  • John’s ‘real motive’ for wanting Anthony dead ‘worked out’ by Emmerdale fans who think they had a ‘secret link’

John’s ‘real motive’ for wanting Anthony dead ‘worked out’ by Emmerdale fans who think they had a ‘secret link’

As John Sugden continues to look suspicious to Emmerdale fans, many believe they have ‘worked out’ the true reason he may have wanted Anthony dead.

John jumped into hero mode for Aaron when he found out about Anthony’s death. But he definitely gave the impression that he had covered up a murder before.

When John first arrived in Emmerdale, fans immediately did not trust him. And now with the growing theories that he actually killed Anthony, fans think they know why.

    John’s secret link to Anthony

Ever since it was revealed that Anthony had sexually abused Ruby when she was younger, and was actually Steph’s dad, fans have wanted the vile man off their screens. And they got their wish.

Emmerdale aired Anthony’s death last week after Aaron brutally beat him up. But by the time he and John went back to the Depot to check on him, he was dead. However, viewers know there was enough time for someone else to finish the job. And now are just waiting for the twist to be revealed.

With many suspecting John was the one behind the murder, up until now his motives for wanting Anthony dead have been unclear. But fans believe there was a secret link we never knew about.

Viewers have theorised that John Sugden isn’t a Sugden at all. But instead is Ruby’s brother. And they believe that he wanted to deal the final blow to his dad.

Commenting on a Facebook post, one fan wrote: “I think Anthony’s real killer is John? Who turns out to be Ruby’s brother.”

Another backed it up, adding: “I thought a brother had been mentioned previously?”

While a third simply wrote: “Love child maybe?”

The theory not only helps further the Anthony plot, but it also provides fans more knowledge of John. Because let’s face it, there’s something off about him.

    Suspicious John Sugden in Emmerdale

So could John have been protecting his sister from their dad? Or had he also had horrible experiences with Anthony and wanted to get his own revenge?

And if the theory doesn’t come true, there is still a question mark over John.

Most fans agree that he isn’t who he says he is. Some believe he is really the mysterious Aidan Moore, who he said died in Afghanistan. But others believe he killed Aidan, and has a murderous side.

Either way, concern has grown for Aaron as John now has the chance to hold this secret over him.

Emmerdale: ‘Just tell Steph’ beg fans who can’t take her ‘where art thou grandad’ routine any longer

As Anthony is murdered in Emmerdale, fans beg Ruby Fox-Miligan to tell Steph the truth about what her ‘grandad’ did to her.

Over the past couple of months, the soap has explored an abuse story, after it was revealed that Anthony abused his daughter Ruby when she was a teenager.

It was also revealed on Emmerdale that Anthony is in fact Steph’s real father, not her grandad. Steph remains oblivious to everything and is intent on finding out where he has disappeared to. However, fans want Steph to be told the truth and to remove those rose tinted glasses.

What happened to Steph’s grandad Anthony in Emmerdale?

Steph Miligan arrived in the Dales in November, with her grandfather Anthony hot on her heels.

Viewers soon discovered, via a special flashback episode, that Anthony had abused Ruby when she was a teenager. This explained Ruby’s hostility towards her dad.

However, Steph has been unaware of what went down years ago and has accused her mum of being cold and of not loving her like she loved Nicky.

Recently, it was revealed that Anthony is in fact Steph’s father, not Caleb Miligan. After Ruby confided parts of her story to Chas, Chas soon realised the whole truth and told her brother Cain. While Aaron Dingle and Caleb also learnt the truth, meaning there were no shortage of suspects when Anthony was killed last week.

Chas also told Nicola that Anthony wasn’t safe around children. However, in Tuesday’s episode, Ruby realises this and demands that Chas take back her words before Steph finds out.

Fans beg for Steph to learn the truth in Emmerdale

Fans took to social media to demand Steph be told the truth, with viewers sick of her ‘where art thou grandad’ routine.

“Despite how heartbreaking it’ll be – Steph deserves to know the truth about Anthony,” wrong one fan on X.

“Just tell Steph….please….I can’t stand listening to her going on about him any more,” wrote another viewer.

I just want Steph to know what a not wonderful man her grandfather really was because how she treats her mum is awful,” wrote a third fan, while a fourth added: “Why don’t they just sit her down and tell her what he did? I get they don’t want to tell her she’s his daughter but she doesn’t need to know that part.”

A fifth fan said: “She’s getting really annoying now. Just tell her the [bleep] truth, think she needs to know.”

Laurel set for drinking relapse after Anthony attack, fans predict

Emmerdale fans have predicted that Laurel Thomas will hit the bottle again following the latest drama with Anthony Fox.

Laurel’s alcohol addiction developed in 2015 following a string of traumatic events.

While she mainly has it under control, fans are predicting her guilt over the attack on Anthony will cause her to relapse.

    Laurel’s alcohol problem in Emmerdale

Following a string of events, including a carjacking at the hands of Ross Barton and the death of her partner Marlon’s ex wife Donna, Laurel turned to alcohol to help her cope.

After a short break away, Laurel promised Marlon she’d stop drinking. But this wasn’t the case. One particularly bad scene saw Laurel add vodka to her orange juice at breakfast, which young April then consumed.

Another episode saw Laurel pass out and choke on her own vomit while looking after April and Arthur. Her drinking also saw her lose her job and catch an STI after a one night stand.

Her addiction was revisited in 2018 after she had an argument with partner Bob, and then again in 2021 following the termination of her baby.

Fans fear Laurel will start drinking again in Emmerdale

After hitting Anthony over the head with a candlestick, Laurel has been feeling guilty and fans fear she could be heading towards a relapse.

“Laurel is heading towards another relapse if she isn’t careful,” wrote one fan on X. “How long until Laurel’s back on the sauce?,” asked another fan.

A third viewer said: “…and Laurel to hit the bottle.” A fourth fan added: “Our floral laurel is going to relapse, I can’t cope.”

Over on Instagram, a fifth fan begged: “Please don’t hit the voddy, Laurel.”

But, we know that Laurel’s been struggling even before the whole Anthony situation after she leant on Marlon for support, so could this be the thing that tips her over the edge and into a relapse?

  • EXCLUSIVE: Aaron did not kill Anthony, Emmerdale viewers overwhelmingly believe

EXCLUSIVE: Aaron did not kill Anthony, Emmerdale viewers overwhelmingly believe

An exclusive poll has revealed that Emmerdale fans believe Aaron Dingle didn’t kill Anthony after all. Aaron may think he murdered Ruby’s abuser, but there have been a few hints since this may not have been the case.

It’s not for want of trying though – Aaron left Anthony at death’s door after issuing a brutal beating. When he returned to the scene of the crime with John, Anthony had passed through that door, and was now fully dead. But was it Aaron who done it?

While it may seem like a cut-and-dry case of Death by Dingle, we’re not convinced. John was just a little too cool about the whole thing, while both Caleb and Ruby have been acting mighty suspiciously in the days following. And what of Cain, who seemed eager to lend Caleb an alibi, assuring he’d always be there for his brother. Did Cain’s guilty conscience lead him to finish the job?

We’re not the only ones either – fans of the soap are also having a hard time believing that Aaron killed Anthony.

Aaron didn’t kill Anthony, exclusive viewer poll reveals

In a poll by Emmerdale Insider, viewers shared their thoughts on Anthony’s murder – and few believe it was actually Aaron. A staggering 82.46% of viewers believe that someone else snuck in and finished the job, while the remaining lot (17.54%) are buying the soap’s version of events.

This means that most viewers (47 out of the 57 people polled) agree that Aaron is innocent.

But if not Aaron, then who did?

Who killed Anthony? All the fan theories so far

A majority of viewers on social media seem to believe in Aaron’s innocence too, with one fan writing on Reddit yesterday: “I don’t think so. Ruby is looking quite suss, as well as Caleb. Emmerdale likes to keep us guessing so I’m thinking would be too easy if it was Aaron.”

And, from that list of suspects, Ruby and Caleb have emerged as the popular vote so far.

“It could be Aaron but I’m not feeling it lol. I keep thinking Ruby killed him,” said another.

“I don’t think they will make Aaron a murderer. Circumstances point to John, he seemed WAY too icy cold and efficient when it came time to take action,” a third theorised.

“IMO absolutely no chance. I could be wrong and the writers could keep it that simple, but they rarely do,” another agreed.

“I’d like to think that he didn’t die of the injuries of just one person and that it was a culmination of what each person did to him, for a Murder on the Orient Express type ending,” said a fifth.

Who do you think killed Anthony?

Georgia Jay confirms Steph will find out Anthony paternity truth – and it will ‘shatter her world’

Emmerdale star Georgia Jay has confirmed that Steph Miligan is set to find out the truth about Anthony – learning that he is her biological father. This comes after a DNA test revealed that Caleb isn’t Steph’s father by blood.

He confronted Ruby and, while she covered the truth for Steph’s sake, soon realised what had happened. Anthony was killed in the days following – first held at gunpoint by Caleb, then apparently beaten to death by Aaron afterwards. Steph, meanwhile, remains in the dark.

But how long before she learns the truth? Star Georgia Jay, who plays Steph on the soap, has explained what happens next.

Emmerdale star Georgia Jay reveals that Steph will be left ‘shattered’ by truth about Anthony

Speaking to The Mirror, Georgia revealed that Steph already has her suspicions. “She’s not stupid – she picks up on the tension and the awkward glances between Ruby and Caleb, the half-finished sentences,” she told the tabloid.

Georgia continued: “They’re always shutting up the moment she comes into a room. She feels frustrated because she knows something is going on that is being kept from her.”

Talking about how Steph will feel when the truth comes out, Georgia said: “She feels betrayed, ashamed, angry and, at the same time, just in total despair for herself and her mother. She’s carrying the weight of her mother’s pain and trauma. It’s going to be a really rocky road for Steph in terms of this whole identity being shattered.”

But what’s next for Steph and her family?

What’s next for the Miligan family?

Looking forward to the future, Georgia said: “I see this as the making of a true family because it’s all been built on a foundation of lies. It’ll be a long road but I do think they’ll build a family that’s really, really strong and built on trust.”

Meanwhile, in upcoming Emmerdale spoilers, as Steph continues to question her grandfather’s disappearance, Ruby begins to crumble. Is this how the truth comes out?

  • Emmerdale killing off Anthony in murder plot was the wrong move – here’s why

Emmerdale killing off Anthony in murder plot was the wrong move – here’s why

Anthony Fox has just been written off in Emmerdale as part of a murder plot – and it looks like Aaron killed him. But, here’s why we think it was the wrong decision.

Last night’s scenes (Thursday, January 23) saw Aaron attack Anthony in the Depot. John then later returned to the site of the crime scene and confirmed that Anthony was dead.

But, as Ruby’s abuser’s life ends, we’re not so happy with the decision to kill him off.

Anthony was stunned to see Aaron there (Credit: ITV)

    Anthony Fox’s murder in Emmerdale

Stumbling around the Dales after suffering a blow to the head by Laurel and after having legged it from Caleb (who was threatening him with a gun), Anthony ended up in the Depot.

He was then cornered by Aaron – who was definitely not a friendly face. Aaron knew what Anthony had done to Ruby, being reminded of what his own evil father Gordon did to him when he was younger.

Aaron never felt as though justice had been served after Gordon ended his own life in prison. He then vowed to let Anthony live so that he could go to prison instead of getting the easy way out. And, like Aaron, we would’ve liked to see Anthony end up behind bars too.

But, fair enough, Aaron’s anger got the better of him when Anthony had the nerve to say that both he and Ruby ‘asked’ for their abuse. What an evil thing to say.

Aaron then punched and punched Anthony until he was bleeding out and had lost a tooth. He then scarpered and told John that he might’ve killed Anthony.

John and Aaron then teamed up (our new fave criminal double act) and realised that Anthony was dead. John then wrapped his body up and shoved him in the van, cleaning everything so that nothing would be traced back to Aaron. The things John does for love…

Opinion: Emmerdale shouldn’t have killed of Anthony

Whilst we really wanted to see Ruby’s abusive father Anthony be punished for his horrendous and absolutely sickening treatment of his daughter, we didn’t want it to end this way.

In soap, there seems to be a troubling pattern of abusers meeting their death instead of going through the justice system and ending up in prison. And, it leaves us feeling a tad too uncomfortable.

Knowing that Anthony was finally paying for his crimes behind bars would’ve given Ruby some sense of justice, knowing that he was going to die inside. But instead, Anthony’s dead. And, he died in the Depot.

The thing is… Anthony had almost accepted his death. He had terminal cancer and was going to die really soon anyway. This means that death wouldn’t be a punishment for what he did. It made no difference, other than the fact that he was robbed of a few extra months at best.

But, watching him spend his last few months in prison, and pay to some extent for what he made poor Ruby go through would’ve been the best way to end his story. And, it would’ve portrayed a much greater message, giving victims hope that justice will prevail in the end rather them or their loved ones having to sadly take matters into their own hands.

Near the end of last year, we saw Tom King get sentenced for his abuse of Belle. Ruby deserved similar justice. Sadly, she was robbed of this chance. And, it just doesn’t sit right with us.

Where is Nicholas Day now? Anthony actor has left Emmerdale and returned to the stage

Last night’s episode of Emmerdale saw Anthony killed in retribution for his abuse of daughter Ruby – marking an exit from the soap for actor Nicholas Day.

Anthony copped a vicious beating after provoking Aaron Dingle, his abuse of Ruby bringing back some painful memories for the young mechanic. Deciding he’d rather be dead than behind bars, Anthony’s venom scored him a brutal beating, leaving him broken and bleeding on the floor of the depot.

Returning to the scene of the crime, Aaron and John found that Anthony had died in the interim, leaving Aaron holding the bag, and with a body to clean up for John. Anthony’s story is far from done, but Nicholas Day’s time in the soap seems done.

    But where is Nicholas now?

Where is Emmerdale actor Nicholas Day, following Anthony exit?

Nicholas is currently starring in the play A Man For All Seasons, alongside George Gently star Martin Shaw. The show is currently playing at Theatre Royal Bath until January 25, before touring in Chichester, Malvern, Cheltenham, Oxford, Guildford, Canterbury, and London Richmond.

This new version of Robert Bolt’s play tracks the fallout as Henry VIII demands a divorce from wife Catherine of Aaragon (divorced) so that he can move on to new girl Anne Boleyn (beheaded) – putting the devout Thomas More (Martin Shaw) in a compromising situation.

Now-former Anthony Fox star Nicholas plays Cardinal Wolsey – clashing with the King after failing to deliver his divorce.

Beth Cordingly issues plea to fans following Anthony exit

Meanwhile, screen daughter Beth Cordingly has reached out to fans following Nicholas’s exit from the soap, describing the star as a ‘gem.’

Writing on her Instagram page yesterday, Beth wrote: “In case anyone is under any illusions I just want to stress what a beautiful man Nick Day is, in real life. We were very lucky to have an actor of his calibre and talent playing my father, Anthony, in Emmerdale.”

She continued: “It wasn’t an easy role for anyone to take on and he found playing this person extremely challenging. I loved working with Nick, we all did. It was an emotional experience requiring a lot of trust and a lot of love. He’s a gem.”

She finished with a plea for viewers to be kind… and not mistake fiction for reality. “If you see him in the street please remember he’s NOT Anthony. I’m sure you all will – so forgive me for sounding patronising – I just wanted to say. Sometimes, as actors, we need a little bit of protection when we put ourselves out there telling difficult stories that need to be told.”

Ruby ‘killed her dad and Caleb covered it up’ – all the clues they were behind Anthony’s death in Emmerdale

In Emmerdale Anthony’s murder has been taking centre stage this week after Ruby confronted her dad over his abuse last week. And while last night showed what happened, many think it wasn’t the full story.

In last night’s episode, Aaron went to the Depot to confront Anthony. And it got ugly. After Aaron opened up on his own experiences, the vile man not only admitted what had happened, but disgustingly goaded him into beating him up.

However, Aaron stopped himself while Anthony was still alive. And while he tried to make Aaron kill him, the Dingle bad boy chose to walk away. But when he and John returned later, Anthony was dead.

    Emmerdale Anthony murder

Aaron immediately panicked at the thought of going to prison, but John stepped in to cover up Anthony’s murder.

However, we didn’t actually see Anthony die. And that usually means something in Soapland. Now, fans seem to think they have cracked the case.

There was plenty of time between Aaron telling John what happened to them heading there together. Enough time for someone to actually kill Anthony.

Fans couldn’t help but notice Ruby’s behaviour switch during that time. She went out looking for Steph and returned even more shaken than before.

Then when Caleb headed to the Depot, he looked genuinely surprised to see it empty.

Fans took to social media to share their theories. And believe that Ruby was the culprit and Caleb was covering for her.

Did Ruby kill her dad in Emmerdale?

One wrote: “My money is on Ruby. The gun was in her house and Caleb had told her it was untraceable. She was very calm talking to Steph. As if she knows Anthony is not coming back and Steph is safe out of his hands.”

Another added: “Caleb going into the Depot with his eyes searching the floor like he was expecting to see something. He had gone to clean up for Ruby hadn’t he?”

“So, did Ruby go up to the Depot and finish off her dad? She looked a bit suspicious when she came back. And she seemed genuinely surprised when Caleb came back and didn’t say anything.”

But now, Aaron is under the impression that he is a murderer, so the question is – is he? Or was it actually someone else?

If he isn’t responsible for the Emmerdale Anthony death, then there are currently a lot of people in the village who think they have something to do with it.

  • Anthony ‘still alive’ in Emmerdale, new fan theory predicts

Anthony ‘still alive’ in Emmerdale, new fan theory predicts

A new fan theory has predicted that resident Emmerdale monster Anthony Fox is still alive. His death last night (Thursday, January 23) seemed fairly definitive – being beaten to a pulp by Aaron and found dead when he and John returned to the scene of the crime.

Whether Aaron actually delivered the killing blow may be debatable, but he’s definitely dead… or is he?

What we do know is that John and Aaron returned to the depot, where army medic pronounced Anthony dead at the scene. After promising to clean up the mess, John sent Aaron on his merry way. He then set about disposing of the body and cleaning up the crime scene, like nothing had ever happened (one solitary tooth aside).

    But is Anthony really dead?

Anthony is ‘still alive’ suggests Emmerdale fan

Writing on Reddit as last night’s episode aired, one fan wondered whether Anthony might have still been alive as John examined the body – and he then let him go after Aaron had scarpered.

“I think John let him go,” wrote one fan on a Reddit thread.

“I don’t think it was down to Aaron. Whenever there is an off screen death, there is a reason for it,” another said. Could that reason be that Anthony isn’t as dead as we think he is?

“Hard to imagine they would make Aaron a killer, though as it’s a soap they will likely allow him to think he killed Anthony for a while,” said a third.

Whatever the case may be, John’s behaviour was a little-too laid back, given the situation. “Sure John has done this before “in the army” 😉” winked one fan, hinting at ulterior motives for the still-mysterious Sugden brother.
