Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly reaches out to fans over Anthony actor Nicholas Day: ‘We all need a little bit of protection’

Emmerdale actress Beth Cordingly has reached out to fans on social media over Nicholas Day, the actor playing her dad, Anthony Fox.

Viewers know Anthony is a vile man who sexually abused Ruby when she was just 14. His rapes resulted in the birth of her daughter Steph when she was 16.

But in real life, Beth insists Nicholas is a “gem”.

Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly issues message to fans on social media over Anthony actor Nicholas Day

Writing on her Instagram page, Beth addressed her followers. She said: “In case anyone is under any illusions I just want to stress what a beautiful man Nick Day is, in real life. We were very lucky to have an actor of his calibre and talent playing my father, Anthony, in Emmerdale.”

The actress then continued: “It wasn’t an easy role for anyone to take on and he found playing this person extremely challenging.

“I loved working with Nick, we all did. It was an emotional experience requiring a lot of trust and a lot of love. He’s a gem.”

The Ruby Fox-Miligan star urged her followers to be kind. “If you see him in the street please remember he’s NOT Anthony. I’m sure you all will – so forgive me for sounding patronising – I just wanted to say. Sometimes, as actors, we need a little bit of protection when we put ourselves out there telling difficult stories that need to be told.”

Fans and other co-stars were quick to agree with Beth, with Amy Walsh (Tracy Robinson) commenting: “Ah, what a gent! I had the honour of a couple of scenes with him! Lovely man.”

A fan wrote: “He really did play his part well, right down to the crazed look in his eyes in some scenes, I’d love to see him in a Shakespeare play, think he’d be awesome in one.”

“If an actor is really hated you know they’ve played a blinder… it’s a very powerful storyline which made my skin crawl…. He’s fantastic! I hope people remember he’s only acting the part… you both deserve an award,” agreed another one.

One more added: “So nice of you to say this. I echo what many have said. I hated Anthony, he made my skin crawl. Proving what a fantastic and brave actor Nick Day is, it can’t be easy to play a character like this. Another hard hitting storyline done well by Emmerdale.”

Praise for Emmerdale’s Beth Cordingly and Nicholas Day

In fact, both Beth and Nicholas have come in for huge praise during this hard-hitting storyline. Nicholas has created one of the most vile villains ever to grace our screens.

And the scenes in which Ruby confronted her dad left fans in no doubt what a star Beth is.

One fan wrote: “Beth Cordingly is a phenomenal talent. ITV are so lucky to have her as Ruby!”

Another praised: “Beth Cordingly is award-worthy on Emmerdale this week. May Ruby remain at the centre of the show forever.”

“Give Beth Cordingly all of the awards. This is a very dark, dark storyline, even for a soap. And she has been amazing,” another fan commented.

  • Aaron Dingle: the truth about his abuse by his dad, Gordon, as he punishes evil Anthony Fox

Aaron Dingle: the truth about his abuse by his dad, Gordon, as he punishes evil Anthony Fox

Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale has personal history of sexual abuse after his own dad, Gordon Livesy, subjected him to it as a child.

So now he has cornered abuser Anthony Fox at Caleb’s depot he wants answers over his treatment of Ruby Fox-Miligan. Although Aaron has not been told anything directly, he knows exactly what Anthony is – and how he’s lying to cover it up.

Viewers will remember that Aaron recently opened up to boyfriend John Sugden about his childhood abuse. And when the awful truth about who had raped Ruby dawned on Chas, it was because of her own experience helping son Aaron fight for justice.

So what happened with Aaron and his dad in Emmerdale, and where is his abuser Gordon now?

    Aaron is concerned in Emmerdale

    Aaron’s troubled childhood

Aaron was a troubled youngster. He had a rocky relationship with his mum, Chas, and grew up with his dad and his wife, Sandra.

His regular visits to Emmerdale usually brought drama but Aaron eventually moved to the village and started to repair his relationship with Chas.

As a teenager, Aaron struggled with his sexuality. He tried to kiss his best friend Adam Barton, but then got involved with Adam’s sister Holly.

Adam wasn’t keen on the romance, but not because he cared about his best mate’s sexuality. Instead he told Aaron he thought he was gay, and he didn’t want him using his sister.

    Aaron and Jackson

Realising Adam could be right, Aaron broke up with Holly and started going to a gay bar which is where he met Jackson Walsh (played by Marc Silcock, who had been in Emmerdale previously as Bob Hope’s son, Josh).

Meanwhile, Aaron’s surrogate dad, Paddy, was concerned that the one-time troubled young man was sneaking around. He uncovered Aaron’s secret and in return, Aaron beat Paddy up!

But Aaron eventually accepted he was gay and started a relationship with Jackson. Though their happiness didn’t last as Jackson was paralysed in an accident and later took his own life.

Aaron Dingle abused by his dad in Emmerdale

After a LOT of drama, Aaron finally got together with Robert Sugden and the pair seemed made for one another.

As they settled down together, Aaron felt secure enough to reveal another part of his childhood. He told Robert that he’d been sexually abused by his dad, Gordon.

He revealed it started after his dad had lost his job and Aaron was misbehaving. Gordon did it to teach Aaron a lesson. He told Aaron he wasn’t to tell anyone or else he would do it again.

Things got better when Gordon married Sandra Flaherty and they had daughter, Liv. But when Aaron once again got into trouble at school, Gordon raped him again, to bring him into line. It happened a third time when Aaron rowed with Sandra and Gordon wanted to punish him.

Aaron later went to live with Chas and didn’t see Gordon again until he was an adult. When Chas and Gordon started dating again, Aaron began self-harming. His cuts got infected and that’s when he revealed what had happened to him as a child.

With Robert’s support, Aaron bravely faced up to his childhood trauma. Gordon tried to claim Aaron was suffering from false memory syndrome and making it all up. But Aaron stayed strong and told his mum what had happened.

Chas went round to confront Gordon and though he denied it at first, he eventually turned aggressive and confessed. Chas told Cain, who tried to kill Gordon. But Chas and Aaron stopped him and Aaron reported his father to the police for the abuse.

    Gordon continued to manipulate

Gordon was charged, though he denied it. So Aaron was forced to go to court and give evidence against his abusive father.

Wanting to make sure the case was watertight, Robert paid a young lad named Ryan to lie that Gordon has assualted him too. Gordon was sure Chas was behind the set-up and violently slammed her against a wall. Aaron was furious about the deal and made sure Ryan retracted his statement.

Gordon was pleased as it made his case all-the-more stronger. He had been suffering from cancer and was using the side-effects to look frail and it got him released on bail at his plea hearing.

After reconnecting with daughter Liv, he started using her to spy on Aaron and get dirt on her brother. But Liv wisened up and told Aaron. He confronted his dad and told him he would see him in court.

    Aaron in court
Though Gordon was found guilty, Aaron feels justice wasn’t done (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)

Was Aaron denied justice in Emmerdale after his abuse by his dad?

In court, Liv turned on her dad and helped secure the conviction. Gordon was sent to jail for 18 years, Aaron changed his name to Dingle and tried to move on with his life.

However, during the party to celebrate his name change, the police arrived to inform Aaron his dad had been found dead in his cell. Although it was believed Robert had paid to have him killed it turned out Gordon took his own life by hanging himself.

Aaron has always considered him to have escaped justice, in a way, which gives him a strong motive for murdering Anthony.

Emmerdale spoilers: Laurel decides to confess after Chas admits ‘lie’ over Anthony

In Emmerdale spoilers for next week, Laurel Thomas decides to confess the truth about her attack on Anthony after Chas backtracks on her earlier claim about him being a danger to children. Having figured out that Anthony raped Ruby as a teenager, a horrified Chas blurted out the truth to Nicola, fearful that he might try something with her daughter, Angelica.

And, horrified to hear that Anthony could be a danger to Angelica, Nicola had confronted him, causing him to turn violent.

And, as Anthony grew forceful with Nicola, Laurel leapt to the rescue – whacking Anthony with a candlestick. Anthony then disappeared, leading Laurel to wonder whether she had killed the old man.

But, as Chas acts to cover for Ruby, Nicola begins to wonder whether she might have attacked an innocent man. Can Nicola talk her out of going to the police?

  • Emmerdale spoilers: Caleb confronts Anthony over his abuse and drives him away

Emmerdale spoilers: Caleb confronts Anthony over his abuse and drives him away

The truth about Anthony is out and Caleb is out for revenge in Emmerdale spoilers for next week.

For a while now Caleb has been in the dark about Anthony’s vile actions towards Ruby. But now the truth is out and his anger is evident.

If there’s one thing the Dingles are – it’s protective about their own. And so when Anthony turns up dead – who is the culprit?

Viewers are finally getting their wish for Anthony to be gone. But his exit from the show turns someone from the village into a murderer.

    Who kills Anthony? (Credit: ITV)

Caleb wants revenge for Ruby in Emmerdale spoilers

At the start of the week we see a flash-forward that shows a bloody human tooth lying on the floor of Caleb’s Depot.

Having kicked Anthony out, Caleb and Ruby are trying to put their relationship back on track. But Steph remains in the dark about the truth.

The news spreads throughout the Dingles. Cain is also left horrified to hear about the news – especially after his recent concerns about Anthony.

Aaron also becomes wary whenever he spots a tense conversation between Ruby and Anthony. But then Caleb pulls up beside them and orders his vile father-in-law to get into his car.

While we don’t know exactly what he has planned, we’re sure it’s nothing good.

News starts to spread about Anthony’s vile actions. (Credit: ITV)

    Who killed Anthony?

Completely unaware of anything that is going on, Steph grows confused and concerned about Anthony failing to meet her.

Not long after Caleb drives off, a gunshot is heard and Anthony is found dead. We know Caleb got his hands on a gun, so did he decide murder was the way to get revenge for his wife?

To make matters worse, Anthony’s tooth remains on the floor of Caleb’s depot, so is that where he was brought to die?

Could Laurel and Nicola have something to do with Anthony’s murder? During the week Chas warns Nicola that she shouldn’t leave Angelica alone with Anthony as he isn’t trusted around kids.

So when Nicola demands he leaves the house, things turn physically threatening. But as Anthony gets aggressive, Laurel arrives in time to hit him over the head with a candlestick.

Nicola then visits the hospital to see if Anthony has been admitted, but this just leaves a nurse suspicious.

Whether it is Caleb who pulls the trigger remains to be seen. But we do know there are a lot of people who want rid of Anthony – just like the Emmerdale viewers.

  • Ruby’s abuse trauma has us gripped, but Marlon’s too much – OPINION

Ruby’s abuse trauma has us gripped, but Marlon’s too much – OPINION

Our Emmerdale review this week is mostly about just one thing, because the revelation that Ruby Fox-Miligan’s dad, Anthony, is the father of her daughter, Steph, has made every other story pale into insignificance.

We’re still reeling about this huge storyline and we’re wondering what will happen next.

So here’s what we thought of everything that happened this week in our Emmerdale review.

Ruby couldn't face opening the results and decided she was better not knowing (Credit: ITV)
Ruby couldn’t face opening the results and decided she was better not knowing but Caleb found them anyway (Credit: ITV)

    Ruby Fox-Miligan’s torment in Emmerdale

Can we take a moment to appreciate the absolute brilliance of Beth Cordingly (who plays Ruby) this week? Her performance has been amazing. And that goes hand in hand with Nicholas Day, who plays Anthony, as the creepiest, most sinister villain to ever walk the streets of the village.

When Anthony was watching Ruby sleep in the B&B we were almost weeping with the tension of it all. And when Ruby woke up, terrified, we felt even worse! And then she stood up to her abusive father, and we were cheering. There’s no doubt this storyline is a rollercoaster of emotions!

Ruby telling Caleb was also a masterpiece. The way she held it together as he was gently asking questions, before completely breaking down, really tugged at our heartstrings.

We’re heartbroken for Ruby, and for Steph when she inevitably finds out about her real parentage, and we want to see Anthony face justice. Which sort of leads to the second point of our Emmerdale review…

    Caleb finds the DNA results
Of course Caleb’s made this all about himself (Credit: ITV)

Caleb making it all about him – again

“This is not your battle,” Ruby warned Caleb as she stopped him hunting down Anthony. Ruby’s spent her whole life trying to protect daughter Steph from her rapist father, and she isn’t planning to stop any time soon. She knew that if Caleb went storming out into the village, shouting about what Anthony did, the repercussions would be enormous.

So what did Caleb do? Oh he just got himself a gun. Brilliant. What on EARTH are you thinking, Caleb. Seriously, is there one man in Emmerdale who isn’t oozing with toxic masculinity and totally self-obsessed?

A smug Anthony points in Ruby's face on Emmerdale
We want Anthony to pay for what he did to Ruby in Emmerdale – but in court (Credit: ITV)

What’s next for Ruby and Anthony in Emmerdale?

Anyway, Caleb’s massive mistake aside, we find we are slightly worried about what’s going to happen next. We know Anthony’s going to end up dead, which we’re not totally happy about. We’d much rather he faced justice and the consequences of his actions.

We’re very worried about how Steph will react. We’re worried this huge, grim, awful storyline won’t be given the attention it deserves. But most of all we can’t wait to see next week’s episodes!

Marlon and Rhona on the sofa
Marlon’s just being horrible to everyone (Credit: ITV)

    Emmerdale review: Marlon’s too much

Though the enormity of Ruby’s story is all we can think about right now, there were some other things happening in the village this week.

And of course, the biggest one is that April is still missing. And we get that her dad Marlon is worried about her. We do. We understand. But OMG does he need to be SO horrible about it? We’re not sure we can cope with much more of this. He is being AWFUL and we’re not enjoying it. We wouldn’t blame Rhona one bit if she packed up Leo and Invisible Ivy and went off to be with April instead.

And while we’re on the subject of April…

    Emmerdale Mary in the pub
Mary could be useful if she didn’t spend all her time on the nursery run (Credit: ITV)

    Give Mary something to do!

It’s hard to remember now that all she does is pick up Ivy from nursery, make sandwiches and call people ‘poppet’ but when Mary first arrived, she had a backstory. And that backstory was that she had been a hotshot, hard-hitting journalist.

And we’re thinking, that maybe – just maybe – this could be handy. What with April being missing. Possibly Mary could put some of those journalist skills into use now, perhaps call up a few former colleagues, drum up a bit of interest in April’s story?

No? Oh well, just an idea. Now if you could pick up Ivy from nursery, Mary, that would be great.

    Wendy at the doctor surgery
Don’t let the door hit you on your way out, Wendy (Credit: ITV)

    Emmerdale review: Wendy’s gone!

We have hated Wendy Posner since she first arrived in Emmerdale (no reflection on Susan Cookson, who played the fake nurse – she’s terrific). So we are very glad to see the back of her. Her departure from the village was, well, uneventful, and she’s off to fake her way into a new nursing job elsewhere.

Emmerdale has a chequered history with nurses. There’s been Emma Barton, who kidnapped her ex-husband and killed her own son. Meena Jutla, the Dales’ serial killer, and now whiny Wendy, who granted wasn’t as evil as Emma or Meena, but who wasn’t actually a real nurse.

Is it wrong that we’re a bit excited to find out what dramas will arrive along with the next nurse to move to the village?!

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Caleb finally stepped up as Ruby broke down

Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly needs all the awards after her performance tonight as she broke down and confessed everything to Caleb. Meanwhile, Caleb was determined to avenge his wife, but at what cost?

Elsewhere Wendy left town – and not before time.

Caleb finally stepped up to support Ruby

Caleb wanted to go after Anthony, but Chas persuaded him not to. But her brother was torturing himself over not having known or picked up on it – er we have been telling you Caleb.

Meanwhile, Anthony was gaslighting Steph telling her Ruby was losing her grip and her mental health.

Caleb called Ruby over to talk. He gently told her what he and Chas had worked out as Ruby sat calmly and in silence. “Whatever you tell me, I will believe I promise,” Caleb told her. And then her facade fell as she loudly sobbed and wailed like a baby. Caleb grabbed her and promised he had her now.

Ruby called Caleb her saviour and he's determined to live up to that name (Credit: ITV)

Caleb wants to save Ruby again

After she composed herself she relived everything as Caleb listened. Ruby admitted she had tried to tell her mum, who had dismissed her as a fantasist.

The secret had destroyed any relationship Ruby could have had with Steph as she did all she could to keep her away from her grandparents. That included sending her to boarding school

Ruby told Caleb he had saved her. Caleb told her he loved her, but he also had a visit from a mystery person, delivering a mystery package containing a gun, that he lied to her about.

Beth Cordingly was phenomenal in these scenes, fragile, vulnerable, yet strong and firm about not wanting Steph to ever find out. She knocked it out of the park.

    Wendy left Emmerdale tonight

Although Wendy was sad about leaving, she was sure it was the right thing to do. Bob was ranting and raving about Wendy’s deceit when she arrived to tell him she was leaving and say goodbye. Bob was shell-shocked.

Wendy then went to see Rhona and Marlon and confessed what she’d done. They were not particularly forgiving either – no real wonder, especially as she wouldn’t say why she was being blackmailed, so we can take from that she’s not planning to give up being a fake nurse.

Victoria and Harry, as well as Cathy, turned out to bid her goodbye. Liam and Manpreet also wished her well as Bob watched from afar.

Later, Bob drowned his sorrows and Brenda consoled him. He admitted he and Wendy had been drifting apart for months. But he then drunkenly lunged at Brenda and things went very sour. She did forgive him and they agreed to put it behind them.

    Also tonight…

Marlon was up and out of bed and bouyed by news of a sighting of April. However it came to nothing and they felt helpless and hopeless again. Something tells us this pattern will continue for quite some time.

Emmerdale fans praise ‘phenomenal’ performances as Ruby confronts Anthony and Chas works out the truth

After last night’s episode (January 16), fans have praised ‘phenomenal’ performances by Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby in Emmerdale.

In scenes that were hard to watch for many, Ruby bravely confronted her evil dad over the sexual abuse she faced as a child. And heartbreakingly revealed that she even tried to tell her mum.

Over the last few months Ruby has been living through hell, as her dad came back into her life. It was then revealed to viewers that Anthony sexually abused her when she was younger.

    Ruby in Emmerdale confronted Anthony

Since then, fans have been desperate for Anthony to get his comeuppance, with viewers claiming he may be the most evil character the show has ever had.

In eerie scenes, Anthony stood over his daughter while she was sleeping in the B&B. When Ruby horrifyingly woke up to him looming over her, she decided to confront her dad over what he did to her.

When Anthony tried to manipulate and gaslight her, Ruby stood her ground. And as Anthony told her she had no proof, Ruby gave him a huge shock.

She told him she had a DNA test that proves Steph is not Caleb’s daughter, and it would prove that he was. However, she also told him his disgusting secret is safe because she doesn’t want Steph to ever know the truth.

After the powerful scenes aired, fans immediately took to social media to praise Beth Cordingly’s performance as Ruby in Emmerdale.

A viewer shared how this powerful storyline has changed their opinions on Ruby’s character.

They wrote: “I have to admit that I didn’t take to Ruby at all when she arrived in Emmerdale. But now she is one of my favourite characters. Beth Cordingly is playing the current storyline brilliantly!”

Emmerdale has just released a brand new trailer for next week’s episodes. And it seems the time is up for Anthony, as someone in the village murders him.

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Ruby confronted her dad as Caleb realised the terrible truth

Emmerdale tonight saw the fallout from the DNA results as Ruby finally confronted her dad. Elsewhere, Caleb was on the hunt for Steph’s real father and after a confrontation with Rob, the penny finally dropped for him.

Meanwhile, Marlon was taken to hospital, but with April still missing he wouldn’t give up the search. And, Wendy made a decision about her future.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Thursday January 16

The awful truth revealed in Emmerdale tonight

Caleb and Ruby both struggled to cope

Ruby woke up in the B&B having nightmares over her dad’s abuse. She demanded Bob get her a whiskey for breakfast.

Meanwhile, Steph was trying to get to the bottom of her parents’ split. Caleb wasn’t saying anything and then Steph found a drunk Ruby in the shop. She called her mum a poisonous bitch and told her to get out of their lives. Ouch.

Caleb went to confide in Cain and Cain even gave him a hug. Yes, that’s right, Cain hugged his brother. But then Cain went in to bat for Ruby, which Caleb didn’t really understand. Cain encouraged his brother to try to forgive Ruby, however Steph was totally against a reconciliation and talked Caleb out of seeing his wife.

    Terrified Ruby confronted her dad

But if he had walked in to the B&B, he’d have seen Anthony had snuck into Ruby’s room while she was sleeping. He moved her hair from her face before waiting for her to wake up. “Daddy’s here for you darling,” he told her, sickeninglyas he surveyed her sleeping body.

Ruby was absolutely terrified when she woke up and cowered in the corner. She confronted him over what he did to her. Anthony twisted everything, gaslighting her that she was hysterical and rambling like a drunk woman. He gave her water and told her to sleep it off, but when he touched her hand she threw the water at him.

Ruby directly confronted him and told him she was 14 the first time and admitted she had told her mum what he’d been doing to her. Her mum did not believe her, though. Anthony insisted she had it all wrong as Ruby told him: “You raped me.”

Anthony would not admit it, he said he just wanted her to feel special and he loves her very much. He told her it was all lies and she couldn’t prove otherwise. But she said she could get proof: Caleb is not Steph’s father and a DNA test would prove that Anthony is. That shocked her vile dad into silence and although he tried to talk her out of it, he realised he was caught. But Ruby told him the secret was safe as she couldn’t risk Steph finding out.

Chas worked it out and told Caleb the awful truth

Back at home Caleb had confided in Chas and told her he had tracked Rob down. Chas confessed she knew and that Ruby had been raped. And Caleb told her he’d called Rob round on the pretence of throwing some work his way.

Chas told him to call it off, but when he wouldn’t she refused to leave them alone. Rob had no idea what he’d walked into as Caleb threw him against a wall and insisted Rob would pay for what he did to Ruby.

But Rob told Caleb he was gay and had never slept with Ruby. As he said he and Ruby spent so much time together because she was afraid of her dad, the penny finally dropped for Chas.

But not for Caleb, who still didn’t get it. So Chas spelt it out: Ruby was really scared of Anthony because he had sexually abused her and he fathered Steph.

Marlon was very ill in Emmerdale tonight

It wasn’t much lighter anywhere else in the Dales. Marlon was coughing up a lung as he panicked about April some more. He later collapsed in the pub and Paddy and Ross insisted he go to hospital. Marlon has a chest infection in both lungs and needs antibiotics. He was warned he would definitely have another stroke if he carried on like this. Marlon agreed not to go back into Leeds for today. Baby steps, we suppose.

Ross took over the search and covered Marlon’s area as well as his own. But Marlon was still stressed and so Rhona decided to offer a £1000 reward for information on April. Mary was totally against it, but Rhona did it anyway. Apparently she can afford it.

    Wendy confessed in Emmerdale tonight

Wendy went round to see Liam and confessed what she’d done to Rhona and Ella. Liam was less than sympathetic as Wendy explained she was being blackmailed her over her past.

Manpreet was called round and the truth was revealed to her. She was disgusted to find out about the lies and that Liam knew all along. Liam told Wendy they had to sack her.

Wendy then went round to see Ella and confessed. Ella thought it was revenge for the attack, but Wendy sobbed that it wasn’t. Ella refused to listen though and even Bob could barely look at her. He then told her he couldn’t be around her and told her to pack her bags and leave.

Wendy went to stay with Victoria who was furious, but offered her support. However Wendy said she was going to move in with son Luke and was leaving for good.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

Cain made a pledge to Moira

Moira confronted Cain and asked if he still fancied her – especially with bald patches (that no one else seems to be able to see with those lucious locks). But he insisted he did and things were left uneasily awkward between them again.

Later, while Moira was resting, Cain nestled in next to her, whispered that he still fancied her and he loved her. He promised to find a better way of showing it. But can he hide his guilt long enough to do it?

    Joe made some more moves

At Home Farm Kim was looking at a photo of Jamie and Millie feeling wistful. She quizzed Joe over Jamie and where he was and Joe said he would set up a meeting between them.

A power cut saw Joe call Noah for electrical advice. Noah fixed it all for him and Joe was impressed with his work. The two brothers bonded over a cup of tea and Joe told him what Ross had threatened. They decided to conduct a secret brotherly relationship to keep the peace. Later they put on show for Charity to convince her they were having nothing to do with each other.

  • Caleb finally realises the truth about Anthony, but as Ruby vows to keep her secret, here’s what happens next

Caleb finally realises the truth about Anthony, but as Ruby vows to keep her secret, here’s what happens next

The truth is out in Emmerdale! Caleb – with a bit of help from Chas – has worked out the truth about Ruby’s ordeal at the hands of her evil dad, Anthony.

In this evening’s episode, Chas, drawing on her own son Aaron’s awful experience with his dad, put two and two together.

As Ruby’s teenage best friend Rob revealed she was always scared of her father, realisation dawned for Chas.

Though Caleb was a bit slower to work it all out, Chas listened to what Rob was saying about how Caleb was the only lad in Ruby’s life back when they were teenagers.

“Who was she really scared of?” Chas asked Caleb as the horrible truth fell into place. “I think Anthony was abusing Ruby, and I think he fathered Steph.”

Caleb makes an awful discovery in Emmerdale

Evil Anthony also knows that he’s Steph’s dad – Ruby told him in a confrontation at the B&B. But she swore that she wasn’t going to tell anyone – ever – because she doesn’t want Steph to find out.

But now Caleb and Chas know, it’s only a matter of time before the whole family – and probably the rest of the village – finds out, too.

    So what will happen next?

    Anthony’s murdered!

Well! We don’t have long to wait for Anthony to get his comeuppance because by the end of next week’s episodes, he’ll be dead!

    But who’s killed him?

As the week begins we see a flashforward showing a human tooth, knocked out and bloodied, on the floor of the depot. YUCK.

Back the present, Anthony’s slept on the sofa at Laurel’s. When Chas spots him tutoring Angelica, she’s concerned. She warns Nicola that he’s not safe to be around teenage girls.

    The suspects line up

Nicola calls off the tutoring session and Anthony’s panic turns to anger as he worries that his secret’s out. Things get physical and he threatens Nicola – only for Laurel to dramatically whack him with a candlestick, leaving Anthony out cold!

Meanwhile, when Cain finds Chas upset in the backroom at the pub, he gets her to open up. But he’s shocked by what she tells him.

Aaron spots Anthony with Ruby, and realises how scared Ruby is of her dad – recognising his own experiences in her reactions.

And Caleb pulls up next to Anthony in his car and orders him to get in.

The next day, a shot rings out in the village, while Anthony’s nowhere to be seen. But it’s not until the following day when someone finds him dead.

Who is the killer? Could it really be Laurel? Or might it be someone closer to home?
