The next day, Katie’s reluctance to move away becomes more obvious and it’s best mate Chas who twigs that it’s because she still has feelings for Andy.

She warns Katie that their relationship didn’t work last time so why would it be any different this time round and urges her to make a new start in Greece.

When Andy visits later, he tells Katie she can stay with him while she makes a decision about her future, but Katie – with Chas’s warning in her ears – turns him down.

Nicola makes a move on Ivan

Paul apologises to Ivan for getting angry, but admits he was hurt. The couple tentatively start to make up. Ivan then receives a call from an upset Nicola. Realising that she needs support, he heads off.

Nicola over plays the victim card and snuggles into Ivan. As Nicola downs her wine, she says Ivan is too good for Paul. Ivan thinks she is joking and is amused.

A drunk Ivan decides to take a shower and then get an early night, but Nicola has other ideas and calls out to him. Worried about the urgency, Ivan heads downstairs dressed in a towel. Dressed in only saucy underwear, Nicola seizes her opportunity and makes a move on Ivan.

Ivan is mortified and tells Nicola he loves Paul, but Nicola refuses to believe it. However, Ivan is firm with Nicola and urges her to leave.

Meanwhile, arriving home, Leslie spots Nicola and a partially dressed Ivan through the window. Nicola hides her humiliation and lets Lesley think that she and Ivan are having an affair.

Later Ivan cruelly blasts Nicola when she tries to apologise. Lesley demands an explanation from Nicola and threatens to tell Paul unless she hands over Mulberry Cottage to Simon. However, Nicola refuses to be blackmailed and tells Lesley to tell anyone she wants.

Lesley shares the news with Rodney. When he confronts his daughter, Nicola expertly plays the victim card again and lets Rodney think Ivan took advantage of her.

Jo is scathing of Toni’s desperation and is relieved when Hari sits tight. As the girls leave, Hari is confused by Paddy’s insistence that they follow. Seeing Paddy’s mooning face as he watches Toni, Hari realises that Paddy is in love.

Emmerdale star Sammy Winward in profile: ‘Secret’ marriage to childhood sweetheart and rumoured ‘feud’ with teenage daughter

Sammy Winward played Katie Sugden in Emmerdale for almost 15 years. She’s got a grown-up daughter, an impressive acting CV, and she’s not yet 40!

Her life isn’t as dramatic as alter ego Katie’s was, but there are some similarities! Here’s her story.

    Sammy’s early years

Emmerdale star Sammy Winward was born in Bolton and started acting as a child. She won the role of Katie Addyman in Emmerdale when she was just 15.

Katie Sugden’s dramatic years in Emmerdale

Katie Addyman first appeared on screen back in 2001. She and Andy Sugden hit it off and fell in love. They even moved in together when they were just 17. But things got tricky and Katie ended up having an affair with Andy’s brother, Robert.

Katie and Robert got engaged but he cheated with Sadie King, and Katie left the village for a while.

In real life, Sammy was pregnant with her daughter, and was off on maternity leave!

A few months later after being involved in a car accident, Katie came back to Emmerdale. The crash killed her dad and the hospital called Andy as her next of kin.

Katie and Andy tried to make their marriage work but Andy eventually cheated with Jo Stiles and they parted.

When Katie offered to be a surrogate for Grayson and Perdita Hyde-Sinclair, she didn’t realise how unstable their marriage was until it was too late and she was pregnant. After a lot of drama, Katie gave the baby boy to Perdita.

Katie married Declan Macey but their marriage was rocky from the start and when Declan covered up the discovery of a body on his land, Katie left him.

    Andy again

More ups and downs followed, until eventually Katie and Andy reconciled and got married again. But Robert was back in the village and with the brothers’ feud reignited, Katie was on a mission to discover who Robert was having an affair with.

When she found Robert and Aaron kissing, the secret was out! Katie took a photo on her phone and when Aaron left, she confronted Robert.

He turned aggressive trying to get Katie’s phone and when she lunged at him, he shoved her and she fell through the floor and died. Robert told Aaron it was an accident and the pair covered up the crime.

In 2017, Sammy married her childhood sweetheart Martyn Hardy. The pair had dated as teens and rekindled their romance later in life. Sammy didn’t reveal she had wed until four years after their big day. She shared a photo on her Instagram feed and wrote: “Six years today since I got engaged to the love of my life, four years married, 24 years of friendship and still going strong. Here’s to 24+ more.”

Fans were stunned as they didn’t even realise she had a boyfriend, let alone a husband! “Well done for being able to keep it private,” one commented on the post.

Sammy Winward reportedly in feud with daughter

Recent reports suggest there is a bit of a family rift between Mia and her parents. Back in the summer, Mia told The Sun her mum and dad don’t approve of her posting content to OnlyFans.

Speaking of her mum, Mia claimed: “She said some pretty mean things when we did last speak, it was awful. But I absolutely love my mum, I love all of my family but none of them speak to me now.

“I will always love and appreciate them. I hope that one day we can rebuild our relationship and move on.”

Although Sammy has not commented on the interview, back in 2021, she told Loose Women how she and Mia were like “best friends”.

Sammy said: “I always thought, ‘Oh my god I’m only going to be 36/37 when she is 18. And I’m nearly there now. It’s just crazy because we just feel like best mates really.

“Obviously there is the mother and daughter relationship but we’re more like best mates,” she added.

Louise Appleton in Emmerdale: Woolpack landlady, murderer and her sudden exit

Louise Appleton definitely made her mark on the village when she arrived in Emmerdale back in 2001. She joined the team at The Woolpack as a barmaid and quickly got to know all of the locals.

Louise regularly found herself involved in drama in the Dales, whether it be a murder or breaking up a relationship. She was last seen on-screen in 2008, but has been mentioned on a handful of occasions.

So, what is Louise Appleton’s story?

    Louise Appleton arrives in Emmerdale

The locals were taken by surprise in 2001 when Louise, who hails from Australia, arrived in Emmerdale. She took up a job as a temporary barmaid at The Woolpack and quickly befriended Diane Sugden.

Louise’s stint in the village began with her dating Rodney Blackstock. Their romance was short-lived as Rodney was still besotted with his ex-wife Diane. When Louise found out Diane and Rodney had slept together, she ended her romance with Rodney but forgave Diane.

    Ray Mullan’s murder

Louise dated shady businessman Ray Mullan and their relationship was packed full of drama. Having quickly moved in together, Louise was smitten with Ray. However, he wasn’t the man she thought he was.

In a bid to control Louise, he convinced her she was being stalked so that she would agree to move to Italy with him. On their way to the airport, Louise found out Ray was actually her stalker.

A fight ensued between the pair and the car crashed. Ray was knocked unconscious and Louise fled back to Mill Cottage. Ray woke and followed her and another fight broke out. It ended with Louise killing Ray by accident on Boxing Day in 2002. With the help of Terry Woods, Louise concealed his death.

She struggled in the aftermath of Ray’s murder and became withdrawn and cold towards her friends, most notably Diane. Louise then began seeing married man Ronnie Marsden, leaving everyone unimpressed.

    Louise and Terry’s on-off relationship

Terry was besotted with Louise since meeting her, but his feelings weren’t reciprocated. However, Louise became jealous when Terry moved on with Dawn Hope and eventually realised she did have feelings for him.

Terry and Louise finally started dating after he dumped Dawn. The couple decided to buy Alan Turner’s B&B together. However, Louise began an affair with Matthew King, who was helping organise the couples mortgage.

She eventually dumped Terry in a bid to be with Matthew, but he ended their fling days later. Terry refused to take Louise back.

Louise struggled to establish a relationship with Martin’s daughter Kayleigh, despite the youngster being fond of her. The couple were happy up until Martin discovered Louise’s involvement in Ray’s death.

He vowed not to report Louise but ended their relationship and moved out of The Woolpack. She blamed Diane for their split and sold her share of the pub as a way of punishing Diane.

    Louise and Jamie in Emmerdale

In 2008, Louise began dating Jamie Hope. Their romance became a huge talking point in the village due to their age-gap, but they shrugged off the backlash.

Jamie proposed to Louise after just months of dating and they decided to get married at Christmas. She called off the wedding after Jamie questioned her about a friend in Australia called Jonty, who people had thought she was having an affair with.

Louise insisted that she’d won a beauty contest while in Australia and Jonty was her manager. Jonty then came to the village and after promising Louise more work, she agreed to head back to Oz with him.

    Louise’s exit

On the day of Louise’s planned departure to Australia, Jamie tried to track her down in a bid to win her back. He eventually found her and proposed to her again.

Jamie and Louise rekindled their relationship and decided to jet to Australia together. They left for good in 2008.

Jamie returned in June 2009 without Louise. He claimed she had found a new man and dumped him.

Sugdens v Kings in Classic Emmerdale spoilers

Andy and Daz decide to take revenge on the Kings as payback for them getting away with contaminating their water supply with antifreeze. They break into the Kings’ site office and destroy everything. Later, when Jimmy sees the devastation in the office, he vows that the Sugdens won’t get away with it. However, Matthew says he will deal with it as Jimmy messes up everything he touches.

Matthew congratulates Jack on the Sugdens having the last laugh by trashing the office and warns that they’re even now. A troubled Jack has no idea what Matthew is talking about, but he soon realises that his boys have been up to no good and he heads to Butler’s Farm to confront them. Furious with Andy and Daz, Jack makes them promise they won’t do anything like that again.

Meanwhile, Matthew is feeling the weight of responsibility. The environmental officer tells him that high concentrations of antifreeze were found in the soil on the development, but as there isn’t any hard evidence, nothing else can be done. Matthew is happy, but covers his smugness.

Katie is in a serious car accident

The police inform Andy that Katie has been in a serious car accident which killed her father. He heads to the hospital in Leeds where Katie is in a coma.

Andy spends the night at Katie’s bedside where a nurse tells Andy that Katie’s chances of survival are good. The nurse encourages Andy to chat with Katie as a familiar voice can be soothing, but Andy doesn’t know what to say.

Meanwhile, at Butler’s Farm, Jack updates Daz on Katie’s condition. While sympathetic, Daz wants to know what it has to do with Andy. Jack is firm that Andy being there for Katie doesn’t mean that she’ll be back in his life for good.

Back at the hospital, the alarms start sounding and Katie is rushed into theatre due to abdominal bleeding. After a tense few hours, Katie is brought back to the ward. Andy feels silly chatting away to her, but then she starts to wake up.

Katie is confused at first but is glad to see a friendly face in Andy. As her memories start to return, Katie asks after her dad. Andy tells Katie the truth – that Brian died in the car crash. Katie is devastated at the news and breaks down. Believing it to be her fault, distraught Katie clings to Andy.

Andy is happy to be Katie’s rock but is struggling to keep a lid on his feelings for his estranged wife.

    Zara causes a stir

The new temp at the King’s office, Zara, causes a stir. But her obvious charms go unnoticed by Matthew. Jimmy, however, is enjoying having a pretty girl to impress and invites her to the pub to celebrate his birthday. In the pub with the whole King clan, Zara impresses Tom.

Carl tells Matthew that Zara would be good for him and he should move on. Thinking about Sadie, Matthew dismisses his brother’s advice and slips out.

Later, Matthew is alone at the office when Zara enters. Zara mocks Jimmy’s attempts to impress her and flirts with Matthew as she asks if there is a special lady in his life. Matthew is wary of the questions and, thinking about Sadie again, he brushes her off.

Alan tries to make amends to Steph

In the wake of his injury, Alan feels terrible about not believing Steph. He worries that maybe he did know about Terence’s abuse but could have buried it in the back of his mind.

Hoping to make amends, he tells Steph he wants her to be joint owner of the B&B. Sickened that he thinks he can buy her back, Steph rejects his offer.

Afterwards, she tells the police that she’s decided to drop the charges against Terence. The police are concerned when they are unable to find and question Terence. Covering for his absence, Betty and Alan claim he’s run off. When the police ask him about the injury to his head, Alan tells them that he took a fall.

Later, Betty visits Steph and tells her that her father needs her, begging her not to let Alan. And, when Robert turns up at the B&B with her statement to sign, Steph is thrown. She tells him that she’s decided to drop the charges against Terence.

In the Woolpack, Adam tries to cheer Steph up, reminding her that Terence has gone for good. Looking to the future, Steph starts to reconsider Alan’s B&B offer.

    Jasmine and Daz play detective

Hari tells the Sugdens that their water supply has been contaminated with antifreeze. He assures Andy and Jack that there will be a thorough investigation of how the water came to be contaminated.

When he tells them that they’ll be looking upstream, Jack notes that the Kings’ development is in that direction. Overhearing, Daz decides to play detective. Enlisting Jasmine, the pair pay a visit to the Kings’ development, where they find some rusty barrels.

Believing the barrels to be the root of the Sugdens’ problem, Daz takes a picture on his phone. However, Jimmy and Matthew catch him and Jasmine, and march them both into a portacabin – where Matthew destroys the phone.

Terrified, Daz and Jasmine flee. Meanwhile, Matthew asks Jimmy about the antifreeze, who claims that he asked for it to be moved ages ago. Fuming, Matthew forces Jimmy to move the evidence.

Back at the farm, Jack is angry as the Kings get off Scot-free. Convinced that the Kings were responsible, he and Andy show an environmental officer around. Meanwhile, dejected Daz is convinced that he’s spoiled the family’s chance to nail the Kings. Jasmine convinces him to tell Andy what happened.

Later, at the Kings’ development, the environmental officer questions Matthew and Jimmy, who give him a tour of the site. The officer is suspicious as he notes signs of disturbance at the ditch, but the brothers feign innocence. The officer takes samples from the ditch away for testing.

Back at the farm, a furious Jack tells Andy and Daz that the officer doesn’t hold much hope. Convinced that the Kings have gotten away with it, Jack confronts Matthew in the pub, demanding he tells the truth. Jack is left helpless as an unruffled Matthew denies all knowledge.
