Having previously been suspended from work, it seems a massive U-turn has taken place as Tom is back in his old job – and fans can’t believe it.
Just why did Tom lose his job and how has he got it back?

Tom suspended from the vets
Back in September, following Belle’s allegations of abuse, Vanessa and Rhona chose to sack Tom from the vets surgery.
The allegations are true of course, but Tom continues to insist he is innocent. Though the number of people who believe in him is getting smaller by the day.
Tom at first threatened to take the vets to court for unfair dismissal. More recently, he has taken to threatening Paddy.
Demanding his job back, Tom said he would no longer be victimised (yes, he really had the cheek to say this). He threatened to expose the vets wrongdoings, such as cutting corners and letting the Dingles off with their bills.

What happened in Emmerdale?
In Monday’s episode of Emmerdale (November 18), Cain Dingle asked Mack to call Paddy at the vets and get him to come and look at Moira‘s prize bull.
It was Tom who turned up – proof that Tom’s blackmail had worked its magic on Paddy. Cain was incensed – who can blame him after what Tom put Belle through?
Cain promptly told Tom: “You’re not going anywhere near my cattle.” But a smug Tom pointed out that their insurance wouldn’t be valid if they turned down medical care.
Not wanting any harm to come to Moira’s bull, Cain reluctantly agreed to let Tom do his job. But fans and us alike were all baffled that Tom had a job at all.

Fans baffled at Tom U-turn
Taking to X, viewers couldn’t believe that Tom had managed to get his job at the vets surgery back.
“Can’t believe Tom is back working at the vets,” one viewer said, while another fan wrote: “Tom’s got the Emmerdale bumpkins dancing to his tune.”
Another viewer wrote: “Has Paddy seriously given in and given Tom his job back? Wonder what Vanessa has to say about that?”
A fourth viewer asked: “Paddy took Tom back, I mean, what leverage has he got?”
On Cain’s reaction to seeing Tom, another fan quipped: “Tom as welcome as an outbreak of foot and mouth.”

Nicola is convinced that the Dingles are right about Tom, and the rest of the village have turned against him, meaning Tom’s only allies are girlfriend Amelia and uncle Jimmy.
But even those loyal supporters are about to wonder if Tom’s really as nice as he’s pretending to be!
We sat down for a chat with Emmerdale star James, who plays evil Tom, to find out what happens as his alter ego’s nice-guy persona begins to crumble.
Tom ropes Amelia into trying to persuade Nicola she’s wrong (Credit: ITV)
Persuading Nicola
With Nicola not budging, Tom’s determined to make her see that he’s an ‘innocent victim’ despite him being guilty of everything Belle’s accused him of!
So how is he going to talk Nicola into believing him? Well, he ropes Amelia in to help him!
“I think Tom is definitely pressured when he is trying to convince Nicola that he is genuine about everything that he is saying,” James tells us.
” I think in a weird way Tom does thrive under pressure and he enjoys it – as he gets an energy from it and feels quite invigorated and proud of himself when he does succeed in talking himself out of these scenarios.”
Nicola isn’t convinced! (Credit: ITV)
Tom plans to move away in Emmerdale
But despite Tom loving the drama, things don’t go well and Nicola is far too savvy to be convinced by his attempt to win her over with Amelia’s help.
And we know Tom doesn’t like it when things don’t go his way! So how does he react?
“I think Tom is surprised at first that he hasn’t managed to win her over because he has succeeded every other time and with every other person he has tried to convince before,” reveals James. “But I think he’s very quick to then move onto the next thing. Thinking how do I move on to a scenario where I am going to win?”
Tom’s next move is to suggest to Amelia they they move away together. What’s the plan there?
“It’s partly because he is hated in the village!” admits James. “But also it’s like when he went away to Wales with Belle, it was a way for him to fully control her and to have her to himself. Essentially the less people around that Amelia knows, the more she is going to have to rely on him and I think he quite enjoys that.”
Tom steals one of Belle’s tops (Credit: ITV)
Tom messes with Belle’s head in Emmerdale
With the walls closing in, Tom steps up his scheme to mess with Belle’s head. He steals one of her tops and gives it to Amelia. Creepy!
“It’s all about getting her in the worst state possible so he can selfishly benefit,” explains James. “He knows he’s grinding her down when he knows she’s seen Amelia in her clothes.”
And that’s when things fall apart! Belle tells Amelia that the jumper is hers, and Amelia asks questions.
“Tom is really cross,” says James. “He berates Amelia immediately. His mask has slipped! He drags Amelia out into the street.”
Tom’s mask is slipping (Credit: ITV)
The mask is slipping!
But Jimmy’s there and he sees what Tom’s up to! And with perfect timing, it’s when the police arrive, too, to question Tom.
He’s taken in for questioning by DS Foy. How does that go?
“He tries to keep his cards close to his chest because at the end of the day unless it’s actual evidence they have, Tom is going to deny it – as it’s in his interest to do that. In the interview room he attempts to manipulate the situation and tries to show to DS Foy he is actually the victim. Tom is doing that as much as possible to try and look innocent.”
And meanwhile, Jimmy is reeling from seeing Tom dragging Amelia out of the house. So will he realise Tom’s been lying?
“It’s only a matter of time,” says James. “I think Jimmy will have to start reading the writing on the wall at some point. Of course his uncle Jimmy doesn’t want to believe that Tom is a bad man but eventually Tom fears Jimmy will realise the truth.”
But despite all this, Tom still thinks he can get away with it even though the police are onto him!
“He has a sort of God complex,” says James. “Tom is cunning, conniving and clever – and I would kind of compare him to Littlefinger from Game of Thrones. He’s good at manipulation. He’s good at turning people on each other for his own benefit. He enjoys playing people and playing scenarios. He has no empathy or morality.”
Tom is still playing the victim (Credit: ITV)
Tom plays the victim in Emmerdale
“There are things that have happened like the axe going in Tom’s back and of course he has eye witnesses of people who saw Belle pushing him over,” James reveals. “He thinks he’s got a lot of ammunition against her. He wants to win and believes he still can.”
“I feel very proud of the people I’ve worked with,” says James. “The scenes with the burning of the guy – and then squaring up to the Dingles was a lot of fun. It’s been a lot of fun working with Daisy (Campbell, who plays Amelia). It has been an amazing storyline, it has been intense – a real rollercoaster of emotions but it’s been amazing. I’m really proud of what we have done. Eden Taylor-Draper (AKA Belle) has been totally amazing. There is more to come!

In Emmerdale spoilers for next week time seems to be running out for Tom as he is once again taken in for questioning. Could this be the beginning of the end?
Over the last few weeks Tom has been trying his best to act innocent, but even Amelia began to question him after his outburst on bonfire night. However he was able to sweet talk her around once again. But when he aggressively removes her from the house next week, could that be all she needs to finally see his true colours?

Emmerdale spoilers: Tom and Amelia plan to move away
When Jimmy once again takes Tom’s side, Nicola makes it clear her mind will not be changed. But Tom takes this as a challenge.
To get back in Amelia’s good books, he pretends to pray, leading to them teaming up to change Nicola’s mind.
But their attempt fails, as Nicola seems to get even more annoyed whenever they try to get her on Team Tom. That’s when Tom decides to see how Amelia would feel about moving away together, but Sam overhears and heads straight to the police station.
At the station he is given more bad news, as it seems the police aren’t any closer to charging Tom. The next day Belle is also angry at the lack of progress, and decides to have a day spent relaxing.
Tom’s behaviour continues to be creepy (Credit: ITV)
Other villagers witness Tom’s outburst
That doesn’t last too long as while she’s upstairs in a bath, Tom lets himself in and steals a top from her suitcase. Belle quickly realises the top is missing, and after another run-in with her ex, she is left visibly upset.
Belle later notices Amelia is wearing her top, but after Amelia and Leyla are shocked at the accusation, she runs away in a panic.
Tom’s true colours begin to show once again to Amelia, as he lashes out at her for Belle’s accusation. Things get even worse when he physically forces her out of the house.
Thankfully, his outburst is witnessed by both Jimmy and DS Foy, who is there to bring him back to the station for more questions.
While Tom tries to use his usual tactics of talking himself out of situations, it doesn’t seem this will be that easy.
After seeing his violent side, will Jimmy finally turn his back on his nephew and restore peace with his family? And what exactly are the police questioning Tom about?

Elsewhere, Caleb opened up to Chas over his guilt about Steph, and Tom continued to rub the Dingles up the wrong way.
Here’s what happened in Emmerdale on Monday, November 18.
Ruby slapped her daughter (Credit: ITV)
Ruby and Steph came face-to-face
Caleb invited Steph over to the house for breakfast. Things got more frosty once Ruby arrived home, earlier than expected. Caleb left the two women to talk – but that perhaps wasn’t the wisest decision.
Ruby and Steph both went on the attack, with Steph revealing that she had been in touch with her grandma a lot and the reason she left her all the money instead of Ruby was because of Ruby’s “histrionics.”
As they got onto the real issue – Steph being sent away to boarding school when she was a teen, Ruby insisted it had been the right decision. Steph felt differently, however, and responded: “You couldn’t be bothered, mum. Just own it.†Ruby shot back: “You stole a car! You were 14 and out of control. You try owning that!â€
Steph wouldn’t take this lying down though and claimed she was just acting out as she was “desperate for someone to give a toss.†She really dug deep in an attempt to hurt Ruby, as she told her: “Other kids had mums. I had this cold-hearted fake that couldn’t stand to have me near her. Oh, Mummy’s busy. Mummy’s tried. Mummy’s got a headache.â€
After being called a “selfish [bleep]”, Ruby snapped and slapped her daughter. Doesn’t seem the best way to make amends…
How long will Steph stick around? (Credit: ITV)
Steph met Ross
In Emmerdale tonight, after leaving her mum, Steph was shown on the phone, where she told the mystery caller that her mum had totally lost it. She then sighed and said: “Yes, I know what’s at stake.†Is she just talking about the inheritance, or is she up to something else?
We then saw Steph having a drink with Ross Barton in The Hide. After opening up to him, he cheekily told her he is an “expert on women… with estrangement issues.”
Despite not even knowing each other’s names, Steph took Ross back to the B&B.

Caleb unburdened on Chas in Emmerdale tonight
After leaving Ruby and Steph to slang it out, Caleb visited half-sister Chas, who was shocked to discover she had a niece that Caleb had never mentioned.
Caleb sadly told Chas: “She was my little mate, you know? She was like my shadow. And I let her down. And this is why I never talk about her because it hurts so much. It’s easier to just pretend she didn’t exist.â€
After Caleb told Chas about Steph stealing a car and trying to run away, Chas quipped: “Sounds pretty standard Dingle.” But Caleb was in no mood for jokes and he made the big revelation that Steph playing up was all because of him. “She caught me with this woman that I’d been seeing,” he said. Steph started playing up after Caleb had her lie to her mum, resulting in Ruby deciding to send her away to boarding school.
Later, Caleb reassured Ruby that they’d get their daughter back, but is Steph planning on sticking around?

Tom pushed Cain’s buttons
Mack called Paddy at the vets for someone to come and look at Moira’s prized bull. Much to Cain’s annoyance it was Tom who turned up.
Cain said “You’re not going anywhere near my cattle,” which sounds like a euphemism but isn’t. Cain then called Tom a smug git, which is pretty mild considering what Tom has put Cain’s sister Belle through.
However, Tom pointed out that the farm’s insurance wouldn’t pay out if they declined medical care, so Cain had to relent and let Tom see to the bull.
Later, Tom overheard Sam telling Cain that Samson was having a bit of trouble in prison. Tom being the cruel person that he is couldn’t resist another dig, and asked Cain if prison was a rite of passage for Dingle men. “Samson, Noah, even Kyle. Must be a bizarre kind of family that considers that normal,” he said, before adding: “Belle didn’t have a chance.”
Cain couldn’t resist pushing Tom to the ground, with Tom responding he’d add a new set of overalls to the vet bill – despite the fact that no damage had been done to the set he was wearing.
Sam warned Cain to be careful with Tom as they didn’t want to ruin the trial. They were interrupted by Moira, who arrived home early from her break. She accused Cain of struggling to cope without her – but with Moira’s operation booked in for this week, can he pull it back together and be there for her?
Meanwhile, following the big reveal that Caleb had conned Jai, he decided to offer him a job as a manager. Jai told him to stuff the “poxy job.” However, after a few choice words from Laurel, Jai started to reconsider.

In tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, Tom sets his sights on a different target – picking on Paddy in an attempt to get his job back. While it’s nice to see Tom go after someone who isn’t a young child or his grieving, mentally unwell ex-wife for once, it’s another nasty move from the village’s resident manipulator.
This comes as Rhona, Vanessa and Paddy suspended him from work over Belle’s allegations of abuse. All completely true, of course, but Tom continues to insist upon his innocence to anyone who will listen.
And he’s not taking news of his suspension lying down either, first threatening to sue for unfair dismissal, and now attempting to blackmail Paddy into relenting. Demanding his job back, Tom threatens to air all the vets’ dirty laundry in public.
It’s the latest development in a storyline which shows little sign of slowing down. And, with Tom repeatedly managing to evade the law (and Dingle retribution) his comeuppance has been a long time coming.
When – and how – will all this end?
Tom demands his job back (Credit: ITV)
When is Tom leaving Emmerdale?
Soap bosses revealed earlier this month that the end of the storyline will air in December. Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw said: “When we first embarked on this journey we knew we wanted to show domestic abuse, coercive control and manipulation in all its guises.
“We knew from the outset that Belle would need some sort of closure on Tom and we know our Emmerdale audience always look forward to our villains getting their comeuppance. We don’t want to spoil the outcome of this story and reveal what will happen to Tom, but needless to say, Belle’s going to be in a much better place by this Christmas.”

How will Tom King leave?
The exact circumstances behind Tom’s exit remain unknown, although fans have long speculated that he might exit the village in a coffin. While there are several ways he could get his comeuppance, many are hoping that he faces real justice – inside a prison cell.
What is known is that the story will involve Loose Woman and ex-Corrie star Denise Welch, who is joining the soap to bring Tom’s story to a close. Denise will play a woman on the jury when Belle takes Tom on in court.
TV stars Charles Dale and Jack Ellis will also join the all-star cast for the episode – an hour-long special which highlights the real-life voices of domestic violence survivors.

Fans of Emmerdale were fuming yesterday (Thursday November 14) as ITV’s schedule change meant the show had been cancelled for football.
Between 7pm and 10pm last night ITV aired coverage of the UEFA Nations League football match between Greece and England. Instead of its usual hour-long episode of the soap.
While it’s not out of the ordinary for the channel to swap soaps for football, Emmerdale fans are getting progressively annoyed as they have to keep waiting longer for the next instalment.

Emmerdale fans share their anger at schedule change
One angry fan tried to provide a solution: “Sick of this happening. Have a channel especially for football. We all are not interested in football.”
Another simply wrote they were “fuming” at the decision.
“I am fed up with this happening due to football again”, a third soap fan commented.
Another fan was so outraged they penned: “Think I might stop watching ITV.”
“All these schedule changes for football are pathetic,” added one more.
However, it looks like things aren’t set to change anytime soon as ITV have been changing schedules to show England matches for years. And in 2023 they secured exclusive rights to broadcast certain England men’s football matches until 2028. Although it’s very likely that contract will be extended again.
This means Emmerdale viewers are unfortunately going to continue missing out on some village action. It’s always upsetting for ITV to skip a night, as fans are so heavily invested in the storylines that play out, desperately wanting to know what happens next.
Coming up in Emmerdale
Moira and Cain prepare for her operation (Credit: ITV)
On Wednesday night’s (November 13) trip to the Dales viewers saw Eric’s struggle without his usual Parkinson’s medication reach a whole new level, while Jai began to get suspicious about Caleb’s intentions.
Thankfully tonight’s episode of the soap will air as normal and is already available to stream on ITVX.
Tonight’s episode will see Tom turn his attention to Paddy. The villain makes it clear he will do what he has to to get his job at the vets back.
Elsewhere, Emmerdale is gearing up to air another special episode – this time for Moira and Cain. No stranger to new techniques, this special will focus on Cain throughout the day of Moira’s operation. But in a twist, it will be in reverse chronological order, beginning with Caleb finding Cain drunk with blood on his hands. But what happened?

In Emmerdale spoilers tonight, vengeful Tom puts Paddy in a sticky situation when he threatens to air the vets’ dirty laundry in public. Tom is desperate to get his job back after being given his marching orders by Rhona and Vanessa.
But will he be successful in leveraging Paddy to get his way?
Tom losing his job came as Belle let the villagers know all about Tom’s campaign of abuse against her – both physical and mental. Recalling their awkward dinner party in which Belle seemed to be upset and not acting herself, Rhona believed her version of events in full.

What’s happened on Emmerdale so far: Tom loses his job amid abuse allegations
Rhona and Vanessa then told Tom that they would be firing him from his position at the surgery once the police investigation is through. Never one to take things lying down, Tom has threatened to sue for unfair dismissal. However, nothing – not even a dodgy lawyer faking assault and smashing up his car – has managed to change her mind.
And, with Paddy also believing Belle and the Dingles’ version of events, Tom decides to take a different tack in trying to get his job back. Approaching Paddy, he threatens to spill all the surgery’s dirty secrets if Paddy doesn’t comply.

While Angel wrestles with the guilt of what happened, we were thinking that she’s definitely not the first Emmerdale teenager to go bad. Here’s a round-up of the other youngsters who went right off the rails…
Nice boy Robert Sugden turned moody and aggressive by his teens (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)
Robert Sugden
Robert Sugden had lost two mums by the time he reached his teens, and caught his dad cheating, so in some ways it’s no surprise that all that heartbreak made him cold and manipulative.
As a younger teen, Robert was involved in the car accident that left a teacher dead – more on that later. He didn’t learn his lesson, though, as just a couple of years later he crashed his car and scarpered, leaving girlfriend Elaine unconscious. Then he lied about it! He even had a romance with much older Nicola Blackstock (now King). URGH.
Andy’s arson attack caused all sorts of trouble (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)
Andy Sugden
Andy and Robert were once best friends – that’s why the Sugden family took Andy in as a troubled youngster. But Robert’s jealousy made things tricky as Andy tried his best to prove he was a proper member of the family.
Unfortunately for Andy and his adopted mum Sarah, that meant him torching the barn in a misguided attempt to solve the family’s financial troubles. Unbeknownst to Andy, Sarah was inside the barn. She died and though Jack got the blame at first, it was Andy who eventually ‘fessed up. Robert never really forgave him.
Lachlan was awkward and odd, but when he first came to the village he was sweetly supportive to Belle Dingle and encouraged her to get help for her mental health issues.
But it was when he befriended Jacob Gallagher that things took a turn. Lachlan became overly interested in Jacob’s mum, Alicia, and even bought her an expensive handbag as a present, which Alicia returned. Lachlan sexually assaulted Alicia, and eventually his mum Chrissie reported him to the police.
That was only the start for Lachlan. He went on to shoot his grandfather Lawrence, kill his mum and Lawrence in a car crash he caused, murder fan fave Gerry and a conman who was posing as Gerry’s uncle, and kidnap his aunt Rebecca and hold her hostage!
Thankfully, Lachlan’s now behind bars!

Emmerdale kids gone back: The teens in 2002
In 2002, the village teens – Robert and Andy Sugden, Ollie and Marc Reynolds, Donna Windsor, Katie Addyman and Eve Birch – planned a night out in Hotten.
When they missed the last bus home, Andy tried to impress his mates by stealing a car. Marc got behind the wheel and they set off for home, only to hit someone walking in the road.
Horrified, the joyriders realised they had hit and killed their headteacher, Miss Strickland!
They torched the car and covered up what they’d done, as the village mourned the loss. But Marc’s conscience got the better of him and despite the others trying to stop him, he went to the police.
He tried to take the full blame but his friends admitted they were also involved.
Marc was sent to Young Offenders, just like Angelica, while the other teens got community service.
Thomas King had an outburst at Carl’s funeral and tormented Chas (Credit: ITV/Shutterstock)
Tom King
Back in 2013, Tom King was known as Thomas and he had a vendetta against his dad Carl’s ex, Chas Dingle.
Chas had recently been found not guilty of murdering Carl. She didn’t kill him – that had been Dales serial killer, Cameron Murray – though she had believed she’d committed the crime for a while.
But even after Chas was let off, Thomas still thought she was guilty. He began a campaign of harassment against Chas, sending her creepy photos with the eyes scratched out, throwing bottles at her, trashing the pub living room and generally making her life a misery. And it looks like he hasn’t changed a bit!
No, we’re not sure why she didn’t bring this up when Belle got together with him, either!

Bad Girls star Jack Ellis, who played prison officer Jim Fenner, also joins the cast for the Emmerdale special episode.
He also played bookie Harry Mason on Coronation Street back in the noughties.
