What happened in Emmerdale tonight: We finally know what’s wrong with Moira as she and Cain make it out alive – but where is Nate?

Emmerdale tonight told several things we already knew: Moira and Cain survived the barn explosion and we now know what’s wrong with her. But there’s no sign of Nate, who’s believed to have gone to Shetland. Has he though?

Also, Tom is still missing and Belle’s worried sick he’s been hurt by Cain.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale on Thursday September 12.

Moira is alive – and we know what’s wrong with her!

Behold! Cain and Moira emerged from the barn under the burning blanket having somehow survived that explosion. God knows how.

John then stepped in and got Moira breathing again. And the emergency services finally arrived – about time!

At the hospital, Moira was stable, but Cain wasn’t really interested in going to see her. He has decided things are over and her nearly dying changes nothing. Oh Cain, from hero to zero in just 10 minutes. Chas gave him a talking to though and in he went. Croaking and dazed, Moira wanted to explain herself to her husband, but Cain wouldn’t even hold her hand. He just demanded the truth.

Even in all of this, he was still more concerned about why she kissed Nate. Moira insisted she didn’t know what she was doing – and her fears something was very, very wrong. Still, Cain wasn’t interested – his pigheadedness is getting about as annoying as Tracy right now.

Moira continued to explain her hallucinations of Emma Barton, but it was only when Moira had a seizure in front of him that he finally, finally saw this was serious. The doctor then did a CT scan and we at last know what’s wrong with Moira: she has a mass putting pressure on her brain.

Cain then changed his tune pretty quickly and comforted his wife, insisted she was going nowhere and nothing she had done had been her fault. We don’t like to say we told you so, Cain, but you know, we did. At least he feels remorseful now and is blaming himself for not helping her. But is it too late for sorry?

    Nate listens

    Where is Nate?

Vanessa doesn’t believe Nate would cheat with Moira of all people, but Tracy was adamant Nate did it. She won’t hear him out and insisted they were done. Gosh her wallowing is getting really annoying.

John later mentioned to Tracy that Nate definitely wasn’t there when the barn was burning. He said Nate had already gone to Shetland. Has he though? Has he really? Without so much as an exit scene? Hmm…

Meanwhile, Tracy is now worried Nate will meet someone else in Shetland. So you don’t want him, but you don’t want anyone else to have him? Make up your mind love!

Turns out she wanted a big dramatic goodbye with Nate and is upset she didn’t get it. And there was so much talk between Tracy and Vanessa about how Nate will always be there and he’ll call and send presents and be in Frankie’s life. It was all a bit OTT, hammering home how Nate is fine.

Oh and then Cain told Caleb: “I’ll be lucky if I still have a son.” If all this isn’t signposting Nate’s death, then we don’t know what is! Is there a shock (not shock) coming?

Tom was still missing in Emmerdale tonight

Vinny comforted Belle who was upset over her situation. She confessed Tom was abusing her and she thought he would have killed her. But Belle was still panicking about whether Cain had hurt Tom.

Meanwhile, Jimmy locked horns with Charity in the pub as he defended his nephew. The battle lines have been drawn and it’s Dingles versus Kings. We know who our money is on…

Amelia confided in Kerry that Belle was spreading lies about Tom. But it was clear Kerry was concerned Amelia had been sucked in. However, she went to the pub and revealed all to Chas, who was shocked. Finally Emmerdale has brought Chas into the storyline – it’s about time!

As Chas blamed herself, everyone is really worried about missing Tom and whether Cain has done him in. So where is Tom?

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

We’d almost forgotten about Will – and so had everyone else, but at the barn fire Chas realised he was missing. Mack located him around the side, unconscious. Mack shouted for help with far more gusto than he’d used about his sister in the previous episode.

Will was taken to hospital where he was hopeful of a reunion with Dawn when she came to see him. But she was just checking he was okay and off she sulked to cut her nose off and spite her face again.

We finally found out more about John – he was an army medic. He was hailed a hero in the pub, but found all the attention uncomfortable. As he had a drink with Aaron, Aaron tried to persuade him to stick around and it’s clear his feelings for his ex’s half-brother run deep.

  • 8 reasons Emmerdale totally deserved their NTA win

8 reasons Emmerdale totally deserved their NTA win

Emmerdale won big at the National Television Awards last night, scoring the Serial Drama prize. In doing so, the soap regained its crown after being beaten by BBC competitor EastEnders last year.

At last night’s ceremony, it was announced that the general public had voted for Emmerdale to win.

Here are the 8 big reasons we think it’s a well-deserved win for Emmerdale.

Belle stands up to Tom as he tries to manipulate her
It’s been hard to watch, but Belle and Tom’s story has been one of the soap’s strongest (Credit: ITV)

    1. Strong storylines

This year’s Emmerdale has largely been consumed by the horrifying saga of Belle Dingle‘s abusive marriage to Tom King. Once he’d fooled her into saying ‘I do’ with his nice guy act, Tom let the mask drop, and embarked on a horrific campaign of coercive control which left Belle at his mercy – and questioning everything she thought she knew about her marriage.

    2. Great characters

Love or hate them, Emmerdale has some of the best characters on television at the moment – both new and established. One of the recent additions that viewers love to hate is Ruby Fox-Miligan, who quickly set the cat among the pigeons following her arrival in the village. In doing so, she has clashed with Kim Tate and Moira Dingle – earning a signature ‘Glasgow kiss’ from the latter last week.

Meanwhile, John Sugden has sparked countless fan theories since his arrival last month, quickly getting hot and steamy with Aaron Dingle.

Traumatised Belle Dingle has a choice to make in Emmerdale

    3. Excellent performances

Fans have hailed Eden Taylor-Draper‘s performance as one of the best the soap has ever seen. At the heart of Tom and Belle’s story,  the star has taken it all in her stride. She lost out to Coronation Street’s Peter Ash (who played the late Paul Foreman) in winning a trophy for her performance, but Eden deserves all of the awards for having to put up with Tom King’s vile abuse.

And, talking of, we may hate terrible Tom, but there’s no denying that James Chase has done excellent work in making his character the most slappable soap villain of 2024.

    4. Inventive direction

The soap has gotten experimental in recent weeks; Moira experiencing hallucinations of old foe Emma Barton; an episode from Belle’s perspective which followed her as she explored potential futures with husband Tom. It’s thinking outside of the box and we love it.

    5. Explosive action

While its cast were busy winning an award for the soap, Emmerdale aired one of the most explosive scenes of the year so far. With Moira and Ruby trapped in a burning barn, a devastating explosion rocked the farm – leaving two beloved characters potentially dead.

As Cain, Mack and John raced to rescue Moira and Ruby from the deadly inferno, viewers were left on the edge of their seats. Boom.

Belle looks confused and upset as Charity worries about her in Emmerdale tonight

    6. Powerful writing

Yes, it’s Belle and Tom again, but the soap deserves all the kudos for Belle and Charity’s big conversation – during which she outlined exactly what her husband had been up to. Viewers’ hearts broke afresh as Belle finally confided in Charity, putting all of that pain and self-doubt into words.

And then it did it all over again the next day, once Cain learned what Tom had been doing. Defying expectation, Cain stormed off as Charity revealed the truth – only to turn up on Belle’s doorstep to envelop his little sister in a big, comforting hug. Devastatingly observed by the soap writers.

    7. Heartwarming comedy

If the scenes of dogs being run over, Moira losing her marbles and Tom being an all-around evil monster were too much, Emmerdale can still be relied upon to bring the humour. And this year it’s been Mandy’s turn to bring the comedy. Embarking on a get-rich scheme, Mandy became a Financial Dominatrix for dosh. Her marriage to Paddy was in doubt for a while, but it all came good in the end.

    8. Piper the dog

If there’s one thing Emmerdale has that the other soaps don’t, it’s Piper the dog. ‘Nuff said.

Emmerdale tonight: Cain and Moira presumed dead after explosion rips through the barn

In Emmerdale tonight it looked like Cain and Moira had perished when the barn exploded with them still inside. Is there any way they can make it out alive? Surely this can’t be the end for the soap power couple…

The barn fire continued in Emmerdale tonight…

Mack and John fought their way through the flames (Credit: ITV)

John and Mack rushed to save the day

Moira came round and tried to rouse Ruby, who was out cold. Then she found out locking the barn from the inside hadn’t been her smartest move as she couldn’t get out.

Meanwhile, Mack saw smoke coming from the barn and raced over there on his quad bike. John also arrived swiftly and took charge of the situation. Mack called the emergency services, with a serious lack of urgency in his voice, it has to be said – come on man, your sister’s in a burning barn!

Elsewhere, Chas was trying to get through to Cain with them all still thinking Moira was going through the menopause. For crying out loud, clearly there’s something much more seriously wrong with Moira! Then they got the call that the barn was on fire and they needed to go, fast.

Cain and Chas looked panicked as they raced towards the burning barn (Credit: ITV)

Cain raced in to save Moira

In the burning barn, John and Mack had located Ruby. They managed to get her out just as Cain, Chas, Caleb and Will arrived. But with no sign of Moira, Cain raced into the burning barn to save his wife. The one he had declared things were over with.

He found Moira and she told him she loved him. They then got themselves under a blanket as Cain tried to lead them to safety.

Cue some very dramatic music that sounded a bit like the Casualty theme tune, as they tried to get out and then the barn exploded. With no sign of either Moira or Cain outside.

Thrown to the ground by the explosion, Chas screeched: “Caaaaaaiiiinnnn,” as she knew her brother had quite possibly perished.

But this is Moira and Cain, they aren’t gonna go like this, are they? Surely we need to find out what’s wrong with her and have a glorious reunion? Then again, there’s really no way anyone inside could survive that explosion… We’ll just have to leave it to the greatest hospital on earth, Hotton General, to work their magic.

And by the way, what’s taking the emergency services so long?!

Tom continued to manipulate in Emmerdale tonight

    Rhona and Vanessa took action

Rhona told Vanessa Tom has been abusing Belle. Rhona felt awful she didn’t spot the signs, but Vanessa was more concerned with getting rid of him. They agreed he was gone.

Tom arrived and overheard Vanessa and Rhona slagging him off. But Vanessa was pretty upfront about it, telling him they wanted him gone for good. Tom threatened them with an unfair dismissal case as they didn’t have any evidence, but they stood their ground. However they were left feeling shaky after Tom’s reaction.

Jimmy then found Tom brooding and caught a glimpse of his temper as he snapped at him. Is Jimmy finally seeing what his nephew is really like?

    Nope!

Obviously Tom managed to manipulate him again to his side. Great. Good one Jimmy, you idiot.

    Amelia stood by her man

Elsewhere, Belle went to visit Amelia to try and talk some sense into her. But Amelia stood firm and then Jimmy arrived and said Tom had disappeared. Charity and Belle begged Amelia to see sense, but Jimmy continued to side with Tom and Amelia decided to believe him instead.

And then they all started to worry Cain had dealt with Tom. They needn’t have, though, he was far too preoccupied with a burning barn.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

Will was packing the money for the blackmailer, when Kim walked in. He lied to her he was going to try the new gym in Hotton. But she got very seductive and suggested they found another way to burn off his energy. He shrugged her off saying they needed to take things slowly as it was too important to him. Hmm, was that a wise move? Do you turn Kim Tate’s advances down and live to tell the tale?

As Will then arrived at the blackmailer’s meeting point, he saw Caleb who told him about the fire. Will rushed off to help. And missed his meeting with his tormentor. Which he will surely live to regret.

Meanwhile, hypocrite Tracy was upset over Nate and Moira and said she should have known he would never change. Er, hello pot, this is kettle. Anyone else getting really fed up of Tracy being so self-righteous?

Spilling the beans in Emmerdale spoilers

Knowing Belle has spilled the beans about his coercive controlling behaviour, Tom realises he has to act.

He urgently tries to hide the evidence of him stalking Belle by removing all the hidden cameras he had set up in the cottage.

But he’s cornered when Jimmy asks him what’s in his bag. What will he say to put Jimmy off the scent?

Tom is, of course, a master manipulator and he manages to distract his uncle by telling him – full of emotion – that Belle’s spreading rumours that he abused her.

Jimmy is horrified and promises to protect his nephew. But it doesn’t take long for news of Belle’s revelations to spread round the village.

    Tom goes missing

At the vet’s, Rhona and Vanessa are unimpressed and immediately dismiss Tom from his job.

But soon everyone is worried about the newly jobless vet because he disappears. No one can track him down, and Cain’s around… Has Mr Dingle taken terrible revenge for Tom’s behaviour towards his little sister, Belle?

Or is this another one of Tom’s mind games to ensure he regains control and manipulates the villagers back on to his side? After all, Cain has promised Belle he won’t take revenge and will not act until she’s ready, would he really go back on his word?

  • Review of the week: Belle’s upset, Will’s a wally, Moira’s out of control

Review of the week: Belle’s upset, Will’s a wally, Moira’s out of control

This week’s Emmerdale review is all about quirky storytelling!

Emmerdale is never afraid to try something new when it comes to interesting ways to tell a story and this week we were treated to a special, stylised episode featuring four potential futures for Belle Dingle.

Did it work? We’re not sure! Find out more in our Emmerdale review of the week.

Belle looks into the distance fear and worry on her face (Credit: ITV)

    Groundbreaking episodes

Back in 2016, Emmerdale screened a groundbreaking episode exploring Ashley’s point-of-view as a dementia patient.

And since then we’ve seen all sorts of innovative episodes including two-handers, an all-female cast and crew for International Women’s Day, an all male episode promoting men’s mental health, flash-forwards, flashbacks, and a Christmas episode featuring Robert Sugden that’s probably best forgotten.

We’ve also had two special episodes in the Belle and Tom storyline. There was the dinner party where we saw the same events play out from Marlon and Rhona’s point of view, and from Belle and Tom’s. It cleverly portrayed the truth that you never know what goes on in someone else’s marriage.

And then there were the tense, gripping episodes as Belle and Tom went to their remote Welsh cottage only for his abuse to ramp up further.

So we were excited to see how this week’s special episode would play out.

But we’re not sure it really hit the spot!

Belle and Tom arrive at their holiday cottage

Belle rattled in our Emmerdale review

Belle was rattled this week when Tom revealed he was in a relationship with young mum Amelia Spencer. And her desperate attempts to persuade Amelia that it was a bad idea fell on deaf ears.

So the special hour-long episode began with Belle hoping to protect Amelia. In the first scenario, she got back with Tom and we saw her at Christmas, pregnant and sad.

In the second, her passionate  – and public – pleas to Amelia, listing the ways Tom had hurt her, were overheard by Cain. He lashed out, and was carted off by the police, as Tom fought for his life.

Next – giving us a glimpse a few years into the future – we saw businesswoman Belle, who was back working with Suzy, while Tom and Amelia planned a wedding. But Belle knew Amelia wasn’t happy and tried to warn her. It was too late, though, and we saw Amelia’s body being taken away while Tom cried crocodile tears at her funeral.

    Dark stuff!

    Belle and Charity
Charity has promised to do things Belle’s way (Credit: ITV)

    Begging for help

But the final scenario was the one where Belle told Charity what had been going on and she, and a surprisingly calm Cain promised to support her. Thankfully, as Friday’s episode showed, that was the ‘real thing’ and we’re looking forward to Tom getting his comeuppance!

There’s no doubt that it was an entertaining episode. As a storytelling technique, though, showing alternative futures seemed a bit unnecessary. Belle and Tom’s story is dramatic, engaging and important enough without needing the addition of gimmicks. And actors Eden Taylor-Draper and James Chase are great actors who don’t need any glittering distractions to help them shine.

But we loved the final outcome and now we are on tenterhooks waiting to see how Tom will pay!

Will looks crestfallen in Emmerdale spoilers
Will’s being a bit of a wally (Credit: ITV)

    Will’s baffling blackmail

The rest of this week was uneventful! Will’s blackmail plot is still completely baffling. How that man thinks he can outsmart Kim Tate is beyond us. Has he met Kim? She always – ALWAYS – comes out on top. And if she’s not behind his blackmail, well, let’s just say, we’ll be very surprised.

Everyone persistently ignoring Moira’s health issues is beginning to grate a bit, too. The poor woman is mood-swinging all over the place and it’s clear something’s very wrong. Though, we have to admit seeing her headbutt Ruby was a treat! We reckon Moira and Ruby could actually be good friends – they’d be a formidable team!

Emmerdale tonight: Cain supported Belle and we just fell in love with him all over again

Emmerdale tonight brought out the Cain Dingle we love oh so much when he supported Belle after learning the truth about his abuse. As our heart rate recovers from his mad, bad, brooding, but melt-in-the-middle demeanour, here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight.

Cain hugs Belle in Emmerdale tonight and both look emotional
Cain will protect Belle now, phew (Credit: ITV)

    Cain supported Belle

As Belle woke up on the sofa at Charity’s she was privy to Mackenzie’s pooing habits as they were exposed – apparently he was going to have a dump at The Café – poor Brenda.

Anyway, that picture of domestic bliss aside, Belle felt relieved, but admitted she was worried about telling Cain. Charity agreed to do it for her, insisting she needn’t worry because Moira is the violent one these days! True story.

Charity then arranged a secret meeting with Cain and prefixed what she was about to tell him with the sentence: “We can’t kill him.” When a Dingle says that, they really mean business. Of course Cain was fired up and immediately flew out of his seat ready to hurt Tom “and the rest”. But Charity talked him down and he calmed slightly.

But before too long, Cain couldn’t contain his anger any more and stormed out, despite Charity screaming at him to stop. However it turned out he wasn’t off to confront Tom, he went straight to Belle, took her in his arms and said: “We believe you and we love you.”

And that moment just cemented our love for Cain all over again. Swoon.

Back in the bosom of her family, we finally felt Belle was somewhat safe again. Cain told her they would go to the police when she was ready.

Tom saw Cain leaving Charity’s with Belle on the doorstep and he knew. He realised he was caught out and she had told them everything. So what will his next move be? He’s not going to give up without a fight, so how will he regain control of this situation?

Amelia and Tom hug on the sofa
Tom is manipulating Amelia now (Credit: ITV)

Amelia fawned over Tom and it was not pretty

Elsewhere, Tom revealed it was his birthday as flirty Amelia supped on wine and tried to seduce him. She then attempted to organise a birthday party for him, but no one would attend.

He manipulated Amelia saying her plans had made him feel even more rejected, sucking her even further under his spell.

Kerry then had a mother/daughter chat with Amelia – telling her she had a thing for rescuing lost lads. Kerry’s not really one to talk about taste in men, but she does have a point. However she sort of spoiled it by saying they can’t even get free vet care out of it because they don’t have a pet.

Angry Amelia told her to support her or butt out of her life, leaving Kerry with no choice. But we wouldn’t like to be Tom when Kerry realises what he’s really like.

    Moira stares
We need answers over Moira now (Credit: ITV)

For the love of God, tell us what’s wrong with Moira!

Caleb wanted Moira to give Ruby an apology, but she was adamant Ruby was flirting with Cain. Nate defended Moira, but Mack was not on his sister’s side.

Later, Nate and Moira shared a hug, but she had a moment of weirdness which he thought was her trying to kiss him. She later insisted she wasn’t, however, he shouted at her quite aggressively and stormed off. It was all rather confusing – for us and for Moira. And honestly, we’re struggling to care much about Nate’s temper tantrums.

Also, Caleb witnessed their ‘moment’, immediately told Ruby and now we fear it’s all going to kick off. That will then be the focus instead of finding out what the hell is wrong with Moira. It’s dragging now, give us some answers, please, we’re bored.

Nate and Tracy decided to leave in Emmerdale tonight – yay!

Nate confessed to Mack he’d kissed Tracy and had all the feels and didn’t know what to do. Mack, who was keen for him to stay, told him to talk to Tracy. This was the same advice Moira gave him, and not to state the obvious, it seems like the right thing to do.

Then after Moira’s weird kiss-not-kiss moment, Nate stormed off and told Tracy he was leaving for Shetland. But that he wanted her to come with him. She told him they wanted the same thing and led him upstairs. So is that an exit for both of them, then? Is Tracy leaving Emmerdale too? We wouldn’t be overly sad to see it…

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

Aaron was doing a very bad job at pretending he wasn’t bothered that John was packing up and leaving. John himself seemed slightly bothered, but not enough that he was going to stay or anything. Are they really over?

Emmerdale fans left ‘unable to speak’ after episode that saw Belle imagine her futures

Emmerdale fans were left so emotional after last night’s episode giving us a glimpse into what the future could hold for Belle, that they were unable to speak.

Viewers loved the heartbreaking scenes as Belle Dingle – who’s been trapped in an abusive relationship with husband Tom – considered her future.

The possible futures for Belle in Emmerdale

In a special, stylised episode, Belle watched herself living three potential futures – each of them more heartbreaking that the one that went before.

The first glimpse of her future saw Belle back with Tom, stuck in the abusive marriage, but this time she was pregnant and definitely not blooming with happiness.

In the second scenario we saw Belle desperately trying to make Amelia understand that Tom was an abuser. But as she told her all the awful things he’d done, Cain was listening in. He stormed off to take out his anger on Mr King and ended up being carted off by the police.

Finally we saw Belle in what initially looked like a positive future – winning in her career as a wedding planner and totally fine with Tom and Amelia planning their own big day. But Belle knew Tom hadn’t changed and tried to warn the bride to be – only for her concerns to be ignored.

Then Amelia died “falling” down the stairs and Tom posed as a grieving widower at her funeral, leaving Belle devastated.

    Back in the real world

Knowing there was only one course of action she could take, back in the real world, brave Belle went to Charity’s cottage. She opened up to Charity and told her exactly what had been going on.

It was an emotional episode, with all the possible futures, and Belle’s real-life decision, bringing all the feels.

And the fans loved it! Though they agreed it had left them so distraught that they struggled to speak at the end of the episode!

Now Belle’s opened up to Charity, so we’re hoping Tom will finally face justice for everything he’s done.

And we can’t wait to see it!

Fans declare ‘episode I’ve been waiting for’ as Belle opens up to Charity

Emmerdale fans have declared last night’s special episode featuring Belle Dingle the one they’ve “been waiting for”!

The viewers were delighted that after months of abuse, Belle finally turned to her family for help – but only after exploring what the future would hold if she didn’t.

    Emmerdale: Belle imagines her future

Belle watched three potential scenarios play out. In the first, she and Tom got back together and we saw her desperately sad and scared, and pregnant.

In the second, she begged Amelia to listen as she ran through all the ways Tom had hurt her.

But Cain overheard, and – in typical Dingle fashion – he attacked Tom leaving him fighting for life.

The third scenario saw Belle having made peace with her split from Tom and his new romance with Amelia. In scenes several years in the future, we watched Tom and Amelia plan their wedding, only for it to become clear that he was now abusing his wife-to-be.

Belle tried to intervene, but her attempts to help came to nothing. Poor Amelia was taken away in a body bag after “falling” downstairs, while Tom played the grieving widower at her funeral.

    Asking for help

Having seen all those potential futures, Belle knew what to do. She headed to Charity’s house and begged her to help.

    PHEW!

The fans were thrilled by Belle’s brave step.

“The episode we’ve been waiting for,” said one viewer, while another Emmerdale fan said: “I’ve been waiting for this to happen for months.

“Charity was the best choice for Belle to confide in,” said another satisfied fan.

And one viewer declared it “the best episode I’ve seen from Emmerdale in a long time”.

Meanwhile Emmerdale co-stars also lined up to praise Eden Taylor-Draper (who plays Belle) and Emma Atkins, AKA Charity, for their performances.

Bradley Johnson, better known as Vinny said the episode was “amazing”, while Lawrence J Robb, who plays Mack, added: “God they’re good aren’t they?”

We definitely can’t argue with that. We just hope Belle can get the happy ending she deserves – far away from evil Tom King!

Confused Emmerdale fans question ‘Who’s dead?’ as they see body bag wheeled out of Belle and Tom’s cottage

Fans of Emmerdale were left confused following last night’s episode of the soap, in which a bodybag appeared to be wheeled out of Belle and Tom’s marital home.

This special episode, told from Belle’s perspective, showed her as she imagined each potential future of a life with Tom in it. Here she imagined repairing her marriage to Tom; Cain beating her husband to death after learning the truth; Tom murdering Amelia after presumably throwing her down the stairs.

Belle reveals the truth to shocked Charity

As Belle ran through every possible outcome, she found herself at Charity’s doorstep – where she finally revealed the truth about her ordeal.

But before then, one imagined future showed a bodybag being wheeled out of the family home. And it was this development which left fans scratching their heads. Who had been killed?

Emmerdale fans confused as Belle imagines a series of grim futures

As the episode aired, fans took to social media to register their confusion at what had just happened.

“Who’s dead?” several asked as other clarified no one had actually died, it was just an imagined scenario. “I’m so confused,” several replied again.

Elsewhere on social media, someone else queried: “Is he dead?”

“I’m so confused. This episode has me lost,” said another.

“I am so confused tonight,” wrote a third.

“This is like the ending of the series Lost. That was confusing as well…” another agreed.

Of all the scenarios we saw play out, only one was real in the end – Belle telling Charity what Tom had been doing to her.

  • Emmerdale tonight: From Amelia’s death to Cain’s arrest, Belle imagined her different futures – and finally chose the right one

Emmerdale tonight: From Amelia’s death to Cain’s arrest, Belle imagined her different futures – and finally chose the right one

Emmerdale tonight saw Belle Dingle imagine her life turning out in different ways as she looked ‘through the looking glass’ into her future. And some of the paths she could take were very bleak indeed.

In fact, it seemed even if she moved on with her life and ignored Tom, the consequences would be fatal for others.

Finally it looks like Belle has acted and told Charity everything. But was that just another imagined future or was that her final decision? We’re a bit confused but we *think* it was her final choice – and if so, it was definitely the right one!

Emmerdale tonight: Belle’s future Part One

So the first option was for Belle to take Tom back to save Amelia. She visited him at Nicola and Jimmy’s and saw him doing his trousers up just after sleeping with gullible Amelia.

Belle then confessed she wanted him back and promised to abide by all his new rules. He swiftly dumped Amelia and took Belle home – where he found everything gone and her telling him she would never get back with him. It was all a trick to reveal his true self to Amelia.

But somehow, she soon ended up at Christmas five months pregnant with his baby, sobbing her heart out as he forced her to eat toast. What is his obsession with toast?!

    Belle’s future Part Two

The second imaging saw Belle beg Kerry to help her protect Amelia, but then it seemed Tom had turned the tables and made out Belle was the one abusing and stalking him. No one believed poor Belle as she begged them to realise he was the abuser.

She then lost it, screaming in the pub exactly what Tom had done to her. And Cain overheard.

True to form and all her fears, Cain stormed out and beat Tom to near-death. As Cain was arrested and looking at life in prison for murder, STILL no one believed Belle, and Lydia decided to have her sectioned for her own safety.

What is getting more and more frustrating here is the pattern of no one – not even Lydia – believing the victim and Tom, who isn’t even that nice to anyone, pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes. Fortunately, that seemed to be rectified later on, but we’ll get to that.

    Belle’s future Part Three

The third option for Belle was to ignore Tom, get on with her life and not strive to help Amelia escape suffering what she had.

Confident businesswoman Belle was in partnership with Suzy, she wore a black power suit and big gold earrings (neither of which Belle would ever wear, but hey, we’ll go with it). Amelia, Esther and Tom meanwhile, were playing happy families and planning their wedding.

But soon Belle spotted a burn on Amelia’s hand and tried to help. It was very clear Tom was abusing Amelia, but she tried to cover for him and threw Belle out.

In the end, though, Amelia was carried out of the cottage in a body bag, dead after supposedly falling down the stairs. Now we all know Tom pushed her, but no one else seemed to realise and he got away with it. So that’s the future if Belle didn’t act and she sure felt guilty about Esther.

    Belle’s future Part Four

So it looks like this is the future Belle has chosen – to be honest and open with Charity about everything that has been going on. To tell the right people in the right way and manage the situation to make sure she and her loved ones are protected, while Tom is punished.

As Belle recounted everything she had been through to Charity, our hearts broke. Full props to Eden Taylor-Draper her for her performance – still defending Tom, still coming to terms with what he has done to her and still confused as to whether it was her fault.

Charity started to go in full-Charity mode and we winced, but then she realised, calmed down and told Belle they had all night and could talk about everything.

Did Emmerdale tonight finally put an end to Belle’s abuse storyline?

Well, we’ve been told this will continue until the end of the year, so chances are this is not over.

Tom is likely to twist and manipulate everything, but with the weight of the Dingle family against him, it finally looks like comeuppance won’t be too far off.

    At last.
