  • Emmerdale’s bad dads from Cain to Mackenzie and Marlon – who’s the worst of the lot?

Emmerdale’s bad dads from Cain to Mackenzie and Marlon – who’s the worst of the lot?

Emmerdale’s full of bad dads! Marlon is continuing to spiral next week as he struggles to deal with April’s return home after her ordeal on the streets. Marlon being Marlon, however, means he’s not listening to his daughter’s torment calmly and working out what she needs to make things better.

    Oh no.

Instead he’s following her, shouting at her, ignoring what she says, sleeping downstairs with the door locked so she can’t leave the house and generally making her life so miserable that we’re pretty sure she’ll scarper again at the first opportunity.

    Great fathering, Marlon. Smashing.

But when it comes to dads in Emmerdale, Marlon’s not even the worst of them. In fact, it’s actually easier to list the dads doing a good job in the village – Paddy, Billy – than the ones who are pretty rubbish.

So we thought we’d take a look at the worst of Emmerdale’s bad dads.

Nate attacks CAin on the boat
Nate and Cain’s relationship was fiery (Credit: ITV)

    Cain Dingle

He’s the obvious place to start because he is shocking at parenthood (and at marriage, and at being a brother, let’s be honest). Cain made a big sacrifice when he took the blame for Kyle shooting Al Chapman, though the truth came out eventually.

But since then it’s been downhill all the way. And right now, when young Kyle needs his dad’s support after the death of his mum Amy, Cain’s too busy moping around and feeling sorry for himself after cheating on Moira to be any proper use.

Then there’s little Isaac, who Cain barely notices, and can we talk about Nate? Whose last memory of his dad would be him attacking him in a rage after accusing him (wrongly this time, but to be fair, he was right about this the first time) of sleeping with his wife.

It’s no wonder daughter Debbie lives hundreds of miles away in Aberdeen, and granddaughter Sarah calls him ‘Grumpy’.

April and Ross talk in the graveyard
We love Ross and April’s friendship but he’s not doing a great job with Moses (Credit: ITV)

    Ross Barton

Ross Barton has shown himself to be fiercely protective of April and there’s no doubt he wore out his shoe leather traipsing the streets of Leeds when she was missing. But that protective nature doesn’t seem to extend to actually listening to April. Instead, like so many other Emmerdale men, he punches first and asks questions later. YAWN.

Ross has abandoned his stepson Seb to come to the village, and while he was adamant about building a relationship with his son Moses when he arrived, he doesn’t seem that bothered now. Possibly because poor Moses is scared stiff of his dad after he took him to an illegal boxing match. That’s definitely not in the parenting manuals.

Nicky and Caleb talk on Emmerdale
Caleb schemed with son Nicky to take down Kim (Credit: ITV)

    Caleb Dingle

Caleb’s children may be proper grown ups now, but that doesn’t seem to have stopped him being one of the worst dads in the village. Currently he’s letting daughter Steph get away with treating her vulnerable mother Ruby like dirt from the bottom of her shoe. While giving her a job and welcoming her into the home, of course. There are no consequences to her horrible behaviour. And yes we know the whole family dynamic is off kilter thanks to Anthony’s abuse of Ruby, but still – you can’t talk to people like that, Stephanie.

And what about Nicky? Caleb manipulated his son – who is gay by the way – into seducing young mum Gabby Thomas and then jilting her on their wedding day and breaking her heart. All because of some weird vendetta he had against Kim Tate who was once married to his dad, Frank Tate.

    Top dadding, Caleb. Well done.

    Charles Anderson looks brooding
Charles has a proper temper (Credit: ITV)

    Charles Anderson

Vicar Charles is dubbed Angry Anderson by fans online and we can see why. His default setting is shouting and losing his temper and no one pushed his buttons more than his wayward daughter Naomi. He stomped and sulked his way through their brief reconciliation when Naomi came to the village and then Naomi left for Australia. She didn’t even come back to see her dad when brother Ethan died.

David Metcalfe - aka Matthew Wolfenden -left Emmerdale last year (Credit: ITV)
David Metcalfe left Emmerdale last year and he’s not coming back – not even to support his son (Credit: ITV)

    David Metcalfe

It’s a bit of a cheat this one as David left the village a while ago. But his supposedly beloved son is currently grieving for his mum Leyla and David has just abandoned him to let him get on with it.

Jacob is young, and vulnerable and he’s coping with his mother’s death all by himself. He really needs his dad. But David’s too busy sulking that Jacob got together with his ex-girlfriend Victoria to think of that.

Luckily for Jacob, he’s got his grandad Eric Pollard by his side. Eric himself wasn’t the best dad, but he’s pulled it out of the bag when it comes to grandfatherhood.

    Chloe and Mackenzie
Mack showed his true colours in his manipulation of Chloe (Credit: ITV)

    Mackenzie Boyd

Overgrown toddler Mackenzie is another dad who’s explosive, handy with his fists, and very quick to centre his own needs above his child or their mother. He was borderline abusive to Chloe, who was a frightened young mum.

He did his best to frighten her into keeping the dad of her baby a secret, then changed his mind, then pretended he wanted to be with her, while he was still in love with Charity…

Wherever Chloe is now, we reckon she must still be reeling from everything that happened. While Mack is busy playing daddy to Moses instead.

Bob looks annoyed while wearing a silly camouflage jacket on Emmerdale (Credit: ITV/Composite: EI)
Daddy Hope thinks about all his other kids that he’s completely forgotten (Credit: ITV/Composite: EI)

    Bob Hope

There’s no doubt that Bob loves his daughter Cathy and he’s been very supportive of her since she lost her twin brother Heath – after a bumpy ride there for a while. It’s just a shame he seems to have forgotten all his other kids! Bob’s got loads of them. There’s Josh, Jamie, Carly and Roxy, plus former stepson Scott – who does occasionally get a mention.

All of Bob’s kids have been in the village at one time or another, but it’s definitely a case of out of sight, out of mind when it comes to Mr Hope’s parenting skills. We’d love to see one or more of Bob’s children return – that would keep him on his toes, no doubt about it!

  • Why did Moira change her mind, why won’t Marlon stop shouting and who WAS Amy? We’ve got a lot of questions about this week’s Emmerdale

Why did Moira change her mind, why won’t Marlon stop shouting and who WAS Amy? We’ve got a lot of questions about this week’s Emmerdale

This week’s Emmerdale review is basically just a list of questions. We’ve been left scratching our heads a bit after the week’s episodes. In fact, we’d say they’ve totally left us with more questions than we had at the start of the week.

It was a busy week in Emmerdale with two of the three funerals for the women who died in the limo crash. And those funerals were at the exact same time, which is the first of our many questions we’ve got this week.

Here is our long list of ‘Whhhhyyyy?’ in this week’s Emmerdale review.

Marlon attacks Dylan while April looks on in Emmerdale
Marlon’s not listening to April (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale review: What is Marlon thinking?

Since April first ran away we’ve had a lot of questions about the way Marlon’s dealing with this whole thing. And never more than this week where he appears to have completely lost his marbles. He’s sleeping by the front door, he’s shouting, he’s absolutely not listening to anything April says.

We’re not sure that April’s life at home before she ran away was so bad that scratching an existence on the streets was a better option. But we’re starting to think it might be now.

And then there’s Dylan. Despite the fact that April has told Marlon and Ross 50 million times that Dylan helped her, they are treating him like scum. He’s a vulnerable teen – just like April. Why is no one helping him?

Marlon was sort of right when he told April it was too much for her to be helping Dylan through his recovery but the solution there would have been to get some proper help for Dylan. Maybe he could have had a word with Manpreet, perhaps. Rather than just shouting at April. Again.

Cain and Moira on the sofa
    Everything’s FINE now (Credit: ITV)

WHY the change of heart, Moira?

We have a lot of questions about this too. So. Many. Questions. Obviously the main one for weeks has been why Cain slept with Ruby in the first place.

But this week we are BAFFLED by Moira’s super-quick turnaround. Why did Moira suddenly change her mind? We’ve got whiplash from that U-turn.

Tracy steals money from the till

    Emmerdale review: Tracy’s a thief!

How on earth did Tracy manage to nick two grand from Eric?! Why hasn’t he noticed given his precarious financial situation? Why didn’t she go to Cain for help, or Vanessa? Or even Eric! Tracy’s better than this.

    Emmerdale review: Leyla Manpreet
Leyla discovered Manpreet’s secret (Credit: ITV)

    What was Manpreet thinking?

We’re glad Manpreet’s getting a story. But sexy pics, Manpreet? Really?

We are quite interested in who her blackmailer is though.

    Jacob at Leyla's funeral
    Poor Jacob (Credit: ITV)

    Leyla’s fabulous send-off

Leyla’s funeral was perfect. We loved how she’d written her own eulogy. We loved the gold coffin, and the pallbearers and the music choices. We really, really loved the fortune cookies. What a great touch. But it was a bit odd that it was in church – somewhere we’re not sure Leyla had ever been!

And it was really odd that it was at the same time as Amy’s funeral. Poor Eric had to choose between two women he’d genuinely loved. And of course he had to choose Leyla’s because he needed to support his grandson Jacob (do NOT get us started on how Jacob has been abandoned by the rest of his family just when he needs them the most)  but it can’t have been easy for him.

    Matty at Amy's funeral
Matty told us all sorts of things we didn’t know about Amy (Credit: ITV)

    Amy’s nature-based, animal loving funeral

Speaking of which, Amy’s funeral was… odd. Because it turns out we didn’t know much about Amy. At least, we didn’t before she died. But apparently she loved nature and walks in the woods, she loved animals, and she had a friend in Belfast who died.

We didn’t see any of that of course, when she was alive, but we know now because Matty told us at the funeral. Which is making us think that Amy was very underused on screen, and also that – whisper this – we won’t really miss her.

Vanessa and Tracy drink to Suzy
Thw women toasted Suzy (Credit: ITV)

    Emmerdale review: Who was Suzy?

In fact, we feel a similar way about Suzy and Vanessa. We hardly saw them together when Suzy was alive. We saw much more of Suzy and Mary’s growing friendship when Vanessa was away. So all the stuff Vanessa’s now telling us about how she was planning to propose and they were going to go to New York, and the details of their relationship are new to us.

Nate Robinson's body floats back down into the water and we can see the distinctive bracelet (Credit: ITV)
Will Matty remember what Amy told him? (Credit: ITV)

We’re not over the limo drama

Just to round off this week’s Emmerdale review, we want to say that we’re still reeling from the drama of Valentine’s Day.

We’re still a bit annoyed that THREE young women were killed in the limo crash. We still think Emmerdale feels unbalanced and too male. We are really, really going to miss Leyla who was just the most fabulous character.

And most of all we are DESPERATE for Matty to remember what Amy told him about seeing Nate’s body in the lake. Yes, we know he’s had a lot on. But come on, Matty! Get that grey matter working!

  • Is Arthur the dad of April’s baby in Emmerdale? Fans sure they’ve spotted ‘hint’ despite him being gay

Is Arthur the dad of April’s baby in Emmerdale? Fans sure they’ve spotted ‘hint’ despite him being gay

The mystery in Emmerdale of who the dad of April’s baby doesn’t seem to be a huge concern on the show. April gave her explanations and then it was dropped.

But viewers can’t help but wonder if what she said was lies, and that she did know who the dad of the baby was.

Initially there were a lot of theories, where fans believed she was covering for someone because she was scared of Marlon’s reaction. But now, some fans think the baby daddy may be closer to home..

    April returns home in Emmerdale

What has April said about her baby’s dad?

When April was found after almost six-weeks of living on the streets, everyone wanted to know who got her pregnant.

Marlon, Rhona and Ross were all ready to track him down. Although, to do that they needed April to give them a name.

However, it seems that even April didn’t fully know the answer to that. As she explained that she was drunk at a party and slept with a random guy that was there.

She was scared of how it looked to everyone, but not long after it, it was never mentioned again.

But in Emmerdale this week Laurel commented on how April hasn’t been to see Arthur yet, leading some fans to wonder if this was a hint.

Is Arthur the dad of April’s baby in Emmerdale?

Laurel headed over to April and told her that Arthur would love to see her, and April said she would “maybe” come over for dinner some time. But the hesitation on her face was clear.

Fans took to reddit to discuss the possibility that April and Arthur may have slept together, and now she doesn’t want to face him.

One wrote: “Am I the only one who finds it odd that April has been back a month and lives about five doors away from Arthur, but she hasn’t responded to him. And she hasn’t seen him at all in that time? I think in a weird twist he might be the baby’s father.”

However, one huge issue with the theory is that Arthur is gay, and had his own coming out storyline. So if this came true, it would kind of ruin his own character arc – which others point out.

A viewer commented: “I don’t want that. I am sick of the whole ‘gay guy sleeps with a woman in a moment of madness and gets her pregnant’ storyline. It’s not realistic.”

Others have called for Arthur to begin a romance with April’s friend, Dylan.

Another added: “This would be infuriating. I would much rather Arthur hook up with Dylan instead. That could be a potentially good storyline for him.”

Emmerdale spoilers: April misses her baby’s funeral as Marlon is left heartbroken by her rejection

April is pushing Marlon away in Emmerdale spoilers

Life at Smithy hasn’t been easy since April returned from her time on the streets. The trauma of her stillbirth is weighing heavily on everyone. And while April has struggled to process her grief, Marlon has found it impossible to reconnect with his daughter.

The pair previously visited the Chapel of Rest to see the baby’s coffin, but the enormity of the occasion proved too traumatic for April. She ran away, leaving Marlon feeling utterly helpless.

Eventually April started opening up to her social worker, which prompted her decision to register her baby’s birth. April chose the name Rebecca for her daughter, after the young women who was stabbed while she was homeless.

But since taking that brave step, April has just wanted to get back to being a normal teen. It may be time to lay Rebecca to rest, but she can’t think about a funeral.

Next week, Marlon and Rhona hold a funeral service for the granddaughter they never got to meet. April is not in attendance, as per her wishes.

However, both Marlon and Rhona feel that April needs to be involved in scattering Rebecca’s ashes.

They try to broach the subject delicately with April, but it’s met with a blank refusal. April vows she won’t have anything to do with the ritual, leaving Marlon and Rhona feeling forlorn.

Can they persuade April to change her mind? And if she still refuses, is it something she will live to regret?

Emmerdale spoilers: Marlon fears April will do another runner

April ran away from home at Christmas and endured several weeks of living on the streets. During that time she witnessed her friend Becca being stabbed to death, and formed a bond with a lad called Dylan. April also suffered a tragic stillbirth in the toilet of a local gym and was unable to save her baby daughter.

Since her return home, April has been struggling to open up to her family about her ordeal. This has played into Marlon’s own anxiety and left him fearing  daughter could disappear again at any moment.

When Marlon’s woken up by a noise in the night he dashes down to the kitchen to find April there. She’s frustrated and cross to realise her dad still doesn’t trust her. And when Marlon tries to explain his actions it only succeeds in making April even angrier.

As Marlon continues to fret, it’s clear there’s something playing on April’s mind.

Once the coast is clear she makes her way back to a derelict squat in search of Dylan. The pair met when April was sleeping rough on the streets of Leeds. He rescued her from a local predator and brought her back to stay in his shelter. Dylan protected April and now it seems she wants to repay the favour.

The youngsters share an emotional reunion, which is cut short when Marlon shows up and jumps to the wrong conclusion. Seeing red, the chef launches himself at Dylan and pins him up against the wall.

Tensions continue to rise as April is adamant Marlon has no idea of the trauma she endured. Dylan tries to diffuse the situation and is able to persuade April to return home with her father, leaving Marlon feeling grateful.

Later, Marlon agrees to give April the space she needs to process and she starts to soften towards him. Have the pair finally turned a corner?

April may be keen to get back to normality, but it’s going to take a long time to come to terms with everything that’s happened to her.

Marlon’s daughter ran away from home on Christmas Day and spent the next few weeks living rough on the streets. The full extent of April’s ordeal was shown during a special flashback episode, which revealed her shock pregnancy.

Viewers watched in horror as April found herself in a series of dangerous situations. The episode ended with April going into premature labour in the toilet cubicle of a local gym. She delivered a baby girl into the world, but tragically the tot didn’t survive.

Marlon and Rhona’s worlds were shattered when they learnt what had happened. April may have been safely returned home to them, but the grieving process has only just begun.

    April makes a brave decision

Emotions remain raw after April and Marlon’s visit to the Chapel of Rest to see her daughter’s coffin. The enormity of the occasion proved too traumatic for April, who fled the church in distress. Marlon was left behind to say a heartbreaking farewell to the grandchild he never got to meet.

Afterwards, April made out she wasn’t affected by the ordeal, but her family feared she was masking her pain. April has also refused to disclose her baby daddy’s identity, claiming to Ross was some lad she met at a party.

Rhona has refused to give up on her stepdaughter and reassured April she’s there for her, whenever she’s ready to open up.

It seems that moment has come when April expresses her gratitude for Rhona’s kindness and support. She also reveals she’s decided to register the birth of her stillborn baby. Will this help start to heal her pain, or cause even more distress?

  • Emmerdale: No, April is not being a ‘brat’… it’s called trauma

Emmerdale: No, April is not being a ‘brat’… it’s called trauma

Emmerdale viewers have lashed out at April Windsor following this week’s scenes on the soap. Last night’s episode (Monday, February 10) saw April and Marlon say goodbye to her stillborn daughter in the hospital.

April gave birth to the infant in upsetting scenes last week, in which it was revealed that she’d fallen pregnant prior to running away from home on Christmas Day. Giving birth to a stillborn child in the toilets of a gym, April was rushed to the hospital – where she reunited with her dad.

April and Marlon said goodbye in Emmerdale last night

Last night, as they bid the baby goodbye, April grew upset and stormed out. She then snapped at her father – claiming she felt nothing for the child. This earned April the ire of many viewers, who slammed her ‘bratty’ behaviour and suggested that Marlon should put his foot down.

But is it really so simple? Between teenage pregnancy, the gruesome death of a friend, suffering a stillbirth and her subsequent hospitalisation (not to mention the bombshell that her mum killed herself!) April has been through a lot.

Emmerdale fans defend April amid backlash

As last night’s scenes aired, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on April’s behaviour towards her dad. And many felt that she should stop giving Marlon such a hard time.

“Treading on eggshells around April isn’t really working. Put your foot down with a firm hand, Marlon,” wrote one fan.

“April is such an ungrateful brat,” said another.

“Tell April if she wants to be gone so bad, then let her go!. You can’t do right for wrong with her omg,” commented a third.

However, others issued a reminder that April has been through a lot.

“I’m kind of surprised at the lack of sympathy towards the traumatised child,” wrote one viewer on a Reddit thread.

“I believe all that’s happened to her recently…especially the pregnancy, birth and the loss of her baby…is affecting her current state of mind. Understandably so,” said another.

Maybe just give her some space, Marlon.

  • What happened this week in Emmerdale: April’s back, Joe’s got our attention and Ross is wasted

What happened this week in Emmerdale: April’s back, Joe’s got our attention and Ross is wasted

It was another bleak week in Emmerdale as April came home after running away on Christmas Day and giving birth to a stillborn baby, but what else happened in Emmerdale this week?

There were more developments in the Joe Tate story, Leyla admitted she was lonely, and the knowledge of next week’s limo crash left us wondering who’s for the chop…

Here’s what we thought of it all in this week’s Emmerdale review.

April crying on the streets in Emmerdale

What happened in Emmerdale this week: April’s back!

Of course the big story this week was April. In a standalone episode we saw the troubled teen resort to sleeping in a squat, with her new friends Bex and Dylan.

We watched poor Bex get stabbed and then die, and watched the harsh reality of Dylan surviving on the streets.

And then in heartbreaking scenes, pregnant April gave birth to a stillborn baby and nearly died in the process.

It was a lot. Actress Amelia Flanagan, who’s played April since she was five, held the whole episode together brilliantly.

She’s so talented and she made April’s torment very believable.

    Why did she stay away?

We didn’t love it all, though, great as it was. Mostly because we kept wondering why April didn’t just go home!

Even new friend Dylan pointed out that April had a home and a family who were looking for her.

Obviously Rhona and Marlon aren’t perfect and things haven’t been easy, but they love her. She’s got Bob, and Mary, and Ross, and loads of people looking out for her.

We know that had she told any one of them that she was pregnant, they would have (eventually!) all stepped up to support her.

And while not knowing the real circumstances of mum Donna’s death isn’t ideal, it didn’t feel huge enough for her to put herself through that ordeal.

Though, saying all that Marlon is extremely annoying. So perhaps April had her reasons.

    Main character Marlon

As we were watching this week’s eps, it struck us that April has proper ‘main character energy’, managing to make everything about her and her ordeal. Somehow she even managed to make Becca’s death about her, wailing that it was her fault (it clearly wasn’t).

And we reckon we know where she gets it from – her dad Marlon.

April hadn’t been home more than a matter of hours before he was whinging that she’d told Ross about the baby when he’d agreed they weren’t telling anyone, and grumbling that he’d let her down… It’s not always about you, Marlon.

    Is Ross wasted?

Speaking of Ross, we still love his friendship with April. But we can’t help thinking he needs more. We’re pleased to see him back in the village, but he’s wasted just being someone for April to moan to.

And now Joe Tate’s back too, it seems even more disappointing that Debbie Dingle isn’t! We’d love to see her – and Jack – back in the village. Recast if necessary, but bring her back!

    Joe and Noah
We don’t know what Joe’s planning for Noah but we’re guessing it isn’t good (Credit: ITV)

What’s Joe got planned for Noah?

Debbie was, of course, legendary for being a misery guts – just like Dawn. So it seems Joe’s got a type!

We’re really enjoying Joe’s return. It feels like it’s been paced just right, with his secrets being drip-fed to us perfectly.

We were already intrigued about what he was up to, when we discovered Kim didn’t trust him either and now Charity’s got Kim’s laptop and we’re all in. Loving the mystery!

Though we’re genuinely concerned about what he’s got planned for Noah and we’re not convinced this job in Dubai really exists…

Worries about naive Noah aside, we also loved Joe’s sarky comment about Dawn’s hoodie.

And the little glimpse into Charity and Ryan’s relationship – they’re a good pairing and we’d like to see more.

    Emmerdale review: Is Billy doomed?

One thing we were wondering was whether Billy could be the one to die in the limo crash next week. Him dying would make things both better and worse for Dawn – which is the best kind of plot complication.

We want a happy ending for Leyla (Credit: ITV)

What else happened in Emmerdale this week?

Our favourite soap friendships are the unlikely ones – Kim and Zak Dingle for example. Or Ross and April. So we’re really keen on Ruby and Aaron’s blossoming friendship. They’re supporting one another and we’re here for it.

Meanwhile our top fave Leyla is lonely and having a rotten time of it and we’re not happy.

She’s such a delight, and we’re really nervous she might die a sad lonely death in the limo crash.

So we’re crossing our fingers and hoping instead she could meet a handsome firefighter/paramedic/doctor as a result of all the drama instead, be whisked off her feet and spend the rest of her days in romantic bliss.

    How cute?!

And finally we need to take a moment to appreciate the absolute cuteness of little Thomas.

Bertie Brotherton, who plays the toddler, clearly adores James Hooton, who plays Sam – those giggles were definitely real.

But also Sam’s long convoluted description of a cartoon with a sneaky mouse and a silly cat? It’s Tom and Jerry, Sam. That’s the name of the cartoon. We reckon Thomas could have told you that!

Emmerdale spoilers: Marlon’s fresh fears for April as they say goodbye to her dead baby daughter

In Emmerdale spoilers for next week, April is supported by Marlon as they visit her baby daughter’s coffin in the Chapel of Rest. But will the sad goodbye help April come to terms with her devastating loss? Or end up pushing her even further away from her family?

Emmerdale spoilers reveal April baby trauma

The revelation of April’s pregnancy has sent shockwaves throughout the Dales. Marlon’s daughter went missing on Christmas Day, but no one had any clue she was expecting.

In the weeks following her disappearance, Marlon spent every waking moment searching for April. He was ultimately unsuccessful in mission, but then PC Swirling came calling with the news that she’d been found.

In a special flashback episode, viewers learnt the truth about April‘s tragic time living on the streets. It followed her as she moved from one dangerous situation to the next, and culminated in the birth of her baby. April went into premature labour and delivered her lifeless child on the floor of a gym toilet cubicle. Tragically, the baby was dead and there was nothing April could do to save her.

The discovery of what happened has turned Marlon and Rhona’s worlds upside down. April may be home, but her ordeal is far from over.

    Lydia reaches out to April

Next week, Marlon and Rhona are at a loss how to get through to April. The couple decide to reach out to Lydia Dingle, knowing that she experienced the trauma of stillbirth when she was a teenager.

Lydia was just 15 when she gave birth to a baby boy in the bathroom of the children’s home where she was living. Unable to tell anyone what had happened, Lydia buried his body in the woods along with her secret.

Understanding the kind of emotions April must be feeling, Lydia puts her own pain aside and opens up about her past. But will her words be of any comfort to April?

Fears for April mount in Emmerdale spoilers

Over at Smithy, April remains subdued as Marlon and April try to delicately discuss visiting the Chapel of Rest. The family make their way over to St Mary’s, where Marlon is transfixed by the sad sight of his granddaughter’s tiny coffin.

The occasion soon proves too difficult for April. Overwhelmed, she rushes off, leaving Marlon to say an emotional farewell to the little girl he never got to meet.

As they return home, Marlon and Rhona try once again to break through April’s barriers. But as they gently attempt a conversation they’re left troubled by April’s cold and detached behaviour. April doesn’t seem that bothered about the day’s sad events, but is she just masking her true emotions?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: April returned home as Charity learned about Dawn and Joe’s affair

April Windsor returned home to her family in Emmerdale tonight – and quickly became overwhelmed by Marlon and Rhona’s pestering. Elsewhere, Joe and Dawn set some ground rules for their affair, unaware that Charity was listening in on the laptop she stole from Kim.

Elsewhere, Leyla opened up to Suzy and Jacob about her recent spate of loneliness.

Here’s everything that happened on Emmerdale tonight, Friday, February 7.

April came home on Emmerdale tonight

April’s refusal to come home, it turns out, had come to nothing. She and Marlon arrived back in the village bright and early, where she was greeted by Rhona Leo and Mary.

It wasn’t long before half the village (well, Belle and Suzy) came blustering over to check in. From across the street, Ross wisely kept his distance, offering an amicable wave instead.

As the family sat around the kitchen table, they continued to overwhelm poor April, trying to force toast and Chinese takeaway upon her, while Leo presented her with an unopened Christmas gift – a snow globe.

Clearly overwhelmed (just give the girl some space!) she fled… and who can blame her. Feeling useless, Marlon sought advice from Bob, who told him that he needed to take control of the situation and give his daughter a little reassurance. Meanwhile, with April still not home, Rhona worried that she’d run away again.

Ross found April at her mother’s grave. He apologised for pushing her away, and she shared the news that she’d been pregnant and had lost the baby – a little girl. She told him the father had been a random at a party, and he reassured her that, while what happened was awful, she was anything but. All that off their chest, the pair shared a hug.

Back at home, Marlon and Rhona were about to launch a search party when April returned, with Ross in tow. As she retreated to her room, an upset Marlon bleated about his disappointment that she’d opened up to Ross instead of him. Just give her some space, man!

Joe and Dawn set the ground rules

Joe flirted with a regretful Dawn, who was insistent that their thing could never happen again. He promised to back off, but or how long? With Kim’s laptop still missing, Dawn accused Lucas of having taken it. Packing Billy off to look for the missing computer, she pondered texting Joe.

That evening, Dawn had changed her mind again, and she laid forth the rules for their affair – no strings attached fun, and family are off limits. That said, they sloped off to bed together.

Charity learned about Joe and Dawn

Charity was attempting to hack the stolen laptop when Noah arose, nursing a hangover. She wasted little time in trying to talk him out of his big move again – there’s no Yorkshire puddings in Dubai! – but Noah was having none of it.

Determined to find out what Joe’s up to, she enlisted Ryan’s help in hacking the laptop – which she was convinced was Joe’s, who she (correctly) believed had been behind Noah’s bad reviews.

Computer whiz Ryan succeeded in opening the computer. Realising that it was Kim’s laptop and not Joe’s, they decided to have a snoop anyway. Happening across Kim’s file on Joe, they listened in on a series of boring business calls until Charity struck gold – activating the bug’s live stream, she began listening in on Dawn and Joe, learning about their affair.

What will Charity do with this information?

Leyla opened up on Emmerdale tonight

Belle and Suzy bragged about how many raffle tickets for the limousine prize draw they’d sold, but Leyla was in a sulk. Her mood continued all day, until she admitted to Suzy and Jacob that she’s been feeling lonely.
