  • 4 reasons why Ella will never dethrone Meena Jutla as ‘Top Village Killer’ no matter how hard she tries

4 reasons why Ella will never dethrone Meena Jutla as ‘Top Village Killer’ no matter how hard she tries

Emmerdale fans got a little excitable on Thursday (August 22) as Ella Forster went on a bit of a birthday rampage.

That doesn’t mean she got a bit tiddly on too many Proseccos, and demolished her birthday cake by herself (although she did do this… but not by scoffing it all down.)

Instead, Ella blew up at Mandy over a selfie shared online, had a rather awkward encounter with the brother of the girl she killed, punched a nurse, and got nicked. Not your typical celebrations, then. And she didn’t even get to blow out any candles.

However, while Ella’s meltdown left some fans wondering about whether she’ll return to the village, other viewers have tipped her to be the soap’s next big baddie.

But will she ever be able to top the malevolence of mad, bad, and deadly-to-know Emmerdale villainess Meena Jutla? In a word, no. And here’s why.

    Ella is arrested
Ella doesn’t have what it takes to be a top tier soap serial killer (Credit: ITV)

    Body count

It seems a little distasteful to highlight, but that won’t stop us: Ella is going to have to work on her body count if she’s to challenge Meena’s reputation.

Meena bumped off at least five other characters, including two (her dad and BFF) as part of her off-screen backstory.

At the moment, Ella only has one confirmed kill to her name. And, at this stage, we don’t exactly know all the details surrounding Joanne’s death. You never know, it might turn out there are as-yet undisclosed details around the killing which even Ella has buried deep, deep down… and portray her in a more sympathetic light.

So if she wants to be considered on the level of Meena, Ella needs to bury people, not feelings… and get those numbers up!

    Meena was flipping scary

Sure, Ella’s a bit useful with her fists (as Wendy’s conk found out) and a little aggressive towards tasty tokens of endearment from her friends (why would anyone ever waste cake by decorating the ground with it?), but she doesn’t have the compassionless, merciless look Meena had.

Ella, meanwhile, is all doe-eyed and smoochy lipped for Dr Liam Cavanagh. If that happened with Meena you’d be concerned why her pupils were so enlarged – and whether she was about to lean in and bite someone’s throat out rather than linger about for a tender kiss goodbye.

    Ella looks at Liam
Is this really a look a top village killer would give? We think not (Credit: ITV)

    Family connections

Any soap murderer can bump off a few randoms to establish their murderous potential. But to really excel as a first class psychopath, it is necessary to take out a few loved ones along the way.

Meena’s dad and (other) sister may not have appeared on screen, but she had sister Manpreet to torment, and demonstrate just how much of a wrong ‘un she was.

Ella, however, doesn’t have any close relatives in the village to victimise, and really prove what a nasty piece of work she may be. So that goes against her, too.

    Regrets? She’s had a few

To get ahead as a soap serial killer, you need to be more than a little bit dead inside yourself.

Ella seems – through her flashes of regret, and self-examination, and tears – to have a little bit of soul and humanity left. That won’t do – must die harder!

Soap serial killers needs to revel in and relish their dastardly deeds, too. Meena had the potential to murder while painting her nails. She gloried in the death and chaos she unleashed.

Ella, meanwhile, still hasn’t got over knocking off her best pal years ago. Some people just don’t have what it takes to be a bloodthirsty homicidal maniac, we’re afraid.

  • What did Ella actually do to Joanne and why does Gary hate her so much?

What did Ella actually do to Joanne and why does Gary hate her so much?

So, Gary turned up at Ella’s birthday party in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale (Thursday, August 22) and truly ruined the occasion.

He gave Ella a card with a photo of Joanne in it – his dead sister who Ella was responsible for killing when they were kids.

Here’s exactly what Ella did to Joanne and why Gary has it in for her!

Emmerdale: Gary crashed Ella’s 30th birthday party

This evening in the Dales, Mandy surprised Ella for her 30th birthday. She kicked off the celebrations with a breakfast and a pamper in the salon but Ella wasn’t too keen.

Rhona then notified Ella of the before and after photos of her that Mandy had posted on social media, and, oh boy, did that set Ella off!

She soon grabbed the carrot cake that Mandy had bought her and broke it to pieces, slamming her for putting her face out there.

Later on, all seemed to be forgiven as she enjoyed a sing-song at her surprise party in the Woolpack. However, as she grabbed the mic, a familiar (and unwelcome) face turned up. Gary – Joanne’s brother – had turned up to wish her a not-so-happy birthday.

He handed her a card with an image of Joanne inside of it, soon sharing his hopes that this birthday would be Ella’s last.

Ella then went off on a mad rage, attacking Wendy and doing her best to get sent back to prison – where she thought she belonged. It looks like her birthday wish was about to be granted as she was carted off in a police car following the incident.

Emmerdale's Ella and Joanne in a photograph
Joanne was only a child when she died (Credit: ITV)

So, how did Ella actually kill Joanne?

Ella – also known as Ruth – was revealed to be a child-killer earlier this year. This came out as attended the funeral of an old woman called June.

June turned out to have been the mum of Ella’s childhood bestie, Joanne. Although, they weren’t exactly the closest of mates when Joanne died!

When Joanne was eleven, Ella got jealous of her new friends. She feared that June wouldn’t love her as much if she stopped hanging out with Joanne. June felt like a second mum to Ella, and she wasn’t prepared to lose her.

So, Ella ended up fighting with Joanne until she attacked her so much that she was dead.

She then went to prison for her crime and changed her identity. But, this didn’t stop Gary from tracking her down, we see!

Emmerdale tonight: Ella attacked Wendy, Gabby taught Jai a lesson in Karma, and Will still hasn’t heard from Kim

Emmerdale tonight saw Ella chuck a perfectly good carrot cake on the floor (how outrageous!) and then proceed to chuck multiple artificial plants at poor Wendy Posner…

Elsewhere, Gabby arranged for the contents of Holdgate to be cleared out, resulting in Jai walking into an empty house. The look on his face was of pure horror, and we loved every second of it!

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale on Thursday, August 22.

Emmerdale tonight: Ella doesn’t do birthdays

Mandy thought it would be a great idea to surprise Ella with a ‘proper coffee’ and some of ‘her buns’ for breakfast before giving her a pamper at the salon. It was her 30th birthday after all!

But, Mandy couldn’t have gotten things more wrong as Ella realised that she’d posted the before and after photos on her social media page for everyone to see…

With Ella smashing her birthday carrot cake on the ground (maybe chocolate cake is more her vibe?), Liam then reassured her that Mandy wasn’t exactly ‘Social Media Personality of the Year.’ It wasn’t as if the pics would go viral…

At her birthday party in the Wooly, Ella started to let her hair down and have a sing song with her mates. Mandy had gone to town on the decorations, filling the place with lots of leopard print balloons (remind us to hire Mandy as our next party planner!)

However, June’s son and Joanne’s sister (you know, the girl she killed) Gary then turned up after tracking her down. He then gave Ella a card with a photo of Joanne in it.

Well, that was the last straw for Ella, wasn’t it?! As Wendy tried to comfort her back at the surgery, Ella was convinced that she deserved to rot in prison.

She then set out to get sent down again by attacking Wendy, slapping her before going on to throw lots of plant pots at her.

Ella then made Wendy phone the police to report the crime, soon getting arrested and willingly jumping into the police car. What a chaotic 30th!

    Emmerdale tonight: Sharma drama

With Jai making sure that he comes out on top during the divorce, Nicola and Gabby sided with Laurel as Jai’s pettiness continued.

At the cafe, Nicola enjoyed watching Jai suffer as she served him the smoothie he ordered – with a few added extras! She watched him spit with disgust as she revealed that she’d added salt and chilli to the concoction (gross, but nothing he didn’t deserve!)

Later on, Jai returned to Holdgate and got a right shock as he entered an emptied-out building. With all of his furniture gone, the only thing inside was a cardboard sign that read ‘Karma! Mr Sharma!’

Whilst he accused Laurel, Gabby and Nicola of scheming, they didn’t let on that they were the brains behind the clear out.

Gabby then took Laurel on a little trip to show her a fully-loaded van full on Jai’s things. She suggested selling them for a profit for Laurel couldn’t bring herself to stoop so low.

Laurel soon panicked though when Jai shared his intentions of calling the police… Maybe she should put everything back before things get too out of hand… Eek!

Moira crosses her arms and watches on angry in Emmerdale

Moira and Cain clashed over a bull

Not the usual thing to argue about here, but tonight saw Cain and Moira clash over a bull.

Yes, Moira wanted to buy a new bull for the farm. She certainly had Nate’s approval too.

However, Cain found out and told her that they had a perfectly good bull already. They couldn’t even afford a new one. Moira was adamant that this new bull would be a great thing for them though. So, it looks like they’re getting a new bull then!

    Kim really has Will sweating

With Billy and Dawn worrying for Evan as he prepares for another round of chemo, Will sat at Home Farm struggling to contact Kim.

Having not heard from Kim since she jetted off after Rose’s disappearance, Will has been trying to contact her.

With Kim failing to answer the phone yet again, Will started to worry that his relationship really was over for good. Shouldn’t have slept with Rose then, should you Will?

  • Emmerdale: Piper’s alive – but fans aren’t impressed with soap’s ‘cruel’ decision: ‘Should be ashamed of yourselves’

Emmerdale: Piper’s alive – but fans aren’t impressed with soap’s ‘cruel’ decision: ‘Should be ashamed of yourselves’

Fans of Emmerdale were left stunned last night (Wednesday, August 21), as the soap did a huge U-turn on Piper the Dog’s death.

Viewers were all grieving along with Belle as they watched the heartbroken pet owner bury her pup’s casket (so many tissues were used!)

But… her pup was actually still alive! But, despite being relieved for Piper, fans have still found something to complain about.

    Emmerdale: Piper the Dog’s alive!

Last week, Emmerdale crushed all of our hearts as evil Tom decided to run Belle’s adorable pooch Piper over with his car.

He then told Belle that he’d spent ALL night trying to save her, but it was best for her to be put down.

Belle said one last goodbye to Piper but soon put two and two together… She realised that Tom had been responsible for Piper’s tragedy (go Belle!)

Later on, she cried her eyes out as she lowered Piper’s casket into the ground.

Little did she know though that Piper was actually still alive! Tom had cruelly made out that Piper was dead just to upset Belle (ABSOLUTELY EVIL!)

And, then, last night, he handed Piper over to her new owners whilst making out that Piper’s previous owner was a horrible piece of work (if only they knew the truth…)

Fans have blasted the soap for playing with their emotions (Credit: ITV)

Piper “death” decision leaves fans furious

With Piper alive, you’d be forgiven for thinking that viewers would have been over the moon… And, whilst they were happy to see Belle’s furry friend alive and kicking, the decision actually caused many complaints.

Fans can’t believe that the soap has us all grieve for Piper for a number of days before giving us a huge retcon and revealing that Piper was still breathing. How cruel to play with everyone’s emotions like that! It’s not on!

One fan complained: “You should be ashamed of yourselves for making viewers think Piper was dead. Doesn’t excuse the scenes that aired last week. Can be very triggering for people.”

Another person added: “Hold it, hold it, hold it! Are you seriously telling me Piper isn’t dead and we’ve been through this charade since last Friday for nothing?!”

A third viewer blasted: “Hope your writers are not doing the “ha ha we got you all dance” because A) Tom is still depicted as hurting Piper with injections & she’s wearing a cone B) You’ve lost viewers & NTA votes C) You’ve alienated people against a serious storyline. This is still not your finest hour!”

Emmerdale just confirmed Piper the Dog’s real fate – and now we can finally sleep at night

Piper the Dog’s real fate has been confirmed in Emmerdale – and she’s alive! The adorable pup was believed to be dead after evil Tom deliberately ran her over, but it’s now been revealed she’s OK.

While Piper appears to have some injuries, at least she’s still with us. However, it remains to be seen if Belle will ever be reunited with her beloved dog.

Here’s everything you need to know about Piper in Emmerdale.

    What happened to Piper?

Evil Tom has used Piper as a weapon against Belle ever since they got married. He knows how much Belle loves Piper, so has been deliberately mean to the poor dog. He previously locked her outside while he and Belle were in Wales and also once injected Piper to make her seem unwell.

In recent scenes, Tom deliberately hit Piper with his car while no one was around. He took her from Lydia and Sam’s house while they were out at the pub with Belle.

He then used Piper’s injuries as a way to get Belle to speak to him. Tom assured Belle he would do all he could to save Piper, however the following day he informed Belle that Piper was going to have to be put down. In heartbreaking scenes, Belle bid farewell to her beloved dog.

It wasn’t long until she came to the conclusion that Tom was to blame for Piper’s death. However, no one would listen to Belle’s accusations and instead took Tom’s side. How awful!

Emmerdale confirms Piper the Dog’s fate

Despite Piper having been ‘buried’ in heartbreaking scenes, it’s now been confirmed that she’s alive and well.

In a shock twist in Wednesday’s episode (August 21), Tom was seen handing over Piper to an unknown couple. The pair seemed to think they were rescuing the dog, seemingly unaware that Piper had actually been taken from Belle.

Tom made out that Piper’s previous owner was a horrible woman who had neglected the little dog. Can this guy stoop any lower?!

Meanwhile, Belle is unaware her dog is alive and still believes she buried her. However, she is convinced Tom is responsible for what happened to Piper and appears determined to expose him once and for all. Go Belle!

  • Emmerdale tonight: Piper’s true fate was revealed, Jai stooped to a new low and Mandy got carried away

Emmerdale tonight: Piper’s true fate was revealed, Jai stooped to a new low and Mandy got carried away

Emmerdale tonight saw Laurel left devastated when Jai lied about his finances during their first mediation session. The former couple’s split is becoming more bitter by the day and their divorce looks set to get messy.

Elsewhere, Tom gained access to Belle’s laptop and found out she’d contacted the police. Also, Piper’s true fate was revealed while Gabby and Vinny continued to grow closer.

Everything was happening in Emmerdale on Wednesday August 21.

Mediation was tense for Jai and Laurel (Credit: ITV)

    Jai’s lies

Laurel and Jai’s first mediation session arrived. Laurel was feeling uncertain beforehand, as she worried if Jai would be thoughtful or not. Ruby gave her some advice in cafe as she compared Caleb to Jai (erm, okay then…)

The mediation session got off on the wrong foot after Jai arrived late. He came bounding in, insisting he didn’t want to be difficult (yeah, right!) Things soon took a turn, with Jai claiming he’d sold Holdgate to his sister and Tenants to Liam.

He said he had debts to pay off after making bad decisions, leaving Laurel baffled. Laurel pleaded with him during the meeting, but he continued to insist he was skint. She then lashed out, but Jai continued to put on act in front of the lawyer.

Later on, Caleb and Jai met up to discuss business, with Jai admitting he felt guilty about what he’d done to Laurel. Caleb insisted Jai owes Laurel nothing and encouraged him to continue with his lies.

After Jai left, Caleb told Ruby he was surprised at how trusting Jai is. Is Caleb up to something?

Tom spied on Belle – again

Tom let himself into Belle’s home (nothing new there) and attempted to guess the password to her laptop. He grew frustrated when he realised she’d changed it, but after some deliberation he managed to correctly guess it.

Tom then put malware software on her laptop in a bid to watch what she’s up to. He headed home and proceeded to look through Belle’s emails and search history, discovering she’d contacted the police and been searching about domestic abuse.

Tom later met up with a lawyer friend and sought some advice about his divorce. He told him that Belle was making false accusations about him.

    Mandy got carried away

Rhona, Manpreet, Ella and Mandy decided to head for lunch at The Hide to chat all about Mandy’s honeymoon.

Ella made a swift exit after the meal, but accidentally left her bag behind. Her driving license fell out as Rhona picked up the bag, and they discovered Ella is turning 30 tomorrow.

Mandy was quick to insist they should plan something special for Ella, while Manpreet wasn’t so sure.

    Piper’s alive!

In a shock twist, it was revealed that Piper the Dog is actually alive and well! The poor pup has definitely sustained some injuries as she was seen with a cone around her head.

And, just when we thought Tom couldn’t get any worse, he did. He gave Piper away to an unknown couple, who were under the impression they were rescuing Piper. He told them Piper’s former owner hadn’t been looking after her.

Meanwhile, Belle was seen speaking to Piper’s grave as she still believes her beloved dog is dead. Evil.

    Also in tonight’s Emmerdale…

Also, Vinny expressed his interest in spending some more time with Thomas, despite Gabby insisting he doesn’t have to. Later on, Vinny and Gabby headed to the playground with Thomas. While there, they shared a touching moment when Vinny said he felt Liv would be happy for them. How cute.

Gabby wants to keep it ‘fun,’ Vinny is growing attached: All the reasons Emmerdale’s latest couple will never work

Emmerdale’s Gabby and Vinny are the soap’s newest couple, with the pair having finally confessed their feelings for one another. Gabby and Vinny have been back and forth a lot, as nothing is ever straightforward in the Dales.

While they appear to be love’s young dream, it looks unlikely that Gabby and Vinny’s relationship could stand the test of time. But, you never know – it is Emmerdale, after all.

Here, we take a look at the reasons why we think Gabby and Vinny’s romance won’t work in Emmerdale.

    Vinny and Gabby kiss
Vinny and Gabby have fallen for one another (Credit: ITV)

    Gabby and Vinny’s differences

It’s no secret that Gabby and Vinny are very different characters. Gabby is no stranger to drama and trouble, while Vinny is much more reserved – despite being a Dingle. Gabby even admitted she just wanted to have ‘fun’ with Vinny, while he was noticeably developing feelings.

Actress Rosie Bentham, who plays Gabby, has even expressed her surprise over Gabby and Vinny being romantically matched together.

“It’s a bit of a chalk and cheese situation, isn’t it? When the story got pitched to me, I was like: ‘Oh, how is that going to happen?’ But as the story goes on, the writing has been quite funny and light-hearted,” she admitted to Digital Spy.

But, they do say opposites attract.

    Relationships

Historically, Gabby has always gone for bad boys. Remember her toxic affair with Jamie Tate – who she shares son Thomas with – and engagement to lying rogue Nicky Miligan? However, maybe a good guy is exactly what Gabby needs!

Vinny’s only former partner is his late wife, Liv Flaherty. She died in 2022 when a catastrophic storm hit the village, leaving him devastated. Liv was also asexual, therefore she and Vinny never had sex, meaning he was still a virgin when he got to know Gabby.

Losing his virginity was a big deal to Vinny, especially with Gabby being far more experienced than him. But, they got over any hurdles and managed to seal the deal – much to Vinny’s excitement.

    Vinny and Liv

    Liv and Gabby’s friendship

Gabby was close friends with Vinny’s wife Liv, who sadly died in 2022. The pair formed a close bond and even lived together at one point.

It may seem odd that Gabby’s now started a relationship with her friend’s widower, given how close she and Liv were. Or, odd for Vinny to get together with one of his late wife’s close friends.

However, the couple appear to have accepted this. Liv’s brother Aaron gave Vinny his blessing when he heard about his new romance. Also, Vinny has insisted he feels Liv would be happy for him and Gabby. But, is this situation all just a little to uncomfortable?

    Vinny and Belle?

With Vinny and Gabby being very opposite, it’s likely they could find a better match in the village. For a while, it seemed like Vinny may get together with Belle Dingle, with the pair growing close.

He’s been a huge support to Belle, who has been at the centre of a domestic abuse storyline with her husband Tom King. Emmerdale fans have even predicted that Vinny will be the one to find out Belle is being abused.

Is love on the cards for Vinny and Belle? We reckon they could be a better suited couple!

    Emmerdale fans have their say

Fans of Emmerdale have been keen to share their opinions on the soap’s latest couple. Unsurprisingly, many fans aren’t convinced that things will work out between Vinny and Gabby.

“Sorry but I can’t see Gabby and Vinny together,” one Emmerdale viewer wrote on X. Another said: “Gabby is just using Vinny. How long before he realises?”

A third fan said: “Vinny and Gabby? That would never happen in real life,” while a final viewer said: “Gabby & Vinny just aren’t a good match.”

Emmerdale: Belle goes to the police about Tom

This week, Belle was left heartbroken (and so was the rest of the nation) after finding out that her beloved pet dog – Piper – had sadly passed away after being knocked over by a car.

It wasn’t long before she started accusing Tom of killing the pup, sharing her concerns with Lydia. However, Belle’s loved ones didn’t believe that he would do something like that.

Realising that Tom had been abusing her, Belle decided to take action and go to the police about her abusive husband.

She explained how he’d been treating her, bringing up Claire’s Law. She, however, didn’t want to officially report Tom…

Tom’s past with Chas seems to have been forgotten…

So, let’s get this right… when Charity had concerns about Tom’s behaviour, none of the Dingles sided with her.

And, when Belle voiced her upset of Tom, the Dingles were quick to blame everything on Belle’s mental illness. At not one point has Chas remembered that Tom actually stalked her and made her life hell in the past.

Now, fans aren’t impressed with the oversight, noting that Chas would’ve been the first person they’d expect to support Belle and believe that something’s up with Tom’s behaviour.

One fan wrote: “This story has such flaws. If Charity is concerned, how come she hasn’t discussed it with Chas who had abuse from Tom’s dad, Carl? They haven’t involved Chas in any of the storyline yet she knows how twisted the men are more than anyone. Also, with a brother like Cain, why is Belle not turning to him for protection?”

Another person added: “Charity did say she’d be keeping a close eye on Tom. But I think it should be Chas as she’s had experience dealing with Tom before.”

A third viewer previously wondered: “The Dingles are thick as [bleep]. Have they forgotten all the [bleep] Tom put Chas through?”

Emmerdale: Mack’s used up all of his nine lives – here’s why he MUST die in next week’s bull chase

Stunts and life-threatening events happen quite often in Soap Land and Emmerdale village is all too familiar with this.

One villager in particular – Mack Boyd – has had a fair few near-death experiences of his own (and some have been his own doing!)

With Mack being injured by a bull next week, here’s why we think Mack must be killed off!

Emmerdale: Mack – Superman or a super fool?

When he first entered the Dales, Mack was rather liked by fans as Moira’s cheeky brother, but this feeling was short-lived as he got himself involved with Chloe Harris.

There was a moment when it looked as though Charity and Mack were soulmates, but after Mack’s fling with Chloe and huge baby daddy bombshell… well, let’s just say, he’s never been redeemed since, despite Charity rekindling their romance.

Over the course of his time in the village, Mack’s found himself in quite an unfortunate number of near-death scenarios… but we’re struggling to feel sorry for him.

You see, Mack has a habit of putting himself in sticky situations that could very well cost him his life. He never seems to learn from his mistakes though…

Last year, Mack found himself in a car accident with Charity and Chloe which only occurred as a result of his cheating. He then acted as a hero and saved Charity from the wreckage whilst Chloe ended up falling off a cliff (and somehow surviving!)

Then there was the time after this when he was held hostage by Chloe’s dad, Harry… (again, totally avoidable if Mack had kept it in his pants!) He somehow managed to get away though despite being threatened with a gun!

And, let’s not forget the time Charity stabbed him in the middle of the night after mistaking him for Harry. An incident he survived yet again… Is this guy immortal or something?

After all of this… could a bull kill Boyd?

Mack loves to stare death right in the face, doesn’t he? It’s like he lives for the thrill.

Next week, after making an enemy out of John (his own doing, surprise, surprise!), Mack is chased by a bull, before being injured in the barn.

Believing that John is behind the incident, Mack soon collapses after feeling rather woozy. Charity then fears that Mack’s injuries are more serious than first thought!

There’s only so many times someone can have a near-death experience and survive… If Mack survives this one, then he really must be invincible because there’s no chance that somebody would make it through everything Mack has done in real life. NO CHANCE! But, would killing Mack off be such a bad thing?

Emmerdale: Has Mack had his day?

Mack and Charity don’t have chemistry (there’s no shying away from this one!) They’ve never been able to restore the bond they had pre-Chloe, and it’s becoming quite hard to watch the pair together.

The problem is, Mack hasn’t been redeemed for his cheating and lies (and it’s unlikely that he ever will or CAN be!) Fans have branded Mack as ‘insufferable’ for his constant narcissistic and childish behaviour (grow up mate, driving John’s van into the lake was a bit immature…) And, can we really blame them? How many more times can Mack escape death?

There would be something quite satisfying if after everything he’s been through, a bull is the thing that brings him down!
