Emmerdale fans demand justice for Ruby after what happened to her is revealed

In Emmerdale Ruby has been trying to keep her father away from her from the moment he arrived in the village. But thanks to Steph, this hasn’t been easy.

While many viewers predicted the plot-twist between the father and daughter, it was only confirmed that Ruby was sexually assaulted by Anthony as a child in last night’s heartbreakingly powerful episode.

In another creatively filmed episode of the soap, it showed us flashbacks to Ruby’s 16th birthday, intertwined with present day storylines.

Emmerdale Ruby was sexually assaulted as a child – by her dad

At the beginning of the episode it looked like Rob, a friend of Ruby’s, who her mother was trying to push her with, was going to be the one to do something sinister. But ultimately, Rob ended up being gay, and the culprit was indeed Ruby’s father.

Anthony may just be one of – if not the – most evil characters that have ever featured on the show. Not only has he turned back up in Ruby’s life after all of these years, he is also already trying to insert himself too deeply into her relationships.

He caught on to the tense moment between Ruby and Cain, working out they had slept together, and was quick to call her out for her behaviour.

This isn’t the first time Emmerdale has tackled this sort of storyline. In 2016, there was a similar story with Aaron Dingle and his father, Gordon. But Ruby’s story has potential to be one of the darkest, if they go down certain routes.

    Fans demand justice for Ruby

But two thing remain agreed upon by the viewers; Beth Cordingly is performing the storyline amazingly, and that Ruby needs justice.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) after the extremely powerful episode aired, fans expressed their thoughts.

One wrote: “Poor Ruby. I hope she gets the justice she deserves after what her dad did to her.”

Another added: “Ruby has become one of my favourite soap characters recently. I hope this story ends with her getting the justice she needs.”

“This storyline is harrowing and is going to be tough to watch. I hope she is believed straight away and gets the support and justice she deserves,” a third penned.

However one feared that Ruby’s storyline won’t end up with Anthony in prison. They wrote: “Is Anthony going to die before Ruby can get justice?”

It’s a soap, so we can only assume the truth will inevitably come out. But the question remains; just how long? And will Ruby get her justice? Some fans even predict she may kill him..

Ruby will kill her dad, new fan theory predicts

Fans of Emmerdale have predicted a murderous twist to the story of Ruby Fox-Miligan and her dad. This comes as the soap prepares to reveal exactly what Anthony did to Ruby on her sixteenth birthday, resulting in all those years of trauma and misery.

Ruby is clearly struggling with her estranged father being back on the scene, especially given how quickly he seems to have wriggled his way back into her life.

Anthony was in a particularly smug mood last night as he offered a weak apology for meddling in Caleb and Ruby’s affairs. And, as he showed up at the house, Steph even managed to score him an invite to Cain’s birthday party. Forced to play nice, Ruby swallowed her obvious pain in the face of Anthony’s smugness.

And, as Ruby’s situation continues to worsen, one fan has wondered whether Ruby might kill her father.

Emmerdale fan predicts that Ruby will kill her dad

Writing on X as last night’s scenes aired, one fan wondered whether Ruby might snap and kill Anthony.

“Ruby killing Antony?” this viewer suggested.

But if not Ruby, others were still hopeful that Anthony might meet his end before too long.

“I hope Anthony dies a slow and painful death and hopefully at Caleb’s hands,” said another, reacting to the confirmation that Anthony had indeed abused his daughter as a teenager.

“Anthony, be warned, your past will catch up with you,” another said.

The truth is revealed in flashback to Ruby’s 16th

In scenes airing tonight, the truth about Anthony’s evil will be revealed during a series of flashbacks to Ruby’s sixteenth birthday party.

In the difficult episode, the soap reveals that Ruby was the victim of sexual abuse by her father as a teenager.

Although the scenes are not graphic, Emmerdale issued a warning to viewers on social media.

The message read: “In tomorrow’s episode (Thursday 12th), Emmerdale will contain references to sexual violence that viewers could find distressing.” It was accompanied by a website link where viewers could seek advice.”

Fans have praised the soap for its sensitivity in providing a trigger warning for this terrible subject matter.

  • Recognise Ruby’s mum in Emmerdale? Here’s where you know Sharon Maughan from – including her famous husband and soap past

Recognise Ruby’s mum in Emmerdale? Here’s where you know Sharon Maughan from – including her famous husband and soap past

Emmerdale viewers will see Ruby’s mum Helen, played by Sharon Maughan, in tonight’s episode (Thursday December 12). She appears in flashback scenes to Ruby’s 16th birthday.

Helen was last seen on screen back in September where she appeared in two episodes. Ruby had not seen her mother in 30 years. However, when Helen was dying she wanted to reconnect with her estranged daughter before it was too late.

Here’s everything we know about Ruby and Helen’s relationship in Emmerdale as well as where you’ve seen Sharon Maughan before.

Sharon Maughan as Helen in Emmerdale.

    What is Helen’s story?

Ruby’s estrangement from her parents was thought to be due to their disapproval over her relationship with Caleb.

Speaking about the past, William Ash, who plays Caleb explained: “They hated him because he’d come out of a care home, he didn’t have any family and thought he was beneath their daughter. So, Helen was really snobby and judgemental. Helen and Ruby’s dad gave Ruby an ultimatum. They basically said ‘look if you want to be with this boy then we don’t want anything to do with you’. They basically just cut Ruby dead.”

It has since turned out they kicked Ruby out when she fell pregnant at 16. And now her dad Anthony is in town, fans are speculating he abused Ruby and is actually Steph’s real dad.

Back in September, Caleb visited Helen in hospital after she repeatedly called Ruby. Helen was terminally ill, but still able to put up a fight. She eventually agreed to give Caleb £100k if he got Ruby to come to see her. However, unfortunately Ruby never got the chance as her mother died before she reached the hospital.

Ruby had no idea Helen had been in contact, nor that Caleb went to see her. But all of that came out at the will reading, when Ruby realised exactly what her husband had done. It looked like their marriage was over for a while, but Caleb begged and Ruby forgave again. But she will always wonder exactly what her mother had to say to her before she died.

It also turned out Caleb and Ruby’s estranged daughter, Steph, had been in touch with her grandma. Helen left everything to her in her will.

    As Tricia in Holby City

What else has Sharon Maughan been in?

The 74-year-old actress definitely has longevity on her side and has been acting since the early 1970s.

Depending on your era, there are various things you could know Sharon from. One of her most famous gigs was as part of the Gold Blend couple alongside Anthony Head in the 1980s.

She has had a steady flow of work and appeared in episodes of many a TV show, including The Enigma Files, Dombey & Son, Inspector Morse, Murder She Wrote, Heartbeat and The Bill.

Her biggest job saw her star in over 100 episodes of hospital soap Holby City, where she played staff nurse Tricia Williams in the early 2000s, who was the mum of popular character Chrissie.

Tricia survived breast cancer, only to be involved in a car crash. Her family had opposing views on what to do, but ultimately they decided to switch off her life support machine.

    Famous family

Her name doesn’t give it away, but Sharon Maughan has a famous husband – she is married to legendary actor Trevor Eve.

Most recently, you’d have seen Trevor in crime drama Unforgotten and spy drama Strike Back, but his most famous role came in Waking the Dead, where he played Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd throughout it’s nine-series run.

Sharon and Trevor married in 1980 and have three children together, one of whom, Alice, has also gone into acting.

In 2010, Trevor, Sharon and Alice all appeared in the film She’s Out of My League playing father, mother and daughter.

    That’s one talented family!

  • 6 reasons Ruby is the best character in Emmerdale right now

6 reasons Ruby is the best character in Emmerdale right now

She’s only been on Emmerdale for less than a year, but Ruby Fox-Miligan has already become one of the soap’s most iconic characters. Following husband Caleb into the village in the wake of his revenge plot against Kim Tate (whatever happened there, eh), Ruby quickly established herself as a figure to be reckoned with.

Recent weeks have seen her reckon with the arrival of her estranged daughter and father. While she was keen to make up with daughter Steph, seeing Anthony again has brought old traumas bubbling to the fore.

As a special episode tonight reveals exactly what evil Anthony committed all those years ago, we argue our case for Ruby being Emmerdale’s best character.

Ruby stares Kim Tate down in Emmerdale spoilers
Beth Cordingly stars as Ruby (Credit: ITV)

    1. Beth Cordingly’s performance as Ruby in Emmerdale

Former The Bill and Heartbeat actor Beth Cordingly, 48, has been a powerhouse since joining the soap. Between the explosive outbursts and her quiet heartbreak at years of betrayal and rejection, the star has taken it all in her stride. Love or hate Ruby (and there’s plenty in both camp), there’s no arguing that Beth Cordingly isn’t giving it her all.

“Beth Cordingly (Ruby) is just an incredible actress & the best thing to happen to Emmerdale. She’s awesome!” wrote one viewer on X this week.

    2. Her backstory

As they did with Caleb, the writers were slow to reveal Ruby’s history prior to arriving in the village. After reuniting with Caleb and after the exit of son Nicky, Ruby gradually began to open up about her family.

First there was mum Helen, who died before Ruby could see her one last time. Then, we learned about the existence of daughter Steph. But where was Steph? This became clear months later, as Steph arrived in town… with granddad Anthony in tow.

Ruby’s backstory keeps revealing layers to the character; each fresh revelation explaining her firebrand behaviour a little bit more.

“I have been desperate for AGES to find out more about Ruby and her backstory (and Caleb keeps RUINING it). I am becoming increasingly emotionally attached to this woman by the day,” wrote one fan.

“Enjoyable character. Rare for modern Emmerdale – I just want to know more of their past, there clearly is a lot there,” another agreed.

    3. Drama always follows Ruby on Emmerdale

Where there is Ruby, drama will be sure to follow. This was quickly established as she introduced herself to the in-laws by crashing Belle and Tom’s wedding party, exposing Caleb’s affair with Tracy and causing quite the circus.

She followed this up with a scuffle in the Woolpack, where she gave Cain a knee to the crown jewels and, later, elbowed Chas in the breast… only weeks after she’d undergone surgery for breast cancer.

Ruby may have made nice with the Dingles since, but chaos is never far away where Ruby is concerned.

    4. Her sharp tongue

Not only is Ruby a physically formidable figure (just ask Cain), she also possesses the sharpest tongue in the Dales. This was in full show earlier this week as dad Anthony confronted her over Caleb’s affair with Tracy.

When he pressed her over how she could stand for such a philanderer, she countered by telling him that cheating was a two way street. “You’re assuming it’s another man, then,” Ruby countered, when Anthony wondered who the other man is.

A smart comeback is never far away, even in the face of a man she’s obviously traumatised by.

Ruby and Caleb talk on the sofa at home
A match made in heaven? (Credit: ITV)

    5. Her relationship with Caleb

No, hear us out. They may be one of the soap’s most toxic couples, but there’s no denying that their relationship is also one of its most interesting. Between his cheating (and hers), and her revenge plans (and his), plus their general incapability of being honest… they kind of deserve each other.

“We’ve only watched Ruby/Caleb onscreen for just under a year, yet their relationship is more complex than many couples we’ve followed for a decade,” wrote one fan.

“She’s a fantastic actor but a repugnant character, her and Caleb are very well suited,” said another.

Moira Dingle gives Ruby Fox-Miligan a Glasgow Kiss in Emmerdale.

    6. Her relationships with the other characters

Ruby made no shortage of enemies in the village upon her arrival, quickly upsetting each and every one of the Dingles. Months later, she was the recipient of one of Moira’s signature gifts from Glasgow, after Moira became convinced she’d been having an affair with Cain (yeah, about that…)

It’s to her credit, then, that she’s managed to win over all the haters; befriending Chas, bedding Cain and even making up with Moira. How that will all come crumbling down once the affair is exposed remains to be seen, but her interactions with the rest of the cast are nothing short of fabulous.

  • ‘Kim Tate needs her own family’ beg Emmerdale fans as they are desperate for someone to ‘truly have her back’

‘Kim Tate needs her own family’ beg Emmerdale fans as they are desperate for someone to ‘truly have her back’

Emmerdale fans have issued a plea to bosses to bring in the family of Kim Tate.

The soap icon, played by Claire King, made her first appearance on the soap in 1989 – only to leave 10 years later. Kim then made her triumphant return to Emmerdale in 2018 and has reclaimed her rightful place as a Dales legend.

But fans have recently been left wondering about her blood family, and have demanded bosses to bring them in as “everyone treats her like dirt”.

Fans have demanded Kim needs someone to ‘have her back’ (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale Kim Tate and her family

Very little is known about Kim, born Kim Barker, and her early background and upbringing. Her father was a telephone engineer and her mother was a hairdresser. Kim also had a younger sister.

In 1984, aged 25 Kim married into the iconic Tate clan, tying the knot to the abusive Frank. Kim went on to have a son, Jamie with him.

Kim survived Frank’s abuse and his attempt to kill her, and had him framed for her supposed murder. He ended up dying of a heart attack – brought on by Kim’s iconic return to the village after being presumed dead…

Emmerdale Kim Tate and her husbands

Meanwhile, Kim’s son Jamie rocked up the Dales in 2019, hell bent on bringing Kim down. He was last seen in 2021, and is living with Kim’s granddaughter Millie.

Although not blood-related, Kim is also close to Gabby Thomas, who used to date Jamie.

And in 2022, Kim married her fourth husband, Will Taylor, taking on the role of stepmum and step-grandmother to his daughter Dawn, and her kids. But as we know, things are very hit-and-miss with Kim and Will at the moment…

Emmerdale fans beg bosses to bring in Kim’s family

However, fans can’t help but think it’s about time the soap brought in some of Kim Tate’s family… (and we totally agree!)

On a Reddit thread, one person penned: “Kim literally has no one who will truly look out for her, I thought Gabby could play that role but I think it’s time they introduced Kim’s actual family and not another Tate out for revenge or family members out to get her.

“It would also mean she stopped pandering to ungrateful Dawn. I’m not clued up on Kim’s family tree but a loyal long lost sister who had kids would be nice, or just anybody who would have her back.”

‘Everyone just treats her like dirt’

Other Emmerdale fans agreed too. A second person pointed out how Kim’s sister was mentioned “a handful of times” on the soap in the ’90s.

The fan explained: “I think they were close even if she wasn’t on screen. I truly believe she could be the character who had her back. I do agree she needs someone because everyone just treats her like dirt and there’s no need to really.”

A third chimed in and mused: “I agree!! Bringing in her own family would be great to see!! Kim’s been treated like garbage by Will and his ungrateful daughter. I’d like to see a sister with her own teenage or young adult children move into Home Farm so misery guts Dawn can’t move back in! Also Will needs to go too!”

  • Emmerdale praised for trigger warning ahead of tonight’s episode by grateful fans

Emmerdale praised for trigger warning ahead of tonight’s episode by grateful fans

Emmerdale will air difficult scenes involving Ruby Fox-Miligan in Thursday’s hour-long episode and fans have praised the soap for the trigger warning ahead of its broadcast.

Ruby has been a main fixture in the Dales for almost a year, but since the arrival of her estranged daughter and father last month, it’s been clear that she has been suppressing something.

In tonight’s episode (Thursday, December 12), special flashback scenes will reveal all.

A photo triggers Ruby’s memory (Credit: ITV)

    What is Ruby hiding?

Ruby arrived in Emmerdale at the start of the year and has spent most of her time causing chaos. First she outed her husband’s affair with Tracy and then she run Ethan over in her car. She also teamed up with Rose in a plot to take down Kim Tate.

More recently, viewers have seen a softer side to Ruby. Last month, Ruby’s estranged daughter Steph arrived. She was soon followed by Ruby’s dad Anthony, who hasn’t won over viewers with his behaviour so far.

While Ruby and Steph have managed to make amends, Ruby is finding it more difficult to bond with her father. Steph has been pushing for them all to play happy families, but Ruby has been struggling with the idea – instead preferring to crack open another bottle of wine.

Ruby’s tragic past will be revealed in Thursday’s episode, with Emmerdale confirming she was the victim of sexual abuse as a child. Although the scenes are not graphic, Emmerdale issued a warning to viewers on social media.

The message read: “In tomorrow’s episode (Thursday 12th), Emmerdale will contain references to sexual violence that viewers could find distressing.” It was accompanied by a website link where viewers could seek advice.

    Fans praise Emmerdale warning

Fans have been speculating about what Ruby has been hiding and have now praised the soap for the advance warning, with one fan on X tagging another soap and writing: “take note.”

A second fan simply wrote: “Thank you for the warning,” with a heart emoji. On Instagram, another viewer said: “Thank you for this Emmerdale. Not enough shows give warnings for this.”

A fourth viewer expressed their gratitude and wrote: “Thank you for the trigger warning, it is much appreciated.”

A fifth fan replied to the message with: “I absolutely love Emmerdale for this.”

  • What happened on Emmerdale tonight: Cain tried to confess, April learned the truth, and Anthony gloated

What happened on Emmerdale tonight: Cain tried to confess, April learned the truth, and Anthony gloated

Emmerdale tonight found Cain Dingle on the verge of confessing to wife Moira about his fling with Ruby. As he drowned his sorrows, the drunken Dingle went on a village bender before being dragged home to his furious wife.

It was then that she revealed what the doctor had actually told her yesterday – and Cain once again swallowed his own lies.

Elsewhere, Ross made a bad situation worse, Jimmy and Nicola tried to cheer Angel up, and Ruby tried to build bridges with Steph… while smug Anthony continued to gloat.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Wednesday December 11.

Cain hit the bottle in Emmerdale tonight

Waking up in a prison cell, Cain was greeted by a sympathetic PC Swirling. With Jai agreeing not to press charges for yesterday’s rampage, officer Swirling offered Cain a few words of wisdom along with his release.

At home, an irritable Moira told Matty how she wanted nothing to do with Cain. A text from Chas reminded her about Cain’s upcoming surprise birthday party, but she and Matty were more focused on her treatment.

Phoning the station, Moira was infuriated to learn that Cain had already been released – and gone AWOL again. She was less than sympathetic to Swirling’s worries that Cain is ‘struggling,’ too.

But, after unveiling plans for a fifty-candle cake for Cain, Isaac had Moira doubting herself… the party’s back on!

Meanwhile, in the pub, Cain hit the bottle with a large whiskey. Nagging Chas and Mack both told him to go home and make up to his wife.

    Moira looks angry on Emmerdale

    Moira told Cain the truth

Instead of going home, Cain headed to the allotment. There, he set about pounding beers by himself. It was there that he was found by Liam, who was worried to hear that his friend hadn’t been home yet.

Hauling Cain home (and apparently leaving three unopened beers at the wayside!), Liam dropped the drunken Dingle off, where he was full of (slurred) apologies. Moira ruined the surprise element of his upcoming party, warning him that he needed to get his act together for the kids’ sake.

“There’s something I need to tell you,” he responded, his guilt weighing heavy.

And, on the verge of confessing, he was shocked to learn that Moira still needs radiotherapy for a tumour that could yet come back.

She then informed him that, as he couldn’t be trusted, she’d face the rest of her treatment alone. Well done, Cain.

April learned the truth about her mum’s death

Ross started the morning by vomiting up the bottle of vodka he’d confiscated from April. Finding him in his car, she was appropriately grossed out by his current living situation. When he told her how he was planning on leaving the village, the youth beseeched that he stay and teach her more about her mother.

Reluctantly, Ross agreed. Over lunch at the Hide, he fielded some difficult questions about mum Donna.

However, Ross’s excuses for Donna’s death didn’t sit right with April. And, as he kept digging himself into a hole, April learned how her mum had actually died trying to protect her. Talk about making a bad situation worse. And presumably the pizzas went to waste too, along with Cain’s tinnies.

    A visit from Anthony

Anthony popped around to see Ruby and Caleb with an apology for the day before. Describing himself as an ‘overprotective dad,’ he managed to smooth things over – while Steph volunteered her mum to make a coffee for Anthony.

She also had Ruby score an invite for Anthony to Cain’s birthday party before flouncing out to work. Alone together, the atmosphere turned frosty – while Anthony tried to reassure her that he planned on staying out of her business in future.

Later, she attempted to build bridges with Steph. A tearful Ruby apologised for Steph’s rough upbringing, reassuring her that she’d always loved her.

Outside, she informed Anthony that she’d sorted his invite to Cain’s party. As Anthony reiterated his hope that they could move on from the past – “things that are usually buried for a reason” – Ruby swallowed her obvious pain.

“Positivity at last,” laughed a smug Anthony. “Be a terrible shame to let anything ruin it.”

Ominous… but what are they both sweeping under the rug?

Jimmy and Nicola got festive in Emmerdale tonight

Jimmy was feeling regretful at having torn up Tom’s letter. As Nicola attempted to draw him out of his funk, he suggested that they channel Angel’s energy into something other than Tom – Christmas, for example.

Later, as the family set about decorating the house, Angel appeared to show signs of lightening up. However, her festive mood was short-lived – furtively hiding an incoming call from Hotten Prison and, presumably, dear uncle Tom.

  • Is Ruby’s dad the most vile Emmerdale character ever? Here’s all the evidence

Is Ruby’s dad the most vile Emmerdale character ever? Here’s all the evidence

He’s only recently arrived in Emmerdale, but Ruby’s dad is already proving to be a controversial figure – just ask his daughter. Anthony Fox made his debut last month, popping up to torment his estranged daughter and son-in-law… and he’s already at home in the village.

Ruby was mortified at the sight or her dad, leading to fan speculation that there’s a terrible secret lurking in his past. Whatever Anthony may have done to his daughter (and viewers have their ideas about that too), he’s quickly emerged as one of the soap’s most disliked figures.

Here’s a run-down of all Anthony’s bad behaviour so far.

Ruby’s dad on Emmerdale: Village snoop

This week’s episodes saw Anthony learn about Caleb’s affair with Tracy. Demanding answers, he confronted Caleb on Tuesday night (December 10) – only for Caleb to threaten to ‘smash his teeth down his throat’ if he didn’t back off.

His meddling continued afterwards as he questioned Ruby, wanting to know how she could stand for cheating Caleb.

“Please Caleb can you smash his teeth down his throat,” laughed one fan.

    He snapped at Ruby

It was during his conversation with Ruby that viewers caught a glimpse of the real Anthony. As Ruby went to leave, Anthony snapped, telling her to sit down. Known firebrand Ruby was surprisingly compliant – suggesting that there might be to rumours of abuse.

“Anthony showing his true colours to Ruby!!!” noted one shocked fan.

“Ruby’s dad showing his nasty side to Ruby again,” said another.

What is Ruby’s dad hiding on Emmerdale?

Ruby’s reaction to her dad – a shell-shocked look on her face – suggests there might be truth to rumours of childhood abuse. Indeed, many think that Anthony sexually abused Ruby as a child – and may even be Steph’s ‘real’ father.

This resulted in a panic attack last week, as Ruby was forced to make nice with Anthony in front of Steph and Caleb. But how long before someone takes notice?

“I think the real reason that Ruby does not want to be around her father has more to with him not standing up for her against her mother when she was a child. Because of the scene with the hyperventilating, I think he’s sexually abused her as a child,” wrote one fan.

“I’ve got an awful sickening theory about Ruby and her dad in #Emmerdale. He mentioned someone called Rob possibly being Steph’s dad but what if her dad was abusing her and he’s actually the father and that’s why she can’t bear to be around him,” said another.

He could be lying about his cancer

Another popular fan theory is that Anthony is lying about his cancer. He recently won grandaughter Steph on side by telling her that he had been diagnosed with cancer. However, some viewers think that he’s not being entirely honest about this either…

“He’s going to pretend to have cancer so he isn’t so hated on when it’s revealed that he’s Steph’s dad,” one fan theorised.

    He’s manipulative

Between his following Steph into the village and using her to force a relationship with Ruby, Anthony is clearly manipulating his doting granddaughter for his own ends.

Last week, he told her that he planned on leaving the village if he couldn’t reconcile with Ruby. Lo and behold, days later, and Steph had forced her mum into letting Anthony in – essentially telling her that she’d be leaving too, if Anthony did.

    He’s just plain creepy

Whatever Anthony may or may not have done (and our money’s on it being something terrible), Anthony is also… well, he’s a creep. If any further evidence is required, just look at that sneering face hogging the camera yesterday.

  • Emmerdale fans turn on Moira over Cain treatment: ‘Struggling to care’

Emmerdale fans turn on Moira over Cain treatment: ‘Struggling to care’

Fans of Emmerdale turned on Moira Dingle during Tuesday night’s episode of the soap – as she told Cain not to come home after he was arrested for assaulting a police officer. Cain’s tussle with the law came during Moira’s time of need, as she learned that she would require ongoing treatment to ensure that her tumour doesn’t return.

Cain, meanwhile, found himself in a prison cell after hitting Jai’s car, and then lashing out at PC Swirling. As he called Moira to explain himself, she reacted with fury – telling him not to bother coming home.

However, some fans found a bit of a double-standard in Moira’s reaction.

Moira receives backlash from Emmerdale fans after slamming Cain

Writing on social media as the scenes aired, fans shared their ire at Moira’s behaviour. And many were quick to recall how she was hardly innocent herself.

“Struggling to care about Moira being “let down” by Cain. She’s cheated on him, she’s beat on him, yet now she’s perfect and delicate because she’s ill?” said one annoyed fan.

“To hear Moira talk, you’d think she was Mother Teresa! She’s having a go at Cain for assaulting someone, when she’s done exactly the same thing & even killed Emma Barton! Talk about pot, kettle & black,” said another.

“I seem to be alone in my dislike of Moira. She’s done some horrible things to people over the years – including Cain. I wish they’d just write her annoying character out of Emmerdale,” wrote a third.

‘Grow up’ say fans as Cain’s moping continues

This comes after another week of moping for Cain. He’s been struggling with his conscience since sleeping with Ruby – driving those around him away with his pouting and unpredictable behaviour.

And fans have had enough – with many writing on social media to share their disappointment in the Dingle hard man’s mood swings.

“I know Moira has a brain injury, but even that wouldn’t stop her from seeing Cain’s guilt,” quipped one fan.

  • Moira and Cain storyline gets fans switching off as they fume at the writers

Moira and Cain storyline gets fans switching off as they fume at the writers

Fans of Emmerdale have been left fuming at recent developments between Moira and Cain – as she received some shocking news, and he continued to spiral out of control.

Learning that she would have to undergo radiotherapy due to the risk of her tumour returning, Moira was in a state. She reached out to Cain in her time of need, but he let her down – smashing into Jai’s car and assaulting a police officer.

As the episode ended, Cain was in a prison cell, and Moira was fuming – telling him not to bother coming home. This comes as Cain continues to struggle with his guilt over cheating on her with Ruby a few weeks ago.

Cain and Moira’s marriage isn’t in a good place, then – and fans really aren’t happy about it.

Emmerdale fans slam writing as Moira and Cain marriage hits the rocks

Writing on social media as last night’s episode aired, fans shared their frustration at the sorry state of affairs (no pun intended) between Cain and Moira.

“Wish they wouldn’t do this to Cain n Moira let them be happy it’s getting too gloomy,” wrote one fan under a post on Instagram.

“Will somebody sack these writers and bring new talented ones in. Not everybody has to have bad relationships. Why can’t you leave Moira and Cain alone? They’re good together. You always have to spoil a good thing,” bemoaned a second.

“What ruined this storyline was the Cain and Ruby scene. Cain should’ve been there for Moira and perhaps Ruby could bump off her old man. He deserves it,” another viewer threatened.

“I’m wondering if the writer(s) just doesn’t like happy couples. Doing her best to split Ruby and Caleb. Now splitting up one of the nicest couples Cain and Moria. Honestly it could be renamed Misery Dale,” a fourth joked.

Has the soap gone too far in its treatment of Cain and Moira?

If so, things are unlikely to get better anytime soon – as a tormented Cain decides to confess up about his fling with Ruby tonight.
