What happened in Emmerdale last night (Tuesday): Caleb grew concerned by Steph’s digging and Marlon made Dylan an offer

In the episode of Emmerdale last night, Caleb was concerned about Steph after she claimed to have received a phone call from her grandfather.

Elsewhere, Marlon Dingle made Dylan an offer. Will he take it and get himself clean?

Here’s what happened in Emmerdale last night (Tuesday, March 11).

Caleb and Aaron talking in the Woolpack

    Steph’s announcement surprised Caleb

Steph continued to be suspicious of her parents. She accused her mum of not caring where Anthony had got to.

Steph’s continued digging got to Ruby, and she later asked Aaron, “How do you murder another human being and then live?”

Soon after, Steph approached Aaron and Caleb in the pub. She revealed that she had good news – Anthony had called from France. She said he was two days late but had eventually made it.

Aaron and Caleb managed to mask their surprise that a dead man had turned up in France and made a phone call. Caleb said it was a relief, but after Steph had walked away, the concern was written all over their faces.

Aaron said he felt like he’d seen a ghost and warned Caleb that he had to shut Steph down.

    Steph made a discovery

Caleb visited Ross and told him they needed Steph to stop looking for her grandad and get on with her life. Ross wasn’t happy about being an ‘errand boy’ but he took note of Caleb’s words and tried to talk to Steph about her behaviour.

Steph revealed to Ross that she’d lied about hearing from Anthony, that it was a trap and that she thinks Caleb knew she was lying.

Ross told Steph her behaviour wasn’t normal and that she needed to let it go. Steph snapped that he was just worried that it was getting in the way of his sex life.

Later, Ross followed Steph back home and found her trying to get in the safe. She eventually managed to open it and was shocked to find a gun.

Marlon made Dylan an offer in Emmerdale last night

After revealing to Rhona that he was responsible for the missing ket in an attempt to set Dylan up, Marlon ventured to the hospital to reveal the truth to Dylan.

Dylan initially told Marlon to get lost, but later, Marlon managed to convince Dylan to hear him out. Marlon went on about how he only wanted to protect April. Dylan asked Marlon: “You scared I’m gonna tell April what a scumbag Daddy is?” But Marlon insisted he was going to tell her himself.

Dylan eventually opened up to Marlon telling him that it hurts getting treated like dirt by everyone he meets ‘except your daughter.’

Marlon shared that he has been researching rehab facilities and offered to pay for Dylan to go private. Dylan was excited by the prospect and spoke about how he could pay Marlon back once he had turned his life around.

Just as Marlon was about to head off to tell April the truth, Dylan stopped him, telling him: “Let her think it’s me. I robbed the ket. Please. Why make it all worse?”

A threatening letter arrived for Manpreet

Manpreet Sharma spoke to Ella and told her she is always on edge. Ella advised Manpreet to call the blackmailers bluff, saying: “I wouldn’t just do nothing.”

But later at the surgery, while Ella was sorting through the mail she came across a letter for Manpreet. It read: “I don’t make idle threats – no police.”

Manpreet continued to fret, while also being confused as to what the so-called blackmailer wanted because they hadn’t actually asked for anything yet. Will Manpreet discover who the mystery person is?

    Elsewhere in Emmerdale last night

Gail noticed that Mary was distracted. Mary said she couldn’t help wondering how it might have turned out and told Gail about the moment she shared with Suzy on the day of the limo crash.

They were interrupted by Vanessa, who wanted Mary to write in a book of Suzy memories, leaving Mary feeling guilty once more.

Steph’s found Caleb’s gun, but is the game up for the ‘Anthony murder club?’ Here’s what’s next in Emmerdale

In Tuesday’s episode of Emmerdale, Steph continued digging into Anthony’s disappearance and stumbled upon Caleb’s gun.

Since Anthony Fox disappeared in January, Steph has been determined to get to the bottom of her grandfather’s silence.

As she grew suspicious of her parents, she started to search through their things and found Caleb’s gun. Is she getting closer to the truth?

Having been suspicious of her parents for a while, Steph Miligan decided to set a trap. She approached Caleb and Aaron in The Woolpack and informed them that she’s heard from Anthony. She told them he’d called her from France.

Caleb looked uneasy as Aaron warned him that he had to shut Steph down and stop her getting involved. He attempted to do that by getting Ross involved. Caleb told Ross that Steph would listen to him if he advised her to get on with her life and forget about Anthony.

However, that wasn’t the case. Steph didn’t want to hear what Ross had to say and insisted she was right to suspect something was wrong otherwise Anthony would have at least sent one message.

Back at the house, Steph continued to search for clues. She eventually managed to get into the safe and was shocked to find a gun.

Emmerdale fans celebrate as Kelvin Fletcher ‘returns’ to soap

Fans of Emmerdale have rejoiced at the ‘return’ of Kelvin Fletcher to the soap, almost ten years after Andy Sugden left the Dales. However, there’s a caveat – Kelvin won’t be reprising his role, but will instead be hosting a new podcast – sorry, Vodcast – on soaps with his wife, Liz.

The couple, who were married in 2015 and share four children together, currently star in the ITV show Fletcher’s Farm together, in which they share the trials and tribulations of their life on a farm in the Peak District.

Kelvin hasn’t left soapdom behind entirely though – and, posting to Emmerdale’s official Instagram account, he and Liz announced their Vodcast debut with a new video. They were joined by guest Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie Plummer on Coronation Street.

  • The real Marlon ‘would never stoop so low’ insist disbelieving Emmerdale fans

The real Marlon ‘would never stoop so low’ insist disbelieving Emmerdale fans

In Emmerdale this week, Marlon Dingle went to great lengths to get rid of Dylan from April’s life. But fans don’t believe the real Marlon would stoop so low.

Marlon has been wary of Dylan since April introduced them, believing him to be a bad influence on his daughter.

During Monday’s episode (March 11), Marlon made a dangerous error and fans aren’t amused.

Marlon’s decision puts Dylan in hospital

April Windsor met Dylan on the streets during the troubled time when she run away from home. Insisting that she wouldn’t have survived out there if it hadn’t been for Dylan, Marlon agreed to let him stay at their house in the village for a few days.

However, this was a reluctant decision from Marlon. He, Rhona and Ross have continued to be concerned about the effect Dylan is having on April’s life.

Then while in the vets with Marlon, Rhona informed him that some ketamine had gone missing. The pair were quick to accuse Dylan. He firmly denied the accusation, but the missing ketamine was found in his coat pocket.

Dylan continued to plead his innocence, but when even April wouldn’t believe him, he left.

Later on, Marlon admitted to Rhona that it had actually been him who stole the ketamine in order to set Dylan up. It proved to be a costly mistake as news soon reached them that Dylan was in hospital following an overdose.

Marlon fretted that it was all his fault and felt guilty about his actions.

Fans disbelieve Marlon plot in Emmerdale

Emmerdale viewers have taken to social media to slam the storyline, claiming Marlon’s behaviour is out of character.

“The normal Marlon wouldn’t be acting like this… he’d be helping Dylan,” wrote one fan on Instagram.

A second viewer added: “Marlon… I don’t think he would have stooped so low,” with a third fan writing: “Marlon! He wouldn’t! I just can’t see it.”

Over on X, a fourth fan said: “Why have they ruined Marlon like this. Why can’t he go back to being the dopey but essential good hearted fool that he was?” with a fifth asking: “When did Marlon become so conniving? He was never like this at one time.”

“Please can Marlon go back to the fun guy we know. Had enough of the worst dad ever,” said a sixth fan. While another fan simply said: “This Marlon storyline is getting more and more daft every episode.”

  • Emmerdale: Sarah false pregnancy a ‘hint’ that she could die, fans fear

Emmerdale: Sarah false pregnancy a ‘hint’ that she could die, fans fear

Fans of Emmerdale have been left wondering whether Sarah Sugden‘s life is in danger as last night’s episode of the soap (Monday, March 10) revealed that her pregnancy had been a false alarm.

Sarah initially believed she had fallen pregnant after sleeping with Jacob, and shared the news with Charity soon afterwards. But, as she sat down for a check-up with Manpreet, the doctor revealed that she wasn’t really pregnant.

Sarah and Charity were left reeling at the news, with Sarah fearing that this had been her last chance at a family – due to her health issues.

Sad news for Sarah – but does she have even more cause for concern?

Sarah to die following false pregnancy, new Emmerdale fan theory predicts

Writing on X as last night’s episode aired, a new fan theory emerged – suggesting that Sarah’s life might be in danger.

“Has the false positive got anything to do with her illness? Sarah is going to be Charles next customer,” predicted one fan, referencing the recent spate of funerals in the village.

“Is this Sarah or Debbie?” asked another, sharing an image of Cain weeping over a mystery grave, from this year’s still-to-play-out flashforward.

What’s wrong with Sarah? A brief history of her medical issues

Sarah was only six when she was diagnosed with fanconi anemia. This rare blood disorder causes bone marrow failure and means that Sarah has a much shorter life expectancy than most.

More recent health issues included Sarah’s diagnosis with throat cancer in 2017 and heart failure the following year. Sarah weathered both, thanks to extensive treatment and a heart transplant.

However, her underlying health issues could re-emerge at any time – as Sarah is all-too aware.

  • Ross’ return has been a letdown, fans blast – 5 things soap can do to put him back on top

Ross’ return has been a letdown, fans blast – 5 things soap can do to put him back on top

Fans of Emmerdale have been feeling let down by the return of Ross Barton to the soap. His returning to the Dales last year was billed as something as a big deal, exploding back onto the scene as Billy got himself tied up in an underground bareknuckle boxing ring.

Since coming back, Ross has found himself at the heart of April Windsor’s story – rescuing her when she was kidnapped by gangster Jade, telling her the truth about her mum’s death, and pitching in to hep with the search when she disappeared.

He’s also acted as muscle for Charity, kidnapping Joe to get to the bottom of what he was up to with Noah – locking him up in a barn where he almost died. Ross is never far away from the action but still, some fans have been underwhelmed.

‘What’s the point in Ross?’ ask Emmerdale fans amid underwhelming return

Writing on a Reddit thread as Ross’s latest scenes aired, fans debated the merit of his return. And some were wondering whether it was failing to live up to the initial potential.

“Is anyone enjoying this guy being back?? I wasn’t watching when he was originally in it and I know he’s got quite the history but I don’t find him interesting or even likeable at all. He pretty much comes off as dumb thug and I don’t get what the plan is for the character as he’s just done a bunch of random things and helped out with the April crisis,” asked one fan.

“Love him and think he’s good fun. Just wish he had more to do,” said another.

“The character is there for eye candy plain and simple. the character has middle child syndrome and the emotional stuff I really don’t care or honestly buy it,” another agreed.

But how do we solve a problem like Ross?

Ross talks to April at Donna's graveside
His friendship with April is sweet, but Ross has more than just April in the village (Credit: ITV)

What should Ross Barton do next on Emmerdale?

    1. Spend more time with his family

It’s easy to forget that Ross is related to Moira – being her nephew-in-law via blood uncle John Barton. If his touching relationship with April has been anything to go by, his supportive and tender side is just as interesting as his badboy antics. So give him some scenes with Matty, for example, or let him be more present in Moira’s life.

    2. Be a father to Moses

Similarly, Ross hasn’t been much of a presence in son Moses’s life lately – unless you count beating up the kid’s other father figure, Mack. Now that he’s sticking around, it would be good to see Ross make an effort with his son, showing some of the fatherly side he previously demonstrated with April.

    Ross and Rebecca get together

    3. Mourn Rebecca… properly

Fans were shocked to learn that, during their absence from the village, Rebecca had died during routine surgery. Since coming back, Ross hasn’t really opened up about how Rebecca’s death has affected him.

Granted, they had broken up by the time she died. But with his ex dead and Seb having been shipped off to a mystery aunt, there’s still some unresolved business there, and questions which need to be answered.

    4. Ross should set up ties in the village, Emmerdale fans insist

Bare knuckle boxing and stealing vans from the depot aside, what does Ross do for work? He’s now a 35-year-old man, so should probably start thinking about getting a real job at some point. The whole bad boy routine has a limited shelf life – and even Cain Dingle had to calm down at some point.

“I don’t understand why he’s not working at the garage as I’m sure he’s a mechanic and the garage is called, “Dingle Barton,” because he received a share of it after Debbie’s acid attack,” one fan pointed out, in the same Reddit thread.

    Steph surprised Ross (Credit: ITV)

    5. Give Steph the elbow

Both arriving in the village at roughly the same time, Ross soon hit it off with spoiled Miligan offspring Steph. While they make for a good-looking couple, one can’t help but wonder whether he could do better.

With some fans clamouring for Ross and Charity to rekindle their romance (if you could call it that), their explosive back-and-forth could give Ross some of the purpose he so needs.

Who would you like to see Ross with?

  • Emmerdale writer behind Tom and Belle abuse storyline tried to ‘suffocate’ real-life girlfriend

Emmerdale writer behind Tom and Belle abuse storyline tried to ‘suffocate’ real-life girlfriend

Emmerdale bosses have said they are “shocked and appalled” after a former writer on the show appeared in court, having admitted assaulting his partner.

Martin Fustes pleaded guilty to the assault of his girlfriend, causing actual bodily harm, and an offence of intentional suffocation, which took place at the family home on January 27.

    Emmerdale writer prosecuted

Samantha Laws, prosecuting, told Hull Crown Court that the couple had been together for about 13 years at the time and were living with their children near Hull.

She said a row broke out between them when the couple were getting ready for bed. Fustes became verbally abusive and poked and prodded his girlfriend in the face and upper body with his fingers, keys and a vape. He also spat in her face.

Miss Laws added that Fustes stopped his girlfriend from leaving the bedroom and put both hands around her neck two or three times. Fustes also wrapped the woman’s dressing gown hood around her neck and dragged her back to the bed.

“He was repeatedly shoving and pushing her back to the bed,” Miss Laws told the court. “She attempted to escape. He placed his hands over her mouth and nose and stopped her ability to breathe. She could see stars.”

Miss Laws continued that the woman was able to escape through the front door of the house. “She began to run to the local police station but he quickly caught up with her and pleaded with her to return.” The woman did go home where there was more arguing and abuse.

The woman claimed in court that this assault was the culmination of more than 10 years of abuse. She said: “I thought I was going to die. I had no other option but to escape and run down the street.”

    “A serious incident”

In mitigation, Connor Stuart, said it was “a serious but isolated incident”. He said Fustes had no previous convictions and he had shown some degree of insight. “He has shown genuine remorse,” said Mr Stuart. “This is the last time that he will trouble these courts.”

According to IMDB, Fustes has written for Emmerdale since 2006. This also means he’s been involved in the recent storyline surrounding Belle Dingle‘s torment at the hands of her abusive husband, Tom King.

Fustes no longer writes for Emmerdale

“We were shocked and appalled to learn about the recent court case involving Emmerdale writer, Martin Fustes,” a spokesperson for Emmerdale/ITV said.

“Mr Fustes is a freelance writer. He has been informed that he will no longer be writing for Emmerdale. Everyone at ITV and Emmerdale abhors domestic abuse, which is why we have been highlighting the issue in a major storyline over the last 12 months.

“The Emmerdale production team were not aware of these charges against Mr Fustes until we were alerted over the weekend.”
