What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Tina left with nothing after Vinny double-crossed her and Cain set fire to her caravan

Emmerdale tonight saw Tina face the wrath of Vinny, Sam and Cain – and her life went up in smoke thanks to the latter. Will she still stick around after this?

Meanwhile, it was clear Pollard is facing a health crisis. But will he get the help he needs before it’s too late?

Here’s what happened in Emmerdale on Tuesday November 12.

    Vinny wouldn’t talk to Mandy

Vinny didn’t want to speak to Mandy, despite Gabby encouraging him to hear her out. Mandy meanwhile was desperate to talk to him and as her voice broke we actually felt quite sorry for her for once. There was no overacting or big, bubbly and loud Mandy here, just a genuinely broken one.

    Vinny tricked Tina

Tina burst into Wishing Well to use the facilities and Sam gave it to her with both barrels. Vinny interrupted the argument to have it out with Tina.

Tina fronted it out and said she wouldn’t grovel. Not the best way to start. But then she claimed she was too much of a mess to raise a baby. Vinny was not stupid – he knew she came back when there was profit and not for him.

So Vinny offered her £50k – if she took the money, she would give Zak’s will back and would never contact him again. But if she didn’t, she could stay and be a mum to him.

    Tina choose the money. Obviously.

But there was no money in there, it was just paper. And Tina went mad. She’d already handed the will over and although she tried to argue it out, Vinny told her to get out and stay out.

Cain dealt with Tina, but is she leaving now?

As the Dingles all descended to confront Tina, she dropped the bombshell she had other kids to feed. More Dingles? Is she telling the truth?

Cain wasn’t bothered to be honest, he just wanted her gone and arrived with a can of petrol. He meant business as he poured it all over the caravan. Tina begged him to stop, but none of the Dingles stood up for her and Cain lit the flame, with the caravan going up in smoke.

So will Tina stick around? Or will she go? Well, she hasn’t got anywhere to stay, but it actress Samantha Power had previously said her stint was a short one, so could this be the kick she needs to get out of town and leave the Dingles alone for good?

Pollard lost it in Emmerdale tonight

Pollard was still out for Caleb’s head and Brenda warned him to leave it alone. Of course Pollard had no intention of doing so. But then he made a phone call to the doctors and couldn’t get through and broke down in tears. So it’s clear something else is going on here and it’s not just Caleb getting to him.

He then went to the doctors and launched into an attack on Ella, tearfully begging to speak to a doctor. Bear and Wendy stepped in and escorted him out.

When Brenda later confronted him, Pollard claimed he just needed a routine appointment. But something tells us it’s more than that. Is Pollard really okay?

Later in the Woolpack, Eric lost it at Caleb again, but he was clearly struggling, shaking as he tried to get the upper hand. We are not happy about this, poor Eric…

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

    Caleb played Jai

Jai gave Billy a trial at the depot, playing the big boss. But he didn’t check with Caleb. Oops, that’s sure to have consequences.

Jai also asked for his money back from Caleb after Laurel found out he was involved with the depot. But Caleb played hardball and insisted he was best off leaving the money in the offshore account. He managed to talk Jai round, but clearly Caleb has an agenda. Will Jai be clever enough to work out what it is?

    Angelica’s confession broke Nicola

Angelica was furious with her mum over checking her laptop. But Nicola was adamant she was just looking out for Angel and that she needed to go back to school. Nicola tried the softly, softly approach, but Angelica blurted out she believes she is evil. Can Nicola help her daughter through this?

  • The 20 longest-serving Emmerdale characters of all time – Eric Pollard, Kim Tate, Charity Dingle and more!

The 20 longest-serving Emmerdale characters of all time – Eric Pollard, Kim Tate, Charity Dingle and more!

Emmerdale has been on air for an incredible 52 years and the village has been home to thousands of characters, but who are the longest-serving? While there are no original characters still in the show, there are others who have on screen for a significant number of years.

Eric Pollard comes out on top with 38 years of service, but which locals, past and present, have clocked up decades in the Dales?

Here’s a rundown of the 20 longest-serving Emmerdale characters of all time. Is your favourite on there?

Eric Pollard smiles in Emmerdale publicity shot

Longest-serving Emmerdale characters: 1. Eric Pollard

The award for the longest-serving character in Emmerdale history goes to the one and only Eric Pollard. It’s been 38 – yes, 38 – years since the former antiques dealer stepped foot in the famous village. He was only meant to stay for 12 episodes, but now has over 3300 under his belt.

Chris Chittell, who is also Emmerdale’s longest-serving actor, quickly won fans over with his portrayal of immoral Eric. He made his first appearance on September 30, 1986 and soon became a permanent fixture.

Pollard has certainly packed a lot into his nearly four decades in the Dales. He’s been married five times, committed fraud, bigamy and discovered he had a son he never knew existed.

Eric may be a pensioner living with Parkinson’s every day, but don’t be fooled – there’s still life in the sly old fox!

    Annie Sugden in Emmerdale

    2. Annie Sugden

Sugden matriarch Annie was the beating heart of the village, particularly in the early days of Emmerdale.

Annie was introduced back in the first episode, which aired on October 16, 1972. She was portrayed by actress Sheila Mercier, and remains the longest-serving female character in the soap’s 52-year history.

The Sugdens were Emmerdale’s central family and headed up by Annie, who was a real heroine. She had practically raised her three children – Jack, Peggy and Joe – singlehandedly, while managing to run a busy farm.

Annie was also a true survivor, and overcame financial troubles, addiction battles, and even nearly being killed in the 1993 plane crash. She left the village in July 1994 to start a new life in sunny Spain.

She popped back a few times over the years, making her last appearance on February 2009, in what was her 1595th episode. Annie died off screen in August 2020, aged 100.

    3. Jack Sugden

Another member of the OG Emmerdale gang, Jack Sugden became one of the show’s most important characters.

He was originally played by actor Andrew Burt on and off between 1972 and 1976. In 1980, Jack made a permanent return to the village, and the role was taken over by Clive Hornby.

For the next 28 years, Jack was a staple of village life. An experienced and hard-working farmer, he was a respected pillar of the community. He lost his first two wives in tragic circumstances, but found happiness with Woolpack landlady, Diane Blackstock.

The biggest headache in Jack’s life were his children – particularly his sons Robert and Andy, who formed a long-running rivalry.

Following Clive Hornby’s sad death in July 2008 the decision was made to kill Jack’s character off. He died the following February while visiting his mum, Annie in Spain. Jack’s body was returned to his beloved village and laid to rest in the local cemetery.

In total, Jack was in Emmerdale for 35 years and four months.

    4. Kim Tate

Coming in at fourth place for years in service, is the indomitable lady of the manor, Kim Tate.

As the glamorous gold-digging wife of millionaire Frank, Kim made her debut on December 12, 1989. The Tates arrival in the village marked the dawn of a new ‘sexier’ era for the soap. And Kim had sex appeal galore!

Played by the brilliant Claire King, Kim is best known for her steamy love affairs, criminal capers and the moment she stood and watched Frank die and did nothing. She’s entertained millions for over 1500 episodes.

Kim was away from the Dales between 1999 and 2018, but has now been back on the throne of Home Farm for six years. And long may she reign!

Robert looks sombre as he appears in court to be sentenced

Longest-serving Emmerdale characters: 5. Robert Sugden

The time between Robert Sugden’s first and last appearances is an impressive 33 years and seven months.

The son of the late Jack and Pat Sugden, Robert made his first appearance on the day of his birth – April 22, 1986. Since then, the character has been played by four different actors, most recently Ryan Hawley.

Robert’s one of Emmerdale’s most popular, yet flawed, figures. His standout storylines include the love triangle between him, Katie Addyman and his adoptive brother, Andy. And of course, his iconic affair with Aaron Dingle. Robron forever!

The character’s last episode on-screen was November 1, 2019, when he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for manslaughter. Here’s hoping they let him out for good behaviour so the fans can get the comeback they’re craving.

    Alan Turner in Emmerdale

    6. Alan Turner

Many fans will remember Alan Turner as the iconic and kind-hearted landlord of The Woolpack. But he wasn’t always a cuddly grandfather figure.

When Alan arrived on March 18, 1982 he was a ruthless and pompous businessman who made his fair share of enemies. But time mellowed him and and Alan ended up becoming a highly respected local and friend to many.

Actor Richard Thorp, who was previously known for his roles in British films such as The Dambusters and The Barrets of Wimpole Street, played Alan for 2696 episodes until his death in June 2013. The character was written out of the show, and died off-screen in October 2013, with the village mourning his passing.

    7. Victoria Sugden

This year marked Victoria Sugden’s 30th on Emmerdale – and what a journey it’s been!

Born to Jack and Sarah Sugden on March 31, 1994, Vic has lived in the village her entire life. She was originally played by Jessica Heywood, then Hannah Midgley, before Isabel Hodgins took over the part in 2006.

Victoria has had an eventful life so far. She underwent emergency surgery as a baby, lost both her parents at a young age, had a stint in psychiatric care, split from husband Adam Barton and was the victim of a rape attack that resulted in the birth of her son, Harry. After a short-lived romance with toyboy Jacob Gallagher, Victoria is focusing her energies on getting to know her long-lost half-brother, John.

Her character has been without a big storyline for a while, but being part of such an iconic brood, we think Vic will always have a home in Emmerdale.

Poor Sam has coped with a lot (Credit: ITV)
Sam is now the longest-serving Dingle (Credit: ITV)

    8. Sam Dingle

Sam’s staying power is pretty impressive. Next year, the much-loved Dingle, and actor James Hooton (who’s played Sam from the start) will be celebrating their 30th anniversaries on the show. This means Sam is the longest-serving Dingle.

Zak’s third son arrived in Emmerdale on Valentine’s Day 1995 straight from a Young Offenders Institution. Sam’s always been the most gentle and naive of the Dingle clan, but has toughened up with age. That’s what life in the Dales does to you!

He’s experienced terrible heartache, losing his first love, Alice to cancer when their son Samson was a few months old. But Sam has since found his happy ending with wife Lydia, and the arrival of his granddaughter, Esther.

    Mandy Dingle points in excitement

    9. Mandy Dingle

Bubbly, brash and a bit bonkers – there’s no mistaking Mandy Dingle. She’s been bringing her own brand of craziness to Emmerdale on and off for over 29 years. Wow!

We first clapped eyes on Mand on July 20, 1995 when she came to live with her Uncle Zak after being kicked out of home. The character turned actress Lisa Riley into a household name.

After two disastrous marriages – the first to her own cousin, Butch, then local vet Paddy Kirk – Mandy left the village in 2000. She returned 19 years later with son Vinny in tow (although it’s now transpired he’s actually Tina Dingle’s offspring).

Mandy is now happily re-married to Paddy, but for how long?

Zak Dingle in Emmerdale (Credit: ITV)
Zak Dingle is sorely missed by everyone (Credit: ITV)

Longest-serving Emmerdale characters: 10. Zak Dingle

Zak was the strong-willed head of the Dingle family and a staple on our screens for 28 years and eight months.

A former notorious bare-knuckle boxing champ, Zak was introduced on October 20, 1994. Over the years, more and more members of the Dingle clan were introduced – from children, to cousins and other distant relatives.

The man behind Zak Dingle was Bury born actor Steve Halliwell. He starred in 2929 episodes, but was forced to step down in June 2023 due to ill health. Steve sadly died on December 15, 2023 at the age of 77.

Zak’s own passing occurred in October 2024 and he was brought home to be laid to rest in Dingle soil.

He often looks worried, but is the stalwart of the Dales (Credit: ITV)
Marlon has been entertaining audiences since 1996 (Credit: ITV)

Longest-serving Emmerdale characters – No. 11. Marlon Dingle

Just missing out on a place in the top 10 (for now) is everyone’s favourite chef, Marlon Dingle. Played by Mark Charnock, he’s been a permanent fixture since his arrival on October 17, 1996. That means he’s been on our screens for 28 years.

Although not an obvious Romeo, Marlon has been married five times. His current missus is Rhona Goskirk, but arguably the real love of Marlon’s life is his best mate, Paddy, who’s lived in the village nearly as long as he has.

Mark was recognised for his incredible soap career in May 2023 when he received the British Soap Award for Outstanding Achievement. In his acceptance speech the actor joked his almost three decades on the show was ‘the longest streak of luck in television history’!

Things are finally getting better for Paddy (Credit: ITV)
Paddy has been on one heck of a journey (Credit: ITV)

    12. Paddy Dingle

There’s only one man that could follow on from Marlon – his bestie, Paddy Dingle.

We bet when actor Dominic Brunt’s first episode aired on February 20, 1997, he wouldn’t have dreamed he’d still be here 27 years later. And like Marlon, Paddy has never had any time out from the village.

The local vet started out as a locum before settling in the Dales and opening his own practice. Unlike his professional job, Paddy’s personal life has been rather more chaotic. He’s been married five times to four different women, had a few steamy affairs, and battled crippling depression.

So after more than 3200 episodes, we’re wondering what the writers have in store next for Paddy?

    Lisa Dingle in Emmerdale

    13. Lisa Dingle

Oh lovely Lisa, she was another great character who left us too soon.

Zak’s kind-hearted second wife and mum to Belle, Lisa was the glue that held the Dingles together. She came to the Dales on August 13, 1996 and viewers quickly took her into their hearts.

Fans were outraged when Zak left Lisa for Joanie Wright, but he soon came to his senses. The soulmates wed in a tear-jerking ceremony on May 24, 2019, but by this point Lisa was dying. She slipped away peacefully at Wishing Well Cottage just hours after saying ‘I do’, marking the end of a 23 year stretch on the soap.

Lisa’s last appearance was via voice in February 2024 when Belle read a letter from her late mum.

    Seth Armstrong in Emmerdale
Seth’s character was originally intended to stay for a few episodes (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

    14. Seth Armstrong

Gamekeeper Seth is no longer with us, but he will always be remembered as one of the all time greats.

Identifiable by famous handlebar moustache and woolly beanie hat, Seth was what you might call a loveable rogue. He was introduced on May 16, 1978, but was only meant to be for a few episodes. He stayed for 26 years, seven months.

However, the fans really took to actor Stan Richards’ portrayal of Seth and by 1980 he was a full-time regular. In total, he featured in 1862 episodes.

Seth is probably best remembered for his romance with Betty Eagleton. The golden oldies had been sweethearts when they were young, but proved to us all love has no age.

Seth was written out of the show in 2003 due to Stan Richards’ ailing health. The character made his last appearance on December 24, 2004 via a video call with Betty. Stan died in February 2005 and Seth was given an off-screen death in October of the same year.

What Belle's been through is not her fault (Credit: ITV)
Belle has become one of Emmerdale’s most important characters (Credit: ITV)

Longest-serving Emmerdale characters: 15. Belle Dingle

Like Victoria Sugden, Belle Dingle is another Dales lifer.

The character made a memorable entrance into the show on Christmas Day 1998 when she was born in a pigsty. Belle was originally played by twins Emily and James Mather (the latter of whom stopped appearing in 2000). From 2005, she’s been portrayed by Eden Taylor-Draper.

Belle’s been through a lot for a lass her age. She’s survived falling down a mineshaft, she accidentally murdered her best friend, had an affair with a married man and has battled schizophrenia. 2024 has been beyond hellish for Belle with the ordeal she’s suffered at the hands of her abusive husband, Tom King.

Now approaching her 26th birthday, Belle has featured in over 1960 episodes.

Jamie is shocked his mum is dead
Kim Tate’s son Jamie was a chip off the old block (Credit: ITV)

    16. Jamie Tate

Surprising as it seems, but Jamie Tate makes it into the top 20 of Emmerdale’s longest-running characters.

Kim gave birth to her only child on September 24, 1996 at Hotten General Hospital. He was at the centre of a ‘Who’s the Daddy’ storyline, as Kim wasn’t sure if Jamie was Frank’s or her lover Dave Glover’s son. It later transpired he was Frank’s. During his first three years Jamie was portrayed by no fewer than five different actors.

Jamie left the village via helicopter in 1999, and spent two decades away. He returned in 2019 (this time played by Alexander Lincoln), a qualified vet, with a wife and daughter in tow. Jamie soon proved he had inherited his mother’s appetite for adultery and general manipulation.

After causing chaos for a couple of years, Jamie did the off again in September 2021 and faked his own death. So far, Jamie has starred in 472 episodes, and the door has been left open for his return.

    Bernice Blackstock in Emmerdale
Bernice always made an impression wherever she went (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

    17. Bernice Blackstock

She may have been a bit of a Marmite character, but Bernice Blackstock clocked up a lot of years in Emmerdale.

Work brought the redhead to the Dales, and she was introduced to viewers on November 25, 1998 as the new barmaid of The Woolpack. Bernice rose through the ranks and actually ended up becoming landlady. She’s also best remembered for her marriage to Reverend Ashley Thomas, and running the Grange B&B with Bob Hope.

Bernice had several stints in the village, the longest being seven years, but in 2023 actress Samantha Giles announced she was quitting the soap. The character left under a cloud of shame after being exposed for tax fraud.

Bernice’s last episode aired on November 14, 2023, marking her 1630th appearance. She’s now currently living in exile on the Costa del Sol, and no doubt getting up to mischief.

Cain is scared of living up to Zak's name (Credit: ITV)

    18. Cain Dingle

It’s almost been a quarter of a century since Cain came into our lives. And how glad we are he did.

The Dingle bad boy, first showed up at his cousin Butch’s funeral on March 30, 2000. And he’s been here ever since, bar when actor Jeff Hordley took a three year hiatus between 2006 and 2009.

Cain is one of the show’s most popular characters and it’s not hard to see why. His criminal capers and affairs of the heart are legendary, as is his loyalty towards his beloved brood. With Zak now dearly departed Cain has assumed the role as head of the village’s most iconic clan, and we reckon he’ll do a brilliant job at it.

Charity Dingle is a classic Emmerdale icon (Credit: ITV)

    19. Charity Dingle

Another big fan favourite, Charity Dingle has been shaking things up since she got here on March 30, 2000. Yes, she arrived on exactly the same day Cain did – which was quite fitting given the pair’s history.

Much like her cousin, Charity has had a very colourful life. She’s lived on the streets as a prostitute, been the victim of abuse, served time in jail, been married four times and managed to find the time to have four children.

Played by Emma Atkins, Charity is the current landlady of The Woolpack, which she runs with son Ryan Stocks. She’s now under 100 episodes shy of the 3000 mark.

    bob_hope
Bob has given us some good laughs over the years (Credit: ITV)

Longest-serving Emmerdale characters: 20. Bob Hope

Cheeky chap Bob Hope has providing entertainment in Emmerdale for 24 years. That’s a lot of laughs!

He made his debut on September 19, 2000. Back then Bob was working as a stocking salesman and made an instant impression on postmistress Viv Windsor. The flirty pair went on to marry, and Viv became the fourth Mrs Hope. She wasn’t the last though, Bob was also hitched to Brenda Walker for about five minutes until she found out he was sleeping with Laurel Thomas. Yes, despite his cringey character, Bob is quite the ladies’ man.

Actor Tony Audenshaw will be celebrating his quarter of a century on the show next year, and is approaching his 3000th episode. Now that calls for a double celebration!

Jamie comes clean in Classic Emmerdale

With Bob’s money in his account, Jamie makes plans to leave the village but Bob catches him mid-flit and demands to know what’s going on. Jamie is forced to admit that he’s locked in a custody battle with his ex-girlfriend over their dog, Snoop.

Bob’s dubious about Jamie’s tall tale but Jamie begs him to believe him, piling on the emotional blackmail. When Bob admits he’s finding it hard to trust his son, Jamie lashes out, telling his dad he’s a terrible role model.

Hurt, Bob offers the money, but tells Jamie if he takes it, that’s goodbye. Jamie takes the cash.

Later Bob tells Viv that he can’t risk being a rubbish dad again – he announces the babymaking is off!

With Jamie on his way to the station, Viv begs Dawn to help her – she wants Bob and Jamie to make up so babies are back on the agenda! Dawn agrees on condition Viv lets her drive to the station. Viv’s impressed with Dawn’s driving.

Jamie decides to stay in Emmerdale. He apologises to Bob and returns the money. Bob’s pleased. Jamie’s worried about Snoop and Viv tells him he’ll have to earn the money for the dog the proper way.

Caleb Miligan: Vendetta against Kim, relationship with brother Cain and mysterious daughter Steph

Caleb Miligan in Emmerdale is a successful, but ruthless, businessman with an eye for the ladies.

A vendetta against Kim Tate brought him to the village. However it wasn’t clear at first how they were connected. Soon all was revealed about Caleb and his connections to Emmerdale.

Now Caleb’s playing happy families with the Dingles, but his weird obsession with Kim isn’t going anywhere.

Who is Caleb Miligan in Emmerdale?

Caleb is the son of Faith Dingle and was conceived during her affair with Frank Tate in the summer of 1975. Faith gave birth to Caleb when she was in prison and he was taken into care.

Growing up in the foster system, Caleb had an unstable and lonely childhood. He was estranged from his older brother and sister, Cain and Chas Dingle – the latter only learning of his existence in 2022. He reconnected with them as adults, but it’s been a rocky road to cordial family relations!

Caleb is married to Ruby Fox-Miligan. They’re childhood sweethearts and Ruby walked away from her cruel but rich parents to be with Caleb.

The pair are parents to son Nicky who left the village after being fed up with his manipulative mum and dad. And it was recently revealed they also have a daughter – Steph – who’s not talking to her parents, either.

Steph’s been mentioned so many times recently, she must be on her way to the village soon!

Caleb has a weakness for women and has enjoyed romantic liaisons with Leyla Harding and Charity Dingle. Most recently he embarked on a high risk affair with Tracy Robinson – the wife of his nephew, Nate.

    Caleb Miligan arrives in Emmerdale

Caleb turned up in the Dales on Christmas Day 2022. He was discovered by Chas standing at the grave of their mother, Faith Dingle, who’d recently passed away from breast cancer.

Caleb’s arrival threw the Dingles into crisis, as it transpired Cain had lied to Caleb that their mother had died 30 years previously.

The brothers’ feud rumbled on for a few months, but they reconciled after Caleb helped get Cain’s young son Kyle Winchester out of youth offenders when he admitted to the murder of Al Chapman.

The road was rocky, with Cain feeling obliged to take Nate’s side after Caleb broke up his nephew’s marriage. But they seem back on track again now.

    Caleb’s vendetta against Kim Tate

Caleb was harbouring a huge secret when he showed up in the village – he was the son of Frank Tate.

The-then owner of Home Farm suffered a fatal heart attack in 1997 was left to die by his former wife Kim Tate. Having learnt the truth, Caleb vowed to avenge his father’s death.

He roped his son, Nicky Miligan, into the plan, and together they plotted to take Kim for every penny. Gay Nicky even pretended to be straight to woo Gabby Thomas so he could get his hands on her shares of the Tate empire. However guilt soon got the better of him when his ex-boyfriend returned and wanted to make a go of things.

Caleb’s meddling resulted in Moira Dingle having to sell her farm. But Caleb was caught out at the eleventh hour when Kim realised he was stealing from her.

With his true identity revealed, Caleb set about making an enemy of just about everyone in the village. He ended up being pushed off a ridge by an unknown assailant.

This person was later revealed to be Nicky, who’d had enough of his father’s scheming. Caleb made a full recovery and chose not to shop his own son to the cops.

    His steamy affairs

Smooth-talking Caleb doesn’t have any difficulty in attracting members of the opposite sex.

He’s bedded both Leyla Harding and Charity Dingle, and then started a torrid affair with Tracy Robinson – who happened to be married to his nephew, Nate, at the time.

Unable to resist their feelings for one another, Caleb and Tracy started sneaking around in October 2023. But their affair was outed in dramatic fashion by Caleb’s vengeful wife Ruby at Belle and Tom Dingle’s wedding.

    Reunited with Ruby

Caleb has always been vocal about the fact he has a wife, but viewers were led to believe he was estranged from Ruby Fox-Miligan.

Turned out, he was lying about that, too.

Her arrival in January 2024 gave everyone a shock when Nate discovered Caleb and Ruby romping on the sofa of Mill Cottage. Their relationship is full of fire and passion, but on paper, Caleb and Ruby are total opposites.

She’s from a respectable family and he’s a bad boy, done good. The couple have been together since they were teenagers .

Ruby was forced by her family to choose between them and Caleb, and she picked him.

Although they don’t have an ‘open marriage’, Ruby is aware her husband has had flings with other women while she’s been absent from his life. Tracy was a particularly painful episode for her as she could see he’d developed feelings for her and it wasn’t just another fling.

But Caleb recently lied to Ruby about her dying mum, and pocketed £100,000 from his mother-in-law, and lied about that, too. Ruby’s devastated by her husband’s

Matty and Moira plan a trip

Moira previously received news of a cancellation at the hospital and was told she could have her operation the following day. However, that same day, she received a call from Debbie Dingle informing her of Zak’s death.

With the family mourning the Dingle patriarch, Moira decided to cancel the operation in order to support husband Cain and the rest of the Dingle family.

This week, a new date is given. Then, next week, despite reservations, Matty and Moira decide to go ahead with their plan to go and visit Adam. But Cain is surprised to hear this news and struggles at the prospect of Moira going away.

Emmerdale affairs: Kim Tate and Dave Glover

Kim and Dave’s affair started out as a purely physical attraction. She was bored in her marriage to Tate patriarch Frank, and farmhand Dave was, well, irresistible.

In Dave, Kim found the excitement she’d been craving. The insatiable lovers got it on all over the place – rolling around in the hay at the stables of Home Farm, to spending nights in swanky hotels.

But what began as a bit of fun soon developed into something more. Kim and Dave fell in love, but were busted when Frank planted hidden cameras in Dave’s cottage. Shortly afterwards, Kim discovered she was pregnant and hoped the baby was Dave’s. She gave birth to a son, who she named James, and was devastated to learn he was actually Frank’s.

Dave went on to marry Kathy Bates in secret, but his heart was still with Kim. The pair made plans to run away together, but their affair came to a tragic end when Dave was killed rescuing James from a fire at Home Farm.

Kim was devastated by Dave’s death, and many fans still believe he was the love of her life.

The chemistry between Tara and Biff was electric (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

Lady Tara Oakwell and Biff Fowler

Lady Tara was another posh lass who liked a bit of rough. Who remembers her romance with Biff Fowler?

The unlikely couple grew close after Tara, who’d been stripped of her licence for drink driving, asked Biff if he’d be her chauffeur. But it wasn’t long before they were driving each other wild.

After weeks of keeping their fling under wraps, it became public knowledge. But when Tara, who was lady of Home Farm at the time, was forced to evict several locals from their homes, Biff finished with her.

Tara moved on and accepted a marriage proposal from Michael Thornfield, a wealthy Lord who was a friend of her late father’s. But he was no Biff. The night before the wedding, Tara ended up back in bed with her former lover. She told Biff they could carry on their affair behind Michael’s back, but he wasn’t willing to be second best.

In the end Tara chose money over love and went ahead with marrying Michael. And in case, you’re wondering, it didn’t last.

    Charity Dingle and Zoe Tate

Charity kept it in the family when she cheated on Chris Tate with his sister, Zoe.

Zoe was horrified when she found out her brother was dating a Dingle. The thought of the former prostitute getting her mitts on Home Farm did not sit well, so Zoe tried to bribe Charity into dumping Chris.

The truth of it was Zoe was jealous because she had the hots for Charity. And it turned out Charity felt the same when she put the lips on Zoe during a heated row.

The ladies started sleeping together, but Charity ended their lesbian fling when Zoe started getting too clingy. Zoe got her revenge by recording Charity confessing to their affair and used it to blackmail her with.

Charity was forced to come clean to Chris, but he forgave her betrayal.

Emmerdale affairs: Robert Sugden and Katie Addyman

Back when Robert Sugden had a different face (played by actor Karl Davies), he set his sights on Katie Addyman.

His initial motive for seducing Katie was good old fashioned revenge. She was engaged to his adoptive brother, Andy, who Robert blamed for the death of their mother, Sarah.

But as their affair continued, Robert caught feelings for Katie, and vice versa. The lovers couldn’t keep their hands off one another and even slept together the night before Katie’s wedding to Andy.

Katie tried to make her marriage work, but she and Robert soon resumed relations. Andy discovered what had been going on after finding a goodbye note from his wife. He confronted Katie and Robert, who admitted everything.

Next it was Andy’s turn for revenge. He plotted to shoot Robert, but ended up gunning down their dad, Jack, who thankfully survived. Katie and Robert stayed together for a while, and even got engaged. But it all came to a messy end when Katie discovered Robert had cheated with Sadie King. She left him – and the village.

Angie Renoylds and Cain Dingle in Emmerdale

    Cain Dingle and Angie Reynolds

Cain’s always had a thing for married women. Back in 2001, he began a torrid affair with police officer, Angie Reynolds.

Angie had resisted Cain’s come on for months, but after finding out her own husband was cheating, Angie decided to get her own back. Sleeping with a notorious criminal gave Angie a buzz, but the excitement soon wore off.

Angie dumped Cain, but he got his own back by bedding her teenage daughter, Ollie. Ew.

In revenge, Angie made Cain believe she wanted him back, then set him up for a robbery. The idea was that Cain would be arrested in possession of stolen goods, but the plan went horribly wrong when Angie was fatally injured in a car chase.

She died in Cain’s arms, as he pleaded with her to tell him she loved him. But those three little words never came.

    Debbie Dingle and Ross Barton

There’s something about bad boy Ross Barton that gets women going. Just ask Debbie Dingle.

In 2015, mum-of-two Deb was engaged to Pete Barton. But that didn’t stop her slipping into the sack with his younger brother. Yes, we’ve got another love triangle involving siblings.

Ross and Debbie fell head over heels and decided to run away before her wedding. But Cain ruined their plan by announcing Ross was the father of Debbie’s half-brother, Moses.

Debbie went ahead with marrying Pete, and Cain kidnapped Ross to stop him outing the affair. But the truth always finds a way of coming out, and as the newlyweds took to the floor for their first dance, Aaron accidentally played a recording of Ross and Debbie discussing their betrayal.

Pete proceeded to beat Ross to a pulp, and dumped his body in the woods. Ross returned months later and tried to have Pete killed, but his unhinged behaviour was a wake-up call for Debbie. She took her kids and got as far away from Ross as possible.

Emmerdale affairs: Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle

Robron still has to be the most talked about affair in Emmerdale history.

A whole decade has passed since Robert and Aaron’s first kiss on that country lane, but it could have been yesterday. Fans were caught up in the thrill of watching the forbidden lovers sneaking around the village as they tried to keep their fling under wraps.

Robert, who was engaged, then married, to millionairess Chrissie White, went to great lengths to protect his secret. He killed sister-in-law Katie Sugden, and tried to bump off Aaron’s stepdad, Paddy Kirk.

In the end, Aaron couldn’t take any more lies. He exposed their deception to Chrissie, who showed Robert the door.

After a lot of make ups and breaks ups, Robron went on to marry – twice. But their great love story came to a sad end when Robert was jailed for manslaughter and told Aaron not to wait for him.

Their loyal followers are still holding out hope for a reunion one day.

Paddy Kirk and Tess Harris in Emmerdale
Paddy cheated on Rhona with teaching assistant Tess (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

    Paddy Kirk and Tess Harris

Village vet Paddy shocked everyone (and himself) when he cheated on wife Rhona during a lad’s night out.  At the time it seemed Paddy was an unlikely adulterer. But he did have previous form. Hands up who remembers his icky fling with postmistress Viv Windsor when he was married to second wife, Emily?

Anyway, the lady who Paddy got jiggy with in a back seat of a car was Tess Harris. She was also married, and as it later turned out the teacher of Paddy’s stepson Leo. What a small world!

Afterwards, Paddy and Tess regretted what they’d done. But they couldn’t deny the attraction between them and embarked on a full blown affair. After weeks of sneaking about, Tess grew tired of being the ‘other woman’. She decided to tell Rhona everything, but was run over by a drunken Kirin Kotecha enroute.

Paddy and Rhona found Tess dying in the middle of the road. And as Rhona rung for an ambulance, Tess confessed her love to Paddy before losing consciousness.

Days after Tess’s death, Paddy finally admitted they’d been seeing each other. His betrayal ended up pushing Rhona into the arms of Tess’s wicked widower, Pierce. But that’s a whole other story.

Cain massages Moira's shoulders in Emmerdale as she looks worried
Cain and Moira’s love story started out as an extramarital affair (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale affairs: Moira Barton and Cain Dingle

Coira have been raising temperatures in Emmerdale since 2011.

At the time Moira was married to her childhood sweetheart, John, but couldn’t resist the lure of a certain mechanic. Cain and Moira first got it on in his garage, then wherever else the mood took. Even in her marital bed at Butlers.

Despite Moira pleading him not to, Cain told John what they’d been up to. The Barton marriage was thrown into crisis, but just as Moira and John started to work things out he was killed in a car crash.

After John’s death, Moira resumed her affair with Cain, who proposed in October 2013. The couple got hitched the following year, but Cain quickly forgot his vow to be faithful by having affairs with Charity Dingle and Harriet Finch.

Let’s not pretend Moira has been a saint though. Her sordid fling with Nate Robinson (who turned out to be Cain’s long-lost son) tore the family apart. But despite all the betrayals, Coira are still together and in it for the long run.

Just no, Al and Chas (Credit: ITV)
Just no, Al and Chas (Credit: ITV)

    Chas Dingle and Al Chapman

Chas has always had lousy taste in men, but she really lost the plot when she decided to jump into bed with shady Al Chapman.

There was a time that Chas couldn’t stand Al, but that loathing ended up turning to lust. Chas couldn’t get enough of the rogue as she became swept up in their affair. She fell for Al and made plans to leave her marriage to Paddy and run away with him.

But Chas’s selfish actions had catastrophic repercussions. She ended up missing her mum Faith’s final moments due to being in bed with her lover, which left her heartbroken.

It also proved to be Al’s undoing, and he was shot dead during an altercation with Chas’s brother, Cain. But in a shock twist, it turned out Cain’s young son, Kyle was the killer.

Even after his death, Chas carried on lying to Paddy about her involvement with Al, but he worked it out for himself. Chas begged for forgiveness, but there was no going back. Paddy filed for divorce, and she was disowned by her disgusted family.

Was it all worth it for a bit of rumpy pumpy? Nah!

  • Emmerdale review of the week: a sad goodbye, an unexpected arrival and a huge Dingle mystery!

Emmerdale review of the week: a sad goodbye, an unexpected arrival and a huge Dingle mystery!

Our Emmerdale review this week is a bit tearful! Give us a minute while we recover after this week’s super emotional episodes.

The Dingles did Zak proud didn’t they? It was the perfect send-off for the original Dingle, with lots of memories, a family member coming out of the woodwork and even an impromptu rendition of Hillybilly Rock.

Here’s what we thought about the whole emotional week in our Emmerdale review.

Sam, Belle and Cain looking sad
Understated but emotional – we were in bits over Zak’s death (Credit: ITV)

    Zak’s death

There is, of course, a place in soap for the big stunts, the dramatic episodes, and the over-the-top action. But there’s also a place for the quieter moments and that was proved brilliantly by this week.

Cain sharing the news that his dad had died with the family – while music played over the top so we didn’t hear what he said, nor how they reacted, was understated and so very effective, we’re choking up all over again just thinking about it.

Emmerdale's Dingles and Kim are mourning Zak in the pub
Zak’s send-off was unconventional but perfect (Credit: ITV)

    And Zak’s funeral

Zak was never one to be conventional in life, and his plans for his send-off were just as different! He had left strict rules about what he wanted and the family did as he asked. He was brought back from Aberdeen, drummed through the village, and buried at home. Just as he’d asked.

We especially loved the Dingles getting the villagers to cough up for Zak’s celebration, and PC Swirling showing up to pay his respects. Perfect!

    Tina Dingle
    Tina’s back! (Credit: ITV)

    Tina’s arrival

Back in the day (and it really was way, way back in the day) we loved Tina Dingle so we were equally excited and nervous about her returning. Turns out, we needn’t have been nervous at all because she was perfect.

Newcomer Samantha Power captured just enough of original actress Jacqueline Pirie‘s mannerisms to the role to remind us who Tina was. And she brought some of her own too. And we cheered when Lydia shoved her in the mud! Don’t mess with Lyds, Tina.

    You’ll learn.

    The Dingle family
Some of the extended Dingle family were at the funeral. Some of them didn’t bother to turn up *hard stare at Rhona* (Credit: ITV)

Missing Dingles in our Emmerdale review

The only thing that didn’t sit quite right with Zak’s family funeral was well, the missing members of the family. Where was Rhona? Or Mack? The kids weren’t there either – no April or Leo, Kyle or Isaac, nor Moses. It seemed odd for them not to be there, no matter how quickly the funeral had been arranged. We definitely missed Debbie, too.

Nate on Emmerdale, looking worried (Credit: ITV/EI)
    We’re still hoping Nate’s alive! (Credit: ITV/EI)

The Nate mystery continues in our Emmerdale review

Right, we’re sorry to keep going on about this, but the whole Nate thing is really odd, and we’re still not entirely convinced he’s alive. It sounds silly – and the fly in the ointment of this theory is the message he supposedly sent Tracy saying he was settling into life in Shetland – but go with us here.

His exit was so unsatisfactory, the barn fire was RIGHT THERE, and it’s pretty odd that he didn’t even reply to Tracy’s message telling him his grandad was dead.

Maybe Tracy’s holding him hostage, like Pierce did with Vanessa. Or perhaps he’s hiding in the cellar like Harriet Finch did, or maybe he did die in the barn fire, and it’s just no one has thought to look for him. Or maybe this is all just wishful thinking!

Has Caleb got away with deceiving Ruby? (Credit: ITV)
Give it a rest, Caleb (Credit: ITV)

    Caleb’s relentless vendetta

Caleb keeping Ruby from her dying mum, lying about it, taking a huge chunk of money from his mother-in-law, lying about that too, and generally acting in an unforgiveable fashion is awful. Awful!

We can’t see how Ruby can possibly get over this. Caleb has done a terrible thing. And for what exactly? For some weird vendetta against Kim who barely knows he exists. Get over it, Caleb. Time to move on!

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: A perfect end to Zak’s farewell as Sam, Cain and Belle paid a final tribute

Emmerdale tonight was the last farewell to Zak Dingle as Cain, Sam and Belle reminisced over their dad in a near-perfect three-hander episode (with a bit of Lydia thrown in!).

Each Dingle sibling had their issues to air and each needed reassurance from their relatives. But with flashbacks to scenes featuring Steve Halliwell, it felt like a fitting end to the week’s episodes.

Here’s a rundown of Emmerdale tonight, Friday October 18.

    Cain confessed

As the revelries continued in the Woolpack, Cain returned to Wishing Well to find Sam and Belle waiting to get through to him. Cain made to leave, but Belle locked them all in. Sam then pulled a bottle of whiskey out of Zak’s secret stash and their evening began.

The three siblings talked and reminisced and Sam said Zak saw Cain as head of the family. Cain insisted it was rubbish and didn’t mean anything. He declared he couldn’t do it and confided Moira had cancelled her operation because she knew he couldn’t cope.

Sam then gave his brother a hug, which Cain did not take too well and called him a fat egg! That Dingle charm, eh?!

Cain said he knows he can’t cope when things get real – he runs or lashes out. But Sam and Belle insisted Cain was the man for the job – Zak knew it, they all knew it.

Sam was sad in Emmerdale tonight

It was Sam’s turn to lament his failures next. He felt he had let Lydia and Samson down and he was a joke. He was sure Zak could have handled it all better than him.

But Cain insisted they couldn’t sit there and pretend Zak could do no wrong. He referenced the time Zak had almost killed him and Belle lost it at Cain for ruining their dad’s memory.

But Cain told how he had forgiven Zak because he knew how sorry he was. He said Zak didn’t always have the answers, but he never stopped trying – and Sam was just like him, a great dad. Belle soon forgave Cain and all was okay again. Phew.

    Belle’s fears

Belle also worried about what Zak would have thought about her not getting away from Tom sooner, but Cain assured her Zak thought she was the strongest person he knew.

Then a rendition of the absolute banger Hillbilly Rock will have put a smile on fans’ faces after many felt it was missing from Zak’s send-off episode last night.

Cain eventually read out the speech that he had been unable to give at the graveside due to being overwhelmed by his grief. And in amidst it we were treated to old footage of Zak – when Cain discovered he was his dad, offering comfort to Sam and arguing with teenage Belle. There were also more jovial clips of him with the family, smiling, laughing, joking and of course, fighting – the true Dingle way! Zak was even heard talking about love.

A final decision in Emmerdale tonight

All three of them woke up on the sofa having fallen asleep, with Cain in Zak’s chair – symbolising, perhaps, he had taken up his place as head of the family.

Sam certainly believed so as when they then went to Zak’s grave, Sam placed Zak’s hat on Cain’s head. But Cain took it off (although he plans to keep it!) and decided the three of them should split the head of the family role. Because no one person can ever replace Zak Dingle.
