What happened in Emmerdale on Thursday March 6: Two emotional funerals, two surprise ‘returns’ and three shocking secrets

It was an emotional episode of Emmerdale on Thursday March 6, as Amy and Leyla’s funerals took place following their tragic deaths in the limo crash last month.

With both funerals taking place at the exact same time (who planned that?!) the villagers had to pick which one to attend. This affected Eric Pollard the most, who said both Amy and Leyla were like daughters to him, but he had to go to Leyla’s funeral in order to be there for grandson Jacob.

Leyla’s voice could be heard throughout the episode and it seems she took several secrets to the grave…

The villagers said goodbye to Leyla

Having planned her own funeral during the height of her addiction, Leyla’s coffin was carried by six hunky pallbearers to the sound of She’s A Lady. Some of the villagers wrongly assumed they’d been hired, but Belle quickly pointed out they were actually “friends” of Leyla’s. Oh-er!

Leyla’s voice was heard saying, “Now that is what I call a Madonna moment. Lifted in the air by six hunks. Granted, I would have preferred it without the coffin, but a girl can’t always have everything.”

Liam read a letter from Leyla, which she had written from a hospital bed while addicted to drugs. She said she hoped he’d never have to read the letter, that hopefully she’d quit that ‘poison’. “But obviously if you’re reading this, that hasn’t happened. I failed. I messed up time and time again,” she said.

Leyla’s voice took over from Liam’s as she praised her son Jacob: “You’re kind and patient. Always there whenever I needed you, parenting me, when it should have been the other way round. Being your mother is a privilege. You have been a privilege.”

At the graveside, Jacob echoed his mum’s word, saying: “You weren’t always the greatest mum, but what you were was my best friend.”

    Amy’s funeral took place

While Leyla’s funeral was fairly traditional, Amy’s funeral was an outside affair. Matty spoke about Amy in the present tense and explained that Amy loves nature.

“I’m talking like Amy is still here. That’s because she is. She’s my soulmate,” he said. Sob! Victoria also spoke about Amy, telling the congregation that Amy was like a sister to her.

Despite it being her daughter’s funeral, Kerry managed to keep it together and took over from Matty when he broke down during the reading.

Cain, Mack, Vinny and Matty carried the coffin as Angels by Robbie Williams played. Maybe Amy would have preferred Leyla’s pallbearers?

    Tracy and Leyla

Tracy’s secret was revealed in Emmerdale Thursday March 6

At the wake in the Woolpack, Eric thanked Tracy Robinson for being a big help and getting him through the day. With guilt written all over her face, it was clear she was hiding something.

We soon became aware of exactly what… A flashback showed Leyla in the shop buying a bottle of fizz. As she handed Tracy the money, Tracy told her she had lipstick on her teeth.

Leyla turned around and checked her face in a mirror. In the mirror, she could see what was going on behind her and spotted Tracy putting the £20 she’d just given her in her bra rather than in the till.

Tracy told a shocked Leyla that she is broke because Nate has disappeared and pays no maintenance. Leyla told Tracy to put the money in the till and gave her another £20. Although grateful, Tracy admitted it wouldn’t touch the surface as she has probably stolen about 2 grand altogether. Will Eric ever discover the truth?

    Mary also has a secret

Continuing to be a rock for Vanessa, privately Mary has been harbouring a secret. As Leyla’s voice spoke the words “It’s not fair how one little mistake can destroy something forever,” another flashback showed Mary and Suzy on the day of the limo crash.

Suzy told Mary she needs to realise how special she is, telling her she is “Funny, wise and gorgeous”. Suzy then shocked Mary by revealing she wasn’t just being kind, it’s how she truly feels.

Suzy admitted that she loved Vanessa, but said “that love… it’s not like what I feel for you”. Leyla then walked in on the two kissing.

In the present day, Vanessa told Mary that she had been planning on proposing to Suzy. Vanessa asked Mary if she thought Suzy would have said yes. Mary lied and said that Vanessa was the one for Suzy. Is this another secret that Leyla has taken to the grave?

    Cain and Matty
    Matty broke down (Credit: ITV)

Cain and Matty fought and made up in Emmerdale Thursday March 6

Still angry at Cain for cheating on his mum, Matty continued to snipe at Cain all day. At the Wake, things came to a head and Matty lashed out at Cain, telling him Amy would be turning in her grave.

The two men moved to the toilets where Cain invited Matty to punch him, but said they had to stop the public animosity in front of Kyle.

Cain went on to say that Matty wouldn’t be allowed to see Kyle if he was in that state. Matty was horrified as he believes Kyle is his only link left to Amy.

The two men soon came to an understanding when Cain said he isn’t the enemy and he visibly moved Matty when he said: “As far as I’m concerned, you are my son.” Matty was later seen bonding with Kyle, as he shared a smile with Cain.

    Leyla Manpreet

Elsewhere in Emmerdale Thursday March 6

Leyla was a busy lady on the day of the limo crash. On top of discovering Tracy and Mary’s secrets, another flashback showed that she also walked in on Manpreet looking at something on her laptop.

Although we didn’t see the screen, a shocked Leyla exclaimed: “Is that you?” before Manpreet quickly shut the computer. In the present day, Manpreet received a text message from an unknown number claiming to know her dirty secret. Just what is Manpreet hiding?

Meanwhile, Sarah did a pregnancy test and it came back positive. But with the funeral going on, she didn’t get a chance to talk to Jacob about it.

  • Fans praise Emmerdale for ‘beautiful’ episode as Leyla and Amy are remembered by grieving loved ones

Fans praise Emmerdale for ‘beautiful’ episode as Leyla and Amy are remembered by grieving loved ones

Leyla Harding and Amy Barton were remembered as Emmerdale aired their funerals last night (Thursday, March 6).

Throughout the episode, Leyla provided a voiceover from beyond the grave, narrating her own funeral. She always was the star of her own show, after all.

Amy was also given a lovely tribute, with her floral funeral being held in the woods. Even Chip the Dog came to pay his respects. And fans have now praised the soap for an ’emotional’ yet ‘beautiful’ episode.

Leyla and Amy’s funeral episode in Emmerdale

Last night saw both Leyla and Amy be laid to rest following their deaths in the recent limo crash. Leyla made sure that she was given a send-off fitting for her personality, narrating her own funeral.

Leyla being Leyla, she’d planned her own funeral, despite only being 40 when she died. She’d instructed for six hunks to carry her gold-painted coffin into the church, with her ex-husband Liam giving quite an awkward eulogy to the previous ‘love of his life’ in front on fiancée Chas.

Meanwhile, in the woods, Amy was given a peaceful send-off herself as Matty teared up during his eulogy. However, tensions between Matty and Cain threatened to ruin the tribute.

Near to the end of the episode, it was then revealed through a series of flashbacks that Leyla had actually taken several secrets of other villagers’ to the grave.

She’d caught Tracy stealing money from the shop, before walking in on Suzy and Mary kissing. And just to add another secret to her belt, she’d also caught Manpreet posting something rather saucy online…

Fans praise soap for ‘beautiful’ tribute to Leyla and Amy

After the unique and rather different episode that aired last night, fans have taken to social media to praise the soap for the scenes.

It’s safe to say that they’ve been left rather satisfied by the ‘beautiful’ tribute to the much-loved, late characters.

One fan commented: “So many beautiful moments – Leyla’s funeral is her down to a tee whilst Amy’s was also beautiful – the flashbacks were interesting as well especially Tracy & Manpreet’s ones.”

Another fan agreed: “What a beautiful send off for Amy and Leyla. Both women took plenty of secrets to the grave with them.”

A third viewer added: “Emmerdale sure know how to do an emotional episode like the one tonight.”

Another person shared: “Just caught up on this now, what a great episode, loved it. The way it was done with Leyla’s monologue throughout, and the secrets and lies….well done all.”

A final viewer finished: “What a fantastic episode of Emmerdale today! A mix of sadness, reflection and revelations all with an honest and heartfelt monologue by Leyla. Not a dry eye, I’m sure! Well done to all involved.”

  • Everything that didn’t make sense about the funerals for the Emmerdale ice stunt victims

Everything that didn’t make sense about the funerals for the Emmerdale ice stunt victims

It’s been a rough few weeks in the village, but the latest Emmerdale funeral news for the limo crash victims is quite strange – even for Emmerdale.

When Leyla, Amy and Suzy all lost their lives in the ice stunt, viewers expected that to be the focus for a while. And for each of them to have the huge funerals that they deserve. But it seems Emmerdale had other ideas.

From missing family members, off-screen funerals and timing arrangements, here is a round-up of every bit of madness surrounding the Emmerdale funerals.

Villagers attend Leyla's funeral in Emmerdale

    Missing characters

When Leyla tragically lost her life, everyone expected David, Alicia or Priya to return to say goodbye to her. Because lets face it, they would not miss her funeral for anything – it doesn’t fit their characters.

However, Jacob revealed to Sarah that none of them are coming, blaming various reasons that they can’t seem to make it back. This revelation outraged viewers, who felt Leyla’s death was being brushed under a rug.

And now, on top of that, Kerry confirmed tonight that Chloe won’t be coming for Amy’s funeral.

Chloe and Amy are sisters, and bonded very closely before Chloe left the village to get away from Mackenzie. But even she would put her differences with him aside to bury her sister – she didn’t even have to bring Reuben along.

Matty upset at Amy's funeral in Emmerdale
Both funerals are on the same day (Credit: ITV) ITV

    Funeral days

In another shocking twist, both Leyla and Amy’s funerals are happening on the same day. And there are quite a few reasons that this is a wild move from Emmerdale.

For starters it immediately doesn’t give them their individual moments. They were two extremely large characters on the show, and by pushing their funerals on one day, the focus is spread too wide. They each deserved their own day to be remembered.

Another reason is that it makes no sense for those who are close with both of them. Their friends have to pick between them, which is a horrible decision for someone to make.

A huge example of this is poor Eric. Leyla was basically family to him, and Amy was like his adoptive daughter. For him to not be able to be at both funerals is a horrible call from Emmerdale. There is no way he would miss either of them, but now he is forced to pick.

    Mary comforts Vanessa in Emmerdale

    Suzy’s off-screen funeral

While Suzy was completely underused in the soap, she was still a part of it. And an off-screen funeral isn’t something she deserved.

However, last week Vanessa confirmed that Suzy’s parents decided they wanted to bury her close to them, away from the village. And Vanessa had no say in any of it – despite being her partner.

She even admitted that inviting Mary along was “pushing it”, which is also a weird decision. Surely Suzy’s family would want anyone who loved her to come and say goodbye, including her Emmerdale friends?

Overall, it feels there is quite a lot wrong with the Emmerdale funerals for three people who deserved something more.

  • Emmerdale: Everything Leyla, Suzy and Amy actors have said about their soap deaths

Emmerdale: Everything Leyla, Suzy and Amy actors have said about their soap deaths

It’s been an emotional time to  be an Emmerdale fan – with last week’s limo crash episodes serving as farewell to Leyla Harding, Suzy Merton and Amy Barton, all in one fell sweep.

With three residents succumbing to a perilous limousine crash on the outskirts of town, viewers were shocked as the soap killed off the women, one after the other.

First up, Suzy. The party planner was killed during the initial impact as the limo crashed onto an ice-covered lake. Next up, Leyla. She had been mortally injured during the crash. She survived long enough for Kerry to pull her for the car, but died in the ambulance on the way to hospital.

Finally, Amy. Poor Amy crashed through the ice (hi Nate) and later died in hospital from the shock. This week, as the village mourns its losses, viewers attempt to come to terms with the death of three major characters.

But what have the actors said about their death scenes?

Suzy was the first to die in Emmerdale limo crash

As the first to die, actress Martelle Edinborough paid tribute to her character in the episode’s aftermath. Writing on X, she said: “And just like that….Suzy is no more and a new chapter begins!! What an ep!”

She continued: “It’s been such a blessing to have been a part of such an iconic show that I grew up on and loved by so many!!”

Martelle followed up with a post to her Instagram account, where she shared a series of images from behind the scenes of the crash.

In the caption, she wrote: “Well what a Week!!! I am not OK! Talk about an emotional rollercoaster!!  Suzy, Leyla, Amy!!”

She continued: “I genuinely haven’t known where to start with this post as there’s so much I want to say and my brain has not been braining so it’s taken a minute. But I’m going to start by saying firstly how beyond blessed and grateful I feel to have been given the chance to bring Suzy Merton to life on your screens!!

“Emmerdale has one of the most incredible fan bases and I can’t tell you how overwhelmed I have been at the amount lovely messages I’ve received this week and for all the love you have shown for Suzy! I did not know she was loved this much to the point you guys had her trending, which I will never get over! Haha but it’s been so beautiful to see so THANK YOU!!!”

In her full statement, she went on to thank the production team and her fellow cast members, thanking the show for having her.

She finished: “Yes, I kept the Orange Coat!”

Leyla killed in Emmerdale limo crash

The soap revealed last year that actress Roxy Shahidi would be leaving the soap after almost 16 years. This led to much speculation among viewers whether she had been killed off, or quit of her own accord.

Last week, she spoke out on an episode of Loose Women, revealing that the decision to kill off Leyla had come as ‘as shock.’

“I genuinely am so excited about a new chapter,” she told the panel.  “That’s what life’s about, isn’t it? You’ve got to do new things, you’ve got to challenge yourself. And, sometimes, when you’re forced to do that, it’s the best thing that can happen. Otherwise you’ll just stay within your comfort zone.”

She continued: “To have been in a show like that for 16 years is such a blessing, it’s something you can’t take for granted. We’re always aware each year, most of us are on yearly contracts so you never know.

“To have done 16 years, I am so grateful, but when I got that call because I kind of knew something was happening… it was a shock. When it’s such an epic story, you know it’s going to happen and I think your job is just to process that, do the best you can, and just keep going.”

    Amy fell through the ice

In the soap’s most shocking death, Amy died while recovering in hospital. As the episode aired, actress Natalie Anne Jamieson thanked fans for their support over the years.

Posting to her Instagram account, she wrote: “Goodbye Amy. I have had the best six years of my life playing this gobby Geordie with a heart of gold! What a way to go – so so proud of the cast and crew who achieved all of this in these last few eps!”

She admitted she has “so many more amazing things to say” about her time on the show. However, she doesn’t have the words yet.

She continued: “For tonight, I just want to say thank you for everything! And thank you to every one of you who came on the journey with me. And for all your beautiful messages you have sent to me.

Natalie Ann Jamieson confirms shock as Amy dies in Emmerdale limo crash

In an interview with The Mirror, she revealed that Amy’s death had come as a shock to her also. “I had been asking for meetings about what was coming up for Amy and saying that I’d really like some challenging, new stuff,” she said.

“They knew they had this coming up and they didn’t have anything planned for Amy – and that was the direction that I wanted to go in. It worked out that this was going to be Amy’s exit and I didn’t know it was going to be death at first.”

She continued: “When they told me, I was like, “Oh!” It’s really hard to know whether you would prefer for your character to die if you’re going, or to go in the back of a taxi.”

  • Matty to leave village after Amy death, new fan theory predicts

Matty to leave village after Amy death, new fan theory predicts

A new Emmerdale fan theory has suggested that Matty Barton could leave the village following the death of wife Amy. Matty was left devastated as Amy died in the aftermath of the limousine crash – succumbing to shock after a dip in a frozen lake.

Amy initially seemed to be on the mend, but the trauma was too great. She died as Matty sat at her bedside, reiterating her love for him as she passed (while also cluing him into Nate’s body in the lake, which he didn’t seem to pick up on).

As of Friday’s episode, Matty was a wreck, sobbing over a picture of Amy in what should have been their home together. With Amy dead and plans for their life together having crumbled, what’s left for Matty in the village?

A new fan theory has predicted that he might leave in the wake of Amy’s death.

Matty to leave the village following Amy death, fan theory predicts

Writing on a Reddit thread, one Emmerdale fan shared their prediction for Matty’s future.

“I  was wondering if Matty would be too traumatized to stay in the village now that Amy is gone. Imagine going back to the house you just rented and planned to start a new and exciting life and now you return there alone. Who can stay there with Matty when everyone is paired off?” this fan wrote.

Others weighed in on the possibility of Matty leaving, with one viewer writing on X: “Bye Amy, now let’s hope Matty leaves the village.”

Elsewhere, others debunked the theory, pointing out that Matty was unlikely to leave with Kyle grieving his mum, and Moira still undergoing treatment after her brain cancer – not to mention dealing with Cain’s cheating bombshell.

“Maybe eventually but for now he will want to be around for Moira and Kyle,” another fan wrote.

“With his mother in the village and his uncle Mackenzie to support him, it’s unlikely that Matty would want to leave Moira. Especially after her surgery and the fallout from Cain’s infidelity. Leaving his stepson Kyle behind would also be difficult for him,” one viewer said.

It seems likely that Matty will be sticking around – but what does his future hold?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Absolute heartbreak as Amy died as Charity searched for answers over Noah

The fallout of the limo ice crash continued in Emmerdale tonight (Thursday, February 20) as Amy Barton died from the shock of her time under the ice-covered lake. Amy suffered a seizure in last night’s episode and, as the soap continued, she ultimately lost her battle for survival.

Elsewhere, as Noah recovered from the drugs in his system, Charity searched for answers. Back in the village, as Moira confronted Ruby, news of her betrayal with Cain began to spread like wildfire.

Meanwhile, beneath the surface of the lake, Nate’s body waited to be found.

Here’s everything that happened on Emmerdale tonight.

    Amy died in Emmerdale tonight

Tonight’s episode began with a flashback of Amy under the water, staring out from beneath the ice. As she floated below the surface, she came face-to-face with the mystery body again. Nate, is that you?

In the hospital, doctors rushed to save Amy’s life, clearing Kerry and Matty out of the room. With Kyle on the way, the doctors informed them that they’d managed to stabilise Amy, although she wasn’t out of the woods just yet.

Cain and Kyle arrived with Amy still unconscious. His mum off having it out with Ruby, Matty was still fuming with Cain, leaving Kyle confused as to why there was such a frosty atmosphere between the two. Come on boys, we’re trying to bring the temperature up in here.

As Kyle begged his mum to pull through, she offered a tentative squeeze of the hand, giving fresh hope that she was on the mend. Sitting vigil while Kerry and Kyle went for a wander, Matty promised her that they’d start work on their family. It was then that Amy very briefly regained consciousness. The first words out of her mouth confirmed what we all suspected to be true: “Nate. In the water.” The last? “I love you.”

She then flatlined, and the limousine crash claimed its third life.

    Charity searched for answers

Charity and Mack sat with Noah, who was still suffering the effects of the drugs in his system. Mack reassured a guilt-ridden Charity that the accident hadn’t been her fault… what was she supposed to do, run over her own son? It was then that Joe swung by for a visit.

Against her better judgement, Charity let him stick around and, as they attempted to make sense of the situation, Mack reminded them that Jacob had been arguing at Leyla earlier in the day – over her accusation that he’d been using coke. Charity headed off in search of answers.

Charity reunited with Sarah, who told her that Jacob wasn’t coping well with the loss. Sarah reassured her that neither Jacob nor Noah had been taking drugs. Learning that Noah had taken a pint intended for Belle, Charity realised that he must have been spiked.

She questioned Chas over Jacob’s new mate Rich. Between medical updates, Charity spilled the village’s hottest gossip – that Cain had slept with Ruby.

The doctor confirmed that Noah had been spiked. As he racked his brains trying to remember what had happened, he suffered visions of another hospital room – with Joe standing over him.

The news continued to spread in Emmerdale tonight

At the Milgan home, Moira continued to have it out with Ruby. She revealed that she knew the whole story about Anthony – what he’d done to her, and what she’d done to him.

That didn’t excuse her of anything, though, and Moira demanded to know how Ruby and Cain could put her through such massive betrayal while she’d been in hospital, fighting for her life.

Caleb arrived home with his takeaway, just as Aaron arrived for a visit. The pair swapped threats as Caleb issued a warning – don’t trust Cain. He then spilled Cain and Ruby’s dirty little secret.

Steph returned home to find her parents looking sheepish and Caleb’s hand bruised. Ruby revealed the news that she’d slept with Cain. She was fuming to discover that their marriage remained solid, and took the opportunity to explode at her mum again.

    The family grieved

In spite of doctors’ best efforts, they were unable to resuscitate Amy, and a devastated Matty was forced to look on as she died before his eyes. Kerry and Kyle returned to grave faces and the heartbreaking news that Amy was gone. In one of the rooms, Cain broke the news to Kyle.

Back at home, Cain informed Moira that Suzy, Leyla and Amy had been killed. She blamed him for her not being there in Matty’s time of need – and reiterated that their marriage was over, save for the kids.

    Jacob lashed out

In the Dingle home, Lydia received a visit from Eric. She’d summoned him to tell him about the car accident, breaking the news that Leyla had died. At the hospital, Pollard comforted a heartbroken Jacob.

(Badly-timed) words of comfort from Kerry weren’t of much use, and he lashed out, accusing the survivors of being more concerned with saving their own skin than Leyla’s. Ouch.

Jacob revealed his regret that Leyla died thinking he hated her, remembering his vitriolic last words. Playing her last message on his phone, Leyla’s final message to her son reverberated, providing some consolation.

    Nate’s watery grave

Feeling guilty about leaving Suzy behind, Vanessa was determined to return to the scene of the crash and be there when her body was recovered.

Back at the crash site, authorities excavated the limo

from the water. Vanessa and Tracy watched as divers searched the water for Suzy’s body.

Beneath the icy water, Nate’s body was finally revealed – wrapped in chains, duct tape and bin-liners. Now how’d you find yourself in a spot like that, Nate?

Liam was on the mend in Emmerdale tonight

Chas eagerly nervously waited for news of Liam’s injury. He was conscious but groggy, having just awoken from a particularly vivid dream about S Club 7.

She reminded him that he’d proposed to her – and revealed that she would have said no, if the car hadn’t crashed.

Nothing like a life-and-death experience to change one’s mind though, as she’d changed her mind and was ready to become Mrs. Chastity Cavanagh.

  • Amy’s death was the wrong move and has destroyed yet another LGBTQ+ couple – OPINION

Amy’s death was the wrong move and has destroyed yet another LGBTQ+ couple – OPINION

Emmerdale shocked us all tonight (Thursday, February 20), as the soap killed another character off, airing Amy Barton’s death.

Amy had started to flatline yesterday but was saved (temporarily), managing to get a few important words out to Matty before passing away.

And, we’re devastated that Amy’s now gone, with this bringing yet another LGBTQ+ soap couple to an end.

    Emmerdale: Amy Barton’s death

When the limo crashed into the frozen lake, Amy followed the path of some of her fellow passengers in a bid to get back onto steady ground.

But sadly, she fell into the ice and was submerged under the water. One of the last things she saw was a dead body under the water – that of Nate Robinson’s.

Being pulled out of the water by Tracy, Amy was rushed to hospital with hypothermia. Then, she started to have a seizure and flatline.

Fortunately, the doctors were able to save Amy just long enough for her to get out the words ‘Nate… in the water.’ But, Matty was too caught up in Amy’s life being on the line to understand what Amy was trying to say.

Then, heartbreakingly, Amy lost her life after reminding Matty that she loved him. Sob.

Opinion: Killing Amy off was a bad move

Amy arrived in the Dales in 2010 and has a very rich history behind her. She’s connected to so many characters and intertwined in so many different families. It’s only now that we realise that she really was the ‘glue’ of the village.

And, now Amy’s gone, the whole village will be impacted in an extremely tragic way. Not only will Matty and the Bartons be heartbroken, we’ve got Kerry who will be in tears, and also Pollard who was once Amy’s foster parent.

Whilst this could make way for many different interesting storylines as a consequence of the grief villagers will face, we’re disappointed that another young woman with so much potential has had her life robbed of her. First Suzy, then Leyla, now Amy…

It was only recently that Amy and Matty talked about wanting to adopt a child. Matty had his concerns, fearing how being a trans parent may affect his child. But, he then came round to the idea.

Now, Amy’s hopes and dreams of expanding her family have been crushed, along with the hope of the soap telling an important storyline which would have been so meaningful for the LGBTQ+ community. And, let’s also note how Amy and Matty only got married in April last year…

They hadn’t even been married a year (Credit: ITV)

Another LGBTQ+ couple bites the dust

We haven’t been given the chance to watch their marriage play out properly, what with Matty spending time in prison shortly after they got hitched. It’s only more recently this year that we’ve started to see what married life looks like for Amy and Matty and how they’ve been there for each other through thick and thin. They deserved more of a chance than they had.

This all adds up to a worrying pattern in soap, with shows having a habit of destroying or killing off LGBTQ+ couples.

In one week alone, we’ve said goodbye to Suzy and Amy. This brought to an end two LGBTQ+ romances in Emmerdale village and along with it much-needed representation on screen. It would be nice to see an LGBTQ+ couple go the distance in Emmerdale – and whilst we got close with Robron and Vanity – we didn’t get close enough. And, we have our doubts about Aaron and John…

Now that’s all been said, perhaps Amy could… come back from the dead? Please?

Natalie Ann Jamieson in profile: Why she won’t marry her partner of 14 years and previous connection to soap mum Laura Norton

Natalie Ann Jamieson joined Emmerdale in 2019 as Amy Wyatt. She has appeared on the soap for five years having been involved in plenty of hard-hitting storylines.

But in real life, things are nice and settled for Natalie as she lives with her partner of 14 years. But don’t ask about marriage, because it seems that won’t be happening for them!

Natalie Ann Jamieson joins Emmerdale as Amy Wyatt

In 2019, Emmerdale decided to bring back the character of Amy Wyatt. Chelsea Halfpenny had originally played the role and she had departed in 2013. Amy was seen going to Ireland after a failed attempt to kidnap her son, Kyle.

Her mum, Kerry, tracked her down in 2019 in order to stop Cain getting custody of Kyle. She found Amy in Belfast being attacked by a scruffy man. Kerry assumed her daughter had become a prostitute but disgusted Amy said she worked at a women’s shelter and was fighting off one of the women’s abusive husbands.

Amy refused to return to help get Kyle back. However the next day she secretly returned and decided to fight for Kyle.

She subsequently settled in the village, split custody of Kyle with Cain and married Matty Barton, becoming Amy Barton.

    Natalie’s early life

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Natalie arrived into the world on February 9 1988. That makes her 37 years old. She is a huge Newcastle United fan.

Natalie attended the Live Youth Theatre in Newcastle and later studied acting at Rose Bruford College.

To pay for drama school Natalie worked two jobs – a department store during the day and a club at night. She also had a job dressing as a Tudor and talking people on tours of the city.

What else has she been in?

Natalie’s television debut was in an episode of ITV crime drama Vera. She made her film debut in I, Daniel Blake. An episode of Doctors followed in 2018 before she got the part in Emmerdale.

Natalie actually attended the same drama school as on-screen mum Laura Norton (Kerry Wyatt). She even performed in a play that Laura had written.

The women share an agent, so Natalie was pleased to know someone when she was auditioning for the role of Amy.

Since joining Emmerdale, Natalie has appeared on shows raising money for charity. These included Celebrity Mastermind where her topic was Absolutely Fabulous. She played to raise money for Cure Usher, which is the charity backed by Laura, whose children both suffer from the condition.

    Natalie Ann Jamieson on marriage

Natalie and her partner Ali Ward have been together for 14 years. However Natalie is not interested in marriage!

When she was filming her on-screen wedding to Matty Barton, the actress told The Mirror that Ali had suggested she propose to him as it was a leap year, when women traditionally propose to men.

“I replied, ‘They’ve just been saying on the news how it’s a really outdated tradition. Besides, I am getting married tomorrow at Emmerdale. One wedding is enough for now’.”

She also added: “We’ve been together ages, 14 years, and getting married is way down on the priority list. We are just very happy as we are.”

And if she did ever think about getting hitched? “I am a very practical person and I’ve always thought I wouldn’t opt for a traditional white wedding dress, but rather one that I can wear again,” Natalie explained.

“When people tell me how much they have spent on a wedding, I think, ‘You could probably go around the world twice with the amount of money involved’. And Ali and I would definitely prefer to do that.”
