Roxy Shahidi confesses she did not want to leave Emmerdale as devastated fans sob Leyla ‘deserved better’

Leyla Harding passed away in last night’s episode of Emmerdale (Wednesday, February 19), and fans aren’t okay about her death.

The much-loved character passed away in an ambulance (all alone) on the way to the hospital following the limo crash.

And, fans aren’t happy with the soap’s decision to kill Leyla off (and we’re not impressed either!) Now, Roxy Shahidi has addressed her exit in a new interview.

    Emmerdale: Leyla Harding’s death

Leyla thought that the girls’ night out in the limo was going to be the perfect chance to kill her loneliness. But, it ended up killing her instead.

The poor wedding planner ended up being a passenger in a limo crash, as Charity swerved Noah in the road and ended up crashing the vehicle into a frozen lake.

Leyla did her best to hide her injury from everyone else. But, Kerry realised something was up when Leyla failed to move. Kerry then dragged her on the ice and to ‘safety’ but Leyla’s stomach was badly injured and impaled by some glass…

Losing blood, Leyla died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Jacob found the news out on shift in A&E. Running into a morgue (without permission – okay), Jacob then saw his dead mum lying perfectly still.

He then tried to give her CPR but, of course, his efforts were in vain because Leyla was well and truly dead. Heartbreaking.

Fans devastated over Leyla’s death as she ‘deserved better’

With Leyla being killed off after almost 17 years on the soap, fans have been left devastated over her exit.

They think that she deserved better than to die in the limo crash, being such a huge part of the show over the years. And, we can see why they’re upset. We didn’t even get to see her die on screen… and for such a huge character, we reckon she should’ve at least been given a death in the Thursday hour-long episode where all the big events usually happen.

And to have her so lonely and having to witness her ex-husband propose to another woman just moments before her death was just cruel!

One fan complained: “RIP Leyla Harding you deserved so much better than the utter [bleep] exit you got x”

Another person shared: “Killing off Leyla is the worst thing these [bleep] could have done! Why not send her to Portugal to live with her sister? She deserved better.”

A third fan commented: “OMG…….. Emmerdale has got me tearing up! The way they killed Leyla off, and her storyline beforehand? Ohhhh they did her character so dirty! Poor Jacob.”

Roxy Shahidi opens up on Leyla death

Actress Roxy Shahidi has now spoken out on her Emmerdale exit on today’s episode of Loose Women (Thursday, February 20).

She has revealed that the decision to kill off Leyla came as a ‘shock’ but she’s now embraced the opportunity.

“I genuinely am so excited about a new chapter. That’s what life’s about, isn’t it? You’ve got to do new things, you’ve got to challenge yourself. And, sometimes, when you’re forced to do that, it’s the best thing that can happen otherwise you’ll just stay within your comfort zone.”

She then revealed that she was ‘heartbroken’ over leaving her ‘second family’ at Emmerdale behind.

“To have been in a show like that for 16 years is such a blessing, it’s something you can’t take for granted. We’re always aware each year, most of us are on yearly contracts so you never know.

“To have done 16 years, I am so grateful, but when I got that call because I kind of knew something was happening… it was a shock.

“When it’s such an epic story, you know it’s going to happen and I think your job is just to process that, do the best you can, and just keep going.”

Emmerdale: Chas to develop painkiller addiction, new fan theory predicts

Fans of Emmerdale have predicted that Chas Dingle could be about to develop a painkiller addiction in the aftermath of this week’s limo crash. As one of the survivors, Chas had it relatively lucky, emerging unscathed from an accident which has already claimed two lives.

As the survivors were rushed to hospital, the fallout continued – Liam’s got serious head injuries, Amy’s battling for her life, and Suzy and Leyla are dead. However, Chas clearly has issues of her own – left with severe back pain after taking a tumble as she attempted to exit the limo.

As she talked to Charity last night (Wednesday, February 19) Chas showed clear signs of pain, wincing in agony as they talked. But what’s really wrong with Chas?

Is Chas’s pain really related to the crash and her subsequent fall? Some have wondered whether there might be more amiss with Chas – with some viewers even suggesting that her cancer might have returned, or spread.

Others meanwhile, have predicted that Chas might have a very different kind of struggle ahead – a battle with painkiller addiction.

Chas to battle painkiller addiction, Emmerdale fans predict

Writing on social media as the episode aired, fans shared their thoughts on Chas’s injuries. And some wondered if she might now be headed down a very dark path.

“I actually wouldn’t be surprised if she does develop a dependency on painkillers because of how accessible they are,” wrote one fan.

“Chas potentially still has cancer and it’s spread to her spine (this is the second time in a week she’s complained about her back). Either that, or they’re going to give her a prescription addiction,” said another.

“A pain killer addiction for Chas?” asked a third.

“Though Chas has never been an addict re: drugs or pills. Possibly the after effects of that (fictitious) horrendous crash in the lake. Hope it’s nothing serious,” another suggested.

If fans are right, then Joe’s painkiller support group might be about to gain an extra member.

  • Charity PTSD to return in Emmerdale following Leyla and Suzy deaths

Charity PTSD to return in Emmerdale following Leyla and Suzy deaths

Fans of Emmerdale have predicted that Charity Dingle‘s PTSD will return following the tragic deaths of Leyla and Suzy. Charity was at the wheel when the limousine crashed into an ice covered lake last week – having swerved to avoid son Noah, who was wandering deliriously in the road.

As the car smashed into the frozen lake, Suzy was killed instantly – sustaining life-ending injuries. The soap later revealed that Leyla had also been injured in the crash. As those around her climbed to safety, poor Leyla was bleeding out – having been stabbed with something sharp when the car diverted from course.

She passed out as it was just her and Kerry remaining. Although Kerry managed to drag her to shore, by then it was too late – and Leyla died in the ambulance, on the way to hospital.

Two dead as Charity crashes limo

And that’s not to mention Amy – whose life still hangs in the balance as she suffered a massive seizure last night. One can only imagine how poor Charity must be feeling, driving the car when two people were killed.

Some have wondered whether this might cause her PTSD to resurface. Last year, Charity struggled with her mental health after killing gangster Harry, suffering a bout of PTSD which led her to stab husband Mack in all the confusion.

Charity since recovered – but will the trauma of the limo crash cause it to return?

Charity PTSD to resurface following ice limo crash

Writing on social media, fans shared their thoughts on Charity’s future. And many agreed that tis might cause her PTSD to return.

“As much as I don’t want another death on Charity’s conscience, I think it could be a way of revisiting her ptsd storyline which they seemed to have completely forgotten about and I for one, am absolutely fine with them revisiting. Raise awareness and that,” wrote one fan.

“Just had a thought. I think something might happen again with Charity’s mental health,” said another.

“No cause charity is going to be such a mess after all this isn’t she,” said a third.

“Amid all the tragedy, I keep coming back to – poor Charity. What will this do to her?” asked another.

What will the guilt of the limo crash do to Charity?

  • All the ‘flaws’ in limo crash scenes in Emmerdale as fatalities revealed

All the ‘flaws’ in limo crash scenes in Emmerdale as fatalities revealed

Emmerdale has confirmed more deaths in the limo crash, as they reveal who the fatality in the ambulance was.

Last night’s episode ended with confirmation that someone else lost their life. And tonight, it was revealed to be Leyla Harding.

Fans knew Roxy Shahidi was bowing out of the soap, and there were reports suggesting Leyla would lose her life in the crash. And heartbreaking scenes confirmed this tonight.

However, despite the incredible storytelling, viewers can’t help but notice the flaws. So let’s have a look at what was odd about the episode.

Leyla was confirmed dead tonight (Credit: ITV)

Emmerdale limo crash flaws – Did anyone remember Suzy died?

While admittedly there was a lot going on, nobody (other than Vanessa) seemed bothered that Suzy had just died.

In last night’s episode, when Charity finally got through to the emergency services, she was asked if anyone had been hurt. And while she very quickly mentioned Noah, she seemingly forgot about Suzy.

The focus was very much on those still alive. But once they found out about Leyla’s death, they were all devastated.

Vanessa was the only one who seemed to care that Suzy had died in the limo crash. And even she admitted she “can’t remember” the last thing they spoke about. But when Tracy told her about Leyla, she seemed even more upset about that.

While Suzy may not have been that relevant to the show at the moment and fans insisting she was “underused”, her death deserved a bit more attention.

Whether or not there will be a bigger focus on it in the upcoming episodes remains to be seen. But as Emmerdale just lost a big character in Lelya, we have a feeling Suzy won’t be the focus.

Sarah walks into room where Jacob is with Leyla's body in Emmerdale

Sarah walked straight in to see Jacob

Jacob’s world came tumbling down (again) when he realised his mum had died. And after their last conversation, we’re sure he will be beating himself up.

As he was left alone with Leyla’s body, Sarah and Mackenzie arrived to see Charity and Noah. And after she was filled in on what happened to Leyla, Sarah headed straight for her boyfriend.

And she was able to just walk straight in to the room where Jacob and Leyla were. Nobody tried to stop her. Surely there would be rules against just anybody walking in to a room with a dead body?

Tracy and Vanessa are upset in Emmerdale

    Where is the police?

A crash this big, with two people confirmed dead and more injured is definitely due an investigation from the police. But where are they?

When emergency services arrived at the scene, there were only ambulances present. No police cars went to the lake. So you would imagine they were heading to the hospital – but no.

By the time all ambulances arrived, there were still no police. Mackenzie and Matty even had time to leave the pub, pick Sarah up and head to the hospital – and there were still no sign of anybody investigating the crash.

Aside from these and the other few flaws earlier in the week, this week’s episodes of Emmerdale have been gripping for viewers, who are deeming it the best in years.

  • Do Amy and Liam in Emmerdale die too? Worrying signs we’re in for a third death this week

Do Amy and Liam in Emmerdale die too? Worrying signs we’re in for a third death this week

Emmerdale has aired some more worrying scenes as the lives of Amy and Liam look to be in danger following the limo crash – but will they die?

Stand-in driver Charity drove the limo onto a frozen lake after she swerved the car to avoid hitting Noah, who had staggered into the road.

Suzy was declared dead immediately, while the other ladies – and Liam – slowly left the vehicle one by one. Yesterday’s episode saw ambulances arrive on the scene, but is it too late?

Chas feared for Liam (Credit: ITV)

What happened to Liam in Emmerdale tonight?

The ambulances containing the victims arrived at the hospital, where chaos ensued as hospital staff rushed to help those most in need.

While it was soon revealed that Leyla had been the one who had died on route to the hospital, things didn’t look good for some of the others.

Chas was informed that Liam Cavanagh had to go for a scan because his suspected head injury was worse than it looked. As the doctor explained that his injury explained the changes in Liam’s behaviour and speech, Chas remained firm that Liam would be OK.

Chas later told Charity what was going on with Liam, before saying: “Don’t ‘oh babe’ me OK? Because he’s going to be fine. And I’m going to get to give him my answer OK? I am. Because I’m gonna tell him that I do want to marry him.” But will she get her wish?

There have been no reports that actor Jonny McPherson is leaving Emmerdale, and fans hope he is staying put. Many took to social media to express their hope that Liam pulls through. “If Liam is killed off I will stop watching,” said one viewer. Another wrote: “I really want to see him and Chas getting married,” while a third said: “Please don’t let Liam die! Chas deserves a happy ever after!”

Kerry sat by her daughter’s hospital bedside (Credit: ITV)

Do Amy and Liam die in Emmerdale?

Kerry was informed that her daughter Amy Barton had severe hypothermia from being submerged under water for so long. Although Amy was wrapped up, the doctor told Kerry that they couldn’t turn the heat up more as it would put too much stress on her body.

It was just a matter of waiting. Meanwhile, Amy’s husband Matty was in the pub with Mack discussing the revelation that Cain cheated on Moira with Ruby. However, phone calls quickly summoned them both to the hospital.

At Amy’s hospital bedside, there were some emotional moments. Matty told an unconscious Amy: “We need you to hurry up and come back to us, all right? And Kyle. We all need you so much. I’m gonna put my foot down over this one.”

As the episode came to a close, the machines by her bed started to flatline, while Amy started shaking. Doctors rushed in, but will she be saved?

As with Jonny McPherson, there have also been no rumours of a departure for Natalie Ann Jamieson. Like with Liam, fans are also hoping Amy pulls through.

“Please be okay, Amy,” wrote one fan on X, while another said: “Hoping Amy survives please.” A third fan theorised that Amy has to be OK as that’s the only way the others will discover there is another body in the water.

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Jacob was heartbroken over Leyla’s death and Amy’s life is in danger

Emmerdale aired a truly emotional episode tonight as Jacob Gallagher discovered his mum had died, while Liam and Amy’s lives are also in danger.

Away from the hospital, Cain confessed all to Moira about his fling with Ruby.

Here’s what happened in Emmerdale tonight, Wednesday February 19.

Leyla was pronounced dead (Credit: ITV)

Jacob was heartbroken over mum’s death

The hospital was chaotic as the victims of the crash were brought in. Jacob, who was on duty at the time, was initially unaware that his mum was one of those involved in the accident.

But he soon run into Charity, who was checking on Noah. Charity told him what had happened, with Jacob rushing off in search of Leyla.

He then came across Kerry and Amy, before finding Chas and Liam. With each meeting, it became clear that Leyla was the person the paramedic had described as “dead on arrival”.

Jacob soon found a doctor standing over his mum’s body. He shouted, “Mum can you hear me? She’s still warm. Why are you just stood there? You should be trying to save her.”

In emotional scenes, Jacob broke down as he told the doctor: “You don’t know how tough she is. She wouldn’t leave me. She wouldn’t leave her son. You’re not going, I’m not letting you.”

The doctor told Jacob that Leyla was gone, but he tried to resuscitate her anyway. “You’re supposed to save people, right? Help me bring her back,” he cried.

Later, seemingly accepting that Leyla had gone, Jacob sat with his mum as he told her he was sorry that she had to die alone. “You’re too much of the life and soul to ever be on your own. I hope you know that,” he told her. Sarah soon arrived to comfort Jacob, as he broke down once again. Our hearts, sob!

Amy’s life in danger in Emmerdale tonight

Despite having a suspected broken foot, Kerry insisted on being with her daughter.

Kerry was told that her daughter Amy Barton had severe hypothermia from being submerged under water for so long. Kerry asked if they could turn the heat up, but was informed by the doctor that they had to warm her up gradually otherwise it would put too much stress on her body.

Later, Amy’s husband Matty arrived at the hospital and joined Kerry at Amy’s side where they were eager for Amy to wake up.

There were more emotional moments as Matty told an unconscious Amy: “We need you to hurry up and come back to us, all right? And Kyle. We all need you so much. I’m gonna put my foot down over this one.”

But there were scary scenes at the end of the episodes, when the machines started to flatline and Amy’s body started to shake. Doctors rushed in, as a flashback showed Amy in the water with the mystery body again.

Chas was hopeful about Liam (Credit: ITV)

    Chas wants to marry Liam

Liam Cavanagh was disorientated following the crash and tonight Chas was told that he had to go for a scan because his suspected head injury was worse than it looked.

The doctor said that Liam’s injury explained the changes in his behaviour and speech. Chas said it sounded bad, with the doctor confirming that it could be.

She was adamant he’d pull through though and told the doctor: “He’s a doctor by the way, so you can be straight with him. You know, when he comes round, which he will do.”

Later, Chas reiterated her belief that Liam would be OK to Charity, telling her: “Don’t ‘oh babe’ me OK? Because he’s going to be fine. And I’m going to get to give him my answer OK? I am. Because I’m gonna tell him that I do want to marry him.”

Oh we do hope so, we want a Liam and Chas wedding.

Charity was in shock (Credit: ITV)

Charity felt guilty in Emmerdale tonight

After checking in on Noah, the realisation of what had happened hit Charity.

When Mack arrived at the hospital, she asked him: “What is the matter with me Mack? Why do I keep killing people?” We have to admit, she does have quite the track record.

She later echoed these thoughts to Chas. “I was driving. Two people are dead because of me!” Will Charity face any punishment?

Cain told Moira everything (Credit: ITV)

    Cain told Moira the truth

After Caleb outed Cain for sleeping with Ruby, Cain knew he had to tell Moira before someone else did.

As he told her what happened, Moira made him repeat some of the details – such as the fact that she had been having an operation at the time. We don’t think there is any coming back from this for Cain.

Cain apologised for being “spineless”and told his wife: “I knew straightaway it was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made.” And he’s made a lot of those…

In order to stop Moira from storming round to see Ruby, Cain ended up telling Moira all about Anthony’s death and the subsequent cover-up.

It didn’t fend her off though as she rocked up at Ruby’s house anyway, where she said a classic line: “Sorry, Ruby, I’m not your husband. Then again, neither is Cain.”

Vanessa struggled over Suzy’s death (Credit: ITV)

    Elsewhere in Emmerdale tonight

Vanessa got emotional as she started to grieve for Suzy, who was the first casualty of the limo crash.

“Been sat here trying to remember the last thing I said to Suzy. Why can’t I remember? I didn’t know that all the stuff we did was for the last time,” she told Tracy, before saying: “I don’t know what I’m gonna do without her.”

    Who doesn’t make it?

It was revealed at the end of yesterday’s episode that one victim of the crash died while on the way to the hospital. In Emmerdale tonight, we find out who that is.

Numerous villagers were in a critical condition while in their ambulance. Noah Dingle was disorientated, while Amy Barton was in danger after being submerged in a freezing lake for a few minutes.

  • Why Amy definitely won’t die in the Emmerdale lake crash

Why Amy definitely won’t die in the Emmerdale lake crash

The lake limo crash in Emmerdale has had us gripped this week with lives on the line – but we’re pretty certain Amy Barton is not one of those who will die.

Amy is very much at risk, and one thing we know is she is one of four people in an ambulance being taken to hospital. One of those four has been declared dead.

Although some fans are certain Amy has met her maker, we’re certain she hasn’t – let us explain why.

Emmerdale tonight saw one more death

On Tuesday February 18, the aftermath of the lake limo crash continued. With Chas, Liam, Vanessa and Tracy safely away from the vehicle, Amy had fallen under the ice. Tracy risked her own life to go back and pull her out from the water. With hypothermia setting in, Amy lost consciousness and when the ambulance crew arrived she was unresponsive.

Meanwhile, Liam had had a nasty bump to the head. He was lying in Chas’ arms, struggling to stay awake. She begged him to keep with her, but he slowly fell asleep.

In the limo, Leyla revealed to Kerry glass had impaled her side in the crash. She too was struggling to keep her eyes open. Kerry refused to leave her and despite having a broken foot herself, started to drag her across the ice. When Kerry almost fell in, Vanessa went to help and pulled Leyla to safety. But was it too late?

Also at risk was Noah, who Charity had found in the woodland, collapsed to the floor. He was taken in an ambulance, but we are pretty sure he survives and is revealed to have been spiked.

So with these lives on the line, when the paramedic in one ambulance announced “one patient dead on arrival” we all wondered who it was.

Why we’re sure Amy will not die in Emmerdale

Although some believe Amy has met a watery fate, we think there is one very good reason she will definitely survive: what she saw under the water.

As Amy sank down to the depths, she was terrified to see a dead body. We only saw the hand, but what that hand showed us was a distinctive bracelet – just like the ones little Frankie made and just like the one her daddy, Nate Robinson, was wearing when he abruptly left the Dales and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

So we are pretty convinced Nate is under the water and Amy is the only one who knows about it. Therefore she HAS to survive so she can tell everyone. And then we’ve got a whole other storyline that looks into how he died.

It all ties in to the flashforward that saw Cain weeping at a grave – Nate is his son, so it all adds up.

And Amy is the key to moving this storyline forward, so there’s no way she’ll die. That just leaves Leyla and Liam…

Amy finds a hand – with a familiar friendship bracelet on – in the icy lake after the limo crash

Last night (Monday February 17) the girls’ limo crashed onto an icy lake and started to fall through. Suzy Merton was killed on impact and the other women (and Liam) forced to get out of the limo one by one carefully crossing the ice.

Liam, Chas, Vanessa and Tracy made it to safety, but Amy who was next to go, fell through the ice. She plunged into the water below and as she sunk to the depths she was confronted by a dead body – with us seeing just the hand, wearing a distinctive friendship bracelet. Very similar to the ones Frankie loves to make for everyone…

What happened to Nate in Emmerdale?

Nate left the Dales last year. He was supposedly taking a job in Shetland, which is known for being remote. He has barely been in touch since he went, sending just one message to ex Tracy telling her he wasn’t ready to talk and he would be in touch when he was.

The last viewers saw of Nate, he was off to confront Moira Dingle. She was unknowingly in the grips of her brain tumour and had made a pass at him. Caleb had witnessed it, told Cain and Cain had beaten his son. Nate tried to explain it was nothing and he had pushed her away, but Cain wanted nothing to do with him.

Tracy, with whom he had recently reconciled, also ended things and told him to go to Shetland alone.

Fans have long-since wondered why Nate’s exit was so abrupt. We never actually saw him leave and the last interaction he had was with John Sugden.

The fact he has not contacted his beloved daughter, who he once wanted sole custody of, nor did he respond to messages about his grandad Zak’s death, is highly susicious.

    Who killed Nate in Emmerdale?

So let’s assume for now the hand does belong to Nate. Other theories include the most obvious, Anthony, whose body was disposed of by John Sugden last month after his death. But taking him out of the equation (Frankie definitely wouldn’t have made him a friendship bracelet!), just what did happen to Nate?

    John Sugden

The smart money is on mysterious John Sugden. He was the last person (we know of) to see Nate alive and is also VERY handy at cleaning up after a murder.

Fans seem pretty convinced, with one writing on social media: “My money is on psycho John.” Another queried: So did John kill Nate because he was the last to see Nate who just weirdly disappeared?”

“We all know it’s prob John that off’d him, but considering they had no real interaction or connection it makes no sense to why? Just seems like trying to force another serial killer storyline,” mused a third.

A fourth added: “I need a flashback to why John killed Nate. That guy was suspect from the start.”

“It would explain why John appeared to have disposed of a body before he got rid of Anthony’s…” a fifth commenter connected.

A sixth wrote: “I think John killed Nate and it’s something to do with his partner who was killing the Army, I think Nate was in the Army.”

    Caleb Miligan

There was no love lost between Caleb and Nate after the former slept with the latter’s wife, Tracy. Nate took revenge by scrapping all of Caleb’s cars. But would Caleb have killed to get him back?

“My theory is that Caleb killed Nate and so Cain will kill Caleb,” shared one viewer.

Another agreed: “My money’s on Caleb having killed him.”

    Moira Dingle

A quite out-there theory, but one that made sense at the time given Moira’s out of character behaviour.

“Moira shot Nate, John covered it up and we now know he threw the body in the lake,” said one fan on X.

Emmerdale fans bash Titanic-sized plot holes amid lake crash

Fans of Emmerdale have started to pick apart this week’s lake crash stunt – finding a series of gaping plot holes as the survivors of the limousine disaster fought for life.

This followed the events of Valentine’s Day, in which a limousine containing Charity, Chas, Amy, Kerry, Suzy, Vanessa, Tracy, Leyla and Doctor Liam crashed off the road onto an ice-covered lake.

Resting precariously on the surface, it was only a matter of time before the vehicle sank to the freezing depths below.

The women (and Liam) staged an escape last night (Monday, February 17), creeping across the ice to safety, one by one. This went better for some – Tracy, Liam and Charity all made it across without much trouble, while Chas took a tumble and Amy sank entirely.

Thrilling scenes… but some were distracted by the survivors’ somewhat counter-intuitive behaviour.

Emmerdale fans point out plot holes in ice lake crash

Writing on social media as the episode aired, fans registered their confusion at the survivors’ actions. And, among the questionable work on show, many noticed how members of the group kept slamming the limo door shut as they made their way out of the vehicle.

“What gets me is why they kept shutting the door every time they got out,” wrote one viewer on Reddit.

Others pointed out the strange choice to delicately totter across the ice (in heels, no less!) rather than carefully crawling.

“I wondered why they took so long to try to escape and why they didn’t crawl to spread their weight? So the ice could stand the weight of a limo with a load of people in but gave way at other points?” another viewer wrote.

“I don’t understand why nobody took their heels off to get across the ice and why everybody was slamming the door all hard, that makes no sense to me,” said a third.

Meanwhile, others wondered why – Charity aside – nobody was trying to call for help.

“Why is no one calling 999? Of course in soap world no one has a signal at all and no one around for miles,” one viewer pointed out.
