Elsewhere… Caleb acts with caution to avoid suspicion over Anthony’s death.

Marlon offers a big reward in Emmerdale spoilers tonight

It’s been over a month now since April went missing (but it feels like years), and Marlon’s no closer to finding his teenage daughter.

He realises tonight that his endless searching isn’t working so now he changes tactics and decides to offer a big reward for finding April.

Rhona and Mary both worry that this sum is too much and will leave the family in a difficult financial situation. But, fair enough, Marlon will do anything he can to find his daughter – even if that means losing a couple of grand. You can’t put a price on family…

    Caleb’s careful

Last night (Thursday, January 30), it was revealed that Ruby actually killed Anthony and not Aaron in a huge twist.

Caleb had known about this all along and had helped Ruby keep her secret. But now, Aaron, John AND Chas all know what really happened.

They’re teaming up together to get their stories straight, but Aaron looks to be struggling with all of this. He might’ve not killed Anthony, but he DID attack him until he was barely breathing so he should at least accept some responsibility…

Tonight, Caleb acts carefully so that no suspicions will arise from any of the other villagers. But, will anybody rumble him?

    Eric’s happy news

After Kerry stopped him from burning down the shop yesterday evening, Eric receives some good news tonight.

But, could this good news help get him out of the financial mess he’s in?

As soap reveals that Ruby killed Anthony, everything that happens next

Tonight’s episode of Emmerdale dropped the bombshell news that Ruby killed her abusive father, Anthony. Wracked with guilt because he thought he’d done it, Aaron turned up at her home, determined to confess to killing her father.

As he shared details from his past with Gordon, Aaron broke down and told her that he’d killed her dad. Unable to ease his guilt, Ruby saw no option but to come clean herself – revealing that she had been the one who finished the old man off.

Ruby reveals that she killed Anthony

As Ruby shared the truth, a flashback sequence showed her arriving at the depot after Aaron left. Discovering Anthony broken and bloody on the floor, she was disgusted when he reached out to touch her… and smothered him to death.

Aaron was appalled to discover that Ruby and Caleb – who was in on it – let him believe that he’d killed Anthony. He was ready to explode when she broke down, revealing that Anthony is in fact Steph’s biological father.

The truth is out… but what happens next?

  • What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Aaron confessed, but Ruby made an even bigger confession as Anthony’s true killer was exposed

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Aaron confessed, but Ruby made an even bigger confession as Anthony’s true killer was exposed

Emmerdale tonight was a huge twist in the Anthony murder storyline when it turned out Aaron didn’t kill him after all. Of course, viewers had suspected all along someone else had finished the job – and it turned out that someone was Ruby. With Caleb’s help.

But as Aaron, John, Ruby and Caleb came up with a plan to cover everything up, the foursome look set to be derailed after Laurel decided to confess to the police.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Thursday January 30.

The truth about Anthony’s murderer was revealed

    Aaron confessed

Aaron was overwhelmed as John gave him a pep talk about keeping it together. He couldn’t stop thinking about self-harming. So he went to see Ruby, who was desperate to avoid talking to him.

“I’m scared I’m going to do something really bad,” he told her. He confessed he had a history of self-harming and was getting the urges to do it again. Ruby tried to talk him down telling him not to dwell on the past. He told her about Gordon hanging himself and apologised for taking justice away from Ruby.

Aaron then confessed: “I killed him, Ruby, I killed your dad.”

Ruby confessed who had really killed Anthony in Emmerdale

As he recounted what had happened, Ruby begged him to stop, but then she stopped him with her own bombshell: “You didn’t kill him. I did.”

We flashed back (again) as Ruby told Aaron what had happened. She had found Anthony in a bad way, but still alive. She was going to leave him, but then when he touched her she snapped, grabbed a rag and suffocated him to death.

Aaron was shellshocked that she then allowed him to think he had killed someone. She insisted she had been going to the police, but she couldn’t bring herself to tell her children everything. Ruby told Caleb, who said he would make it all go away.

Caleb went to the depot to clean up, but found out John and Aaron had got there first. Aaron was devastated that they didn’t say anything to him and were trying to frame him.

    Caleb played bad cop

Mid-conversation, Caleb returned and discovered Ruby had confessed and Aaron thought he has been set up for murder.

Caleb played bad cop and said if Aaron reported them all roads led back to him so he’d be landing himself in it. But Ruby broke down and begged Aaron not to go to the police, revealing the truth about Anthony being Steph’s real dad.

    The cover-up completed

Aaron called John and the four of them laid out their next plan. John was obviously furious, but Caleb pointed out they were all culpable and needed to work together to get their stories straight.

John assured them Anthony’s body would not be found. Their story is he’s a free spirit who’s gone off to blow his fortune before he dies.

The only remaining worry was Steph searching for her grandad. But Caleb assured she would give up eventually.

However, then Chas walked in and had overheard the last part of the conversation, so wanted answers. Aaron was adamant he was going to tell Chas the truth. But would she agree to the cover-up?

Laurel ruined everything in Emmerdale tonight

Laurel was still wittering on. Kerry reported to Nicola she’d seen Laurel with a bottle of vodka, so Nicola went to search Laurel’s recycling.

Laurel insisted there was only one bottle and she poured it down the sink. She doesn’t want to go to meetings, she doesn’t want to talk to anyone, she wants to tell her secret. For goodness sake, Laurel, just give it a rest.

She sees it as a decision between confessing and going to prison or starting to drink again.

Nicola found out from Chas that Anthony had supposedly been seen and had just left of his own accord, but she was too late to inform Laurel who was at the police station, confessing she had killed someone.

So she is about to ruin everything for everyone. Bloomin’ Laurel.

Eric and Bob helped each other in Emmerdale tonight

Kerry was still trying to get through to Eric, but he was reluctant to engage with her. He was acting suspiciously and it didn’t take Kerry long to find his stash of arson equipment and realise what he was planning.

Eric insisted it was a victimless crime, but Kerry then confessed she started the fire that killed Frank. Pollard was still determined to go ahead with his plan, just saying he wouldn’t be so stupid as to let anyone get hurt.

Pollard went to visit Val’s gravestone to talk things through, but there he encountered Bob, sobbing. Bob had been avoiding going to see Heath’s headstone due to his overwhelming grief. The two had a heart to heart as Eric encouraged Bob to accept Heath was gone and try to celebrate his life.

Bob later returned home to offer his support to Cathy and told her he was ready to see Heath’s headstone. Together he and Cathy took all of Heath’s favourite foods and celebrated Heath’s life at the graveyard.

It seemed his chat with Bob had helped Eric too as he realised nothing was going to bring Brenda back to him. He was not going to burn down the shop. Fortuntately.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

Matty returned home to apologise to Amy. He explained his reservations over having kids. But then he told her he wanted them to adopt.

They then told Kyle what they were planning and he was on board with it – as long as it’s a sister.

  • Opinion: Why Ruby being Anthony’s killer is the most fitting ending to the whodunnit

Opinion: Why Ruby being Anthony’s killer is the most fitting ending to the whodunnit

In Emmerdale tonight, it was revealed that Ruby was actually Anthony’s killer in a huge twist and not Aaron.

Aaron broke down and confessed that he’d killed her dad, but no, oh no, he actually hadn’t.

Ruby had actually finished her dad off in the Depot, suffocating him with a rag.

Ruby looks over Anthony, who is dead on the floor in Emmerdale
A flashback revealed that it was Ruby had killed Anthony (Credit: ITV)

    Emmerdale: Ruby is Anthony’s killer

Aaron and John have been busy trying to cover up Anthony’s death this week, scrapping his car and getting rid of his belongings.

This is because they believed (and fairly had every reason to believe) that Aaron has actually killed Ruby’s dad when attacking him in the Depot.

They’d gone back to the scene and cleaned up the crime scene, disposing of his body.

Tonight (Thursday, January 30), Aaron broke down and couldn’t take it anymore after considering self-harming.

He then fessed up to Ruby that he’d killed Anthony, meaning that he would never go to prison and pay for abusing her.

Ruby then shut Aaron down and told him that she’d actually killed her dad. Flashbacks then saw her find Anthony on the floor of the Depot and suffocate him with a rag.

Aaron and John were livid that Ruby had made him believe that he’d been the one to finish Anthony off. Before we knew it, Caleb, Ruby, Aaron, John and Chas all knew the truth and teamed together to get their story straight (so that’s basically the whole village that knows now anyway.)

It turned out Ruby was hiding a massive secret too (Credit: ITV)
Ruby’s face was the last one Anthony saw (Credit: ITV)

Opinion: Ruby being Anthony’s killer is the right move

With the soap airing a whodunnit, we were first led to believe that Aaron had bumped Anthony off. With major focus being shifted from Ruby to Aaron, it didn’t seem right for Ruby to not be at the forefront of the storyline that is very much about her and her story.

Having Ruby kill her dad was very poetic, as she told him that she was the last face he’d ever see. He had to look at Ruby in the eye and face exactly what he’d done.

Ruby reclaimed some of her power back after her father tried to cruelly take that away from her all those years ago when she was just a young girl. It was really fitting to see Ruby being the one to end Anthony’s life after he robbed her of so many happy years due to his abuse of her.

Whilst we would’ve rather seen Anthony suffer in prison and do time for his crimes, the way Aaron had left him meant that he was most likely going to die anyway. So, the fact that Ruby took his last breath meant that she could see her dad pay at least a little bit for what he’d done.

But, now that Ruby’s told Aaron that she’s Anthony’s killer, will she be able to stay out of a cell?

  • Emmerdale: ‘Controlling’ John ‘the new Tom King’ say fans amid fears for Aaron

Emmerdale: ‘Controlling’ John ‘the new Tom King’ say fans amid fears for Aaron

Emmerdale fans have grown concerned for Aaron, branding John Sugden ‘the new Tom King.’ John’s controlling side has come out as he attempts to protect Aaron from the consequences of killing Anthony.

Cleaning the crime scene and hiding the body, John has been Aaron’s rock. However, viewers have seen another side of John. In addition to handling the situation, he’s also attempted to keep Aaron from spiralling out of control or confessing to Ruby.

Last night’s episode (Wednesday, January 29) saw John remain firm in his stance that Aaron should keep quiet about the attack – Aaron’s own feelings on the matter be damned.

This has kept Aaron out of prison so far, but some have suggested that his behaviour towards Aaron seems a bit familiar… reminiscent, in fact, of one Tom King.

John ‘the new Tom’ suggest Emmerdale fans as he ‘controls’ Aaron

Writing on X as recent scenes aired, fans shared their thoughts on the chilly interplay between John and Aaron. And a few were unsettled by John’s demeanor with Aaron.

“John is the new Tom and Aaron is going to end up being a version of belle, John does like to be in control,” wrote one fan.

“John is really controlling Aaron,” observed another.

“I have to say John really creeped me out he seems very controlling and the differences between him & what Robert would have done is really apparent, John doesn’t know Aaron at all,” said a third.

But what does John’s controlling side mean for Aaron?

    Tom Emmerdale Ofcom Complaints
Tom’s gone, but the soap soon filled the void of manipulative monster (Credit: ITV)

    What’s John’s game?

No sooner had Tom King been sentenced to prison than Anthony filled the role of village creep. As Tom’s story came to an end, so Ruby’s ramped up. The soap then confirmed that he’d raped her as a teenager.

Anthony is now dead – with Aaron having apparently beaten him to death. John’s willingness to cover up a serious crime had many baffled, pointing out that he might have an ulterior motive.

Many are convinced that John isn’t what he seems – with theories ranging from serial killer to psychopath. Devoted (if slightly creepy) boyfriend or controlling would-be killer? What’s John up to?

  • Opinion: Soap doesn’t know what to do with Laurel – change needs to happen

Opinion: Soap doesn’t know what to do with Laurel – change needs to happen

Laurel is not having the best of times recently on Emmerdale as she’s been worrying that she killed Anthony following her attack on him.

She hit him over the head with a candlestick and has been struggling with what she did ever since (she’s literally forgetting that Anthony was attacking Nicola… but okay!)

Now, she’s considering handing herself into the police and has been tempted to turn to the bottle. And, it just seems like the same storyline again and again…

Emmerdale: Laurel whacking Anthony on the head with a candlestick
She isn’t coping well (Credit: ITV)

    Laurel Thomas’ predicament in Emmerdale

Laurel was an unlikely hero a couple of weeks ago as she rushed in to help a friend in need by whacking Anthony on the head with a candlestick after witnessing him attacking Nicola.

Anthony stumbled off with a head wound, with Laurel and Nicola teaming up to clean up the crime scene. But, Laurel was unable to clear thoughts of Anthony out of her mind though.

Even though it was basically self-defence and she has no idea whether she actually killed Anthony (which we know she didn’t), Laurel has been debating whether to go to the police and hand herself in.

She’s been struggling with the idea so much that she’s thought about turning to drink again. We think we’ve seen this one before…

But, is this all that’s left for Laurel now? Have storylines run out for her?

    Emmerdale's Laurel is worried
    Oh, Laurel (Credit: ITV)

Opinion: Is there anything else left for Laurel?

Recently, Laurel turned to Marlon in her hour of need. She looked for his support as she considered turning to the bottle.

This week, she’s come very close to letting the alcohol touch her lips again. And, it’s all a bit repetitive if we’re honest.

Not only is Laurel’s current predicament doing our head in (seriously, why is she soooo stressed about something that was very clearly self-defence?), but she’s just been a tad annoying for quite some time.

Her storylines seem to consist of her either cheating or drinking and it almost seems as though the direction of the character has been lost.

Of course, Laurel’s been around in the village for many years and can’t always be at the centre of every storyline. But, when Laurel has a storyline, it’s usually the same one she’s had for years just recycled.

Surely, there must be something, anything else to give to Laurel. She’s a great classic character who has just become predictable as time has gone on. We’d love to see her with something a bit more exciting this year!

  • John preparing to kill multiple villagers, new fan theory predicts

John preparing to kill multiple villagers, new fan theory predicts

A new Emmerdale fan theory has predicted that John Sugden is preparing to kill multiple villagers. This comes amid fan speculation that the former soldier is secretly a serial killer plotting his next move.

He and Aaron have spent the week tidying up after Anthony’s death – with Aaron left shouldering the blame after apparently beating the resident monster to death.

Supportive boyfriend John leapt into action, tidying up the crime scene and disposing of Anthony’s body.

To many, John’s coolness under pressure seemed mighty suspect – taking Anthony’s death and the subsequent clean-up in his stride.

John preparing to kill several villagers, predict Emmerdale fans

Writing on X this week, one fan shared their theory that John is a ‘psychopath’ biding his time until he kills again.

“John is definitely a closet psychopath. It’s just a matter of time until he starts killing off the villagers, and there’s plenty to choose from,” this fan suggested.

Meanwhile, speculation is abound that John is set to strike again. And a number of names are already being thrown around. Bad news, then, for Manpreet – who’s high on the list of potential victims.

Manpreet pulls a face on Emmerdale

Who will ‘killer’ John murder next?

“John is making this a lot harder than it needed to be, and now Manpreet is on his psycho radar,” said one fan on X, as Manpreet began to grow suspicious of John and Aaron’s activity in the garage.

“Aaron crying again. John will be taking him out at this rate, and not in a nice way,” said another, suggesting that Aaron might be next.

With fans speculating that John has killed before – including the popular theories that he already murdered Nate and finished off Anthony. With the red flags racking up, John has some way to go to clear his name.

Amy Walsh: From Celebrity Masterchef to soap star partner, pregnancy and singer sister

Amy Walsh is best known for playing Tracy Robinson in ITV’s Emmerdale. She joined the soap in July 2014. Since then she has remained on the show, only taking a break for maternity leave.

Amy has had some huge storylines over the years during her time in Emmerdale. From starting off as someone who worked in an online chat room, she has gone on to have multiple marriages and found long lost sister, Vanessa, in the village.

And it’s no surprise Amy was able to do brilliantly at the storylines given to her – as it seems talent runs in her family.

But who is the actress behind the character? Well Amy Walsh is a former Celebrity Masterchef contestant, sister of a huge singer and even has a daughter with another famous soap star.

    Who is Amy Walsh?

Amy Victoria Walsh is a British actress, best known for playing Tracy Robinson in Emmerdale. The 37-year-old actress joined the soap when she was 26 years old.

She has previously admitted that she actually auditioned for the role of Rachel Breckle, before getting Tracy. But that character ultimately went to Gemma Oaten.

Before Amy joined Emmerdale, she was in the fourth series of Hollyoaks Later, the Channel 4 Hollyoaks spin-off.

    Amy’s famous siblings

Amy is the youngest of four children, born to John and Diane Walsh. And it seems she’s not the only one who is in the spotlight.

One of her sisters, Kimberly Walsh, is a member of a huge pop girl group, Girls Aloud. The band recently embarked on a reunion tour, which Amy publicly supported and attended.

But Kimberly isn’t the only famous sibling of Amy’s. Her other sister, Sally Walsh actually featured in Emmerdale way before Amy. From the year 1997 until 2000, Sally played the character Lyn Hutchinson.

The famous sisters were raised in Allerton in Bradford, alongside their brother, Adam.

    Is Amy in a relationship?

Amy went public with her EastEnders star boyfriend Toby-Alexander Smith in 2020.

Toby is best known for his role of Gray Atkins in EastEnders from 2019 until 2022.

While the pair were private with their relationship at the beginning, over time, they have shared more photos with each other.

The couple announced their engagement in 2022, before tying the knot in August 2023.

    When was Amy Walsh pregnant?

Amy Walsh was pregnant back in 2021. She and Toby announced that Amy was pregnant in September that year.

Amy had previously revealed she had been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome at the age of 20 and so she was surprised she was able to get pregnant so quickly.

Their daughter, Bonnie Mae was born in December 2021.

Amy took time out of Emmerdale for her maternity leave, but once she came back, she has remained ever since.

She has previously spoke on Lorraine about the struggles of balancing being a new mum and also working as an actress.

Speaking of the difficulty, she said: “I went full throttle into a massive storyline. I barely saw either of them. And then he [Toby] flew to Bulgaria for a film. It’s constantly like that. It is a struggle.

“I don’t have family around me to help. It’s tricky, but you do it.”

Amy Walsh’s career away from Emmerdale

Emmerdale isn’t the only place you may have spotted Amy on your screens over the years.

And it also seems acting isn’t her only talent. In 2023 she took part in the eighteenth series of Celebrity MasterChef. Amy successfully made it right to the final of the show. But just at the end, she lost to Wynne Evans.

A lot of years ago she also featured on an episode of Family Fortunes, as her sister, Kimberly was playing.

It was also announced last year that she would star beside her husband in an upcoming movie – that he wrote himself.

More recently, Amy, alongside Emmerdale and other soap co-stars started their own reality TV show, Drama Queens. Throughout the series, they would allow the cameras a behind the scenes glimpse at their lives away from the soaps.
