Emmerdale tonight: Laurel and Gabby proved to be a great team, Vinny and Gabby are loved-up and Tom is still evil

Emmerdale tonight saw Jai left squirming when he realised Laurel is the one buying his shares in The Hide. Laurel and Gabby wasted no time in rubbing Jai’s nose in their new plans.

Elsewhere, Vinny sought reassurance from Gabby as their relationship continued to heat up. Also, Belle took serious action against Tom after another showdown.

It was all happening in Emmerdale on Tuesday August 20.

    Laurel’s plan

Gabby happily informed Jai she is planning to buy his shares, much to his annoyance.

Later on, Gabby sent Jai over an email outlining her proposal. He began quizzing her about where she’d sourced the money from. Eventually, Gabby revealed Laurel is the new investor.

As Jai continued to belittle Laurel, she and Gabby hit back at him, prompting him to eventually back down.

Jai later signed the contract, but then took a suspicious phone call. He informed the caller that the money would be with them tomorrow before saying Laurel doesn’t know what’s coming. We love plotting Jai… oh no, wait, we don’t!

    Belle buried Piper

Belle arrived at the vets to collect Piper, but was left heartbroken when Tom revealed Piper had already been discarded of.

An upset Belle headed home, but Sam and Lydia then told her that Tom had already arranged to bring Piper’s body round. Tom then arrived, insisting Belle hadn’t listened to him and Piper was simply in his car, not in the surgery.

Later, Tom, Belle, Lydia and Sam proceeded to bury Piper. Belle took the opportunity to reveal what Tom did to Piper at the Welsh cottage, but everyone took Tom’s side, despite Belle’s pleas.

After another showdown with Tom, Belle headed to the police station. She sought advice about being abused and brought up Claire’s Law, in a bid to find out about Tom’s past.

    What will Belle find out?

    Vinny and Gabby’s romance

Charity apologised to Vinny for mocking him. She encouraged him to communicate with Gabby and share his insecurities.

Vinny later headed to The Hide to chat with Gabby about their ‘different experience levels’. A hugely awkward conversation followed, but the couple appeared to settle things.

In the evening, Gabby went to The Woolpack to celebrate her new business venture. She ordered a bottle of Prosecco as she eagerly waited for Vinny to arrive to meet her. While she was alone at the bar, Tom attempted to chat to Gabby.

He complimented her, admitting he finds her attractive, before mocking her romance with Vinny. Unimpressed by Tom’s comments, Gabby brushed him off. Vinny arrived just in time, with Gabby passionately kissing him in front of everyone at the pub.

    Also in tonight’s Emmerdale…

Mandeep told Ella that Liam still thinks about her and quizzed her over rekindling her relationship with him. Ella shot down any possibility of getting back with Liam. She and Manpreet later headed on a girls’ night out together.

  • Emmerdale tonight: Poor Piper’s dead and Sarah’s still not had a ‘proper’ Dingle experience

Emmerdale tonight: Poor Piper’s dead and Sarah’s still not had a ‘proper’ Dingle experience

Emmerdale tonight saw the aftermath of Piper’s road ‘accident’ take place. Emmerdale really decided to break all of our hearts and kill off the little pup. We’re never going to forgive them for this one!

Elsewhere, Sarah was excited to break the law as Charity took her joyriding. However, she soon realised that she’d never committed any sort of crime after all.

Here’s a recap of everything that happened in Emmerdale on Monday August, 19th.

Emmerdale's Piper the Dog is adorable
    Piper’s no more (Credit: ITV)

One of the most heartbreaking soap deaths ever – RIP Piper

After purposely running Piper over with Belle’s retro Mini, Tom tried to act like a hero tonight. He relished in telling Belle and Lydia that he’d spent all night trying to save the little pup’s life.

However, he then confessed that it would be the kindest thing for Piper to be put down due to the extent of her injuries (sob!) We were hoping for some miracle by this point. Surely Emmerdale wouldn’t be so cruel as to kill off our favourite soap pet like… ever?!

We were wrong though, as Belle entered the consultation room at the vets and said one last goodbye to her forever friend. With Belle unable to watch Piper take her last breath, Tom was the one to stay with Piper at the very end.

Tom then told Belle that Piper had passed away. Off he then went to take the rest of the day off to process her passing (let’s hope the image of Piper’s adorable little face haunts him until the day he dies!)

By the end of the ep, Belle gave Tom a piece of her mind after accusing him of killing Piper. She told him that he made her ‘skin crawl’ (we can only agree Belle!) He then told her that she’d regret saying that she doesn’t love him anymore…

Is it possible for Tom to stoop any lower? We’ve already been traumatised enough by Piper’s death, we can’t take anything else!

Sarah’s yet to break the law

Sarah’s been feeling down lately. She’s complained about missing out on doing all of the things others her age do. She especially felt upset when she’d had a few alcoholic drinks at Mandy and Paddy’s wedding, only to be told off by Charity for drinking whilst on medication.

Hoping to give Sarah a ‘proper’ Dingle experience, Charity surprised her by taking her out joyriding in a fancy car tonight. Sarah was thrilled to be taking the wheels for a spin. She felt like a right little rebel.

Once they returned back to the village, Sarah’s inner criminal continued to make an appearance. She suggested torching the car so that they wouldn’t be caught for the theft (Sarah really went from 0 to 100 super fast, right?)

There was one slight problem with this though… the car wasn’t actually stolen. Yes, Sarah found out that she was still on the right side of the law when Vinny put his foot in it and revealed the car to be borrowed off his mate. Awks! We’ve never seen someone so upset about not breaking the law before…

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

Jai and Laurel were still bickering like teenagers, unable to remain civil with each other whilst at work in The Hide (anyone else fed up of their same repetitive arguments yet?) Jai then dropped the bombshell that he was selling his shares of The Hide to the highest bidder! We could practically see the cogs whirring in Laurel and Gabby’s minds after this one as Laurel offered to buy Jai’s shares.

Gabby seemed to be doing hardly any work tonight (no change there) as she flirted with one of the customers at The Hide… in front of Vinny. Vinny’s jealousy was obvious as he quizzed Gabby on ‘Handsome Chris.’ Chill Vinny, this whole thing with Gabby’s only meant to be a bit of ‘fun,’ right?

  • As Charity takes Sarah on a true ‘Dingle experience’ – here’s what it takes to be a ‘proper Dingle’

As Charity takes Sarah on a true ‘Dingle experience’ – here’s what it takes to be a ‘proper Dingle’

The Dingle family are an integral part of Emmerdale. Well, without them, the village would be pretty much empty, and very, very quiet. Known for their criminal ways and fierce loyalty to one another, it takes a special type of person to risk getting on the wrong side of a Dingle.
Tonight in Emmerdale, Charity tried to give Sarah a ‘true Dingle experience’, when she took her out in a seemingly stolen sports car. This got us thinking, what is a ‘proper Dingle’?
Here’s everything you need to know about the Dingles in Emmerdale.
    Charity Dingle in Emmerdale

    All about the Dingle family

The Dingle family was first introduced in 1994, with Ben Dingle being the very first Dingle to arrive in the village. From then on, the Dingles have continued to expand and are now the biggest family in the Dales.
Many, many characters have married into the family, from Moira to Mackenzie. Dingle weddings are always a big occasion, with the entire family coming together. The latest Dingles to tie the knot are Mandy and Paddy – luckily, they won’t have to go through the hassle of changing their surnames.
The Dingles are known for causing chaos in the village and are very protective of another. While you can’t question their family loyalty, you can definitely question some of their actions.
So, what makes a proper, authentic Dingle?
The Dingle family watch Caleb drink from the welly
You’re not a true Dingle until you’ve drank from the welly (Credit: ITV)

    Drink from ‘the welly’

Like many other families, the Dingles have their traditions. One of their non-negotiable traditions is drinking from ‘the welly’.

This occurs whenever someone new is welcomed into the Dingle family. They are made to drink from a rubber Wellington boot, while the other family members cheer them on.

The details behind the odd tradition are not known, but every new Dingle has been made to drink from the welly since they arrived in the Dales. From Caleb to Tracy, they’ve all taken a sip from the welly.

    The Dingle Court interrogates Caleb
No one wants to face The Dingle Court (Credit: ITV)

    The Dingle Code

It’s often referred to as the ‘Dingle Code’ or ‘Dingle Rules’ in Emmerdale, but essentially the Dingles have a strict system they all follow. The rules are quite simple; you can lie, cheat, steal or worse, as long as it is not against another Dingle.

You must also never grass on another Dingle, especially not to the police. Should you break the Dingle Code, you’ll have to face the Dingle Court, or worse.

    The Dingle Court

The Dingle Court sees several members of the family come together to interrogate whichever Dingle has done something wrong. They may decide to banish or disown the member in question, but it is likely that they’ll eventually be forgiven and welcomed back into the fold.

Over the years many Dingles have had to face the court, including Caleb, Mandy, Vinny and Lydia. All have successfully been forgiven by the family, so the court isn’t quite as serious as it may initially seem.

  • What happened to Liv Flaherty as Vinny moves on with Gabby

What happened to Liv Flaherty as Vinny moves on with Gabby

Liv Flaherty’s romance with Vinny Dingle in Emmerdale wasn’t plain sailing in anyone’s books, but together they managed to overcome all the obstacles life had thrown in their way and settle down to marital bliss together.

Until Liv’s tragic death, that is.

Vinny’s tentatively beginning a relationship with maneater Gabby Thomas and that’s been tricky too, due to his history with Liv – who wasn’t just his wife, but also Gabby’s best friend.

So what was the story with Liv and Vinny, and what happened to tragic Liv?

Liv and Vinny’s romance in Emmerdale

Vinny and Liv had a lockdown romance! The cute couple hit it off playing together online, and when restrictions were lifted, they started dating for real.

    Vinny and his dad

When Paul Ashdale came to Emmerdale and revealed he was Vinny’s dad, it took a while for them to rebuild their relationship. Paul got back together with Vinny’s adoptive mum, Mandy Dingle, and things looked good.

But Paul was hiding his gambling addiction, and began abusing Vinny too.

On the morning of Mandy and Paul’s wedding, brave Liv confronted her boyfriend’s abuser – he went for her just as Jimmy King accidentally drove a truck into the wedding barn where they were. Liv forced a confession out of an injured Paul and walked away. Paul later died from his injuries.

The guilt of not getting Paul out ate away at Liv and she turned to alcohol to cope. It split her and Vinny up for a while, but they found their way back to each other eventually.

    Liv’s sexuality

Before she met Vinny, Liv had struggled with her feelings around sex and attraction. She eventually realised she was asexual and opened up to her family and friends. When she met Vinny, he was fully supportive and never pressurised her or questioned her. Which is why he’s exploring totally new territory in his relationship with Gabby!

Liv and Vinny in Emmerdale get married

After Liv was imprisoned for the murder of Ben Tucker, Aaron’s boyfriend, her family disowned her. But Vinny refused to tow the Dingle line and fought tooth and nail to get her freed.

Once the truth about Meena being the killer was revealed, Liv was out and she and Vinny resumed their romance. They decided to get married, but agreed to do so in secret so as not to involve their OTT family.

Mandy was heartbroken when she found out they had eloped and feeling bad, they agreed to a Dingle knees up to celebrate after all.

    Liv’s death

In October 2022, a storm raged through Emmerdale, bringing dangerously high winds to the village.

Liv was on her way to look after Eve while Chas had an illicit hook-up with Al Chapman, when a caravan came untethered in the winds. It trapped Liv against a wall and she suffered catastrophic injuries.

In heartbreaking scenes, paramedics told Liv there was nothing they could do to save her. Her lower body was crushed and the caravan was keeping her alive.  Aaron came to say goodbye and then Vinny spent his final, sad moments with his wife.

    Sob!

    Moving on

Now Vinny’s trying to build a relationship with Gabby, and we reckon he deserves a bit of happiness after all he’s been through.

    Can they make it work?

  • Emmerdale writers warned over Nicola and Bob as scenes show them growing closer

Emmerdale writers warned over Nicola and Bob as scenes show them growing closer

Fans of Emmerdale have warned its writers not to start a Bob Hope and Nicola King affair storyline – as scenes in last night’s episode appeared to show the pair growing closer.

This came as Nicola attempted to come to terms with the news that daughter Angel wouldn’t be getting an early release from the detention centre – after starting a fight with another young inmate.

Angel has been serving time there after pleading guilty to death by dangerous driving – being behind the wheel during the accident which killed Bob’s son, Heath.

And whose better shoulder to cry on than that of, uh, the dead boy’s father, Bob, right?

Miserable parents Jimmy and Nicola were left distraught at the news that their Angel appeared to be headed down a darker path, with Nicola in a noticably sullen mood (more sullen than usual, anyway) at work.

And it was here that she was consoled by Bob. A very magnanimous move, given that Angel was largely responsible for the death of his son.

And, as these scenes aired, fans of the soap warned its writers to not even bother setting the pair up for an affair.

Emmerdale fans warn soap against Bob and Nicola affair

As scenes between the pair aired, fans took to social media to share their thoughts.

“Bob and Nicola better not have an affair,” wrote one concerned viewer on X.

“I’m also thinking that they are going to try and push for a Nicola and Bob affair down the line, or one of them will misread the signals?” suggested another.

Is an affair between Bob and Nicola on the cards?

Meanwhile, the general impropriety of the situation was not lost on the viewership.

“Bob lost his son. Nicola’s daughter is paying the price. But Bob is a shoulder to cry on? Insane,” pointed out another viewer.

    https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

“How Nicola’s got the gall to be [expletive] with Bob!” exclaimed another outraged fan.

Will Nicola and Bob set aside their (pretty big) difference to find comfort in each other’s company? We certainly hope not.

Emmerdale writers offered thanks by fans over Mandy and Paddy wedding episode

Grateful fans of Emmerdale have thanked the soap’s writers for its joyful Mandy Dingle and Paddy Kirk wedding episode last night.

Viewers tuned in as Mandy and Paddy successfully tied the knot in spite of his dad Bear’s meddling – outing her as a financial dominatrix to a baffled Paddy.

Paddy and Mandy’s happily ever after was in doubt for a while… as it appeared as though Paddy had called the whole thing off.

Well, it wouldn’t be a Dingle wedding without a little drama on the day!

Mandy rushed over to see her husband-to-be, who was surprisingly accepting of her side-hustle. It was the lies which proved to be the sticking point.

Following a sweet heart-to-heart, the pair managed to work things out, and the wedding was back on!

After rushing back to the church and talking Charles around, the pair were married in a joyful (if super speedy) counterpoint to the misery and upset surrounding them.

Emmerdale fans praise ‘brilliant’ episode as Paddy and Mandy are married

As the soap shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the wedding, fans took to Instagram to share their appreciation for the episode. The consensus is in – and it’s good to see a bit of cheer for once.

“Brilliant episode, well done all about time we had a lighter episode,” wrote one overjoyed fan.

“Only Mandy Dingle could get away with that dress. Funny episode especially the vows well done all. The laugh that everyone needs right now in the cruel world we live in,” said another.

“Brilliant episode, so happy they are getting married. Love them both they are well suited,” a third fan shared.

“Love it, Mandy and Paddy together at last. They’re made for each other, nice to have a lighter note in the midst of the Belle and Tom storyline,” another viewer agreed.

“That was a brilliant episode, so funny and happy and the dress was amazing,” said a fourth.

A fifth agreed: “I like that it was sorted out by Mandy and Paddy simply having an adult conversation, well done writers.”

“The best episode, so great to have the humour back,” added a sixth.

Actor James Chase says Belle ‘needs justice’

James Chase, who portrays Tom in Emmerdale, has revealed that Belle and Tom’s storyline can’t end yet because there “needs to be more done”.

The actor revealed that he presumed Tom and Belle’s trip to Wales would spark the end of the story, but he teased there’s more to come for the estranged couple.

He continued to Digital Spy: “From this point, their relationship does change – for the better for her, of course. There’s still more to be told. I agree that obviously Tom needs to be found guilty for this and Belle needs some sort of justice.”

James added: “She can’t just break up with him and get away from him – there needs to be more done, because otherwise who’s to say he wouldn’t just do this to his next partner?”

In Emmerdale tonight, John continued to make enemies in the village. He headed to the garage to confront Cain about his van and quiz him about what happened. Having threatened to call the police, Cain was not impressed with John.

Mackenzie then attempted to apologise to John, but the pair did not settle their differences. Later, Mackenzie found John in the barn and attempted to hit him, as he thought he was stealing. However, John quickly defended himself.

Cain arrived and told Mackenzie that he’s offered John a job at the farm whilst he’s staying in the village. Mackenzie was not impressed, especially after Cain told him he would have to pay for the repairs to John’s van.

One person that was pleased to hear John is sticking around was Victoria. She was happy to know she’ll have more time to get know her half-brother. John was less enthused and insisted he will not be staying in the Dales for long. He later appeared unnerved when Victoria quizzed him about an army dog tag she’d found at home.

    Bear discovered Mandy’s findom work

Mandy was super excited about her hen do, but she had other things to do before she could begin partying. She reluctantly agreed to fit Bear in at the salon for a trim, despite being inundated with findom work.

Amelia offered to take the appointment instead of Mandy and she quickly agreed. Unaware her laptop was still connected to the karaoke speaker, Bear heard the majority of Mandy’s findom call. He was left stunned by what he heard and struggled to compose himself in front of Mandy.

Later on, Bear began looking into financial domination. He found himself in a super awkward situation as he began discussing findom with Marlon. Bear was left torn over whether to tell Paddy about Mandy’s findom work or not. It’s not exactly the most comfortable of conversations to have with your son, is it?
