Emmerdale spoilers: Ross threatens Joe as Charity worries about Joe’s return

In Emmerdale spoilers, Ross Barton threatens Joe Tate after Charity grows worried about how close he is growing to Noah. This comes following Joe’s unexpected return to the village – quickly making himself back at home and determined to build bridges with his family.

Noah is, of course, Joe’s half-brother. The pair share a father in the late Chris Tate, but haven’t had much of a relationship, between Joe’s scheming and his lengthy absence from the village. All that is set to change, however, as Joe attempts to build bridges with Noah by offering an ostentatious gift.

Perturbed by Joe’s attempts to worm his way back into Noah’s life, Charity demands that Ross have a word. But how will Joe react when Ross attempts to bully him out of seeing Noah again?

Joe tries to build bridges with Noah

Determined to mend his relationship with Noah, Joe offers him a set of VIP tickets to a Leeds match. Seeing how Joe is worming his way back into Noah’s life, Charity isn’t happy.

She speaks to Ross, and asks him to warn Joe off. Ross agrees, and pays Joe a menacing visit…

    Joe continues scheming

Ross’s strong-arming of the situation is successful in warning Joe off, and he backs out of taking Noah to the football match. His half-brother’s inexplicable rejection leaves Noah feeling upset. Meanwhile, Charity is secretly delighted that Ross was successful in warning Joe off.

However, Joe won’t be so easily dissuaded, and it’s not long before he’s plotting his next move. What will Joe do next?

  • 6 of the greatest Emmerdale comebacks – from Kim Tate’s return from the dead to Robert Sugden’s revival

6 of the greatest Emmerdale comebacks – from Kim Tate’s return from the dead to Robert Sugden’s revival

Dramatic comebacks of iconic characters is what all Emmerdale fans live for. Recently, we’ve been treated to the return of Kim’s nemesis Joe Tate – who’s back in the village after a six-year absence.

Joe was unveiled as the mastermind behind Will and Peter’s plot to bring down Kim, and we can’t wait to see what other wicked tricks he’s got up his sleeve.

His perfectly staged return has also got us thinking about the other Emmerdale comebacks that really hit the mark. Here are six characters we were delighted to see back on our screens…

Best Emmerdale comebacks includes Kim Tate

Kim is the queen of the comeback, and one in particular has gone down in Emmerdale history.

It was 1997 when Kim did a disappearing act following the death of her lover Dave Glover. She paid a lookalike to drive her car around the village to make it look as if she was still around. But then the woman was found dead behind the wheel and Frank was charged with ‘Kim’s murder’.

Kim made a spectacular return and confronted Frank in the living room at Home Farm. The shock of seeing her back from the dead caused him to suffer a fatal heart attack. Instead of ringing for an ambulance, Kim just stood over and watched Frank die.

Once she was sure he was gone, Kim calmly pulled out her make-up compact, powdered her nose, then used the mirror to check Frank had stopped breathing. Oh, and she ended up receiving half of Home Farm in Frank’s will. What an icon!

    Aaron Dingle

There was a lot of hype surrounding Danny Miller’s return to Emmerdale in 2014.

After two years away from the soap, would the award-winning actor be able to recapture the magic he’d brought to the role of Aaron first time round? As it turned out, yes!

Aaron returned to stop his best mate Adam getting involved in a robbery with Ross Barton and Donna Windsor. That particular plot was pretty forgettable, but what was to follow was certainly not.

The Emmerdale writers had decided it was time for Aaron to have a new love interest. And just weeks after his comeback, the moody mechanic shared that first forbidden kiss with Robert Sugden. And with that Robron was born!

Robert Sugden makes the list for best Emmerdale comebacks

Robert’s return to Emmerdale in 2014 was another triumph!

The legacy character had been away for five years when the soap announced his return. It was confirmed the role of Robert had been recast, with actor Ryan Hawley taking over from Karl Davies.

Any concern that Rob might have lost his ruthless charm disappeared the moment he reappeared on screen. He was still the same slippery charmer, and had managed to nab himself a millionairess fiancée, Chrissie. Now heir to the Home Farm fortune, Robert took great delight flaunting his wealthy status as he reignited his feud with Andy and Katie

Within weeks it was hard to imagine anyone but Ryan portraying Robert. The character’s addictive love affair with Aaron led to one of the most popular partnerships in all of Soapland.

    Charity Dingle

In 2015 Charity was sentenced to two years in prison for perverting the course of justice. She was released after a year, but when Cain and Moira went to pick her up, they discovered she’d already left.

As it turned out the crafty minx was straight back to her old tricks. Moments after leaving the clink, Charity went on the rob and stole a red Ferrari from a nearby dealership. She took it for a spin, but disaster struck enroute when Charity ploughed the vehicle into a field and got stuck in the mud.

Later that day, Cain and Moira spotted the stolen Ferrari. They were gobsmacked when Charity stepped out, declaring she couldn’t come back from prison with nothing! Moira dealt with the situation by taking the car back to the dealership, while the police were hot on their heels.

But the shocks kept on coming when Charity then entered The Woolpack and declared she’d bought Diane Sugden’s half of the pub! She then blackmailed former lover Ross Barton into coughing up the cash for the purchase.

    Ross Barton

The long-awaited return of the Barton bad boy was one of our 2024 highlights.

Ross was a favourite amongst the fans during his first stint in the Dales and always at the centre of the drama. When news of his return was announced, actor Michael Parr, teased there would be fireworks for his character. And he wasn’t wrong!

During his time away, Ross had turned his hand to bareknuckle boxing and was unveiled as Billy Fletcher’s opponent. Strutting in to whoops and cheers from the crowd, Ross ripped off his sleeveless hoodie to show a rather impressive six pack.

Now that’s how to make an entrance!

Tina turned up at Zak's funeral (Credit: ITV)

    Tina Dingle

Zak Dingle’s funeral on Emmerdale was full of surprises – the biggest one being the comeback of his long lost daughter, Tina.

The character, who was previously played by Jacqueline Pirie, hadn’t been seen in the Dales for 28 years. So you can imagine everyone’s shock when she rocked up at Zak’s graveside. Belle didn’t even recognise her half-sister, which is hardly surprising seeing as they’d never met.

Now played by Brassic star Samantha Power, Tina claimed she was back to pay her respects. But there was an ulterior motive to her return. After causing carnage at the funeral, which resulted in her being carted off by the police, Tina tried to lay claim to Zak’s will.  Then came the bombshell that she was Vinny’s real mum, a secret which she tried to blackmail Mandy with.

She may have wreaked havoc amongst the Dingles, but Tina Mark Two did not get a positive reaction from the fans. They took to social media to voice their disappointment, with some saying the recast was an insult to the original actress.

Samantha has shared she’d be up for Tina coming back to cause more mischief, so let’s see what 2025 has in store.

Emmerdale spoilers: Rhona accused of being behind April’s disappearance as her past is brought up

In Emmerdale spoilers, Rhona is accused of being responsible for the disappearance of April after journalists dredge up her past. This includes her kidnapping baby Ivy last year, for which she was arrested and stood trial.

With April still missing, Marlon and Rhona are already at their wit’s end.

What fresh pain will the dredging up of Rhona’s painful past bring for her and Marlon?

Rhona is haunted by her past

After waking from a horrific dream in which April has died, Marlon is tremendously shaken. However, he manages to mask his upset in front of Rhona.

Later, Vanessa shows Marlon an article on the Hotten Courier website. Rhona is horrified when she learns that her kidnapping baby Ivy is dredged up again, inferring that she might be responsible for April’s disappearance.

Admitting the prospect that April might be dead after all, Marlon is a broken man. Breaking down, he and Rhona weep together.

Marlon takes to the streets in search of April

Rhona receives a message from their police liaison. In Leeds, a desperate Marlon searches the streets attempting to engage passers-by.

Meanwhile, Rhona worries about who might have betrayed her to the press.

Back in Leeds, Ross spots a young girl who looks like April. He rushes off to intercept her – and is shocked when he runs into Ross instead.

Ross defuses Marlon’s initial anger as he tries to keep up his hopes of finding April. However, the pair are surrounded by reminders that April is just one of many missing people in the country…

  • Emmerdale review of the week: We don’t hate Dawn and Joe, Rhona in the spotlight and the Christmas decorations are STILL up

Emmerdale review of the week: We don’t hate Dawn and Joe, Rhona in the spotlight and the Christmas decorations are STILL up

Our Emmerdale review this week is mostly just loads of questions, because there has been a LOT going on, and most of it has left us scratching our heads.

We’ve been left reeling at some of this week’s action and it’s left us looking for answers. Here’s what we thought in our Emmerdale review of the week.

    Dawn angry at Kim
Dawn interrupted Kim’s eulogy to accuse her of murder. (Credit: ITV)

    The madness at Home Farm

Oh, where to start with this? At the beginning of the week Dawn was absolutely convinced that Will had been murdered by Kim. So convinced, in fact, that she stood up at Will’s funeral and accused Kim in front of the handful of mourners who’d bothered to show up. And then she went to the police, who immediately responded by arresting Kim at Will’s grave.

Meanwhile Dawn was even more determined to prove that Kim had murdered Will, so she drugged her with ketamine and screamed at her to admit what she’d done, while Kim hallucinated, then passed out and had a seizure.

And if that wasn’t enough, having realised she was wrong and been let off the hook for drugging her stepmum, Dawn then snogged Joe Tate who she hated about ten minutes earlier. Is it any wonder our heads are spinning?

But here’s the slightly surprising thing about all this craziness – we don’t hate it. Dawn kissing Joe immediately made her at least 500 times more interesting. And we’re quite keen to find out what’s up with Joe, who’s clearly very unwell.

But we said this Emmerdale review was full of questions and we meant it. Like what’s happened to Will’s phone with all those incriminating messages from financial-advisor Peter on it? Come to think of it, where is financial-advisor Peter? Has anyone told Rose that Will is dead?

Is Dawn aware that the ‘bubble’ around Home Farm has well and truly burst and Clemmie and Lucas can probably go back to school now? And most importantly, will anyone ever take down the Christmas decorations?

Could Steph be pregnant with Ross' baby?
Time to grow up, Steph? (Credit: ITV)

    Steph is 32!

We know Steph is 32 because she just had her birthday. It lasted two days. Everyone made a big old fuss about it.

But somehow Steph being 32 doesn’t seem to stop her behaving like a sulky, ungrateful teenager. She is so rude to her mother Ruby it makes us cringe, while she stamps her feet if anything doesn’t go her way.

We think it’s time she was sent to her room to think about her behaviour and if things carry on like this, it’ll be no screen time for a week.

Laurel in Emmerdale looking cross (Credit: ITV)
Laurel has had a busy Christmas – apparently (Credit: ITV)

    Where’s the Laurel action?

Laurel’s been up to all sorts recently. Her divorce came through. She thought about having a drink. She did have a drink. Then she called Marlon to help. She made a pass at Marlon… It’s all go in Laurel world.

    Or so we’re told.

Because we’ve not seen any of this. It’s all happened off-screen. I mean, we’re not massively invested in Laurel’s life – not since the whole Charles thing which we’re still recovering from – but it would be nice to see it rather than just hear it second hand. And it’s got to be more exciting than Arthur’s maths homework.

    Marlon making his video
Marlon’s appeal video went viral with awful results (Credit: ITV)

Breaking and entering in our Emmerdale review

April’s still missing and Marlon’s tearful homemade appeal video went viral, attracting horrible comments and even worse, some amateur detectives.

A pair of oddballs distracted Rhona at the vets, broke into the family home and went through April’s stuff, livestreaming their efforts as they went.

It was really quite shocking, but just like the Home Farm madness, it left us with a few questions. Like why Rhona didn’t call the police, and what happened to the cat they left behind.

And why – when we have watched every episode of Emmerdale for decades – did we not know there was a door directly from the vets into the cottage next door? And if we didn’t know, how did the true-crime weirdos?

Thankfully the vloggers legged it, but we’re not convinced they’ve really gone. Because if it’s true crime they’re after, Emmerdale can definitely keep them busy!

If they get a whiff of the skulduggery going on at Home Farm, or Angelica killing Heath, or Belle’s traumatic year, or Charity shooting Chloe’s gangster dad, or Kyle shooting Al, or Kerry and Amy burning down the factory and killing Tracy’s dad, or anything to do with the Fox-Miligans, they’ll be hanging around for the next five years.

Emmerdale spoilers: Wendy’s life falls apart as her exit storyline is revealed

In Emmerdale spoilers for next week, Wendy Posner‘s life implodes as her exit story begins.

It was revealed last month that Susan Cookson, who plays Wendy, had been axed from the soap and already filmed her final scenes.

Her exit storyline has now been revealed as she faces a backlash for betraying her colleague.

Wendy is blackmailed in Emmerdale spoilers

Upcoming scenes see the local media investigating April Windsor’s disappearance. The teen vanished on Christmas Day and was later shown getting into a mystery car. But nothing has been seen of her since.

This week, Marlon records an appeal video, which goes viral. Then next week, the Hotten Courier newspaper get involved and they print a damning article on April’s stepmum Rhona Goskirk.

When the article blows up, the reporter snoops around more and Wendy finds herself being blackmailed. What dirt does the journalist have on Wendy?

    Wendy’s life implodes

Ultimately, Wendy decides to protect herself. But the only way she can do that is to give the journalist some other dirt.

Wendy offers up details of Ella Forster‘s past as a trade to cover up her own misdemeanours.

Last year, Emmerdale revealed that Ella (formally called Ruth) was a child killer. She took the life of her best friend Joanne in a jealous rage when they were both only 11 years old.

However, Ella served time for the crime and has repeatedly tried to turn her life around, but has often had to move due to being exposed.

Following Wendy’s betrayal of her co-worker, she faces a backlash from the other villagers and her life and career look set to implode.

Is this the end of Wendy’s time in the village?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Joe seriously ill as Dawn struggled to keep away from him

In Emmerdale tonight Joe Tate‘s condition is clearly worsening as he collapsed unable to breathe. Meanwhile, Dawn found it hard to keep her distance after their kiss – especially now he’s moved in!

Elsewhere, Sarah succumbed to Jacob’s apology and Rhona and Marlon were broken into.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Friday January 10.

Tension simmered between Dawn and Joe in Emmerdale tonight

    Dawn insisted she loves Billy

Dawn and Billy started yet another day apologising to each other. Honestly, what is the point of them? She then met up with Joe and told him they needed to keep quiet about the kiss. Joe was very understanding and told her it was all fine, no one would find out from him, but he flirtly told her not to pretend that they don’t know it happened. Dawn couldn’t help but smile. This isn’t over.

To cover things, she upped the romance stakes with Billy, telling him he was wonderful, treating him to lunch and holding his hand in public. Steady on their Dawn, this is too much niceness!

    Joe collapsed

When they got home, Kim was back and waiting for Dawn. She had invited Joe to move in, Dawn was obviously uncomfortable and thought Joe had orchestrated it to be near her. Joe denied it and insisted he was a good guy who didn’t want to wreck her family. We’re really warming to him, what is going on?!

Later, Dawn was about to go into Joe’s room, but changed her mind. If she had gone in she would have found Joe collapsed against the bed in a very bad state, shaking and unable to breathe. So what is wrong with Joe?

    Jacob won Sarah back

Jacob was being a sulky teen with Leyla (even though he’s in his 20s) over the Sarah situation. He then went to see Sarah at the garage and tried to explain himself. Sarah, understandably, didn’t want to know.

Jacob later found her again in the pub and this time Sarah did give him the time of day. Leyla had been fighting Jacob’s corner and Sarah kissed him as they decided to give it (another) go.

Marlon and Rhona broken in to in Emmerdale tonight

Marlon was still torturing himself over the trolling. Rhona went back to work for a few hours of normality and was presented with a cat who wasn’t actually ill. She was distracted by a commotion outside and the pet owner let herself into Rhona’s house, filming it.

The women went into April’s room and went through her stuff, livestreaming it. When Rhona caught her, she shoved the phone in her face questioning her and Rhona lost it, throwing them out.

Marlon rushed home, but they didn’t call the police, which is odd because we absolutely would have done.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

Arthur was sulking in the cafe over how hard his homework is. Anthony overheard and stepped to help as Laurel and Nicola swooned over him being a homework hero. Laurel couldn’t get her head out of the gutter when Nicola suggested Laurel ask Anthony how much he charged. But it turned out she just meant for tutoring. Although Laurel needn’t have looked so aghast, it’s not like she hasn’t slept with most men in the village!

They then arranged for him to tutor both Arthur and Angel and he told them he loved helping young people. Yuck, shivers down our spine.

  • ‘Classic Kim would never tolerate this:’ Kim’s letting Dawn win in Emmerdale and it’s not on

‘Classic Kim would never tolerate this:’ Kim’s letting Dawn win in Emmerdale and it’s not on

Kim Tate has drawn criticism from Emmerdale fans who are convinced that the character would never have stood for Dawn Fletcher and her scheming – ketamine or no ketamine.

In last night’s episode (Thursday, January 9), Kim fell victim to Dawn’s plot to get her to tell ‘the truth’ about Will’s dead. Drugged out on ketamine, Kim saw visions of Will, and admitted that, while she could have moved faster, she hadn’t killed him.

Kim hospitalised as Dawn drugs her

Kim was saved by Joe, who walked in to find Kim in a state, and Dawn asking her questions. As Kim suffered a seizure, the pair called an ambulance and she was rushed to hospital.

There she made amends with Dawn, who finally seemed to believe her claims that she’d had nothing to do with Will’s death.

But why is Kim standing for Dawn’s manipulation anyway?

The ‘old’ Kim Tate wouldn’t have stood for Dawn, Emmerdale fans remember

Writing on X as these scenes aired, viewers shared their dismay at the sight of Kim turning into a pushover at the machinations of Dawn.

“Why have you turned Kim Tate into such a pathetic wimp? The old Kim would have chucked Dismal Dawn out of her house,” asserted one fan.

“The old Kim would never tolerate this nonsense!!” another said.

“Classic Kim would never tolerate this,” concurred a third.

“Our home? Your home Kim. She’s just the freeloader. Kim of ‘old’ would never give her another chance though pity for Dawn Kim has this against her,” another said.

Has Kim become a pushover – or does she have something up her sleeve?

  • As Dawn betrays Billy with Joe Tate, is any couple safe from the cheating curse?

As Dawn betrays Billy with Joe Tate, is any couple safe from the cheating curse?

Last night’s episode of Emmerdale saw Dawn betray husband Billy by kissing Joe Tate. This came after a busy day for Dawn, who had drugged Kim Tate with ketamine in the hope of making her confess to Will’s murder.

However, Dawn’s plan didn’t work out as planned, and Kim remained steadfast in her innocence. She then suffered a seizure from the overdose, and a panicked Joe called an ambulance.

Thankfully, Kim seemed to make a full recovery, and the pair buried the hatchet in the hospital. Back at Home Farm, Dawn and Joe shared a moment on the sofa – and then a kiss.

With another affair seemingly set to rock the dales, we ask… is any couple safe?

Joe and Dawn kiss on Emmerdale

Is any couple safe as Dawn and Joe kiss destroys another Emmerdale couple

Dawn’s betrayal of Billy comes only months after Cain and Ruby appalled a nation by sleeping together. Fans were left horrified by scenes in which Cain cheated on Moira while she lay in hospital.

Neither Moira nor Caleb are aware of Cain and Ruby’s betrayal yet, but it’s surely only a matter of time. Elsewhere, Doctor Liam picked Chas over Ella – only days after rekindling their romance – and Rhona felt betrayed when she learned that Laurel had attempted to kiss Marlon.

Other couples are still going strong – Paddy and Mandy, and Charity and Mack, for example, but given their histories, can we trust history not to repeat? Especially with fans clamouring for Ross and Charity to become a thing.

There’s always the newly loved-up John and Aaron… but with viewers holding out for a Robron reunion, we wouldn’t necessarily expect that one to last either.

Sam and Lydia, then… it’s all on you two.

Emmerdale viewers share dismay at ‘repetitive’ cheating storylines

Writing on X as the scenes aired, viewers shared their thoughts on Joe and Dawn‘s kiss. And many have had enough of it all.

“Meanwhile over in Emmerdale, we have another scandal! All this soap does is make people cheat,” wrote one viewer.

“And we have more cheating in Emmerdale,” said another.

“Here we go with the joe Dawn affair then,” sighed a third.

    Is enough enough?

Joe and Dawn kiss and Emmerdale viewers slam ‘predictable’ plot

Lat night’s episode of Emmerdale saw Dawn Fletcher and Joe Tate finally give in to inevitability with a kiss. This not-so-shocking turn of events came after Dawn drugged his mum with ketamine in the hope of inducing a confession from Kim.

Convinced that Kim was behind Will’s death, Dawn spiked her morning cup of coffee and demanded answers. However, even under the influence – and seeing visions of dead hubby Will – Kim stuck to her story.

It was then that Joe walked in, finding Kim in a state and Dawn acting suspiciously.

Joe rushed Kim to hospital, where she made a quick recovery – and both covered for Dawn. Having apparently accepted Kim’s innocence, Dawn made her peace and agreed to let the whole murder accusation thing go.

Back at home (farm), Joe and Dawn shared a moment on the sofa… and then a kiss. Dawn pulled back and Joe assured her that it was okay, but it’s clear that there’s unfinished business between the pair.

Emmerdale fans despair at Joe and Dawn kiss

Reacting to the kiss on social media, fans shared their thoughts on Joe and Dawn. And nobody was surprised.

“Could’ve seen Dawn kissing Joe from 20 miles off,” wrote one dismayed fan.

“Dawn /Joe so predictable. Come on team you’re better than this,” said another.

“Dawn kissing joe was so obvious to happen,” a third wrote.

“So predictable they were going to kiss,” said a fourth.

Their hook-up may have been on the cards from the start, but where this relationship is headed is anyone’s guess.
