Assuming that Ruby had cheated on him years ago, Caleb kicked off – and kicked her out too. Ruby was devastated to learn that Steph is Anthony’s daughter. Heartbroken as she was, Ruby said nothing, leaving many viewers confused.
To many, Ruby should have revealed the truth to Caleb – that her father raped her as a teenager. The reality, however, is not nearly so simple.

‘Stop victim shaming’ demand Emmerdale fans as Ruby stays silent
Writing on social media, a number of Emmerdale fans defended Ruby’s choice not to tell Caleb, highlighting the terrible position she had been put in.
“She doesn’t tell him because she is protecting Steph. Don’t be so quick to judge and stop victim blaming. Ruby is suffering so much but she wants to protect her daughter from this nightmare. My heart goes out to Ruby she is a great character,” wrote one fan on Instagram.
“Why didn’t she just tell him?†Sadly this isn’t something that is so easy to tell. Esp if she’s been told time and time again that she wouldn’t be believed etc. Hopefully he does find out the truth soon though. Bless her,” said another.
“It’s awful for Ruby. I was shouting at the tv for her to tell Caleb even tho it’s obviously not an easy thing to tell,” a third sympathised.
“People blaming her over something she had no control over and say in,” wrote a fourth.

Heartbroken fans of Emmerdale have branded last night’s revelations a step too far – following confirmation of Ruby Fox-Miligan‘s worst fears, as DNA test results revealed that Anthony is indeed Steph’s biological father. Ruby was left reeling.
To make matters worse, it was Caleb who revealed the news, finding the results letter as he poked around in Ruby’s bag. She’d already decided not to open the letter, but the cat was out of the bag now.
And, assuming that she’d betrayed him, Caleb kicked her out, seemingly ending their marriage for good. Ruby was double-devastated, first as her worst fears came true, and then by the apparent collapse of her marriage.

Emmerdale fans slam ‘rank’ Ruby DNA results reveal
In the wake of last night’s bombshell (airing Wednesday, January 15), fans took to social media to share their thoughts. And many agreed that it was a simply too much.
“I’m really going to need there to be a ‘mix up’ with the test results, because this is rank. The story overall is good, but they could have told it without the whole mother/sister angle. Aside from shock value and drawing this out for months, what will it achieve? It’s just a big ick,” wrote one fan on Reddit.
“Bloody well said, a sick story, far too much for what is supposed to be light entertainment,” agreed another disgusted viewer.
“I can’t believe that the writers chose to make Anthony Steph’s biological father, instead of Caleb. Making them mother and daughter, as well as half-sisters, is just disgusting,” said a third.
“I hate it. I can cope with the story overall, but this just feels too much, and now we’re going to be stuck dragging it out for months,” another wrote.
Has Emmerdale gone too far?

Meanwhile on Emmerdale tonight, Chas puts two and two together
In Emmerdale spoilers tonight, Ruby feels lost and alone after last night’s events. Meanwhile, as Chas attempts to make sense of the situation, the penny finally drops.
Has she realised the truth about Ruby and Anthony?

Emmerdale tonight aired a sickening turn of events when it was revealed who Steph’s dad is. Ruby could barely contain her heartbreak and terror as Caleb ended their marriage. Has she lost everything?
Meanwhile, Ella became Wendy’s next target and Marlon’s health is deteriorating.
Here’s everything that happened in a particularly difficult episode of Emmerdale tonight, Wednesday January 15.
Steph’s father was revealed in Emmerdale tonight
Ruby couldn’t face opening the results and decided she was better not knowing (Credit: ITV)
Ruby decided not to open the DNA results
In the early hours of the morning Ruby agonised over the DNA results and it soon became clear she hadn’t opened them yet.
Meanwhile Anthony was still playing the knight-in-shining armour in the village, helping Arthur with his homework.
Steph decided her mum must be going through the menopause and that’s why she’s so sensitive. But Ruby stormed out.
She went round to see Chas and confessed she was unable to look at the results. She decided she did not want to know and she was going to rip the results up.

Caleb is not Steph’s dad
But back at home, Caleb had a headache and went looking for painkillers in Ruby’s handbag – where he found the DNA results letter. Shaken, he sent Steph off to their meeting alone and sat staring at the envelope.
When Ruby returned, Caleb held out the results letter and asked for answers. “Steph’s not mine,” he shockingly revealed. “0 percent probablity of paternity.”
We feel sick. We genuinely didn’t think Emmerdale would go there.
Ruby also felt horrified as she broke down, struggling to breathe. She begged him to believe she didn’t know for sure and that it didn’t have to change anything.
Ruby was destroyed when Caleb kicked her out (Credit: ITV)
Caleb ended his marriage – but Ruby didn’t confess
Caleb went ballistic, but still Ruby didn’t tell him what really happened. He wanted to know who Steph’s dad was, but Ruby wouldn’t tell him. He questioned whether it was Rob – or whether she slept around so much even she didn’t know. Ruby begged him to leave it because in every way it mattered Caleb is Steph’s dad.
Caleb told her there was no way back for them and threw her out. He then told Steph they had split up and it was definitely for good. But he couldn’t bring himself to tell her the truth about her dad.
Poor Ruby was desperate to keep her family together as she watched Caleb, Steph and Anthony looking close. But she also now has to deal with the consequences of what the DNA results mean.
And she must now confess. She has no choice or else she will lose everything.
Ella was devastated to see her secrets exposed in the paper (Credit: ITV)
Wendy betrayed Ella in Emmerdale tonight
The Hotten Courier had published a story on Ella’s past – we’re looking at you Wendy. They say Ella could be responsible for April’s disappearance.
Ella decided she would go to the journalist and offer to do an interview in exchange for the identity of the person who’d given them the details. Wendy was praised by Ella for being there for her – what a joke.
The journalist then turned up again wanting some more gossip. But would Wendy give in?
Also in Emmerdale tonight…
Marlon is struggling (Credit: ITV)
Marlon is not well
Rhona was worried sick about Marlon as he went back out to search for April. Laurel offered to accompany him. And all the searching made Marlon forget about picking up Leo.
Marlon is clearly struggling and unwell, but he is carrying on, not listening to reason.
Moira is worried about her sex life
Things were a bit awkward between Moira and Cain as she prepared for her second radiotherapy appointment. Vanessa accompanied Moira to her appointment, where Vanessa confided she and Suzy don’t have time to ‘be’ together any more – do we sense trouble in paradise for Vanessa and Suzy?
Moira also confided her and Cain have stalled a bit in that department – Cain no longer wants to rip her clothes off because of her tumour. You can see his point, he’s trying to look after her, but she thinks he doesn’t find her sexy any more. She has noticed something has shifted between them – so how much long can Cain keep his guilty secret?

Viewers know that Ruby was worried that Steph wasn’t Caleb’s daughter, and could in fact have been fathered by her own dad, Anthony. Because we also know that Anthony raped Steph when she was a teenager.
But surely, we all thought, surely Anthony being Steph’s dad would be a step too far?
Unfortunately, though, we were wrong.

The news is out about Steph’s father
In tonight’s episode, Caleb read the words “Zero per cent chance of paternity” and our hearts sank.
Because frankly this hard-hitting, brutal storyline is grim enough, without adding this extra twist.
We were hoping that the very fact of Ruby getting a DNA test would be enough for the truth to come out. We had our fingers crossed that Steph would turn out to be Caleb’s daughter. And we thought he’d twig something was going on and Ruby would reveal the awful secret she’d been keeping.
But clearly that’s not happening. Now we know Steph’s dad is also her grandad and it’s so huge we’re struggling to get our heads round it.
Will Caleb support Ruby? (Credit: ITV)
Grim storyline
Of course Emmerdale has explored sexual abuse before. Aaron Dingle was abused by his father, Gordon Livesey, when he was a child. Aaron recently opened up to his new boyfriend John Sugden about the lifelong scars Gordon’s abuse has left.
It’s a dark subject, there’s no doubt.
Dark enough, in fact.
Incest and abuse are bleak topics for a soap to cover. We have no doubt Emmerdale will handle this well. Beth Cordingly, who plays Ruby, has already proved many times over that she has the acting chops to absolutely nail this story. The Emmerdale writers are experienced in covering tough ideas.
But could this be a case of just because you can, doesn’t mean you should?
It’s only a matter of time before Steph finds out the truth (Credit: ITV)
A twist too far?
Adding Steph into the mix of this story gives it a further twist. One that we think is a twist too far.
Ruby’s spent her life trying to protect her daughter, but of course these secrets never stay secret in soap, so it’s only a matter of time before Steph finds out the shocking truth about her biological dad.
And that has huge ramifications for her future. Plus there’s the mental trauma involved in Steph having to rewrite her whole family history and her relationship with her mother.
Ruby’s story and its inter-generational impact, has enough to it to be a six-part Sunday-night drama. We’re worried that with the speed and scope of Emmerdale – as with all soaps – this enormous, bleak, heartbeaking story won’t have the time and space to be properly explored.
We’re really invested in Ruby’s story, we want to see Anthony face justice (we’re not on board with the news that he will be murdered – but our feelings on that twist are for another time!) and we want the Fox-Miligan family to heal.

Spotting them together, he pulls up and demands Anthony gets into his car. But what exactly is his plan?
Not long after, a gun shot is heard and one of Emmerdale’s most evil characters is found dead. While his bloody tooth is still on the floor of the Depot. Just what has happened? And when Steph wonders where her grandfather is, will his murder be discovered?

In Emmerdale spoilers for next week the vile truth about Anthony spreads, leaving Cain absolutely horrified.
Cain has been growing more and more suspicious of Anthony’s true nature. Not long ago he walked in on Ruby and her dad having an intense talk – where she aimed a knife at Anthony.
Since then he has been quietly asking about Anthony’s character. And while Ruby told him her dad was asking questions about their relationship, Cain didn’t believe this was the whole truth.
He even asked Caleb if Anthony could be harmful, but Caleb insisted that his father-in-law was dying and needed his family.

He’s not the only Dingle who is disgusted at Anthony, as Aaron is left feeling alarmed when he spots an intense conversation between Ruby and the evil man.
But Caleb drives up and forces Anthony into his car. What is his plan for his father-in-law?

One thing that is certain about Cain is that he is always going to protect his family. So when he hears the news – could he be driven to murder?
The revelation of Anthony’s actions cause a lot of villagers to want rid of him. Even Laurel hits him over the head with a candlestick!
So while we don’t know who has been the one to pull the trigger, we’re sure there will be plenty of drama to come in the Dales.

Our Emmerdale review this week is mostly just loads of questions, because there has been a LOT going on, and most of it has left us scratching our heads.
We’ve been left reeling at some of this week’s action and it’s left us looking for answers. Here’s what we thought in our Emmerdale review of the week.
Dawn interrupted Kim’s eulogy to accuse her of murder. (Credit: ITV)
The madness at Home Farm
Oh, where to start with this? At the beginning of the week Dawn was absolutely convinced that Will had been murdered by Kim. So convinced, in fact, that she stood up at Will’s funeral and accused Kim in front of the handful of mourners who’d bothered to show up. And then she went to the police, who immediately responded by arresting Kim at Will’s grave.
Meanwhile Dawn was even more determined to prove that Kim had murdered Will, so she drugged her with ketamine and screamed at her to admit what she’d done, while Kim hallucinated, then passed out and had a seizure.
And if that wasn’t enough, having realised she was wrong and been let off the hook for drugging her stepmum, Dawn then snogged Joe Tate who she hated about ten minutes earlier. Is it any wonder our heads are spinning?
But here’s the slightly surprising thing about all this craziness – we don’t hate it. Dawn kissing Joe immediately made her at least 500 times more interesting. And we’re quite keen to find out what’s up with Joe, who’s clearly very unwell.
But we said this Emmerdale review was full of questions and we meant it. Like what’s happened to Will’s phone with all those incriminating messages from financial-advisor Peter on it? Come to think of it, where is financial-advisor Peter? Has anyone told Rose that Will is dead?
We know Steph is 32 because she just had her birthday. It lasted two days. Everyone made a big old fuss about it.
But somehow Steph being 32 doesn’t seem to stop her behaving like a sulky, ungrateful teenager. She is so rude to her mother Ruby it makes us cringe, while she stamps her feet if anything doesn’t go her way.
We think it’s time she was sent to her room to think about her behaviour and if things carry on like this, it’ll be no screen time for a week.
Laurel has had a busy Christmas – apparently (Credit: ITV)
Where’s the Laurel action?
Laurel’s been up to all sorts recently. Her divorce came through. She thought about having a drink. She did have a drink. Then she called Marlon to help. She made a pass at Marlon… It’s all go in Laurel world.
Or so we’re told.
Because we’ve not seen any of this. It’s all happened off-screen. I mean, we’re not massively invested in Laurel’s life – not since the whole Charles thing which we’re still recovering from – but it would be nice to see it rather than just hear it second hand. And it’s got to be more exciting than Arthur’s maths homework.
Marlon’s appeal video went viral with awful results (Credit: ITV)
A pair of oddballs distracted Rhona at the vets, broke into the family home and went through April’s stuff, livestreaming their efforts as they went.
It was really quite shocking, but just like the Home Farm madness, it left us with a few questions. Like why Rhona didn’t call the police, and what happened to the cat they left behind.
And why – when we have watched every episode of Emmerdale for decades – did we not know there was a door directly from the vets into the cottage next door? And if we didn’t know, how did the true-crime weirdos?
Thankfully the vloggers legged it, but we’re not convinced they’ve really gone. Because if it’s true crime they’re after, Emmerdale can definitely keep them busy!
If they get a whiff of the skulduggery going on at Home Farm, or Angelica killing Heath, or Belle’s traumatic year, or Charity shooting Chloe’s gangster dad, or Kyle shooting Al, or Kerry and Amy burning down the factory and killing Tracy’s dad, or anything to do with the Fox-Miligans, they’ll be hanging around for the next five years.

In Emmerdale spoilers, Caleb finds the results of Ruby’s DNA test, revealing who Steph’s father really is. With Ruby still tormented over her fears that Anthony may be Steph’s father, she comes to a momentous decision regarding the results letter.
However, when Caleb stumbles across the letter before she can read the results for herself, it seems as though the truth has finally been revealed. Will Ruby reveal the extent of her trauma to Caleb and her family?

Ruby agnonises over the DNA test results
Ruby returns home with a letter containing the DNA test results. Having not yet opened it, she is anxious about what news it contains.
When Caleb returns home unexpectedly, she stuffs the letter into her handbag. The next morning, after a sleepless night, Ruby finally tears open the envelope, ready to read the contents.
However, she’s interrupted yet again, when Steph comes downstairs. Overwhelmed, Ruby seeks guidance from Chas, who tries to reassure her that Caleb won’t turn his back on Steph – even if the results confirm the worst.
Will Chas realise the truth about Ruby’s pain?

Caleb stumbles across the truth
Ruby decides that it would be better to destroy the test results without looking at them. However, back at home, Caleb suffers a headache and goes looking for painkillers in Ruby’s bag.
He’s shocked when he finds an envelope with the return address of a DNA testing company printed on the back. Returning home, Ruby is horrified to find her bag open, and Caleb holding the results in his hand.
What do the results reveal – and will their marriage survive?

Kim Tate in Emmerdale has done some pretty rotten stuff in her time. Watching husband Frank die at her feet, sending another husband – Steve – to jail for a crime she masterminded, faking her own death to punish son Jamie, burying Will alive… need we go on?
So it’s not really surprising that Dawn is convinced Kim had something to do with her dad Will’s death on Christmas Day.
Or that Will left Dawn the video pointing the finger at his wife.
But when it comes to crimes, we think Kim’s guilty of something even worse than leaving Will begging for help on the living room floor.
Because Home Farm still has the Christmas decorations up!
Always take time to light the Christmas candles before telling your husband you drugged your stepmum (Credit: ITV)
Home Farm is sparkling!
We get that the Tate/Fletcher/Thomas family have had a lot on since Christmas, what with Will’s death and organising a funeral and whatnot.
But come on. It’s not like they couldn’t have just asked Lydia to give them a hand to take them down and shove them up in the loft.
On the contrary, they seem to have totally embraced the January decorations. We couldn’t help but notice that when Dawn was sitting on the sofa, bemoaning her foolish actions regarding the whole ketamine thing, she’d taken the time to light the pretty Christmas candles.
Aww the cafe makes a pretty festive backdrop to Laurel’s confession (Credit: ITV)
Bad luck in store for Kim in Emmerdale?
Of course everyone knows that Christmas decorations are supposed to come down by Twelfth Night, which is either December 5 or 6 (opinion is divided on that bit!) depending on whether you count 12 days from Christmas Day or 12 days after.
January 6 is Epiphany – the day the three kings finally made it to visit baby Jesus – so that marks the end of the festive season.
And what happens if you leave them up too long?
Well, some superstitious types would like to tell you that leaving the decs up after Epiphany means bad luck!
Frankly, we’re not sure the Tates need more bad luck, so they’re really taking some risks here!
But it seems they’re not alone.
Because we’ve also spotted some pretty fancy decorations festooning other spots in Emmerdale too.
Could there be any more Christmas decorations at Home Farm? (Credit: ITV)
Are Kim and co tempting fate in Emmerdale?
The Woolpack is still decked out in tinsel. And with Chas and Charity’s luck, we reckon that might be tempting fate. Mind you, Charity’s left her decs up at home too, so she’s doing the double.
The cafe is still sparkling like a Christmas tree. Nicola and Brenda have certainly been more than a little bit unlucky of late. Does this mean there’s more doom in store for the pair of them? What else can go wrong?!
Leyla’s tree is still up making us fear for her future after those death rumours.
As if Ruby needs any more bad luck! (Credit: ITV)
And the worst of the bunch is the Fox-Miligans’ house. Their decorations are beautiful garlands, and shimmering fronds draped artfully from banisters. Not to mention Ruby’s home-made wreath of course.
Doomed!
While they’re undoubtedly proud of them, we really don’t think they should have left them up.
Because with Ruby struggling to cope with her evil dad arriving back in her life and stirring up memories of her childhood abuse, not to mention her guilt over cheating with Cain, and her fractious relationship with daughter Steph, can things really get any worse for the family?!
If it was us, we’d have taken those decs down well in advance just to be sure!
