A new Emmerdale fan theory has predicted that Joe Tate could be about to get an organ transplant from uncle Caleb. This comes amid speculation that Joe has been attempting to harvest half-brother Noah’s organs – leading to last week’s limousine crash.

What does Joe have planned for Noah?
While Noah has yet to comprehend what happened, a popular fan theory suggests that Joe needs one of Noah’s organs to survive. However, some think a twist might be in store as Joe learns that Noah isn’t a viable donor.

Joe to seek organ transplant from Caleb, Emmerdale fan theory predicts
Writing on a Reddit thread, one viewer laid forth their theory for Caleb‘s surgery and how it might relate to Joe.
“With everything pointing to Joe having had some medical procedure done on a drugged up Noah to find out if he is compatible as an organ donor and us also seeing a flat lining Caleb in the flashforward, could Caleb be the one that Joe gets whatever it is he is needs, from? He is Joe’s uncle afterall and could be a genetic match,” one viewer pointed out.
“Caleb’s flash forward, Joe Tate probably needs an organ to steal, if it is a heart he needs, I think he takes it from Caleb,” said another, over on X.
Elsewhere, others shared their theory that Noah might not be a viable donor for Joe.
“Just hope they tell Joe that Noah is not a viable donor, owing to his last experience with drugs. You remember, the one that kept him out of the military before they ruined his character,” another fan said.
Will desperate Joe be forced to look elsewhere for his life-saving surgery?

After the revelation that Nate is the body in the lake, Emmerdale fans are convinced they have worked out the ‘truth’ about the flash-forwards – and who John will target next.
As soon as Nate left the village viewers theorised there was more to his departure than we saw. And now, five months later, it’s confirmed he was murdered – and his body is still sinking in the lake.
It didn’t take long for theories to start. And everyone remembered how John Sugden was acting after his exit and believe he killed him. Alongside that, fans think they have worked out the true order of the New Year flash-forwards – and someone should be scared.
Was Mack running from John? (Credit: ITV)
Emmerdale John to target Mack?
At the beginning of 2025, Emmerdale aired five flash-forwards. Nothing was ever said about when these would air. But we know it will be throughout the year.
The last flash-forward we got was the hand in the ice. But that was the first one we saw in the timeline. And judging by the current storylines, a new theory suggests they are in reverse chronological order. Meaning Mack should be running scared.
Fans took to a Reddit thread to discuss the theory, and found more reasons why John is the one behind Nate’s death. And will be the one going after Mack.
One fan wrote: “I am starting to believe that the flash-forwards we saw on New Year’s were a reversed order of when we are going to see them.
“We saw the ice one this week. And that was the last shown. So if this theory is correct, we will see the body being pushed off the bridge next. Then Cain at the grave, Caleb flatlining and then Mack running through the forest.”
Another fan agreed, admitting it strengthens the theory that John is responsible.
They penned: “This just further emphasises that John is the killer to me. It will be him chasing Mack through the woods, mark my words.
“We know they have history. And Mack was close friends with Nate. If he begins to suspect John then John will go after him. I don’t see this ending well for Mack.”
John has been suspicious since he arrived (Credit: ITV)
Is John a serial killer?
When Nate left the village, Tracy asked John if he had seen him. Conveniently John informed her that he had already gone, while closing his van boot very quickly.
He apologised to Tracy but she said: “It’s not your fault.” However, it’s looking more and more likely that it is his fault.
Then when Aaron went to John about Anthony’s death, the new Sugden knew very well how to get rid of the body – practise makes perfect!
And if Matty tells Mack about Amy’s last words, maybe he begins to work out that Nate is dead. And it won’t take long before he becomes the next target.

Next week, Emmerdale airs their hugely teased ice stunt, which is expected to leave villagers in grave danger.
At the start of 2025 viewers were given a glimpse into the future of many different storylines. But we had no idea if all of the flashforwards were linked. Or if they were all completely separate.
But now fans have ‘worked out’ who dies in the stunt, and it seemingly links three flashforwards together.
Many villagers are involved in the ice stunt (Credit: ITV)
How does this happen? Well Liam and Kerry both host boys’ and girls’ nights out. And Caleb and Charity both take the drivers’ seats.
While Caleb’s anger towards Cain grows, he ends up crashing the boys’ limo. Whereas Charity swerves to avoid hitting something.
Spoilers for next week indicate one of the limos ends up on a frozen lake. And thanks to an earlier flashforward, we know someone ends up trapped underneath – banging on the ice for help.
Another flashforward saw Caleb flat-lining in hospital, while a different one showed Cain crying at a fresh grave. But how did we get there?
Well, a new fan theory has linked it all together, working out which villager is likely to die in the huge Emmerdale ice stunt. And it’s bad news for Liam.
Could Liam and Chas’ relationship end in tragedy? (Credit: ITV)
Does Liam die?
Taking to X, one user wrote: “So we all know the men and women both have a big night out involving two limos. So I’m saying Caleb crashes as he is arguing with Cain about sleeping with Ruby. Then Liam dies in the crash. Cain cries at his grave out of guilt. And it also explains Caleb being on the monitors in hospital. And cue Jacob, the new local doctor.”
The theory neatly ties together multiple storylines, and opens many different possibilities for future stories.

Emmerdale spoilers for next week have revealed the details of a huge disaster which will leave 16 characters in peril amid a limo crash and a terrible plunge into an ice covered lake.
This comes as the men and women of Emmerdale head off for a night on the town – in which Liam plans to propose to Chas. As the night gets underway, the group pile into two limousines.
However, disaster is set to strike as the cars crash and one limousine dives into an icy lake. With an eerie flash-forward revealing a hand pounding on the ice from below, it’s a fair bet that not everyone will survive…
A crashed limo leaves several lives in terrible danger (Credit: ITV)
Who’s most at risk as Emmerdale reveals details of ice peril?
In the two limousines are the men, led by Liam, and the women. Speaking to Metro, actor Jonny McPherson revealed the 16 names caught up in the disaster.
The girls limo, Jonny revealed, contains: “Chas, obviously, Kerry the prize winner, Leyla, Suzy, Amy, Vanessa, Charity and Mandy.”
Meanwhile, the boys’ car consists of: “Cain, Caleb, Bear and Paddy, Mackenzie, Matty and Sam and Liam. They are somewhat held up from leaving the village as the girls’ limo has got delayed and is blocking their way. Liam is pleased so many have turned up suited and booted – all very James Bondesque.”
But who’s in the most danger when disaster strikes?
Caleb’s behind the wheel when one of the limousines crashes (Credit: ITV)
1. Caleb
Driving one of the two cars, Caleb is one of those most at risk when the limousine crashes. Earlier this year, a mysterious flash-forward showed an image of Caleb fighting for his life on a hospital table, while another saw Cain crying at an unknown figure’s graveside.
This lends some credence to the theory that Caleb could find himself in serious harm’s way amid the ice stunt. Will Caleb survive the crash?
Leyla’s been unmoored for a while (Credit: ITV)
2. Leyla is fan favourite to die in Emmerdale ice stunt
Viewers learned last year that Roxy Shahidi – who plays Leyla Harding – will be leaving Emmerdale this year. With rumours of her being killed off running rife, it’s reasonable to wonder whether she might be killed in the limousine crash.
After all, poor Leyla has been at a loose end for a while now, with son Jacob and her friends in the village having little time for her recently. Is Leyla’s time up?
Charity’s driving the other car (Credit: ITV)
3. Charity
Cain Dingle is hardly an emotive man (anger aside) so it’s reasonable to think that when we see him crying at someone’s graveside, it’s probably for another Dingle. And with his two brothers, sister and his cousin/ex in both cars, there are plenty of Dingles at risk.
After struggling to find a driver, Charity and Caleb step in to drive their respective cars. And, if you look at the picture of the mystery limo, nose-down in an icy river, things don’t look good for said driver…
4. Liam
Hiring a limo (when he fails to win one) for his proposal to Chas, Liam is the one who sets this terrible train of events into motion. The villagers should be glad that there’s a doctor on hand for the aftermath… if he survives it, that is.
Liam has planned an ostentatious proposal for Chas (Credit: ITV)
5. Chas
Chas‘s glamorous trip into town comes as a welcome distraction from Aaron’s antics and helping to cover up Anthony’s murder. She survived breast cancer and being kidnapped by vengeful gangster Harry in 2023, but is her luck about to run out just as she finds happiness with her new man?
6. Sam
Ditto, the death of Sam might be enough to drive Cain to tears. Perhaps an unlikely one, given that we haven’t seen much of Sam lately, but if his being impaled during the great storm of 2022 proved anything, it’s that Sam has a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time – and surviving it.
Will tensions between Caleb and Cain overflow, causing the crash? (Credit: ITV)
7. Will Cain survive Emmerdale ice disaster?
We’ve speculated plenty on the identity of the person in the grave, but could that be the ultimate misdirect from Emmerdale? While Cain has too much unfinished business to be killed off so soon, he’s unlikely to escape without a few scars – emotional or physical.
Liam’s plans for a romantic proposal are scuppered when Kerry wins the limo prize draw, forcing him to rent a second one. And it’s the presence of a second limousine on the road which causes the fateful crash. Will Kerry’s prize be the death of her?
9. Amy
Another of the two women in the cars that Cain has fathered a child with, Amy was feeling broody last week. Husband Matty agreed that they could think about adopting – but will they live long enough?
10. Suzy
Leyla’s business partner, Suzy, bumps up the numbers in the ladies limousine. Will she also add to its bodycount?
Vanessa returned to the soap earlier this year (Credit: ITV)
11. Vanessa
Aside from having to put up with Tom King and a baby-napping Rhona, Vanessa has managed to steer clear of any major disasters since her return to the village last year.
12. Mandy narrowly escapes Emmerdale ice stunr
Mandy’s initially in the ladies’ limo as they set off for their journey, but is apparently safe and sound when it takes its icy plunge later that evening. Jonny revealed: “Mandy has to run off and sort an issue before they set off.” Is Mandy in the clear, or is this a red herring from the soap?
13. Bear
Bear joins son Paddy on a trip in Doctor Liam’s limo. He too will find himself in danger as the cars collide. Will Bear survive his wrestle with mortality?
Paddy’s been around long enough that he should know this was a bad idea (Credit: ITV)
14. Will Paddy die in Emmerdale ice stunt?
Mandy may have cleared off, but Paddy joins the men to party in the boys’ limousine. He too finds himself in harm’s way as the car loses control and collides with the other limo.
15. Mackenzie
The flash-forward last year seemed to reveal that whoever finds themselves trapped under the ice is wearing a wedding ring. Noted married man (in spite of his awful behaviour) Mack finds himself in peril, then. Mack’s many detractors may be hoping that the love rat meets his end next week.
16. Matty
Finally, Matty. Another married man with close ties to Cain Dingle, his safety is far from guaranteed.

The Emmerdale rumour mill has been thrown into overdrive after the soap aired a series of flash-forwards depicting one character trapped under a sheet of ice. Further details have revealed that this follows a terrible car crash in which a number of characters wind up in grave danger, with one resident trapped beneath the ice.
But whose hand can be seen under the ice? With a number of exits announced, some have speculated that this could play into the upcoming departure of Leyla, Brenda or Ella from the soap – but there’s also Anthony, who is living on borrowed time after news of his abusing Ruby begins to spread.
“Think that might be Leyla, maybe a car crashes into the lake or the quarry pool ? Won’t be for the first time…!” suggested one fan.
“That’s Leyla under the ice, its how she gets killed off!” another wrote, confidently.
Fans are hoping evil Anthony dies horribly (Credit: ITV)
2. Anthony
While there isn’t much evidence to suggest it, many viewers are hoping that it’s resident monster Anthony Fox who finds his way into a watery grave.
“I hope it’s Anthony buried under the ice,” said one fan.
“Anthony’s hand!!” a second speculated.
A suitably horrible end to a truly vile figure – but is this how things play out?
Caleb’s in trouble (Credit: ITV)
3. Caleb
Another flash-forward showed Caleb lying in intensive care, fighting for his life. This could be a result of his falling in the water and getting trapped under the ice.
“What if Caleb, Ruby and Steph are driving, accidentally run over Leyla and have to hide it for some reason?” asked one fan. “As they play the blame game with each other or try to get their story straight, they crash into the frozen lake. Ruby and Steph get out, but Caleb gets stuck, probably because he was trying to save them.”
Could Dawn’s vendetta against Kim put her life in peril? (Credit: ITV)
4. Fans hope that Dawn dies in the ice in Emmerdale
Some viewers have wondered whether Dawn’s ongoing vendetta with Kim Tate could see her dying while Kim looks on.
“I really, really, really hope that it’s dismal (Dawn) trapped under the ice. Kim sees her trapped but does nothing to help and dismal can see her through the ice, not lifting a finger,” said one fan.
Joe’s back… but for how long? (Credit: ITV)
5. Joe
He’s only been back in the dales a few months, but fans have speculated that Joe Tate might not have long left.
“I think it is Joe under the ice, and possibly Dawn put him there. She does think Joe caused Will’s death, and everyone hates Joe. He is already making more enemies than he had before. Joe could definitely be either under the ice or in the body bag,” wrote one fan.
Is Billy dead wood? (Credit: ITV)
Whose hand is under the ice in Emmerdale?
6. Billy
Another popular theory is Billy. And, given that the hand appears to belong to a married man, he’s a strong contender.
“I 100% think it’s Billy,” theorised one viewer.
“The hand looked like a man’s hand to me. My guess is Billy. They showed Dawn’s face before the flash scene and the hand has a wedding ring on it,” another speculated.
“My prediction of the person trapped under the ice, especially as the people shown just prior to the scene were Dawn and Joe. They both have an affair and Joe tries to bump Billy off but he manages to survive,” a third said.
Stars Lisa Riley and Paula Lane have been filming together (Credit: ITV)
7. Ella or Mandy
Lisa Riley, who plays Mandy Dingle, gave a hint that she and co-star Paula Lane were both involved in a night shoot, potentially to do with the icy stunt.
“Love this girl so much, Paula Lane,†Lisa wrote on social media as she shared a picture of them both. “Cheeky Christmas lunch together at before we have a night shoot at Emmerdale tonight. The Christmas spirit in here is sparkling.â€
This comes following news that Ella Forster will also be leaving the soap this year. Actress Paula Lane’s agency has said she will only be filming Emmerdale until February – meaning that Ella’s exit is imminent. Is she in terrible danger?

It’s a new year and that means our Emmerdale review this week is full to the brim of new drama. It’s been quite the week, hasn’t it? What with flashforwards, special eps, April’s ‘death’ and Ruby’s revelations.
Here’s what we thought of the non-stop action in our Emmerdale review.
Cain is mourning but who’s dead? (Credit: ITV)
The flashforwards
As Big Ben chimed in 2025, we were treated to five flashforwards teasing what was going to happen in Emmerdale this year. We saw Mack running through the woods looking scared, Caleb in hospital flatlining, and Cain standing next to a grave with a floral display spelling a word that was frustratingly unreadable no matter how many times we zoomed in on the screengrab or flipped the picture.
We also saw two more snapshots of the future – a body wrapped in plastic being thrown over the bridge, and terrifyingly someone trapped under the ice.
So what does it all mean? Are all five flashforwards parts of one story or are they different plots? Is Caleb going to die? Who’s under the ice? While some of the glimpses into the future were less exciting (Mack running for example) some of them have already got us gripped.
Why is Kim being so trusting when it comes to Joe Tate? (Credit: ITV)
Emmerdale review: Kim and Joe’s surprise truce
Back in the present day, poor Kim is still grieving the unexpected death of husband Will. We love Kim, obvs, and so it is with reluctance that we feel obliged to point out that she’s being a bit of a wet blanket. Joe Tate is skulking around pretending to care and Kim’s just going along with it. We get that he knows she froze when Will first collapsed, and she feels guilty, but come on – it’s hardly the crime of the century is it? It’s far from being the worst thing Kim’s ever done. Why is she trusting him?
As ever with Kim we’re hoping she knows exactly what’s going on and is playing Joe for a fool. We even thought Will’s death might be a ruse for a while! Could we be right this time?
Anthony is tormenting Ruby but no one has noticed (Credit: ITV)
Anthony and Ruby
We are increasingly convinced that Anthony is not just the worst villain in Emmerdale history but one of the most evil baddies in telly history! He may not have the body count of Meena Jutla or Cameron Murray, but OMG he is so manipulative and frightening.
This week it was Steph’s birthday and once again he used the occasion to taunt, twist and terrify poor Ruby, making her seem unstable and volatile while he came out on top.
Ruby’s really struggling and we liked her confiding in Chas and taking back a tiny bit of control by ordering a DNA test – though we’re scared what the results might say.
But we’re frustrated that no one else seems to see how badly she is reacting to Anthony. Caleb walked in on her crying and didn’t notice. No one stuck up for her when Anthony demanded she cook them all a complicated dinner. And Steph, quite frankly, is being really nasty to her mother. She’s been given a (very nice!) place to live, a job, loads of attention, adoration from her dad and grandfather, and she’s still whining. Come on, Fox-Miligans! Step up.
Joe Warren Plant did a great job of showing us the pressures of Jacob’s first day (Credit: ITV)
Emmerdale review: Jacob’s first day
As if the flashforwards weren’t enough, we were also given a special episode this week, centring on Jacob’s first shift in A&E. We weren’t sure how this would work when we first heard about it – after all, it’s Emmerdale, not Casualty! But actually we thought it was great.
Joe Warren Plant, who plays Jacob, did a smashing job of holding it all together and we really saw the pressures of being a medical student. The doctor in charge was a bit mean, though!
Marlon and Rhona thought April was dead (Credit: ITV)
April’s not dead!
One thing we didn’t love so much was the mix-up with everyone thinking April was dead. Though the blame for the error was firmly put on Jacob, we’re not convinced everyone in the hospital would have gone along with it so easily without, you know, checking.
It all felt a bit like a cheap plot device to torment Marlon and Rhona and we reckon it could have been just as dramatic and heart-wrenching done in a different way.
Marlon’s being really horrible (Credit: ITV)
Marlon’s a git
And while we’re on the subject, Marlon is getting on our wick. We know he’s worried about April, we get it. But he is being, in his own words, “a git”. He is blaming everyone else. He is shouting, pointing fingers, making it all about himself…
It’s quite hard to feel sympathy for him right now.
We do, however, feel a lot of sympathy for poor Mary who is keeping everything going behind the scenes, looking after Invisible Ivy and making tea and generally being an all-round trooper.
We’re as baffled as you are, Laurel (Credit: ITV)
Emmerdale review: Marlon and Laurel revelations
And what’s with these revelations about Marlon and Laurel? Firstly, we’re confused about the timeline. Marlon seemed to tell Rhona that it all happened just before Christmas. But the police officer said April had seen a few messages on Marlon’s phone that made her suspicious.
And the one person we’ve not heard from is Laurel herself. What does she have to say about all this? Did it happen as Marlon has said, or is there more to it?

A new fan theory suggests Sarah Sugden could be at risk in Emmerdale. As the clock hit midnight on New Year’s Eve in the village, we were treated to a number of flashforwards that will take place this year. And more than one of them hinted at an Emmerdale death.
In one of the scenes, Cain was standing over a fresh grave crying, visibly heartbroken at losing whoever was buried there.
But while we literally have no idea about the who, what, when and how, all we can do is hope that our favourites are safe. As it looks like anybody could be taken away from us.
Sarah has been growing close to Jacob. (Credit: ITV)
Could Sarah die in Emmerdale?
Right now all we have to go on is our own theories. And one of them suggests Sarah Sugden is the Emmerdale death.
Sarah has a heart condition which has taken centre stage in the show on numerous occasions. But when she got a transplant, she faded from the storylines.
Now, she’s back in the show quite frequently, and this alone was enough to get viewers suspicious of the show’s intentions.
Quite spontaneously Sarah also began having feelings for Jacob, and while it’s not been smooth sailing, the pair do evidently like each other.
Then in last night’s episode (January 2), during Jacob’s first day on A&E placement, Charity rushed Sarah into the hospital as she collapsed due to excessive drinking. Which wasn’t the smartest decision considering her health issues.
One fan shared their theory that Sarah could die on X (formerly Twitter).
They wrote: “I still think Sarah could be the one in the grave that Cain is crying beside in the flashforward. It’s so random that she has not been on the scene for ages. Then all of a sudden she is there and drinking to block out her pain.”
If Sarah keeps drinking to try and get rid of her feelings, then she could end up causing damage to herself and risks her heart condition getting worse again.
If Sarah was the Emmerdale death then this would have huge ramifications for quite a lot of people in the village. And it would make complete sense as to why Cain looked so distraught in the flashforward.

Emmerdale death theories
While some may think Emmerdale wouldn’t kill a younger character, it was only one year ago they did exactly that to Heath Hope. And since then, the younger cast members have been stealing the spotlight.
If making an impact is what Emmerdale is going for, then killing off a character from the show’s most popular family is certainly a way to do just that.
However, right now it’s just speculation. Other names that fans are considering include Moira because of her current brain tumour story. And some are holding onto the theory that Nate was murdered and his body is hidden somewhere – so could it be him?
We just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Emmerdale tonight saw five flashforwards mark the start of 2025 – and it doesn’t look good for all of the Dales residents. Meanwhile, Anthony found out a secret and Marlon continued to fear for April’s safety.
Here’s what happened in Emmerdale tonight, Thursday December 31.
Anthony certainly made his presence felt in Emmerdale tonight
Anthony pushed Ruby until she broke down (Credit: ITV)
Ruby confessed the truth
Anthony and Cain had a ‘chat’ about yesterday’s altercation. Anthony then went to see Ruby and made even more snide comments about her and Cain. He questioned how long they had been sleeping together, but Ruby stormed off, leaving Anthony more sure than ever he was right.
Anthony persisted and persisted and so Ruby poured herself another drink. He pushed and pushed that Ruby was all over Cain and was still sleeping with him. Ruby cracked and confessed that she had slept with Cain once and it was a mistake. Anthony was gleeful at his discovery and Ruby broke down after he left, knowing she had really messed up.
Smashing a glass into the sink, Ruby was sobbing as she cleared up. She called Cain, who came round and she confessed Anthony knew everything. He was furious with Ruby’s stupidity.
Anthony now has even more of a hold over Ruby (Credit: ITV)
Anthony made two announcements
Ruby’s dad then decided to make a speech in the pub, leaving Cain and Ruby shaking with fear. It looked like he was about to reveal their affair, but actually he told everyone he was donating £5000 to the April search fund. Leaving the whole pub cheering and clapping him. He really has made himself at home.
Cain and Anthony then had another altercation outside the toilets, but Anthony once again made it clear he was not to be messed with and he held all the cards. He then announced he was moving into Mill Cottage with the family and Ruby knew she could not say anything. Despite her obvious discomfort, she reasoned he’d be dead soon so it didn’t matter. But she clearly isn’t going to cope with this at all.
Marlon felt sheepish after forgetting Heath’s anniversary (Credit: ITV)
Marlon blamed everyone in Emmerdale tonight
Furious Marlon quizzed Manpreet over prescribing April the contraceptive pill. She refused to tell him anything due to legal patient confidentiality. Marlon was blaming everyone around him and then turned his attention to Cathy, asking who April was sleeping with. But she spat back that the reason April could have been on the pill might not have been due to sex. She also reminded Marlon it was the anniversary of Heath’s death, making him feel terrible.
Rhona meanwhile, questioned Arthur, who knew nothing either.
Marlon went home to see Leo and discovered his son had found April’s missing poster. They had not told Leo what had happened, but Marlon was forced to confess. In a tearful scene, Marlon tried to explain to Leo what was going on. He promised to bring April home, but can he make good on that?
Kim and Dawn weren’t impressed with Joe’s enemy making! (Credit: ITV)
Joe made enemies
At Home Farm, Joe was playing the doting step-grandson, looking after Kim. Dawn was still suspicious of him, but Joe told her he could trust him – ha!
At the graveyard they were picking Will’s plot when Caleb came across them. He and Joe met and worked out they were uncle and nephew. But there was already no love lost between them. And as Joe made derogatory remarks about the Dingles, half-brother Noah overheard and stormed off.
They relocated to the pub, but Kim did not join them. Dawn was grateful for everyone’s condolences, but Joe continued to make enemies of everybody, rowing with every Dingle he came across. Not doing the best job of proving to Dawn he’s a good guy, eh?!

Five flashforwards revealed the future in Emmerdale tonight
As they counted from 10, we saw several flashforwards to what the future holds for the residents of Emmerdale.
First up, Mack was running through the woods looking worried and clearly needing to get somewhere fast. Not a very interesting one to be honest, but suggests Mack will continue to be central to all storylines next year. Sigh.
Then we focused on Caleb lying on an operating table flatlining. Next up was Cain, dressed for a funeral and sobbing at someone’s graveside – Caleb’s? Or someone else’s?.
Fourthly, a body wrapped in a tarpaulin and chains was pushed by a mystery gloved hand into the water. And finally, perhaps most chillingly, an icy river with a hand bashing against the surface, trapped and desperate to get out.
What does all this mean? Who is dead, who will survive? It’s set to be a very dramatic New Year in Emmerdale and we can’t wait!

Emmerdale has just aired five huge flashforwards for what’s coming up in 2025 and we have some questions. Mainly, who, what, why and when! But we’ll break it down!
We know three of the flashforward involve Cain, Caleb and Mack (yawn!), however, we do not know the identities of who is in the other two. But we can see there’s plenty of drama ahead!

Emmerdale airs five flashforwards
So as the countdown to midnight began in the Woolpack on New Year’s Eve, we first focused on Mackenzie. Counting down with Charity and Noah, it then flashed on his future, running furiously through the woods, clearly trying to get somewhere fast.
The second glimpse of what’s to come was Caleb, flatlining on an operating table. And then we cut to Cain crying at someone’s graveside.
The final two flashforwards were equally cryptic if not more so – one featured a body bag being pushed into the river and another was a hand trapped under an icy lake bashing the surface.
So you can see why we have questions! This is everything we need to know.

1. What’s happened to Caleb and does he die?
Seen hooked up to hospital machinery, something is clearly very wrong with Caleb. But what? Is it an illness? Or has he been hurt in an accident, or perhaps attacked?
Whatever has happened, it does not look good as he soon flatlines. Can he be brought back to life?
“I can’t cope if anything happens to Caleb!” screamed one fan on social media. Neither can we!

2. Who is Cain mourning?
Cain is stood alone at a graveside. He is wearing a funeral suit and the grave is freshly dug with flowers on it. As Cain looks troubled and then breaks down, it’s not obvious whose grave it is. But Cain wouldn’t cry over just anyone, would he?
Is it Caleb’s grave – is Cain simply mourning his brother? Or has Cain somehow caused Caleb’s death and the guilt is overwhelming?
Or could it be *whispers it* Moira? Please not Moira! After her recent brain surgery, she still has to undergo radiotherapy. Could something go terribly wrong?
Eagle-eyed fans on social media think the flowers have spelled out ‘Mum’, but others insist that’s not right and they definitely don’t – and we just can’t work it out.
Here’s a curveball though: what if it’s related to the long-held theory that Nate Robinson, Cain’s son who’s supposedly in Shetland, is actually dead?

3. Who is in the body bag in the Emmerdale flashforwards?
This could be anybody. Literally anybody. We don’t know who’s pushing it into the water, so can’t even say which family in Emmerdale it involves!
Or what about Ella Forster? She is leaving the soap and has killed before. Will she do so again before she goes?
We have nothing to go on whatsoever here, so these are all just guesses – we need to know!

4. Who is in the icy lake?
The hand bashing against the ice was probably the most chilling part of the Emmerdale flashforwards. Someone is trapped and it looks cold and dark and isolated, so do they have any hope of getting out? Not likely!
Reports have suggested this is how Leyla Harding will meet her maker. The Sun has suggested the terrifying scenes, filmed just before Christmas, will see Leyla and two other women trapped in a car as it sinks into a frozen lake.
Sources have told the publication that Emmerdale pulled out all the stops. This included covering a field with candle wax in order to make it look like a frozen lake.
An insider said: “It’s a nightmare scenario and everything was done to make sure this was a scene with real impact. Hours were spent creating a layer of ice. Then the actors spent hours out on the frozen field in the pitch black trying to do the storyline justice.”
This one was a little dull to be honest! Mackenzie running through the woods looking a bit stressed. There was no one else with him – so is he running to find someone or running away from someone – or something?
We’re struggling to care too much about this – Mack’s done himself no favours lately, so unless he’s rushing to save one of our faves, we’ll just wait to see on this one.
6. Are all the flashforwards in Emmerdale connected?
There were five of them, seemingly focusing on different characters, but are they all connected?
For example: Is Mack racing to find Caleb, who is then rushed to hospital, dies and Cain cries at his grave? Then Cain gets revenge on his killer by plunging them in a body bag in a lake, but the person gets free just as the lake freezes over and can’t get out? See what we mean? Is there a connection here?
Or are these five completely different storylines that will have us equally gripped in 2025?

Emmerdale has revealed a flashforward that shows one character will find themselves in grave danger in the New Year. The soap teased five flashforwards to give fans a look at what they can expect in 2025.
While one teaser shows Cain standing by a grave and another sees Mackenzie running through a wooded area, there’s one flashforward which has really got fans talking.
The haunting clip shows someone trapped under a frozen lake, with just their hand visible. Fans have eagerly started to guess the identity of the person, with many theories being shared.
Here’s three possible ideas about who could be trapped in the lake in Emmerdale’s flashforwards…

3 theories on who could die after Emmerdale flashforward
1. Could Dawn be involved?
Some Emmerdale fans have suggested Dawn could find herself in icy waters next year. Taking to social media, soap fans wondered if she is the person in the lake.
“We hope it’s not Dawn,” one person wrote, while a second added: “That best not be Dawn in that lake.”
However, someone else suggested that Dawn could be involved in the storyline but is not the character actually in the lake. One fan commented: “That looks like a male hand… Dawn looks very suspicious…”

2. Will Leyla meet an icy end?
Following the reports that Leyla will exit Emmerdale in January, many fans have predicted she will find herself trapped in the lake as part of her departure storyline.
“Well the hand under the ice will likely be Leyla’s since it’s confirmed that she’s getting killed off in a frozen lake stunt in January but the other ones look interesting,” one person pointed out on social media.
Another fan said: “Am sure that’s Leyla in the water,” while a third commented: “Leyla the one in the ice? #Emmerdale.” A fourth said: “I think Leyla is in that water then she dies.”

3. Anthony to die?
Meanwhile, a third theory shared by fans involves newcomer Anthony Fox, the father of Ruby Fox-Milligan. Anthony hasn’t made the best first impression in the village, and it’s safe to say Ruby isn’t his biggest fan.
Some fans have shared their hopes of Anthony meeting a grizzly end sooner rather than later. Taking to social media, one person said: “That banging on the ice wasn’t deeply disturbing at all… I’m hoping though it’s Ruby’s dad.. must be a good actor he makes my skin crawl through the TV screen.”
A second agreed, responding: “Yes!!! Hope it is him!!!!”
