What happened between Laurel and Marlon? 3 theories over mysterious texts as fans convinced it’s not an affair

Something is going on with Laurel and Marlon in Emmerdale after mysterious texts between the two were revealed. But what is actually the truth?

As the police uncovered April talking about the messages on social media, Marlon visited Laurel and the suggestion was they had been having an affair. But fans aren’t convinced and have other theories on what really happened between them.

What happened between Laurel and Marlon in Emmerdale?

The police investigating missing April have discovered a private social media account to which she had uploaded a lot of drunken videos. In one, she revealed she had found texts between Laurel and Marlon and thought they were having an affair.

Keeping the news quiet from Rhona, Marlon later went to see Laurel and told her April knew about them. He thinks this is why she ran off.

Laurel was furious that Marlon had shown the police their texts she begged: “Please, Marlon, if this gets out I could lose everything.” But Marlon was (understandably!) more concerned with April coming home and he didn’t care about the cost.

So just what are they hiding? While the evidence so far suggests it’s an affair, fans aren’t convinced. They think this is a red herring.

“I don’t think they had an affair,” said one on social media. Another agreed: “Hands up if you don’t think they had an affair.”

“Marlon and Laurel are not having an affair… he’s not the one scared the secret is gonna come out, she is, it’s obvious she’s hiding something so everyone needs to chill on the affair thing,” added a third.

    But what really happened?

Theories over Laurel and Marlon in Emmerdale

    1. An affair

So despite the fact viewers overwhelming think it’s not an affair, there are those that are convinced it is.

“Are Marlon and Laurel having an affair?!” questioned one. Another commented: “Oh wow. Another affair.”

“OMG SO HAVE LAUREL AND MARLON HAD AN AFFAIR,” asked another.

“Saint Marlon cheating with Laurel behind Rhona’s back, the dirty dog,” quipped a fourth.

The pair do have history. They had an affair before when Laurel was married to Ashley. Marlon and Laurel eventually got married themselves, but she developed an alcohol problem. In a drunken state she ran over his dog, Daisy, and tried to bury her without Marlon knowing. Needless to say their marriage ended pretty soon afterwards.

    Which leads us too…

    2. A drinking relapse

Laurel has been off the booze for quite some time and has stayed strong. But after a tough year that saw a messy divorce from Jai Sharma, could she have hit the bottle again? Some seem to think so.

“I feel like Laurel relapsed and went to Marlon,” shared one fan.

Another asked: “Did Laurel get drunk and make a move on Marlon?”

“Has Laurel relapsed?” questioned one more, while a fourth added: “No affair, wonder if she’s been drinking she’s had a lot going on.”

    3. A secret baby?

Many are confused over the fact Laurel was recently sleeping with vicar Charles. Has she used Marlon as a confessional after her fling left her with a surprising result?

“The scriptwriters are making it sound worse than it is. I’m convinced that it’s because Laurel confided in Marlon about doing the horizontal tango with the Vicar Charles,” said one.

Another took it further: “I think she’s pregnant from her night with Charles.”

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Marlon confronted Jade and Ruby became suspicious of her father

Emmerdale tonight saw a whole load of suspicion. Marlon Dingle suspected that Jade had taken April, while Ruby was suspicious of her own father’s involvement in April’s disappearance.

Meanwhile, Billy became suspicious of Joe Tate‘s involvement in Will Taylor’s death after learning about his bad boy past.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight (Friday, December 27.)

Emmerdale: Marlon and Ross searching for April

    Marlon confronted Jade

Bob organised a search party for April, but Marlon insisted it was all for nothing and that they wasting their time because he was sure Jade had her.

The police paid Ross a visit to enquire about Jade, but were satisfied that she wasn’t a suspect. Later, Marlon went to see Ross, where Ross delivered one of his classic lines: “What the hell did you tell the police? Don’t think that I won’t give you slap just because you’ve had a stroke.” Stay charming, Ross.

Marlon demanded that Ross take him to see Jade. Jade was not pleased to see Ross and told them to get out. Marlon, however refused to leave and picked up a pipe, before telling Jade: “I need you to tell me what you’ve done with my daughter.” Brave man, taking Jade on.

Fortunately, he was saved by the police, who arrived to arrest Jade for illegal fighting and betting. They said they’d had Jade under surveillance, meaning she couldn’t have taken April.

Marlon was at a loss, as he’d been so sure that he was right. Later, he lambasted Ross, saying this was all his fault for telling April the truth about Donna. “If anything happens to her, it’s on you,” he told Ross.

Joe Tate aroused suspicion in Emmerdale tonight

Following Will Taylor’s fatal heart attack, Joe covered for Kim, lying to the police that they’d been no delay in getting Will help. Tonight, Billy became suspicious of Joe and Kim’s new found closeness.

Joe Tate tried to talk to his half brother Noah Dingle in the village. But Noah was angry, telling Joe: “You let me think you were dead.”

Charity then told Joe that Noah wanted nothing to do with him, adding: “You’re a ruthless liar, who destroys innocent people to get what he wants.” Joe told her people change – “Case in point. A gold digger and petty criminal turned respectable business woman.” Way to try and make friends, Joe.

Billy witnessed the altercation and asked Charity what the deal with Joe was. She filled him in and Billy later relayed the information to Dawn.

He then shared his suspicions with Dawn. “Kim tried to kill him, that’s why he run off,” he said. “So why has she forgiven him just now? Something is off, like really off. Dawn, I have never seen your dad and Kim happier. Their vow renewal, beautiful. And he turns up and our whole world is turned upside down. Aren’t the police doing a post mortem?”

Billy then asked “What are the chances of him turning up just as your dad has a heart attack?” Dawn realised what Billy was getting at and said: “You think he murdered my dad?”

Ruby and Steph serious on Emmerdale

Ruby was suspicious of her dad

During a break from searching for April, Ruby and Steph grabbed some coffee from the cafe. While there, Steph mused: “What would make a teenage girl on Christmas morning run off before opening her presents?”

This caused Ruby to ask: “Do you know where your grandad was on Christmas morning before he came over for lunch?” Steph said he had been at the B&B. Unbeknown to them, Anthony had heard the exchange.

Later, Anthony gave Ruby a vailed threat, telling her: “We do need to be careful you know. When nasty rumours start, people are forced to defend themselves and other things come out, secrets that can ruin lives. And we don’t want that, do we?”

    Elsewhere in Emmerdale tonight

The villagers were mourning Will. Jimmy was devastated to hear about the death of his best friend. “How can my best mate be dead? We’re meant to be playing poker this week” Jimmy said, before recounting Will’s relationship advice – “never buy her flowers from the garage and always take all of the blame.”

Kim and Dawn were also struggling, but Joe was quick to take Kim to the side and tell her: “I saved you yesterday. You simply cannot afford to be showing any hint of guilt or regret. I need you to keep it together. It will all be fine. I will take care of everything. Trust me.” Trusting Joe Tate seems a mistake waiting to happen, but will Kim have any choice?

And it seems Marlon has only made things worse when April spirals even further out of control. She steals a bottle of wine from the pub and begs Cathy to drink it with her, but Cathy says no. Rejected April drinks it alone and makes a show of herself in front of Brenda, Bob, Wendy and Marlon.

  • What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Marlon’s interference sent April livid, and mulled wine ruined Heath’s memorial

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Marlon’s interference sent April livid, and mulled wine ruined Heath’s memorial

Emmerdale tonight saw Marlon tell Ross to stay away from his daughter – but April found out and made her disgust towards him known.

And, it seemed that a bad atmosphere was felt by other villagers too, with Wendy and Brenda getting on the wrong side of a grieving Bob.

Here’s everything that went down in Emmerdale tonight (Monday, December 23).

    Marlon interfered (Credit: ITV)

Marlon told Ross to stay away in Emmerdale tonight

After finding out that April was trying to buy weed online, Marlon decided to take action (something needed to be done!)

With April rebelling after finding out the true circumstances around Donna’s death (sobs), Marlon saw Ross letting himself out of his house and had words.

Ross explained that everything had been above board because April had given him the keys to stay for the night. Perhaps he should’ve checked with an actual adult before taking an angry teenager for their word?

Marlon demanded the keys back (and rightfully so) before telling Ross that he must stay away from April. His reason being? He was basically threatened by feeling like he had to compete with Ross – a guy that April clearly idolises.

Later on, April went to find Ross and saw him sitting next to some packed bags. She then tried to open up to him about her current frustration towards her dad. But, Ross wasn’t in the understanding mood.

Actually listening to Marlon’s warning, Ross made out that he didn’t care about April. Upset, April stormed back home and then found out that Marlon had been the one to interfere with her and Ross’ friendship. It’s fair to say that this revelation didn’t go down well at all…

Bob, Cathy and Brenda at Heath's memorial in Emmerdale
Bob just wanted the day to go to plan (Credit: ITV)

    Heath’s memorial fell flat

With it coming up to the one year anniversary of Heath’s death, Bob wanted to distract himself whilst also paying tribute to his late son. What better way to do this than with a carol concert?! Even though Heath wasn’t really one for carols…

Bob tried his best, putting some red tinsel around the speakers in the village, making everything festive. But, some bickering between Wendy and Brenda put a pin in Bob’s plans.

Brenda wanted to make some mulled wine from scratch but Wendy was having none of that, opting for a shop bought version. Where’s that Christmas spirit, Wendy?

After the memorial had finished (had it really started though?, be honest), Brenda apologised to Bob and helped him choose a headstone for Heath’s grave. Bob couldn’t decide on which one would be best, but Brenda spotted a stone that was ‘very Heath.’ And, that was that.

Emmerdale's Vinny and Belle with Piper's casket
Piper wasn’t in the casket (Credit: ITV)

Belle finally realised Piper’s true fate

Viewers have known for quite some time that Piper the Dog is actually alive, and that her ‘death’ was all just another one of Tom’s lies. And, now, Belle and Vinny finally know the truth.

After admitting that Piper’s death was bugging her, Vinny and Belle bravely dug up her grave and opened her casket. Instead of a rotting animal corpse, inside lay a brick.

Belle then realised that Piper was never dead, wondering what really happened to the adorable pup. We smell a reunion on its way…

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

With Dawn having moved back into Home Farm, she was busy wrapping Christmas presents for the kids. Kim then asked Dawn if it was okay to spoil Lucas, Clemmie and Evan on the 25th. Dawn was more than happy with Kim’s offer.

And, Will and Kim continued to act all loved up amid all of the festivities. But, of course, Kim’s husband was still plotting away…

Elsewhere, Steph took Ross in after finding him feeling sorry for himself outside. Nothing like a spot of good will at Christmas. And, Jacob and Sarah flirted with each other at Heath’s memorial. Sweet.

Emmerdale spoilers: Marlon reaches breaking point over April as she turns to drugs to cope

In Emmerdale spoilers for Christmas week, youngster April Windsor spirals out of control.

The teenager was left shaken last week after she was abducted by menacing Jade, over cash she thought Ross Barton had stolen.

As leverage, Jade dragged April to a location that was terribly familiar to Ross: a multi-storey car park where April’s mum and his ex, Donna, died in 2014.

And Emmerdale spoilers for later this month reveal that things are set to take a more dramatic turn for April…

Last week saw April’s life hang in the balance.  Rushing to the rescue, Ross managed to avert disaster – although this was more thanks to the arrival of Aaron and Mack, with Jade’s money.

Understandably, April was shaken to learn that her mother had taken her own life at that very same car park.

And fans will see another side to April later this month, as she struggles to come to terms with the past few weeks.

Our Emmerdale review this week is a mixed bag. There were things we loved and things we didn’t. A few things that we thought were really cleverly done and some that really weren’t.

Here’s what we thought in our Emmerdale review of the week.

    Brenda chats to Eric seriously?

    Eric’s gamble

We have been surprised by how invested we are in Eric’s impulsive behaviour and the fall out. We’ve been musing about why this has drawn us in, when it’s really a rather low-key storyline. And here’s what we reckon – it’s old school, isn’t it?

Classic Emmerdale is full of stories about money worries, scams and fraud, so in terms of subject matter this feels like something from back in the day (though back then, it would have been Pollard doing the scamming!).

But more than that, it’s been a slow burn. Eric changed his medication a while ago. It was a throwaway, inconsequential storyline that we didn’t think was important. But since then his behaviour has become more impulsive, and now his whole world has fallen apart because he’s gambled away all his money and Brenda’s too on a cryptocurrency scam.

It’s so sad to see Eric suffering and to watch Brenda’s heart breaking. We wish there was a way back for them. But it doesn’t look good, does it?

    Emmerdale review: Evil Jade

Jade continues to be a strange mix of mega-villain and petty criminal. And we do not like it. Nothing about her weird pursuit of Ross makes sense. In fact nothing about her at all makes sense.

She is a master criminal who has a team of henchmen and one henchwoman, evil enough to dangle poor April off a multi-storey carpark. She knows everything about everyone. She has a fancy car and someone to drive her round in it. And yet her line of business appears to be running half-hearted boxing matches. She’s hardly Lex Luther is she?

What was her plan when she viciously assaulted a little girl? If her minion had dropped poor April, Jade still wouldn’t have had her money.

Why are all these hard men so scared of her? Is it the beret? And WHY OH WHY didn’t Ross, or Billy, or Aaron or Mack just call the police?

Anyway given she’s still determined to get her mitts on the missing £3000 so it seems it’s not the last we’ve seen of Jade. YAY.

    April, Marlon and Ross

The awful cloud of the whole Jade thing though, had a silver lining. Two in fact. First of all we love the revisiting of April and Ross’s relationship. They have a sweet, quirky bond that really works.

And secondly, how good was Marlon and April’s chat about Donna? It’s nice to see them together and their relationship changing as April grows up. Plus it’s always good when soaps show the long-lasting effects of grief – just as Emmerdale is doing with Moira and Holly.

Rubbish husbands in our Emmerdale review

Marlon’s a treasure, but elsewhere in Emmerdale, the husbands are definitely lacking. They’re all just useless! Cain’s moping about feeling sorry for himself after he *checks notes* slept with his sister-in-law. Poor lamb.

Caleb’s busy ignoring wife Ruby’s obvious distress about her dad’s presence and not even asking her what’s up.

Mack’s playing Disney dad but being a right wally about it (and frankly, he deserved that punch from Ross, and the slap from Jade’s henchwoman). Eric’s lost Brenda’s life savings… the men of Emmerdale aren’t covering themselves in glory, are they?

    Forgotten characters

Mary’s back! Yay! And even Ivy got a mention this week. We find it really frustrating how characters vanish for weeks at a time in Emmerdale. Now, if we could just find Rhona…

Things that didn’t make sense in Emmerdale this week

There were a few things that left us scratching our heads this week, so we thought we’d lump them all together.

First of all, how quiet was that multi-storey carpark, in the middle of Hotten, three weeks before Christmas? The only cars parked in the whole place belonged to Jade, Billy and Aaron. There were no people around. No office workers, no Christmas shoppers. No one saw a thing. What luck,

Elsewhere, we were bemused by Moira’s very sweet memories of Holly leaving notes for the fairies in the bottom of a tree trunk. Except Holly was about 16 or more when the Bartons first came to Emmerdale.

But we didn’t spend too long wondering about that because we were very distracted by Moira arriving home with a toss of her luscious locks. Which, though enviable, seemed slightly out of keeping for someone who’s just had major brain surgery.

How did the surgeons at Hotten General manage to get inside Moira’s noggin without so much as harming a hair on her head? Impressive work!

Emmerdale usually airs weeknights on ITV at 7.30pm, with an early release at 7am on ITVX.

Classic Emmerdale usually airs weekdays on ITV3 at 6am and 6.30am, plus 1.40pm and 2.10pm.
