Cain’s ‘washed-up’ and Ross needs to ‘replace him’ as Emmerdale’s top dog, fans insist

He may have ruled the Emmerdale roost for over 20 years, but fans think Cain Dingle’s time is done – and Ross Barton needs to replace him. This comes amid a series of recent struggles for Cain, who has been in crisis since cheating on Moira with Ruby.

Terrified that he’d lose his wife to the brain surgery on her tumour, Cain spiralled out of control. Getting drunk, beating up Jimmy and sleeping with Ruby, it was quite the day for Cain.

Ever since, Cain’s been a tormented man. Last night, he wound up on the wrong side of the law. This came as he smashed up Jai’s car and assaulted a police officer. As a result, he wasn’t there for Moira in her time of need – who had been undergoing radiotherapy to prevent the tumour from coming back.

And, as Cain’s torment continues tonight, fans have had enough.

Make way for Ross: Emmerdale fans are done with ‘washed-up’ Cain

Writing on social media, fans shared their thoughts on Cain’s recent behaviour. And many agreed that the time has come for Cain to make way for the new alpha male in town – Ross Barton.

“Time to feud Ross with Cain. And Ross makes Cain leave. It has to happen, Ross needs to take the big spotlight now Cain’s washed up,” wrote one fan on Instagram.

“Cain enough is enough now! Stop making it harder for yourself and man up! Stop,” demanded another.

“Such a disappointing story line. Cain would be there for Moira. stop with this nonsense now please,” said a third, not buying Cain’s recent fall from grace.

Ross, by contrast, has been the talk of the town since returning to the village – beating up Mack, getting April kidnapped, and inspiring a conspiracy of haters (Charity, Caleb and Marlon).

He’s going nowhere soon – is it time for Ross to claim his crown as top dog in the village?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Moira told Cain not to come home after he was arrested

Emmerdale tonight saw Cain let Moira down as he continued to wallow in his own guilt. And Moira got more bad news from her consultant.

Meanwhile, April was still not in a forgiving mood and Ross made things worse, and Anthony was on the warpath.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Tuesday December 10.

Cain let Moira down in Emmerdale tonight

Moira was waiting (impatiently) for Cain at the hospital with Matty by her side. Moira insisted Cain would be there and sent Matty back to the farm. But back in the village, Cain had no intention of going and was stomping around the garage.

Liam caught him and tried to talk some sense into his friend. Cain fed him some nonsense about being scared, but Liam told him to stop being a coward. At last Cain realised he had to get there, especially when Moira left him a tearful voice message saying she was scared and the consultant couldn’t wait any longer to see her.

Cain rushed off – smashing Jai’s car on his way as it was blocking him in – and then he was pulled over by the police. PC Swirling told him Jai had complained and as Cain got shirty, he was arrested for criminal damage and assaulting a police officer. Oh Cain.

In his cell Cain was banging and shouting, begging to talk to Moira. PC Swirling gave Cain some sympathy and did eventually let him use a mobile phone. Cain confessed what had happened and Moira was upset and angry – she shouted she was fine and he wasn’t welcome back home.

She then tearfully confessed to Matty she had to have radiotherapy because they think there’s a chance it can come back. Cain has really mess up this time, but can he ever make this up to her?

    April on a downward spiral

Marlon and Rhona were trying to make things right with April, but she was not having any of it. She immediately went to see Ross and it came out that Marlon, Caleb, Charity and Jai had tried to set Ross up. That obviously made April even angrier.

And there was Mack making more snidey comments when he should really just shut up.

Marlon once again tried to talk to April about everything. He insisted he just was trying to protect his daughter and it had been wrong trying to set Ross up. April soon brushed him away and half-heartedly forgave him. But does she really mean it?

Nope! Because she grabbed a bottle of vodka and went to Donna’s grave where she angrily let rip at her mum. Ross found her and tried to talk her down.

Later Ross saw Mack and Moses together and realised what a close bond they have. It upset him and he hit the vodka he’d confiscated off April.

    Ruby shocked Anthony

Anthony summoned Caleb over and wanted answers over his affair with Tracy. Caleb was not interested in listening to any of Anthony’s questions and threatened him with violence.

Anthony soon told Ruby what Caleb had said – and that he knew about Tracy. Ruby shot her father’s concerns down and insisted her marriage was fine. He begged her to leave Caleb, but she silenced him by telling him she also slept around.

Jimmy read Tom’s letter and Angelica was hopeful her dad would support Tom now. But Jimmy tore it up, told Angel it was all manipulation and she was not to go near or contact Tom ever again. She stropped off. And we guess she probably will go near Tom again before the week is out…

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Steph’s real dad was ‘exposed’ and Ross is public enemy No.1

Emmerdale tonight saw Anthony reveal ‘the truth’ about Steph’s dad – flooring Ruby. But is he right?

Meanwhile, Ross made enemies of everyone in the village, who decided it was high time something was done about him.

Here’s a rundown of Emmerdale tonight, Friday December 6.

Anthony's claim left Ruby reeling (Credit: ITV)

Anthony dropped a bombshell about Steph’s real dad in Emmerdale tonight

Anthony was checking out of the B&B – for definite, he assured Bob. But Ruby stopped him and told him although she wouldn’t forgive him, said he could stay.

Steph invited him for dinner and Ruby was forced to pretend everything was fine. But it’s absolutely not and we can’t understand why no one else can see that!

Meanwhile Ross was having a bad day (more on that below) and had decided to drown his sorrows with Steph. Caleb then went out to get brandy, meaning Ruby and Anthony were left alone.

At that point Anthony’s demeanour changed and he started asking questions about Rob – and dropped the bombshell he always believed Rob was Steph’s real father. So is this mystery man really the dad? Ruby looked shocked, but is Anthony right? And is her fear because she’s worried her dad will expose her to Caleb?

    Ross kicked out

Cain had had enough and threw Ross out – literally – after what he’d done to Mackenzie.

Meanwhile, Mack was feeling sorry for himself, but Charity refused to give him sympathy. Ross then burst in and wanted to see Moses, but Charity threw him out too. She later even threatened Ross with social services.

    April furious at Marlon

Elsewhere, April was still upset and Marlon wanted to get to the bottom of it. April confided in Arthur that she feels like her mum didn’t love her and she has lost Donna all over again. Arthur advised her to tell her dad the truth.

When Marlon got home, he found April upset again – and skipping school again. April confessed what she had learned about Donna. But Marlon slipped up when April realised he had always known the truth.

With April raging at her dad for lying to her, Marlon turned his blame to Ross. He wants him gone…

So Ross has now upset half the village and Charity, Marlon and Caleb came together to do something about him. But what will the three of them do to get rid of him for good?

    Moira returned in Emmerdale tonight

Cain was still not coping when Moira strolled in as if she’d been on holiday rather than in hospital having brain surgery. She was looking pretty radiant and there was not a hair out of place on her head!

She later recounted everything to Cain that had happened with Holly during the operation and tearfully told him she had chosen him and the boys. But Cain couldn’t contain his own guilt in the moment – although he covered with Moira that it was his grief over Zak.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

Brenda will not forgive Eric and told him her decision was final.

And, Mary’s back! At last. Goodness knows where she’s been, but she is back and was every bit as fierce as ever when she backed Charity in the Woolpack and stood up to scary Ross Barton. Love her. More Mary please.

  • How has no-one noticed how upset Ruby is, fans wonder

How has no-one noticed how upset Ruby is, fans wonder

Everyone knows she hates him, but fans of Emmerdale have found themselves wondering why no-one seems to have questioned why exactly Ruby is acting the way she is towards her dad. Clearly there’s no love lost between Ruby and estranged father Anthony, but Ruby’s behaviour has been particularly extreme since his return.

Steph has been pushing for a reunion, even springing a surprise family gathering on Ruby on Wednesday. Although Ruby appeared to be warming towards the idea of a reconciliation, outside she suffered a panic attack.

Clearly, there’s something going on there.

Steph disgusted as Ruby brutally rejects her father

The next morning, Caleb found her, clearly quite upset by the day before. She stood firm in her position that she wants nothing to do with Anthony. And later, Steph walked in as she reiterated how she wouldn’t be remotely bothered if he died.

Ruby’s casual vitriol appalled Steph. And her threats of leaving the village had Caleb worried that Ruby’s vitriol might drive their daughter away again.

There’s clearly more to Ruby’s hatred of her dad than meets the eye – but why hasn’t anyone asked what, exactly?

Emmerdale fans frustrated following latest outburst from Ruby

Writing on X as last night’s episode aired, some viewers wondered why no-one had come out and asked what Ruby’s problem actually is. Surely, given her reaction, there must be more than mere bad feeling?

“Why is Caleb ignoring that ruby’s reaction to her dad is way more than just being a bit [CENSORED] off at being kicked out a million years ago. Wouldn’t you just ask… did he do something to you????!” asked one fan.

“You’d think it would cross someone’s mind that Ruby may have been abused, given the level of vitriol she has for her Dad,” pointed out another.

“Doesn’t hearing Ruby talk so harshly about her dad make Steph think that there’s more going/gone on than she knows about? So c’mon Ruby spill the beans!” said a third.

“I mean…it’s got to be obvious that Ruby’s reaction has to be something bigger than just getting kicked out of the house,” another agreed.

    What, exactly, is Anthony hiding?

  • Brenda will ‘go off into the sunset’ with Anthony, new fan theory predicts

Brenda will ‘go off into the sunset’ with Anthony, new fan theory predicts

A new Emmerdale fan theory has predicted that Brenda will leave the village with Anthony now she has split up from Eric Pollard. This follows the events of last night’s episode, in which Brenda ended things with Eric.

Unable to forgive his deception – nor his foolishness – Brenda dumped a heartbroken Pollard. Meanwhile, Anthony considered leaving the village after it became apparent that Ruby has no intention of forgiving him.

One soap viewer has put two and two together to question whether Brenda might meet Anthony at the B&B – and decide to leave the village with her new man.

Emmerdale fan theory predicts Brenda and Anthony to run off together

Writing on X as the scenes aired last night, one fan laid out their theory as to what Brenda might do now she’s a single woman.

“Brenda is going to move into B&B – where she will get close to Anthony and they will both go off into the sunset!! That will be her leaving storyline,” they wrote.

“Totally paving the way for Brenda’s upcoming exit sadly…” said another viewer of Eric and Brenda’s split.

Could Brenda move on to a new man, post-Pollard? Anything is possible, given rumours that actor Lesley Dunlop is set to leave the soap later this year.

    What is Anthony hiding?

Meanwhile, Ruby has continued to resist a reconciliation with dad Anthony. Earlier this week, Steph attempted to force the issue with an impromptu family gathering.

Ruby appeared to let bygones be bygones, but suffered a panic attack outside. The next day, she left Steph appalled after telling Caleb how she couldn’t care less if her dad died.

This has left some fans wondering whether there might be more to the situation than meets the eye – including theories of abuse, long-buried family secrets, and the particularly dark suggestion that Steph may, in fact, be Anthony’s daughter.

Amelia Flanagan’s ‘fabulous’ performance as April amid hostage showdown praised by fans

Fans of Emmerdale have praised actor Amelia Flanagan for her performance as April in last night’s episode. This came as Jade kidnapped the teenager, determined to get her money back from Ross (who, it turned out, never even had it).

Having her thugs dangle April from the roof of a high-rise cark park, Jade soon proved that she wasn’t to be messed with. Rushing to the rescue, Ross managed to avert disaster – although this was more thanks to the arrival of Aaron and Mack, with Jade’s money.

April learns the truth about her mother’s death

Back at home, April was in surprisingly good spirits, considering she’d just been kidnapped and dangled over the side of a building. However, there was worse to come as she learned about the tragic circumstances behind mum Donna’s death.

Understandably, April was shaken to learn that her mother had taken her own life at that very same car park.

And, amid the revelations, fans found themselves impressed by the young actress’s performance.

Emmerdale fans praise Amelia Flanagan as April

Writing as the episode aired, fans took to social media to share their thoughts. And many had good things to say about Amelia Flanagan, who plays April.

“Amelia Flanagan who plays April is FABULOUS tonight!! Amazing talent right in front of our eyes,” wrote one fan.

“It was really great acting from young ‘April’ in the episode. She really stood out,” said another.

“Amelia Flanagan who plays April is fabulous. Her sister and brother are Hope and Joseph in Corrie,” wrote a third, blending critical analysis with soap trivia.

“April is outacting all the adults,” a fourth viewer pointed out.

April’s story will continue tonight, as she continues to reckon with the truth about her mother’s death. Can April get the answers she needs?

  • Donna flashback scenes leave fans feeling very emotional: ‘So heartbreaking’

Donna flashback scenes leave fans feeling very emotional: ‘So heartbreaking’

Emmerdale aired old footage last night as Ross Barton had triggering flashbacks to when his lover Donna Windsor died. As he battled to save April from Jade and her henchmen, Ross had to fight his haunting past.

Fans found the old episodes interwoven with the new one very emotional. They felt they were reliving Donna’s death all over again.

    Emmerdale last night

Jade proved to Ross she meant business about getting her £10k back on Thursday December 5 when she kidnapped April Windsor. She and her henchpeople drove April to the Hotten multistory carpark (where no one was parked, conveniently) and told Ross to get there fast – and alone.

He hijacked Billy’s car and raced to the carpark. But once there he realised exactly the significance of the venue: it was where Donna had died in 2014. As the soap aired footage from the event, Ross struggled to compose himself over April’s screams. She was being dangled over the edge of the roof and would only be brought to safety when Jade got her cash.

Fortunately, Mackenzie had come to his senses. He arrived with Aaron in the nick of time to hand back the money. Well, the seven grand that was left, at least. Although April was saved, Jade still wants her last £3k.

Ross then took April home and a throwaway comment led April to find out the truth about her mum’s death. She had only been five years old at the time, so had been shielded from it by Ross and her dad, Marlon.

How did Donna die in Emmerdale?

Donna had terminal lung cancer. She knew she didn’t have much longer left to live, so she got involved in criminal activity, alongside then-lover Ross. It was all to raise money to make sure her daughter was cared for after she’d gone.

But when she got involved with crime lord Gary North things went very wrong. Donna had tried to set Gary up on drugs charges, but he caught her and threatened April unless she retrieved some explicit photos for him.

Things turned bad and Donna and Gary ended up in a stand-off on the rooftop. She held her gun at him, but he promised to make April the subject of one of his photos if she shot. Donna then handcuffed herself to Gary and jumped over the roof.

Telling Ross she loved him, Donna knew she was going to die anyway and that taking Gary with her was the only way to keep April – and other young girls – safe. She then took her own life.

Fans heartbroken as they rewatch Donna scenes in Emmerdale

As the soap showed the scenes of Donna’s demise again, those watching at home were even more upset second time around.

“Verity Rushworth still so missed,” said one on social media with crying emojis.

Another added: “Brought memories back watching the Donna scene. Felt quite emotional! Brilliant acting from Amelia!”

“This episode in 2014 was so heartbreaking so to bring it all back was emotional but it was a brilliant episode,” agreed a third.

A fourth wrote: “Made me ever SO anxious watching a clip of Donna really LOVED her character and can’t believe you killed her off.”

Jade kidnaps April and viewers slam ‘car crash of an episode’

In an eventful episode of Emmerdale last night, ruthless boxing promoter and gangster Jade kidnapped young April Windsor, hoping to use her as leverage against Ross.

Believing that Ross had taken her money, Jade kidnapped April, bundling her into the boot of her car and driving to a place Ross knew all too well… the high-rise parking garage where Donna had taken her own life.

As Ross begged for April’s life, Jade’s thugs showed no mercy – dangling the teenager over the edge of the roof. Thankfully, Mack and Aaron intervened, with Mack finally giving up the money he’d stolen in the first place.

From there, it was back to the village, where April learned the truth about her mother’s death, and Mack copped a beating. An eventful episode, but something about it didn’t sit right with viewers.

Viewers slam ‘car crash’ of an episode amid April kidnap

Taking to social media as the episode aired, fans were quick to share their thoughts on how events had unfolded – and few were satisfied with what had just went down.

“That was kind of a car crash for an episode,” sighed one fan in a discussion thread on Reddit. In the comments below, other viewers were quick to point out the many flaws in the episode.

“I feel like with it being the middle of the day surely somebody would’ve seen a literal child behind held over the edge of the car park and called the police?” asked another fan.

“The so called hard core criminals would be done for kidnap and attempted murder. The entire scene was like an episode of Laurel and Hardy,” wrote a third.

“The gangsters in Emmerdale are always so unbelievable. There must be cameras in that carpark as well,” another viewer pointed out.

“Would April really get into a car with a virtual stranger? Jade was on the left so she must’ve figured out that there would be someone else in there,” said one fan.

All very exciting… but was it a bit much?

Cain manipulates Jasmine into bed in Classic Emmerdale

Jasmine meets a smug-looking Cain at the haulage yard. While he jokes that he knew she couldn’t resist his charms, Jasmine insists she only came to tell him to back off.

However, Cain won’t take no for an answer, and tells her that he knows she’s not gay – insisting that there’s much more going on between them. As Jasmine admits to feeling confused about her relationship with Debbie, Cain tells her that the only way to know for sure is to try other options.

Flattered, Jasmine gives in to pushy Cain’s flattery – and they fall into bed together.

The next day, Jasmine breaks down to Laurel and tells her that she had sex with a boy from school. When Jasmine admits she’s worried she might be pregnant, Laurel advises her to get the morning after pill.

After swearing Laurel to secrecy, Jasmine is at the bus stop alone. Cain drives up and demands that she get in. Reluctantly, she climbs in – accusing Cain of using her.

Cain promises her that his feelings are genuine, and tries to convince her with a passionate kiss. Trying to keep her cool, Jasmine asks for a lift into Hotten so that she can get the pill.

Back home, Jasmine tells Laurel that she’s taken the appropriate action. Relieved, Laurel tells Jasmine that she should confide in Debbie – unaware that Jasmine has slept with her girlfriend’s father.

    Cain blackmails Carl

Cain tells Matthew that he managed to get rid of the intruders at the haulage yard – knowing full well that it had actually been Carl and Chas. He says that as his methods involved violence, he wiped the security tapes clean so as not to have a counter charge on his hands.

Later, he tries to blackmail Carl with the tape. Will Carl give in to Cain’s demands?
