Inside the life of Emmerdale Michelle Hardwick: From relationship with Emmerdale boss to other soap roles

Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick has been on our screens as Vanessa Woodfield since 2012, and has been at the centre of some huge storylines.

Vanessa has been a fan-favourite for years. From her relationship with Charity to her emotional cancer storyline, fans love her. And after the recent death of her girlfriend, Suzy, she is once again thrown into centre stage. Especially as it looks set that she is going to have her heartbroken if she ever discovers the truth of Suzy and Mary.

From meeting her wife on Emmerdale, to raising their children together, let’s have a look at Michelle Hardwick’s life away from the Dales.

In reality, soapland is actually a small place, so it’s no surprise when stars have some cross-overs.

Before getting her role on Emmerdale, Michelle actually appeared on ITV’s other soap, Coronation Street in two different minor roles, in 1997 and 1998.

But it was her character in the TV series The Royal which worked as one of Michelle’s biggest roles. She starred as the character Lizzie Hopkirk – a huge hit with the fans!

Is Michelle in a relationship?

After coming out as lesbian in July 2013, Michelle confirmed she had been in a long-term relationship with music teacher, Rosie Nicholl.

The couple went on to get married in April 2015, but began divorce proceedings two years later, in 2017.

However, Michelle has happily moved on from her previous marriage. In October 2018 she revealed that she was in a relationship with then Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks.

A few months after going public the pair announced their engagement. And in September 2019, they tied the knot.

Dealing with trolls

In a sit-down interview with OK!, Michelle admitted she got a lot of abuse online after coming out.

She said: “The root of it all is always because I’m gay. I’m a gay woman. And it’s like, ‘Lesbians shouldn’t be on this earth’.”

The trolls were so extreme that once Michelle had to call the police after receiving death threats.

She explained: “We have had a bit of trolling over the years. And there have been certain times when police have had to be called. There have been some death threats.”

Michelle’s family life

In October 2020, Michelle gave birth to her and Kate’s first son, Edward. And then in November 2022, she gave birth to their daughter.

After she had their each of their kids, she took a break from Emmerdale to enjoy time being a mum. But Michelle returned to the show, and has slotted back in naturally.

Away from her relationship, the Emmerdale star has taken part in numerous Race For Life events near her home, raising money for Cancer Research UK. She has publicly spoken about her brother’s diagnosis and recovery from skin cancer.

Is Michelle leaving Emmerdale?

As of today (Sunday March 9), there have been no reports that suggest Michelle’s time on Emmerdale is over.

However, in recent months, her wife made the decision to leave Emmerdale and move to Coronation Street.

And with Suzy’s death having just taken place a few weeks ago, it seems unlikely that she would go anywhere anytime soon. Vanessa still has a lot of storylines to share with us! And while there have been some exit announcements lately, she does not appear to be one of them.

But while we hope we aren’t losing Vanessa, it seems an exit is always a possibility in SoapLand.

Whatâ€™s Next for Cain Dingle in Emmerdale? Fan theories on what the bad boy of the village will do next

It’s been a rough year so far, but things finally seem to be on the up for Cain Dingle in Emmerdale. Cain has been in a dark place ever since cheating on wife Moira in a fling with sister-in-law Ruby last year.

Since then, he’s wrestled with his guilt, managing to pull himself together enough to support Moira through her recovery and subsequent foll0w-up treatment. However, his dark secret came out on Valentine’s Day (how romantic) after a confrontation with Caleb aired his dirty laundry all over the village.

Cain confessed to Moira, who was devastated by his betrayal. While it looked for a while as though their marriage was over, the pair reconciled this week, putting Cain and Moira back on an even keel.

But what’s next for Cain Dingle? His marriage may have been saved, but there’s still much to come for the Dingle hardman…

Concentrate on rebuilding his family… carefully

First things first, Cain will need to start rebuilding his family. While Moira reassured him that he didn’t need to make it up to her – to “just make it work” – Cain will still want to rebuild a foundation of trust.

This includes Matty, who was fuming at the news that Moira had taken back Cain in spite of his betrayal. Cain was patient as Matty lashed out on Thursday, describing him as his son, in spite of all that had gone on.

“That Matty and Cain scene tonight was so lovely, I really need to see them have more of a bond in the coming months,” wrote one viewer.

But does Cain need to watch his back? One fan theory has suggested that Moira might not be quite so forgiving after all.

“Hmmmm I still think she’s up to something,” suggested one fan.

“Cain’s slow as hell. Although I don’t believe Moira for a second,” said another.

Hold a self-pity party after the death of Nate

One dark cloud over the horizon is the impending revelation that Nate is dead. In the aftermath of the limo crash last month, the soap confirmed that Nate is dead – and currently chained up in an icy lake.

With Nate’s death sure to come out eventually, Cain won’t take the news well – especially considering how they parted, with Cain beating him up after falsely accusing his son of seducing Moira again.

“Cain is gonna think worse about himself soon. The last time he saw him, he beat him up for something he didn’t do and never got to apologise to him,” one fan pointed out on Reddit.

Between feeling sorry for himself and caring for his sick wife, Cain has also had to contend with a murder cover-up. While John appeared to ease worried minds by showing them where he’d stashed the body (or did he?) Steph is still asking some difficult questions.

And some think that Cain will be the one to spill the beans about her granddad’s true nature.

â€œI think Cain is going to be the one who tells Steph the truth about Anthony raping her mother and his role her conception,â€ one fan shared on X.

Emmerdale flash-forwards suggest Cain puts Caleb in hospital… or worse

As their feud escalated last week, Cain issued his brother a chilling threat. This came as he learned Caleb had planned to frame him for Anthony’s murder.

And, with a flash-forward still to play out, fans know that Caleb will find himself flatlining in hospital later this year. Is this a result of Cain making good on his threat?

“I reckon the flash forward of Caleb flatlining in hospital is because he killed Nate, Cain finds out and puts him in a coma,” suggested one fan.

“Is Cain at Nate’s graveside and is that the reason Caleb in hospital? Because Cain found out he killed his son?” another asked, referencing the second flash-forward – which saw Cain looking distraught at a mystery grave.

Cain to leave Emmerdale?

In the run-up to the ice limo crash, many viewers stressed that the fan-favourite Dingle might be leaving the soap. Actor Jeff Hordley didn’t exactly do much to assuage those fears either, saying previously: â€œI worry all the time! â€¦Not all the time, thatâ€™s a little over the top.

He continued: â€œEvery time thereâ€™s news of this [exits] it can settle us as a cast because we know the shelf life of characters in not forever on soaps, and itâ€™s down to the producers and writers to steer the ship and take us in the direction they want to take us.â€

Cain may have survived the Valentine’s Day cull, but could a surprise exit be on the cards still?

Dominic Brunt in profile: Emmerdale co-star wife and horror movie side hustle

This month marks 28 years since Emmerdale cast member Dominic Brunt joined the show as adored Paddy Kirk. And nearly 30 years later, fans still love his character.

While he celebrates his Emmerdale anniversary, the star has taken a few breaks over the years to do different projects. But he always has ended up right back in the village.

So what is his life like away from the soap? From his Emmerdale breaks to his famous wife, let’s have a look.

Dominic’s career away from Emmerdale

In recent years, Dominic’s love for TV also progressed to behind the scenes projects.

As a big fan of horror, Dominic, along with on and off screen pal Mark Charnock, arranges an annual film festival in Leeds.

That’s not the only side career he has, buy he and his wife also embark on numerous projects together. This includes founding Mitchell Brunt Films, where his wife works as a producer and writer on several of the company’s films.

Despite these other opportunities, Dominic’s heart seems to lie with Emmerdale.

He spoke to Loose Women: “It takes two to four years to get the funding together. And sometimes films collapse, sometimes they go forward. But it can be a tricky situation.

“I don’t ever want to do one by halves. So I only do them every few years. I am happy with Emmerdale, and I really love it. I’m a big fan of the show, and I am very lucky. I have probably dodged a couple of bullets and I never take it for granted.”

Who is Dominic married to?

Dominic is married to fellow actress Joanne Mitchell, who has even starred on Emmerdale.

The couple both attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and have been married since 2003.

And if Joanne’s name sounds familiar with Emmerdale fans, that’s because she played Sandra Flaherty, Liv’s mum.

While they keep their relationship private, the couple have two sons: Mickey Joe and Danny Lee. However, while their exact ages are unknown, it’s believed they are teenagers.

Despite their private lives, Dominic shared on This Morning how they faced a health scare when Danny underwent heart surgery at eight months old.

He said: “It’s the most horrific thing to have to go through as a parent. But he’s football mad now – he is completely fine. He has to have a check up once a year for the rest of his life. At the time it was horrific, you’re in the eye of the storm. It was horrible. You think you are going to lose your son.”

Dominic’s Emmerdale breaks

While Emmerdale cast star Dominic Brunt confirmed his loyalties lie with the ITV soap, he has had a few breaks over the years.

Paddy has left our screens for a few short periods of time, most notably when he temporarily moved to Germany.

But it seems these breaks were so that Dominic could put more focus onto his horror movies that he makes alongside his wife.

And as he himself admitted he only does one every few years, it seems Paddy is safe in the village for a little while longer.

4 theories on how Gail Loman will leave Emmerdale 6 years after first appearance

The Emmerdale cast is getting smaller yet again, as Gail Loman, played by Rachael Gill-Davis is reportedly the next star to exit the show.Â

Gail first showed up on our screens briefly in 2019, before making a permanent comeback in 2023. Now, two years later she looks set to exit the village.

The Sun reported the news alleging that bosses felt her character wasn’t fitting into the village life. They said: “Rachael has loved her time on the show but itâ€™s time to go. Bosses felt the character wasnâ€™t inspiring much story and so it was all very amicable.”

But the question remains, how will Gail leave the show? Here’s some theories.

1. Could she head off to look after her son?

It was revealed that she and Ryan had a son, Oscar. And when Gail found out he needed a bone marrow transplant, she got tested to see if she could help.

Ryan discovered the truth, and Oscar had his surgery, and then wanted to know his parents. Initially his adoptive mum was against the idea, lying to all of them about it. But eventually, Oscar discovered the truth.

He began to visit the village and bonded with family members, until the story abruptly ended and was never picked back up.

So could Gail get news that Oscar needs her help and she leaves the village to help him? If so, would that mean an exit for Ryan too? He would want to help too.

2. Gail and Ryan break-up?

Other than Ryan, Gail doesn’t have any connections to the village. And so if they were to break-up, there would be nothing there for her anymore.

It wouldn’t be the first time she and Ryan have faced issues in their relationship. So, if this is the case, Gail might realise that the village feels like Ryan’s place, not hers.

This is probably the most likely theory on how she will go. Especially as the village is full of Dingles who are always going to take their own side.

3. Could Gail die?

While it would be a bold move for Emmerdale to kill of another cast member mere weeks after losing three huge characters, it’s not completely impossible.

We know that Nate’s murderer is still out there ominously sending gifts to Frankie and watching the lake. What would happen if Gail found out the truth? Could Nate’s killer strike again?

Perhaps Gail sees something she shouldn’t or works something out. But if someone is eager to cover their tracks, Gail could be joining Nate under the lake. And as it took months for us to even learn the truth about his death, it could be a while before anyone in the village knew of Gail’s.

4. Quiet off-screen exit

Unfortunately Gail hasn’t been used enough over the years, despite there being so much potential. And so it could be completely possible that Emmerdale don’t even give her an on-screen send-of.

Perhaps she gets a job offer somewhere else, and has to immediately leave. And if so, she may not have time to say goodbye to everyone. If this is what happens then we might just get a mention of it from someone else in the Woolpack.

This would be unfortunate and wouldn’t do her character right, so we hope this isn’t the case.

Inside Beth Cordinglyâ€™s life off-screen as real-life soap partner declares his â€˜prideâ€™ over her â€˜great workâ€™

Beth Cordingly, who currently plays Ruby Fox-Miligan in Emmerdale regularly keeps fans updated with her life outside of the soap.

At the minute, Ruby has been embroiled in a huge abuse storyline after her father returned to her life. The actress has been thrown into the emotional storyline, and fans have applauded her.

And it seems, away from the screens, her soap partner is also extremely proud of her. So what is Beth’s life away from the Dales like? Well, lets have a look.

Beth Cordingly’s life before Emmerdale

Before she graced our screens as Ruby, Beth was best known for her role as PC Kerry Young in The Bill. She played the part for two years, from 2002 to 2004.

After completing a degree in English and Drama at the University of Birmingham, alongside taking part in the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, she went on to make numerous TV appearances.

She has popped up in shows like Doctors, Casualty and Secret Diary of a Call Girl – where she starred alongside Billie Piper.

Is Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly in a relationship?

It’s reported that in 2011 Beth married theatre producer Adam Speers, but five years later the couple went their separate ways.

Despite this, they co-parent a daughter, who is now 11 years old.

Beth has found love again. And it’s with someone well known to the Emmerdale community.

Ian Kelsey, who previously played Dave Glover on the soap until his character’s death in 1997.

It’s believed that Beth and Ian actually met years ago, but it wasn’t until 2021 that they reconnected and fell in love.

The couple currently do long-distance, as he travels for his acting gigs. But Beth takes to social media to quite frequently share Facetime photos gushing about her beau.

What has Ian said about Beth’s current Emmerdale storyline?

Beth has been at the centre of a huge emotional storyline in Emmerdale for the last few months.

Ruby’s father arrived to the village, and it was revealed that he had sexually abused her and was the biological dad to her daughter. Then in a huge twist, Ruby murdered him.

Fans have praised Beth for her skills lately. But it seems her biggest fan may be Ian.

Speaking to Inside Soap last month, Ian admitted he couldn’t be prouder of Beth.

He said: “She is doing such great work. And it’s a deep, dark storyline. She has had to step up to the plate. And her workload has been huge but she is doing a brilliant job. I am so proud of her.”

Is Beth leaving Emmerdale?

As Ruby’s powerful storyline continues, fans are left with the fear that she may be leaving the show. Especially as she has committed murder.

But as of right now, there have been no reports that suggest Beth’s time on Emmerdale may be coming to an end.

And in our opinion, her recent storyline has proved that she is a true asset to the show. So, we hope she stays for a long time.

Inside Emmerdale star Mark Charnockâ€™s secret hobby and dream away from acting: ‘I’d like to be acknowledged’

Emmerdale star Mark Charnock, who has been playing Marlon Dingle since 1996 actually has a surprising hobby that he would love to take further.

This year marks 29 years since Marlon Dingle showed up on our screens. Over the years he has been involved in huge storylines. In recent times, Marlon suffered a stroke and has been dealing with the recovery. And he is currently very involved as his daughter, April, went missing for six weeks.

But acting isn’t the only thing that Emmerdale star Mark Charnock could see himself doing. As away from the soap, he likes to think of himself as an aspiring writer.

Emmerdale Mark Charnock’s passion for writing

Mark has expressed that he would love to be ‘acknowledged’ as an author one day, alongside acting. But in order to do that, he would have to release some novels. Which he has written.

A few years ago, Mark opened up to The Guardian in a sit down interview about his time on Emmerdale. The 56-year-old took the opportunity to reveal his desire for penmanship, but admitted he never truly believed anyone would want to read his words.

He said: “I want to be a writer. All my closest friends are writers. I would like to be acknowledged. I have got hundreds and thousands of words – novels and short stories.”

Despite having the words written, he is yet to release anything. And he admitted he thinks someone will have to find them when he dies. But in his mind they will just ‘burn them.’

Mark continued: “By the time I pop my clogs, there is going to be this vast JD Salinger-esque locker of unpublished stories. Somebody will read them and go ‘Oh, let’s just burn them’.”

What else does Emmerdale star Mark Charnock do in his spare time?

Mark enjoys sharing the sunrises in Yorkshire with his fans. And along with this he also showcases his growing crops and flowers on his Instagram.

However, away from that, Mark has admitted he would love to continue working on Emmerdale. But he never lets himself get carried away, despite being there for almost 30 years.

He explained: “I’m really strict with myself. I never think beyond the contract. The amount of people who come on this show and think they are secure, only to get written out in a threshing accident. If you start taking it all for granted, then you are finished.”

Emmerdale star Liam Fox reveals eight year cancer struggle following surgery

Former Emmerdale star Liam Fox has revealed how he had an operation in February to remove a patch of ‘carcinoma’ from his skin after being diagnosed with skin cancer.

The actor, 54, left the soap two years ago after 12 years of playing Dan Spencer. During this time, Liam had grown concerned that a patch of flaky skin on left temple might be something more serious.

First noticing signs of skin cancer in 2017, Liam wasn’t diagnosed until January 2024 – subsequently undergoing an operation to remove the patch of skin.

In an interview with The Sun, Liam said: “I went to the doctors and they said â€˜Oh no, itâ€™s just flakey skinâ€™ itâ€™s fine, itâ€™s nothing to worry about. A few weeks later I went back to them again because it was still there, I just wasnâ€™t happy with what theyâ€™d told me, it just didnâ€™t feel right.”

He continued to go to the doctor to seek help, who diagnosed him with a condition called ‘Solar Keratosis,’ and giving him cream for the problem. This cleared up the issue until a year later, when it returned.

After doctors took a sample, he was promised that he’d have answers within six months. However, this wasn’t to be, and a year passed before Liam sought help again.

“I told them that I really needed to sort it out as it was still bleeding. The woman on the desk said, â€˜Oh yeah, you should have been seen by now.â€™ I got a meeting at the hospital a couple of days later. The doctor that I saw admitted that I should have been seen much sooner,” said the actor, who left the soap in 2023.

He continued: “It was January 2024 by this point. They finally told me that it was a â€˜carcenomaâ€™ weâ€™ll have to get that out. They donâ€™t grow very quickly but weâ€™ll get it sorted.”

Liam Fox undergoes surgery for skin cancer

After the NHS told him that his operation wouldn’t be for another six months, Liam kept pushing. Doctors eventually gave him a surgery date in February.

“A carcinoma tends to just damage the surrounding area. It can invade and go into your bones and your skull and cause damage, but they seem quite happy that itâ€™s all gone okay,” the Dan Spencer star revealed.

“I feel alright, and everything is healing nicely. I only went in for the day and had some local anaesthetic and they cut it out. They seem quite happy that itâ€™s all gone okay. Iâ€™ve got to go back in six weeks for a routine check-up.”

The actor has kept fans updated with a number of posts to his Instagram account. Last month, he shared a series of images of the post-surgery scars, reminding sun-lovers to take care.

“Been waiting ages to have a basal cell carcinoma removedâ€¦ finally sorted at the fabulous plastic surgery dept at #StHelens #Hospital â€¦what an absolutely superb fun friendly team #SkinCancerAwareness #sun #lotion #NHS #NHSApp,” Liam wrote in a post in February.

“Keep out of the sun when we get it folks,” he added.

Is Jeff Hordley leaving Emmerdale as Cain Dingle after 25 years? Fans have been concerned lately that the iconic Dingle bad boy is heading for an exit.

Joining Emmerdale way back in 2000, Jeff is celebrating his 25th year on the soap. Despite taking a few years away from 2006 – 2009, he has been a constant in the village.

But as his current storyline has Cain tangled up in Anthony’s murder cover-up and his marriage heading downwards. So now fans are worried we’re going to lose him on our screens. But is this the case? Here is everything we know about Jeff Hordley leaving Emmerdale as Cain.

Is Jeff Hordley leaving Emmerdale as Cain?

As of this current moment (February 26) there is no official confirmation that Jeff is leaving the Dales. And there is also no reports that suggest otherwise. So it looks like fan concerns can be put to rest.

Jeff himself recently appeared on This Morning to talk about the huge limo crash that claimed the lives of three loved characters. And in the interview, he admitted it’s “been a wonderful ride”.

Speaking about his years on the soap, Jeff said: “I remember joining for two years. Then two years turned into six years. I took a little break then I came back.

“But it’s been a wonderful ride and I’m really proud to still be here to be honest. Especially with all of these characters who are going.”

Looking at his character’s story arc’s over the years, Jeff agreed that Cain “isn’t boring”, adding that “he’s not someone who would go to the cafe to order a cup of tea”.

Why are fans convinced Cain will leave?

A few months ago, while Moira was in brain surgery, Cain had a one night stand with Ruby. And while we all tried to block it from our memories, the truth has just come out.

Moira clearly isn’t happy about it all, and while actress Natalie J Robb believes Cain and Moira are the real deal, fans are worried they’re headed for divorce.

Then on top of that Caleb tried to frame Cain for Anthony’s murder – which didn’t work out for him. But as the brothers continue to be against each other, fans are worried Caleb may do something sinister to Cain.

If you also watch Classic Emmerdale episodes that air every day on ITV3 then Cain will have just left the village. And so perhaps fans are worried the timing will line up with the new episodes.

But fear not. There are currently no reasons for fans to think Jeff Hordley is leaving Emmerdale as Cain. And we are glad!

Of course it’s Soap Land and things can change very quickly, but as for now, erase the fears that we’re losing Cain.

Emmerdale slammed for casting new ‘bad boy’ character after devastating exits

Fans of Emmerdale have slammed the soap for introducing new ‘bad boy’ Kammy in the wake of three devastating exits last week. Soap bosses confirmed last night that newcomer Kammy will be joining the cast – as a would-be quad bike thief who clashes with Ross and befriends Sarah.

His introduction comes as Suzy, Leyla and Amy all left the soap last week. The women were killed off in a devastating limousine crash which leaves the village reeling in grief.

And many didn’t take the announcement of the newcomer well – with many bemoaning the introduction of yet another ‘bad boy.’

Emmerdale fans fume as soap introduces new ‘bad boy’

Reacting on Reddit as the news dropped, fans shared their dismay at the addition of a new ‘bad boy’ to the soap’s already stacked line-up.

“It’ll be another so called bad boy who will be forced to have beef with a randomly selected villager, either Ross or someone else for no real reason and will almost certainly end up bedding half the women in the village,” wrote one fan.

“I really don’t understand your logic. A number of characters have been let go, to be replaced by at least one bad boy. Seriously!” complained another on X.

“New bad boy to shake things up, how original. So axe long standing characters and replace with someone who viewers are meant to dislike?” said a third.

“Feels like thereâ€™s too many of these â€œbad boyâ€ characters in Emmerdale at the moment,” another agreed.

Scenes next month will see Kammy make his Emmerdale debut – stealing a quad bike from Moiraâ€™s farm. As accusatory fingers are pointed, Ross soon takes the blame.

Elsewhere, Sarah meets Kammy as he struggles to start the stolen bike. But how will she react when Ross approaches?

As the pair begin to build a relationship, Sarah soon finds herself getting in touch with her village roots.

Katie Hill, who plays Sarah Sugden said: â€œI canâ€™t wait for the audience to meet Kammy â€“ heâ€™s a really fun character and a great addition to the village. We might even see him and Sarah get up to a bit of mischief togetherâ€¦ It has been great having Shebz join the cast and heâ€™s been brilliant to work with!â€

‘Danger’ teased for Sarah as Shebz Miah reveals Emmerdale role

Speaking about his exciting new role in the soap, actor Shebz Miah, said: “Iâ€™m absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. Everyone has been so welcoming and I already feel like a part of the family.”

He continued: “I honestly couldnâ€™t have asked for a better job – the character is such an exciting one to play and Kammy will definitely ruffle a few feathers, but he does have the gift of the gab so although he causes a lot of mischief, I think it will be hard not to like him!”

Meanwhile, Katie Hill, who plays Sarah Sugden said: “I canâ€™t wait for the audience to meet Kammy – heâ€™s a really fun character and a great addition to the village. We might even see him and Sarah get up to a bit of mischief togetherâ€¦ It has been great having Shebz join the cast and heâ€™s been brilliant to work with!”

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw added: “We are delighted to be welcoming Shebz to Emmerdale as cheeky charmer Kammy. Charismatic, with a very playful spirit, but ultimately kind at heart, Yorkshire lad Kammy promises to bring both excitement and danger to the village.”
