Robinson is dead and hiding at the bottom of a lake has all but confirmed the theory for some. Many think that John killed Nate – and could kill again.

“Is John going to be the latest serial killer to grace the village? I can’t think of anyone else who’d kill Nate,” wrote one fan on the social media site X.

“John is very defensive, I’m calling this Nate storyline the sub story for the year will gain traction through.. John isn’t who he says he is.. Aidan Moore .. serial killer just what the village of the damned need,” said another.

“I think it’s John. He could be a serial killer. He cleaned up Anthony body and got rid really well,” said a third.

Thankfully John was there to perform emergency surgery (Credit: ITV)

    Undercover police officer

Another – highly conflicting – idea is that John is actually an undercover cop, working to bring down the Dingles.

“I think John is lying and I wonder if he is an undercover police officer? Remember last year John told police about the illegal boxing,” suggested one viewer.

“Is GI John still a police informant?” asked another.

Is John Sudgen organ harvesting for Joe on Emmerdale?

Elsewhere in the village, sickly Joe Tate is fighting for survival. And, as he took a turn for the worse last night, it became clear that he’s got a big job to complete if he wants to survive. Some have wondered whether the two stories might be related.

Is John working for Joe to get the transplant he needs?

“The person Joe is in cohorts with is John- the reason he ‘took care’ of Anthony’s body is to harvest his organs. My tinfoil hat said so,” suggested one fan.

“Emmerdale prediction: John (who is actually Aiden Moore) is connected with Joe, and was involved in the drugging of Noah,” said another.

John and Aaron talk in the woods on Emmerdale

    Fake Sugden

Whatever John’s up to, many can’t let go of the suspicion that John isn’t who he’s claiming to be. John seemed to clear up the confusion over the Aidan Moore dog tags by explaining to Aaron that Aidan had been a friend who died in Afghanistan, but viewers aren’t buying it.

“Is “John” really “John” or is he really Aiden Moore, the man he had the dog tags for? Has he stolen his identity for some reason?” asked one viewer.

While lots think that ‘John’ could secretly be Aidan Moore, others think that Aidan was one of John’s previous victims… furthering the serial killer theory.

“THEORY – John killed Aidan and Nate,” one fan wrote.

  • Emmerdale fans ‘work out’ what’s wrong with Joe Tate after huge update

Emmerdale fans ‘work out’ what’s wrong with Joe Tate after huge update

For months Emmerdale fans have been asking what is wrong with Joe Tate, and now they think they have finally worked it out.

When Joe arrived back in the village on Christmas Day, there was clearly something going on. And it was clearly down to his health. But two months on and we still don’t have a clear answer.

However, in last night’s episode (February 27), viewers got a glimpse at just how ill Joe is. And after spotting a huge clue in the form of a suitcase, many think they know exactly what is going on.

Joe lying ill on the stairs (Credit: ITV)
What is wrong with Joe? (Credit: ITV)

What is wrong with Joe Tate?

On the night of the limo crash, Noah had been drugged. And after spending so long trying to get him to go to Dubai, Joe was clearly a suspect. And when Noah began having flashbacks to what had happened, it wasn’t long before we knew his older brother was responsible.

Last night saw Joe slip up and cause Charity and Ross to become even more suspicious that he had something to do with Noah’s drugging. And Ross wanted answers so badly that he took him hostage, holding him in the barn to get him to confess.

But Joe being Joe already had a backup plan incase anyone ever alleged that it was him. So, he got Ross to check his phone, which had proof he had purchased flight tickets to and from Brussels at the time of the accident.

Ross took this as proof, but still left Joe tied up. And he wasn’t looking good. By the time he managed to get to Home Farm, he had seriously deteriorated and made a suspicious phone call. That’s when his mysterious doctor arrived, holding a briefcase, insisting that what’s inside is “not a long term solution”.

And after Joe admitted he doesn’t know how much time he has left, many fans believe it was a dialysis machine that was inside.

Joe's doctor helps him in Emmerdale
Did his doctor bring a dialysis machine? (Credit: ITV)

    Fans ‘work out’ the truth

Taking to X, one fan wrote: “Joe has kidney or organ failure? Hence potentially using a dialysis machine?” Another replied: “I think so.”

Another penned: “I think Joe has kidney failure. The case may have had a dialysis machine? So he needs a kidney match. Maybe the theories about Caleb on the operating table could be true.”

A third commented: “So, what’s meant to be up with Joe then? Portable dialysis machine?”

And while he seems intent on Noah’s help, another pointed out that due to Noah’s overdose storyline back in 2019, his kidney’s probably wouldn’t work for Joe.

They wrote: “If that machine is Joe’s dialysis, then what use would Noah’s kidney be? After his overdose years ago, could he even be a donor?”

A fan responded: “I don’t think he can. Which is maybe what Joe found out when he was drugged and so he let him go. The overdose happened after Joe had left, so he may not have known about it.”

Joe’s clearly going to extreme lengths to get something, and many have wondered why he just doesn’t ask for help. But with his time clearly running out, it doesn’t look like we have much longer to wait.

  • What happened in Emmerdale tonight? April made a big decision and Ross threatened Joe

What happened in Emmerdale tonight? April made a big decision and Ross threatened Joe

Tonight in Emmerdale, Noah had a chilling memory from the night he was drugged. After questioning if Joe Tate had been there, Ross took matters into his own hands and kidnapped Joe.

Elsewhere, April Windsor made a big decision about her stillborn baby.

Here’s a full rundown of what happened in Emmerdale’s hour long episode tonight (Thursday, February 27).

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: The mystery with Joe continued

While talking to Noah, Joe said: “All this hassle is just temporary. You just gotta get it over with.”

This caused Noah to have a flashback to the hospital on the night of the limo crash, where a doctor asked “Are you sure you want to go through with this? It’s not too late to back out now.” Joe was there where he said: “We’ve come this far. Just get it over with.”

Noah then asked Joe if he was there on the night he was spiked, describing his memory of ‘something like a hospital.’

Joe denied all knowledge and said that being ‘injected’ with drugs must have messed with his memory.

Charity then told Ross that it was weird that Joe said ‘injected’ when no one knows that’s what happened to Noah.

Later, Ross threatened Joe and took him to a barn and demanded to know what Joe did to Noah. He held a needle with drugs in and threatened to use it on Joe if he didn’t talk.

Joe then showed Ross boarding passes on his phone and said he was actually in the air the night of the limo crash. Hmmmm…

Ross left Joe locked in barn ‘for the LOLs’ but Joe managed to escape and get home. After calling someone for help, he passed out on the stairs.

A man arrived and helped Joe upstairs saying, ‘let’s do this.’ The man later asked Joe: “Do you think you’re fit to be conducting however many other covert operations in addition to ours? Because I don’t. I think it’s, erm, idiotic.”

The man then pointed at a case and said it’s not a long term plan. Joe said the long term plan they do have needs to hurry up, adding: “I’m not sure how much time I’ve got left.” What exactly is their plan?

April made a big decision in Emmerdale tonight

Marlon, Rhona and April met with the counsellor – Trina, where Marlon suggested they should register April’s stillborn baby’s birth. April remained reluctant though.

When alone with Trina, she admitted she felt guilty for not appreciating the nice house she has and admitted to missing her friends on the streets.

April later told Marlon and Rhona that she was ready to register the baby’s birth. She named her Rebecca after her late friend Becca.

Following that, April announced that she wanted to go back to school the next day. Is it too soon?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Steph was suspicious of Ruby

Caleb couldn’t find Ruby. But we later saw her in the woods where her father is buried, talking to him . She screamed that she feels guilty and is a bigger mess than ever before.

Cain Dingle found her and Ruby told him she doesn’t know how to be normal about it.

Cain gave Ruby a lift home and dropped her off in the village so that no one saw them. However they were spotted by Steph – who just so happened to be standing in that part of the village.

Steph returned home and told her dad that Ruby is still seeing Cain. Ruby explained that it was innocent. But Steph knows something is up and is determined to find out.

    Elsewhere in the village

Cain continued to be hated and Kyle told him he didn’t want him at his football tournament. Later, Cain arrived home to see Moira and Caleb laughing. He commented that it looked ‘cosy,’which is rich coming from him after what he did with Ruby.

Meanwhile, Kim continued to be suspicious of Joe and brought Dawn into her plan, telling her to keep an eye on his shifty behaviour.

Follow-up: As Joe falls extremely ill and ‘doesn’t have long left,’ will he die? All we know

Ill Joe Tate took a turn for the worse in Emmerdale last night, as he was kidnapped by Ross and left fighting for his life as he collapsed back at Home Farm. Ross struck as he and Charity grew suspicious and became convinced that he’d been responsible for Noah’s spiking.

Joe dropped himself in it by suggesting that Noah had been ‘injected’ with something, his choice of words cluing Ross into the fact that Joe knows more than he’s letting on. Later, he confronted Joe, dragging him into a barn and tying his hands.

As he threatened to inject Joe with a mystery concoction, Joe’s health began to worsen. And, as Ross left Joe tied up and alone in the barn, he continued to grow sicker and sicker.

Joe managed to free himself, stumbling back to Home Farm. He made a call to his doctor before passing out on the stairs.

His doctor found him there soon after, ushering Joe to his room where – making excuses to Dawn – he recovered. Joe’s out of the woods for now, but it’s clear he’s on borrowed time.

“The long term plan we do have needs to hurry up,” Joe admitted as his doctor ushered him back to bed. “I’m not sure how much time I have left.”

Newcomer Rich is Al Chapman’s secret son, a new fan theory predicts

A new Emmerdale fan theory has arisen, suggesting that Jacob’s pal Rich could be the secret son of soap lothario Al Chapman. Rich has been the talk of the town this week after he became prime suspect in having spiked Noah.

Noah’s so-called spiking, in turn, set into motion a calamitous sequence of events. wandering in the middle of the road, Charity almost ran over her own son, having been driving a limo full of women (and Liam) at the time.

Swerving to avoid her son, she crashed into an ice-covered lake. During the crash and in its aftermath, three people were killed – Suzy, Leyla and Amy. In the days which followed, Noah and Charity searched for answers, reasoning that he must have been spiked.

    Did Rich spike Noah?

It was then that Charity set out on the hunt for Rich. With Noah having intercepted a drink meant from Belle, everyone figured that Rich must have spiked it. He had previous for dodgy behaviour too, being caught with a bag full of cocaine in The Hide.

But with Rich managing to convince Charity and Belle he was innocent, she switched her suspicions back to Joe. And, as Noah suffered flashbacks to Joe standing over him in a mysterious hospital room, she may just be right. Did Joe drug Noah?

Meanwhile, some viewers have pointed out that Rich looks somewhat familiar. Is he the son of a former village resident?

Rich is the secret son of Al Chapman, Emmerdale fans predict

Writing on social media as this week’s episodes aired, fans shared their thoughts on Rich’s parentage. And some wondered whether he might be the son of one Al Chapman.

“Jacob’s friend looks like Al, anyone remember him? He was Chas’ ex fella,” wrote one fan.

“His secret son?” a second wondered.

“He [Al] was a dirty dog if I remember correctly so probably,” a third agreed.

    Could Rich be Al’s son?

Love rat Al was the former lover of Chas Dingle. After a lengthy affair, he died – killed by young Kyle, who’d been protecting his dad. But, as one fan rightfully points out, Al was famed for his putting it about. Could he have a son in Rich?

Fans worried for Aaron as John raises ‘major red flags’ with ‘controlling’ behaviour

Fans of Emmerdale have been left worried for Aaron as John Sugden showed off a series of ‘red flags’ during last night’s episode of the soap. This came as Aaron informed him that mum Chas wanted him to go to the police to beating Anthony prior to his disappearance.

Worried that John couldn’t be trusted, Chas left Aaron with doubts about John. Returning home, he told John that Chas wanted to go to the police, and again asked where the body was – and how he could be so cool about the situation.

John hit back, fuming that Aaron hadn’t told him about Chas’s plan. “I thought you loved me,” he said, worried that Chas was planning on throwing him under the bus. “I put my life on the line to save your skin. Just you remember that.

An understandable fear, given he’s covered up a murder for them all – but his delivery had some concerned.

“Yep. “I thought you loved me” was a huge red flag,” replied another.

“Manipulative, secretive, controlling, and proper creepy,” a third commented.

“Yeah as soon as he said that line I thought that, it’s the sort of thing Tom would have said to Belle,” pointed out a fourth, invoking the name of Tom King.

John revealed Anthony’s final resting place on Emmerdale last night

Looking to claw back some control over the situation, John relented and showed Aaron where he’d buried Anthony. Meeting Aaron, Chas, Caleb, Cain and Ruby out in the woods, John revealed Anthony’s makeshift grave – under a trunk in the ice and snow.

This seemed to satisfy those with nagging doubts, and Chas put her plan to call the police on the back-burner. Later, Ruby returned to her dad’s final resting place, where she let out a cry of anguish.

But is John telling the truth? Some fear that he’s still manipulating the situation and speculation grows as to whether Anthony really is buried there – or even really dead at all. Can Aaron trust John?
