As Dawn betrays Billy with Joe Tate, is any couple safe from the cheating curse?

Last night’s episode of Emmerdale saw Dawn betray husband Billy by kissing Joe Tate. This came after a busy day for Dawn, who had drugged Kim Tate with ketamine in the hope of making her confess to Will’s murder.

However, Dawn’s plan didn’t work out as planned, and Kim remained steadfast in her innocence. She then suffered a seizure from the overdose, and a panicked Joe called an ambulance.

Thankfully, Kim seemed to make a full recovery, and the pair buried the hatchet in the hospital. Back at Home Farm, Dawn and Joe shared a moment on the sofa – and then a kiss.

With another affair seemingly set to rock the dales, we ask… is any couple safe?

Is any couple safe as Dawn and Joe kiss destroys another Emmerdale couple

Dawn’s betrayal of Billy comes only months after Cain and Ruby appalled a nation by sleeping together. Fans were left horrified by scenes in which Cain cheated on Moira while she lay in hospital.

Neither Moira nor Caleb are aware of Cain and Ruby’s betrayal yet, but it’s surely only a matter of time. Elsewhere, Doctor Liam picked Chas over Ella – only days after rekindling their romance – and Rhona felt betrayed when she learned that Laurel had attempted to kiss Marlon.

Other couples are still going strong – Paddy and Mandy, and Charity and Mack, for example, but given their histories, can we trust history not to repeat? Especially with fans clamouring for Ross and Charity to become a thing.

There’s always the newly loved-up John and Aaron… but with viewers holding out for a Robron reunion, we wouldn’t necessarily expect that one to last either.

Sam and Lydia, then… it’s all on you two.

Emmerdale viewers share dismay at ‘repetitive’ cheating storylines

Writing on X as the scenes aired, viewers shared their thoughts on Joe and Dawn‘s kiss. And many have had enough of it all.

“Meanwhile over in Emmerdale, we have another scandal! All this soap does is make people cheat,” wrote one viewer.

“And we have more cheating in Emmerdale,” said another.

“Here we go with the joe Dawn affair then,” sighed a third.

    Is enough enough?

  • Joe and Dawn kiss and Emmerdale viewers slam ‘predictable’ plot

Joe and Dawn kiss and Emmerdale viewers slam ‘predictable’ plot

Lat night’s episode of Emmerdale saw Dawn Fletcher and Joe Tate finally give in to inevitability with a kiss. This not-so-shocking turn of events came after Dawn drugged his mum with ketamine in the hope of inducing a confession from Kim.

Convinced that Kim was behind Will’s death, Dawn spiked her morning cup of coffee and demanded answers. However, even under the influence – and seeing visions of dead hubby Will – Kim stuck to her story.

It was then that Joe walked in, finding Kim in a state and Dawn acting suspiciously.

Joe rushed Kim to hospital, where she made a quick recovery – and both covered for Dawn. Having apparently accepted Kim’s innocence, Dawn made her peace and agreed to let the whole murder accusation thing go.

Back at home (farm), Joe and Dawn shared a moment on the sofa… and then a kiss. Dawn pulled back and Joe assured her that it was okay, but it’s clear that there’s unfinished business between the pair.

Emmerdale fans despair at Joe and Dawn kiss

Reacting to the kiss on social media, fans shared their thoughts on Joe and Dawn. And nobody was surprised.

“Could’ve seen Dawn kissing Joe from 20 miles off,” wrote one dismayed fan.

“Dawn /Joe so predictable. Come on team you’re better than this,” said another.

“Dawn kissing joe was so obvious to happen,” a third wrote.

“So predictable they were going to kiss,” said a fourth.

Their hook-up may have been on the cards from the start, but where this relationship is headed is anyone’s guess.

  • Did Joe actually kill Will? Fan theory predicts he did as he successfully ‘isolates’ Kim

Did Joe actually kill Will? Fan theory predicts he did as he successfully ‘isolates’ Kim

He has only been back for two weeks but Joe Tate is already causing chaos for Emmerdale fans.

On Christmas Eve it was revealed that Joe was the mastermind behind Kim Tate’s takedown, before he made his highly anticipated return to Home Farm on Christmas Day.

But the timing of it wasn’t great, as not long after Joe arrived, Will took a massive heart attack and died. While Kim stood watching without calling for help.

Fan theory suggests Joe killed Will (Credit: ITV)

    Joe Tate Emmerdale return

Dawn was quick to accuse Joe of murdering her dad, but when the autopsy results confirmed it was natural causes, she quickly changed her mind.

However, her attention turned to Kim after she found a video from Will informing her that Kim would try to kill him.

So now that the attention is fully away from Joe, fans can’t help but wonder if his timing wasn’t as coincidental as it initially seemed.

Joe has proved time and time again that he truly is capable of anything. And since there seems to be an unknown ulterior motive behind his return, could Will’s death have been a part of that?

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) many fans shared the view that Joe Tate in Emmerdale had more to do with Will’s death than we know.

After Kim’s arrest in last night’s episode (January 7) one fan wrote: “Kim is INNOCENT. Joe… maybe not.”

Another noticed that Joe seemed to be solely focussing on ensuring Kim was on his side. They penned: “Joe is very successfully isolating Kim.”

If Joe manages to make Kim believe he is the only one she can trust, perhaps he is making sure his murderous secret is kept quiet.

Joe and Kim Emmerdale at Will's funeral
Joe has made sure Kim trusts him (Credit: ITV)

    Did Joe kill Will?

Others pointed out that Joe is a very well connected man. So it would have been very easy for him to get the coroner to lie. Or it could have been an entirely false phone call.

A fan commented: “Is it not possible for Joe to have paid off the coroner?” Another responded directly to this. They wrote: “I don’t believe there was even a coroner to pay off.”

On the chance that Joe was actually responsible for Will’s death, what would be the reason? And would he have had the opportunity? Well, Will was the only person who could prove to Kim that Joe was not trying to help her…

And after spending so much time as the head of Home Farm, Joe knows how to get in and out without being caught. So maybe he arrived earlier and spiked Will’s drink?

Despite the numerous theories that Will is still alive, we think it’s pretty obvious that isn’t the case.

But whether or not Joe did have anything to do with Will’s death, he is still hiding a secret. And it seems to be related to his health. So we can’t wait to see exactly what Joe has planned for 2025.

  • Joe came back to Emmerdale to die, new fan theory predicts

Joe came back to Emmerdale to die, new fan theory predicts

Joe Tate made a surprise return to Emmerdale on Christmas Eve, but fans suspect there is a sad reason for why he came back.

Joe left the Dales in 2018 and he was presumed dead. He was later revealed to be alive and living abroad.

Last year he was unmasked as being the mystery man working with Kim Tate‘s financial advisor in a bid to bring her down. But fans believe he has really returned home to die.

    Joe Tate in Emmerdale

Joe is the son of Chris Tate and Rachel Hughes, and the half brother of Noah Dingle. His parents died when he was young, making his aunt Zoe Tate his legal guardian. Zoe, Joe and Zoe’s daughter Jean left the village in 2005.

He then returned as an adult 12 years later. At first he used a false name and started a relationship with Debbie Dingle as part of his revenge plan against Charity Dingle. Joe blamed Charity for driving his dad to suicide.

In 2018, it appeared as if Joe Tate had died after being punched by Cain Dingle and hitting his head. Graham put Joe into the boot of his car and later told Kim that Joe had been taken care of.

However, viewers saw Joe’s hand twitch. It was later revealed that Joe was not dead and was in fact living abroad off of Kim’s money.

Six years on, Joe has returned yet again. Still played by Ned Porteous, Joe made his big entrance on Christmas Eve. It was revealed that Joe was actually the one pulling the strings behind Will and Peter’s plans to bring down Kim.

Joe informed Kim that Will had been plotting behind her back. He also claimed that he and Peter had simply gone along with it as a joke to see how far Will would go.

After lying for Kim to the police about Will’s death, Joe appears to have his feet under the table at Home Farm. But fans are convinced there is more to his return after he was shown in pain, struggling to breathe and taking medication.

    Joe Tate death fan theory

Fans took to social media to speculate about why Joe needs the medication. Joe also caused concern in Monday’s episode when he asked for painkillers for a really bad headache.

One fan wrote on Instagram: “I’m beginning to wonder if Joe came back to Emmerdale to die?!?!? A headache is never just a headache on a soap.”

A second fan said: “I think Joe got what Chris had.” Joe’s dad Chris was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour and he later took his own life. A third fan replied to the comment, writing: “I bet if Joe’s got a brain tumour like Chris, he will be terminal like Chris. He kills himself like Chris did, to frame Kim for his ‘murder’ for revenge like Chris did with Charity.”

Over on X, another fan asked: “What IS wrong with Joe? I’m worrying if it’s caused by the head injury he sustained when he left, or if it’s a family thing with his heart?”

  • 4 convincing theories looking at what’s wrong with Joe Tate on Emmerdale – Transplant to brain tumour like his dad

4 convincing theories looking at what’s wrong with Joe Tate on Emmerdale – Transplant to brain tumour like his dad

Something is clearly wrong with Joe Tate in Emmerdale as he’s been seen popping pills after struggling, but what is it?

He’s come back to the village a new man, same face but different personality it seems. He’s actually being nice to Kim, which is somewhat concerning…

But, has he really gained some morals? Perhaps ill health has made him see the light at long last. As we ponder that possibility, here are four huge theories as to what could be up with Joe.

    Joe's promo pic
Is he looking for a donor? (Credit: ITV)

    1. Transplant

Joe doesn’t look to be very well, clearly taken some sort of medication for a reason. One theory is that he’s got an illness like leukaemia and has returned to the village in the hope of finding a transplant donor.

Noting that Joe has recently been in touch with Jamie, one fan reckoned that Jamie wasn’t a match so now he’s working his way round the family in the hopes of finding someone to save him.

One fan wrote: “Joe suddenly getting in touch with Jamie was to get him tested and obviously he wasn’t a match. Jamie left Emmerdale before Caleb came and Jamie talks to no one in the village but Joe knew of Caleb’s existence. He mentioned him to Charity. He has done his research. Caleb (and Noah) could be a potential match.

“I think it’ll be Caleb (not Noah).”

Another fan added: “That’s my guess – leukaemia, he’s had some chemotherapy, but now needs a bone marrow transplant. So he’s looking for a close relative who could be a match.”

Emmerdale Joe Tate 2. Brain Tumour

Another theory is that Joe could have a brain tumour and actually be dying. He might therefore be back in the village to make amends with Kim before he passes.

This would mean that Joe would have the same illness that his father Chris Tate had.

Before his original exit, one fan reckoned that Joe could have a brain tumour.

“Joe Tate is so delusional, wonder whether he’s got a brain tumour like his dad Chris had?”

If he kept this a secret all this time but his condition had gotten progressively worse, has he felt forced back into the village now that he’s received a worrying prognosis perhaps?

    Emmerdale's Joe serious
Is he hiding something troubling? (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale Joe Tate 3. Heart defect

We all know that Frank Tate died of a heart attack. It is possible that Joe also has a problem with his heart, which would make sense as to why he recognised the signs of Will’s heart attack.

He was also seen taking medication in some obvious pain, which could be linked to the heart. This may be why Joe felt the need to help Will, as he also runs the risk of having a heart attack himself due to a defect. Unless, something else is wrong with Joe?…

    Joe serious
Has Joe been driven to addiction? (Credit: ITV)

    4. Addiction

Perhaps, when Joe was seen taking medication it was actually down to an addiction he’s developed. Before Joe left the Dales previously, he’d suffered a right attack by Cain which was so bad that Cain had presumed that he’d died.

Could he now be taking medication to manage that initial pain from his run-in with Cain all those years ago?

Just what is wrong with Joe?

Dawn and Joe could be set to have an affair as Emmerdale fans say ‘it makes sense’

They might be arguing now, but Emmerdale fans are sure Dawn Fletcher and Joe Tate’s hate will soon turn to passion!

Joe returned on Christmas Day and witnessed the death of Dawn’s dad Will Taylor. Dawn is convinced Joe, who was plotting with Will against Kim,was responsible for killing her father.

Joe has maintained his innocence and is trying to prove he’s just there to support his family. But does he have his eye on Dawn too?

    Joe Tate’s return

In amongst the chaos of Christmas Day in Emmerdale, Joe made a shock return to the village. He made a comeback as part of his scheme to take Kim Tate down, after she attempted to have him killed six years ago.

Following Joe’s arrival at Home Farm, he exposed Will’s involvement in the revenge plot. This led to a row between Kim and Will, who begged for her forgiveness having changed his mind on the plan.

Will then suffered a heart attack, leading to him later being pronounced dead. Following this, Dawn and Billy have grown suspicious of Joe, with the couple wondering if he was involved in Will’s death somehow.

Could Dawn and Joe be set to embark on an affair? (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale fans predict an affair is on the cards

Despite Dawn’s hostility towards Joe in Emmerdale, fans have predicted the two could embark on an affair behind Billy’s back.

Taking to social media, soap fans predicted things are going to take a turn for Dawn and Joe. One person said: “How long before Dawn and Joe are having an affair?” while a second agreed, commenting: “I give it a couple of episodes before Joe and Dawn…?”

“I can see Joe pursuing Dawn at some point… It just makes sense which makes me worry for Billy,” reasoned a third. A fourth speculated: “I sorta need Joe to have affair with Dawn and Gabby.”

However, some think Dawn could be the one to take Joe down. A fan commented on social media: “If she takes down Joe Tate she will become my most disliked character.”

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Police found the contraceptive pill in April’s room, and Dawn accused Joe of killing Will

Marlon started to fear the worst as he took his frustrations out on the police in Emmerdale tonight as they found some worrying evidence.

Elsewhere, Dawn shared her suspicions over Joe with Kim – but, did he kill Will?

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight on Monday, December 30.

Police found contraceptive pills in April’s bedroom

Marlon was still feeling sick to his stomach tonight as he sat down with the police as the search for missing April continued.

He relived the argument he’d had with April the day before she went missing, also filling the police in on her finding out how Donna really died.

Police then asked if they could search April’s room, making a rather shocking discovery as they returned with contraceptive pills they’d found. Although, Marlon made things difficult by lashing out at them for not doing enough to bring his daughter home (a bit harsh!)

Marlon then started wondering if April had been secretly seeing a boy, worrying that they’d forced her to take the pills and leave her home.

Police then took April’s electronic devices, hoping that they’d find some sort of name that could help lead them to April.

The episode ended with Marlon looking all sad out of a window, as if April would just magically appear before his very eyes.

Dawn suspected the worst from Joe in Emmerdale tonight

Dawn’s a fast learner as she’s already figured out that trouble always follows Joe Tate. So, when he suddenly reappeared and turned up at Home Farm just moments before Will’s heart attack, she deciphered that it couldn’t have been a coincidence.

Speaking to Kim, Dawn asked her if she could help her with her dad’s funeral plans. Kim though suggested that Dawn should take some time to grieve first.

Dawn then shared her concerns that Joe might’ve had something to do with Will’s death, but Kim pointed out that Joe didn’t even know Will (covering her tracks and all that.)

Not buying it, Dawn then threatened that the truth would come out at the post mortem.

    Anthony was suspicious of Cain

Anthony didn’t get a good vibe from Cain today (but, maybe it was just that his green smoothie didn’t agree with him.) He even made his discomfort known to Charity, noting that Cain was rather rude to him.

Charity and Ruby both told Anthony that he shouldn’t be worried. That was just typical Cain (Anthony has A LOT to learn there.)

But, little did he know was that Ruby was actually trying to stop him from learning the truth about her moment of passion with her husband’s brother. Talk about messy.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight

Jacob arranged a date with Sarah but ended up leaving her sitting all alone in the pub whilst he headed out for lunch with his mum. Nice.

Leyla then tried to warn Jacob off dating so that he could focus on his final year of studies before becoming a doctor. But, when love’s at play, it’s never that easy to stay away…

  • Review of the week: Joe’s back! Will’s dead! And Ruby’s tugging our heartstrings

Review of the week: Joe’s back! Will’s dead! And Ruby’s tugging our heartstrings

This week’s Emmerdale review is sadly lacking in festive cheer! Because it really wasn’t a merry Christmas for anyone in the village. There was death, a lot of secrets, quite a bit of shouting, and generally a lot of drama!

Which is just the way we like it.

Here’s what we thought of the Christmas action in our Emmerdale review.

Joe Tate is back! (Credit: ITV)
Joe’s back with a sassy new haircut, a secret illness, and a vendetta! (Credit: ITV)

    Joe Tate’s back!

The big news this Christmas in Emmerdale was the return of Joe Tate! YAY! It was revealed that Joe was the person pulling the strings, as Will tried to escape Peter’s plan. We were delighted by the news as it always felt like there was some unfinished business when it came to Joe.

And he’s certainly come back with some secrets. He’s clearly not well and we’re desperate to know what that’s all about.

We want to know why he’s back, obviously. And why he’s turned his revenge plot from Charity to Kim (also, what’s with all these younger men harbouring hatred for Kim for YEARS? Bit odd, isn’t it?)

We’ve got a lot of questions and we know we’re going to enjoy finding out the answers.

Will looks worried with Kim in the background
Will died on Christmas Day (Credit: ITV)

    Emmerdale review: Will’s dead (sob!)

And as if that wasn’t enough drama up at Home Farm, shortly after Will and Kim had renewed their vows, and Joe had strolled back in, Will was struck down by a heart attack.

He was struggling with chest pain, but Kim wasn’t sure he was being genuine. And in a brilliant bit of cyclical storytelling, she powdered her nose while watcihng him on the floor – just as she did with Frank.

BUT, Joe’s arrival made Kim realise Will was being truthful and snapped her into action. She desperately tried to save her husband’s life, while they waited for the paramedics, but there was nothing they – or the professionals – could do. It was a really clever callback to Kim’s evil takedown of Frank, except this time Kim was devastated. It felt like karma for her actions all those years ago.

We’re going to miss Will but we have a feeling his death is just the beginning of some even bigger drama – and it’s not looking good for Kim.

Ruby's clearly terrified of her dad
Ruby’s having a really hard time (Credit: ITV)

    We’re rooting for Ruby

Emmerdale’s had some pretty sinister baddies over the years (not you, Jade), but we reckon Anthony is the most evil of all.

Poor Ruby is clearly terrified of her father. Her reaction to being left alone with him on Christmas Day was shocking and we can see why.

He’s so charming to everyone else, while making sly, pointed comments to Ruby as she quivers in fright, that it makes us shudder.

We were delighted when Cain interrupted Anthony tormenting Ruby mentally, and when he realised how scared poor Ruby was. We also loved him confiding in Ruby about his own abuse at the hands of Shadrach.

This awful storyline isn’t easy to watch, but it’s being handled brilliantly and we’re looking forward to seeing how it plays out. We’re totally invested in Ruby’s torment now. Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby, is so clever in showing us every side of her character, even when Ruby’s friends and family can’t see it. We’re all in with this one.

    April gets drunk
April’s gone off the rails (Credit: ITV)

April’s missing in our Emmerdale review

It’s early days in April’s story, but so far, this drama doesn’t have us gripped. At the moment, everyone just seems to be doing a lot of shouting and finger pointing.

No one – not even the police – seems to be thinking clearly or rationally about where April could have gone, or why. It’s infuriating and frustrating. DS Foy would have found April by now, that’s all we’re saying.

As Will Taylor dies of a heart attack, fan theory reckons Joe Tate killed him

In Emmerdale, Will Taylor met an untimely end this week after suffering a heart attack. But fans believe Joe Tate was actually responsible for Will’s death.

Joe returned to the Dales on Christmas Day after six years away and picked up where he left off by creating drama.

After revealing to Kim Tate that her husband Will had been plotting to bring her down, Will collapsed to the floor clutching his chest. But fans think there was more to Will’s death and that Joe had a hand in it.

    Will Taylor dies

During Emmerdale’s Christmas episode, Kim and Will renewed their wedding vows. Shortly after, their bubble of happiness was burst when Joe Tate made a dramatic entrance.

Joe revealed to Kim that Will had been planning revenge on her. He lied about Will’s involvement, telling Kim that Will had actually orchestrated it all by getting in touch with Kim’s son Jamie. Joe also told Kim that he and her financial advisor Peter had only gone along with the plan as a joke, to see how far Will would take it.

Kim asked to be alone with Will, where he attempted to give his version of events. But Kim wasn’t having any of it. Shortly after, Will collapsed to the floor clutching his chest. Kim ignored his pleas for help, accusing him of faking a heart attack for sympathy.

It was only when Joe returned that Kim started to help her husband. However, it was too late and by the time medics arrived at the scene, Will was pronounced dead.

Fans suspect Joe Tate in Emmerdale

After watching Will’s death, fans felt it was too much of a coincidence that Will would die so soon after Joe’s return.

Taking to X, one fan said: “Makes you wonder if Joe slipped some pills into Will’s drink.” A second fan agreed, writing: “ I think Joe put something in the wine, that caused will to get a heart attack.”

Over on Instagram, fans were in agreement, with one asking: “Who killed Will? Joe Tate?” Another fan added: “There is a twist somewhere.”

A fifth fan said: “I’m sure Joe is behind Will’s passing because the pills he is taking.”

Who are the parents of Joe Tate in Emmerdale?

Joseph Tate was born on June 8 1995 to parents Chris Tate and his wife, Rachel Hughes. Joe was named after Rachel’s stepfather, Joe Sugden.

Two years after he was born, Joe’s parents divorced, and his mum Rachel was given custody. However she was pushed off a cliff and killed by her psycho boyfriend Graham Clark, just before Joe’s fourth birthday.

Joe then went to live with his dad Chris. When his father later married Charity Dingle,  Joseph decided he wanted to go away to boarding school.

Chris was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in 2003 and took his own life to frame Charity for his murder. Joseph was taken in by his aunt Zoe Tate. They left the village for New Zealand in 2005.

Noah Tate is Joe’s younger half-brother and the two became quite close when Joe returned in 2017.

    Tom Waterhouse

Mysterious Tom Waterhouse arrived in Emmerdale in 2017 with his sidekick, Graham Foster. However it was later revealed Tom was actually Joe Tate who wanted revenge on Charity as he believed she was responsible for his father taking his own life.

He managed to get Charity and her daughter Debbie involved in his shady business dealings. Debbie soon fell for ‘Tom’, and before long the pair were embroiled in a relationship. He bought Debbie a house and supported her through her daughter Sarah Sugden’s life-threatening illness.

But things came to a head when Tom revealed who he really was. The romance was all part of his plot and he evicted Debs and her kids, leaving them homeless.

Devastated at Joe’s betrayal, Debbie swore that she would get her revenge. Charity also vowed to make Joe pay for messing with her family.

So how does Kim Tate fit in?

Kim was married to Joe’s grandfather, Frank Tate, making her his step-grandmother.

Kim was in prison for fraud when Joe returned to the village – however, it was later revealed that she was actually the mastermind behind his plot to get revenge on Charity and the Dingles, and Joe had merely been carrying out her bidding.

Joe had led everyone to believe that he owned Home Farm, along with the rest of the Tate fortune. But actually, control of the whole estate belonged to Kim, and Joe was just a pawn in her wicked games.

However Joe hadn’t been completely following her instructions and had been spending her money. When Kim was released from prison she was furious about it and wanted rid of him for good.

She used her henchman, Graham Foster to kill Joe. But Graham cared about Joe like a son. When Graham and Joe first arrived in the village together, he appeared to just be a paid employee, but their friendship clearly ran a lot deeper.

It was later revealed that the pair met while Joe was at boarding school. Graham was the school groundsman, who developed a close bond with mischievous teenager Joe.

After Joe got in trouble for locking his head teacher in a cupboard, his aunt Zoe made Graham the boy’s legal guardian to prevent him from being expelled.

The pair remained close, and when Joe left school and launched his own business, he employed Graham as his right-hand man.

So, despite Graham’s loyalties to Kim (they were actually married!) he just couldn’t off Joe.

Is Joe Tate dead in Emmerdale?

Graham was in a state after Kim ordered Joe’s demise. He was completely torn, but resigned to doing as Kim wished.

But Graham just couldn’t go through with it and gave Joe £100,000 telling him to leave the village for good. Joe was ready to run, leaving his bride Debbie standing at the altar.

However he just couldn’t leave Debbie. By this point he genuinely loved her and wanted to marry her, so risked his life to go back to her.

By this point, Cain had discovered that Joe had jilted Debbie and he was furious. In true Cain style he tracked down Joe and punched him to the ground. As Joe hit his head on a rock, Cain thought he had killed him.

Along came Graham who confirmed Joe was dead. He firmly told Cain to leave and he would dispose of the body. However, as Joe was put in the boot of Graham’s car we saw his hand twitch.

It then seemed as if Graham had finished the job, with Cain believing he had killed Joe and torturing himself. Cain confessed his crimes to Debbie and the pair fell out.

However months later, in March 2019, it was revealed to be a ruse. Kim was shocked to find out that Joe was actually alive and well – and living it up in Monte Carlo!

CCTV footage revealed that Graham had helped him to escape and set up a new identity. Kim ordered a hit man to deal with him once and for all, but by that point Joe had already moved on – and we have not seen or heard from him – until now!

Joe Tate is returning to Emmerdale

Yes, that’s right, Joe Tate is back! He is the one who is the mastermind behind the plot to bring down Kim Tate.

Joe’s arrival comes just before a flashforward scene on Christmas Day which shows devastation at Home Farm. With Kim looking forward to Christmas and renewing her vows with Will, it looks like it will end in disaster.

There will be huge confrontations, heartbreak and lots of twists as Home Farm is changed forever!

Producer, Laura Shaw said of Joe’s return: “We are thrilled to welcome Ned back to village as the complex and captivating Joe Tate. From the moment Joe arrives on screen, it’s clear there’s trouble ahead but Joe’s hiding an even darker secret that could see 2025 start off with a huge bang.”
