Emmerdale spoilers: April’s ‘heartbreaking’ story to be told as soap releases details of ‘standout episode’

The whereabouts of missing teenager April Windsor are set to be revealed in Emmerdale spoilers for next week. Young April has been missing for weeks now, with stressed dad Marlon agonising over her whereabouts – but no closer to finding his daughter.

After CCTV footage located her living rough on the streets of Leeds, he and Ross took off in hot pursuit. Unfortunately, the pair were unable to find April in spite of their relentless pavement-pounding. And with Marlon worried that she might have either died or been kidnapped by monstrous Anthony, things haven’t been looking good.

Someone finally finds April next week – but where is she found, and in what state is she in? A special episode of the soap will tell April’s story, exploring her situation as she navigated life on the streets. Where has April been?

Emmerdale producer reveals April’s ‘heartbreaking’ journey

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw said: “April’s flashback episode is a heartbreaking depiction of life on the street as a teenage girl. Continuing to take guidance from the fabulous team at Missing People, it was incredibly important that we didn’t shy away from the agonising journey that April would go through. Their help was invaluable in making sure the episode has the authenticity required.

She continued: “Amelia Flanagan‘s outstanding performance makes this arguably, one of Emmerdale’s stand out episodes of this year and promises to start a new journey for the character of April, forever changed by her time living on the city streets.”

April may be coming home, but will she ever be the same again?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Steph found out ‘the truth’ about Anthony as Laurel became even more unbearable

The village got wind of what Anthony Fox is in Emmerdale tonight and it sent Marlon spiralling. As Laurel continued to make things worse with her wittering, Steph found out her grandad was an abuser – but not the whole truth.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Friday January 31.

A version of the truth about Anthony was revealed to Steph in Emmerdale tonight

Caleb wanted him and Ruby to move on. But then the police turned up to talk about missing Anthony.

The cops told Ruby and Caleb what Laurel had said and asked them if they knew where Anthony was. Ruby stuck to the story that Anthony was a free spirit.

When Steph came home, Ruby filled her in on what had happened between Anthony and Laurel. She also told Steph Anthony was capable of violence and that he had abused her when she was a kid – but she didn’t mention the sexual abuse. Ruby claimed he used to beat her.

Steph did not believe her. She refused to entertain the idea and once again stormed off.

Ruby found Steph on a bridge and told her she wasn’t lying. Steph eventually believed her and the two reconciled. The truth obviously hit Steph hard though – so how much longer before she finds out the whole truth?

She later lashed out at Nicola and Laurel about making up lies and they dropped Chas right in it. Caleb assured Chas it would all be fine, but she is sure the house of cards they’ve built will come crashing down sooner rather than later.

And this is Soapland, so chances are Chas is right.

As this storyline continues to get more and more frustrating someone please just tell Steph the truth, we’d all just be a lot happier then. Well, maybe not Steph, but the viewers at least.

Laurel continued to make things worse as Marlon got suspicious

Laurel had been questioned by the police over her confession and released on caution. But she was still wittering on about her guilt. Someone send her on holiday.

She then confided in Bob, which was a mistake because he immediately told the entire Woolpack that there were suspicions Anthony was a paedophile. He thought it might be relevant to April’s disappearance. And so it’s all blown up because Marlon now thinks Anthony has gone missing with April. Nice one, Bob.

Marlon stormed round to see Laurel, he was fuming no one had told him. Laurel insisted they were wrong about Anthony, but Marlon knew something wasn’t right – it’s about time someone realised it, we just never thought it would be Marlon!

Meanwhile, Caleb, Chas, Aaron and John had a secret meeting in the pub back room to make sure they were all covering their tracks. And then Marlon stormed in wanting answers. Caleb tried to talk him down, but Marlon still didn’t believe him. Although he agreed to trust him, Marlon isn’t going to let this go.

Bob was feeling brighter and he thanked Eric for helping him see sense. He and Pollard clearly now share a bond.

So too do Eric and Kerry, who insisted he do yoga with her. The two unlikely friends cemented their status as Eric called her family.

  • Ruby and Caleb should pin Anthony’s death on Cain as ‘justice’ for his treatment of Ollie and Jasmine in Classic Emmerdale, fans demand

Ruby and Caleb should pin Anthony’s death on Cain as ‘justice’ for his treatment of Ollie and Jasmine in Classic Emmerdale, fans demand

With a shocking murder sending shockwaves around those in the know on Emmerdale, those accountable are desperately trying to keep their secret (and Anthony Fox) buried – but some are suggesting that it should be pinned on Cain Dingle, for his prior treatment of Jasmine, Ollie and Amy.

The soap revealed last night (Thursday, January 30) that it was Ruby who killed Anthony. Finding her father after Aaron had beaten him up, Ruby finished him off, ridding the world of another monster. This, the truth, came out as a guilt-ridden Aaron also confessed to the crime.

He was horrified to learn that Ruby and Caleb had let him believe he’d killed a man. And, as an oblivious Laurel handed herself into the police for attacking Anthony, fingers were pointing in every direction.

What those responsible need is a patsy. And who better to take the fall than Cain Dingle?

Cain should take the rap as ‘justice’ for treatment of Jasmine and Ollie in Classic Emmerdale, fans say

Writing on Reddit in the wake of last night’s episode, one fan put forth their idea for closing out Anthony’s murder… and it would serve as poetic justice for Cain, who has plenty of skeletons in his own closet.

“If it was up to me they would just pin it on Cain after Ruby finds out that he also used to abuse teenage girls. And then he gets sent to prison and the family all live happily ever,” this fan wrote.

Elsewhere, others remembered Cain’s unsavoury history with younger women.

“Having Cain involved in Ruby’s storyline is sickening considering he slept with 15 year old Ollie when he was 26 and got Amy pregnant when she was 16 and he was 36,” another viewer said on X.

“He’s gotten away with too much. I’m not forgetting him sleeping with Amy when she was 16 and then threatening her to get an abortion. Or Jasmine who was barely 18 (to get back at his daughter nonetheless). Dirty behaviour,” said a third.

Cain Dingle – from predator to loving family man

These days, Cain is a (mostly) reformed character, playing devoted father to his children and loving husband to wife Moira. But it was a different story when he first arrived in the village – especially where women were concerned.

When he wasn’t involved in a toxic romance with cousin Charity or scheming Sadie King, Cain is also remembered for his more problematic relationships with a series of younger women. First there was 15-year-old Ollie Reynolds, who Cain bedded in an attempt to get under the skin of her mum, Angie.

Then there was Jasmine Thomas, his daughter’s girlfriend – who fell pregnant with his child after he slept with her to get back at Debbie. After Ollie and Jasmine, Cain then moved on to 16-year-old Amy, who he also made pregnant – but kept the child in spite of his threats.

The soap may have swept Cain’s earlier behaviour under the rug, but many haven’t forgotten. Will the soap ever hold Cain accountable for his grim past?

  • John to kill Aaron in a bid to keep Anthony death a secret, a new Emmerdale fan theory predicts

John to kill Aaron in a bid to keep Anthony death a secret, a new Emmerdale fan theory predicts

A new Emmerdale fan theory has predicted that cold-blooded John Sugden may kill Aaron in an attempt to keep his part in Anthony’s death a secret. Neither John nor Aaron were ultimately responsible for Anthony’s death – but their cover-up in the days since left them both implicated.

Last night’s episode of the soap (Thursday, January 30) revealed that it was actually Ruby who killed Anthony, smothering him as he lay dying on the ground. Aaron was stunned to learn that he hadn’t actually killed Anthony – and furious that she and Caleb had kept the truth from him.

As the episode ended, all involved agreed to stay silent. But with Aaron clearly struggling with his conscience, will he be able to hold it together in the face of a police investigation?

A dark new theory has emerged suggesting that John may then kill Aaron in an attempt to keep his own part in the crime a secret.

John to kill Aaron, Emmerdale fans speculate

Writing on Reddit yesterday, fans shared their theories as to how the story might play out. And with many still not trusting John, this could be bad news for Aaron

“What if John kills Aaron to keep the secret of what happened to Anthony… Aaron being the wrapped up body we saw in the flashback, and Cain standing over his grave?” asked one fan.

“That would be a sad ending to a sad life really,” said another in response.

“I hope they don’t kill him off or make John a killer,” a third fretted.

“Aaron crying again, John will be taking him out at this rate, and not in a nice way,” said another viewer, over on X.

    Is Aaron in danger?

Viewers still don’t trust John (Credit: ITV)

What’s John’s game? All the red flags so far

This latest theory comes amid intense speculation over John’s true motives. The former soldier leapt to action in the wake of Aaron’s attack on Anthony – and many felt he was far too comfortable in covering up a murder.

This has led some to believe that John could be harbouring a dark secret of his own – wondering whether he might have actually killed Anthony (since proven to be untrue), or ‘disappeared’ Nate.

Whatever the case, John is clearly all-too comfortable around death, and his ‘controlling’ approach to Aaron only worried fans more. Only time will tell whether John’s heart is in the right place… but for now, Aaron and Ruby should just be glad that he’s on their side.

  • Fans applaud Ruby for ‘taking back the power’ in huge Anthony twist

Fans applaud Ruby for ‘taking back the power’ in huge Anthony twist

As Ruby in Emmerdale has been revealed as Anthony’s true killer and not Aaron, fans have applauded her for taking control away from her abusive father.

When Aaron beat Anthony up last week, fans were quick to work out that he wasn’t the one who actually murdered him. But while they believed that, they still were unsure as to who did.

But last night’s episode saw Ruby tell him the truth – that it was her, and Caleb was going to clean it up when he saw Aaron and John had already done so. And fans agree that this outcome is far more fitting than anyone else being the culprit.

    Ruby is upset in Emmerdale

    Emmerdale Ruby kills Anthony

When Aaron left Anthony in the Depot, he was still alive, just badly beaten. But when he and John came back, he was dead. In another flashback we saw the truth of what happened in that short time between.

Ruby had gone to the Depot, and when she got there she saw Anthony in a bad state. She made the decision to leave him there and let him suffer. But her vile father reached out, grabbing her leg and she snapped.

Ruby no longer saw him as her father. She was able to recognise the monster he was, and knew she had the power to take revenge for the sexual abuse. So, she lifted a rag and suffocated him until he was dead.

The emotional performance yet again from Beth Cordingly has been applauded by fans (Give her the awards!) as they praise Ruby for taking that power back.

    Fans applaud ‘fitting end’

Taking to X fans were quick to share their reaction to the revelation. And it was all positive.

One wrote: “So glad it was Ruby that killed him! If it was anybody that had to do it then it had to be her. She got her justice in her own way. Tonight’s episode was amazing, with great performances from Danny and Beth.”

Another penned: “I’m actually glad it was Ruby that killed Anthony after all the abuse he had done to her!”

A third simply praised the actors: “Beth Cordingly as Ruby is the best thing on TV right now.”

“You know what? Good for Ruby. She got the justice she wanted and needed. Glad it was her,” a viewer wrote.

The consensus being that Ruby was a far better choice than anyone else to have killed Anthony. And now that Aaron is in the clear, hopefully he doesn’t continue to spiral.

But with Laurel turning up to the police station, will they be caught just as everything is out in the open?

  • Emmerdale viewers ‘work out’ what John did with Anthony’s body as they notice flashforward detail

Emmerdale viewers ‘work out’ what John did with Anthony’s body as they notice flashforward detail

The real mystery of who in Emmerdale killed Anthony as his death was finally solved last night (Thursday January 30).

After Aaron spent a few days thinking he was responsible for Anthony’s death, in a not-so-surprising twist, he wasn’t.

Viewers were given yet another flashback to the day of the death. We saw that it was actually Ruby who killed her father – a very fitting end. But when she, Aaron, John and Caleb got together to discuss the next steps, fans couldn’t help but wonder about the body.

    Anthony looks scared in Emmerdale

    Emmerdale flashforward

At the beginning of the year, Emmerdale gave us flash-forwards of certain characters. But we had no idea on how they ended up in that state.

And in one of them, there was a wrapped up body being thrown off a bridge. So when Anthony died and John wrapped his body up, that’s what we assumed would happen. But we never actually saw that.

Which brings up a few questions. Where did John put Anthony’s body? And if that wasn’t the death in the flash-forward, is there another murder looming? Fans have thought John may be the next serial killer…

But now, some think that John’s choice of words have shown them exactly where the body may be.

Taking to a reddit thread, viewers debated whether Anthony was buried – or fed to the pigs.

    Emmerdale John looks calm
What did John do with the body? (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale Anthony death – where is his body?

One wrote: “What has John actually done with Anthony’s body? All I have heard him say is that they don’t need to worry about it?”

A user responded: “Isn’t he meant to be the one pushed in the river?” which someone answered: “We didn’t see that actually happen though.”

Another wrote: “I think the boring answer is he probably buried him in the woods.”

However, others think John had a more sinister plan for Anthony’s body. One that will be much harder to trace back.

“He told Aaron there was nothing left of him to be found. Then said there was no chance of them finding the body. Maybe he put him through Moira’s mincer.”

Another backed this up, adding: “If he was smart, he would have either cut him up to give it to the pigs. Or disintegrate it.”

And John has given the impression that he knows how to cover up a murder. So perhaps there really isn’t a trace of Anthony’s body.

Either way, knowing what actually happened to the vile man, surely he will have to tell someone how he got rid of it?

And who was in the body bag in the flashback?

  • Laurel’s participation in Anthony story leaves Emmerdale fans fed-up: ‘It’s so unnecessary’

Laurel’s participation in Anthony story leaves Emmerdale fans fed-up: ‘It’s so unnecessary’

Fans of Emmerdale have found themselves irritated by Laurel Thomas as she continues to make life more difficult for Ruby, Aaron and all involved in the murder of Anthony Fox. Laurel thought herself responsible for Anthony’s disappearance after belting him when he attacked Nicola in a self-righteous rage.

She and Nicola got the wrong end of the (candle)stick after he subsequently disappeared. She thought she’d inadvertently killed the old man, but the truth was far stranger than that – Ruby had (‘vertently) finished Anthony off after he’d been given a pasting by Aaron.

Laurel confesses to attacking Anthony in Emmerdale

Believing that she and Nicola were responsible for his disappearance, Laurel has been struggling with her guilt ever since. This almost led her to relapsing, even buying a bottle of booze to cope. She managed to resist drinking again, but this couldn’t assuage her feelings on the matter.

Ruby revealed the truth of the situation to Aaron last night, but that didn’t help Laurel’s conscience any. While Aaron, Ruby and Caleb got to the bottom of things, Laurel handed herself into the police.

To many, this was the final straw.

Laurel in the police station on Emmerdale

Emmerdale fans slam Laurel as she confesses to the police

As last night’s episode aired, fans took to social media to share their dismay at Laurel’s behaviour – a distraction from the more pressing matter of Ruby‘s abuse and the subsequent murder.

“This Laurel/Nicola part of this storyline feels like such an unnecessary addition!!!” wrote one frustrated fan.

“In true Emmerdale fashion, they have turned the focus on laurel and Aaron in RUBYS storyline,” said another.

“Laurel, Anthony walked or should I say staggered out of your house alive, why would you think he’s dead – he is, I know but these Nico and Laurel feel shoehorned and completely unneeded!” wrote a third.

“Laurel is getting on my nerves,” a fourth agreed.

The soap seems to be struggling with what to do with Laurel at the moment. Has her inclusion in this particular story been a misstep?

  • Emmerdale viewers ‘annoyed’ by Aaron’s ‘overreaction’ to Ruby’s murder revelation: ‘He has to play the victim’

Emmerdale viewers ‘annoyed’ by Aaron’s ‘overreaction’ to Ruby’s murder revelation: ‘He has to play the victim’

Fans of Emmerdale have been left irritated by Aaron Dingle‘s reaction to learning that Ruby was the one who murdered Anthony. Ruby’s confession came last night (Thursday, January 30) as she came face-to-face with a guilt-ridden Aaron.

Believing that he’d been the one to deliver the killing blow, Aaron confessed all – only for Ruby to reveal that it had actually been her. Sneaking into the depot after Aaron fled the scene, she smothered her molester father to death.

By the time Aaron and John returned to the scene, Anthony was dead, and John and Aaron set about cleaning up Ruby’s handiwork. Or should that be Aaron’s? It was essentially a group effort, but Aaron had a strong reaction to discovering he was innocent.

Aaron is overreacting, say Emmerdale fans as Ruby tells the truth

As the episode aired, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on this surprising turn of events. And many wondered why Aaron was making it all about himself.

“Aaron has actually lost the plot He has to be the victim doesn’t he?” said one fan.

“Aaron NEEDS to be the victim or he won’t accept it,” said another.

“Sorry why is Aaron making it all about him, why would she be thinking about him it’s not all about him god he’s infuriating!!” said a third frustrated viewer.

“Aaron making everything about him,” another said.

Caleb, Ruby and Aaron argue on Emmerdale

What happens next as Ruby reveals she killed Anthony?

Aaron’s mood does make some sense, given that he and John have spent the week covering up Anthony’s murder. This involved Aaron sneaking into Ruby and Caleb’s home to steal Anthony’s passport and keys, then moving his car to the garage.

The game was almost rumbled when Manpreet witnessed their dodgy conversation and overheard some curious sounds coming from the garage. However, cooler heads prevailed, and it looks as though they might have gotten away with it.

But with Laurel choosing yesterday to also confess to the police, the foursome may now have some difficult questions to answer. Emmerdale spoilers for next week haven’t revealed what happens next – but the game is far from over.

By now we all know the usual time slot for Emmerdale is 7.30pm on ITV. But that won’t be when you can watch it tonight.

What time is Emmerdale on tonight?

Emmerdale tonight will now air at 7pm, half an hour earlier. This is because of the Rugby Six Nations.

While the match doesn’t kick off until 8.30pm, coverage begins an hour earlier, kicking Emmerdale out of it’s usual spot.

As it’s the first match of the league, we can expect there may be more Emmerdale schedule changes in the coming weeks. Coronation Street is also affected and that won’t air at all.

Of course the episode is already available to view on ITVX, so viewers can actually watch it whenever they like!

    What happens in Emmerdale tonight?

In last night’s episode we saw the truth come out about what actually happened to Anthony.

While up until now viewers were expected to believe Aaron killed him (nobody really believed that, though), it turns out it was actually Ruby.

She found Anthony in the Depot after Aaron had beat him up. And when he tried to touch her, she saw him for the monster he was, and killed him. But when Caleb went to clear the evidence up, he saw John and Aaron had beaten him to it.

So, when Aaron heard this, he, John, Caleb and Ruby all formed a plan on how to keep it quiet. But Laurel had to ruin everything by going to the police station.

We can expect tonight will see the fallout of the reveal, and also of Laurel’s decision.

Elsewhere in Emmerdale tonight, Marlon is still determined to find April. But so far, the search has not been going well at all.

And as there still is no update, Marlon makes the decision to raise the reward for information. But all he really manages to do is cause more concern from Rhona, Mary and Ross.
