Ruby agnonises over the DNA test results
Ruby returns home with a letter containing the DNA test results. Having not yet opened it, she is anxious about what news it contains.
When Caleb returns home unexpectedly, she stuffs the letter into her handbag. The next morning, after a sleepless night, Ruby finally tears open the envelope, ready to read the contents.
However, she’s interrupted yet again, when Steph comes downstairs. Overwhelmed, Ruby seeks guidance from Chas, who tries to reassure her that Caleb won’t turn his back on Steph – even if the results confirm the worst.
Will Chas realise the truth about Ruby’s pain?

Caleb stumbles across the truth
Ruby decides that it would be better to destroy the test results without looking at them. However, back at home, Caleb suffers a headache and goes looking for painkillers in Ruby’s bag.
He’s shocked when he finds an envelope with the return address of a DNA testing company printed on the back. Returning home, Ruby is horrified to find her bag open, and Caleb holding the results in his hand.
What do the results reveal – and will their marriage survive?

Ruby in Emmerdale has been having a really horrible time lately. Since it was revealed to viewers that Anthony sexually abused her growing up, fans are adamant he’s lying about his cancer.
Last night’s episode (7 January) saw Anthony tell his son-in-law Caleb that his cancer has gotten worse. And when Caleb tried to get him to tell Ruby, Anthony refused.
His reasoning was that he wants Ruby to want to be close to him on her own terms. But we all know that isn’t true.

Anthony abused Ruby in Emmerdale
The evil man has been blackmailing his daughter, forcing her to let him move into her house. And if she refused, he would tell everyone the truth about her one-night stand with Cain.
Over the last few weeks fans have been demanding justice for Ruby, as her father continues to manipulate her. When he found out about her tryst with Cain, he also tried to make her admit it was more than one night (which it wasn’t).
Before we knew the truth abolut his disgusting actions, Anthony’s ruse for coming to the village was that he was dying.
At the time Ruby refused to believe him, aware of his lying ways. But he backed it up with proof.
The digital proof doesn’t seem to be enough for fans though, as they are more convinced than ever that he is lying. And by trying to keep Caleb on his side, he further isolates his daughter ensuring his secret is kept hush.

Fans think Anthony is lying about his cancer
Taking to X after last night’s episode, fans all shared the view that his cancer story is a sham.
One wrote: “Anthony is definitely lying.”
A second viewer penned: “Anthony is definitely lying about his cancer diagnosis. Anything to worm his way back into Ruby’s life.”
Another called out Ruby’s husband Caleb for not seeing how upset she has been recently. They wrote: “Caleb letting himself be sucked into Anthony yet again.”
Since he came into the village fans have been calling for the vile character to leave so that Ruby can have peace in her life. And viewers believe he could be the most evil character that the soap has ever seen – and there’s been a lot!
Earlier this week Ruby confided in Chas but kept Anthony’s name out of it. However, the conversation left her wanting answers for herself. So she sent away a DNA test to finally know who Steph’s father is.

Emmerdale fans are concerned that Caleb and Ruby could die following a comment about them being the modern day Romeo and Juliet.
In Monday’s episode (Monday, January 6) Caleb reminisced about he and Ruby having to sneak around. Now fans are worried that this could be a clue of what is to come.
Both Caleb and Ruby have proven to be popular characters since joining the ITV soap. But could the end be near for them?

What happened in Emmerdale?
Following the revelation that Anthony Fox sexually abused daughter Ruby when she was a teenage, there has been lots of hints that Steph might not be Caleb’s daughter.
In a recent episode of Emmerdale, Caleb Miligan once against spoke about the time Steph was conceived.
Playing Made of Stone by the Stone Roses, he grabbed Ruby as he told her “it’s our song”.
While Steph mocked her parents for listening to old music, Caleb informed her that the song was the soundtrack to her being here. “There we were, me and your mum, playing tunes like this and sneaking around. Hiding in corners and well several things lead to several other things,” he told a mortified Steph.
During this time, Anthony had made his way into the room and was watching on. Caleb spotted him and added: “And you know what? It was all to avoid the disapproval of someone not a million miles from here.”
Anthony then said: “I guess you were the modern day Romeo and Juliet,” with Caleb agreeing that yes they were.

Emmerdale Fan theory predicts sad ending for Caleb and Ruby
Following the episode, a fan took to social media to question if there was a deeper meaning to the Romeo and Juliet comment.
“Erm ‘Modern day Romeo & Juliet’ comment in tonight’s Emmerdale… that better not be a hint to Caleb and Ruby both dying later this year. Ruby is one of the best things to happen to Emmerdale in a long time, so I’ll be raging,” they wrote on X.
Another fan agreed and added: “Well we know from the flashforword, Caleb will be in hospital and at death’s door.”

In Emmerdale tonight, Ruby Fox-Miligan sent a DNA test off, so she’ll soon receive answers as to whether Caleb is Steph’s father or not.
Elsewhere, Mary confronted Laurel about her attachment to Marlon, much to Marlon’s dismay.
Here’s all that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Monday January 6.
Ruby collected DNA (Credit: ITV)
Ruby decided to find answers
Following her chat with Chas last week, Ruby ordered a DNA test. Tonight, she collected samples from Steph and Caleb in order to see if there’s a match.
First she pulled a strand of hair from Steph’s head. Steph shouted out ‘ow’ in surprise, with Ruby claiming it had been a grey hair. Seems like she could have gone about it in a less painful way, hairbrush maybe?
Later, Ruby asked Chas if perhaps she was better off living in ignorance. Chas encouraged her to go ahead with the plan. But while she was collecting Caleb’s sample, he walked in. Ruby quickly hid the clear plastic bag and pushed Caleb away when he tried to kiss her.
Caleb was shocked at Ruby’s reaction. She claimed she needed to talk to him about something. But she chickened out of telling him the truth and instead asked him if he would have stayed with her if she hadn’t got pregnant. He insisted he would have. Ruby then told Caleb he was the best thing to ever happen to her and he repeated the sentiment.
Later, Ruby posted the DNA kit and will soon have answers. However, she continued to worry about what the answer might be. Caleb played a song by the Stone Roses and told Steph it was the soundtrack to her being conceived… not awkward at all….
When Anthony walked in, Ruby looked visibly awkward as she continued to fret that Caleb isn’t Steph’s dad.
Dawn made a discovery (Credit: ITV)
Dawn made a discovery in Emmerdale tonight
Following Will’s death from a heart attack over Christmas, Dawn has struggled to process her dad’s death.
Tonight, she got emotional when Jimmy brought over a box of Will’s stuff from the office. When Joe walked in, she sniped at him that the post mortem results would be out soon and they’d know the truth.
However, the coroner later called to share that there was no suspicious activity, leading to Dawn issuing an apology to Joe, who she had previously suspected of being involved in her dad’s death.
The camera then panned to the box of Will’s stuff, showing a memory stick. Dawn later found the memory stick, which had her name on it.
She put the memory stick into a computer, where Will appeared on the screen, saying that if she was watching it then it meant he was dead. He then shocked Dawn by adding: “It also means that Kim did it.”

Mary stuck her nose in
Police called Marlon to inform him they’d made an arrest regarding the girl who was stabbed. Marlon relayed the information to Rhona, who snapped: “Forgive me for not jumping for joy that April hasn’t committed a violent crime.”
Mary told her daughter that she was being harsh on Marlon, before realising that Laurel is to blame for the tension between the couple.
Later in the pub, Marlon recruited Sarah to help him search for April again. Mary said he needed to give himself a break, but Marlon refused.
Rhona continued to be snappy with Marlon, leading to Mary approaching Laurel at the bar. She told Laurel that she had enough support already so she needs to leave Marlon alone.
Laurel walked out of the pub, while Marlon was angry at his mother-in-law’s interference.
Jacob spent the night with Sian (Credit: ITV)
Elsewhere in Emmerdale tonight
Jacob continued to struggle as he burnt the candle at both ends. Early in the episode, his mum Leyla caught him leaving the house with his co-worker Sian. She invited Sian to stay for breakfast, but Jacob felt awkward and was eager to get Sian out of the village. Awkward.
Eric also spotted the pair, and while speaking to him, Sarah Sugden watched on – clearly upset that Jacob had moved on.
Later, Jacob looked stressed as he got on with his studying. His mum said he was burning the candle at both ends and needed to look after himself.
Also, in Emmerdale tonight, Cain Dingle looked unsettled upon discovering that Anthony would be staying in the village.

Following the revelation that Anthony abused daughter Ruby when she was a teenager, viewers have been wondering if Anthony could be Steph’s dad, rather than Caleb.
Tonight, Ruby goes in search of answers as she quietly pursues a DNA test and collects a hair sample from daughter Steph.
She confides in Chas about her doubts while Cain is also troubled by Anthony’s plans to settle in the village.
Ruby later has a close call when Caleb returns home early just as she’s gathering his DNA. Will he discover what his wife is up to?

Tension between Marlon and Rhona
Rhona is still upset with Marlon. Mary encourages her daughter to try and make things right, and is left to wonder if Laurel might be to blame.
Marlon’s daughter April disappeared on Christmas Day, and was later shown getting into a mystery car. Marlon is determined to continue with the quest to find the missing teen tonight.
Later, Mary intervenes and takes it upon herself to have a word with Laurel in the Woolpack, leaving Marlon furious.
Elsewhere in Emmerdale tonight
Last week, Jacob started his placement at the hospital, which was shown via a special standalone episode. During the episode, Jacob struggled on his first day and made a big mistake, which saw him reprimanded by his boss.
Tonight, life continues to take its toll and Jacob is overwhelmed and stressed.Â

But her behaviour hasn’t been as subtle as she wanted. Other villagers, including Cain and Moira have already began to have their own suspicions. But tonight it’s her sister-in-law Chas that wants answers.
Chas worries about Ruby’s drinking habits, along with her constant irritated attitude, and so she tries to piece it together.
2. Ruby gives answers
Chas’ suspicions lead her to questioning Ruby herself. And while so far Ruby has remained quiet, it seems Chas is the one to break through.
After some grilling, Ruby actually breaks her silence. But what exactly has she told Chas? Was it about her past with her dad? Or is another villager now in on her and Cain’s secret?
Emmerdale spoilers see Jacob’s stress continue. (Credit: ITV)
3. Jacob’s stress continues
Last night’s episode saw Jacob have the worst start to his A&E placement. When a teenage stab victim came in with April’s purse, Jacob called in Marlon and Rhona, after wrongly believing it was her.
Then he was faced with a drunk Sarah, and things didn’t go down well between them. And to make matters worse, Henry, a patient, died while he was on shift.
After some tough words from his superior on shift, he ended the day with some advice.
But in Emmerdale spoilers for tonight, it seems last night’s events weren’t the ending of his woes. Now, concerned about what Marlon and Rhona will choose to do, and about his relationship with Sarah, in tonight’s episode his stress continues.
Things between Marlon and Rhona get intense. (Credit: ITV)
4. Marlon and Rhona get heated in Emmerdale spoilers
At the end of yesterday’s episode, Rhona saw a text from Laurel to Marlon thanking him for keeping quiet about them. So it’s safe to assume she will have questions.
Spoilers suggest the pair get into an argument tonight, has Rhona asked him about the text?
Or have they disagreed over how to handle the Jacob situation? Either way, things don’t sound good.
While we have no idea what the texts are about, we do have some theories.

Emmerdale has outdone themselves with awful Anthony Fox – he is truly the most vile character ever to have set foot in the Dales. And fans agree – so much so that some are vowing to switch off over him.
It comes hot on the heels of Tom King’s comeuppance, but it seems getting rid of one abuser only for him to be replaced by another has dampened fans spirits somewhat.

Anthony in Emmerdale
We all know now why Ruby hates her father so much. Although her family thinks it’s all down to Anthony throwing her out when she refused to have an abortion after getting pregnant at 16, we know it’s because Anthony was abusing her. And he could possibly be Steph’s father in what would be an unimaginable twist.
Instead of being honest about the truth, Ruby has long buried her secret. And she has been able to keep a lid on it due to being totally estranged from her parents.
But now her dad is back in her life – and moving in with the family – Ruby can’t cope. She has hit the bottle hard, sparking fears of an alcoholism storyline on top of everything else she’s going through. But she continues to remain tight-lipped about Anthony’s true nature, especially because her father knows about her dalliance with Cain and is blackmailing her into letting him do pretty much what he wants.

What happened in Emmerdale this week?
Anthony is a master in playing Mr Nice in public, making everyone love him, but being slimey, manipulative and snide to Ruby in private. Even worse than Tom King, who always came across as a bit sulky in public if you ask us!
Earlier this week, (Wednesday January 1) Anthony hijacked Ruby’s plans for Steph’s birthday. He insisted they all eat at The Hide instead of having the beef wellington Ruby had planned.
Ruby downed the Champagne and got drunker and drunker. Cain and Moira joined them and Anthony presented Steph with a birthday gift of a necklace. As he tried to put it on her, Ruby snapped at him touching her daughter. She insisted she would put the necklace on and then broke it. Upset Steph asked her mum to leave: Anthony won again.
He then followed Ruby home and told her he had ruined Steph’s birthday. Ruby blamed her father and he told her to take responsibility for her actions. He told her her meltdown was clearly due to guilt over Cain. Ruby couldn’t fight back, though she tried. He then insisted he would look her after leaving Ruby even more distraught.
By Friday he was playing the doting father and grandfather, fighting Ruby’s corner with Steph. He makes our skin crawl.
Anthony needs to go – soon (Credit: ITV)
Fans react to Anthony in Emmerdale
He is so so awful, that viewers are struggling to watch him on screen. Just as we’ve got rid of Tom, in comes another, equally vile, if not worse human being to make watching Emmerdale uncomfortable.
“He needs to go it all needs to come out!” said one fan on social media. Another added: “Please let him get exposed for what he did to her when she was a kid. Vile excuse for a human being.”
Someone else was willing to switch off the soap over it: “I never comment on soaps but omg I don’t think I can watch any longer. Ruby’s dad is a manipulative busybody and I do not like him at all I know he’s playing a character, but playing it to well for my liking.”
“Can’t stand this storyline. Stopped watching EastEnders because it got depressing and Emmerdale is just as bad. All doom and gloom,” agreed one more.
A fifth wrote: “He needs to go. Gives me the creeps!!” And a six said: “The sooner this character goes the better, he’s absolutely vile!”
Others compared him to Tom. “We have another master manipulator, Tom’s out and Anthony is in.”
“They get rid of Tom and now this creep is in the show! How long is this going to go on for?” asked another.
Anthony’s exit can’t come soon enough. Although Ruby’s story is an important story to tell so we’re interested to see what direction this takes – and whether justice can finally be done for poor Ruby.

The new year doesn’t start well for Ruby (Credit: ITV)
1. Ruby can’t cope
Ruby has been struggling with her dad’s presence ever since he arrived. Viewers know why after a flashback revealed he had sexually abused her as a child. He is also potentially Steph’s father. However, no one in Emmerdale knows the truth and she is battling to keep it hidden.
But now he’s announced he’s staying, and he’s moving into The Mill with the family. Anthony knows about Ruby’s hook-up with Cain and so can pretty much do what he likes or else he will reveal all. The villagers all think he’s wonderful after he donated £5000 to the fund to find missing April and Ruby is completely trapped.
So she does what only she can do: downs Champagne to block it all out. But will it help?
2. A quiet one for Cain and Moira in Emmerdale spoilers for tonight
Facing an uncertain future, Cain and Moira want to have a quiet lunch together. She has a hospital appointment tomorrow to go over her radiotherapy treatment.
Both hiding their nerves, they book a quiet meal just the two of them ahead of the appointment. Will Cain be able to hide his guilt through it though?

3. Jacob and Sarah try again
After their aborted lunch date thanks to Leyla’s meddling, Jacob realises he has to put things right. He apologises to Sarah for standing her up.
The pair reconcile and she agrees to another date. But will Leyla step in and ruin this one too?

4. The anniversary of Heath’s death hits hard in Emmerdale spoilers
It’s been one year since Heath Hope went joyriding with his sister Cathy and friend Angelica King. Angelica was driving and crashed the car, leaving Heath dead. Angelica has just been released from serving her time for causing his death.
As Heath’s anniversary arrives, it hits Bob hard. Especially with April still missing, he is unable to cope. Breaking down, will anyone support him?

This week’s Emmerdale review is sadly lacking in festive cheer! Because it really wasn’t a merry Christmas for anyone in the village. There was death, a lot of secrets, quite a bit of shouting, and generally a lot of drama!
Which is just the way we like it.
Here’s what we thought of the Christmas action in our Emmerdale review.
Joe’s back with a sassy new haircut, a secret illness, and a vendetta! (Credit: ITV)
Joe Tate’s back!
The big news this Christmas in Emmerdale was the return of Joe Tate! YAY! It was revealed that Joe was the person pulling the strings, as Will tried to escape Peter’s plan. We were delighted by the news as it always felt like there was some unfinished business when it came to Joe.
And he’s certainly come back with some secrets. He’s clearly not well and we’re desperate to know what that’s all about.
We want to know why he’s back, obviously. And why he’s turned his revenge plot from Charity to Kim (also, what’s with all these younger men harbouring hatred for Kim for YEARS? Bit odd, isn’t it?)
We’ve got a lot of questions and we know we’re going to enjoy finding out the answers.
Will died on Christmas Day (Credit: ITV)
Emmerdale review: Will’s dead (sob!)
And as if that wasn’t enough drama up at Home Farm, shortly after Will and Kim had renewed their vows, and Joe had strolled back in, Will was struck down by a heart attack.
He was struggling with chest pain, but Kim wasn’t sure he was being genuine. And in a brilliant bit of cyclical storytelling, she powdered her nose while watcihng him on the floor – just as she did with Frank.
BUT, Joe’s arrival made Kim realise Will was being truthful and snapped her into action. She desperately tried to save her husband’s life, while they waited for the paramedics, but there was nothing they – or the professionals – could do. It was a really clever callback to Kim’s evil takedown of Frank, except this time Kim was devastated. It felt like karma for her actions all those years ago.
We’re going to miss Will but we have a feeling his death is just the beginning of some even bigger drama – and it’s not looking good for Kim.
Ruby’s having a really hard time (Credit: ITV)
We’re rooting for Ruby
Emmerdale’s had some pretty sinister baddies over the years (not you, Jade), but we reckon Anthony is the most evil of all.
Poor Ruby is clearly terrified of her father. Her reaction to being left alone with him on Christmas Day was shocking and we can see why.
He’s so charming to everyone else, while making sly, pointed comments to Ruby as she quivers in fright, that it makes us shudder.
We were delighted when Cain interrupted Anthony tormenting Ruby mentally, and when he realised how scared poor Ruby was. We also loved him confiding in Ruby about his own abuse at the hands of Shadrach.
This awful storyline isn’t easy to watch, but it’s being handled brilliantly and we’re looking forward to seeing how it plays out. We’re totally invested in Ruby’s torment now. Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby, is so clever in showing us every side of her character, even when Ruby’s friends and family can’t see it. We’re all in with this one.
April’s gone off the rails (Credit: ITV)
April’s missing in our Emmerdale review
It’s early days in April’s story, but so far, this drama doesn’t have us gripped. At the moment, everyone just seems to be doing a lot of shouting and finger pointing.
No one – not even the police – seems to be thinking clearly or rationally about where April could have gone, or why. It’s infuriating and frustrating. DS Foy would have found April by now, that’s all we’re saying.
