Sarah meets newcomer Kammy
Mackenzie spies Ross driving a swanky new pick-up round the village. There’s been a spate of local farm machinery thefts and Mack reckons this seems too much of a coincidence.
After failing to stop a quad bike from being stolen at Butler’s Farm, Mack accuses Ross of nicking it. But has he got the wrong guy?
Apparently so because later that day Sarah encounters a lad called Kammy who’s struggling to start a quad bike down a lane. Kammy gives Sarah a cover story about the vehicle, leaving her intrigued. There’s a definite spark between the pair as they continue to flirt, but Kammy doesn’t want to be see in the village on the quad. Hmm, we wonder why.
The newcomer panics when he sees Ross approaching. But whose side will Sarah take?

Fans of Emmerdale have been feeling let down by the return of Ross Barton to the soap. His returning to the Dales last year was billed as something as a big deal, exploding back onto the scene as Billy got himself tied up in an underground bareknuckle boxing ring.
Since coming back, Ross has found himself at the heart of April Windsor’s story – rescuing her when she was kidnapped by gangster Jade, telling her the truth about her mum’s death, and pitching in to hep with the search when she disappeared.
He’s also acted as muscle for Charity, kidnapping Joe to get to the bottom of what he was up to with Noah – locking him up in a barn where he almost died. Ross is never far away from the action but still, some fans have been underwhelmed.

‘What’s the point in Ross?’ ask Emmerdale fans amid underwhelming return
Writing on a Reddit thread as Ross’s latest scenes aired, fans debated the merit of his return. And some were wondering whether it was failing to live up to the initial potential.
“Is anyone enjoying this guy being back?? I wasn’t watching when he was originally in it and I know he’s got quite the history but I don’t find him interesting or even likeable at all. He pretty much comes off as dumb thug and I don’t get what the plan is for the character as he’s just done a bunch of random things and helped out with the April crisis,” asked one fan.
“Love him and think he’s good fun. Just wish he had more to do,” said another.
“The character is there for eye candy plain and simple. the character has middle child syndrome and the emotional stuff I really don’t care or honestly buy it,” another agreed.
But how do we solve a problem like Ross?
His friendship with April is sweet, but Ross has more than just April in the village (Credit: ITV)
What should Ross Barton do next on Emmerdale?
1. Spend more time with his family
It’s easy to forget that Ross is related to Moira – being her nephew-in-law via blood uncle John Barton. If his touching relationship with April has been anything to go by, his supportive and tender side is just as interesting as his badboy antics. So give him some scenes with Matty, for example, or let him be more present in Moira’s life.
2. Be a father to Moses
Similarly, Ross hasn’t been much of a presence in son Moses’s life lately – unless you count beating up the kid’s other father figure, Mack. Now that he’s sticking around, it would be good to see Ross make an effort with his son, showing some of the fatherly side he previously demonstrated with April.

3. Mourn Rebecca… properly
Fans were shocked to learn that, during their absence from the village, Rebecca had died during routine surgery. Since coming back, Ross hasn’t really opened up about how Rebecca’s death has affected him.
Granted, they had broken up by the time she died. But with his ex dead and Seb having been shipped off to a mystery aunt, there’s still some unresolved business there, and questions which need to be answered.
4. Ross should set up ties in the village, Emmerdale fans insist
Bare knuckle boxing and stealing vans from the depot aside, what does Ross do for work? He’s now a 35-year-old man, so should probably start thinking about getting a real job at some point. The whole bad boy routine has a limited shelf life – and even Cain Dingle had to calm down at some point.
“I don’t understand why he’s not working at the garage as I’m sure he’s a mechanic and the garage is called, “Dingle Barton,†because he received a share of it after Debbie’s acid attack,” one fan pointed out, in the same Reddit thread.

5. Give Steph the elbow
Both arriving in the village at roughly the same time, Ross soon hit it off with spoiled Miligan offspring Steph. While they make for a good-looking couple, one can’t help but wonder whether he could do better.
With some fans clamouring for Ross and Charity to rekindle their romance (if you could call it that), their explosive back-and-forth could give Ross some of the purpose he so needs.

Tonight’s episode of Emmerdale (Monday, March 10) saw Ross Barton open up to April about his former addiction to painkillers. This came as April remained desperate to help Dylan, who is battling an addiction of his own.
April is determined to be there for her pal, but Ross knows firsthand the powerful hold addiction can have. He issued April a warning, speaking about his own struggle with painkillers following his 2018 acid attack.
This is the first time Ross has brought up his own painful history since actor Michael Parr reclaimed the role last year. Since returning, he’s found himself at the heart of the action – for better and worse for everyone else involved.
But what’s the full story with Ross and his painkiller addiction?
Laurel was terrified of Ross who carjacked her (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)
When did Ross Barton join Emmerdale?
Ross first joined Emmerdale in 2013, attempting to steal Laurel’s car. Laurel managed to escape, but Ross drove off in her car. She then tracked him down and tried to attack him with a pair of scissors.
It was later revealed that Ross was the son of James and Emma Barton, making him the nephew of Moira Dingle.
Despite this shaky start, his complex-but-charismatic nature meant that Ross became a fan favourite with viewers. And no cheating or dognapping was going to change that.
Biggest storylines
Ross was part of many a memorable storyline during his five years in the village.
He teamed up with Charity for a dodgy dognapping plot and became involved in many dangerous schemes including one to kill his own brother, Pete. He was also a drug dealer and carjacker in his time.

Affair with Debbie
Ross’s affair with Debbie, who was engaged to his brother, was big news in 2015 when the truth came out at the wedding, right before a helicopter was knocked out of the sky and came crashing into the venue.
Pete beat Ross to what he thought was death. He then drove his brother’s body into the woods and buried him. But Ross was actually alive and was later seen to be waking from a coma in hospital.

Love for Donna
Actor Michael Parr really came into his own and won over the viewers with the more heart-wrenching storylines.
He was in a relationship with Donna Windsor, and was heartbroken over her terminal lung cancer diagnosis. Knowing she was dying anyway, Donna ended up throwing herself off a building as she fought to bring a gangster to justice. Ross was utterly distraught and only his relationship with Donna’s daughter April saved him from complete despair.

Acid attack
The most hard-hitting story saw Ross suffer from depression after becoming a victim of an acid attack. The assault itself had been arranged by his former lover Debbie Dingle, who had meant for another of her exes, Joe Tate, to be the target.
Ross was left with permanent scars on his face and Michael and Emmerdale received huge praise for the storyline.

Ross Barton’s painkiller addiction on Emmerdale
Following the attack, Ross developed an addiction to painkillers. Struggling to cope with the pain of the initial attack and an infection in the weeks following, Ross was in denial about his increasing reliance on the pills – and lied to Rhona that he’d sought help.
This came to a head when Liam refused to give him any more drugs. He hit an all-new low when he lashed out at Rhona, pushing her to the ground and leaving her terrified for her safety. Realising how bad things had gotten, he immediately apologised and sought help for the problem.
How many children does Ross have?
Ross shares one child with Charity – Moses Dingle, who was born of their one-night stand in 2015. When he left the soap in 2018, Ross did so with Rebecca White and her son, Sebastian.
However, tragedy struck in Ross and Rebecca’s time away – she died during a routine surgery, and Seb went off to live with a mystery aunt.

Why did Ross return to Emmerdale?
Prior to his return, Emmerdale teased: “With old wounds still to heal, his presence in the village is likely to stir up feelings and ignite some new rivalries.”
The soap soon made good on its promise, with Ross arriving amid an explosive bare-knuckle boxing storyline for Billy. Getting in deep with gangster and boxing promoter Jade, Ross found himself in hot water.
This led to the kidnap of April, and a rescue attempt by Ross. This, in turn, led to her learning the truth about mum Donna’s death. When April went missing, Ross pitched in helping Marlon with the search, and was relieved when she eventually turned up (relatively) safe and (relatively) sound.
But can he and the other villagers ever learn to trust Dylan?
Tonight in Emmerdale, Noah had a chilling memory from the night he was drugged. After questioning if Joe Tate had been there, Ross took matters into his own hands and kidnapped Joe.
Elsewhere, April Windsor made a big decision about her stillborn baby.
Here’s a full rundown of what happened in Emmerdale’s hour long episode tonight (Thursday, February 27).
Ross threatened Joe (Credit: ITV)
What happened in Emmerdale tonight: The mystery with Joe continued
While talking to Noah, Joe said: “All this hassle is just temporary. You just gotta get it over with.”
This caused Noah to have a flashback to the hospital on the night of the limo crash, where a doctor asked “Are you sure you want to go through with this? It’s not too late to back out now.” Joe was there where he said: “We’ve come this far. Just get it over with.”
Noah then asked Joe if he was there on the night he was spiked, describing his memory of ‘something like a hospital.’
Joe denied all knowledge and said that being ‘injected’ with drugs must have messed with his memory.
Charity then told Ross that it was weird that Joe said ‘injected’ when no one knows that’s what happened to Noah.Â
Later, Ross threatened Joe and took him to a barn and demanded to know what Joe did to Noah. He held a needle with drugs in and threatened to use it on Joe if he didn’t talk.Â
Joe then showed Ross boarding passes on his phone and said he was actually in the air the night of the limo crash. Hmmmm…
Ross left Joe locked in barn ‘for the LOLs’ but Joe managed to escape and get home. After calling someone for help, he passed out on the stairs.
A man arrived and helped Joe upstairs saying, ‘let’s do this.’ The man later asked Joe: “Do you think you’re fit to be conducting however many other covert operations in addition to ours? Because I don’t. I think it’s, erm, idiotic.”
The man then pointed at a case and said it’s not a long term plan. Joe said the long term plan they do have needs to hurry up, adding: “I’m not sure how much time I’ve got left.” What exactly is their plan?
April registered her stillborn baby (Credit: ITV)
April made a big decision in Emmerdale tonight
Marlon, Rhona and April met with the counsellor – Trina, where Marlon suggested they should register April’s stillborn baby’s birth. April remained reluctant though.
When alone with Trina, she admitted she felt guilty for not appreciating the nice house she has and admitted to missing her friends on the streets.
April later told Marlon and Rhona that she was ready to register the baby’s birth. She named her Rebecca after her late friend Becca.
Following that, April announced that she wanted to go back to school the next day. Is it too soon?
Steph wants answers (Credit: ITV)
What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Steph was suspicious of Ruby
Caleb couldn’t find Ruby. But we later saw her in the woods where her father is buried, talking to him . She screamed that she feels guilty and is a bigger mess than ever before.
Cain Dingle found her and Ruby told him she doesn’t know how to be normal about it.
Cain gave Ruby a lift home and dropped her off in the village so that no one saw them. However they were spotted by Steph – who just so happened to be standing in that part of the village.
Steph returned home and told her dad that Ruby is still seeing Cain. Ruby explained that it was innocent. But Steph knows something is up and is determined to find out.Â
Elsewhere in the village
Cain continued to be hated and Kyle told him he didn’t want him at his football tournament. Later, Cain arrived home to see Moira and Caleb laughing. He commented that it looked ‘cosy,’which is rich coming from him after what he did with Ruby.
Meanwhile, Kim continued to be suspicious of Joe and brought Dawn into her plan, telling her to keep an eye on his shifty behaviour.

‘Danger’ teased for Sarah as Shebz Miah reveals Emmerdale role
Speaking about his exciting new role in the soap, actor Shebz Miah, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. Everyone has been so welcoming and I already feel like a part of the family.”
He continued: “I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better job – the character is such an exciting one to play and Kammy will definitely ruffle a few feathers, but he does have the gift of the gab so although he causes a lot of mischief, I think it will be hard not to like him!”
Meanwhile, Katie Hill, who plays Sarah Sugden said: “I can’t wait for the audience to meet Kammy – he’s a really fun character and a great addition to the village. We might even see him and Sarah get up to a bit of mischief together… It has been great having Shebz join the cast and he’s been brilliant to work with!”
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw added: “We are delighted to be welcoming Shebz to Emmerdale as cheeky charmer Kammy. Charismatic, with a very playful spirit, but ultimately kind at heart, Yorkshire lad Kammy promises to bring both excitement and danger to the village.”

Fans of Emmerdale have predicted that the stress of the limousine crash could lead to an affair between Charity Dingle and Ross Barton. As the driver of the limo when it crashed into the ice-covered lake, the pressure is on Charity.
Swerving to avoid Noah – stumbling through the road after apparently being drugged – Charity found herself responsible for three deaths. First Suzy, who was killed in the initial crash, then Leyla, who died of injuries sustained, and finally Amy, who had crashed through the ice while trying to escape.

Emmerdale fans worry about Charity following limo crash
Of course, none of this was Charity’s fault – if anyone’s to blame, it’s whoever drugged or spiked Noah. However, she’s clearly struggling with her guilt, and some have worried that this might cause her PTSD to return.
And that’s not the only thing that fans think might make a comeback. One viewer has speculated that the trauma of the limo crash might somehow drive her back into the arms of a former lover – Ross.

Charity to cheat on Mack with Ross, Emmerdale fan predicts
Writing on Reddit as last week’s episodes aired, one fan put forth their theory for a Ross and Charity reunion.
“Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part because I don’t like the Ross/Steph relationship, but do you think the limo crash will lead to a Ross/Charity hookup? Mack gets mad at Charity or Charity feels bad so she pushes him away, she runs off and then Ross is miraculously wherever she is? I don’t think they’ll stay together, but I think seeing the fallout would be fun,” this fan wrote in a thread on the social media site.
However, others were more dubious.
“I personally can’t see her cheating with Ross. If she was going to cheat would be with Vanessa and I can’t see that,” said a third.
“Hope not. Charity has been the innocent one in her relationship with Mack unlike previous times. She has been fairly sensible recently, since the spiral after breaking up with Vanessa,” a fourth pointed out.
How will Charity grow with the growing sense of guilt as the village mourns its losses?

In next week’s Emmerdale spoilers the walls are closing in on Joe as he’s taken hostage by Ross. Trapped and alone in a barn, his mysterious health condition takes a sudden turn for the worse. Is this the end for Joe?
Joe has been
Emmerdale spoilers: Time is running out for sick Joe
Joe is a very poorly man, that much is clear. But the nature of his illness remains something of a mystery.
He’s already collapsed on several occasions and requires medication on a regular basis. Recently Dawn discovered Joe passed out in his car with a bottle of pills by his side. She swallowed Joe’s story about a painkiller addiction, but it’s likely his dependence on drugs is down to something else. Fans have been speculating Joe is in organ failure and on the hunt for a suitable donor.
All of this ties in very nicely with Joe’s desperation to get Noah out of the country. He was livid when his brother turned down the job offer in Dubai and it doesn’t take a brainiac to work out who was behind Noah’s recent drugging episode.
Joe has managed to get away with it so far, but for how much longer? Suspicious Kim has bugged his bedroom and instructed Lydia to follow his every move. And now Noah has begun having flashbacks to the night of his spiking. Is the truth Joe’s illness about to be exposed?

Ross attacks Joe
Tensions flare when Joe encounters Ross outside the HOP. There’s no love lost between Joe and Ross, who share a long and complicated history. Their most recent encounter saw Ross putting the frighteners on Joe in an attempt to get him to stay away from Noah.
It seems Ross is up for gunning for another fight, but then Joe is suddenly overcome by a dizzy spell.
Unaware of his fragile health, Ross is convinced Joe is putting it all on. He grabs hold of his foe and pins him up against a wall before issuing a menacing threat. And when Joe refuses to back down, Ross decides it’s time to teach the toff a lesson.

Having dragged Joe to a nearby barn, Ross continues to torture him.
He walks away, leaving Joe trapped inside the deserted building. Alone and unwell, Joe’s condition rapidly begins to deteriorate, but there’s no one around to hear his calls for help.
Will Ross – or anyone else – come to his rescue and get him to a hospital in time? Or is Joe going to be left to experience a lonely and painful death?

Last night’s episode of Emmerdale had fans questioning who the father of April’s baby might be – as the soap revealed that the missing teenager had fallen pregnant prior to running away from home on Christmas Day 2024. As fans reeled from the bombshell news, a number of theories soon emerged as to who the father might be.
From the list of suspects, two names proved popular – recently murdered predator Anthony Fox, and local hardman Ross Barton. With Anthony’s evil past having recently resurfaced, some have wondered whether he might have victimised young April prior to his own disappearance.
And then there’s Ross, who April bonded with in the days shortly before running away. These facts, combined with April’s obvious trauma, led some to wonder whether either man could have groomed the vulnerable teenager.
Lateral thinking – but extremely unlikely. Here’s why those particular fan theories might not hold water.
Viewers are wondering whether Anthony could have attacked April (Credit: ITV)
The timeline doesn’t add up for Anthony
Anthony first arrived in the village in November. April disappeared two months later, and gave birth in last night’s episode. The timing of this alone, would seem to rule him out.
Anthony’s past may have earned him a bashing from Laurel, but he had been on his best behaviour since getting his feet under Ruby and Caleb’s table. Indeed, he seemed far more concerned with tormenting Ruby and making in-roads with Steph than anything else.
“It’s more likely to be Anthony but considering he did nothing to Angel and his abuse seems based on only ruby it also seems less likely,” wrote one fan in a Reddit thread.
“If one more person says Anthony is the dad I will lose it,” said another, less diplomatically.
Ross struck up a friendship with Ross (Credit: ITV)
Ross would never
The timeline for Ross doesn’t add up either, with the village hardman returning to the soap in October. But beyond that, there’s a far more solid reason why it can’t be him – he would never.
“Ross is many things but a nonce is not one of them,” wrote one fan.

Who’s the father of April’s baby in Emmerdale?
Who the father turns out to be remains to be seen. But it’s far more likely that it’s an as-yet unknown figure – perhaps from April’s school, or a man she met on social media.

Some of the best and most enduring friendships in Emmerdale are those between two unlikely characters. On paper you wouldn’t put them together as mates, but on screen they shine.
The secret to these brilliant partnerships is chemistry. Backgrounds, age, gender, personality, none of these things have to match when it comes to a creating solid friendship.
Here are seven surprising bonds, both past and present, that the fans took into their hearts…
Kim’s friendship with Seth was heartwarming (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)
Emmerdale unlikely friendships: Kim Tate and Seth Armstrong
Seth Armstrong and Kim Tate were the definition of an unlikely pairing, but their bond stood the test of time. As lady of the manor, Kim employed Seth to work as a gamekeeper at Home Farm. But what began as a business arrangement turned into a proper friendship.
When Kim’s lover Dave Glover perished in a blaze at Home Farm, Seth defended her to the locals. He helped her get through the loss of her soulmate, and told everyone else to mind their own business.
Their sweetest moment came in 1998 when Kim asked Seth if he would give her away at her wedding to Steve Marchant. He looked pleased as punch as he walked Kim down the aisle to husband number two.
Kim departed the Dales the following year, but she never forgot her old friend. And when Seth sadly passed away in 2003 Kim paid for a crate of alcohol to be sent to his funeral.

Cain Dingle and Liam Cavanagh
Cain’s never really been one for mates, which is probably what makes his friendship with Dr Liam so adorable.
It all began back in 2021 when Liam was grieving the loss of his daughter, Leanna. The teen was one of serial killer Meena Jutla‘s victims and her death left Liam utterly bereft. Unable to listen to folks’ cliched sympathies, Liam needed someone to sit in silence with over a beer. And that’s what he found with Cain.
Liam returned the favour last year when Cain needed a supportive ear in the aftermath of Moira’s brain tumour diagnosis.
But it’s not all doom and gloom – Cain and Liam are genuinely really funny together without even trying. The perfect mixture of posh and rough.
Long live their bromance!

Emmerdale unlikely friendships: Kim Tate and Lydia Dingle
You couldn’t get more chalk and cheese than ice queen Kim and warm-hearted Lydia, but somehow it just works.
The ladies hit it off after Lydia started cleaning Kim’s house and have gone on to forge a firm friendship. Theirs is a honest relationship, and Lydia is one of the few people that gets to see Kim’s more vulnerable side.
Sam’s wife has also helped Kim loosen up and have fun. Who remembers when Lydia organised a Neil Diamond tribute act for Kim’s hen do so she could get back to her working class roots?
But it’s not all been fun and laughter. Their friendship almost collapsed after Kim confessed to Lydia that she’d left rapist Craig Reed to die after he was trampled by her horse. Lydia was initially disgusted with Kim for not calling the police, but found it in her heart to forgive her.

Lovely Finn was a friend to all, but we particularly enjoyed his partnership with vivacious Val Pollard.
The unlikely duo hit it off when Finn started working for Val and husband Eric as a cleaner at The Grange. Having just graduated from university with a degree in Economics, scrubbing toilets and making beds was far from Finn’s dream job. But his banter with Val made the time pass and Finn grew fond of her.
In turn, Val took Finn under her wing and became something of a surrogate mum to the lad. Because Finn was so polite and compliant, she often recruited him to take part in whatever mischievous scheme she’d cooked up.
Tragically, Val and Finn were killed within a year of one another, but we like to think she’s still leading him astray, somewhere.
Emmerdale unlikely friendships: April Windsor and Ross Barton
Ross Barton started out as a one-dimensional bad boy, but his cute friendship with April Windsor showed he had a heart. The duo entered each other’s lives in 2014 when Ross started going out with April’s mum Donna.
Even after Donna’s tragic death Ross remained in April’s life. We still remember how he dressed up as a pirate to make April’s first Christmas without her mummy a happy one.
When Ross returned to the village in 2024 he and April reconnected. But the teen found herself caught up in Ross’s trouble with boxing promotor Jade, which led her to learn Donna’s death was suicide, not accidental.
Now April has gone missing, Ross is out there, searching the streets for his friend. We hope she’s found safe and sound and that Emmerdale will carry on investing in their friendship.

Aaron Dingle and Paddy Kirk
Paddy has been a constant in Aaron’s life and is like a surrogate dad and big best mate all in one.
In the early days Paddy often found himself on the receiving end of Aaron’s fury. The troubled Dingle used him as an emotional, and sometimes physical, punchbag. But no matter what Aaron has thrown at Paddy, he’s always supported him.
He was the one who helped Aaron come to terms with his sexuality and the person he confided his affair with Robert to.
Aaron has been there for Paddy too. He was the one dishing out sensible advice after Paddy discovered Bear was his real father. He also was firmly team Paddy when Chas’s affair with Al Chapman became public knowledge.
We adore their on-screen chemistry, which is testament to Dominic Brunt and Danny Miller’s acting abilities.

Emmerdale unlikely friendships: Eric Pollard and Kerry Wyatt
2025 is about to see the arrival of Emmerdale’s latest unlikely friendship – Kerry and Eric.
The pair had a spectacular falling out last year after Kerry discovered Eric had deceived her over the value of a necklace. Cunning Pollard proved there was life in the old dog yet when he tricked Kerry into thinking the jewellery was worthless, then sold it behind her back for a small fortune.
But now it seems all that is forgiven and forgotten. Eric finds himself opening up to Kerry over his guilt at not paying Brenda back. He admits he’s considering torching the shop to claim the insurance, which leads Kerry to reflect on the arson attack she carried out which claimed Frank Clayton’s life. Will she confide her deadly secret to Eric?
We’re all here for this new double act. Eric always works well with a feisty female sidekick and they don’t come much feistier than Kerry.
Emmerdale usually airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV, with an early release at 7am on ITVX.
Classic Emmerdale usually airs weekdays at 6am and 6.30am, plus 1.40pm and 2.10pm on ITV3.
