Emmerdale review of the week: We don’t hate Dawn and Joe, Rhona in the spotlight and the Christmas decorations are STILL up

Our Emmerdale review this week is mostly just loads of questions, because there has been a LOT going on, and most of it has left us scratching our heads.

We’ve been left reeling at some of this week’s action and it’s left us looking for answers. Here’s what we thought in our Emmerdale review of the week.

    Dawn angry at Kim
Dawn interrupted Kim’s eulogy to accuse her of murder. (Credit: ITV)

    The madness at Home Farm

Oh, where to start with this? At the beginning of the week Dawn was absolutely convinced that Will had been murdered by Kim. So convinced, in fact, that she stood up at Will’s funeral and accused Kim in front of the handful of mourners who’d bothered to show up. And then she went to the police, who immediately responded by arresting Kim at Will’s grave.

Meanwhile Dawn was even more determined to prove that Kim had murdered Will, so she drugged her with ketamine and screamed at her to admit what she’d done, while Kim hallucinated, then passed out and had a seizure.

And if that wasn’t enough, having realised she was wrong and been let off the hook for drugging her stepmum, Dawn then snogged Joe Tate who she hated about ten minutes earlier. Is it any wonder our heads are spinning?

But here’s the slightly surprising thing about all this craziness – we don’t hate it. Dawn kissing Joe immediately made her at least 500 times more interesting. And we’re quite keen to find out what’s up with Joe, who’s clearly very unwell.

But we said this Emmerdale review was full of questions and we meant it. Like what’s happened to Will’s phone with all those incriminating messages from financial-advisor Peter on it? Come to think of it, where is financial-advisor Peter? Has anyone told Rose that Will is dead?

Is Dawn aware that the ‘bubble’ around Home Farm has well and truly burst and Clemmie and Lucas can probably go back to school now? And most importantly, will anyone ever take down the Christmas decorations?

Could Steph be pregnant with Ross' baby?
Time to grow up, Steph? (Credit: ITV)

    Steph is 32!

We know Steph is 32 because she just had her birthday. It lasted two days. Everyone made a big old fuss about it.

But somehow Steph being 32 doesn’t seem to stop her behaving like a sulky, ungrateful teenager. She is so rude to her mother Ruby it makes us cringe, while she stamps her feet if anything doesn’t go her way.

We think it’s time she was sent to her room to think about her behaviour and if things carry on like this, it’ll be no screen time for a week.

Laurel in Emmerdale looking cross (Credit: ITV)
Laurel has had a busy Christmas – apparently (Credit: ITV)

    Where’s the Laurel action?

Laurel’s been up to all sorts recently. Her divorce came through. She thought about having a drink. She did have a drink. Then she called Marlon to help. She made a pass at Marlon… It’s all go in Laurel world.

    Or so we’re told.

Because we’ve not seen any of this. It’s all happened off-screen. I mean, we’re not massively invested in Laurel’s life – not since the whole Charles thing which we’re still recovering from – but it would be nice to see it rather than just hear it second hand. And it’s got to be more exciting than Arthur’s maths homework.

    Marlon making his video
Marlon’s appeal video went viral with awful results (Credit: ITV)

Breaking and entering in our Emmerdale review

April’s still missing and Marlon’s tearful homemade appeal video went viral, attracting horrible comments and even worse, some amateur detectives.

A pair of oddballs distracted Rhona at the vets, broke into the family home and went through April’s stuff, livestreaming their efforts as they went.

It was really quite shocking, but just like the Home Farm madness, it left us with a few questions. Like why Rhona didn’t call the police, and what happened to the cat they left behind.

And why – when we have watched every episode of Emmerdale for decades – did we not know there was a door directly from the vets into the cottage next door? And if we didn’t know, how did the true-crime weirdos?

Thankfully the vloggers legged it, but we’re not convinced they’ve really gone. Because if it’s true crime they’re after, Emmerdale can definitely keep them busy!

If they get a whiff of the skulduggery going on at Home Farm, or Angelica killing Heath, or Belle’s traumatic year, or Charity shooting Chloe’s gangster dad, or Kyle shooting Al, or Kerry and Amy burning down the factory and killing Tracy’s dad, or anything to do with the Fox-Miligans, they’ll be hanging around for the next five years.

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Will ‘returned’ from the dead, Dawn got her answers – and then kissed Joe

Emmerdale tonight saw the brief return of Will Taylor from the dead as Kim hallunicated her late husband. Dawn was behind it and finally got the answers she was looking for – and then she kissed Joe Tate!

Elsewhere, Jacob really needs to sort out his behaviour with women – and Charity told him as much.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Thursday January 9.

    Will ‘returned’

Dawn had left a pot of coffee for Kim when she got up – and we all know what that meant. But Kim did not and drunk it anyway.

It was soon clear Kim was feeling woozy. Then she found the video of Will playing in the living room, before ‘Will’ confronted her. Kim was overwhelmed that her husband was back, but he wasn’t being nice, he was telling her it was all her fault and asking her how she killed him.

Viewers then saw it was Dawn, not Will, grilling Kim and it became clear she was hallucinating her dead husband thanks to Dawn’s ketamine. Kim then saw blood on her hands and freaked out. Will was still there in her head as she started to go mad, and we could see Dawn persisting in trying to get the truth.

Kim was convinced it was Will as she confessed she didn’t want Will dead. She admitted she could have helped Will sooner. It was clear she was distraught over the whole thing. Kim begged for forgiveness, but Dawn said she didn’t believe her and it can’t have just been an accident. Sobbing Kim said she did it because Will broke her heart.

    Kim rushed to hospital

Kim was looking sicker and sicker as she relieved the past few months with Will and what they did to each other. She insisted she loved him so much before passing out.

Dawn STILL didn’t believe her, but just then Joe walked in and wanted to know exactly what had gone on. Dawn admitted she drugged her so she would let her guard down and talk about Will.

Kim then started to have a seizure thanks to her overdosing and an ambulance was called. Joe covered Dawn’s tracks and unresponsive Kim was rushed to hospital.

Joe genuinely has us believing he’s Team Kim – what is going on here?!

Kim confronted Dawn in Emmerdale tonight

Fortunately Kim regained consciousness and was stablised. The police arrived to question her over the ketamine and she lied she took it herself. Kim and Dawn finally made peace.

Dawn later confessed to Billy and admitted she’d got the ketamine from her old dealer. Billy then questioned whether Dawn had taken any herself and didn’t believe her when she insisted she hadn’t. All right Billy, let’s climb down off that high horse, shall we.

    Dawn and Joe kissed

Later at Home Farm, Joe and Dawn shared a drink together. Joe was being nice to her and consoling her and she leaned in and kissed him. She pulled back and Joe assured her it was okay, but suggested she didn’t tell Billy the truth about this one.

Jacob hurt Sarah again in Emmerdale tonight

Jacob and Sarah had spent the night together, but Leyla was worried about Sarah and Jacob being together because of Sarah’s health issues.

At home Charity was waiting to give Sarah the third degree about where she had been. Sarah admitted she’d been with Jacob and despite Charity’s concerns she gave them her blessing to be together.

When Sarah and Jacob ran into each other in the cafe, Jacob was awkward with her and Sarah noticed something was wrong. But once again Jacob didn’t want to talk about it and then admitted he wasn’t ready for a relationship after Leanna because he couldn’t say goodbye to someone else he really cares about. Sarah was hurt. Again.

Sarah sobbed on Charity’s shoulder over the whole situation as she once again was faced with the reality that she may die before she’s 40. Charity immediately stormed round to give Jacob a piece of her mind.

Devastation for Marlon in Emmerdale tonight

Marlon’s video had got 100s of comments and people were suggesting they’d seen her as far as Brighton and Scotland. But Mary noticed something on the threads that sparked concern. Vile trolls were suggesting Marlon was creepy and he had something to do with April going missing. Mary was trying to delete them, but there were too many.

Marlon saw them and was devastated that people could think he could do something like that.

    Laurel and Charles

Charles and Laurel pitched in to help with the search for April. Charles called round all the shelters, which we sort of think he should already have been doing to be honest!

Laurel then confided in Charles about her drinking and making a pass at Marlon. Are these two growing closer again? Is that a spark we still see there?

    Ruby and Steph made up

Anthony approached Caleb and Ruby in the cafe and told Ruby off for upsetting Steph. Ruby then apologised to Steph and was forgiven. Anthony rubbed Ruby’s face in his closeness to Steph and this whole, vile, cycle continues.

Dawn pinning Will’s death on Kim but is actually covering own tracks, fan theory predicts

Dawn is determined to make Kim suffer the consequences for ‘murdering’ Will – but a new Emmerdale fan theory has suggested that she might be covering her own tracks instead. Did Dawn kill her dad?

This week’s episodes saw Dawn stumble across a video from her dad in which he accused Kim of his murder (before it had actually happened!). Dawn seemed to take Will at his word, and has been determined to expose Kim ever since.

Dawn spirals out of control as Kim tries to clear her name

In last night’s episode (Wednesday, January 8), Dawn was left furious after the police released Kim without charge. Getting drunk, she then scored herself a bottle of ketamine. But is it for personal use, or does she have something more sinister planned?

Fans of the soap have a theory… and they think Dawn may not be so innocent herself.

Dawn killed Will, Emmerdale fans predict

Writing on social media as the episode aired, fans shared their theories as to why Dawn has been acting so erratically. And some wondered whether she might have been the one who killed Will.

“Question now is…Did Dawn kill Will, if she did then why?” asked one fan.

“So Dawn killed Will,” another said, matter-of-factly.

“So has Dawn killed her dad? Dawn is gonna try and kill Kim? Dawn is going back on the drugs? Or plant the drug on Kim?” asked a third viewer.

“I can’t tell if its being implied that Dawn had some accidentally part of wills death, hence bein on Kim. Or if shes planning to take Kim down, then why ask the guy she “killed” forgiveness? Or is she gonna take it?” another wrote.

Has Dawn killed Will? And what does she plan on doing with the drugs?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Kim was released and Dawn got hold of ketamine

Emmerdale tonight saw Kim released without charge over Will’s death. But Dawn wasn’t giving up and after boring us all with more outbursts she got herself some ketamine – but is it for her or for Kim?

Elsewhere, Jacob was mean to Sarah. Again. And Ruby blew it with Steph. Again.

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight, Wednesday January 8.

Kim still under suspicion in Emmerdale tonight

    Kim released without charge

Kim was being questioned by police insisting she loved Will and wouldn’t have killed him. Joe sent a solicitor and Kim was not impressed – she thought it made her look guilty.

The solicitor said it was all pointless and they had no evidence. True. So it wasn’t long before Kim was home.

    Dawn wasn’t giving up

Back at Home Farm, Dawn was ranting and raging at Joe. Billy agreed Dawn is imagining things and Joe insisted he talk to his wife and make her see sense. But Dawn was not seeing any sense at all, shouting at everyone, picking on a returning Kim and not even remotely prepared to back down.

Kim demanded to see the video and tried once again to defend herself. She admitted what had happened with Ross, but Dawn still wasn’t interested and was getting more and more irritating as the episode went on. So Kim decided the only thing she could do was tell Dawn the truth about the day Will died.

But Joe talked her out of it insisting Dawn wouldn’t take it well and it would only strengthen her resolve to have Kim punished.

    Dawn’s next plan

Dawn decided to deal with it all by getting drunk. Great idea for a recovering drug addict.

Gabby tried to talk some sense into her and it looked like she might have got through as Dawn went home and apologised. Kim forgave her and they hugged. But is Dawn really sorry? We’re not so sure.

She then went to Will’s grave and asked for forgiveness as she opened her hand and revealed a bottle of ketamine. But is she planning to take the drugs to ease her own pain? Or use them on Kim – or even Joe – to get the confession she so desperately wants?

Jacob was awful to Sarah again in Emmerdale tonight

In the Woolpack Sarah spotted the girl she’d seen Jacob with and acting all innocent went over to ask some questions. But then Jacob arrived and things were hostile as they asked her to join them.

Jacob then embarrassed Sarah by talking about her faconi anemia and his mates gave her a hard time about drinking. He did feel bad, but maybe he should just stop being so awful to her in the first place! Jacob apologised and admitted he did like Sarah and wanted to be more than friends before they kissed.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

    Ruby messed up

Cain does not trust Anthony. Caleb on the other hand has warmed to his father-in-law and wants to stick by him. We always knew Cain was the smart brother.

Back at home things were better between Ruby and Steph, until Ruby snapped at her over a photo. Steph wanted to get the picture of Ruby pregnant with her framed, but Ruby shouted she didn’t want to look at it. Then poured herself another drink.

    Marlon made an appeal

Laurel approached Rhona in the village and apologised. Rhona was very understanding and even apologised on behalf of her mum.

Meanwhile, Marlon made a video appeal for April. He was tearful and emotional as he begged April to come home. Afterwards he broke down in tears.

Sorry, no, this story isn’t over yet.

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Dawn triumphant as Kim was arrested for Will’s murder

Dawn was on a mission in Emmerdale tonight and she thought she’d won when she had Kim arrested at Will’s funeral. But did Queen Kim really have something to do with Will’s death?

Elsewhere, Anthony dropped a bombshell on Caleb and Jacob is still struggling with stress.

Here’s what happened in Emmerdale tonight, Tuesday January 7.

There was drama at Will’s funeral in Emmerdale tonight

    Dawn wanted answers

Dawn confronted Ross over Will’s video. But Ross advised her she was barking up the wrong tree and Kim did not kill Will.

Meanwhile, Kim was preparing herself for Will’s funeral, planning to ride to the church on Ice. Kim promised Dawn she would step up and be there for her, but Dawn only gave her a glare in response. Dawn later told Billy Kim killed Will and showed him the video. But Billy wasn’t sure it meant anything – and suggested the video could have been made ages ago and could be a set-up.

    Dawn attacked Kim in church

The family went to the funeral, with Kim the grieving widow, Dawn steely and unforgiving, and (randomly) Gabby a tearful wreck. Kim delivered a heartfelt eulogy, but Dawn couldn’t keep quiet. She stood up and accused Kim of being a “murdering bitch”.

An argument broke out as Kim defended herself and Dawn revealed the video to the congregation. Kim begged Dawn to believe her, but Dawn shoved her violently into the coffin. She ran out.

Kim continued her eulogy and if she was giving a performance, it convinced us, because we really don’t think she had anything to do with Will’s death. But we could be wrong…

Kim insisted she had nothing to hide, flanked by Joe and taken in by the police (Credit: ITV)

    Kim arrested

Dawn returned only for the burial in the graveyard, but was still not interested in forgiving Kim. In fact, she had called the cops, who turned up at the graveside to take Kim in for questioning over Will’s murder.

Kim went willingly, insisting she has nothing to hide. We don’t think she does and we suspect that triumphant look on Dawn’s face will be wiped off it fairly soon. And we’re actually quite glad about that.

Anthony dropped a bombshell in Emmerdale tonight

Ruby treated Steph to a spa day so they could spend some time together, but Steph was not keen. Ruby pushed her into agreeing and she gave in.

Meanwhile, Anthony asked Caleb if they could have a chat alone. The oncology team had told him the cancer is spreading faster than expected. Anthony does not have long left.

As we collectively breathed a sigh of relief, oblivious Caleb comforted his father-in-law, who insisted Ruby and Steph mustn’t know about the scan results. He wants Ruby’s forgiveness to come from her heart – he’ll have a VERY long wait then.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight…

    Marlon is appealing

Marlon was furious over Mary confronting Laurel, but Mary was not sorry. However, the focus was April who is still missing. The family then convinced Marlon to do a social media appeal to ask her to come home. With renewed hope, Marlon agreed.

    Jacob is still stressed

We’re beginning to wonder if Jacob is cut out to be a doctor to be honest. He’s only done one day on placement and is already struggling with stress. Tonight, he was was shadowing Manpreet at the surgery and helped Bob during an appointment. But Manpreet was worried about Jacob’s stress levels. She advised him to administer self-care, but will he do as she says?

  • As Dawn finds Will USB video, here’s how it leads to Kim’s arrest

As Dawn finds Will USB video, here’s how it leads to Kim’s arrest

Tonight’s episode of Emmerdale saw Will Taylor return from beyond the grave to give daughter Dawn some shocking news about the circumstances surrounding his death – which comes as the police arrest Kim Tate later this week.

This follows Will’s shocking Christmas death as he succumbed to a fatal heart attack during a heated confrontation with Kim.

Dying on the floor of Home Farm, Will’s death left his wife and family shocked. However, what came in tonight’s episode had Dawn questioning everything.

Is her dad telling the truth?

Finding a USB stick among his belongings, Dawn opened the device to find it contained a video from her dad.

“Dawn Love. I hope this means that you’re watching and not someone else,” Will said, via recording.

“But if you are… then that means I’m dead,” he finished dramatically.

Fake news, but Will’s final message sets into motion a chain of events which will see Kim arrested at his funeral later this week…

Emmerdale spoilers: Kim arrested at Will’s funeral

Emmerdale spoilers reveal that Dawn struggles to come to terms with her dad’s death – and Kim’s apparent involvement. As Billy tells her that Will’s message doesn’t actually prove anything, Dawn simmers with rage during the funeral procession.

As Kim delivers her eulogy, Dawn explodes, accusing her of murder in front of the congregation. She reveals the contents of the video to an appalled Kim.

Kim insists that it’s not true, but an argument breaks out – and Dawn pushes Kim into Will’s coffin. Kim tries to get Dawn back on side but, as the coffin is lowered into the ground, the police approach, and Kim is arrested.

    Can Kim prove her innocence?

What happened in Emmerdale tonight: Police found the contraceptive pill in April’s room, and Dawn accused Joe of killing Will

Marlon started to fear the worst as he took his frustrations out on the police in Emmerdale tonight as they found some worrying evidence.

Elsewhere, Dawn shared her suspicions over Joe with Kim – but, did he kill Will?

Here’s everything that happened in Emmerdale tonight on Monday, December 30.

Police found contraceptive pills in April’s bedroom

Marlon was still feeling sick to his stomach tonight as he sat down with the police as the search for missing April continued.

He relived the argument he’d had with April the day before she went missing, also filling the police in on her finding out how Donna really died.

Police then asked if they could search April’s room, making a rather shocking discovery as they returned with contraceptive pills they’d found. Although, Marlon made things difficult by lashing out at them for not doing enough to bring his daughter home (a bit harsh!)

Marlon then started wondering if April had been secretly seeing a boy, worrying that they’d forced her to take the pills and leave her home.

Police then took April’s electronic devices, hoping that they’d find some sort of name that could help lead them to April.

The episode ended with Marlon looking all sad out of a window, as if April would just magically appear before his very eyes.

Dawn reckoned Joe killed Will (Credit: ITV)

Dawn suspected the worst from Joe in Emmerdale tonight

Dawn’s a fast learner as she’s already figured out that trouble always follows Joe Tate. So, when he suddenly reappeared and turned up at Home Farm just moments before Will’s heart attack, she deciphered that it couldn’t have been a coincidence.

Speaking to Kim, Dawn asked her if she could help her with her dad’s funeral plans. Kim though suggested that Dawn should take some time to grieve first.

Dawn then shared her concerns that Joe might’ve had something to do with Will’s death, but Kim pointed out that Joe didn’t even know Will (covering her tracks and all that.)

Not buying it, Dawn then threatened that the truth would come out at the post mortem.

    Anthony was suspicious of Cain

Anthony didn’t get a good vibe from Cain today (but, maybe it was just that his green smoothie didn’t agree with him.) He even made his discomfort known to Charity, noting that Cain was rather rude to him.

Charity and Ruby both told Anthony that he shouldn’t be worried. That was just typical Cain (Anthony has A LOT to learn there.)

But, little did he know was that Ruby was actually trying to stop him from learning the truth about her moment of passion with her husband’s brother. Talk about messy.

    Also in Emmerdale tonight

Jacob arranged a date with Sarah but ended up leaving her sitting all alone in the pub whilst he headed out for lunch with his mum. Nice.

Leyla then tried to warn Jacob off dating so that he could focus on his final year of studies before becoming a doctor. But, when love’s at play, it’s never that easy to stay away…
