This week’s Emmerdale saw multiple lives hanging in the balance in the aftermath of a devastating limousine crash which claimed three lives and left others seriously injured – including village doctor Liam Cavanagh. As the car crashed into an ice-covered lake, unlucky party planner Suzy was killed instantly – and colleague Leyla followed soon after.
The third died last night, as Amy succumbed to the shock of her extended dip in a frozen lake. The others emerged in one piece, but it was touch and go for a while, especially where Doctor Liam was concerned.

Liam and Chas to marry following ice crash
Sustaining a head injury in the crash, Liam took a turn for the worse once ashore, vomiting and then promptly passing out. In the hospital, doctors determined that his injuries had been worse than they looked, hence his nausea and state of confusion.
In last night’s episode, he reunited with Chas, who reminded him that he’d been busy popping the question when the limo crashed. United as survivors, the pair decided to follow through and become man and wife. Some happy news, amid a week of tragedy and heartbreak?
However, some viewers have wondered whether there might be more tragedy in store for Liam and Chas. Is his head injury even worse than previously feared?

Liam to die after leaving hospital, Emmerdale fans worry
Writing on social media as last night’s episode aired, fans shared their thoughts on Liam’s well-being. And many worried that the soap may have one further trick up their sleeve yet.
“I’m wondering if Liam will recover enough to leave hospital and something will happen to the lead up to or after the wedding. He’ll have an aneurysm or something,” wrote one fan.
“I don’t know why but I think Liam may still die, something tells me he’s not going to survive the limo crash either. My mum thinks he’s going to be brain dead soon,” said another.
“I think he’ll either die or won’t remember he’s in love with Chas,” predicted a third.
“Why do I feel like Liam is next? Someone has died every episode so far this week,” a fourth commented.

The fallout of the limo ice crash continued in Emmerdale tonight (Thursday, February 20) as Amy Barton died from the shock of her time under the ice-covered lake. Amy suffered a seizure in last night’s episode and, as the soap continued, she ultimately lost her battle for survival.
Elsewhere, as Noah recovered from the drugs in his system, Charity searched for answers. Back in the village, as Moira confronted Ruby, news of her betrayal with Cain began to spread like wildfire.
Meanwhile, beneath the surface of the lake, Nate’s body waited to be found.
Here’s everything that happened on Emmerdale tonight.

Amy died in Emmerdale tonight
Tonight’s episode began with a flashback of Amy under the water, staring out from beneath the ice. As she floated below the surface, she came face-to-face with the mystery body again. Nate, is that you?
In the hospital, doctors rushed to save Amy’s life, clearing Kerry and Matty out of the room. With Kyle on the way, the doctors informed them that they’d managed to stabilise Amy, although she wasn’t out of the woods just yet.
Cain and Kyle arrived with Amy still unconscious. His mum off having it out with Ruby, Matty was still fuming with Cain, leaving Kyle confused as to why there was such a frosty atmosphere between the two. Come on boys, we’re trying to bring the temperature up in here.
As Kyle begged his mum to pull through, she offered a tentative squeeze of the hand, giving fresh hope that she was on the mend. Sitting vigil while Kerry and Kyle went for a wander, Matty promised her that they’d start work on their family. It was then that Amy very briefly regained consciousness. The first words out of her mouth confirmed what we all suspected to be true: “Nate. In the water.” The last? “I love you.”
She then flatlined, and the limousine crash claimed its third life.

Charity searched for answers
Charity and Mack sat with Noah, who was still suffering the effects of the drugs in his system. Mack reassured a guilt-ridden Charity that the accident hadn’t been her fault… what was she supposed to do, run over her own son? It was then that Joe swung by for a visit.
Against her better judgement, Charity let him stick around and, as they attempted to make sense of the situation, Mack reminded them that Jacob had been arguing at Leyla earlier in the day – over her accusation that he’d been using coke. Charity headed off in search of answers.
Charity reunited with Sarah, who told her that Jacob wasn’t coping well with the loss. Sarah reassured her that neither Jacob nor Noah had been taking drugs. Learning that Noah had taken a pint intended for Belle, Charity realised that he must have been spiked.
She questioned Chas over Jacob’s new mate Rich. Between medical updates, Charity spilled the village’s hottest gossip – that Cain had slept with Ruby.
The doctor confirmed that Noah had been spiked. As he racked his brains trying to remember what had happened, he suffered visions of another hospital room – with Joe standing over him.

The news continued to spread in Emmerdale tonight
At the Milgan home, Moira continued to have it out with Ruby. She revealed that she knew the whole story about Anthony – what he’d done to her, and what she’d done to him.
That didn’t excuse her of anything, though, and Moira demanded to know how Ruby and Cain could put her through such massive betrayal while she’d been in hospital, fighting for her life.
Caleb arrived home with his takeaway, just as Aaron arrived for a visit. The pair swapped threats as Caleb issued a warning – don’t trust Cain. He then spilled Cain and Ruby’s dirty little secret.
Steph returned home to find her parents looking sheepish and Caleb’s hand bruised. Ruby revealed the news that she’d slept with Cain. She was fuming to discover that their marriage remained solid, and took the opportunity to explode at her mum again.

The family grieved
In spite of doctors’ best efforts, they were unable to resuscitate Amy, and a devastated Matty was forced to look on as she died before his eyes. Kerry and Kyle returned to grave faces and the heartbreaking news that Amy was gone. In one of the rooms, Cain broke the news to Kyle.
Back at home, Cain informed Moira that Suzy, Leyla and Amy had been killed. She blamed him for her not being there in Matty’s time of need – and reiterated that their marriage was over, save for the kids.

Jacob lashed out
In the Dingle home, Lydia received a visit from Eric. She’d summoned him to tell him about the car accident, breaking the news that Leyla had died. At the hospital, Pollard comforted a heartbroken Jacob.
(Badly-timed) words of comfort from Kerry weren’t of much use, and he lashed out, accusing the survivors of being more concerned with saving their own skin than Leyla’s. Ouch.
Jacob revealed his regret that Leyla died thinking he hated her, remembering his vitriolic last words. Playing her last message on his phone, Leyla’s final message to her son reverberated, providing some consolation.
Nate’s no closer to being found (Credit: ITV)
Nate’s watery grave
Feeling guilty about leaving Suzy behind, Vanessa was determined to return to the scene of the crash and be there when her body was recovered.
Back at the crash site, authorities excavated the limo
from the water. Vanessa and Tracy watched as divers searched the water for Suzy’s body.
Beneath the icy water, Nate’s body was finally revealed – wrapped in chains, duct tape and bin-liners. Now how’d you find yourself in a spot like that, Nate?
Chas popped the question (Credit: ITV)
Liam was on the mend in Emmerdale tonight
Chas eagerly nervously waited for news of Liam’s injury. He was conscious but groggy, having just awoken from a particularly vivid dream about S Club 7.
She reminded him that he’d proposed to her – and revealed that she would have said no, if the car hadn’t crashed.
Nothing like a life-and-death experience to change one’s mind though, as she’d changed her mind and was ready to become Mrs. Chastity Cavanagh.

Emmerdale shocked us all tonight (Thursday, February 20), as the soap killed another character off, airing Amy Barton’s death.
Amy had started to flatline yesterday but was saved (temporarily), managing to get a few important words out to Matty before passing away.
And, we’re devastated that Amy’s now gone, with this bringing yet another LGBTQ+ soap couple to an end.

Emmerdale: Amy Barton’s death
When the limo crashed into the frozen lake, Amy followed the path of some of her fellow passengers in a bid to get back onto steady ground.
But sadly, she fell into the ice and was submerged under the water. One of the last things she saw was a dead body under the water – that of Nate Robinson’s.
Being pulled out of the water by Tracy, Amy was rushed to hospital with hypothermia. Then, she started to have a seizure and flatline.
Fortunately, the doctors were able to save Amy just long enough for her to get out the words ‘Nate… in the water.’ But, Matty was too caught up in Amy’s life being on the line to understand what Amy was trying to say.
Then, heartbreakingly, Amy lost her life after reminding Matty that she loved him. Sob.
Amy had SO much more to give (Credit: ITV)
Opinion: Killing Amy off was a bad move
Amy arrived in the Dales in 2010 and has a very rich history behind her. She’s connected to so many characters and intertwined in so many different families. It’s only now that we realise that she really was the ‘glue’ of the village.
And, now Amy’s gone, the whole village will be impacted in an extremely tragic way. Not only will Matty and the Bartons be heartbroken, we’ve got Kerry who will be in tears, and also Pollard who was once Amy’s foster parent.
Whilst this could make way for many different interesting storylines as a consequence of the grief villagers will face, we’re disappointed that another young woman with so much potential has had her life robbed of her. First Suzy, then Leyla, now Amy…
It was only recently that Amy and Matty talked about wanting to adopt a child. Matty had his concerns, fearing how being a trans parent may affect his child. But, he then came round to the idea.
Now, Amy’s hopes and dreams of expanding her family have been crushed, along with the hope of the soap telling an important storyline which would have been so meaningful for the LGBTQ+ community. And, let’s also note how Amy and Matty only got married in April last year…
They hadn’t even been married a year (Credit: ITV)
Another LGBTQ+ couple bites the dust
We haven’t been given the chance to watch their marriage play out properly, what with Matty spending time in prison shortly after they got hitched. It’s only more recently this year that we’ve started to see what married life looks like for Amy and Matty and how they’ve been there for each other through thick and thin. They deserved more of a chance than they had.
This all adds up to a worrying pattern in soap, with shows having a habit of destroying or killing off LGBTQ+ couples.
In one week alone, we’ve said goodbye to Suzy and Amy. This brought to an end two LGBTQ+ romances in Emmerdale village and along with it much-needed representation on screen. It would be nice to see an LGBTQ+ couple go the distance in Emmerdale – and whilst we got close with Robron and Vanity – we didn’t get close enough. And, we have our doubts about Aaron and John…
Now that’s all been said, perhaps Amy could… come back from the dead? Please?

Leyla Harding passed away in last night’s episode of Emmerdale (Wednesday, February 19), and fans aren’t okay about her death.
The much-loved character passed away in an ambulance (all alone) on the way to the hospital following the limo crash.
And, fans aren’t happy with the soap’s decision to kill Leyla off (and we’re not impressed either!) Now, Roxy Shahidi has addressed her exit in a new interview.

Emmerdale: Leyla Harding’s death
Leyla thought that the girls’ night out in the limo was going to be the perfect chance to kill her loneliness. But, it ended up killing her instead.
The poor wedding planner ended up being a passenger in a limo crash, as Charity swerved Noah in the road and ended up crashing the vehicle into a frozen lake.
Leyla did her best to hide her injury from everyone else. But, Kerry realised something was up when Leyla failed to move. Kerry then dragged her on the ice and to ‘safety’ but Leyla’s stomach was badly injured and impaled by some glass…
Losing blood, Leyla died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Jacob found the news out on shift in A&E. Running into a morgue (without permission – okay), Jacob then saw his dead mum lying perfectly still.
He then tried to give her CPR but, of course, his efforts were in vain because Leyla was well and truly dead. Heartbreaking.
Fans don’t think Leyla deserved to die (Credit: ITV)
Fans devastated over Leyla’s death as she ‘deserved better’
With Leyla being killed off after almost 17 years on the soap, fans have been left devastated over her exit.
They think that she deserved better than to die in the limo crash, being such a huge part of the show over the years. And, we can see why they’re upset. We didn’t even get to see her die on screen… and for such a huge character, we reckon she should’ve at least been given a death in the Thursday hour-long episode where all the big events usually happen.
And to have her so lonely and having to witness her ex-husband propose to another woman just moments before her death was just cruel!
One fan complained: “RIP Leyla Harding you deserved so much better than the utter [bleep] exit you got x”
Another person shared: “Killing off Leyla is the worst thing these [bleep] could have done! Why not send her to Portugal to live with her sister? She deserved better.”
A third fan commented: “OMG…….. Emmerdale has got me tearing up! The way they killed Leyla off, and her storyline beforehand? Ohhhh they did her character so dirty! Poor Jacob.”

Roxy Shahidi opens up on Leyla death
Actress Roxy Shahidi has now spoken out on her Emmerdale exit on today’s episode of Loose Women (Thursday, February 20).
She has revealed that the decision to kill off Leyla came as a ‘shock’ but she’s now embraced the opportunity.
“I genuinely am so excited about a new chapter. That’s what life’s about, isn’t it? You’ve got to do new things, you’ve got to challenge yourself. And, sometimes, when you’re forced to do that, it’s the best thing that can happen otherwise you’ll just stay within your comfort zone.”
She then revealed that she was ‘heartbroken’ over leaving her ‘second family’ at Emmerdale behind.
“To have been in a show like that for 16 years is such a blessing, it’s something you can’t take for granted. We’re always aware each year, most of us are on yearly contracts so you never know.
“To have done 16 years, I am so grateful, but when I got that call because I kind of knew something was happening… it was a shock.
“When it’s such an epic story, you know it’s going to happen and I think your job is just to process that, do the best you can, and just keep going.”

Fans of Emmerdale have predicted that Chas Dingle could be about to develop a painkiller addiction in the aftermath of this week’s limo crash. As one of the survivors, Chas had it relatively lucky, emerging unscathed from an accident which has already claimed two lives.
As the survivors were rushed to hospital, the fallout continued – Liam’s got serious head injuries, Amy’s battling for her life, and Suzy and Leyla are dead. However, Chas clearly has issues of her own – left with severe back pain after taking a tumble as she attempted to exit the limo.
As she talked to Charity last night (Wednesday, February 19) Chas showed clear signs of pain, wincing in agony as they talked. But what’s really wrong with Chas?

Chas in pain following limo crash
Is Chas’s pain really related to the crash and her subsequent fall? Some have wondered whether there might be more amiss with Chas – with some viewers even suggesting that her cancer might have returned, or spread.
Others meanwhile, have predicted that Chas might have a very different kind of struggle ahead – a battle with painkiller addiction.

Chas to battle painkiller addiction, Emmerdale fans predict
Writing on social media as the episode aired, fans shared their thoughts on Chas’s injuries. And some wondered if she might now be headed down a very dark path.
“I actually wouldn’t be surprised if she does develop a dependency on painkillers because of how accessible they are,” wrote one fan.
“Chas potentially still has cancer and it’s spread to her spine (this is the second time in a week she’s complained about her back). Either that, or they’re going to give her a prescription addiction,” said another.
“A pain killer addiction for Chas?” asked a third.
“Though Chas has never been an addict re: drugs or pills. Possibly the after effects of that (fictitious) horrendous crash in the lake. Hope it’s nothing serious,” another suggested.
If fans are right, then Joe’s painkiller support group might be about to gain an extra member.

Fans of Emmerdale have predicted that Charity Dingle‘s PTSD will return following the tragic deaths of Leyla and Suzy. Charity was at the wheel when the limousine crashed into an ice covered lake last week – having swerved to avoid son Noah, who was wandering deliriously in the road.
As the car smashed into the frozen lake, Suzy was killed instantly – sustaining life-ending injuries. The soap later revealed that Leyla had also been injured in the crash. As those around her climbed to safety, poor Leyla was bleeding out – having been stabbed with something sharp when the car diverted from course.
She passed out as it was just her and Kerry remaining. Although Kerry managed to drag her to shore, by then it was too late – and Leyla died in the ambulance, on the way to hospital.

Two dead as Charity crashes limo
And that’s not to mention Amy – whose life still hangs in the balance as she suffered a massive seizure last night. One can only imagine how poor Charity must be feeling, driving the car when two people were killed.
Some have wondered whether this might cause her PTSD to resurface. Last year, Charity struggled with her mental health after killing gangster Harry, suffering a bout of PTSD which led her to stab husband Mack in all the confusion.
Charity since recovered – but will the trauma of the limo crash cause it to return?

Charity PTSD to resurface following ice limo crash
Writing on social media, fans shared their thoughts on Charity’s future. And many agreed that tis might cause her PTSD to return.
“As much as I don’t want another death on Charity’s conscience, I think it could be a way of revisiting her ptsd storyline which they seemed to have completely forgotten about and I for one, am absolutely fine with them revisiting. Raise awareness and that,” wrote one fan.
“Just had a thought. I think something might happen again with Charity’s mental health,” said another.
“No cause charity is going to be such a mess after all this isn’t she,” said a third.
“Amid all the tragedy, I keep coming back to – poor Charity. What will this do to her?” asked another.
What will the guilt of the limo crash do to Charity?

Fans of Emmerdale have worried that Chas Dingle‘s cancer could have returned as they spotted a ‘worrying sign’ in last night’s episode of the soap. This came in the aftermath of the ice lake crash, in which Chas was injured as she fell on the ice.
Later, in the hospital, she appeared to struggle with pain – clutching her back as Charity found her there in the corridor. She’d just had a bad fall, of course, but some have wondered whether it might be a symptom of something worse.

Cancer has returned for Chas, Emmerdale fans feared
Writing on social media as last night’s episode aired, fans shared their thoughts on Chas’s fresh pain. And some wondered whether there might be more to worry about than impact from the crash.
“Chas potentially still has cancer and it’s spread to her spine (this is the second time in a week she’s complained about her back),” worried one fan.
“Either she’s more badly injured from the crash than she’s letting on, or it’s something more sinister, possibly linked to her cancer….” said another.
“Chas suffering back pain from the fall onto the ice. A few months back she was advised to have chemotherapy as a precaution follwing her double mastectomy operation and chose not to. I hope this is not the start of another cancer story for her,” a third fretted.

Emmerdale has aired some more worrying scenes as the lives of Amy and Liam look to be in danger following the limo crash – but will they die?
Stand-in driver Charity drove the limo onto a frozen lake after she swerved the car to avoid hitting Noah, who had staggered into the road.
Suzy was declared dead immediately, while the other ladies – and Liam – slowly left the vehicle one by one. Yesterday’s episode saw ambulances arrive on the scene, but is it too late?
Chas feared for Liam (Credit: ITV)
What happened to Liam in Emmerdale tonight?
The ambulances containing the victims arrived at the hospital, where chaos ensued as hospital staff rushed to help those most in need.
While it was soon revealed that Leyla had been the one who had died on route to the hospital, things didn’t look good for some of the others.
Chas was informed that Liam Cavanagh had to go for a scan because his suspected head injury was worse than it looked. As the doctor explained that his injury explained the changes in Liam’s behaviour and speech, Chas remained firm that Liam would be OK.
Chas later told Charity what was going on with Liam, before saying: “Don’t ‘oh babe’ me OK? Because he’s going to be fine. And I’m going to get to give him my answer OK? I am. Because I’m gonna tell him that I do want to marry him.” But will she get her wish?
There have been no reports that actor Jonny McPherson is leaving Emmerdale, and fans hope he is staying put. Many took to social media to express their hope that Liam pulls through. “If Liam is killed off I will stop watching,” said one viewer. Another wrote: “I really want to see him and Chas getting married,” while a third said: “Please don’t let Liam die! Chas deserves a happy ever after!”
Kerry sat by her daughter’s hospital bedside (Credit: ITV)
Do Amy and Liam die in Emmerdale?
Kerry was informed that her daughter Amy Barton had severe hypothermia from being submerged under water for so long. Although Amy was wrapped up, the doctor told Kerry that they couldn’t turn the heat up more as it would put too much stress on her body.
It was just a matter of waiting. Meanwhile, Amy’s husband Matty was in the pub with Mack discussing the revelation that Cain cheated on Moira with Ruby. However, phone calls quickly summoned them both to the hospital.
At Amy’s hospital bedside, there were some emotional moments. Matty told an unconscious Amy: “We need you to hurry up and come back to us, all right? And Kyle. We all need you so much. I’m gonna put my foot down over this one.”
As the episode came to a close, the machines by her bed started to flatline, while Amy started shaking. Doctors rushed in, but will she be saved?
As with Jonny McPherson, there have also been no rumours of a departure for Natalie Ann Jamieson. Like with Liam, fans are also hoping Amy pulls through.
“Please be okay, Amy,” wrote one fan on X, while another said: “Hoping Amy survives please.” A third fan theorised that Amy has to be OK as that’s the only way the others will discover there is another body in the water.Â

Here’s what happened in Emmerdale tonight, Wednesday February 19.
Leyla was pronounced dead (Credit: ITV)
Jacob was heartbroken over mum’s death
The hospital was chaotic as the victims of the crash were brought in. Jacob, who was on duty at the time, was initially unaware that his mum was one of those involved in the accident.
But he soon run into Charity, who was checking on Noah. Charity told him what had happened, with Jacob rushing off in search of Leyla.
He then came across Kerry and Amy, before finding Chas and Liam. With each meeting, it became clear that Leyla was the person the paramedic had described as “dead on arrival”.
Jacob soon found a doctor standing over his mum’s body. He shouted, “Mum can you hear me? She’s still warm. Why are you just stood there? You should be trying to save her.â€
In emotional scenes, Jacob broke down as he told the doctor: “You don’t know how tough she is. She wouldn’t leave me. She wouldn’t leave her son. You’re not going, I’m not letting you.â€
The doctor told Jacob that Leyla was gone, but he tried to resuscitate her anyway. “You’re supposed to save people, right? Help me bring her back,†he cried.
Later, seemingly accepting that Leyla had gone, Jacob sat with his mum as he told her he was sorry that she had to die alone. “You’re too much of the life and soul to ever be on your own. I hope you know that,” he told her. Sarah soon arrived to comfort Jacob, as he broke down once again. Our hearts, sob!

Amy’s life in danger in Emmerdale tonight
Despite having a suspected broken foot, Kerry insisted on being with her daughter.
Kerry was told that her daughter Amy Barton had severe hypothermia from being submerged under water for so long. Kerry asked if they could turn the heat up, but was informed by the doctor that they had to warm her up gradually otherwise it would put too much stress on her body.
Later, Amy’s husband Matty arrived at the hospital and joined Kerry at Amy’s side where they were eager for Amy to wake up.
There were more emotional moments as Matty told an unconscious Amy: “We need you to hurry up and come back to us, all right? And Kyle. We all need you so much. I’m gonna put my foot down over this one.”
But there were scary scenes at the end of the episodes, when the machines started to flatline and Amy’s body started to shake. Doctors rushed in, as a flashback showed Amy in the water with the mystery body again.
Chas was hopeful about Liam (Credit: ITV)
Chas wants to marry Liam
Liam Cavanagh was disorientated following the crash and tonight Chas was told that he had to go for a scan because his suspected head injury was worse than it looked.
The doctor said that Liam’s injury explained the changes in his behaviour and speech. Chas said it sounded bad, with the doctor confirming that it could be.
She was adamant he’d pull through though and told the doctor: “He’s a doctor by the way, so you can be straight with him. You know, when he comes round, which he will do.â€
Later, Chas reiterated her belief that Liam would be OK to Charity, telling her: “Don’t ‘oh babe’ me OK? Because he’s going to be fine. And I’m going to get to give him my answer OK? I am. Because I’m gonna tell him that I do want to marry him.”
Oh we do hope so, we want a Liam and Chas wedding.
Charity was in shock (Credit: ITV)
Charity felt guilty in Emmerdale tonight
After checking in on Noah, the realisation of what had happened hit Charity.
When Mack arrived at the hospital, she asked him: “What is the matter with me Mack? Why do I keep killing people?” We have to admit, she does have quite the track record.
She later echoed these thoughts to Chas. “I was driving. Two people are dead because of me!” Will Charity face any punishment?
Cain told Moira everything (Credit: ITV)
Cain told Moira the truth
After Caleb outed Cain for sleeping with Ruby, Cain knew he had to tell Moira before someone else did.
As he told her what happened, Moira made him repeat some of the details – such as the fact that she had been having an operation at the time. We don’t think there is any coming back from this for Cain.
Cain apologised for being “spinelessâ€and told his wife: “I knew straightaway it was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made.†And he’s made a lot of those…
In order to stop Moira from storming round to see Ruby, Cain ended up telling Moira all about Anthony’s death and the subsequent cover-up.
It didn’t fend her off though as she rocked up at Ruby’s house anyway, where she said a classic line: “Sorry, Ruby, I’m not your husband. Then again, neither is Cain.â€Â
Vanessa struggled over Suzy’s death (Credit: ITV)
Elsewhere in Emmerdale tonight
Vanessa got emotional as she started to grieve for Suzy, who was the first casualty of the limo crash.
“Been sat here trying to remember the last thing I said to Suzy. Why can’t I remember? I didn’t know that all the stuff we did was for the last time,” she told Tracy, before saying: “I don’t know what I’m gonna do without her.”

And, now the sad moment has finally arrived… We’re not sure we’re ever going to recover from seeing Leyla lying in that morgue. It’s a scene that we believe should never have happened…

Emmerdale: Leyla Harding’s tragic death
Leyla was feeling really lonely in her final days and joined the girls of the Dales for a night out. She might’ve not got them to take her up on her lunch offer, but she sure wasn’t going to miss out on the chance to party.
In the limo, one of the last things that Leyla saw was her ex-husband Liam proposing to another woman – Chas, and almost sitting on her lap whilst doing so. Brutal. And, then if that situation alone wasn’t enough to finish her off, crash! Charity swerved the limo and crashed it into a huge, frozen lake.
Leyla’s business partner Suzy died instantly, with the rest of the passengers taking it in turns one by one to cross the ice.
Eventually, only Kerry and Leyla remained left in the sinking limo but Leyla was in a bad way after being impaled in the stomach from some glass. (At least she didn’t die with an empty stomach.)
Kerry was desperate to not leave Leyla alone though (if only everyone else had been so kind in the lead-up to the crash), and dragged her across the ice despite her most likely broken leg.
Four ambulances then arrived and took Leyla, Liam, Amy and Noah off. But, someone had died inside one of them on the way to the hospital.
And tonight, Jacob realised that this person was Leyla as he burst into the morgue whilst on shift in A&E and saw his mum lying dead.

Opinion: Leyla being killed off is a HUGE mistake
Leyla Harding first arrived in the Dales in 2008 and became a huge fan-favourite very quickly.
Leaving in 2011, Leyla then returned in 2013 and made a huge entrance as Alicia’s jaw dropped finding out that her sister was now a pole dancer (a moment we still remember well.)
Then, a huge storyline saw it be revealed that Leyla was actually Jacob’s mum and not Alicia… Despite this huge bombshell, we loved the dynamic of David, Leyla, Alicia and Jacob as a family. But, now all we have are these fond memories, with only Jacob Gallagher remaining from this group.
Leyla’s always been, as Jacob says, the ‘life and soul’ of the party and of the village too. In the 17 years of Leyla, she’s brought us fun, love, laughter, tears and drama.
Whilst she’s been a little quiet recently, she’s always close to our hearts (and we’re definitely always jealous of her impeccable bright and colourful wardrobe – she knows how to own a power suit does our Leyla!)
Having that ‘life and soul’ die in such a tragic and upsetting way leaves us heartbroken. Someone so young, with so much life left to life being robbed of it within a few short hours. It’s almost… unforgivable. And, we think this is a huge mistake!

An exit storyline that broke our hearts
Leyla was ‘getting in that limo if it killed her’ and she wasn’t lying (sadly.) And now, her business Take A Vow is truly dead in the water (excuse the pun), with only Belle remaining to keep things afloat.
But, we can’t help but be emotional over the permanent end to Leyla’s character with no hope of a return further down the line. Leyla’s loneliness storyline seemed slightly out of character and we’re devastated she died with nobody by her side in that ambulance.
We would’ve loved to imagine her exiting the village and living it up with Alicia in the sun. But, instead the curse of young soap women meeting their maker strikes again… All chances of a hopeful future robbed.
There’s going to be a huge Leyla shaped hole in the village now. And, now we’re just hoping that she gets the big send-off she deserves.
