Emmerdale tonight was an hour long, after the soap missed an episode on ITV last night – and there was drama galore!
Top of the list was Matty’s release from prison. Everyone else was so happy to see him a free man but he was in a state of trauma.

Emmerdale tonight: Matty’s free but is Samson going inside?
The same day started dramatically differently for two Dingle households, with Sam and Lydia having another blazing row, while Moira was feeling positive about Matty’s future.
Sam had convinced himself that Samson would be heading inside for lying about the stabbing.
“It’s only a matter of time before they charge him, and not just with what he’s confessed to but for lying in the first place, perverting the course of justice.
“You’ve got no idea what you’ve done, either of you,” he snapped at his wife and son.
Samson replied that he knew his dad had hit Cain, but no one else was to blame for what had happened – and then laid down a bizarre challenge.
“Go on, hit me. It might make you feel better,” he said.
“It’s a bit late for that now,” Sam replied mournfully.
When alone with Lydia, Sam finally admitted: “I won’t turn my back on him, but Cain was right, after what he’s done I’m ashamed to call him my son. Maybe I was too soft on him, somewhere along the line I’ve failed him.
“Nothing I can do now, he’s on his own, and no idea what’s coming his way.”
Later, Matty did indeed walk from prison – and a tense run-in with Samson ensued.
“I wouldn’t wish prison on anyone,” Matty said and, assuming Samson’s fate was already sealed, added: “Just keep your head down and your mouth shut – and tell the truth, you can’t let someone like Josh get away with it.”
Hmmm, all these hints at Samson not having a clue what’s about to hit him… will he be exiting the village permanently – and in a wooden box?

Laurel and Jai at war?
The rain cloud reached Laurel and Jai’s house in Emmerdale tonight, where they agreed to tell all their kids about their split – although he was definitely still trying to avoid it.
“So soon after your heart attack… it’s a lot for them,” he pleaded. But Laurel had no intention of changing her mind.
With Arthur away in Australia, the former couple broke the news to Archie and Dotty at home, who took it as well as small children could.
And with that chore ticked off the list, Laurel moved on to the next: Operation Get Jai out of the House.
Jai reluctantly agreed to move back into his family home, assuming Archie would be right by his side – “He’s my son, Laurel, where I go he goes.”
However, Archie had other plans – staying put with Laurel and his ‘sister’, as he cutely called Dotty.
Emmerdale tonight: Rose stepped up her plan – but, er, what actually is it?
Whether he’s secretly finding Rose a temptation under his roof or genuinely wants her gone, Will tells his ex that it’s time she found somewhere else to rest her head.
But Rose has no intention of moving on and protested that Dawn and the kids like having her at home, and her leaving would just punish them.
Later, she was briefly on a call to Bali, where Ruby is on holiday, telling her they need to move their plan on.
Before the day was out, a shady stranger handed Rose a brown envelope that contained a small bottle with clear liquid in it.
“Careful, there’s enough there to put an elephant down,” the mystery man warned. “You’ll receive further instructions in due course.”
Is murder afoot? Or a plan to drug Will to get him into a compromising position?
Liam doth protest too much about being happy single (Credit: ITV)
Liam and Chas kissing in a tree?
Elsewhere the village’s GPs Manpreet and Liam idly chatted about their disastrous love lives.
While Manpreet subscribed to the old adage the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else, Liam was resolute that – with his track record – he’s better off staying single.
His colleague protested that he clearly had unfinished business with Chas (Lucy Pargeter) after their one-night stand.
And she’d clearly hit on something as, when Chas later suggested they have a drink together, he happily agreed.

Emmerdale tonight echoed the mood of the nation with Cain feeling fragile after drowning his sorrows following England’s defeat in the Euros.
And there wasn’t much cheer elsewhere in the village, as relationships crumbled left, right and centre.

Emmerdale tonight: Sam and Samson’s get-away plan thwarted
Having warned his son he’d have to run away in Friday’s episode, Sam confirmed his escape plans for Samson.
He’d booked a ferry, and would sell Samson’s late mum Alice’s wedding ring so he’d have some funds.
“You’re going away where no one can find you,’ Sam said – just as Lydia approached them.
She was furious to discover their plot and told her husband: “What about Matty? Samson’s just gonna leave the poor boy to rot?”
“Samson comes first. I’m getting him out of here… don’t try to stop me,” Sam bellowed back.
Later, Lydia challenged Samson, warning that running away might just make things worse for him – namely people realising he’d been lying.
“Samson Dingle goes on his hols, can’t be contacted… nothing suspicious there,” she mocked.
In a last ditch attempt to make her stepson do the right thing, she said: “Think about it… do you think you’ll be able to live with yourself, knowing someone else is inside because of what you’ve done?
“The only thing Matty is guilty of is defending himself against you.”
It did the trick as Samson headed to the police station and finally told the truth… Potentially good news for Matty, but a disaster in waiting or Sam and Lydia’s marriage?
Sam saw red, screaming at his wife: “Why the hell did you make him do this? Don’t you realise what’s going to happen to him? He’s going inside.
“I had it sorted, but you couldn’t have that could you?
“I’ll never forgive you for this.”
And Sam appeared ready to burn more bridges as he argued with Cain, who accused him of always being too soft on his son.
Cain then made the mistake of bringing up Alice as he declared “her son’s a deadbeat and her dad let it happen”.
With that, Sam took a swing at him… not many men would be brave – or in Sam’s case stupid – enough to try that!
Rose made her move on her ex (Credit: ITV)
Rose a thorn in Will’s side
Meanwhile at Home Farm, Will told Billy he knew that Kim had been covering for him and warned: “In future, do not do stupid stuff.”
“That was good of you, supporting the Missus,” Kim acknowledged.
Will replied: “I admit I’ve been hard on you… you should have put me six foot under.” Er, he does know what happened to her husband, Frank, right?
Later Rose revealed that she’d overheard the conversation and thanked Kim for her protection of Dawn.
And, in her own show of support, she declared: “I’m stopping the booze, I want to be a bit more present for Dawn and the kids.”
“At least the brandy bill will go down,” Kim deadpanned.
Of course, viewers know that Rose is up to no good and she was later on the phone to her mystery person, saying: “I got some Brownie points yesterday but I don’t know.”
Will interrupted the and Rose decided to up her game, telling him softly: “I still can’t believe I’m here sometimes with you, my daughter, my grandchildren.”
Then she planted one on her ex!
“What is wrong with you?” came Will’s response. “I did not encourage that… what was it, one moment of madness?
“You have to understand that I love my wife* and nothing is gonna stand in the way of that.”
*Wife? Or fancy car, big house and designer gear? The jury’s still out on that one, Will!
Laurel’s moving on
Jai was left feeling hopeful that he and Laurel can move past their issues after her heart attack, as she told him it was time to leave things in the past.Â
But what she actually meant by ‘things’ was their relationship.
“I think it’s time to tell the kids we’re splitting up,” she declared. Awkward!

Emmerdale tonight, and it was the morning after too-many-drinks the night before.
Few things on TV are as cringe as actors playing drunk, because most do it tremendously badly – with the exception of Natalie J Robb’s Moira in Emmerdale – and Steve McFadden as EastEnders’ alcoholic Phil.Â
And in tonight’s trip to the village, viewers were confronted with awkward ‘comedy’ scenes of Mandy and Rhona returning disheveled, stumbling and slurry from a night out on the lash.Â
The pain continued as they headed back to Paddy’s, and Rhona discovered she’d had a tattoo of a Spice Girl inked on her back… Mandy chirped: “It looks like Posh but from this angle it could be Mel C, whatever she’s got a big nose.”
Why? All so Mandy could work out Rhona isn’t boring after all, it seems.

Samson and Sam – Stupid and Stupider strike again
The actual laugh in Emmerdale tonight came courtesy of Sam, who straight-faced declared, “It’s a good job the police got to her before I did, I can tell you that,” as Samson snivelled about Moira kidnapping and threatening him.
Sam Vs Moira? He’d be weeing in his wellies at the mere thought of her Glasgow kiss.
Meanwhile, Natalie J Robb was pulling at the heartstrings again with her faultless 360 portrayal of Moira as she implored Lydia to accept Samson was lying – and convince him to do the right thing.
“Mother to mother, I know what I’m asking is a lot. But I’ve already buried one child, please don’t let me bury another,” Moira sobbed.
Lydia strained: “Samson is like a son to me and you’re asking me to turn him in.”
But, never knowingly not doing the right thing, she later told her stepson: “I’ve fought your corner every step of the way, supported you, so if there’s something you’re not telling us, say. Now.”
With that, Samson finally cracked and confessed.
As Lydia ran off in horror, telling Samson she’s never felt so disappointed and ashamed of him, the teen turned to his dad for advice.
“Dad, what am I going to do?” Samson whined.
“Run, get away from here, it’s the only way I can help you,” he replied.
Your Dad of the Year trophy’s in the post, Sam.
Kim arrived home to find a party in her house – with no invitation for her (Credit: ITV)
Who’s kidnapped the real Kim Tate?
While it’s been interesting to see Emmerdale’s iconic Ice Queen melting a little in her autumn years, her backbone is now in danger of full-on crumbling.
She’s allowing stepdaughter Dawn and her prodigal mother to walk all over her – in her own country manor!
Tonight, Rose took advantage of Dawn being annoyed with Kim for ‘bursting the bubble’ – allowing germs into the house – to weasel her way further into her daughter and ex-husband’s affections.
Kim was excluded from Clemmie’s birthday party. In her house.
Her response? “It’s nice to know where one stands.”
This from a woman who faked her own death to avenge her son’s poisoning plot.
Kim needs to have a word with herself, fast. Mellowing we can live with, turning into a melt, we cannot.
Just friends
Charles told Manpreet that their bunk-up in last night’s episode had been a one-off and if being just friends now would be weird for her, he’d understand.
Her lips said friends was just fine, but her eyes told a different story – suggesting a whole new plot around Mapreet. Will she suddenly turn into a bunny boiling ex? (It’s in the genes, after all.)

It’s been messing up the soap schedules… but is football finally coming home? Let’s just say it stands a much, much better chance than poor Matty Barton after his family’s latest desperate attempt to get him out of jail in Emmerdale tonight.
Emmerdale tonight: Moira a Mob boss in the making
In Thursday’s hour-long visit to the Dales, Moira (played by Natalie J Robb) couldn’t bear what’s happening to her son and decided to go all Glasweegie gangster – with what appeared to be EastEnders bad boys Grant and Phil Mitchell tucked down her top for moral support – on Samson’s ass.
She and Mack ‘escorted’ Samson from the Dingles’ place to Butlers’ farm, where they ‘encouraged’ him to tell the police the truth that Josh attacked Matty, in an attempt to get him off and get him to safety.
Moira motioned to (albeit half-heartedly) strangle the teen Dingle, before he agreed to the plan.
“I won’t forget this, you’re saving Matty’s life,” she told Samson, as he insisted on heading into the cop shop alone, after his aunt insisted on driving him there.
RED ALERT MOIRA! RED ALERT!
Later, the police arrived and Moira and Mack were in shock to discover what all viewers had figured out 15 minutes earlier – snivelling Samson had doubled crossed her!
The local plod arrested M & M on suspicion of kidnapping and imprisonment – and Mamma Barton once again reminded us why she’s a soap icon as she calmly kissed her boys goodbye as though she was heading out to buy bread.
With Matty now looking even more like he’s toast.

Friends with baggage
Elsewhere, there was a refreshingly grown-up conversation between exes Charles and Manpreet as they opened up about why their relationship actually started to go wrong a long time ago – and agreed it was lovely they could be friends. Before then ending up in bed together.
Charles couldn’t wait to make his exit afterwards as doe-eyed Manpreet said, “I’ll see you again soon then for a drink… or something.” The look on her face suggested that ‘something’ she had in mind isn’t Scrabble.
Friend-ing with benefits with the grieving ex that harshly dumped her… what could possibly go wrong?
Has Kim’s kindness to Billy just made her own life unbearable? (Credit: ITV)
Kim’s kindness an awful foreshadowing?
There was more anxious pacing at Home Farm as gravely ill baby Evan was admitted to hospital with an infection. Dawn was on the warpath convinced that husband Billy was to blame after he supposedly returned home from a job in Bristol, bringing with him the offending germs.
Thankfully only Kim knew that job in Bristol was actually a booze-up with Nate and, as Dawn took Billy on a very long guilt trip, Kim stepped in to suggest she had brought the infection about after meeting a client.
Dawn branded her stepmother selfish and stupid before spitting cryptically, “She’s not getting away with this.”
In another room, meanwhile, Kim assured Billy: “Let her have a big rant about the big, bad witch. She can shout and scream at me all she likes. It’ll all calm down once Evan is better.”
Will the words ‘once Evan is better’ come back to haunt her – and tear the family apart?

Next week’s Emmerdale spoilers reveal Rose Jackson ups her game as she continues with her plan to take down Kim Tate for Ruby Fox-Miligan. But her next move could have devastating consequences…
Her plan is to drug Will Taylor and then entrap him. But it hits a serious problem when Kim and Dawn intrude on the moment. Has Rose accidentally drugged her own daughter?
Rose makes her first move without drugging her ex (Credit: ITV)
Rose kisses Will
Ruby is pressuring Rose to get going with their plan and make something happen. Panicking Rose offers Ruby an update – but is almost caught by Will.
Desperate to cover her tracks, Rose shocks Will by moving in for a kiss. But if she thought it would be that simple, she was wrong and loyal Will quickly pulls away and then walks out.
Rose has no idea if he will spill the beans to Kim, therefore cooking her proverbial goose. What he does tells Kim is that it’s time Rose moved out. Kim obviously agrees and is eager to proceed, but Rose quickly stops them talking further and more decisively by letting a horse loose. It causes mayhem and momentarily distracts Will and Kim enough to give Rose a reprieve.
The next stage of the plan takes a dangerous turn (Credit: ITV)
The plan hits a bump in Emmerdale spoilers
With traditional seduction techniques failing, Rose plays dirty. After receiving a mysterious message, she heads off the the outskirts of the village.
There she is met be a dealer who gives her a vial of tranquilliser. He then tells her to wait for further instructions.
But things hit a snag when Evan is discharged from hospital. Unable to disconnect from her maternal feelings, Rose is overcome with joy when Dawn calls her mum for the first time.
With Rose in turmoil, she is unsure if she can go through with the plan. It is pretty dreadful and chances are Dawn would never forgive her.
Her choice is simple: betray her family and lose them for good, or annoy Ruby so much Rose would probably end up losing her family anyway. Not much choice there, is there?
Cheers – here’s to drugging you! (Credit: ITV)
Rose’s plan goes very wrong
It seems Rose has made her choice and she pops some Champagne and drops the horse tranquiliser in Will’s glass. As they cheers, before Will takes a sip, Kim and Dawn return home.
Will insists they join in and two more drinks are poured. But as she fakes being fine with it all, Rose is thrown into a spin when she loses track of which glass contains the drugs. Oops. Not exactly a criminal mastermind, is she?
Is Dawn in danger? (Credit: ITV)
Things have very quickly taken an even darker turn and Rose has no idea how to make it right. Has she accidentally drugged her own daughter? Or is Kim on the receiving end of the nasty dose?
Is there any way out of this for Rose – or has she finally lost everything?

Home Farm in Emmerdale is the sprawling country estate and the jewel in the village crown. The grand 17th century property has 11 bedrooms and acres of land.
It is located about half a mile from the village and is part of the Home Farm Estate.
The current owner and lady of the manor is Kim Tate, who has lived there on and off since 1989.
Kim lives in Home Farm with her husband Will Taylor, his daughter Dawn Fletcher, her husband Billy and their baby son Evan.
Home Farm is situated on the edge of the village and was originally named Millfield Hall. It belonged to the Verney family and had been in their possession for generations.
In 1973, George and Laura Verney were lord and lady of the manor. Following George’s death five years later, his nephew Gerald Verney took over, but was then forced to sell up to pay off his mounting debts.
Millfield Hall was sold to North Yorkshire Estates (NY Estates) and given the new name, Home Farm.
Over the next decade, various families resided in the property and managed the Home Farm business estate. These included Trevor Thatcher, Maurice Westrop and Richard Antsy.
In 1988, Joe Sudgen and Alan Tate were swindled out of purchasing Home Farm by ruthless Denis Rigg, who lived there for a year he was crushed to death by a bull.
The country pile went up for sale again and was snapped by haulage baron Frank Tate, ushering in a new era for Home Farm.

The Tates at Home Farm in Emmerdale: 1989-2005
Frank Tate arrived in the village in 1989, alongside his second wife Kim, and his grown-up children Chris and Zoe.
Rich and powerful, Frank not only purchased Home Farm, but all the land that went with it. He had big plans for the village, but was met with opposition from the locals, in particular Jack Sugden.
When a plane crashed into the village in 1993, Frank became a local hero after he helped save lives.
Drama
Kim Tate had successfully managed to find her way into Frank’s bed, having started out as his secretary. However, she soon tired of married life and had two affairs. The first was with gamekeeper Neil Kincaid and then Home Farm employee Dave Glover.
Divorce
Frank and Kim divorced after he uncovered her betrayal with Neil, but they remarried on Christmas Day 1994.

Deaths
Kim’s toy boy lover Dave perished in a fire at Home Farm on Boxing Day 1996 after rescuing her baby son, James from the flames.
Frank survived his first heart attack in 1994, but his next one in 1997 proved to be fatal. Every moment of his slow and painful death in the living room of Home Farm was witnessed by Kim – who then fled the village in a helicopter to escape prison.
In 2003, Home Farm heir Chris committed suicide after learning he had an inoperable brain tumour. He tried to frame former wife Charity Dingle for murder.
Destruction
By 2005, Zoe was done with Home Farm and arranged to emigrate with her daughter Jean and Chris’s son Joseph. She was blackmailed into selling to the King family for a reduced price. But in a parting act of defiance, vengeful Zoe triggered a gas leak which resulted in Home Farm going up in flames!

The Kings: 2005-2008
In 2005, widower Tom King moved in with his sons Jimmy, Matthew, Carl and Max – as well as their numerous wives.
Like the Tates, the Kings were also in the haulage business, and ran their enterprise King & Sons from the estate.
The Kings may have been rich and powerful, but life at Home Farm brought them nothing but misery and misfortune.
In fact it’s only Jimmy who lived to tell the tale.
Carl killed his dad (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)
Death
Are you ready? Max, the youngest King son, was killed in a car crash in 2005. Tom met his maker on Christmas Day 2006 when he was pushed out of a window at Home Farm, sparking the show’s biggest ever whodunit. It turned out son Carl King was responsible.
Matthew was next to fall off the mortal coil when he died trying to mow down Carl. And as for Carl, he got his brains bashed out by serial killer Cameron Murray.
Left in dire financial straits after Tom’s death, in 2008 the King brothers were forced to hand the Home Farm baton over to the Wylde family – who more than lived up to their name.

The Wyldes: 2009-2010
Mark and Natasha Wylde snapped up Home Farm and moved in with their three kids, Nathan, Maisie and Will.
The power couple had it all going for them – good looking, rich and successful. But Mark’s murky past quickly caught up with them.
Drama
It transpired that Mark was actually called Daniel Lamb and had changed his identity after falling into debt. Mark was also a bigamist, and had walked out on wife Faye Lamb when she was pregnant with their son, Ryan. Faye and Ryan soon showed up at Home Farm and 30 years of deceit were laid bare.
Death
Scorned Natasha ended up shooting Mark dead in the estate’s woods after discovering the truth about his double life. She was sent to prison for his murder, meaning Home Farm was up for grabs again. And Declan Macey’s wife, Ella Hart pounced.

The Maceys at Home Farm in Emmerdale: 2010-2014
Natasha’s former lover Declan Macey was the next businessman to claim the throne of Home Farm. Joining him in residence were his ex-wife Ella and their daughter, Mia.
Declan’s sister Megan also lived there for a while with her son Robbie, as did their father Dermot.
Drama
Declan was arrested for murder after human remains were discovered on Home Farm land. The bones belonged to Alex Moss, who was one of serial killer Cameron Murray’s victims.
Declan had a short-lived marriage to Katie Sugden and then went on to marry Charity Dingle.
After going off the rails, Declan attempted to end his own life by setting fire to Home Farm. He then hatched a dastardly plan with Charity to frame Sam Dingle and his girlfriend Rachel Breckle for the crime.
Declan then totally lost the plot, and tried to kill Charity. But his nephew, Robbie got caught in the crossfire and killed by a flare gun.
Declan went on the run and Home Farm was repossessed.

Robert embarked on a high-risk affair with mechanic Aaron Dingle, who exposed their cheating to Chrissie during a dramatic Home Farm showdown.
The house was also the scene of bloodshed in July 2016, when Lachlan held Lawrence hostage with a shotgun after a family feud. Lachlan accidentally pulled the trigger on his grandfather and Chrissie helped him frame Andy Sugden for attempted murder.
Death
In 2018, Lawrence sold Home Farm to Joseph Tate, the grandson of Frank and son of Chris. The Whites then decided to move to New Zealand, but didn’t make it that far as Lawrence and Chrissie were killed in a car crash caused by Lachlan.

The Tates New Era at Home Farm in Emmerdale: 2018-present
12 years after his departure, Joseph (Joe) Tate returned to the village. Posing under the alias of Tom Waterhouse, he purchased his childhood home, Home Farm.
Joe ran the show for a while and was set to wed Debbie Dingle, but he soon ran into financial difficulties.
And it wasn’t long before Joe’s former step-grandmother, Kim Tate, made a dramatic return to reclaim her rightful place as lady of the manor.
Kim remains in charge, alongside her husband Will Taylor.

Drama
Kim wanted Joe out of the picture and instructed her right hand man Graham Foster to get rid of him. Graham couldn’t go through with it and Joe ended up being attacked and left for dead by Cain Dingle. It was later revealed he was still alive and living off Kim’s money in Monte Carlo.
Kim wasted no time in making an enemy of nearly every local. She ended up getting pushed off the upstairs balcony at Home Farm by Faith Dingle. She survived the fall, of course.
Kim was too smart for Caleb in the end (Credit: ITV)
Deceit
Kim moved back into Home Farm permanently in 2019, and that same year her adult son Jamie came to the village.
Ruthless Jamie set his sights on his mum’s empire and began drugging her brandy over a period of months. Kim wised up to her son’s wicked plot and got one over on Jamie by faking her own death!
Kim came under threat again in 2023, when Frank Tate’s secret son Caleb Miligan plotted to destroy her and take control of Home Farm, which he viewed as his birth right.
Caleb conspired with son Nicky to take everything Kim had in revenge for her part in his father’s death – but she got the upper hand.

The body of rapist Craig Reed was found in the fields of Home Farm in October 2023. Every member of the Dingle family was in the frame for the crime, but the real killer was Kim’s horse Ice, who had trampled Craig to death.

The Tate family have been a staple of Emmerdale for 35 years, bringing a touch of class and a lot of drama to the village.
During the past almost four decades, they’ve been at the centre of many of the show’s most explosive storylines.
The Tates came to the Dales in 1989, and their arrival signified a change in direction and feel for the ITV soap. The clan were headed by patriarch Frank, who became the lord of the manor at Home Farm
Frank had five children in total, two of which he knew nothing about.
From his first marriage he had son and heir Chris and daughter Zoe, and then son James, aka Jamie, with second wife Kim.
The Tate matriarch also was father to two sons, Liam Hammond and Caleb Miligan. Both were the products of extramarital affairs and their existence was only revealed years after Frank’s death.
It’s been 27 years since Frank slipped off the mortal coil, but the Tate presence remains strong in Emmerdale – with his grandchildren now flying the flag for the next generation.
Here is a look at who’s who in the brood and how they’re all related.

Head of the Tate family in Emmerdale: Frank Tate
Francis ‘Frank’ Ronald Tate, played by Norman Bowler, was the patriarch of the wealthy Tate family and Emmerdale’s first true villain.
He arrived in the village in November 1989 along with his two grown up children, Chris and Zoe, and became the new owner of Home Farm.
His second wife and former secretary, Kim joined them a month later.
Frank was previously married to Chris and Zoe’s mum Jean, who fell ill with cancer in 1984. It was revealed Frank had assisted in Jean ending her own life and was having an affair with Kim at the time of her death.
A successful haulage baron, Frank was rich and powerful, but deeply flawed. He drank too much alcohol and had a violent temper. Frank and Kim’s marriage was tempestuous and littered with affairs and betrayals.
They welcomed baby son James in 1996, but that same year Frank tried to have Kim murdered, only to end up killing her lookalike instead.
Frank suffered a fatal heart attack 1997 after Kim ‘returned from the dead’ and had Frank framed for her ‘murder’. He died on the living room floor at Home Farm, while cold-hearted Kim used her compact mirror to check he’d taken his last breath before reapplying her make-up.

Kim Tate
Kim Tate (nee Barker), played by Claire King, was Frank’s gold-digging second wife who successfully managed to go from being his secretary to spouse.
Decades younger than her millionaire husband, Kim craved excitement and found that in the affairs she had with gamekeeper Neil Kinkaid and Dave Glover, who perished in a fire at Home Farm.
Kim survived Frank’s abuse and his attempt to kill her, and had him framed for her supposed murder.
Two years after Frank’s death, Kim fled the village with their son James in a helicopter.
During her absence, she served five years in prison while James was sent to boarding school.
Kim made her triumphant return to Emmerdale in 2018 and reclaimed her rightful place as lady of the manor.
She is the only original member of the Tate family left in the village.

The Tate family in Emmerdale: Chris Tate
Chris Tate was born in 1963, and was the first child of Frank and Jean Tate. He was played by Peter Amory.
Once heir to the Tate fortune, Chris was the managing director of the family’s haulage firm.
But life dealt Chris a tragic blow when he was injured in the 1993 plane crash and left paralysed from the waist down.
Chris loathed stepmum Kim, and the feeling was mutual. Although in real life actors Peter Amory (Chris) and Claire King (Kim) were actually a married couple.
Chris had a total of three wives. His first marriage to Kathy Merrick ended after he cheated on her with Rachel Hughes.
Rachel fell pregnant and gave birth to Chris’s son Joseph in June 1995. Chris and Rachel wed in December of the same year, but it lasted less than a year.
In 2001, Chris married Charity Dingle, and the couple welcomed son Noah. But things turned sour when Charity cheated.
Chris then discovered he had an inoperable brain tumour and took in his own life in 2003. He framed Charity for his murder in a final act of revenge.
Zoe was much-loved by villagers and viewers (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)
Zoe Tate
Village vet Zoe, played by Leah Bracknell, was the only daughter of Frank Tate. She was at the centre of several huge storylines.
She made history as the first lesbian character in a British soap when she came out in 1993.
In 1996, Zoe had a blessing ceremony with girlfriend Emma Nightingale, but then left her for Emma’s ex Susan Wilde. Zoe also had a memorable fling with Chris’s wife, Charity Dingle.
As well as dealing with the trauma of losing her father and brother, Zoe was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
She had a brief romance with Scott Windsor, which resulted in the birth of her daughter, Jean, who Zoe named after her late mother.
After standing trial for attempted murder, Zoe left the village in 2005. She took Jean and Chris’s son Joseph – and blew Home Farm up on her way out!

Liam Hammond
Two years after Frank’s death, Liam Hammond arrived in the Dales. He was revealed to be the late Tate’s illegitimate son.
The character was played by actor Liam Powley. Liam was the product of an affair between Frank and an unnamed woman.
He was born two years before Chris’s birth, which meant he was the eldest of Frank’s kids.
In revenge for his father’s abandonment and his deprived upbringing, Liam kidnapped Chris and held him hostage. Zoe came to Chris’s rescue and ended up fatally shooting Liam.
She and Chris then destroyed all evidence of their half-brother’s connection to the family. They had Liam buried near Frank.

Caleb Miligan
Just when viewers thought they’d seen the last of Frank Tate’s offspring, along came Caleb Miligan.
The character, played by William Ash, turned up on Christmas Day 2022 and soon revealed himself to be Frank’s long-lost son.
Caleb was conceived during the summer of 1975 when his mum Faith Dingle had an affair with Frank. She gave birth to Caleb in prison and he was subsequently brought up in care.
Caleb viewed the Home Farm empire as his birth right. He set about trying to destroy Kim in a bid to avenge his father’s death.
Ultimately, Caleb‘s plan failed, but he’s got plenty more schemes up his sleeve.

James Tate
James ‘Jamie’ Tate is the only child of Frank and Kim Tate.
His early years were anything other than stable. His mother faked her own death, his father died when he was just a baby and he was then kidnapped by his nanny Jan Glover.
Jamie left the village in 1999, but spent most of his childhood in boarding school after Kim was sent to prison.
During his 10-year absence, Jamie trained to become a vet. He also married wife Andrea and became a dad to Millie.
The character returned to the Dales in 2019, played by Alexander Lincoln, and proved he was a chip off the old block with his affairs and general manipulative behaviour.
His one-night stand with Gabby Thomas resulted in the birth of his son, Thomas Tate.
After being exposed for poisoning Kim, Jamie followed in his mum’s footsteps by faking his own death.
It was later revealed he was still alive and had been living with Millie and her gran – meaning the door remains open for Jamie to come and cause some further carnage.

Joseph Tate
Joseph ‘Joe’ Tate is the son of the late Chris Tate and Rachel Hughes. He spent most of his childhood in boarding school after being shipped off there when he was just a young lad.
Joe returned to the village in 2017 (played by Ned Porteous) under the alias of Tom Waterhouse.
He seduced Debbie Dingle to get revenge on her mum, Charity, who he blamed for his father Chris.s death – but ended up falling for her in the process.
Joe then bought back Home Farm and set about restoring the grand country pile, while making an enemy of a lot of the locals.
In October 2018, Joe was presumed dead after being punched by Cain Dingle. Kim’s right-hand man Graham Foster was ordered to dispose of the body, but ultimately set him free.
Joe is still alive and well and living abroad somewhere off Kim’s money.

Jean Tate
Jean Tate is Zoe’s only child and Frank Tate’s granddaughter. She was born in January 2003.
She was the product of a one-night stand between Zoe and Scott Windsor. However, the circumstances of Jean’s conception were complicated – Zoe was in the grips of schizophrenia at the time and had no recollection of having slept with Scott.
Jean left the village in September 2005 when Zoe took her and her cousin Joe to live in New Zealand.

Nicky Miligan
Much like his half-cousin Joe Tate, Nicky chose not to reveal his true identity when he first arrived in the village. The male nanny, played by Lewis Cope, was secretly working in cahoots with dad Caleb to try and destroy Kim.
Part of that plan involved seducing Kim’s protegee Gaby Thomas. The couple were set to marry, but Nicky’s conscience kicked in on the wedding day and he told Gabby the whole thing was a sham and that he was in fact, gay.
Nicky remained in the village and has since had a romance with Suni Sharma.

Noah Dingle
Noah Dingle is the son of Chris Tate and Charity Dingle, born in 2004.
Following in a Tate tradition, Noah was born in a prison hospital when Charity was serving time for the murder of his father.
Zoe tried to adopt Noah, and renamed him Christopher after his father. But Charity reclaimed her son and the pair went off to live in Spain.
Noah returned in 2007 and has remained in the village ever since.
His teenage years have not been without drama though – Noah has overdosed on drugs and spent time in prison for a stalking offense.

Millie Tate
Millie is Frank Tate’s youngest granddaughter.
She’s the daughter of Jamie Tate and his ex-wife, the late Andrea Tate.
Millie’s mum Andrea died in a fire in October 2021 after being attacked and left to perish by murderer Meena Jutla.
The youngster currently lives abroad with Jamie and her gran, Hazel.

Thomas Tate
Thomas Tate is the youngest member of the family.
Like so many of the Tates before him, Thomas was conceived from a one-night stand. In this case it was between Jamie Tate and Gabby Thomas.
With Jamie’s current whereabouts unknown, Thomas lives at Home Farm with Gabby, and where Kim can keep a close eye on her grandson.
