Tom King faces justice as he stands trial for assault and controlling or coercive behaviour in today’s episode of Emmerdale and Denise Welch joins the cast.
A nervous but determined Belle takes the stand to give evidence about what Tom has put her through.
Meanwhile, Tom is cocky and eager to take his chance to stick the knife into his wife.

Jury service
But it’s the jury who take centre stage in the episode as they wrestle with the truth about what happened.
Former Bad Girls star John Ellis, Corrie and Casualty star Charles Dale, and Loose Women presenter and Coronation Street icon Denise Welch all star in the episode as members of the jury.
Denise Welch plays Heidi, a juror convinced of Tom’s guilt from the start, while Charles Dale takes on the role of Karl who’s definitely on Team Tom – at least to begin with.
Kenneth, played by John Ellis, is on the fence as the jury begin to consider their verdict.

Denise Welch joins Emmerdale: ‘An honour to be a part of it’
Former Corrie star Denise said she enjoyed being part of such an “important” episode.
“I’ve been gripped by the Belle and Tom storyline so to play a head juror in the story’s culmination was an honour,” she added.
The special episode features stories taken from real-life instances of domestic abuse, with the help of the charity Refuge.
“My character Heidi was more emotionally involved, so I felt that maybe she had experienced some form of domestic abuse herself,” Denise said.

Campaigning against abuse
The ITV show Loose Women launched a campaign called Facing It Together earlier this year, intending to shine a light on all sorts of abuse including coercive control. “The subject matter is one I’m passionate about,” said Denise.
And she added: “To share the jury scenes with Charlie Dale and Jack Ellis and also to see lots of my Emmerdale mates made it a job to remember.”
But will the jury reach the verdict all the Emmerdale viewers are hoping for? Only time will tell!

In Emmerdale tonight Tom King realised his plot to walk free was working as Belle spiralled at the prospect of him taking his own life. He smugly told his solicitor he was ‘basically a free man’ as Belle questioned whether she could testify. Sigh.
Meanwhile, Aaron and John opened up some more and Billy is a complete idiot who is boring us to tears.
Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Tuesday December 17.

Belle spiralled after Tom’s stunt in Emmerdale tonight
Vinny and Charity were still on their anti-Tom bandwagon, with Charity firmly believing Tom has faked his suicide attempt. But Belle completely believes Tom really did try to take his own life. She feels sorry for him for goodness sakes. She was questioning whether she can stand up and face him in court because she can’t have his death on her conscience.
Belle went to see Paddy who tried to help Belle see this was not her fault. But he also told her he didn’t know whether Tom had meant it or not, he could not offer her the reassurance she needed.
Meanwhile, Charity got herself into Tom’s room and saw he was bright-eyed and bushy tailed. She knew she was right about him faking the whole thing.
Finally Charity got to say what she wanted to. Tom fought back, slimy and manipulative. But Charity told him he wasn’t a victim. However all her harsh words only made Tom realise Belle believed he had done it and she was spiralling. He was smug as Charity stormed out having made a massive mistake.
Tom was smarmy and joyful as he told Ollie he was going to stand trial and now that Belle is out of the equation he’s ‘basically a free man’.
More bad news came for Belle when the judge agreed her past with Gemma can be disclosed in court. Charity tried to tell her she had to testify, but Belle was still convinced his mental health crisis was real.
Seriously, she’s spent so long waiting for justice and now Emmerdale are sending her down this route. He is manipulating her again, and might win again. This storyline is getting exhausting.
Aaron and John’s bond seems to be growing stronger every day (Credit: ITV)
John opened up to Aaron in Emmerdale tonight
On the camping trip, Aaron and John woke up full of love, but when Aaron found Aidan Moore’s dog tags, John clammed up and refused to answer the questions.
Aaron wouldn’t let it go though and wanted to know who Aidan is. John wasn’t too keen on opening up, just saying today would have been Aidan’s birthday. There is definitely more to this than meets the eye and it’s about time Emmerdale told us.
John did confess he and Aidan were more than friends and he was the first person he felt anything for. He seemed to open up about everything, but is he being completely honest here?
Also in Emmerdale tonight…
Billy was an idiot
Billy and Dawn were having bangers and mash for tea tonight, but their excitement was dampened by bad news: Jai gave them a week’s notice on Holdgate. Dawn was grateful they had a back-up plan and could move back into Home Farm, but stubborn Billy refused to budge and won’t go. Get a grip, Billy.
Turned out he still hasn’t got one because before too long he had Jai in a head lock demanding a month’s rent back. Dawn told Billy they were moving back in with Kim and his pigheaded pride saw him tell his wife he wouldn’t be coming with her and his children.
There’s so many infuriating characters in Emmerdale at the moment, but right now Billy is very near the top of that list.
Brenda was shocked to hear noises coming from upstairs (Credit: ITV)
Brenda got the wrong end of the stick
Arriving with some leftovers for Pollard, Brenda heard him and Kerry shouting and moaning upstairs. Mortified, Brenda literally ran away from the house before confronting them later on. But they explained they were merely cleaning and Kerry had moved in as payment.

Tom is rushed to hospital
Chaos ensues at the prison as a ‘code red’ is declared in Tom’s cell. It’s not long before Belle finds out that Tom has been rushed to hospital after attempting to take his own life.
With Tom soon due in court, everyone wonders if the case will still be able to go ahead. Belle is in turmoil over the situation and she is soon spiralling. The Dingles are on hand to try to rally her spirits and keep her on track, but the fear of having Tom’s death on her hands is too great.
Belle starts to question whether she can really get through this. She decides to talk to Paddy, who previously thought about taking his own life, to try to get some insight into Tom and his suicide attempt. Will Paddy be able to reassure Belle or could he make her even more confused?

Emmerdale spoilers: Charity visits Tom
Charity meanwhile, is not at all convinced Tom is being honest. She manages to surprise Tom by gaining access to his hospital room. Tom is alarmed by her sudden appearance.Â
However, when Charity demands that Tom admit he faked the suicide attempt in order to stop the court case – and of course put Belle off testifying against him.
But Charity has made a big mistake because her arrival and her attitude makes Tom smell a rat. He very quickly realises that Charity is only there because Belle is spiralling. Charity soon regrets her interference, but is it too late?
Tom thinks he’s won and tells solicitor Ollie that Belle won’t be testifying. Confident that he will get off on all charges, Tom is gleeful. But is he right? Or will Belle prove him wrong and find the strength to turn up?

In Emmerdale spoilers for next week, the time has finally come for Tom to face the consequences for his actions. But will he get the outcome everyone wants?
Tom has spent months physically and mentally abusing his wife, Belle Dingle. And when he realised he couldn’t manipulate her anymore, he turned his attention to others – Jimmy, Amelia and Angelica.
But with everyone firmly against him now, Tom’s day in court arrives. And in true evil Tom fashion, he is convinced he has gotten away with everything. So as he gets ready to put on the performance of a lifetime, will it be enough?

Emmerdale spoilers: A smug Tom takes to the stand
At the start of the week, Tom is rushed to hospital after trying to take his own life.
This causes Belle to question if she can even go through with it, and when she goes missing on the day she is supposed to testify – will she inadvertently be the reason he gets away with it?
Charity believes Tom faked his suicide attempt, but when her surprise visit to the hospital ends in Tom knowing Belle is anxious, it seems it only made things worse.
Tom explains to his solicitor, Ollie, that he thinks Belle will refuse to testify as he ended up in hospital.
In his hospital room, Tom practices his best performance for his day in court. But will he be able to manipulate the jury?
Emmerdale spoilers: The Dingles are terrified that Belle’s disappearance could lead to Tom getting out. (Credit: ITV)
The Dingles are horrified to hear from the prosecution barrister that if Belle doesn’t testify, it will be a struggle to convict Tom. But where has she gone? And will she come back in time?
Tom on the other hand is pleased with the way events have unfolded when Ollie fills him in on Belle’s disappearance. So when the jury gathers for the trial to begin, a smug Tom is ready to have all eyes on him.
But exactly what will happen during the trial? Will Belle finally get the justice she deserves in the form of a prison sentence for her husband? Or will Tom’s performance even trick the jury?
But is everything as it seems? Read on to find out more in Emmerdale spoilers.

Tom’s trial is in jeopardy
With Tom having attempting suicide, it seems the trial is in jeopardy.
Belle’s shocked and starts to spiral, desperate to know what to do for the best.
The rest of the Dingles try to reassure her, but she’s terrified of having Tom’s death on her hands and she starts to wonder if she can go through with the trial.
Can Paddy help Belle in Emmerdale spoilers?
Wanting answers, she goes to see Paddy. She tells him about Tom and asks him questions about his own suicide attempt.
Can Paddy give Belle the reassurance she so desperately needs or will he make her even more confused?
The family are shocked when the barrister says they’ll struggle without Belle (Credit: ITV)
Emmerdale spoilers: Belle does a runner
It seems it’s the latter, because as the day of the trial dawns, Belle gets up early. She leaves her family a mysterious note and quietly slips out of the cottage into the early morning.
And sure enough, as the trial begins, Belle’s nowhere to be seen. The Dingles spring into action, desperate to find her and they’re shocked when the prosecution barrister admits that without Belle’s evidence, they’ll struggle to get a conviction.
Meanwhile when Ollie tells Tom that Belle’s not turned up, Tom’s smug. He reckons everything is going his way.
Belle had managed to turn the tables on Tom, sneaking her phone into his bag as he gloated and threatened her. She then told the police, who tracked the device and arrested him at the ferry port.
By now, the evidence is overwhelming – and not even Jimmy or Amelia can turn a blind eye anymore.

Daisy Campbell defends Amelia as the police arrest Tom
Star Daisy has revealed her own thoughts on the situation. When asked whether she thinks Amelia would know better, she said: “I think she would. I’ve had a lot of comments off people saying your character’s so annoying at the minute because she’s not seeing Tom for who he is.
“But, I think people forget that it’s a story we’re trying to tell. He’s such a manipulator. He knows what he’s doing, and obviously he’s done it with Belle so he can do it to someone else.
She added: “Because Amelia’s so much younger, she’s only 18, she is very vulnerable.”
Hitting back at fan comments, Daisy said: “It frustrates me because I’m like this is the story. This is how it is. This is real life. But it does frustrate me in some areas because I’m like oh come on Amelia, you’ve got a kid now, he’s older, come on, get the cogs turning because she should know.”

In Emmerdale, Tom King has finally been charged for his months of abuse towards his wife, Belle Dingle.
Last week, after he failed at going on the run, DS Foy charged Tom King and refused to let him back out.
This was obviously a highly anticipated moment by all Emmerdale fans, as the storyline has been difficult to watch for many. But just when it seemed justice was about to be served and we could be free of Tom from our screens – Angelica decided to contact him.
Tom had tried to reach out to Jimmy, but after Nicola gave him a talking to, he realised it was a bad idea. And so Jimmy ignored the messages coming from the prison.
Unbeknownst to her parents, Angelica had heard a lot of their conversation, and decided she wanted to talk to her cousin herself.
After putting in her own contact details, she received a call from Tom, who was also surprised. However, he quickly realised he could use his manipulation skills on her, and it wasn’t long before Angelica was believing every word he said.

Fans react to Emmerdale Tom and Angelica twist
Viewers were not happy at all with this development as everyone thought it was finally the end of Tom. But of course, things can never be so simple in soap.
Many fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their upset at the storyline.
One wrote: “Angel barely knows Tom. Why is she getting involved?”
Another added: “Oh I thought the Tom storyline was over…”
“Why is Angel even getting involved? Why would she even believe Tom? It doesn’t make any sense”, a third added.
The angry reaction is quite understandable, especially as Emmerdale confirmed Tom’s storyline will be coming to an end this year.
Emmerdale Tom manipulates Angelica (ITV)
While Angelica and Tom’s new connection may seem out of the blue, it most likely relates to Angel’s own recent feelings about herself.
Not long back from spending time inside for causing the death of Heath, Angelica felt she was evil. And even explained she doesn’t feel anything.
With someone else in her family headed for prison, she could feel Tom is the only one who relates to her.
But will she snap out of it soon? Or will she fall for every lie Tom gives?

It’s the festive season in Emmerdale, but there is a distinct lack of good cheer in our Christmas preview because frankly, things look pretty bleak for just about everyone.
With Moira anxiously waiting the results of the biopsy on her tumour, Cain hiding his infidelity and the drama of the Tom and Belle storyline all looming, it doesn’t look like any of the Emmerdale residents are going to have a merry Christmas this year!
In fact, show boss Iain MacLeod has said 2024 will be one of the most “exciting” Christmases in the soap’s history.
He told Digital Spy back in September: “This Christmas, there is a huge surprise arrival on Christmas Day. As well as some life or death jeopardy on Christmas Day – but obviously there will be festive brilliance as we do every year – but I think it is one of the most exciting Christmases that I can remember on Emmerdale this year!”
He continued to promise “incredibly heartbreaking family drama with plenty of Dingle action. There is also some classic gothic antics at Home Farm – some skullduggery!”
So what is happening this festive season? Let’s take a look in our Christmas preview.
WHAT IS GOING ON?! (Credit: ITV)
Kim’s Christmas surprise in Emmerdale!
At Home Farm, Kim’s pulling out all the stops for a Christmas to remember, while Will’s pretending to be loved-up but planning a meeting with Peter. But when Peter delays putting their takedown of Kim into action, saying there’s been a change of circumstance, Will’s annoyed and confused.
He’s even more cross when Peter won’t tell him who the third party is. Who’s pulling the strings? Is it Jamie Tate? Joe Tate? Caleb?! Will we find out over the festive period?
Meanwhile, acting on Peter’s orders, Will suggests to Kim that they renew their vows on Christmas Day and then feels guilty when she gets emotional.
We’re still not convinced everything’s as it seems with this storyline. Is Kim actually in on the whole thing? Will all the Tates return en-masse at Christmas – Joe, Jamie and Jean?! Is Frank really alive? Could Dave Glover rise from the dead? Is it Rose? (Please don’t let it be Rose). Tina Dingle? Lydia?! Frankly nothing would surprise us now!
Moira tells Matty the bad news (Credit: ITV)
Bad news for Moira
It’s time for Moira to get her pathology results back but Cain’s nowhere to be found. Poor Moira’s still convinced her cheating, useless husband will show up in time, and makes a last-minute phone call to Cain.
Having stayed away, full of guilt, Cain finally steps up but circumstances conspire against him and he misses the appointment.
When Moira eventually catches up with Cain, she tells him her results were fine. But she admits to a heartbroken Matty that she lied – she needs radiotherapy.
With Cain having let her down again, will Moira realise something’s very wrong with her marriage? Could this be the last Christmas for Coira?
Oh look, Cain’s let Moira down AGAIN (Credit: ITV)
Cain gets arrested!
Cain does have a good reason for missing Moira’s appointment, mind you. As he tries to make it to his wife’s side, he’s stopped by Jai’s badly parked car, and then has an altercation with PC Swirling which ends up with him being arrested.
He’s let off with a caution and heads off to go and get drunk which is where Liam finds him
Is Cain about to ruin Moira’s Christmas and also her entire life? (Credit: ITV)
Will Cain confess in Emmerdale this Christmas?
When Liam drops Cain off at home, Moira’s FUMING! She tells her husband she’d arranged a surprise party for his birthday the next day and he needs to pull himself together.
But Cain’s got one thing on his mind – confession! He wants to tell Moira exactly what he was doing when she was having her operation. Will he spill the beans? It’s definitely shaping up to be a miserable Christmas at Butlers.
The photograph brings back bad memories for Ruby (Credit: ITV)
Ruby flashback
With Ruby struggling with – well, everything really – things aren’t any happier in the Fox-Miligan household. Ruby’s still trying to pretend nothing happened with her and Cain, she’s getting used to Steph being around again, and dealing with memories stirred up by her dad’s arrival.
As Christmas approaches and Anthony starts reminiscing, Steph finds a photo of Ruby on her 16th birthday way back in 1992 – just a year or so before Steph was born. In a special flashback, viewers will see why Ruby’s pretending she doesn’t remember the day and why it makes her so uncomfortable.
We’re guessing whatever the memory is, it’s nothing good, and we reckon raking up the past isn’t going to help the Fox-Miligans look forward to a happy new year.
Ross gives up
And what a surprise, there’s no Christmas cheer for Ross either as he decides it’s time to give up trying to be a dad to Moses and let Mack take over.
Belle has found the strength she needs (Credit: ITV)
Ho ho hope for Belle?
BUT there might be some good news for Belle this Christmas as her domestic abuse ordeal comes to an end. Though before that happens, things get a bit tricky as imprisoned Tom worms his way into niece Angelica’s affections, convincing her he’s been wronged by everyone in the village.
As Jimmy and Nicola fret about their daughter’s support for Tom, are things about to get a whole lot worse for the Kings?
Emmerdale bosses have promised Belle will be in a much happier place by Christmas and with a special episode set for Tom’s trial this December, let’s hope she gets the justice she deserves.
After Iain’s comment that there will be a surprise return on Christmas Day, speculation is rife over who it will be. Many fans think Pete Barton will come home, now his brother Ross is settling in the village again.
Others think Joe Tate, who may or may not be plotting against Kim (could be just wishful thinking) will be back.
Some are hoping (still) for the Robert Sugden comeback they’ve been calling for. Just as John and Aaron are set for a happy Christmas together, could Robert come back to stir up the pot?

This week’s review is full of despair, because everything in Emmerdale just feels a bit bleak, doesn’t it?
Poor Moira’s still in hospital, and there’s misery and upset everywhere we look. Here’s what we thought of this week’s episodes in our Emmerdale review.
What is going on?! (Credit: ITV)
Kim and Will’s endless plots
We planned to do a little recap of what’s gone on with the warring couple but as soon as we started writing we realised we weren’t completely sure. Someone is double-crossing someone else, and Will seems to be working with Kim‘s Graham-clone financial adviser Peter.
But Peter seems to be working with someone else to bring down Kim (why does he even care? Who even is he?!)
But her being so furious about the whole thing has made us a bit excited that she might take terrible revenge on Chas and Liam. She’s killed before, after all…
Is that it, then? (Credit: ITV)
Vinny’s FINE in our Emmerdale review
Is the whole Tina Dingle thing done and dusted now, then? Is that it? When Vinny joked with Belle that they just needed to “rejig the family tree” it sounded like it was all over. Job done. Surely there’s going to be more to this? We hope so, anyway!
Tom was finally outsmarted by Belle (Credit: ITV)
Belle outsmarted Tom
When Tom tormented Belle this week, we were beginning to feel a bit frustrated. How come, we thought, no one is ever around when he corners poor Belle.
When he drove past her as he made his mistake, we even found ourselves wondering why Belle never uses her phone to help herself. Why doesn’t she film him? we thought.
But then Ms Dingle only went and outdid herself! She used her phone to track her evil ex and the hero that is DS Foy (yep, that crush we have on DS Foy is holding strong). Brilliant gripping stuff. We can’t wait to see Tom brought to justice.
Amelia finally saw the real Tom! (Credit: ITV)
Amelia and Jimmy finally saw sense!
A big shout out to Amelia and Jimmy for realising they’d also been duped by Tom and admitting their faults.
We especially enjoyed Charity and Amelia’s chat in the church. The Dingles have been really kind towards both Jimmy and Nicola this week, despite how they’d behaved towards Belle. It was good to see.
Roxy Shahidi is reportedly leaving as Leyla (Credit: ITV)
Leyla’s back in our Emmerdale review!
We’ve missed Leyla so we were very pleased to see her back this week. But it just reminded us that those rumours that she’s being killed off are still flying about and we’re not happy about them!
