What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Ruby confessed to Chas and Marlon revealed what had happened with Laurel

Ruby Fox-Miligan made a confession to Chas Dingle in Emmerdale tonight that left her sister-in-law shocked. Ruby then decided to take action, but will it bring peace?

Meanwhile, Rhona confronted Marlon who finally revealed what his mystery texts with Laurel were about.

Here’s all that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Friday January 3.

Ruby broke her silence in Emmerdale tonight

Chas has noticed something isn’t right with Ruby. Ruby was trying to make amends with Steph after the birthday debacle, but Steph was not forgiving her at all and wanted to exchange all the birthday gifts Ruby got her. Meanwhile, Anthony played the doting father and grandfather and fought Ruby’s corner with Steph.

Anthony was rubbing it in Ruby’s face, so Ruby got drunk. She went to go searching for April with Chas, but Chas wouldn’t go with a drunk Ruby. Ruby made some comments about protecting Steph and Chas decided to get to the bottom of it all, especially when Ruby said she’d kept something hidden for over 30 years.

Ruby then broke down and confessed Caleb might not be Steph’s dad. She stopped short of revealing who the dad might be, but Chas realised Ruby had been forced and it wasn’t consensual. She encouraged Ruby to fight for justice. Ruby couldn’t bring herself to and insisted she had to keep it hidden, however later she ordered a DNA test kit to find out once and for all who Steph’s dad is.

    Rhona was hurt

Marlon and Rhona were arguing over April as Rhona tried to tidy up the Christmas presents. She then confronted him over keeping secrets with Laurel.

Marlon confessed Laurel had been drinking again and called him to pick her up from a bar. He helped her stop, but she tried to kiss him and despite him saying it was nothing, Rhona told him he kept a secret from her and that’s what mattered. He insisted it shouldn’t matter as the bigger picture was about April, but Rhona told him she mattered too.

    Dawn still hates Joe

Joe has Kim wrapped round her finger who seems to truly believe he is here to support her as family. Dawn is still suspicious of him though. Kim invited Joe to Will’s funeral, but Dawn later insisted he was not welcome. He accused Dawn of being a parasite and she went to hit him, just as Kim walked in.

Jacob couldn’t deal with his stress

Sarah’s still feeling sorry for herself over Jacob and he was really feeling the pressure. He sped into the village after his shift and nearly mowed down Manpreet. Vanessa gave him a lecture, but Manpreet was more understanding and talked to Jacob about his shift. She advised him to find some coping mechanisms – so he decided to take a leaf out of Ruby’s book and get wasted. Probably wasn’t quite what Manpreet had in mind!

  • Sarah is dead in flashforward that saw Cain crying over a grave, new fan theory predicts

Sarah is dead in flashforward that saw Cain crying over a grave, new fan theory predicts

A new fan theory suggests Sarah Sugden could be at risk in Emmerdale. As the clock hit midnight on New Year’s Eve in the village, we were treated to a number of flashforwards that will take place this year. And more than one of them hinted at an Emmerdale death.

In one of the scenes, Cain was standing over a fresh grave crying, visibly heartbroken at losing whoever was buried there.

But while we literally have no idea about the who, what, when and how, all we can do is hope that our favourites are safe. As it looks like anybody could be taken away from us.

Sarah has been growing close to Jacob. (Credit: ITV)

    Could Sarah die in Emmerdale?

Right now all we have to go on is our own theories. And one of them suggests Sarah Sugden is the Emmerdale death.

Sarah has a heart condition which has taken centre stage in the show on numerous occasions. But when she got a transplant, she faded from the storylines.

Now, she’s back in the show quite frequently, and this alone was enough to get viewers suspicious of the show’s intentions.

Quite spontaneously Sarah also began having feelings for Jacob, and while it’s not been smooth sailing, the pair do evidently like each other.

Then in last night’s episode (January 2), during Jacob’s first day on A&E placement, Charity rushed Sarah into the hospital as she collapsed due to excessive drinking. Which wasn’t the smartest decision considering her health issues.

One fan shared their theory that Sarah could die on X (formerly Twitter).

They wrote: “I still think Sarah could be the one in the grave that Cain is crying beside in the flashforward. It’s so random that she has not been on the scene for ages. Then all of a sudden she is there and drinking to block out her pain.”

If Sarah keeps drinking to try and get rid of her feelings, then she could end up causing damage to herself and risks her heart condition getting worse again.

If Sarah was the Emmerdale death then this would have huge ramifications for quite a lot of people in the village. And it would make complete sense as to why Cain looked so distraught in the flashforward.

    Emmerdale death theories

While some may think Emmerdale wouldn’t kill a younger character, it was only one year ago they did exactly that to Heath Hope. And since then, the younger cast members have been stealing the spotlight.

If making an impact is what Emmerdale is going for, then killing off a character from the show’s most popular family is certainly a way to do just that.

However, right now it’s just speculation. Other names that fans are considering include Moira because of her current brain tumour story. And some are holding onto the theory that Nate was murdered and his body is hidden somewhere – so could it be him?

We just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

  • Emmerdale fans ‘work out’ Henry Moore’s link to John Sugden

Emmerdale fans ‘work out’ Henry Moore’s link to John Sugden

Fans think they have worked out a connection between Henry Moore and one of the villagers in a new Emmerdale theory – John Sugden.

Last night’s visit to Emmerdale (January 2) saw a standalone episode which focused on Jacob’s first day at his A&E placement. And things did not go well.

But one person who was there to give him some advice was patient Henry Moore. The elderly man was a regular in the hospital, and while he waited to be seen, he made friends with some of the villagers.

Henry and Cain bonded at the hospital
Henry’s similarities to Zak were evident when speaking to Cain. (Credit: ITV)

Jacob met Henry Moore during his placement

It wasn’t only Jacob that Henry bonded with in the hospital, as he also connected with Cain. Perhaps due to the similarities between himself and Zak.

Henry told Jacob that his daughter Anita had dropped him off, but that he didn’t want to bother her. And then continued to talk about her.

In a heartbreaking twist, Henry died while Jacob went to get him a drink. And as it turned out, none of the stories he had been telling the trainee doctor about his daughter were true.

But one thing many fans did pick up on was his full name; Henry Moore.

Why is this interesting? Well because John Sugden was connected to an Aidan Moore, someone he has spent a whole lot of time mourning.

    John Sugden Emmerdale
Emmerdale theory suggests Henry could have a connection to John. (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale theory suggests Henry has a connection to John

He recently told Aaron that he loved Aidan and blamed himself for his death. But after the confession fans couldn’t help but feel there was more to it. And some even suggested he could be Aidan himself.

The name could be a coincidence, but small details usually do have a meaning in soaps. Could Henry have been related to Aidan? And if John isn’t really who he says he is, could he hear about Henry’s passing?

Not only do they share the same surname, but Henry’s daughter was called Anita, another name beginning with ‘A’, just like Aidan.

So while Emmerdale were trying to raise more awareness of the everyday struggles that A&E workers face, they could have also been giving us clues that there is more to come in John’s story, just like we all thought.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their theories.

One wrote: “Could Henry Moore be related to the Aidan Moore that John keeps mourning over??”

Another added: “Wonder if ‘Henry Moore’ is related to this Aidan Moore than John was attached too…”

It will be interesting to see if there is a connection between the characters or if it was merely a random coincidence. But as we want to learn more about John this year, we can hope there is something to it.

  • Emmerdale fans spot huge blunder as Moira becomes Jacob’s biggest fan on social media

Emmerdale fans spot huge blunder as Moira becomes Jacob’s biggest fan on social media

Last night’s episode of Emmerdale saw numerous villagers take a trip to A&E during Jacob’s first day on his placement. But as Moira was showing him support, fans noticed one big blunder.

At the start of the episode of Emmerdale, Moira saw Jacob at the hospital and got excited at the thought of him starting his placement.

Then not long later, when she was on her phone, she showed Cain a photo that the student doctor put on his social media.

    Emmerdale Moira and Jacob blunder

But eagle-eyed viewers noticed she was actually logged in as Jacob, not just viewing his profile.

This editing blunder was noticed by many fans, and it’s safe to say they found it both annoying and amusing.

Speaking about the mistake on a Reddit thread, one fan wrote: “Moira, at the start of the episode is on her profile looking at Jacob’s post. But she also seems to be logged in as him. I sure hope somebody got fired for that blunder.”

Another fan joked: “She liked his new photo so much she made it her own profile picture.”

While editing mistakes like this aren’t out of the ordinary, especially when phones are involved, it was a very easy thing to spot.

And since there was a focus on the fact Moira was even following Jacob in the first place – have we ever seen them interact? – the visual editors probably should have double checked that one.

Aside from the blunder, others question why she was so excited for him, as they don’t ever interact in the village.

Why does Moira even follow Jacob?

One jokingly wrote: “How many times have we seen Moira and Jacob on screen at the same time? They could be the same person.”

Others took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their confusion over their new bond.

A viewer wrote: “Since when did Cain and Moira notice Jacob existed let alone talk about him so much?”

While we have never really seen their friendship on screen, Moira told Cain she followed Jacob on social media because son Kyle does and she likes to keep track.

Emmerdale last night: ‘Brilliantly realistic’ or a ‘low-rent Casualty’ – fans in huge debate over Jacob standalone episode

In last night’s Emmerdale episode (January 2), the show once again provided a unique standalone episode following Jacob Gallagher’s first day at his A&E placement.

While he was initially excited for the experience. His first day quickly turned into hell as he made a huge mess-up.

Things kept getting progressively worse for Jacob, and by the end of the episode he looked like he had been there for more than one day.

While Emmerdale was trying to highlight the importance of A&E workers, along with the stress on the healthcare system. The response seems to be divided.

    Jacob Emmerdale episode was ‘realistic’

On one side of things fans praised the storytelling for how realistic it was. The A&E department was busy and chaotic – similar to the real life situations.

Fans praised the Emmerdale episode in the comments of their Instagram post.

One wrote: “It was very realistic! I’m an ex-nurse and saw this on the A&E wards with my own eyes. It’s a very stressful job.”

Another added: “It was an emotional episode today. Seeing it from different people’s eyes, who are all going through difficult times. Well done Emmerdale.”

A third viewer praised: “What a rollercoaster. Brilliant writing, acting and production.”

However, not everybody appeared to share the same thought process, as many others thought the episode didn’t actually need to happen.

    Fans slam ‘low-rate Casualty episode’

After Jacob made the huge error of telling Marlon and Rhona that the teenage stab victim was April even though he didn’t see her, his boss gave him some harsh words – right in front of everyone else.

Viewers felt that wasn’t necessary and while he deserved to be told off, it should have happened in private.

A viewer commented: “I could have written this. Knew it wasn’t going to be April and the old guy was going to die. This was like a really low-rate Casualty episode.”

Others seemed to agree with this view. Another added: “That nurse would have been reported immediately. Mistakes happen and they are learned from. Damaging the confidence of a starter is not the way to go.”

A third simply wrote: “This episode was unnecessary and boring.”

While it may have gotten mixed reviews from the viewers, it seems the Emmerdale episode certainly got people talking.

  • 4 Emmerdale spoilers for tonight: Marlon and Rhona argue and Jacob is stressed

4 Emmerdale spoilers for tonight: Marlon and Rhona argue and Jacob is stressed

In Emmerdale spoilers for tonight things get heated between Marlon and Rhona as the search for April continues.

Elsewhere Chas starts to have questions for Ruby, and Jacob feels the pressure.

All of this and more in Emmerdale spoilers for tonight.

    1. Chas has questions in Emmerdale spoilers for tonight

When evil Anthony arrived in the village, Ruby immediately began to spiral. And after the revelation that he sexually abused her as a child, things have only gotten worse.

But her behaviour hasn’t been as subtle as she wanted. Other villagers, including Cain and Moira have already began to have their own suspicions. But tonight it’s her sister-in-law Chas that wants answers.

Chas worries about Ruby’s drinking habits, along with her constant irritated attitude, and so she tries to piece it together.

    2. Ruby gives answers

Chas’ suspicions lead her to questioning Ruby herself. And while so far Ruby has remained quiet, it seems Chas is the one to break through.

After some grilling, Ruby actually breaks her silence. But what exactly has she told Chas? Was it about her past with her dad? Or is another villager now in on her and Cain’s secret?

Emmerdale spoilers see Jacob’s stress continue. (Credit: ITV)

    3. Jacob’s stress continues

Last night’s episode saw Jacob have the worst start to his A&E placement. When a teenage stab victim came in with April’s purse, Jacob called in Marlon and Rhona, after wrongly believing it was her.

Then he was faced with a drunk Sarah, and things didn’t go down well between them. And to make matters worse, Henry, a patient, died while he was on shift.

After some tough words from his superior on shift, he ended the day with some advice.

But in Emmerdale spoilers for tonight, it seems last night’s events weren’t the ending of his woes. Now, concerned about what Marlon and Rhona will choose to do, and about his relationship with Sarah, in tonight’s episode his stress continues.

    4. Marlon and Rhona get heated in Emmerdale spoilers

At the end of yesterday’s episode, Rhona saw a text from Laurel to Marlon thanking him for keeping quiet about them. So it’s safe to assume she will have questions.

Spoilers suggest the pair get into an argument tonight, has Rhona asked him about the text?

Or have they disagreed over how to handle the Jacob situation? Either way, things don’t sound good.

While we have no idea what the texts are about, we do have some theories.

What has happened to April in Emmerdale: 8 theories from Anthony kidnap to Scott Windsor return

April Windor is not dead in Emmerdale – as far as we know – after a stabbing victim was wrongly identified as her. But that means Marlon is no closer to finding his missing daughter. So where is she?

As more and more comes out about April’s secret life including drinking, taking drugs and a private social media profile featuring worrying videos, fans are speculating exactly what has happened to her.

Has she run away? Was she taken? Where is April and is she safe?

Here’s the top theories over what has happened to April in Emmerdale.

April has been missing for over a week (Credit: ITV)

April Windsor goes missing in Emmerdale

After a difficult few weeks, April went missing from her home on Christmas Day 2024. April had recently been kidnapped and dangled over a car park roof and then discovered the truth about how her mother Donna Windsor died. Her behaviour worsened and she has been bunking off school and drinking alcohol.

Her dad Marlon struggled to cope and prior to his daughter going missing, he snapped at her, telling her he wished she’d just fade into the background. On Christmas Day morning, Marlon went to wake April, only to discover that she wasn’t there. She was later seen waiting for a mystery person before climbing into the back of a car. There has been no sign of her since.

Emmerdale has confirmed that the story will run for weeks, with show producer Laura Shaw saying: “In the coming weeks, as the search for April intensifies, we explore the emotional turmoil a family faces when a young person goes missing. We are so grateful to the charity Missing People for their invaluable help and support with this storyline.”

But is April missing out of choice or has someone taken her?

Theories on missing April in Emmerdale

Anthony now has even more of a hold over Ruby (Credit: ITV)
Does slimey Anthony have April? (Credit: ITV)

    1. Anthony Fox has taken her

At the end of last year a special flashback episode revealed that Anthony sexually abused his daughter Ruby when she was a teenager. With this in mind, a theory has predicted that Anthony is to blame for teen April’s disappearance.

“Ruby’s dad the creepiest person, was that his car picking up April?” asked one viewer on X. “Anthony has got April!” another fan agreed.

Over on Facebook, a third fan said: “I’m wondering if April accepted a lift from a stranger or did she know the person, I thought it looked like Ruby’s dad from behind.”

A fourth fan agreed, writing: “Yeah it deffo looked like Ruby’s dad…”, while a fifth asked: “Why do I have a feeling Ruby’s dad is involved in April disappearance.”

    2. She’s with half-brother Scott Windsor

April’s mum, Donna, and Scott were half-siblings, both sharing the same mother, Viv Hope. Although Scott left years ago, he is often mentioned and Cathy Hope has been to stay with him recently.

However he doesn’t seem to have much to do with neice April. But could that all have changed? Fans are certainly hoping so!

“Please say April has gone to stay with Scott or Kelly and we will get a return from one of them one day,” said one.

Another queried: “I wonder if Scott picked up April last night?”

“Anyone checked with Kelly and Scott??” asked one more.

    3. Has April been groomed?

As some viewers think Anthony has taken her, others aren’t pointing the finger at him specifically, but do wonder if she’s been groomed by someone on the internet and has been taken by them.

Reckon April has been groomed. Thoughts?” shared one on social media.

    4. She’s pregnant

Another theory doing the rounds is that April is pregnant and has run away to be with the dad. It was discovered she had been prescribed the contraceptive pill (which is used to stop pregnancy, but can be inaffective) and now there is speculation she is with child.

“Is April going to turn out to be pregnant then?” asked one.

    5. Has April run away in Emmerdale due to Marlon and Laurel’s ‘affair’?

Something is going on between Marlon and Laurel and April knew about it. She had seen their mysterious texts to each other and thought they were having an affair. Marlon is convinced this is the reason she has gone. But is it really that simple? And are Laurel and Marlon actually having an affair? We think not!

    6. Does April have a secret life in Emmerdale?

Some fans think the discoveries we’re recently made about April are just the tip of the iceberg. So could she have a complete secret life?

One viewer thinks she could be working as an escort: “I think her secret life could be working as a prostitute or an escort that could explain the car picking her up as she got in the back of it.”

    7. A mental health crisis

It’s clear April is a very troubled young lady, but could she be having a mental health crisis?

“It could be something to do with mental health as birth control pills can be used to help with anxiety and depression,” said one fan, adding: “She could have PTSD or dissociative identity disorder which causes people to have a secret life.”

    8. Does Rhona know something about missing April in Emmerdale?

One fan is convinced Rhona knows more than she’s letting on about April. They commented: “Rhona seems very suspicious in all this.” Although others disagreed, someone else added they thought Rhona had called the car to collect April. Colour us intrigued.

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Heartbreaking news about April as Jacob suffered the worst first day ever

Emmerdale tonight aired a dramatic standalone episode featuring Jacob’s first day in A&E and he messed up big time when he thought April had been stabbed.

Meanwhile, Sarah and Moira both found themselves at the hospital too leaving Jacob with all sorts of fires to fight.

Here’s all that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Thursday January 2, 2025.

Jacob’s first day quickly went wrong

Jacob met Dr Todd on his first day in A&E as he excitedly posted selfies from outside the hospital.

Things soon took a dramatic turn when a teenage stab victim was brought in and April’s bank card and purse was found on her. Jacob immediately called Marlon, who raced to the hospital desperate for news.

Jacob was in serious trouble for calling the family, Dr Todd was fuming. Despite his protestations the doctor did not want to hear it, though she allowed Jacob into the relatives’ room when she spoke to Marlon and Rhona, revealing ‘April’s’ condition was serious.

Anna arrived and told them they thought it was a street robbery gone wrong, but she intimated that April could have started it, sparking Marlon’s anger once more.

The stab victim didn’t make it

Jacob was devastated as he watched Marlon breakdown when the news was delivered that ‘April’ didn’t make it. Marlon wanted to see the body and the police asked him to make a formal identification. Fortunately it was not April. And although that was a relief, it’s even more heartbreaking for Marlon as he knows his little girl is still out there and now without her bank card or purse. Plus the police think she could be a murderer.

Meanwhile, Henry, an old man who was waiting for treatment and had been talking to Jacob throughout the day, came to offer Jacob some comfort.

It didn’t help when Dr Todd went mad at Jacob for his actions. He was in serious trouble and had broken all sorts of protocals. His future now depends on whether Marlon and Rhona make a complaint against him. Marlon was forgiving of Jacob, but Rhona wanted answers and thought he’d acted irresponsibly.

Henry once again gave Jacob some advice and told him he was a natural and should keep believing in himself. But there was more upset for Jacob later in the day when he found Henry had died.

Distraught Jacob decided this just wasn’t for him and he couldn’t finish the shift. But Dr Todd gave him some much-needed praise and talked him round to come back inside.

Sarah rushed to hospital in Emmerdale tonight

Jacob got a visit from one of his uni mates, but they were interrupted by Charity bringing a very drunk Sarah in. She’d been drinking all afternoon and collapsed as soon as she got into the waiting room. Springing into action, Jacob listened for her pulse and got her in the recovery position.

Dr Todd came along and praised Jacob for his quick-thinking and good work. Sarah was in a bad way, but she regained consciousness. It turned out she had got drunk over feeling rubbish because Jacob keeps going cold on her. Charity tried to bouy her up, but she didn’t want to hear it.

It was up to Jacob to give her some tough love. He told her about the waiting times and the amount of patients needing help and told her to try and do something with her life. She was taken aback, but will it have an affect?

Emotions ran high for Moira in Emmerdale tonight

Moira arrived with Cain for her appointment and discovered what her treatment plan will look like – six weeks of radiotherapy, five days a week. It will be daunting and gruelling. She needed to be fitted for her mask today and will start treatment on January 14. She can’t work and must rest the whole time.

Moira was forced to go in for her mask fitting alone, leaving her emotional. It left us feeling uneasy too seeing what patients undergoing this type of treatment have to go through.

Outside the room, Cain was getting angry with the vending machine, taking his frustration out on it. He encountered Henry and they began to bond. They chatted about Zak, hospitals and illnesses and clearly found a rapport. But then Cain was called away to tend to Sarah.

Moira came out of her fitting, tearful and upset, and even more so when Cain wasn’t there waiting. There is a long road ahead, but we know Moira is strong enough to make it through – or at least we hope she is…

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

    Rhona found out about Laurel

As they were leaving the hospital after finding out it wasn’t April who had died, Marlon was resolute he was going out searching again. Rhona pleaded with him to rest and it caused a row. Marlon’s phone fell out. Rhona picked it up and saw a message from Laurel, thanking him for keeping quiet about them… Uh oh is all we can say to that one.

Emmerdale fan theory: Anthony to get Steph pregnant as he eyes up next victim?

Ruby’s not got a great relationship with her dad Anthony but decided to try and fake building bridges for the sake of her daughter Steph. However, a flashback to Ruby’s 16th birthday revealed all about why she holds such hatred towards him.

In an utterly hard-to-watch twist, it was revealed that Anthony had sexually abused his own daughter, Ruby. Evil, evil man.

Now, he’s managed to find out about Ruby’s fling with Cain after putting pressure on her to spill the beans. And, now Ruby’s worried that he’ll use it against her.

With Anthony showing exactly what he’s capable of, a new fan theory fears that he could soon sexually abuse granddaughter Steph.

After witnessing Ruby push Anthony away from Steph when he was putting a necklace on her, the fan theory suggests that Steph may end up pregnant with her grandfather’s child.

The theory reads: “Knowing Emmerdale, I bet Stephanie becomes pregnant with Anthony the father.”
